Make It So Friday
Dax is one of the best characters in Star Trek. (I could say, I think, but, I’m not gonna, the I think is baked in since I’m writing this blurb). There’s something about an immortal being who is also not immortal, who dies and yet still lives. And, there’s something about the combination of newness of the host and oldness of the symbionts that is just, really cool to think about.
This is technically a book of short stories by some awesome authors like, Michael Jan Friedman, S.D, Perry, Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens, and more. They each take on a story about one of the 9 Dax symbionts, from Lela, to Torias, to Jadzia and Ezri too. My favorites were the one by Susan Wright, "Infinity" about Tobias, and of course, the one about my favorite Dax, Jadzia, “Reflections” by L.A. Graf.
But, honestly, the coolest part of this wasn’t just that we got to learn about all the Dax hosts, but, that so many of the Dax hosts also knew other big characters in the Star Trek universe, like Dr. McCoy and others. Fun.
You may like this book If you Liked: The Last Best Hope by Una McCormack, The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard by David A. Goodman, or Star Trek by John Byrne
The Lives of Dax by Marco Palmieri, Ed.

Okay normally I don't post photos of myself but I am still in shock and awe over what happened the 29th.
Look
That's me as Catcher. And who's that next to me? Oh you know, The Terry Farrell aka Jadzia Dax from DS9. And let me tell you, nicest most amazing person to talk too. Knew I was cosplaying the Catcher loved my sign (I had actors sign the back as my "references") I got to show her my CCBB collection and infodump to her and she was super excited about it. Literally so awesome I will be thinking about it for years to come.
#Same with when I met Anthony Micheal Hall that same day#That one is a bit more personal so won't be going up here but holy shit also an amazing experience.#If you ever go to a con and see one of your favorite actors. go up to them#you will not regret it#(aight uhh here comes the shit ton of tags)#Terrificon#comic con#Chitty Chitty Bang Bang#Child Catcher#DS9#Jadzia Dax#Terry Farrell#cosplay#that should cover all of it#:)

DS9 S3 E1 - The Search Part 1
I was admittedly underwhelmed by this episode. Don't get me wrong there were several awesome moments that I'll dive into in a minute but over all it wasn't that interesting to me.
The big battle stuff was part of why it was sorta blah, though I am intrigued to see what actually happened to the Defiant since we left it almost in pieces. It was just too early in the season for there to be real tension so it felt like big booms for the sake of big booms.
Odo is the other reason. He was insufferable in this episode. I've said time and time again that while I may like him more than I did at the start (he even kinda won me over after the "We're hologram people" episode) I'm still on the fence with him. In this episode, though, he took like 30 giant steps back. He was whiny and childish. He didn't give Sisko a chance to explain the situation he just decided he was going to resign. When approached by Kira with a job opportunity to get him to come along, he threw it in her face. He flat out ignored Sisko on multiple occasions. And then at the end of the episode he just dismissed everything Kira said and kidnapped her to run off on their own. That last bit I'm both thankful for cause he saved her but also pissed at cause she was right, they should have gone to the wormhole.
I have strong feelings for that man and all of them are seething disappointment and mild hatred at this moment. He was so insufferable, the ending fell so flat.
Sisko showing up with the Defiant was badass, though. It was the spark of hope the crew needed. And his "it's home now" talk with Jake was sweet. The fact that Jake knows his dad well enough to even point to the moments when things shifted was a nice touch.
I like that the Federation is doing more things with the Romulans, given how touchy the relationship was with them in TNG. I hope TRul sticks around for at least a little while. It was interesting to see her struggle with trusting the folks on board and relenting at times. On that same note, the make up design for Romulans is a little different here (or feels different to me at least) and she looked a bit like a Buffy vamp and I was kinda digging it. I also like that her costume isn't super heavy on the shoulder pads lol
My favorite part of the episode might be a bit of a shitty one, but I like that Sisko left Jadzia and Miles behind. I'm very much a no man left behind kind of person but of the Captains/Commanders I am most familiar with, he is the only one I can see given that order and it was a very interesting one.
5/10 - I blame Odo

hiiiiiiii 🥹🫂👕 asks of three for the game !
