Sethurathnam Ravi on Merging Profit and Purpose in Investments
Sustainable investing has shifted from being a niche strategy to a driving force in reshaping the global financial landscape. Investors are no longer solely focused on profit but are also keen to align their financial objectives with broader social and environmental goals. This trend has gained significant momentum in India, with leading corporations like Tata Group and Infosys integrating their financial success with impactful initiatives.
Tumblr media
According to Sethurathnam Ravi, also known as S Ravi BSE Chairman, the new mantra for Indian businesses is “profit with purpose.” This approach underscores the importance of using capital not only to generate returns but also to address pressing societal challenges.
Sethurathnam Ravi on Corporate Social Responsibility and ESG Integration
Sethurathnam Ravi emphasizes the significance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in driving positive change. Companies like Tata Group are investing in areas such as education, healthcare, and rural development, while Infosys leads initiatives focused on digital literacy and environmental sustainability. Ravi notes that this holistic approach is essential for fostering inclusive growth while maintaining strong economic performance. By integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into their business strategies, companies can simultaneously promote positive social impact and financial returns.
S Ravi BSE on the Rise of Sustainable Investing
The transformation of sustainable investing into a mainstream strategy reflects the growing awareness of ESG factors in investment decisions. Over the past decade, as S Ravi BSE Chairman highlights, the investment landscape has seen an increase in sustainable practices driven by concerns over climate change, inequality, and corporate governance. Investors are now more inclined to use their capital to drive social and environmental progress, recognizing the long-term risks associated with unsustainable business models.
Impact Investing: Sethurathnam Ravi’s Insights on Merging Profit with Purpose
One of the most promising developments within the sustainable investing space is impact investing. This strategy prioritizes the generation of positive social and environmental outcomes alongside financial gains. Sethurathnam Ravi explains that impact investors focus on projects addressing global challenges such as renewable energy, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare. Not only do these investments benefit society, but they also deliver attractive returns, making them an appealing option for investors seeking to align profit with purpose.
S Ravi BSE on Shareholder Activism: Driving Corporate Change
Shareholder activism has emerged as a powerful tool for responsible investors to influence corporate practices. By leveraging their ownership, investors can push for increased transparency, accountability, and alignment with ESG principles. Sethurathnam Ravi highlights the growing influence of shareholder resolutions, particularly those addressing climate change and diversity. These initiatives are pushing companies to reevaluate their practices and engage more deeply with their stakeholders, creating a more sustainable corporate environment.
Corporate Sustainability Reporting: The New Standard for Investors
Corporate sustainability reporting, once a voluntary practice, is now becoming a standard requirement for companies seeking investor trust. Sethurathnam Ravi points out that investors are increasingly demanding comprehensive ESG disclosures to assess long-term sustainability. With frameworks like the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) gaining traction, companies are now expected to provide clear insights into their sustainability performance. This transparency helps investors make informed decisions based on long-term value creation.
Integrating ESG Criteria: Sethurathnam Ravi’s Holistic Investment Approach
Incorporating ESG criteria into investment decisions is essential for long-term value creation. S Ravi BSE Chairman advises that investors who consider environmental, social, and governance factors alongside traditional financial metrics can better assess a company’s overall performance. This comprehensive approach enables investors to identify strong ESG opportunities while avoiding businesses with heightened sustainability risks, ultimately leading to more resilient investment portfolios.
Building a Sustainable Future: Sethurathnam Ravi on Responsible Investing
As the trend toward sustainable investing continues to grow, integrating ESG factors into investment strategies is increasingly seen as vital for building a sustainable future. Sethurathnam Ravi underscores the potential of this trend to create a more equitable and environmentally responsible global economy. By aligning financial objectives with broader social and environmental goals, investors can drive positive change while achieving superior risk-adjusted returns over time.
Conclusion
The insights shared by Sethurathnam Ravi, or S Ravi BSE Chairman, highlight the growing importance of sustainable investing in today’s financial world. By merging profit with purpose, impact investing, and corporate responsibility, companies and investors alike are working towards building a more sustainable and prosperous future. As ESG considerations become an integral part of investment strategies, the potential for long-term positive change becomes more apparent, paving the way for a more equitable and environmentally-conscious global economy.

