Notice:

• Position jack stands under vehicle.

• Remove the wheel.

• Block vehicle wheels and apply the parking brake.

• Rise the axle to clear the tire from the ground.

• Remove the hub and disc before removing the support assembly.

• Remove the hub and disc before removing the wind guide.

Disassembly 1. Place a piece of wood across the body assembly to prevent piston damage. 2. Apply approximately 196 kPa (2.0 kg/cm2 / 28.4 psi) of compressed air to the body assembly oil port to remove the pistons.

Inspection 1. All parts for wear distortion or other conditions and replace as needed. 2. Inner and outer pads. • Use a vernier caliper to measure the inner pad and outer pad thickness.

3. Piston and Cylinder Clearance. • Use a micrometer to measure the piston diam- eter. • Use an inside dial indicator to measure the cyl- inder bore. • Calculate the piston and cylinder bore clear- ance.

 • If the clearance exceeds the specified limit, the piston and/or the body assembly must be re- placed along with the repair seal kit.

Ash was standing in a bar, behind the counter, passing bottles of beer to the men that sat there. “I ought to complain to Spotify for you being named this year’s hottest single.” A burly man winked, trying to be attractive. “What can I get you, sir?” Ash monotonously replied, shaking a drink expertly up and down before pouring it into a glass, sliding it to a woman on the other side of the counter. “A drink as sweet as you.” A man watched the happenings, gripping the table so hard his knuckles became white. His brown curls fell over his face, waistcoat crisp and shirt free of stains, a glass of Scotch laid abandoned on the table. His deep cerulean eyes were cold, observing the situation, teeth gritted. She passed the man a bottle, her eyes hardening but flashing green for a split second. “With how many women did you use this pickup line?” She picked up a rag, slowly wiping a glass. “You’re the first, darling.” Ash’s hand flew to his head, grabbing a tuft full of hair and slamming his face down on the table, her expression contorting. The people in the bar screamed, eyes widening at the sight of the man’s bloody face, groaning in pain. They ran out in fright, only Charles remaining in the corner, unseen, sipping his Scotch. “Now, I think you’re quite wrong. I can tell when a man like you wants a woman like me, you look at me like I’m a meal. Now how about you take yourself elsewhere, because you will certainly need a doctor for your broken nose, and arm.” She grabbed hold of his hand, forcing it the wrong way and down onto the table, a sickening crack echoing through the dingy space. “Wow, I’m badass.” Ash whispered from outside, looking in. “Alright, kids, you stay here until you get given the all clear. Our future counterparts will be very dangerous, and we can deal with them.” Charles explained, readying for the mission. The man burst out of the bar doors, cradling his arm, squeaking in fright when he saw Ash. “At least I know she did a good job of it.” When they had their backs turned, Ash and Charles entered, carefully stepping on the floor. “I told you to leave!” A knife flew all the way towards Charles’s face, a hand grabbing it just before it could touch his forehead. It turned out to be Ash from the past, her face monotonous as she casually took the knife away from Charles’s face, before throwing it in return, only giving her counterpart a few seconds to dive out of the way. “Whoever you are, I suggest you leave.” Charles had come out of his hiding place, rolling back his sleeves, his eyebrows a little furrowed as he stared down the two. “They have no clue.” Charles giggled, before blocking a punch sent his way by his clone, punching him in the jaw in return, but a sharp pain ripped through his jaw, his hand flying to the affliction but finding nothing there. The two Ashes were fighting at high speed, finding that their blows were bouncing back on them. The Ash from the future threw a punch, the other forced to do a backbend to dodge it, coming back up and doing a 720 degree tornado kick, but the force of the blow on her future counterpart rebounding back on her, both of them flying into a wall. The two Charles’ were in a wrestling match, their faces red as they struggled against equal strength. While the past Ash was distracted, she was pinned against the wall, but her clone’s amber eyes landed on the necklace still around her neck. “How do you have that?” She whispered just as the present Charles noticed the ring. “Because we are you. We’re your selves from the past.” “If you don’t let us go then you two will be the cause of the world falling into ruin.” The two let go, stepping back. “I didn’t know I looked this hot.” Ash grinned, running a hand through her hair. “Charles?” “Yes?” Both of them replied, curious. “Ah, yes. We need a way to know who’s who.” “How about the me from the past could be called just Ash, I could be called Cyrus, past Charles could be just Charles and future Charles, Xavier?” “We could give it a try.” Xavier agreed. “Even the writer’s agreeing with you.” The kids

had come in, grinning. “Wait a second. IQ… Chrystal… Stopwatch and… Nova?! How did you guys get here?!” “IQ built a time travelling machine and Professor Hank built-” “The anti-ageing machine. He’s quite clever, isn’t he?” Xavier smiled, reminiscing the days of the First Class. “Is Hank…” “Oh no, he’s quite alive. He came round for drinks yesterday.” Cyrus winked, taking out a bottle of butterscotch liqueur and downing a bit. “Like a d-date?” “Of course not. Hank’s not her type. Can I have some of that?” Ash asked before being handed the bottle, chugging it unashamedly. “We can catch up tomorrow, let’s call it a day. Do any of you two bozos have anywhere to stay?” Xavier nodded, entranced by the two. “Yes, I do. And here’s some lips- tips.”

