Dad!James Potter x Fem!Reader ☼ 946 words
series masterlist ; main masterlist
“He’s precious! He looks just like his daddy.” Miriam gushes, leaning in closer to Henry. James cringes as his baby boy flinches away, burying his head into his father’s chest and eyeing the woman with uncertainty. Henry’s tiny hands clutch James’s shirt, seeking comfort and protection from the unfamiliar face.
James knows Miriam from school, but they have never been close. She has always been the life of the party, a role he once embraced during their school days. Now, her enthusiasm feels overwhelming, especially to his shy and sensitive son. Perhaps he has mellowed more than he realizes since then—having a child at 20 would surely do that to you.
Miriam straightens up, placing a manicured hand on his bicep. With a slight pout to her lips, she says softly, “I heard about what happened to you and his mum. It must have been devastating.”
James tenses, his gaze shifting nervously to the store entrance, where he hopes Sirius, Remus, and you will hurry with their shopping and rescue him from this unwelcome conversation. The thought of discussing his ex, who left him and their son behind because she wasn’t ready for motherhood, fills him with a mix of frustration and anger. The memory of her sudden departure still stings, and he isn’t eager to relive those painful moments, especially with someone he barely knows.
“Yeah, it’s been tough, but we’re doing just fine without her,” James replies, his tone steady but strained. He takes a deep breath, summoning the courage to gently suggest that Miriam give them some space. “Anyway, Miriam—”
“That’s so unfortunate that he doesn’t have a mum in his life,” Miriam continues, her lashes fluttering flirtatiously at him. James immediately grasps where she is going with this. It’s not the first time his role as a father has attracted unwanted advances, but her bold approach leaves him momentarily stunned. If she had asked him out directly, it might have been different—though he doubts it would have made much of a difference.
“Miriam! Still hitting on unavailable men?” Sirius’s voice rings out with a teasing edge. James turns to see Sirius and Remus emerging from the store. Remus is scanning the receipt but looks up, startled at Sirius’s voice. You must still be browsing in the store.
“Unavailable?” Miriam repeats, her eyebrows raising in surprise. James can’t help but question the same thing, the word echoing in his mind.
“Very much so,” Sirius says with a firm nod as he and Remus come to stand beside James. Remus shoots Miriam a polite hello, but his expression reflects his lingering dislike for her from their school days.
“I didn’t know you were with someone,” Miriam mumbles, and James thinks about clarifying that he didn’t know it either.
The bell above the shop door chimes, announcing someone’s departure. James’s reaction to your voice is immediate and revealing; his eyes brighten, and his posture straightens as he turns to you. It’s clear from his response that he is deeply enamored with you.
And it isn’t just James. His son mirrors his father’s excitement. The little boy’s eyes light up with the same warmth, and he reaches out eagerly toward you. Henry babbles what sounds remarkably like “mama,” his tiny arms outstretched in an unmistakable plea for you to hold him. James hopes you don’t catch what his son is trying to say.
Your sweet voice rings out, “Jamie, I know you said not to spoil him, but they had the most adorable knit sweater—” You trail off, blinking in surprise as you notice Miriam’s disapproving gaze, her brow furrowed in irritation. You come to astop next to James, missing the way his son is staring you down.
“You bought him another sweater?” Remus asks, his tone a mix of surprise and amusement. You shoot him a halfhearted glare, silently reminding him that he shouldn’t be commenting on it.
“Hi, Miriam. How have you been?” You greet her with a warm smile, though a hint of unease tugs at you. Miriam’s gaze feels unusually intense, leaving you slightly unsettled. You recall that you both got on well in school, so you’re unsure what might have shifted between you.
“Good. It’s been ages since I’ve seen you all, Jamie and I were just talking about—” Miriam trails off, her gaze fixed on James as he smoothly takes the shopping bag from you, allowing you to take Henry. Had you been fully listening, you would’ve frowned at the use of your nickname for James.
The transition is so effortless that it’s clear it’s well-practiced. You settle Henry comfortably on your hip, deftly rummaging through your purse until you find a pacifier. You gently pop it into his mouth, and Henry’s head droops onto your shoulder as he begins to suck contentedly, letting out a sigh that suggests he’s found his perfect spot.
James’s gaze is lovesick as he watches you. His heart catches in his throat as he sees you effortlessly produce a pacifier for his son. He’s well aware that your purse likely holds other baby essentials, even if you’d deny it. As he observes you, his thoughts drift, overwhelmed by the profound realization that Henry has a mum in his life— you.
You’re so focused on settling Henry that you don’t even notice Miriam’s silence, and James, so absorbed in you, is barely aware of her presence. You smile up at him while gently rocking his son, and James thinks, This is it. I have everything I’ve ever wanted.
Miriam turns to Sirius with a lowered voice, “I thought they were just friends. They were in school.”
“They were never just friends. Y/n has always been James’s weakness. Now she’s his son’s too.”
please reblog or comment with your thoughts! they are very appreciated and keep me motivated to keep writing! 🤍

Alley - @jegulus-microfic - word count: 194
It was 2am and Regulus had had enough.
It was already ridiculous that Sirius had convinced him to go to this godforsaken club. That he was here, in a crowd full of drunk idiots, observing the way people were all-but-fucking on the dance floor. That he was consuming a drink that tasted of cotton candy and vodka while throwing a finger at the burly man who was giving him a superior look.
But to have to do all these things while James Potter was there? Dressed in a crop top, with a goddamn belly button piercing?
Absolutely not.
So he did what any sane man would do.
He marched onto the dance floor, leaving his pink and blue drink behind, and grabbed Potter’s hand out of the air where he had thrown both up, interrupted him mid-grind with some ridiculously muscular six-foot-something arsehole, and dragged him outside.
Then, he pressed him firmly into the alley wall and murmured “Enough” into his ear, nearly growling the word, making them both shiver.
But James just grinned, pressing back into him, arms winding around his waist. “Took you long enough, love,” he chided, before connecting their lips.

I'D PICK HER OVER ME — james fleamont potter
note: I do not own any of the characters in harry Potter except for the plot in this small fic. This is purely made for entertainment purposes as well as cuz I am craving for some angst.
warnings!: mentions of death, angst

James was tired, he really was.
Being a single father was hard, plus being an auror for the ministry. His schedule from his work as well as being a father at the same time was harder than the war that had just ended four years ago.
James sighed in exhaustion as he covered his eyes with his arm while laying on his bed. He had just came back from a meeting in the ministry that ended two hours ago. The meeting ended very late and he hadn't had the time to rest until earlier before waking up in cold sweat.
James had nightmares. It was always the same.
Getting paralyzed by a spell, watching his wife get killed by a dark curse, his son almost dying but some miracle happened and the curse thrown at him was rebounded towards the killer, and repeat. All the same thing, every night.
So James did the only thing that helped him everytime it happened. Sitting up as he groaned, he began to stand up to walk towards downstairs and to the kitchen. Arriving at the location, he began to brew tea. Normally when he was still in his adolescence, he would drink firewhiskey to cope with the war, but now he settled for tea that he added a teaspoon of honey to cope with his loss.
It was what his wife always had whenever she was stressed, tea with a bit of honey. Something he never understood why that preference until now.
"Papa?" A timid voice of a young boy called out to James making him snap out of his daze.
"Yes, Harry?" James said to his son. Harry was a four year old boy, unruly brown hair like his father, circular black glasses on his face because of the poor eyesight he gained from his father. He was practically the carbon copy of James Potter but the only thing different is his son's eyes. It was his mother's, the only woman James had ever loved.
"Where's Mama?" Harry questioned. The air stilled but the small child was oblivious of it. It was a very sensitive topic but it is not a taboo. With sharp intake of breath, James knelt down to his son's height, putting his hand on his shoulder as he fixed his gaze on Harry's.
"Your mother." James started as he paused for a moment to think of a sentence to explain why his mother is gone. "Is in a far away land, at the moment."
"But why so far?"
"Because, Harry, she is trying to protect us from something and she needs to go away for a while." That's it, James. The father encouraged himself. He's still young, tell him when he is old enough. He continued these thoughts as he looked at his son's thoughtful expression.
"Will she come back?"