HELLO HIIIII HELLO
🥹 Favourite behind the scenes picture
easily this one. partly bc of that one post abt them being sea creatures in an aquarium waiting to get fed but it also stands up on its own. why are they clasping hands like they just got engaged
🫂 Character you'd like to be friends with
SO FUCKING MANY NGL. i'd like to be friends with the doctor from voy bc he's interested in xenoentomology and GOD i would love to know more abt that. i'd love to be friends with janeway too just bc i think being her friend would fix all of my problems instantly. being friends with either jadzia or ezri dax would be so fun and awesome. i would love to be friends with kira too........... and anyone from lower decks or prodigy.......... also reg barclay bc i can relate to him a lot sometimes. aside from when he was weird and creepy abt the women on the ship in tng but barclay as he's portrayed in voy is so fucking real i love the guy. honestly if i could i'd wanna be friends with basically everyone ngl lol
👕 Character whose fashion you like.
in terms of OBJECTIVELY the best fashion. i think captain angel from snw dresses so fucking cool
like they are so damn cool. idk what else to say
in terms of the fashion that i personally like the best though...... even though some ppl might disagree............
QUARK. he is fucking killing it. if i could dress like this i absolutely would. i love the maximalism and bright colours and clashing patterns of his outfits, just emphasising how much he values luxury and excess as a ferengi. ik capitalism sucks but he unironically looks so damn cool i'm sorry

5, 7, 16 for the fandom ask 🤠
5. something you see in fics a lot and love
I don't have anything specific to say. I just love the nature of the beast - reading people's interpretations of characters and their decisions and such. Often they're trite and stupid, but sometimes...Ohhhh boy. Sometimes I get to read something beautiful and insightful and mind-blowing
7. your favorite tropes to read/write/draw
Genre-bending. All the time, I say, "Girl, you're not in a fucking horror story. This is a sitcom," and similar statements. I also like writing stories about characters doing drugs, because drugs are awesome, and popular media is way too square. I also like makin my favs Jewish, because I can.
16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate
In Supernatural: all of Cas's honey phase. It was fascinating, but so few want to admit it. He hung out with bees. He was a pacifist. It was bizarre, and I love it when things are bizarre. In DS9: Everything about Jadzia, as well as Dax lore and Trill lore. In Ted Lasso: I don't think most people get Roy as a character. Everyone, please pay attention to all of the little details when it comes to him, and maybe you will understand...These are all big details, lol. Oops.
✨ love your fandom asks ✨

DS9 prompts under the cut from DS9agogo’s 2010 Station Log Ficathon on LJ
>>
GEN
- Ezri Dax, prompt: sliding across a bridge of sighs
- Kira Nerys and Mora Pol: After Odo has returned to the Great Link
- Jadzia Dax, where the sky is the limit
- Quark and or Odo: not as adversarial as it may at first appear
- Kira Nerys, Julian Bashir, in the line of fire
- Nog and Jake Sisko, friends will be friends
- Three generations of Siskos. If you can work in Benjamin's sister and her family, as well as Benjamin and Kasidy's child, so much the better :D
- The reconstruction of Bajor after the Occupation and/or the reconstruction of Cardassia after the Dominion War.
- After curing a plague on Bajor, Julian is proclaimed by most Bajorans to be 'sent by the Prophets'. Then Julian has visions much like Sisko and he starts to question his sanity. Kira and Sisko play a big part, anyone else is up to you. You can pair him with whoever or no pairing at all.
- "Where's Garak?" : Insert Garak into an episode or a scene where he doesn't appear, but should have
- Dear diary, Judy Blume style.
- Kai Winn's brush with atheism.
- Keiko's experiences adjusting to the station. Make her likeable!
- Remember the "puppy" from episode 1x17: The forsaken? Considering that the whole computer system was fried at least once, whatever happened to the puppy?
- Miles O'Brien, Keiko O'Brien, and Kira Nerys. (Slashes optional.) Experiments in marriage, partnership, and parenting: sometimes painful, sometimes joyful, always difficult.
- Kai Opaka and Vedek Winn. "One must never look into the eyes of one's own gods."
- Five things Tora Ziyal didn't live to do, and one she managed just in time.
- Sisko, Jake and a cooking lesson. I'd love to see fic that highlights that awesome father-son dynamic they have, whether it turns out comical or poignant or serious or whatever. HET - Sisko/Jadzia Dax. Things happen between them. Sisko is freaked. Dax is... not so much.