Phantom of the Opera/Sherlock Holmes Crossover Masterpost

@wheel-of-fish and @jennyfair7 requested a master post of all of the Sherlock Holmes and Phantom of the Opera crossovers that I know of, so after a few days of compiling, here it is! These books range from the (fairly) well known to the rather obsessively obscure, and include any books I know of where the Holmes and Phantom universes overlap. I’ve taken this as a chance to review the ones I’ve read, and I’ll hopefully be able to update this post with more info on the others once I finish them. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Note: this is only a list of crossovers published and available for purchase, and of which I am aware. If anyone else knows of more, please let me know!

The Angel of the Opera by Sam Siciliano

This is the first Phantom/Sherlock crossover I ever read. For me it’s a bit hit or miss. The author decided to forgo including Watson, and instead included a character named Doctor Henry Vernier, a cousin of Holmes’, as the narrator. I believe that Henry Vernier is most likely a reference to Doctor Verner, Holmes’ cousin who ended up buying Watson’s medical practice after the death of Mary Watson. Which is to say, it’s a book written by a person who seemingly remembered a single line from a single Sherlock Holmes story about Holmes having a physician cousin named Verner (presumably made into Vernier for the purposes of the book’s French setting, and to reflect Holmes’ French heritage), but still managed to confuse the Grasshopper and the Scorpion, and occasionally spell Erik as “Eric.” It makes some sense, though, as Siciliano is mostly a Sherlockian, with several other pastiches under his belt. For my money, he’s not my favorite interpreter of Holmes as a character, although it could be that his choice of narrators impacts how Holmes is portrayed. Although it does tend to fall into some Phantom-centric tropes that I don’t care for, overall The Angel of the Opera is long enough to flesh out the story more fully than some Holmes/Phantom crossovers manage, and in general the style feels consistent with what you would expect from a Holmes story. It absolutely pulled me in when I read it at a young age, and I’m hoping to have the chance to revisit it soon.

The Canary Trainer by Nicholas Meyer

The Canary Trainer is the second book (chronologically) in a trio of Holmes novels that take place during The Great Hiatus, the years between “The Final Problem” and “The Empty House,” during which time Holmes is assumed dead. The first book, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, involves Holmes meeting Sigmund Freud and undergoing psychotherapy to cope with his drug addiction. The Canary Trainer finds Holmes in France, taking a violinist position at the Opera House and coming face to face (so to speak) with Erik. Nicholas Meyer is perhaps best known for directing Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The Seven-Per-Cent Solution is a well-known Holmes pastiche (which I will admit I’ve never read). The Canary Trainer is a bit more obscure.

The Canary Trainer takes on a lot of cool concepts (a story that takes place during The Great Hiatus, perspective on Erik’s time as an architect and builder, etc.), but it also makes a lot of baffling choices, such as having Gaston Leroux show up as a character, and including Irene Adler only to under-utilize her as little more than a love interest for Holmes (her lukewarm friendship with Christine is one of the most disappointing parts of the book, in my opinion). It also barely allows Erik and Holmes to interact. Erik is such a profoundly sympathetic antagonist and Holmes is capable of such extreme empathy that it’s a shame to not let them engage with each other.

Rendezvous at the Populaire and I Will Find the Answer by Kate Workman

While most Holmes/Phantom crossovers focus on Leroux’s novel, Rendezvous at the Populaire, as its name suggests, pulls heavily from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. So heavily, in fact, that a major chunk of the dialogue and descriptions comes directly from lyrics, which can be distracting. Stylistically, Rendezvous at the Populaire reads differently than your typical Holmes pastiche, drawing from multiple points of view instead of one narrator. It can feel rather rough around the edges, but I ultimately found it a fun read. It’s nice to read a crossover that features Watson, and Holmes and Erik have a nice dynamic. This book prompted a sequel, I Will Find the Answer, in which Holmes, Watson, and Erik join forces to solve the Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. In the same way that Rendezvous at the Populaire draws primarily from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, I Will Find the Answer draws more heavily from Jekyll and Hyde than from Robert Louis Stevenson’s book. Workman’s style progresses nicely between books, making I Will Find the Answer a bit easier of a read, less reliant on song lyrics for its text. If she ever decides to publish her proposed third book featuring Holmes and Erik solving the Jack the Ripper murders, I’ll be interested to read it.

Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Opera Ghost by Steven Philip Jones and Aldin Baroza

This is two part comic is part of a series pitting Holmes against various gothic literary icons and monsters. It draws heavily from Leroux and Kay. The comic takes place after The Great Hiatus and the death of Mary Watson. The story had to be pretty heavily condensed to fit the two issue format, but it accomplishes a lot in a short space, hitting high points in the story. There is a subplot that heavily focuses on Watson mourning Mary’s death, which leads to a unique twist on the end of the story. The art style is cool and has a nice vintage black and white look. I would love to see this concept extended into a longer series, but as it stands it’s a nice, quick read. Due to its brevity it does get a little confusing at times, including a point where Mary appears to call Watson “James” instead of John (although it’s hard to fault the comics for a mistake Doyle himself occasionally made), but it’s a lot of fun and definitely worth checking out.

Angels of Music by Kim Newman

This is a crossover that breaks the mold! Instead of pitting Holmes against Erik, this book features Irene Adler (among other fictional woman, including Christine Daaé and some of Newman’s own characters from other books) working with Erik as a sort of spy. It’s Charlie’s Angels by way of The Phantom of the Opera, and I’m only a few pages into it, but I’m certainly excited to read more. In some ways Irene Adler is a more natural fit into Phantom than Holmes himself is, so I’m always interested to find crossovers that include her. I’ll likely update this post once I’ve finished the book.

The Phantom of the Opera Carmen by Regina Goncalves

I had to do a lot of digging to find any information about this book and I’m still not entirely sure what it’s about, but I wanted to include it for the sake of thoroughness. Hopefully I’ll be able to read it and provide an update later.

The Phantom of the Opera Carmen is one story in a series of educational books for young readers. The stories focus on a time traveler named Caius Zip who travels and learns about the connection between art and science. This story features Caius teaming up with Sherlock Holmes and H.G. Wells to solve the mystery of our favorite ghost while the opera house attempts to mount a production of Carmen. There also seems to be a story about Caius and Sherlock meeting some of the masters of Impressionism and learning about their art. How, if at all, this ties in with the Phantom plot isn’t clear. This book is on my list once I finish Angels of Music, so I hope to be able to report back later.

 Sherlock Holmes contro il Fantasma dell’Opera is an e-book short story/novella in which Sherlock Holmes once again takes a position as a violinist at the opera house in order to solve the mystery of the Phantom. Volca FM LED Makeover

Right. I can’t leave stuff alone. We know this. So it only took maybe three days for me to decide that green LEDs would look better on the Volca FM than the red ones Korg went with. I mean, c’mon, the soft buttons and even the sliders are green already for fuck’s sake, and it’s a nice homage to the DX synths, but why stop there? Green. LEDs. Yes. Must. Have. Now.

I knew it was gonna be SMD LEDs from the get go. There’s no way there’d be room for through-hole LEDs (or anything else really, aside from the pots & encoders and yeah ok the MIDI and power and sync and audio jacks but goddammit you know what I mean). These fucking things are goddam small as fuck. I used to be scared shitless of SMD components too, but now not so much. Anyway it didn’t take long to desolder and remove the factory LEDs.

That right there is a Jen-you-wine High Tech SMD LED Pusher Outer. See, the way Korg designed this PCB has the LEDs fit snugly into 2mm holes in the PCB, with the solder pads on the underside of said PCB, which I guess makes sense as the top side has the “keyboard” contact pad section immediately above. I got a bit impatient though while removing the LEDs and pulled one of the solder pads up off the PCB but caught it just in time to keep the pad from separating from the hair-thin trace. Miracles DO happen after all I guess. Next it was off to Osaka to buy green SMD LEDs. They were ¥5 a piece but you have to buy them in lots of ten. Yay I’m out a buck. Cheap! But after you factor in train and subway fare it’s more like ten bucks. Whatever. Ok, after that was all said and done it was time to solder in the green LEDs. Hmmmm. They don’t seem to wanna fit in the holes. What gives? Time to break out the vernier calipers. Hmmmmm. Time to look at the datasheet on these green LEDs. Goddam. 1.9mm. Tight fight. There’s also a +/- 0.2mm margin for error so that doesn’t help. The factory LEDs are just a fucking smidge smaller, but still a 3216 SMD package. Well. No going back now. ONWARDS!!!