Silence. There was no answer to that question as James embraced his son in his arms, brows furrowed as tears were threatening to fall from its sockets. The truth was, his mother was not gonna come back but how could he tell that to his four year old son?
Finally having set his son to bed, James took one last glance to Harry before going downstairs to sit on the couch of the living room. The honey-tea has long gone cold as he sat in front of the fire that was slowly dwindling. James stared blankly at it as his thoughts were loud but at the same time quiet.
If only you were here.
"If I could pick on who would survive that day, I would've picked you." James muttered to himself out loud, quietly sniffling his tears that slowly fell on his cheeks to his hands.
"Because you would've known what to do.."
The crying of a baby echoed through the house in Godric's Hollow. The scene showed a master bedroom, two bumps could be seen under sheets of the bed. As the cry continued, one of the figures moved.
"Fuck.."
A deep male's voice cursed out as he sat up, not being able to fall asleep now because of the noise. Another voice moaned out from being awaken from the movement of the man.
"I'll take care of him, love. Just continue sleeping." The man coaxed to his wife beside him who blinked at him to ask if he's sure.
"You sure?"
"Yea, you sleep and I'll tend, yea?" With that, the woman went back to her dreams as the man carefully unravels himself from the sheets before walking out the bedroom to the nursery.
"Shh, it's okay, Harry. I got you, bud." He said the moment he took Harry from the crib and coaxed him in his arms. The man was James Potter, the leader of the band of misfits, Marauders is now a father. The one thing he never knew he would be with the war going on.
Harry, the baby, now stopped his fussing and opened his eyes that he got from his mother to stare at his father. Smiling widely, he giggled and tried to reach for James' hair.
"Hey now, not the hair you little twit."
"Do not curse at our child, James Fleamont Potter." A stern melodic voice spoke out from behind the father who flinched as James chuckled sheepishly.
"I'm not...." James trailed off as he looked everywhere but his wife, who rolled her eyes.
"I swear, I can't leave you alone for one second with Harry." You scolded your husband with a slight slap on his arm making him grin at you.
"You love me!" James teased to which you rolled your eyes again.
"Unfortunately." You said while grabbing Harry out of his hands and propping him up on your hip.
"What is that supposed to mean?!"
James leaned against the door frame of the kitchen as he wore a pink apron with a giant cute teddy bear printed on its front, courtesy of Sirius saying it was to look husband material and James agreeing to it because he was told it was husband material, he was listening to you humming a small song to Harry as you kept him occupied by holding up a toy on your son's face.
James was cooking up lunch because he wanted you to rest and let him handle household chores while you occupy your son. It was the least he could do for you as the war lead both of you into hiding your son from the Dark Lord because of a prophecy. He knew you wanted to spend more time with Harry before the worse happens, so he did all the chores while you spend your time with your child, even after so many of your refusals.
James smiled in content as well as fondness as he watched the both of you. How could he have such a wonderful family with how arrogant and stupid he was when he was a teen. He didn't think he deserved such thing after being such a prejudice prick towards Slytherins.
"Take Harry and run!" James yelled out to you as he tried to push the Dark Lord back even if it was just for a delay. He couldn't let him get to both of you, you're all that he had left.
Successfully stunning the Dark Lord, James then ran upstairs to be with you and Harry. It was the only thing he could do to help you run away before the Dark Lord catches up. Unfortunately, James underestimated the Dark Lord's recovery from a stunning hex. The moment James arrived at the doorframe of the nursery of where you were, he fell paralyzed by the spell the Dark Lord had thrown at him.
"No.." James mumbled as his eyes went wide in horror. He kept chanting the word like a mantra as he helplessly watched the scene in front of him. His mumbles becoming screams as he sobbed heavily. Sweat dripped from his forehead as his face turned red, eyes squinting, brows furrowing hard as tears kept flowing down like a waterfall from his reddening eyes.
No...not my family..
Not the one I just built..
Please don't do this to me..
A green light blinded the whole room as a loud thump echoed the room. Silence overlapped as the Dark Lord grinned viciously. James' brown eyes stilled as he watched the limped lifeless body of the woman he was proud to say was his, the love of his life, the mother of his son, his wife, you.
James was not spared from tragedy as he now watched his son getting cursed by the Dark Lord before he stared in disbelief as the curse rebounded and hit the one who casted it. Watching as a lightning bolt of a cut appeared on his son's forehead.
But the moment he was free from his trap, he screamed in agony, not from his wounds, but from the death of his love.
"Now, Harry. If I could choose on who would've lived between me and your mother." James said to his son who was now in his teen, sixteen, as they stood in front of a gravestone. A familiar name etched in the stone.
[ Your Name ] Potter
[ Birthdate ] — October 31st, 1981
"In loving memory of a great friend, sister, mother, and wife."
"I'd pick her over me."
"Why?"
"Because, she would've known what to do."

Glasses !
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Y/N and Regulus take Harry to get glasses after he bumps straight into the door frame.
[Regulus Black x Fem Potter! reader]
warnings: Fluff, slightly humorous
words: 0.6k
-
It started with small things.
Harry missing his cup when reaching for his pumpkin juice at breakfast. Squinting at his books when Y/N or Regulus tried to get him to read. Tripping over his own feet more often than usual. At first, they thought it was just clumsiness—he was four, after all.
Then he walked straight into the doorframe.
Regulus, who had been sipping his tea, barely blinked as Harry let out a small oof and stumbled backward, rubbing his forehead. Y/N, however, immediately crouched down beside him.
“Harry, love, are you alright?” she asked, brushing his messy hair away to check for any bumps.
Harry pouted, rubbing his forehead. “The door moved.”
Regulus raised an unimpressed eyebrow. “No, it didn’t.”
Harry crossed his arms. “Well, it felt like it did.”
Y/N hummed, glancing at Regulus before looking back at Harry. “Sweetheart, have you been having trouble seeing things lately?”
Harry shrugged. “I dunno.”
Regulus sighed, setting down his tea. “I think we need to take him to the eye healer.”
Harry’s eyes widened in alarm. “A what?”
Y/N chuckled, adjusting her own glasses. “Someone who helps people see better. Like how I wear glasses, remember?”
Harry blinked, looking up at her. “Oh… but you look good in glasses.”
Y/N grinned. “And you will too if you need them.”
Harry frowned but didn’t argue.
The next day, after breakfast (which involved Sirius trying to convince Harry to wear an eyepatch instead of glasses because it was ‘cooler’), they made their way to St. Mungo’s Department of Magical Vision and Sight.
Harry swung his legs idly from his chair in the waiting area, glancing at Y/N. “Did you have to get glasses when you were little too?”
She smiled. “I did. I was about your age when my mum took me for my first pair.”
Harry considered this. “Did Daddy James wear them too?”
Y/N’s smile softened. “Yes, he did. Since he was a boy.”
Harry looked thoughtful. “Maybe I should get glasses… then I’ll match you and Daddy James.”
Regulus snorted. “As if you had a choice.”
Before Harry could respond, the healer called them in.
The eye healer, an older wizard with kind eyes, greeted them warmly. “Alright, young man, let’s see how those eyes are working.”
Harry went through a series of tests, from reading different-sized letters to following a floating quill with his eyes. He giggled when the quill changed colors but frowned when he struggled with some of the smaller letters.
After a few more checks, Healer Aldwyn nodded. “Well, my boy, you’re a bit nearsighted. Not too bad, but you’ll need some glasses to help you see clearly.”
Harry gasped. “Like Mama?”
Y/N smiled. “Just like me, love.”
Harry beamed. “Then I want glasses!”
At the attached vision shop, Harry tried on several pairs, wrinkling his nose at most of them.
“These,” he finally said, grabbing a pair of small, round frames. “They look like Mama’s, but smaller!”
Y/N’s heart melted. “Oh, love, you look adorable.”
Regulus smirked. “Now he just needs to start losing all of his books like you do.”
Y/N rolled her eyes and nudged him playfully.
As they walked out, Harry kept adjusting his glasses, looking around in amazement. “I can see so much! Look, Baba! The clouds are so fluffy! And the sign isn’t blurry anymore!”
Regulus smirked. “That is the point of glasses, Harry.”
Harry grinned up at Y/N. “We match now, Mama!”
