The Ash Na'vi tribe name is Mangkwan. Same as one mentioned in the Avatar: The Next Shadow comics (proving comics are indeed canon). Wiki has already merged the entries.

So the Ash Na'vi call themselves Ash People for the volcanic ash that destroyed their civilisation.

They resent Eywa and other Na'vi because they feel they were left to suffer alone. They are really ones that hate god for abandoning them. It makes sense when your god is real and it preaches we are all connected but when bad things happen you are all alone because Eywa doesn't interviene.

But then, of course, Eywa did interviene for Jake Sully. She helped Omatikaya against the invaders. The immune response still protects Halleluja Mountains. This must hurt even worse.

I could see how this would feel like such a injustice. Why Varang and Quaritch could ally themselves on this feeling of being wronged. Even if Quaritch was the one at fault and natural disasters aren't the same as alien invasion threatening the whole world.

And the other Na'vi preaching how they are all connected - where were they when Mangkwan needed them? All they do is send them their undesirables. Screw them too.

I can see why they would be interested in human tech and using it to fight the other Na'vi and not caring about laws of Eywa or the consequences for the word. I also see why RDA would love to use them for that. I expect it to go about as well as training Taliban did.

Man, I just watched a bunch of retrospectives on the Titan submersible and OceanGate, and now all I wish is that the CEO had not been on the sub that day. That man would have had one hell of a criminal negligence suit to deal with if he hadn't gotten turned into a paste.

It's so much worse than that he was just overconfident and miscalculated. The man decided he had to be an innovator, and he was fixated on the idea of using carbon fiber for his hull. No one else was using it! He'd be hailed as a maverick and a genius for bringing this material to the forefront of submersible technology! Never mind that carbon fiber had been very definitively shown to degrade after repeated exposure to high pressure. He had decided that it was his ticket to history and he wouldn't hear otherwise.

The entire industry told him that a carbon fiber hull wasn't safe. He himself knew it wasn't, because he'd had to replace the hull on his original prototype when it started breaking down, like everyone told him it would. Individuals and regulatory bodies reached out again and again laying out the danger and begging him not to do what he was doing, and he dismissed them all as old-fashioned and insular, trying to keep the submersible industry exclusive.

He didn't even do the industry-standard upkeep required for the materials he insisted on using, materials that, once again, had been definitively shown to degrade in deep environments. It is standard, when using carbon fiber in long-term applications, to autoclave it after a few uses to reseal some of the degradation. This fucker, born into wealth and charging $250K per passenger, couldn't stand to spend $20K to autoclave his carbon fiber death trap.

Beyond that, his marketing materials were deliberately misleading: he repeatedly pointed out that the submersible industry has an incredible safety record, pretty much zero deaths in the last 50 years. However, he was knowingly skipping all of the safety tests and best practices that had contributed to that record, meaning he benefited from that reputation without putting in any of the work required to uphold it.

Yeah, I really wish we could have seen him try to argue in court that he wasn't culpable.

Spooky Season is officially over folks. However, like the best horror films, there’s still time for one final scare. Alien: Romulus is coming to 4K, Blu-ray, and VHS (!) December 3rd, 2024. And to celebrate the release of our favorite Alien film in years, we were given the opportunity to chat with the film’s sound designer, himself, Lee Gilmore. With 1997's Titanic, James Cameron became the first director in Hollywood history to take a film across the $1 billion threshold at the worldwide box office. Now, that's only his third biggest movie -- both Avatar and its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water have surpassed it, earning $2.9 billion and $2.3 billion, respectively. Of course, the Avatar series isn't finished yet! There are three more films already in the works, due to be released next year, in 2029, and in 2031, all produced, written, and directed by Cameron. In fact, he's in the full-time Avatar business for now, with no other projects on his calendar. But that's a position he's happy to be in right now, because, as Cameron said he loves the Avatar universe, and he's thrilled to be able to keep making films within it.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is scheduled to open in theaters on December 19, 2025, and the first two Avatar films are currently streaming on Disney+ and available on DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K, and most digital platforms.

thankfully a recast happened right away, and claudia is gonna be played by delainey hayles in season 2  and we will see claudia's storyline end.

yeah it hurts but i'm sure the new actress is gonna do great too! i'm more sad for bailey, she was so excited :(