On Camera, Pakistani Woman's Shocking Behaviour After Deadly Accident
A video of a Pakistani woman smiling and appearing unremorseful after being involved in a car accident, killing two people, has sparked outrage on social media. On August 19, Natasha Danish, the wife of prominent businessman Danish Iqbal, was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser on Karsaz Road when she attempted to turn.
Tumblr media
The next moment, she rammed multiple vehicles, including motorcycles and a parked car, resulting in the deaths of a father and daughter on the spot. At least four others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of the victims is now on a ventilator, his family said, as per MM News.
However, Natasha’s behaviour after the accident, captured on videos that have since gone viral on social media, was even more shocking. Footage shared on X shows Natasha, surrounded by an angry mob, smiling and boasting about her family’s influence. “Tum mere baap ko nahi jantay (you don’t know who my father is),” she’s heard saying.
Someone stated, “Driving and killing poor and innocent father and daughter under the influence of drugs, the evil smile on her face says, hey common and poor Pakistani ‘You Know Who I Am’.”
Natasha Danish avoided court appearance after the fatal car accident, citing mental health concerns. Her advocate Amir Mansub claimed Natasha’s mental health was “not stable”, and that she was receiving treatment at Jinnah Hospital. However, hospital records contradicted this claim, showing Natasha was discharged as fit after medical evaluations. Doctors found no need for immediate psychiatric intervention, as per MM News.

Anger On Kolkata Streets, Cops Use Water Cannons, Tear Gas On Protesters
Chaotic scenes are being witnessed on the streets of Kolkata as police intercepted a protest march to state secretariat Nabanna over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in the city’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Riot police are using teargas shells and water cannons to stop the protesters from proceedings towards the state secretariat. Some of the protesters are throwing stones towards the cops.
Tumblr media
No permission was given for the protest march and the ruling Trinamool Congress yesterday alleged a conspiracy to create unrest throw violence during the rally. Kolkata Police virtually turned Nabanna into a fortress and as many as 6,000 police personnel were deployed to stop the protesters from advancing the secretariat from any route. Drones were also used to keep a watch on the protesters. Barricades have been welded into the ground and greased to prevent the protesters from scaling them.
This morning, a group of protesters gathered at College Square and marched towards Nabanna. They raised slogans demanding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation over the horrific rape and murder case. Several student organisations and citizen forums have joined the protest. Visuals showed the protesters shaking the barricades in their way.
While the ruling Trinamool alleges this is a BJP-backed protest, the organisers have said it is a march planned by student organisations. Many of the outfits part of today’s protest are not registered organisations. Most known student outfits, including those affiliated to political parties, have distanced themselves from the protest.
This morning, Leader of the Opposition in Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said four student activists part of the protest plan went missing after midnight.
“The following Student Activists who were distributing food to the volunteers, who were arriving at Howrah Station, suddenly went missing after midnight :- Subhojit Ghosh, Pulokesh Pandit, Goutam Senapati, Pritam Sarkar. Neither they can be traced nor are they answering their phones.
We apprehend that they may have been arrested/detained by the Mamata Police. If something happens to them Mamata Police will be held accountable,” Mr Adhikari said in a post on X.
Bengal police responded that the students were planning to orchestrate large-scale violence during today’s march “and were involved in a conspiracy of murder and attempted murder”. “They have been arrested in the Interest of public safety and security, and their families have been informed,” they said. Mr Adhikari then said that the families of the four students have approached the Calcutta High Court.
One of organisers, Shubankar Halder, has said he used to be an ABVP member at one point, but is not linked to the organisation anymore. He said this protest is an apolitical protest.
The Trinamool has said this march is an attempt to create chaos in the name of students’ protest. State minister Chandrima Bhattacharya told the media yesterday, “This is a BJP-ABVP plot to create disturbance. This is a plot to open fire by criminals in police uniform. Tomorrow there are exams. Can students do this? They are doing vulture politics.”