Y/N ruffled his hair. “Yes, we do, love.”
Regulus glanced between them, then sighed. “Great. Now there are two of you.”
Y/N smirked. “Poor you.”
Harry giggled, and the three of them headed home—where Sirius, upon seeing Harry’s glasses, dramatically clutched his chest and declared, “MY GODSON LOOKS JUST LIKE JAMES! I’M HAVING AN EMOTIONAL CRISIS!” before proceeding to chase Harry around the house yelling, “NERD ALERT!”
Regulus groaned. Y/N laughed.
And Harry?
He just felt pretty cool.

the night was painted with shadows, the moon casting a silvery glow over the walls of the potter house. a gentle breeze whispered through the window, carrying with it the sounds of chatter in the streets below. curled up in the bay window sat a y/h/c girl with forest-green eyes who stared longingly at the four boys playing in the large expanse of grass behind their house. she longed to be allowed to play with the boys, to know the joy of having friends that weren't her brother or their pet cat.
"y/n potter, you know you can't have the windows open!" euphemia potter shouted as she rushed to shut the open window and wrap yet another blanket around the frail girl.
"mama, i'm fine." y/n struggled out, her voice only allowing her to speak at a mere whisper.
"you're freezing, y/n." euphemia pulled her daughter into her arms, feeling the cold radiating through the many layers of blankets covering her. "you're never going to get better if you keep trying to make yourself more sick."
"but i just wanna go outside and play with the boys for a bit. five minutes, that's all i want." y/n tried to beg her mother, already feeling exhausted from just the movement of walking back to sit on her bed.
"you can play with the boys if they come back inside before they leave. i can't have you outside in that cold. i'm sorry, darling." euphemia pressed a kiss to her daughter's temple, before walking back out of the room and shutting the door behind her.
y/n sighed falling back into her duvet. she couldn't understand why no one would allow her to have fun with her brother's friends as well. why she's locked away in her room whenever they come over during the winter holiday? her mother said it was for her own good and health, but she just felt like a freak in her mother's eyes. like she was something her parents were ashamed of.
for as long as she could remember, y/n potter had been sick. she has spent longer in st. mungo's than she has in her own home. her parents had spent years trying to find answers to her mysterious illness, going as far as travelling over to the americas to visit a well-known healer who was said to have the answers to her illness. but as with all of their other endeavors, they came up empty-handed and with even more questions than answers.
her health had become so deteriorated in the past year that she had to forgo attending hogwarts at the same time as her twin brother, james. her parents had hired a local wizard tutor to home-school her until she would be able to attend hogwarts herself, something that seemed less and less likely the further into winter y/n got.
"y/n! the boys are going in five minutes if you wanna come and meet them!" james' voice carried from the front room into her bedroom, alerting her to the appearance of the boys from the garden.
y/n could hear her mother berating her brother for shouting in the house and to go and help his sister down from her room if she was going to meet his friends. she pulled herself out of the bed, making her way over the door with the blankets her mother had wrapped around her cradling her.
"y/n/n, come on." james burst through her door, grabbing her thin wrist in his arms and already making his way down the hallway. "you're going to love them."
"jamie, jamie slow down. i can't walk that fast." y/n rasped out, her brother coming to a complete halt as he realised, in his excitement, that he'd completely forgotten how ill his sister had gotten in the short four months he was away.
"oh, y/n/n. i'm so sorry. i was just so excited for you to meet them that i completely forgot." james pulled his sister in for a hug, continuing their walk down the stairs but at a much-reduced speed. "i've told them so much about you, you have nothing to worry about."
"exactly how much?" y/n looked at her brother in suspicion, knowing exactly what stories he would love to share with his friends.
"just the good things. mostly." james winked, pushing the door to the living room open to reveal their parents talking to the three small boys. "guys, this is my sister, y/n."
"it's nice to meet you." y/n tried to speak at her top volume, already feeling her throat drying up and in pain from the few words spoken.
"i'm remus lupin, nice to meet you." the sandy-haired boy with scars across his arms and legs smiled as he looked anywhere but her eyes.
"nice to meet you, remus." y/n smiled back, sitting down between her parents who both wrapped yet another blanket that was thrown over the back of the sofa.
"i'm p-peter pett-tigrew." the smallest of the three bowed his head slightly as he greeted the girl.
"and i'm sirius black." the black-haired boy sitting on the armrest of the sofa said with a charming smirk. "what's with all the blankets?"
"sirius!" remus smacked the boy around the head. "you can't just ask questions like that."
"it's okay, remus." y/n smiled, reassuring the boys. "i'm sick. have been for as long as i can remember and the cold makes me much worse than i already am. we've tried everything but have no answers to how I can get better."
"i'm sorry." sirius sounded genuinely sincere as he bowed his head slightly.
"have you tried muggle doctors?" remus asked in a light voice, earning silence as the purebloods of the room looked at him puzzled.
"why in merlin's name would we go to muggles for help?" fleamont asked in disbelief.
"it sounds like a muggle disease that my grandmother had before she died." remus fiddles with his hands. "they can give y/n a medicine that will help heal her back up to full health."
"how would we be able to get this medicine?" euphemia placed a calming hand on her husband's arm.
"my mum can help you get in contact with a doctor who can help heal y/n." remus smiled, looking down at the watch as he noticed it was past his curfew already.
"oh, would you look at the time."fleamont announced as he stood to face the grandfather clock. "well, best be off boys. don't want to be on the end of another howler from your mothers."
the boys smirked to themselves, remembering the howler that was opened during dinner one evening after they were caught messing with the nifflers in the garden. one of them had to be magically lifted out of the tree that the boys had scared it into, a feat that y/n had watched sadly from the window, having forged a strong bond with the runt of the niffler's litter over her time kept at home.
"thank you for having us, mrs potter, mr potter." remus bowed his head slightly as he pulled his jacket out from behind the sofa. "i hope we will be able to come back during the spring break as well?"
"of course, my dears. you're welcome here anytime. even you, sirius." mr Potter smiled knowingly at the raven-haired boy, having attended hogwarts at the same time as some of his family and knowing the legacy his family had left behind for him.
"thank you, sir." sirius seemed shy for the first time in the short while that y/n had met him, clearly not used to such generosity. his reaction made the girl wonder what terrible upbringing could've caused such reactions to such a small gesture.
y/n's eyes wandered to the small, meek boy who was still trapped within the many cushions of the red sofa. his hands were held close to his chest as though he was scared to touch anything around him. His thin, mousy hair clung to his scalp, and his anxious, darting eyes seemed to constantly search for an escape route.  his lips were turned down in a deep frown, spreading all the way up to his brows, creating a crease down the centre of his forehead.
y/n couldn't help but feel the unease that seemed to radiate from him, as an aura of vulnerability marked him apart from the other boys, who each exuded a sort of confidence in the few interactions she had observed from them.
"are you okay, peter?" y/n asked in a hushed tone, bringing the movement of the other boys to a halt.
"you alright, pete?" james approached his friend, worried by the scared look that grew rapidly on his friend's face as he grew nearer.
"i may have broken a mug." peter mumbled, pulling the shards from the pocket of his coat he had yet to take off since he arrived many hours before.
"oh, that's fine, my dear. we have tons of them." euphemia waved her hands, snapping her fingers and calling for one of the house elves. "ribly! come here this instant!"
y/n had always hated how her parents treated the house elves that served them, often overhearing and occasionally witnessing the 'punishments' they would endure for the smallest of mistakes.
ribly appeared in the living room with a crack, already hurrying over to peter with a broom to collect any shards that had escaped his grasp.
"ribly will clean it up, mr peter. ribly will fix it, ms potter." the small house-elf was quick to sweep up the few remains on the ground, only stumbling a few times in her haste, before disapparating out of the room as quickly as she had entered it.
"don't mind her. she likes to be efficient." mr potter chuckled to himself, brushing off the looks each of the children were giving him and his wife. "well, why don't you all go through the fireplace? will be much easier than taking the muggle route home. especially for you, sirius."
y/n watched as sirius gulped at the thought of home, cementing in her mind that he didn't have a happy home outside of Hogwarts.