- Odo/Kira, if we'd had a moment to ourselves/We'd be unstoppable
- Odo/Kira Reuniting after Odo fulfills his obligations to the Great Link/heals the founders. Bittersweet or happily ever after, whatever feels right.
- Odo/Kira. Quark POV that gives away how genuinely fond he is of both of them, and of course how happy for them if it's after they get their shit together.
- Jake/Ziyal - Will you marry me?
- O'Brien/Station Computer - "Computer... you and I need to have a little talk." (Mod put this in het because the computer has a female voice.)
- Worf/Jadzia, lighten up and you might just learn a thing or two
- Worf/Jadzia a new skill, preferably something Dax has never encountered before but has to do with Klingons. This is in exchange for Jadzia teaching him something particularly Klingon. SLASH - Weyoun/Dukat either non-con or semi-con. I rather like the idea or Dukat or Damar getting punished by Weyoun.
- Garak/Dukat Anything absolutely smutty would be amazing. No fluff or cute stuff.
- Odo/Quark I can't help myself
- Julian Bashir/Miles O'Brien; prompt: boys and their toys (can be either gen or slash)
- Garak/Bashir. An AU where Bashir is kicked out of Starfleet because of his genetic enhancements, but he is able to find a way to stay on Bajor/on the station, and this sets Garak and Bashir's relationship on a different course than in canon.
- Garak/Bashir. An AU where Bashir is kicked out of the Federation because of his genetic enhancements, and becomes an exile too.
- Garak/Bashir. An AU where they’re all on a starship and Cardassia is a new-ish member of the Federation. Garak is one of the first Cardassians to serve in Starfleet.
- Garak/Bashir. An AU where Bashir and Garak meet when they’re younger, that has a happy ending, please!
- Garak/Bashir, ensemble cast, any other pairings. A complete fantasy/magic/medieval AU. Instead of planets, Cardassia/Earth/Bajor/etc are countries, etc.
- Garak/Bashir, ensemble cast, any other pairings. An AU in which Cardassia didn’t just take over Bajor, but the entire Federation. The characters are all part of ~the resistance~, and Garak has trouble figuring out where his loyalties are. Happy (or at least bittersweet!) ending, please- no Garak betraying them all, etc.
- Garak/Bashir. Post series. Garak and Bashir are somehow reunited, but not using the trope of Bashir going to Cardassia to help with the recovery.
- Garak/Bashir. Post series. Garak and Bashir keep in contact throughout the years, while Garak helps rebuild Cardassia and Bashir is still working in Starfleet. Of course, eventually they meet again, though!
- Garak/Bashir, ensemble cast, any other pairings. Post-series. All the main "characters" are having a "reunion", but no one actually thought that Garak would show up- including Julian Bashir, who hasn't seen Garak in years.
- Garak/Bashir, ensemble cast, any other pairings. A disaster occures in the Federation and the characters are all drawn back together.
- Garak/Bashir. Garak knew about Bashir’s genetic enhancements before everyone else… but not because he “figured it out”. For some reason Bashir told him, or when they were in trouble/danger it came out.
- Garak/Bashir. Something with Bashir actually using his genetic enhancements and saving the day/etc.
- Garak/Bashir. Bashir rescues Garak. Featuring Bashir being generally awesome.
- Garak/Bashir. Somehow Bashir unexpectedly ends up with a baby/kid, courtesy of an old girlfriend, and of course he has absolutely no clue what to do. But to the surprise of everyone, Garak is surprisingly useful and enthusiastic- children are very important to Cardassians, after all. Even more surprising is the route their relationship takes as taking care of the he kid brings them closer.
- Garak/Bashir. As a reverse of the norm, Bashir muses on Garak's beauty/attractiveness.
- Garak/Bashir. Bashir knows that Garak likes to get off the station, but rarely gets to, so he invites Garak along on his vacation, not knowing that this vacation will change everything between them.
- Sisko/Bashir, something that deals with how impossibly young Julian seems at the beginning of the series and how much he changes over time.
- Sisko/Bashir - they shared an unpleasant time during the days leading up to the Bell Riots. Maybe it brings them closer once they're finally back to their own time?
- Sisko/Bashir. Kasidy ends things with Benjamin, because she's figured out that he's in love with someone else. Ironically, Benjamin hasn't worked this out for himself yet.