The Trinamool released two videos to stress that there is a plot to create unrest. In the videos, the authenticity of which NDTV has not verified, several men are heard saying, “we need bodies”. Trinamool leader Jayprakash Majumdar alleged, “The BJP leadership has been told that unless a Nandigram-type incident happens and there are dead bodies, the tide will not turn in BJP’s favour.”

This Firm's Workers Are Millionaires. But They Are Too Busy To Enjoy Wealth
It’s a summer day in Santa Clara, California, and an assortment of luxury cars — Porsches, Corvettes, Lamborghinis — take up parking spots previously occupied by humbler models. Some have new paint jobs in the lime green from Nvidia Corp.’s logo. And they are stuck where their owners want to be: at the office.
Tumblr media
Nvidia stock has gained 3,776% since the start of 2019 as the company benefits from selling the main chip necessary for artificial intelligence work, minting many new multimillionaires in the process. But the work hours are just as gruelling and high-stress, current and former employees said, leaving little time for the jet-setting, homebuying and leisure many can now afford. A culture problem is brewing, said the 10 people, who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution.
The 31-year-old chipmaker has piled on market cap faster than any other company in history. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang has established expectations of scrappiness and overworking, with a chaotic structure where one manager can have dozens of direct reports, the current and former employees said. Rather than firing employees like his competitors, Huang has said he prefers to “torture them into greatness.”
Nvidia hasn’t had any trouble keeping its employees in recent years, in part because its stock grants typically vest — or become available — over a four-year period, giving workers incentive to stay to earn their whole pay package. In 2023, 5.3% of employees left the company, but after its valuation topped $1 trillion, that same turnover rate dropped by nearly half, to 2.7%, according to its 2024 sustainability report. The overall semiconductor industry’s turnover rate is much higher, at 17.7%, according to Nvidia.
The tech industry trope of “resting and vesting” is so common it was ridiculed by Hollywood in HBO’s “Silicon Valley” show with a character who squanders away his time playing video games and drinking big sodas waiting for his stock to vest. But it doesn’t work at Nvidia. One current employee said it would be embarrassing and even socially difficult to coast.
Those who tried have become the subject of internal critique. During a staff meeting late last year employees complained to Huang that some of their colleagues were in “semiretirement” mode, according to a former employee who attended the meeting.
Those who have been at the company for close to a decade would have more than enough money to retire, according to a former engineering employee who left the company in June. Many don’t, though, because there are millions more waiting when the next stock grant vests, the person added.
The explosive stock rally also means that many Nvidia employees are sitting on bigger nest eggs than peers at other chipmakers. Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress, who joined the company 11 years ago, owns stock worth about $758.7 million. Her Intel Corp. counterpart Dave Zinsner, who has a larger pay package but has a shorter tenure, owns stock worth just $3.13 million. At Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Nvidia’s nearest rival, which has also seen rapid share growth, CFO Jean Hu, who joined in 2023, owns stock worth $6.43 million.
The former engineering employee who asked not to be named said that, throughout 2023 and 2024, working at Nvidia meant encountering frequent expressions of wealth among employees of virtually all seniority levels. He said he regularly saw coworkers surfing Zillow and alluding to new vacation homes in casual conversation. He added that it’s become common for employees to attend big-ticket sporting events like the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals.
But the ex-marketing employee warned that Huang’s flat corporate structure sometimes works differently than intended. She said that in her experience, because of the company’s structure, people are incentivized to fight for Huang’s attention rather than work together toward Nvidia’s long-term success. The same structure applies to those far below Huang — the former technical support employee said his supervisor had more than 100 people directly reporting to him. At a certain point, with a certain amount of money, the stress starts to lose its appeal.

"Nuts And Bolts Were Rusted": Why Chhatrapati Shivaji Statue Collapsed
An FIR has been registered against the contractor of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg which collapsed on Monday just eight months since it was inaugurated. The statue was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4 in 2023.  The FIR was filed against contractor Jaydeep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include collusion, fraud, and endangering public safety. The FIR follows a complaint by the Public Works Department (PWD), which claims the statue’s construction was of poor quality, and the nuts and bolts used in the structure were found to be rusted.