"again, thank you for having us. it was nice to meet you, y/n. i do hope to see you again." remus smiled timidly once more, hugging james briefly before he walked into the fireplace and disappeared in a green flame with a mumble of his home.
"t-thank you." peter scrambled to follow him, almost forgetting to grab a handful of floo powder before he too disappeared into the ashes.
a beat passed before y/n returned her eyes to an even more anxious and fidgeting sirius.
"mate, we'll see each other in a few weeks. you can't miss me that much whilst you're gone." james patted his best friend on the shoulder, not quite getting the truth behind his apprehension.
"yeah." sirius chuckled dryly to himself. "yeah. i'll see you after christmas, james."
sirius pulled the bespectacled boy into a tight hug, before glancing over at the small girl still squashed against her mother on the sofa. her green eyes held a knowing twinkle in them that hadn't been there before, a sympathetic smile gracing her lips.
"it was nice to meet you, y/n/n." sirius winked, stealing the nickname he had previously heard james calling her. "and thank you, mrs potter again for having us. oh. and do give my thanks to ribly for the tea, i'm sure she deserves it."
euphemia opened and closed her mouth in disbelief, not quite knowing how to respond to the cheek of the boy. y/n stiffled a giggle as she remembered hearing her mother glowing in the praise from the boys over how quickly she had put together tea and biscuits for them when they came inside the house.
"i'll be sure to write to you all about our adventures at hogwarts, y/n/n. Now I know you're real and not this git's imaginary best friend." sirius winked once last time before disappearing into a cloud of green.
silence fell over the potters as the twins tried not to laugh at their mother's shocked expression and how their father was frozen in his spot staring into the fireplace.
"well, i'm not sure who raised that boy but they certainly need a clip round the ear for the cheek he was giving me." euphemia scoffed, brushing off her skirt as she stood to exit the room.
"well, i for one, love them all." y/n grinned, already excited at the prospect of possibly being healed of her illness. "can we do what remus said, father? can we go see the muggle healer?"
fleamont only scoffed, walking out into the gardens with a slam of the door behind him.
"don't worry. i'll convince him. or more likely, i'll annoy him into agreeing." james winked at his sister, moving to help her back up the stairs and into her bedroom.
"and if that doesn't work?" y/n coughed as she finished her sentence.
"oh, it'll work." he only smirked, closing the door behind him after he settled her into the plush duvet and multitude of pillows.
—————
y/n bounced on her toes as she stretched over the crowds to catch a glimpse of the train pulling into the platform. her parents and her brother's friend's parents surrounded her in much less excited states, mrs lupin and ms pettigrew having a conversation about the odd letter they'd received from professor mcgonagall about an incident involving a toilet seat being stolen from one of the bathrooms.
"y/n, settle down. You're going to waste all your energy before the train even arrives." fleamont placed his hands firmly on his daughter's shoulders, stopping her in her place.
"but, father. jamie's nearly here, he doesn't even know i'm better yet. i just can't wait for him to see me." y/n grinned up at her father, their identical eyes staring into one another.
"and you'll be able to see him when he arrives, so long as you calm down." fleamont pressed harder on her shoulder, actually pushing her shoulders further into her back.
"yes, dad." y/n stopped her peering, instead staring behind her shoulder at the small crowd of blondes that had entered through the barrier only moments before.
the group of witches and wizards bared a likeness to one another besides their matching light-coloured hair, two of the girls having matching smirks as they ran ahead of their parents. the mother of the group struggled to catch up with the girls, giving up as she lost them to the masses of parents and children. the pair stumbled out from the crowd beside the potters, too peering over the crowds to catch a glimpse of the train approaching. they soon gave up as they realised they wouldn't be able to see over the masses of parents already pushing to reach the doors of the carriages. as they turned back to find their parents, the taller of the two locked eyes with y/n with a grin.
"it's no use trying. i've already been elbowed by more vicious mothers than i can count." y/n rubbed her arms where the feeling of their bony elbows remained.
"are you waiting for your brother or sister too?" the shorter twin grinned, happy to have found someone who looked to be their age.
"my twin brother." y/n grinned.
"twin?" the taller twin shared a glance with her sister. "why aren't you there with him?"
"i was ill." y/n could already see the pity filling their once cheerful faces. "b-but i'll be starting in september. dumbledore sent me the letter just this morning."
"so will we!" the twins said in a creepily matching tone.
"holly! heather!" a stern voice broke their conversation. "you can't just run off like that."
"oh, it's okay. they've just been here with us, avery. no need to fret." y/n's mother turned to the commotion, clearly recognising the man from her time at hogwarts.
"euphemia." the blonde man nodded his head once, before ushering the girls back to where their mother was sternly watching from afar. "come now, girls. don't want to disturb the potters after all."
"bye!" the shorter twin shouted.
"see you in september!" the other shouted after her before the trio were lost in the crowds.
"mum, who was that?" y/n turned to her mother, who was still staring off with a far-off look in her eyes.
"charlus avery. he was in my year at hogwarts." her mother brushed off the questions that were lingering on the tip of her daughter's tongue. "now, why don't we go find the boys?"
"but-" she couldn't finish her sentence before she was distracted by the familiar brunette head of her brother exiting the train carriage.
before her mother could stop her, y/n was off. she pushed past the vicious mothers from before, who glowered in her path and even pushed a few older hogwarts students out of the way all in her attempt to reach her twin. but her mind was flooded with guilt and gratitude towards the sandy-haired boy who was being rough-housed off of the train by sirius.
"remus!" y/n ran towards the boy as he stepped off of the hogwarts express, wrangling him into a  hug and completely ignoring her brother and his other friends.
"wow. no hello, not even a smile. some sister you are." james grumbled, not looking at the girl as he helped pettigrew carry the large cage of his cat off of the train.
y/n glared at her brother over remus' shoulder, not even giving him a taunt back, before she pulled back and grasped the boy's shoulders tightly. "thank you so much. i don't know what i would've done without you."
"i-i'm sorry?" remus stood in shock, not quite believing the once-sick girl in front of him was almost glowing as she bounced in place.
"we visited the muggle doctor like you suggested and they were able to heal me." y/n giggled, finally seeing her brother standing beside the sandy-haired boy. "jamie!"
"y/n/n? oh my god. you look so healthy." james squeezed his sister tight to his chest, burying his head in her shoulder to hide the tears pouring out of his eyes.
"boys! hurry and help mr potter with the bags!" mrs lupin shouted, waving them over to where mr potter was lugging the bags over to a large pile by their parents.
"sorry, dad!" james ran over to help his dad carry the remaining bags over to the group.
"so, no more blanket forts then?" a cockier than usual voice approached behind y/n.
"well, i can't spend my days at hogwarts in a bundle of blankets now can I?" y/n grinned as both sirius and peter stumbled behind her, trying to catch up with the newly speedy girl.
"y-you're coming to h-hogwarts?" peter stuttered out.
"yep. got my letter this morning. dumbledore must have been eager." y/n skipped her way back to her parents, curling into her mother's side who stared down at her with a fondness in her eyes that james had only seen a few times.
"it's so odd seeing her that.. energetic." james tilted his head to the side, not quite believing that it was indeed his little sister beaming up at their mother at the train platform.
"well, i for one, love it." sirius grinned, chasing after the girl to meet up with his friend's parents.
"remus, has she always had that small furry thing on her shoulder or have i gone insane?" peter leant up to the taller boy's ear, pointing at the creature that seemed to burrowing itself into her neck.
remus could only shake his head before he too was trailing after the girl, staring at the creature that was pulling the golden necklace from y/n's neck.
"y/n!" remus raced forward, pointing at the now-identified niffler. "you've got a niffler! it's stealing your necklace!"
y/n barely blinked as she stared down at the grey-bodied creature staring up at her as if it had been caught red-handed in a robbery.
"oh, jamie. what are you doing here?" y/n merely pulled the niffler out of her hair and tucked him into the inside pocket of her coat.
"i'm coming back from hogwarts?" james asked in question as he turned away from their father.
"oh, not you jamie. jamie junior." y/n proudly presented the niffler to her brother as he was stashing their mother's wedding ring into his pouch.
"that little rat. i knew i didn't lose my ring." euphemia glared at her sheepish husband who had blamed her for the act that morning.