- Jake/Bashir during "Fascination" (Season 3). When Lwaxana's aboard the station, inadvertently messing with people's heads, it's not Kira that Jake fixates on.
- Jake/Bashir - Jake Sisko's got his heart set on Julian. Julian doesn't quite know what to do with that.
- Jake/Bashir, Sisko finds out (on purpose or otherwise).
- Dukat/Garak. They get into a fight after Garak catches Dukat in his quarters. When fighting, they begin to have rough, passionate anal and oral sex while spewing insults at each other. Dukat walks out grinning with the taste of Garak still in his mouth.
- Dukat/Sisko. Alternate scenario in which some hot-lovin' happens in the cave they're stranded in during "Waltz." THREESOMES/MULTIPLE PAIRINGS - Something canon compliant Bashir/Ezri/Garak as an actual threesome.
- Garak/Bashir, Kira/Odo. Garak, Bashir, Odo, and Kira all have to work together to Save The Day. I will have your babies if both couples get together during the story- developing relationships ftw.
- Garak/Bashir/O’Brien. Post series. Bashir and O’Brien are in a relationship, but Bashir has kept in contact/comes back into contact with Garak, and something happens to cause him to realize that he loves Garak too.
- Garak/OFC, Garak/Bashir. To rebuild & repopulate Cardassia, Garak gets married. Bashir realizes that he's lost his chance. Bashir visits Cardassia over the years, and is like, "Uncle Julian" to the kids. But Garak and Bashir do get together in the end!
- Garak/Bashir/Mirror!Garak. Garak is on Cardassia (for any reason). Feeling horny, Bashir decides to travel to the AU to try to seduce AU!Garak. When Garak returns from Cardassia early to find Bashir gone without explanation, he knows exactly where he's gone. Garak goes to the AU in a fit of jealously but ends up joining in on the fun.

DS9 4x04 Indiscretion thoughts (I'm re-watching, so beware spoilers for future episodes!)
(24/06/2023)
"You are going to go looking for that ship, and all I can say is good luck." Odo is a good friend, and understands Kira just so well.
"Well, why don't you stay here? I'm sure that Benjamin could arrange for some quarters." Ben's look at Dax's interference XD
....And of course, it's Dukat
Kira's carefully schooled expression ❤️ I love how professional you are (but also I'm looking forward to you unleashing your anger on him)
"I've found that when one is trying to do a difficult job, personal reasons can be quite an incentive." I'm sure you do, Dukat...
Kira's incredulous expression when he says "I believe that in some ways the occupation actually helped Bajor." 😡😡😡 Yeah fuck you Dukat?
Ugh, of course he's bringing up a topic he knows she'll argue with him about 🤮 why does he have to flirt with her? I hate this
The fact that, in this specific context of Nerys asking to meditate in silence on a shuttle journey, Dukat is better at shutting up than Julian ... ???😅😅
Oh Sisko, Kasidy's right, you weren't exactly thrilled at the idea...
I love how Julian's in on this conversation XD this feels definitely like something Sisko grudgingly accepted he'd have to discuss with Jadzia, and for whatever reason she brought Julian along too (maybe he complains, in the way he does, that this is a conversation he'd need to have man-to-man, so she says "I understand! I'll think Julian's off-shift soon!" while Sisko groans)
I love how they're both teasing him by talking as though he isn't there, this is such a fun conversation - Jadzia isn't a surprise, but we've never seen Julian this casual with Sisko.
Quark just butting in - "Who knows more about women than me?" - and Julian's deadpan "Everyone." XD
"I got them from Bajoran intelligence before we left." ...Dukat's impressed smile and "Very good, Major" as she walks away - I hate that he likes her (conflicting with my belief that everyone should think she's awesome)
I'd forgotten about Dukat getting something stuck in his ass... Such a strange scene...
"You're hoping that she's still alive and you can rescue her." "Not quite. You see, if my daughter is still alive, I'll have no choice but to kill her." And you still don't see how you're the bad guy, Skrain?
"She's your daughter. And there is nothing more important to Cardassians than family. At least that's what your people are always saying." Yiss, let him have it, Kira
"And when I bury Ziyal, I'll weep over her grave just as I wept over her mother's." Jeeeesus, Dukat! And the fact he's so convinced he's right!