Tumblr media
Local citizens and tourists had previously expressed their concerns about the statue’s deteriorating condition. Despite these warnings, including an alert from the assistant engineer of the Malvan division of the PWD on August 20, no preventive action was taken. The PWD stated that the rusting nuts and bolts posed a risk to the statue’s stability, yet the warnings were ignored.
“The steel used in making of the statue had started rusting. The PWD had already written to Navy officials informing them about the statue catching rust and requested them to take appropriate steps,” said Sindhudurg guardian minister Ravindra Chavan said.
The work on the statue began on September 8, with the Indian Navy, which has no expertise in statue construction, being tasked with erecting the statue and its pedestal. The statue was unveiled on Navy Day on December 4, at Rajkot Fort, with Prime Minister Modi presiding over the event.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde acknowledged the incident and attributed the collapse to strong winds, claiming they were blowing at a speed of 45 km per hour at the time. However, the Opposition has criticised the government, accusing it of negligence.

"Perfect Hiding Place": Australian Scientist Claims He's Found Where Missing MH370 Plane Is
Years after its disappearance, an Australian scientist has claimed that he has found the “perfect hiding place” for the missing MH370 plane. The Malaysian Airlines flight, with 239 people on board, vanished from radar after taking off from Kuala Lumpur in 2014. Its disappearance sparked the biggest search in aviation history with the whereabouts of the jet still unknown to this day. Now, Tasmanian researcher Vincent Lyne has said that he believes he has figured out where the plane is. In a LinkedIn post, Mr Lyne claimed that the plane was deliberately ploughed deep into the Broken Ridge — a 20,000-foot-deep hole in the Indian Ocean.
Tumblr media
“This work changes the narrative of MH370’s disappearance from one of no-blame, fuel-starvation at the 7th arc, high-speed dive, to a mastermind pilot almost executing an incredible perfect-disappearance in the Southern Indian Ocean,” the researcher wrote.
“In fact, it would have worked were it not for MH370 ploughing its right wing through a wave, and the discovery of the regular interrogation satellite communications by Inmarsat — a brilliant discovery also announced in the Journal of Navigation,” he added.
Mr Lyne, who works at the University of Tasmania’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, further said that damage to the plane’s wings, flaps and flaperon suggest it was involved in a “controlled ditching” similar to that of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger on the Hudson River in 2009.
“This justifies beyond doubt the original claim, based on brilliant, skilled, and very careful debris-damage analyses, by decorated ex-Chief Canadian Air-crash Investigator Larry Vance, that MH370 had fuel and running engines when it underwent a masterful ‘controlled ditching’ and not a high-speed fuel-starved crash,” Mr Lyne wrote.
The researcher stated that MH370 is “where the longitude of Penang airport (the runway no less) intersects the Pilot-in-Command home simulator track discovered and discarded by the FBI and officials as ‘irrelevant.’”
“That pre-meditated iconic location harbors a very deep 6000m hole at the eastern end of the Broken Ridge within a very rugged and dangerous ocean environment renowned for its wild fisheries and new deep-water species. With narrow steep sides, surrounded by massive ridges and other deep holes, it is filled with fine sediments — a perfect ‘hiding’ place,” Mr Lyne continued, adding the area needs to be verified as a “high priority.”
“Whether it will be searched or not is up to officials and search companies, but as far as science is concerned, we know why the previous searches failed and likewise science unmistakably points to where MH370 lies. In short, the MH370 mystery has been comprehensively solved in science!” he added.
Notably, flight MH370 with 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board disappeared after leaving Kuala Lumpur Airport in southern Malaysia en route to Beijing, China, on March 8, 2014. A nearly three-year search covering 120,000 square kilometres in the Indian Ocean found hardly any trace of the plane, with only some pieces of debris picked up. Despite the largest search in aviation history, the plane has never been found and the operation was suspended in January 2017.

S Ravi BSE Chairman: How Sustainable Investing is Driving Change in India
Sustainable investing has rapidly evolved from a niche strategy to a powerful force transforming the financial landscape. Investors are increasingly focused on utilizing their capital to drive meaningful change, aligning profit with purpose. In India, this approach has gained traction, with companies like Tata Group and Infosys integrating financial success with positive social and environmental impact.