"sorry, mum. jamie just likes shiny things, and your ring is the shiniest thing in the house besides my necklace."y/n pouted, upset that her newfound friend had been the cause of the argument between her parents that morning.
"it's okay, dear. i'll just have to charm it so that it doesn't get stolen again." she said in a manner that she usually used to scold her children.
"but why jamie?" james was still confused, staring into the black eyes of the creature that had stolen his namesake.
"well, uh." y/n was embarrassed to reveal the truth of jamie's name in front of her brother's friends. "i didn't have you at home anymore, so i um. i have my own jamie to replace you when you're not there."
james' confusion quickly turned to smugness at his sister's revelation.
"you missed me!" james pulled his sister into a headlock. "you missed me and couldn't wait for me to get back."
"oh, shut up." y/n blushed as she pushed her brother's arms away from her.
"ain't got to miss him for too long, love." sirius gestured, nudging the girl.
"what does he mean, y/n/n?" james asked, glossing over the nickname entirely.
"dumbledore sent me my letter this morning. i start at hogwarts in september." y/n glowed as she thought of finally being able to attend classes with other kids her age instead of by herself with mrs. flemming and mr. nilsen.
james couldn't fight the grin that broke out across his face as he leapt to pull his sister into a tight embrace. y/n's slight frame was swallowed by james's. she buried her face in his shoulder, inhaling the familiar scent of their father's aftershave he had stolen.
james' gentle laughter filled the quietness as he squeezed her tightly. "i missed you so much, y/n/n," he whispered in her ear.
tears welled up in y/n's eyes as she replied, her voice muffled against his shoulder, "i missed you too, jamie."
they held onto each other for what felt like an eternity, the bond between siblings stronger than ever.
"are you two done?" peter squeaked from behind them. "jamie junior has stolen all of my mum's jewellery and i think she's finally noticed."
"oh, merlin. i love your niffler, y/n/n." sirius laughed, watching as the pureblood woman began to flit about the station chasing after the tiny creature as it raced away towards the freedom that was the barrier to the station.
"yeah, he's definitely gonna be a handful at hogwarts." y/n grinned, unbeknownst to the chaos such a decision was going to cause her.

tension between you and James is on the rise as you reach the last couple weeks of your pregnancy, and insecurity starts getting the best of your husband — dad!farmer!james x mom!reader fluff, hurt/comfort
warnings: reader is quite pregnant, jealousy, worries of cheating (irrational fear here, of course), relationship insecurity, body insecurity, and it gets pretty suggestive at the end

Harry ran as quickly as his little legs could take him through the field, over to his dad and the new farmhand so he could invite them in for lemonade you had just made with the kids.
You watched the adorable sight from inside while holding your 18 month-old against your chest. It was hard to manoeuvre while heavily pregnant but Ivy loves being held, and it’s so hard saying no to your little girl.
Harry ran inside first, sporting a proud grin and announcing that he had done as you asked. Since you couldn’t bend down to kiss him, you patted your son on his head and poured him a glass of the lemonade you promised him for calling over the men inside.
Your son happily gulped down the drink and held out his glass, asking for a refill. You smiled and obliged his request. As you poured once again, James strode in while making an exaggerated expression of disappointment.
“You’re supposed to be resting.” He reminded you, as if you could forget.
“I didn’t strain myself making the lemonade, and I got a helper to pass on the message to you boys outside.”
James tousled Harry’s hair, letting him know he was proud. “Good boy, helping your mama.”
“I made the lemonade too!” Harry beamed, liquid rimming his mouth from his forceful downing of the drink.
“Yes, you did!” You turned to James, smiling smugly. “See, it’s basically rest.”
He frowned, disapproving of your decision to keep up with small tasks when your doctor has recommended that you spend most of your time resting until the new baby comes.
“I’m not worried, Jamie.”
“Well, I am.” He told you, gently taking Ivy from your arms and holding her with significantly less effort than it takes you to do the same thing. “I’m your husband, so it’s my job to worry about you. Please go relax upstairs. I can’t relax if you don’t.”
“I can’t see the barn or the field when I’m in bed. I get sad without that view.”
Flattery would not work on James in this scenario, but you could see that it was definitely helping. His face softened and hints of a smile were almost peeking out.
Interrupting your little moment, Jack, the new farmhand walked through the front door.
You turned away from James so you could pour the younger man some lemonade, but he interjected.
“I can get that, Miss Potter. I’m the one working for you, no need to put yourself out in your condition.” Jack said, reaching for the lemonade and an empty glass on the counter.
You heard James muttering an angry “Missus” under his breath, but you chose to ignore it.
Other than the title, Jack was right. He was preaching exactly what you had been upset with James for bothering you about. But you could only be mad at James, since he was your husband and his lectures were constant.
“Isn’t it good, Dad?” Harry asked happily, looking up at his father.
“It’s amazing, Haz.” He said, really to both you and Harry.
Then the new farmhand spoke up with his own testimony to the beverage. “It’s the best I’ve ever had.”
James noticed you looked flattered at the pair of compliments—he hoped you gave his own a little bit more weight—and guzzled down the rest of his drink.
“Alright, love, let’s get you settled back upstairs.” Your husband said, a hand gesturing up to your bedroom, but not for anything fun.
“I think I’ll sit outside for a bit.” You countered. “That way I can still relax like you want me to, but I still spend time with the kids as they run around out there.”
Although James couldn’t theoretically object to that, he knew if he gave you a little bit of leeway by accepting this proposal, you’d go even further with it and that did nothing but stress James out.
You two just stared at each other in a silent standoff, seeing who would budge first. You crossed your arms, and with that, James knew you weren’t wavering any time soon. Your husband sighed, then agreed that you could lounge around outside on the condition that you stayed on the porch swing for a majority of the time.
Satisfied with that, you took your son’s hand and waddled out to the porch, James following while carrying Ivy out so she could sit with you as well.
Your husband tucked Ivy and Harry against your sides, then went back to work out in the field while Jack went over to the barn.
“Mummy, I want to work out there!” Harry exclaimed after a couple minutes of calm cloud gazing.
“You don’t want to stay here and keep me company?”
Harry looked slightly conflicted, and you were sure much of the concern that your young son had for you had been placed there by James. It was sometimes nice to have your husband worried about you, but it felt bittersweet to have Harry do the same when he had much better things to occupy his innocent mind.
“I’m kidding, honey.” You unwrapped your arm from around his side and helped him off the swing. “Go ask your dad if he has anything you can do. He’ll put you to work in no time.”
That was apparently all the boy needed to hear, since he ran off towards his father as soon as the words left your mouth.
You turned to the little girl on your other side and took her little hand in yours since you couldn’t let her sit on your lap in your condition.
“Well, it’s just you and me, princess.”
She looked at you and pouted softly. You could already tell she was a busybody like the rest of the family, and that she would much rather be playing or walking around the farm than sitting on the porch.
“I know, Ivy. I’m bored too, but we’ll get through it. Look at the boys out there.”
You two sat on the porch swing, rocking slightly, for what felt like hours—it was really more like thirty minutes. Ivy’s been babbling for a while, and that’s been the only thing keeping you sane.
Then you noticed Jack walking over towards the house, holding something in a closed fist.
“Hi, Miss Potter.” The twenty year-old began.
“Hi, Jack.” You smiled. “What have you got there?”
“I was cleaning out the hayloft, and I found this old bracelet up there.”
He held out his hand, showing off a dainty piece of jewelry. It was definitely weathered, but it wasn’t necessarily dirty, and you could still see it was silver with a few pearls decorating it.
“Oh, that’s lovely.” You commented. “Isn’t that pretty, honey?”
Your daughter repeated the word ‘pretty’ in the adorable way she does when copying you. Then you brought your attention back to the farmhand.
“I’m not sure how it got there, I’ve never seen it before. Maybe a bird brought it in. I’ll ask James if he recognises it too.”
“Do you want me to bring it over to him?”
“No, that’s alright.” You replied. “If you could bring it inside and put it in a bowl by the sink, though, that would be great. And feel free to get yourself a drink from the kitchen, too.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He shot you a smile as he headed inside the house, politely wiping his boots on the mat before entering and walking around.