"If things don't work out, you're going to feel responsible, and that's scary." I love how well Jake knows his father.
"You figured out all this by yourself?" "Actually, I talked with Nog about it." HAH. Oh Jake, never change. Incredible.
I always thought the Breen would be more significant villains at some point.
This kid has suffered way too much, and I'm so uncomfortable seeing her just hug and forgive Dukat, she deserves so much better
" I wanted to tell you how happy I was for you, for us. But it didn't come out that way. I was uncomfortable, and a little nervous." "A little nervous?" "All right, a lot nervous." XD
"Do you think I'd give up a great opportunity just because you got cold feet? You're a good man, Benjamin Sisko, but you've got a lot to learn about women. Especially this one." I love Kasidy Yates. Ben might be a good man, but she is a fantastic woman.

For the ship ask: Data/Geordi, Dax/Worf, and Quark/Odo?
Thanks so much for the ask! Sorry it took so long...
[Here's the post with the questions]
Okay, so, let's do these in order. I'll put it under a cut I think, it's not excessively long but still
Daforge
1: They're amazing. One of the best Star Trek ships of all time and for sure the most wholesome one. They see each other in ways nobody else can - figuratively and literally! Amazing stuff happening here
2:
3: I really like this one but other than that I don't really have any concrete ones.
Dax/Worf
1: Well, here's the awkward thing: I've mentioned this before on this blog but I don't watch linearly and even if I did, I'd be nowhere near their relationship yet. So I haven't actually seen them interact much yet so while I might ship it in the future, I don't do so now. Regardless, I'll try to make educated guesses.
2: "Area man in awe of his awesome wife"
3: Hmmm I know Klingon women toss stuff at their romantic interests. I think Jadzia, knowing this, would occasionally yeet stuff at Worf, too.
Quodo
1: Fucking hell, these two. They were the first Trek pairing I got obsessed with. And like... they're so obsessed with each other. It's amazing! Also, both of them suck. Ten out of ten
2: Heh. I'm about to toss y'all back a decade. Disgusting by Miranda Cosgrove
3: I have a couple, though many have to do with how they do the do (in case you couldn't guess from my url lol) and most of the others are variable/incompatible in that there's different versions of their relationship that I like. But my favourite of those is them having been married since Terok Nor era and not even keeping it secret but most people still don't realise. I've previously briefly talked about it here.
And because this took so long, I'm tagging you to make sure you see it @tea-earl-grey

🛳 🤔🍄?
Thanks for the ask, friend! 💜 I hope your New Year has been awesome so far! And thanks for all the awesome Jeff posting that you do!
🛳 Are there any new ships you want to write for? (Platonic, romantic, or anything in between.)
I would love to try my hand at some Spirk nonsense...or perhaps some Kira/Jadzia... It really depends on how confident I end up feeling about my writing skills when I make the attempt. 😅
🤔 Are there any new characters you want to write about?
I’d love to give Spock a try (maybe conquer that fear of not being worthy of writing him). Also more Jeff characters, because Jombs brainrot 🥂
🍄 Are there any fandoms you've never written for but want to try?
Oh, many. Off the top of my head, I’d like to try out “Dead Man Walking” (I REALLY NEED TO READ YOUR Chaz/Luger FIC TOO, OMFG I’M SO BEHIND), maybe some “Stargate,” and perhaps some “Arena (1989).

HELLO! I am here to talk about Star Trek!
I am sorry my Star Trek spam has made you consider it. Very sorry. It's a rabbit hole. But might I suggest starting with either The Next Generation (TNG)? Or the 2009 movie (09) if you would like to see the classic characters? The Orignal Series (TOS) can be a little...weird at times. I.E. Kirk literally being ridden like a horse while under mind control. Yeah, it's weird.
TNG is very...well...political in a sense. The characters, although tame at times, can be very lovable. Data is my personal favorite. Picard is a great captain. And you will also see Number One (Riker) perform the 'Riker.' Very funny and the longer you watch, the more you will spot it. TNG has a lot of heart. You really get to know the characters and learn what they will and won't do according to their morals and values.
I would say most Star Trek series are very character-driven. I know Deep Space Nine (DS9) is. I wouldn't recommend starting there though because some characters cross over and it's better to see them in TNG first. But it's my favorite. Plus, I mean...*in a way* Jadzia is trans. And she is totally accepted as she is now. So that's pretty awesome.