Tumblr media
According to Sethurathnam Ravi, also known as S Ravi BSE Chairman, profit with purpose is becoming the new mantra for Indian businesses. Companies like Tata Group are channelling investments into education, healthcare, and rural development, while Infosys promotes digital literacy and environmental sustainability through its CSR initiatives. These examples illustrate how businesses can foster inclusive growth and address pressing social challenges while maintaining robust economic performance.
Sustainable investing’s transformation into a mainstream strategy reflects growing awareness of the critical role that environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors play in investment decisions. As S Ravi BSE Chairman points out, the past decade has seen a surge in sustainable investing, driven by concerns about climate change, social inequality, and corporate governance. Investors are now actively seeking opportunities to use their capital to drive positive change, recognizing the risks associated with unsustainable business models.
Impact Investing: Merging Profit with Purpose
Within the sustainable investing sphere, impact investing has emerged as a prominent strategy. This approach prioritizes generating positive social and environmental outcomes alongside financial returns. Sethurathnam Ravi emphasizes that impact investors are deploying capital in projects and companies that address global challenges like renewable energy, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare. This strategy not only benefits society but also offers attractive investment returns, making it a popular choice for those seeking to merge profit with purpose.
Shareholder Activism: A Catalyst for Corporate Change
Shareholder activism has become a powerful tool for responsible investors to advocate for positive transformations within corporations. By leveraging their ownership stakes, investors can pressure companies to embrace greater transparency, accountability, and alignment with ESG principles. S Ravi BSE Chairman notes that shareholder resolutions addressing issues like climate change and diversity have gained significant traction, driving companies to re-evaluate their practices and engage more meaningfully with stakeholders.
Corporate Sustainability Reporting: A New Standard
Corporate sustainability reporting (CSR), once a voluntary practice, is now a mainstream requirement for companies seeking to establish trust with investors. Sethurathnam Ravi highlights that investors increasingly demand comprehensive ESG disclosures to assess a company’s long-term sustainability. Initiatives like the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) are pushing for harmonized reporting standards, enabling better-informed investment decisions.
Integrating ESG Criteria: A Holistic Investment Approach
For investors aiming to manage risk and capture long-term value, integrating ESG criteria into investment decisions is essential. S Ravi BSE Chairman advises that considering environmental, social, and governance factors alongside traditional financial metrics provides a more comprehensive understanding of a company’s performance and prospects. This approach helps investors identify strong ESG opportunities while avoiding those with elevated sustainability risks, ultimately enhancing portfolio resilience and long-term returns.
Building a Sustainable Future through Responsible Investing
As sustainable investing gains momentum, the integration of ESG considerations into investment strategies is increasingly seen as crucial. Sethurathnam Ravi underscores the unique opportunity this trend presents to create a more sustainable and equitable future. By aligning financial objectives with broader social and environmental goals, investors can drive positive change and achieve superior risk-adjusted returns over the long term.

Cyclone Remal Leaves Trail Of Destruction In Bengal, 2 Dead In Bangladesh
Severe cyclonic storm Remal made landfall between the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, unleashing winds up to 135 kmph. The storm, which struck between Sagar Island and Khepupara near the southwest of Mongla in Bangladesh at 8:30 pm on Sunday, brought torrential rains, flooding homes and farmlands, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
Tumblr media
Two people were killed in Bangladesh since the cyclone made landfall last night, said an official from the country's disaster ministry. West Bengal has reported no casualty so far.
Ahead of the storm, disaster management authorities and security forces across Bengal and northeastern states were placed on high alert. District administrations in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram were instructed to take precautionary measures to mitigate the impact.
Cyclone Remal disrupted air, rail, and road transportation in Kolkata and southern Bengal. The Eastern and South Eastern Railways cancelled several trains, and the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata suspended flight operations for 21 hours, affecting 394 flights. The airport resumed operations at 9 am today. The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata also halted operations.