You turned towards your daughter, curling her soft hair around your finger as she snuggled up against your hip.
“See that? We’ve got treasure on this farm, baby. We’ve got pearls growing out of the ground.”
Her smile mirrored yours and you thought her expression was so damn adorable even though you knew she didn’t understand at all what you were talking about.
Jack walked out of the house, the quiet creak of the front door interrupting you giggling over your daughter babbling about the farm and wherever else her mind was going.
“All done, Miss Potter.” He reported.
“Thank you, Jack.”
“Thank you!” Ivy spoke up, happily repeating after you.
You fawned over your own daughter, cheering her on for speaking, and while using such sweet manners at that. Jack joined in as well, telling the baby she did such a good job.
Unbeknownst to you, your husband was watching from across the property, a judging expression on his face as he observed you and the young new farmhand being so friendly.
Of course James trusted you. Of course James was glad you were feeling happy after all you’ve been through with this tiring pregnancy. And of course James knew he was better company than some farmhand who was barely older than a high-schooler.
But he knows that you’re smiling at Jack and looking more giddy than you have with James for the past few weeks. He was young, charming, and quite fit. How could James not feel at least a little bit jealous and insecure?
And though James hated seeing it, he was absolutely not going to make a scene. But he was going to do something about it.
“Hey, Haz?” He called to the boy picking—and snacking on—cherry tomatoes.
Harry shot up, a smile on his face and a small tomato in his cheek.
“Can you come here for a second, mate? Bring the basket, please.”
Your son walked over to his dad, carrying over his haul.
“You’re doing so well picking the tomatoes, but I’m worried we’ll have nothing left over if I keep you on the job.” James joked, and the young boy smiled, knowing exactly what his dad meant. “New task for you, go entertain your mum, alright? Keep her company? She can’t do much to play with you, but I’m sure she’d love to hear a story. Think you can do that?”
Harry nodded and darted off to where you and Ivy were sitting on the porch, both enjoying Jack’s animal impressions that he had been putting on to impress the little girl at your side.
He climbed up onto the swing with you again, and you welcomed him with open arms. Well, one open arm, since you were holding Ivy close to you with the other.
“Oh, look whose boredom has been cured!” You teased, allowing him to sit right next to you.
“Daddy said I gotta keep you company.” He informed you happily.
“Did he, now? Well, that’s perfect ‘cause I was just starting to miss you.”
Jack took this reunion as his cue to leave, going back to his work in the barn with barely any acknowledgement as he left.
James, watching from across the property, didn’t even bother hiding his proud grin when he saw everything unfolding just as he had planned. He too went back to his work, only thinking about finishing for the day so he could go back inside with you and the kids—and no dumb farmhand.
Once James had done everything that he needed to do, he headed back over to the house, the whole family wearing matching smiles as he walked towards you.
“Hi, handsome.” You greeted him. “All done?”
“All done.” He replied. He then bent down to kiss you softly. “How are you feeling, lovie?”
“I’m great. Your little helper was doing such a good job keeping me and Ivy company.”
James proudly patted the top of Harry’s head. “That’s my boy.”
Harry grinned bashfully, happy for the validation that he had done well with the tasks he was given today.
“I’ll wash up and then I can make dinner, okay?”
“James—”
He cut you off, knowing exactly what your protest was before you could even start. “I’ll make dinner. Only reason I wouldn’t is if none of you were hungry.”
Shooting him a defeated glare, you stood up from the porch swing and took the kids inside with you, James trailing right behind you all.
“So what are you all hungry for?”
“Cheese sandwiches!” Harry said enthusiastically.
Of course he did.
Since you’ve been pregnant and taking more breaks lately—though you would never tell James you’ve been feeling slightly more tired since you’ve seen how serious he gets about your health—you’ve been making easier meals for the family. And Harry hasn’t been able to get enough of the extremely simple sandwiches you’ve been serving up.
James chuckled. “C’mon, it’s your mother that you need to go easy on, not me. What else do you want?”
But your little boy stuck with his choice, just as you knew he would.
“Sandwiches! The way Mummy makes them!”
James feigned shock and offense, jaw dropped and a hand to his heart.
“The way Mummy makes them? Is the way Daddy makes them not good enough?!”
“Mummy makes them the best!” Harry giggled, pointing at you.
You blew a kiss to your son as you sat your daughter in her high chair.
“Thank you, baby. You’re too nice to me.”
Harry lifted his little hand and mimed catching the kiss and pressing it to his cheek, mimicking what James does every time you blow him a kiss. It was so damn adorable, you blew another kiss just to watch him do it again, and it was just as cute the second time.
But all good things come to an end, and your attention was taken away from the boy by the sound of your front door opening and the sight of your new farmhand walking in.
“Sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to let you know that I’ve done all the work for the day, so I’ll be heading home.”
Good riddance, James thought. But you weren’t that mean.
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay for dinner?” You asked, walking over to the farmhand.
Before Jack could answer, James spoke up for him, eager to get the younger man out of your house.
“I’m sure he’s tired and just wants to get home, love.”
You turned to Jack and rested a reassuring hand on his bicep. You were worried about him not eating after a full day of working, but obviously James didn’t see it like that. James only noticed your hand on the young man’s arm, and he saw red. But of course, he couldn’t show it to you. James stood there, silently fuming and hoping that Jack would leave as soon as possible.
“Really, it’s nothing big.” You continued asking your farmhand if he wanted to stay a little longer. “James is making sandwiches, so it shouldn’t take long.”
James stepped in again, even though he tried not to. “Well it’ll take longer if we stand around talking about it.”
Sensing the start of some tension that he would rather avoid, Jack decided staying for dinner may not be the best idea.
“He’s right, Miss Potter. I should be getting going. Have a good night.”
You and the kids waved him goodbye as Jack headed out. James however, did not. But you chose to ignore that for the time being, telling yourself your husband was just eager to end his work day and spend time with his family.
From practically the second the door closed behind the farmhand, James seemed alright. James made dinner, played with the kids, and even took the lead with putting them to bed afterwards.
You were almost willing to look past it and just go to sleep, until James started acting oddly again, just as you were getting ready for bed.
The both of you were running through your normal bedtime routine—which was getting earlier and earlier now that James insisted you needed all the sleep you could get—and you had crawled into bed, getting comfortable.
You expected James to join you soon enough, so you picked up the book from your bedside table and waited as he finished up in the bathroom.
The door opened, and out walked your husband in his sleep pants and a tank top.
“Well, hello there, handsome.” You called, holding out a hand to invite him into bed with you.
“Hi, gorgeous.” James replied with a grin.
You thought he was coming to get into his side of the bed, but he stops at the foot of the bed and sits down on the floor instead.
Although it was more of a struggle than normal, you tried sitting up so you could get a better look at your husband, who was now beginning to lightly stretch on your carpet.
“Jamie, what are you doing down there?”
“Just getting a quick workout in, love.” He said that like it was totally normal, but you thought otherwise. You knew your husband far too well to believe him about this.
“The workout you did all day outside wasn’t enough for you?” You tried approaching it gently, teasing him a bit, because you wanted to keep the mood light.
“No, I just figured I should try to get a bit more in shape.”
“You’re in shape.” You told him with a hundred percent honesty.
He basically shrugged off your response, which only concerned you more. James has always been fit, and even though he doesn’t work out the same way he used to before having kids, he still spent his days doing manual labour, which kept him in great shape.
“Jamie, could you get up, please?”
He stood up immediately, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights. He sat down on the side of the bed, not breaking eye contact with you for a single second.
“Is everything okay?” He asks softly.
“That’s what I should be asking you, Jamie. What’s been going on with you lately?”
“What do you mean?”
The question was nonsense, and you both knew it. James had been acting differently than normal lately, and it was impossible to not notice. He was buying time for some reason, and you just wanted to figure out why.
“You know what I mean.” You told him with a defeated slump of your shoulders. “We’re too close for a lie like that to work on me. You’ve been watching me like a hawk, you’ve been irritable, and you seem like you’re trying to prove yourself for some reason. Talk to me, Jamie, please.”
James sighed, knowing there was no way he could, or reason he should, lie his way out of this. Being honest with his wife was far more valuable than his ego. And we’re talking about James Potter here, so that means a lot.