Lower Decks (LD) is the most recently animated show and is by far the most humorous series. Lots of callbacks to the ridiculousness that has happened in the previous series. Star Trek has so much lore. But it's so great.
I have also read that Discovery (DSC) is a great place to jump in too. It requires no prior knowledge. It's part of the 'new Trek' era. I haven't seen it myself, but it is on my list.
Overall, Star Trek is based on optimism and hope for a more utopian universe where people (and aliens) are accepted no matter what. Sure, there are still conflicts between people. There is still war in some circumstances. But the focus of the show is people and aliens coming together from all walks of life to explore the universe and make it a better place. There are rarely black-and-white situations because the characters really do consider the nuance of the issues most of the time. It's political and progressive. And it's full of heartful characters who just want the best for each other (mostly).
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Sorry for the long ask!
Hello!
Well this is the post thats going to make me watch star trek now, its too late op 🙃 im going to enter the fandom
#media recs#prompt#Honestly considering my latest interest in politics and media dissection this would probably be something I'd enjoy#You are absolutely welcome to talk more about star trek (genuine)#Cant wait to watch this#Dissecting this would be so much fun

Would you ship this: Lenara Kahn/Ezri Dax
WOULD YOU SHIP...? || @voxiiferous || accepting
⡷⠂8.5 / 10⠐⢾
Complicated, but so awesome. And almost canon, in that "I knew you in a past life" way! This is the kind of ship that's either going to be insanely sweet and challenge the world to be together-- or it's going to end up like Lenara and Jadzia, and rip my lil heart out. I don't think there could be any grey area there. There's just too much history!
#voxiiferous#. lenara kahn#. ezri dax#( i don't know which side of this ship i'd rather write )#( they'd both be fun! )

Watching DS9: Day 1
Heyo, I started watching DS9 because I'm bored and kind of tired of watching tng, and people have been recommending this forever so might as well give it a go, yeah?
-
Episode 1
'Sisko's Sassy Mouth'
Overall: I watched the first episode and I'm intrigued. The premise of the episode was a bit tropey and pretty predictable, but it was somewhat enjoyable. To be fair though, Pilot Episodes are usually not very interesting to me in general, and so it's not fair to judge an entire show by its first episode. I'm keeping my mind open and excited to meet other characters. My favorite part was probably Sisko coming to terms with Jennifer's death and how he needs to move on without her and I thought that was very sad and profound. It broke my heart.
-
Thoughts:
omg I feel so bad, I was making fun of the shaky cam in the beginning and then Sisko(?) lost his wife and just barely made it out with his son like...now I feel terrible but like. On the plus side, it's good to see POCs as main characters in Star Trek! Also I hate how blurry it looks omg and the green screen effectors are absolutely terrible but then again, this was in the 90s I believe
Miles O'Brien(I think?) seems like a cool dude. He has an accent so I'm guessing he's the DS9 version of Scotty? Seems like a fun guy, idk. Compared to Sisko, who reminds me of Captain Raymond from B99 with his seriousness and his commanding style. When do I meet Bashir? I heard he's a sassy boi.
WAIT, Sisko's only a commander?? My dumb ass thought he was a captain. Also I'm with Jake or Jason(Sisko's son) that the station is a dump my dude. He doesn't even have a bed! Also Picard's here for this episode so, fun I guess. I like his bald head.
Omg Sisko's sassy, we're fifteen minutes in and I love him. That Bajoran woman in the orange jumpsuit thing is fun, snazzy I like her too.
AH THOSE HOT DOG GRABBING FERENGI! Wait Obo or Odo is here! OMGGG HE JUST TURNED TO LIQUID(OR LIGUIDY, HE TURNED TRANSPARENT) WHAT THE HELL?
Oh I've heard of Quark before? He's the sleazy Ferengi? And Nog I think? The little Ferengi? He's got something, idk what. He's too small for the brig, Sisko! HE'S A BABY.
NO. Sisko hates Picard omggg. Noooo. I don't love Picard, but like, I would protect him with my life. Omg Sisko and Picard have some hot tea to spill. Idk what they're angry about though.
