"Look At The Irony": Prashant Kishor Party's Fact-Check As BJP Rumours Swirl

Social media is abuzz with a screenshot claiming that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed poll strategist and politician Prashant Kishor as their national spokesperson. Prashant Kishor's party, Jan Suraaj, has issued a statement saying that the so-called BJP letter is fake.

Prashant Kishor's party also hit out at the Congress, accusing its leader Jairam Ramesh of sharing the fake image. On its official X handle, Jan Suraaj shared a screenshot that they claimed proved that the document was shared by the senior Congress leader on WhatsApp.

"Look at the irony! Congress, Rahul Gandhi You all talk about fake news and claim to be the victims. Now see yourself how the head of Communications of Congress Party, Jairam Ramesh, apparently a senior leader, is personally circulating a fake document," the party said in the post.

The image shows a BJP letterhead claiming that party president JP Nadda has appointed Prashant Kishor as the party's national spokesperson. It was shared by several users on X and Facebook.

The image went viral after Mr Kishor predicted a victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP in an exclusive interview with NDTV on Tuesday.

Mr Kishor, who had worked with PM Modi and the BJP during the 2014 polls, said that the BJP's tally in this election may hover around its 2019 score of 303 or better than it. He also credited the ruling party with shifting the election discourse from merely crossing the half-way mark to winning 370 seats in the Lok Sabha.

"In the last three-four months, the discussion has centred around '370' and '400 paar'. Consider it a BJP strategy or Opposition's weakness, but the BJP has entirely shifted the goalpost from 272 to 370. This has benefitted the BJP. Now, no one is saying Modi ji will lose, they are saying they may not get 370 seats," said the poll strategist.

The Congress shot back with its general secretary Jairam Ramesh advising her to instead worry about the Enforcement Directorate and jail.

NEW DELHI: The rift in the Opposition was out in the open on Thursday after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha slammed the Congress saying it had been reduced to a big regional party, adding it should shed arrogance and face reality.

The Congress shot back with its general secretary Jairam Ramesh advising her to instead worry about the Enforcement Directorate and jail. “Kavitha should worry about ED and jail,” Ramesh told The New Indian Express, alluding to her consent to appear before the federal probe agency on Saturday for questioning in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam.

Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, however, urged Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary K C Venugopal to send party representatives to the protest she is scheduled to hold on Friday at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding the introduction of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the upcoming session of Parliament. While over 6,000 people are expected to participate, 18 political parties will join Friday’s protest.

Kavitha said the Congress should ‘understand the ground reality’ and join hands with strong regional parties to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “Congress is no longer a national party but just a big regional party. It should shed its arrogance,” she said. She, however, hailed former Congress president Sonia Gandhi for supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament in 2010. “Though it was a coalition government, Soniaji got the bill to the Rajya Sabha,” said Kavitha.

Reacting to Shah's reported remarks, Ramesh said, "If they do not have anything to hide, why are they running away from a Joint Parliamentary Committee (probe)."

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday alleged that the Centre was "running away" from a JPC probe into the Adani-Hindenburg issue and said such an investigation be allowed if the government has nothing to hide in the matter.

The Congress' attack on the government came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's reported remarks that there is nothing for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to hide or be afraid of in the matter.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said he has written to RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch for an impartial probe into the Adani issue.

Reacting to Shah's reported remarks, Ramesh said, "If they do not have anything to hide, why are they running away from a Joint Parliamentary Committee (probe)."

"They do not even allow us to raise the demand of the JPC in Parliament. When our leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge ji, raised the demand for JPC, their remarks were expunged," Ramesh said.

If there is nothing to hide, the government should allow a JPC, he stressed.

His remarks came a day after the Centre agreed to the Supreme Court's proposal to set up a panel of experts to look into strengthening the regulatory mechanisms for the stock market in the wake of the recent Adani group shares crash triggered by Hindenburg Research's fraud allegations.

Saying it has no objection to constituting the panel, the Centre, at the same time, stressed that market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and other statutory bodies are "fully equipped", not only regime wise, but otherwise also to deal with the situation.

Ramesh said it is important to look at the petition that had been filed in the court which he claimed was basically against Hindenburg research. Investigation should be against Adani and its ties with the government, Ramesh said.

Ramesh said he would, however, also make it clear that the Congress is in favour of private investments and they need to be encouraged.

"We have always said we are in favour of entrepreneurship and that is the way forward for economic development. We are against blind privatisation and selling of PSUs," he said.

The Congress is in favour of liberalisation, but this should be on the basis of rules and institutions which should function independently so that the rules can be applied in an impartial and transparent manner.

Our fight is against crony capitalism, he asserted.

"We will not be cowed down, we will keep raising our voice," he said. He also claimed that all Opposition parties are on the same page in demanding a JPC probe into the Adani issue.