He shifted his form around so that he was face to face with you
“I’m worried I’m not good enough for you anymore, lovie.”
Your heart sank. James has been a little overbearing lately—for obvious reasons—and you’ve been letting him know how you felt, but you didn’t know he had been taking your criticism personally.
“James, I didn’t—”
“No, I know. It’s not your fault at all.” He interrupted you gently, taking your hands in his.
That was so like James. It was exactly what you loved about him—one of many reasons. Even when he was opening up about something that’s been on his mind, he was still trying to comfort you.
“I feel like we’re not as close right now as we usually are.” James continued. “And that’s no one’s fault, it’s just that the house is full of stress with the new baby coming soon, and we’re all adapting every day.”
You took a breath, knowing he was absolutely right. It’s no secret that the family has been full of all kinds of emotions as of late, but you and James haven’t really acknowledged the shifting of your relationship.
“I just can’t help but hurt a little when I see you with the farmhand and you’re gushing over him while he flexes his muscles and showers you with compliments. It reminds me of when we were younger, and I wonder if you would trade our life now for what it was like back then.”
You raised his hands, which were cradling yours, up to your lips and pressed a kiss to each hand.
“I’m sorry that I didn’t know how you felt.” You said softly. “It was nice back then, but it’s also pretty nice now, and I wouldn’t trade our life together for anything in the world.”
Your words seemed to have cheered your husband up a bit, as you saw a smile hit the corners of his lips.
“I promise I only have eyes for you, and you don’t need to do anything other than being your wonderful self to ensure that. I love you, even if I haven’t been showing it much lately. I’m sorry that I made you doubt our relationship, even in the slightest.”
You scanned his face, trying to read his emotions. Usually you were great at this, but tonight there was something a bit off, and you couldn’t quite tell what he was thinking.
Reassuring you that you two were okay, James nodded and leaned forward to press a kiss to your forehead.
“I love you too.” He promised, his hands falling to your hips. “I’m glad you still find me attractive.”
“You’re so attractive.” You leaned over—albeit slightly effortfully—and kissed his cheek as you spoke. “James Potter, you’re the sexiest person in the world.”
“No, definitely not.” He shook his head and bit the inside of his cheek.
This humility was unusual for James. Ever since you met, he’s been cocky and proud. He’s incredible in every way, and he knew it.
As he looked up at you and opened his mouth to speak again, you realised the sudden humble attitude was all an act.
“I’m probably second place. You’re definitely sexier.”
You bit back the grin that threatened you, but there was nothing you could do about the blush that flooded your cheeks. You shook your head and gestured to your body that was cloaked in a soft set of pink maternity pyjamas.
“Not like this, I’m not.”
James shook his head again and cupped your face in his hands so he could press a trail of kisses along your jaw. “I think you’re especially sexy like this. And if you weren’t ordered against any strenuous tasks, I’d prove it to you right now.”

The fireplace was warmly lit right in the middle of the living room, Hari surrounded with people in the living room.
Sirius and Remus were both snuggled tight on the couch, with Sirius complaining about being cold despite being directly in front of the fireplace. Marlene, Dorcas, and Mary were sat on the rug with Harry, playing trains on the rug you had gotten for him recently.
It was a small gift for Hari, a little rug with train tracks and other designs on it made so he could play with his toys. Of course, James ended up using it more than you did, but at least he used it with Harry most of the time.
Which led you to where you were right now. Currently holding the white beard your husband would have to put on to finish his Santa costume.
“Are you sure that I have to go out there looking like this?” James grumbled, his hands running through his hair that had been charmed white. “Sirius will definitely call me old!”
“Is that a bad thing?” you asked, looking at him with a small smirk. “I think you look rather dashing with the white hair, y’know.”
“Now that you mention it,” he mumbled under his breath, running his hand through his hair again as he leaned forward a bit more. In all honesty, he did look rather good with white hair. “I do look rather dapper, if I do say so myself.”
“Yes you do,” you smiled, walking forward and kissing his cheek lovingly. “You wanna put the beard on now?”
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, grabbing the beard and putting it on. You thought that he made a rather good Santa, especially after seeing his eyes crinkle at the side. “You think Hari will like it?”
“I think he’ll love it.” you whispered, kissing his cheek lovingly. You knew Hari would love it, even though the clever boy would probably realize it was his dad after a couple of minutes. “He can’t love something he doesn’t know exists though.”
James gasped dramatically before nodding. “You’re right!” he said, quickly rushing to the door to grab the boots he bought for the costume.
“I’ll go out first,” you smiled, kissing his forehead. “Thank you for doing this.”
“Anything for you,” he whispered softly, pouting as he realized he couldn’t kiss you. He compromised, instead booping your nose with his gloved hand. “And Bambi, of course.”
You chuckled at that. “I love you.”
“Love you more.” he smiled softly.
Tumblr media
“Hari!” you smiled widely, walking up to him as he waddled to you. “Hey baby.”
“Mama!” he smiled, hugging you as tight as a five year old really could. Which, surprisingly, was rather tight. “Where were you?”
“Mama was helping Daddy get ready for work,” you said with a small smile, kissing his forehead lovingly. “And, she has been very busy writing some letters to Santa for you.”
“Santa is coming?” Hari asked you excitedly, jumping up and down before you got a chance to say yes or no. “Thank you mama!”
“You’re welcome sweetheart,” you whispered, kissing his forehead and leading him to the couch.
Everyone got ready near the tree for photos, the fireplace barely crackling now as the kindle wood finally burnt itself dry. Remus was currently holding the camera, extending his arm far so everyone was in the photo. Lily, Mary, Marlene, and Dorcas were all standing together. Sirius was planning on hanging off of Remus’ shoulder, though him and Regulus started fighting midway through. Barty and Frank were both laughing in the background, Evan hitting them both with a newspaper.
And you were off in the corner with Hari in your arms, currently bouncing him up and down to distract him from all the noise. As much as you and Hari loved your family, you found that he didn’t like loud noises very much or very often.
“What’s on your mind, bubs?” you whispered, trying to divert his attention to just you while you had the chance. You didn’t need to try too hard to distract him though, as he was currently staring down the fireplace. “Something cool over there?”
“The fire’s green,” he mumbled, hand pointing at the tiny embers left kindling.
You gasped dramatically, watching as the fire roared and a tall man came out. He had on a red outfit and hat, along with glasses and white hair. “Is that Santa Claus?”
“Santa Claus!” Hari said happily, clapping his hands. Both of you walked over to where Santa, James, was standing. He had a sack of presents flung over his shoulder, and a wide smile on his face. “Hi there Mr. Santa!”
“Well, hello there!” James said, leaning down as his smile brightened even farther. He had gone the extra bit to try and deceive Hari, changing his eyes to a light blue color and his voice to a higher tone. “I’ve been told I’m making a visit to a very special boy this year, is that right?”
“I dunno,” Harry said, shrugging simply as he rested in your arms. “What’s his name?”
“Let me check.” James said seriously, pulling out a parchment paper with Hari’s name written in bold black ink. “His name is Hari Potter, do you know him?”
Hari laughed, clapping his hands again as he looked at the paper. “That’s me!”
“That’s you?” he asked, gasping dramatically before chuckling. His hands reached out to hold Hari, which you easily obliged to. “Well I’ll be, I’ve met a celebrity then!”
“I’m not a celebrity, Mr. Santa.” he said, still giggling. “I’m just Hari.”
“Just Hari is a great thing to be.” he smiled, placing Hari down on the floor before placing his sack of presents next to him. “Your mom pulled in a little favor and said you can open a couple of presents early, did you know that?”
Hari looked up at you with the widest smile you had ever seen on his face, and you knew that moment was one of the best moments you would ever have in your life. James obviously thought so too, his eyes crinkling from smiling so hard. You weren’t sure if he could even see with how far they crinkled, but you knew that he wouldn't care much.
“I can?” Hari asked excitedly, smiling brightly.
“Yes, ‘course you can.” James smiled, pulling out a medium sized present and handing it to Hari. “Here you go, Merry Christmas.”