Quark has good energy omg (community leader? *chaotic laughing*)
Omg Odo hates Ferengi but also that's prejudice Odo goddammit. Like I hate Quark too but that's no excuse.
Do Sisko and the orange Bajoran lady have energy or--? Hm, seems a bit forced though.
OMG BaSHir is here!! What's his accent? Is that British omg! Oh he's a doctor, fascinating!
The lady with the lil designs on her face is so pretty! Dax I think? Or Jadzia I'm not positive. She seems nice for the most part.
Is--Is Odo a shapeshifter?? My dude literally transformed into a bag. I literally had no idea what Odo's job aboard the station was. Apparently he's head of security but also omg he's an orphan?? And only one of his kind??
Poor O'Brien is making the impossible possible, he's practically sweating omg I can feel his pain.
#star trek#star trek ds9#sisko is the disco#bashir is handsome but seems too charming for his own good#I like that bajoran lady#jadzia is awesome too

I’ve got so many cheerfully unpopular Star Trek opinions that I should probably just make my own post:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is a severely overrated waste of the “Space Seed” concept
TNG season 1 is the purest articulation of “Gene Roddenberry’s vision.”
Elim Garak seems like he would be pretty terrible at actual spycraft (don’t get me wrong, I love him, but isn’t the point of being a spy to not come across as really suspicious to everyone you meet?)
Section 31 is a lazy trick to write around the utopianness of the setting, and its canonical backstory sounds like some bullshit from infowars
My antipathy towards the whole concept of the mirror universe has recently blossomed into a full-blown loathing as a result of its prominence on Discovery and in the comics, and I sincerely hope, no doubt in vain, that they never use it or mention it again in any medium
Getting assimilated by the Borg actually sounds pretty awesome. Like, I would prefer to be assimilated by the kinder/gentler Agnes Jurati-style Reform Borg, but honestly I’m not particular
Speaking of Jurati, her assimilation arc is far and away the most interesting thing that has been done with the Borg in any medium in the last thirty years
Fridging characters is only bad if killing them is less interesting than letting them live. By the standard, I don’t have a problem with Icheb getting killed
The Klingons are vastly more interesting as allies than as enemies
The writers of Strange New Worlds fundamentally did not understand the point of “Arena” and they’ve sadly fucked up the Gorn
Making peace with Species 8472 was one of Voyager’s finest moments. It’s unfair to assume that an entire species is made up of genocidal social Darwinists just because a few of its military commanders think that way.
Voyager is one of the few series that could honestly benefit greatly from a darker, grittier, more serialized reboot
All Ferengi episodes are good, even “Profit and Lace,” and that’s the worst thing ever made.
Deep Space Nine went too far in making the Ferengi non-threatening. Just because they’re silly and physically unimposing doesn’t mean that they’re not dangerous.
Jadzia seemed more like she was in love with the idea of dating a Klingon than she was with Worf as an actual person. To be fair, Worf also fetishizes his Klingonness, albeit in a different way. In any case, it is inconceivable to me that she wouldn’t have dumped his ass after “Let He Who Is Without Sin...”
I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of Star Trek time travel plots that are actually good
Vic Fontaine is a wonderful character, his musical interludes are always great fun, and Deep Space Nine is richer for having him on it

what’s a friendship/relationship (NON ROMANTIC we’ve done enough shipping) that you would’ve liked to see in every series you’ve seen so far… and what’s one relationship that you think got too much screentime ?
Very good question sam!