In the city's Bibir Bagan area, a wall collapsed due to heavy rain injuring one person. Reports from North and South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts indicated extensive damage to thatched roofs, electric poles, and trees. Low-lying areas near Kolkata experienced severe flooding.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) issued warnings of extremely heavy rainfall across Assam and other northeastern states on May 27 and 28. Orange and Red alerts were issued for various districts, anticipating severe weather conditions. Squally winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, were expected over south Assam and Meghalaya.

Shah Rukh Khan Offered "Blank Cheque" To Gautam Gambhir, In BCCI's Radar, To Be At KKR For…
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to several reports, is interested in Gautam Gambhir taking over the role of Indian cricket team coach. Amid lack of alternatives, because of certain overseas coaches' withdrawal, the BCCI don't seem to have many top options when it comes to finding Rahul Dravid's successor as Team India's head coach. A report has now claimed that Gambhir, who is the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 at present, was offered a 'blank cheque' by the franchise's co-owner Shah Rukh Khan to join the franchise for the next 10 years, when he was at Lucknow Super Giants.
Tumblr media
A report in Dainik Jagran has suggested that Gambhir is also interested in the India head coach job. But, wants a guarantee over his 100% selection if he fills out the application for the role. If the BCCI is only looking at Gambhir as one of the 'candidates', he isn't going to apply.
As the BCCI looks to intensify its effort of giving a contract to Gambhir, the report revealed the KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan intent of keeping the former India opener at the franchise for a long time. The Bollywood actor is said to have made a 'blank cheque' offer to Gambhir to join the IPL franchise for the next 10 years.
The BCCI has already faced rejections by the likes of Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer and Stephen Fleming over potentially succeeding Rahul Dravid as India's head coach. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, however, denied making an offer to any former Australian cricketer.
In fact, Shah suggested that the board wants the sort of person at the helm who understands India's domestic cricket structure.
"Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer," Shah said in a statement. "The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect."
"Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks," Shah had said.
Gambhir might be interested in becoming India's next head coach but what conversation he has with SRK over leaving KKR might be a big deciding factor.

2 Doctors Arrested For Manipulating Blood Report Of Porsche Teen
In the latest twist in the Pune Porsche horror, two doctors have been arrested for allegedly manipulating the blood test report of the 17-year-old, whose late night drunk drive left two 24-year-old software engineers dead, sources have said.
Tumblr media
Dr Ajay Tawre and Dr Shri Hari Harnor of Sasoon Hospital have been arrested by the Pune Crime Branch, which is investigating the case that has sparked nationwide outrage. Dr Tawre is head of the forensic lab at the state-run hospital in Pune.
Earlier, reports had claimed that the Pune teen, who is now at an observation home, had tested negative for alcohol. However, CCTV footage from one of the bars he visited that night showed him drinking with friends.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar earlier said, "This case is not about an accident in which a mistake happened under the influence of alcohol and people died. Our case is that he had full knowledge that his conduct… he parties in two bars, rashly drives a car without a number plate on a narrow, congested street. He was fully in his senses, and he knew that people may die because of his actions."
The teen belongs to a prominent realtor's family and it is alleged that his father and grandfather tried to influence the legal process to shield him. The teen's father has been arrested under charges of the Juvenile Justice Act. His grandfather has also been arrested after the family's driver alleged that he was confined at the family's home, threatened and asked to take the blame for the accident. The other arrests in the case include staff of the two bars the teen visited that night. The doctors' arrest and allegations of manipulation of blood samples further strengthens the charge that the family blatantly used money and influence to protect the teen.
Two engineers -- Ashwini Kostha and Anish Awadhiya -- were on the bike when the Porsche hit their bike from behind. They died on the spot. The boy was granted bail within 15 hours of the accident on conditions seen as flimsy. He was asked to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, told to work with traffic cops for 15 days and seek counselling for his drinking habit.
Amid nationwide outrage, the Juvenile Justice Board later modified the order and sent him to the observation home. The police have urged the board for permission to try the teen accused -- aged 17 years and eight months -- as an adult. The matter is currently being examined. The families of the two engineers have said this is "murder, not accident" and sought stringent punishment for the accused.