Hari gasped loudly, opening it up to find a book that he had been wanting for ages. It was one you saw him eyeing every time you went to Hogsmeade, a book about the Quidditch team that his father played on. It listed every single member and their rank on the team, including photos of James and his broom. That was always Hari’s favorite part.
“Thank you so much Mr. Santa!” he smiled brightly, waddling over to the big green arm chair you had dedicated to your nightly reading sessions.
“Thank you, Mr. Santa.” you said softly, rubbing Hari’s hair lovingly as you kept the bit up. You watched as he opened the book and ran his fingers over the words so he could read it easier. You smiled softly, kissing his forehead with as much love as you could ever muster.
Santa Claus, or James, went through the fireplace just as quick as he appeared. His body went through in a green and misty fire, most likely apperating back to the bedroom to undress. You sat down next to Hari, the chair big enough for both of you to sit and read.
You barely noticed the rest of your family going around the house, Sirius and Barty guiding most of them to the kitchen for shots. Lily and Mary stayed behind though, both of them sitting next to you and helping you reenact the stories the book told.
Tumblr media
“Dada!” Hari said, his eyes focusing on James as soon as he walked down the stairs. “You just missed Santa Claus!”
“I did?” James asked dramatically, frowning deeply as he stepped forward into the living room. “It seems he left presents too.”
“Oh yes, tons of them.” you smiled. “He even let Hari open one early, isn’t that right Hari?”
“Yeah!” he said, holding up the book with your assistance. “Look dada, it’s you!”
James smiled brightly as he saw the book, though you could tell it was a smile of genuine shock. James had been distracting Hari while you shopped for and wrapped presents, which made unwrapping the presents all the more remarkable.
“That is me!” he said, kneeling down to rest his head on the armrest of the large reading chair. “Why don’t you read it to me, bub?”
“Okay!” Hari smiled, sitting up properly as his fingers traced the words once more. His voice came out neat and crisp, even if he did stumble over a couple of words sometimes.

Potter Children Headcanons
JAMES
James is Ginny with black hair. Her eyes, her nose , the only out of the three to get her extreme freckles. I imagine him to be mid height but Albus is taller.
Ginny is his best friend. Absolute mammas boy yes James is the rebel child but so is Ginny. They have the same humor have the same interest they are very close. He made her a mum and they will always have that bond.
James is also very protective of Lily and Albus. Yes he had very caring and present parents but they are busy people so James stepped in a lot as he got older to be there for the other two. James and teddy are incredibly close James was Tedds first brother and they spend a lot of time together once James graduates, they even lived together at a point.
ALBUS
Everything about Albus looks like Harry. But, Albus has a warmness in his face that came from his mama. He has Harry’s wider shoulders but Albus got Ron’s height. Something James will forever be jelous of.
Albus was closer to Ginny as a toddler because he was so shy but moving through adolescence he noticed how similar he is to his father. They are both people watchers, don’t like big crowds, crave the quiet. He always goes to Harry when he has questions or concerns. Don’t get me wrong they fight a lot and when they do it’s bad but Harry is his favorite parent and deep down he would never admit it Albus is Harry’s favorite child.
Albus’s family mate is Rose she does all the talking for him and they get along very well. Teddy has always looked out for Albus as well always making sure he had eaten dinner and including him in things with the other cousins.
LILY
Everyone says lily looks like Ginny at first but, Ginny and Harry both agree she looks more like her father. She has her mums fair skin, her brown eyes, and a light dusting of freckles not like James and Ginny have. But if you look closer she has Harry’s eye shape. His check bones, his nose, his jaw. Her eyebrows her lips that’s all from her dad. When she’s standing right next to Harry that really shines through how much she looks like her father. She is also crazy petite like Ginny very small in stature.
She’s the baby so obviously she gets away with everything. If James and Albus want something then they make Lily go ask for it. She’s close with Ginny because they enjoy doing stuff together like getting nails done going shopping talking about boys all the usual mother daughter things. But just like Ginny and Molly holy hell those two could row if they fight the whole neighborhood will know. But that’s where Harry comes in if Lily runs to her room crying after a fight with her mom Harry will be the one to comfort her till she falls asleep.
Lily wasn’t that close to the boys growing up especially not James because she was so much younger but when they all got older they started to bond more. She always admired Aunt Angelina Lily could always tell her things she could never tell her mom.

Dad!James Potter x Bsf!Reader ☼ 833 words | briefly a little suggestive
series masterlist ; main masterlist
When the boys get home, you’re in the kitchen finishing up some soup. You don’t want Henry to get sick with the changing weather and him starting school, so you’ve gone a bit overboard with the veggies. The front door slams shut, and you hear the low timbre of James’ voice followed by a high-pitched whine from Henry. No doubt, James is reminding him to take off his shoes. You can easily picture him crouching down, gently encouraging Henry to do it himself in that low, soothing voice of his.
“Mama!” Henry shrieks, and your heart tightens at the sound of it. Months ago, you and James had sat him down, letting him know he could call you “mama” if he wanted to. Ever since then, he’d stopped calling you “darling,” and hearing the new name still tugs at your heartstrings every time.
You set the ladle down, ready to bend down and scoop Henry up. But the moment you see him, you freeze, lips parting in surprise. Out of the corner of your eye, you catch James stepping into the kitchen, leaning against the counter, silently watching the scene unfold.
“Do you like them?” Henry bounces on his toes, his big brown doe eyes—made even larger by his glasses—blinking up at you. A lump forms in your throat as you take in the sight.
“I love them.” You gasp, bending down as Henry shuffles toward you, grinning and bobbing his head side to side, proudly showing off his new blue frames. You’re certain James told him not to touch the lenses, judging by how his little hands fidget at his sides, resisting the urge to reach up and adjust them.
You wrap your arms around him, scooping him up to get a better look.
“Do I look like a big boy? Daddy said I did.” As he asks, you’re hit with the realization of just how grown-up he looks. He’s no longer the baby James would frantically call you about when he was sick, or the mischievous toddler who loved yanking the scrunchie from your hair, giggling uncontrollably as you pretended you didn’t know who had stolen it.
“You do. You look just like daddy.” You murmur, eyes flickering over to James, who is watching you both with a soft look.
Henry squirms in your arms, “I need Mr. G!” He exclaims suddenly, and you let him down so he can run and get his stuffed rabbit that wore a pair of glasses. You figure so he can have dinner with the three of you.
You watch him run off before turning your gaze to James, “You didn’t tell me he was getting glasses.”
“We wanted to surprise you.” James says with a smile, pushing away from the counter to meet you. His hands gently cup your cheeks, tilting your face up to meet his gaze as your arms instinctively wrap around his waist.
“He’s so grown up, Jamie.” You sigh, your voice thick with emotion. James gives you a soft, knowing smile.
“I know,” he murmurs. “I nearly had a meltdown in the office the first time he put them on.”
The room falls quiet for a moment before James leans down, pressing a soft, tender kiss to your lips. It’s short-lived, though, as Henry suddenly cries out that he can’t find his bunny and needs help. James sighs against your lips, his forehead resting against yours for a beat longer before pulling away with a quiet chuckle.
“Look at that—he’s not all that grown up yet. He still needs us.” James says, a fond smile tugging at his lips. You smile softly in return, reluctantly letting him go so he can search for Mr. G.
“I love seeing him grow up, but I oddly miss the baby phase.” You sigh, and James nods in understanding.
“As hard as it was, the baby stage was my favorite. Probably because you were by my side the whole time.” James winks, then turns to head toward the stairs.
You watch him as he goes, his movements deliberate, but you catch his attention with a teasing edge to your voice. “Maybe we should have another one then.”
The words slip from your lips with a soft smile, and you can’t help but laugh when James almost stumbles on the steps, his foot catching awkwardly as he spins around, his breath hitching in his chest. His eyes lock on yours, wide and searching, as if he’s trying to gauge whether you’re serious.
“You’d better not be messing with me, darling.” He breathes out, his voice low and thick with desperation. After nearly a year of dating, and given that he’s known you for almost a decade, with you having embraced the role of Henry’s mum from the very start, he’s been waiting patiently to hear those words.
Your stomach twists in a way that sends heat coursing through you, and you offer him a slow, knowing smile. “I’m not,”you reply, your voice soft but certain.