TOS: obviously a more fleshed out relationship with the side cast. It would have been so awesome to see more of the sulu/chekov/Uhura friendship. Also just more Uhura in general, we got little tastes of her relationship with Spock and I always thought they had a good dynamic (I guess that’s why they made strange new worlds… Erm) I’m not going to say there was a relationship we saw too much of… because well.. there was like one very well established relationship in that show and well uh… you know
Tng: I think tng had pretty strict pairings, probably because they were just trying to keep it simple and stick to a formula. (Geordi and data, Riker and troi, Picard and Beverly) we literally got like one episode (disaster) of the Geordi Beverly friendship and I’m like sooo obsessed. I love Geordi and he’s just a very friendly guy who can probably chill with anyone so I would have liked to see more of him with all the other characters as well (especially Riker and Worf) and speaking of Riker and worf, they had a somewhat established relationship but they could have been sooooo bestie vibes. (I feel like they often isolated worf in TNG. Everyone else seemed to have their counterpart except for him, and the worf centric episodes tended to feature a visiting cast (ie Klingon stuff) that’s why I feel like he worked better in ds9, he was more integrated into the cast and he got his own counterpart (jadzia) relationship we saw too much of…. Probably Picard and like anyone. We get it he’s a mentor figure. Let’s move on
DS9: I think DS9 was best at developing relationships between the characters, not really having as many strict duos like TNG did. Every Kira and Jadzia moment was so cute and although we got a pretty fair amount of them I needed wayyyyy more. I know it’s kinda obvious to have the two “girl characters” hang out, but I think their personalities compliment each other nicely, and Kira could have benefitted from learning to have some fun and relax with Jadzia. It’s like kind of established that Worf and O’Brien are friends, but again would have been cool to see them chill together more often and it seems very natural since they have been serving together for so long. More O’Brien or Sikso as a mentor figure to Nog as well, that would have been very sweet…. Uhhh and Nog and Worf should have gone on an adventure together, just because I think visually that would have been very funny. Relationship I think we saw too much of….. hmmm right now I’m feeling a little Kira/odo fatigued

I was going to add a comment to your post about ST:PIC, but I felt maybe this was too long and personal of a comment. And I don't even need a response if you don't feel like giving one. But I wanted to say, I understand, at least a little. When the DS9 episode with Jadzia's same sex kiss aired the first time on live TV, I was watching, and my mother turned it off and said it was disgusting. It's not like I was a little kid either - I was a teenager. I didn't see the end of that episode until it was streaming on Netfix decades later. My mother watched TOS when she was younger, so you would think that she would've understood that Star Trek likes being on the cutting edge of social commentary.
Anyway that was almost 30 years ago and I wish the real world had changed more in that time. I'll also add that my mom turning off the TV that day didn't stop me from eventually thinking that both Bashir and Jadzia were the best looking actors on the show. That weren't Romulans.
Thank you so much for sending me this, my friend. 💜 I hope you’re okay with me responding to this publicly (if you’re not, please let me know and I’ll take it down asap). Seriously, this message and all the other responses I’ve gotten have been really positive, so thank you! 💖
I’ve been trying to think of a reply to this beyond a simple ‘thank you,’ because I definitely want to make sure what I say is meaningful (especially given the personal nature of your message). Because this message 100000% deserves a meaningful response. This is a really important topic.
It’s nice to know I’m not alone. I mean, obviously, I’m sorry you had to go through that, of course, but thank you for taking the time to tell me about your experience. Moments like both yours and mine aren’t pleasant, but they do serve to illustrate a couple points.
I’m gonna pop them under a readmore. This is just a little dig for a silver lining to all this. Feel free to ignore if you like. I just felt rambly and had a few thoughts bouncing around in my head.
1.) Reassuring Non-Uniqueness - Almost anything you go through has been gone through before. I’m not downplaying anyone’s experiences by any means! Own your story! It’s your own! Your experiences are important! What I do mean is that if you’re looking for a solution to a problem you’re facing, there are likely a lot of people who can tell you what they did/how they faced a similar problem. You can learn from their experiences and take comfort in the fact that someone knows how you’re feeling (or at least have a pretty good idea of what you’re going through). You’re never alone. There are people who’ve been where you are and who will stand with you. (Also, you can make some pretty awesome friends in the process.)
2.) Failure To Replicate - Hatred and bigotry are obviously bad things. Do I even need to say that? Hopefully, people know that already. For the sake of my sanity, I’m going to assume people do know that. Once you get to a certain point, you start to realize that if you’re recognizing hatred/intolerance in your parents that you don’t share, while the hatred is bad, by simply recognizing that you don’t share it, that means their attempts to teach you to be intolerant like them have failed. Instead of raising their kids to be exactly like them, the goal of every good parent should be to raise their kids to be good people. As long as people keep failing to raise their kids to be hateful like them, the number of kind people in the world will keep growing. [insert “Task Failed Successfully” meme here]
I know this isn’t like...a super comprehensive essay, but I did want to toss out my two cents in case it helps someone.
...Also, on a less serious note: You’re very right, Julian and Jadzia are both SUPER ATTRACTIVE. *giggles in bisexual*