Yay. All soldered in. Test time. Yay, three of then aren’t lighting up. AAAAARGH. Remember when I said the new LEDs were a teeny bit larger than the from-the-factory ones? Evidently I crushed the lens of one fitting it in the hole and that caused ground problems for an adjacent LED, while the third one came on after a reflow of solder. There was much cursing, frustration, and gnashing of teeth. In the end, I managed to get them all working, but I’m not sure they’ll stay that way. I may do some parts hunting to see if a smaller (!!!) SMD green LED is available and then replace the lot. Here’s what it looks like now:

Way more in line with my personal vision of something that just screams out I AM AN FM SYNTH, MOTHERFUCKER!!!!! Notice I changed out the Play button LED to green as well. Yeah much better. I was thinking next I might go with blue LEDs on the Volca Modular. Who knows!?

Week 2: Technical Drawing a Small Object

Getting started 

For this technical drawing, I choose an earphone jack adaptor. Firstly, I have measured all of the sizes. It was kind of hard to measure the sizes because I was only using a ruler and the object itself has a plenty of complex shapes that should be measured by a caliper rather than a ruler.  

Paper placement problems 

However when I finished drawing the front side I realised that I was not placing it properly on the paper. It was right on the middle of the paper which is wrong because then there wouldn’t be enough space to draw other views of the adaptor. So then Will, helped me planned the correct placement of the jack adaptor.

It was reckless of me to not plan the layout properly and so I had to re-do everything from the beginning. The drawing turned out to be like this:

Reflection

Well, I was not satisfied as it is pretty messy without the exact sizes and few dirty marks around the paper. So, I re-draw it again at home with the right measurements using my vernier caliper. It turned out to be so much better than before. The only thing missing is the border which I forgot to put and just remembered right after I finish. However, I am satisfied with the result as it is much more neat and clean.

Conclusion: After interviewing several of the victims of the Doxy Dust Curse, aurors Monday and Vernier were able to successfully determine that the curse originated out of a Gigglewater Bottling Plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Upon arriving at the plant, both aurors became involved in a foot chase after a wix there quickly fled the scene. After subduing the wix, the wix confessed to cursing several bottles distributed out of the plant. Repairing Front Brakes of your Car

Brakes are very important for every kind of vehicle to have. The function of the brakes is to allow the car to come to a halt on reaching the destination. Without the brakes how shall a running vehicle come to an end? Also, the purpose of cars would be lost without the brakes since it was invented for resolving the difficulties of travelling distances, but what shall that be if it cannot be stopped upon reaching the point of end.

Most of us neglect these brakes since it is not something that is fitted on the outside of a vehicle and shall attract one’s eye. These are fitted on the interior of the car and do not require daily attention. But it does require its share of care; otherwise, brake repair can cost you unnecessarily. So make sure to ask for the brakes check-up at the time of your Car Repair Glossop. Even after all this, if the front brakes need repairing, then you can try doing it at home by yourself. Let us skip to the steps of it.

Firstly your car needs to be lifted up either with the use of a jack and axles or a hoist and maintaining safety by removing the front wheels carefully. Taking proper safety measures is important when performing such tasks at home. Now the front braking system of most of the cars is similar to what a 2001 Nissan Pulsar has on which the demonstration is being done here. Once you locate the brake calliper you shall find two bolts of small size holding it into the bracket. The bolt at the bottom needs to be removed in order to get the sight of the brake pads once the calliper is lifted too. After moving the calliper out of the bracket it has to be kept somewhere while making sure the brake line is under no stress. After this, the brake pads can be easily removed.

Now the next important step is to measure the brake rotors or what we call the rotor disks. Their size needs to be the perfect one since it can become a problem if the rotors are undersized. So, now the vernier callipers need to be made zero. This is easy, you only need to take the two points and put them together and press zero. After this is done, they shall be opened and carefully placed over the rotor. Then close the former’s points on the latter and find out the lowest point of it by moving it around a little. In this way, you shall get the right measurement.

Now as per the specifications provided by the manufacturer, the rotors need to satisfy the minimum thickness required, and then it is fine to move on to the next step. If you find them to be just about the minimum thickness then it is better to replace them to avoid trouble.

For the next step of machining the rotors, it is necessary to remove both the bolts from the bracket of the calliper and bring out the rotors. Check for screws on the rotors if any while taking them out. Machining is the tough part and if possible it is better to be done by trained technicians. Firstly, it involves sanding of the rotors with 120 grit sandpaper to rid it of build-up and dirt deposits. Then it requires trimming, cutting and thinning. This shall help them to regain some friction capacity and this is also called resurfacing. But it is often better to get new rotors than machining the old ones.

Now it is time for reassembling. Before this, the calliper bracket should be cleaned and greased along with the calliper slides which shall help the brakes in performing better; then install the rotor, the calliper bracket and the brake pads one after the other. Then position the calliper back into the bracket and attach the bolts tightly. Then place the wheels back and lower down the car. Check the brakes by taking a short drive.
