Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks (1975)

Ahogyan korábban már írtam Joni Mitchell kapcsán, kicsit tartottam ettől a lemeztől, de összességében kellemes csalódás volt. Illetve itt is az a helyzet állt elő, hogy egy olyan előadóval van dolgom, akit nem igazán ismerek, és rögtön a 15. albumával kezdem a sort, szóval így nehezen helyezem kontextusba.

Amit eddig hallottam Dylantől, azok mind a korábbi munkásságából való, gitározós, szájharmonikázós nagy megfejtések voltak, és ez az a hangzás, amivel őt azonosítom, és ami miatt nem is éreztem soha késztetést, hogy jobban beleássam magam a zenéjébe.

Amikor hallgatom ezeket az albumokat a listáról, főleg ha olyanról van szó, amit egyáltalán nem vágok, akkor közben mindig utánaolvasok. Most is így tettem, és annak ellenére, hogy tényleg nem volt rossz élmény a lemez sem, a hozzá kapcsolódó infókat érdekesebbnek találtam.

Az egyik ilyen, hogy Dylan az album legelső nyers változatát megmutatta néhány zenész barátjának, többek között a Crosby, Stills & Nash hármasnak is, amiből az utóbbi azt mondta a dalok meghallgatása után, hogy "He's a good songwriter ... but he's no musician." IGEN! Köszi Graham Nash, hogy megerősítettél ebben a gondolatban, ha te mondod, akkor így is van! Nekem is mindig ez volt az érzésem, hogy Dylan inkább egy költő vagy ilyen slammer (bocs Bob, nem akarlak megsérteni ezzel), akinek a zene csak másodlagos, harmadlagos dolog, ezért nem is fordít rá annyi figyelmet.

És ennél az albumnál is így volt - a dalokat először a szokásos akusztikus eszköztárral vette fel Dylan, és így is akarta megjelentetni, de aztán eljátszott a gondolattal, hogy mi lenne, ha raknának mögé rendes zenekart. Az első próbálkozás a korábbi gitárosával volt, aki ezt mondta a dalokról: "They all began to sound the same to me; they were all in the same key; they were all long. He was sort of pissed off that I didn't pick it up." IGEN! Köszi Mike Bloomfield, nekem is ugyanez volt a benyomásom, miközben hallgattam.

Aztán megpróbálkoztak egy másik zenekarral, akiket két nap után elküldtek, mert nem tudták tartani a tempót Dylannel meg a munkamódszereivel, miszerint "Sometimes he will have several bars, and in the next version, he will change his mind about how many bars there should be in between a verse. Or eliminate a verse. Or add a chorus when you don't expect." IGEN! Köszi Phil Ramone, pont ilyennek képzeltem eddig is ezt a csávót!

Végül két különböző csapattal, két helyszínen, sokszori nekifutásra, de csak összeállt az a verzió, ami megjelent. És számomra is ez tette fogyaszthatóvá az egészet, hogy nem csak a gitározós, szájharmonikázós (amit amúgy nem is szeretek!) sztíló megy 51 percen keresztül, hanem ennél gazdagabb a hangzás.

A Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts volt az egyetlen dal, amit skippeltem kb két és fél perc után, mert megláttam, hogy még hátra van belőle hat és fél, és hát sajnos ezt a hillie-billie-dixieland-bendzsós hülyeséget nem bírom. :(

Viszont a You're a Big Girl Now kifejezetten tetszett, még az is lehet, hogy máskor is fogom hallgatni.

my apologies if this is too simple or juvenile or personal a question but HOW did you become such a proficient writer? and do you have any tips or pointers to keep in mind? i know you must do a lot of reading and a lot of writing, but your skill is just incredible to me. your prose!! your cadence!! when we get around to talking about it is genuinely one of the best things i've ever read and i'd eat it if i could!!!

idk how i became a “proficient” writer bc I really don’t write that much. something about my fic gave me brainworms and i went into overdrive but that’s…not my usual MO. which is why it’s weird for me too. admittedly i am studying english/creative writing as my second major at uni, but i haven’t learned anything in any of my classes you couldn’t learn by just reading and writing on your own. honestly i should’ve stuck with my IR major instead, i find structured cw classes a complete waste of time. but here are some little tips i thought of that would’ve helped ME:

This is more a “do as I say not as I do” because I’m really bad at habits like this, but keep a diary. You can write about the big events (went to the store, did homework, got laid etc.) but that’s boring—focus on the details (watched someone at west side market throw a glass bottle of olives at a rat, broke a pen and permanently stained my dorm desk and won’t get my deposit back which pissed me off because I move out in a week, this guy’s breath smelled like lemon pledge and it made me wonder if he drank window cleaner before kissing me etc.). Real life is really interesting! How can you write about interesting real life in an interesting way? It’s a good way to practice. You don’t have to do a big reflection at the end of the day or anything. It’s okay to jot down something you saw & then immediately forget about it. It’s the act of figuring out how to translate life into words that’s important

If you type, learn how to type FAST. This is just my experience, but I think typing faster makes your cadence, clause length, dialogue, IDEAS flow better/more naturally. We think in words/sentences, not letters.

This is a super lame tip that’ll make you roll your eyes, but read poetry. Poetry is all about how words/ideas/images sound and interact with each other. Don’t get hung up on one poet—im not really recommending any for precisely this reason—read poetry you love (for me, Ada Limón, Jack Kerouac, Frank O’Hara, ghazals etc) AND read poetry you hate (for me, Rupi Kaur, Emily Dickinson, Whitman, etc)! Read all genres you can get your hands on. (I think there are like “great poetry anthologies” you can find for free online if u don’t know where to start. Also you can’t go wrong with subscribing to/reading a variety magazine like the NYer. It’s pretentious but it exposes you to all kinds of weird topics, ways of writing about them, etc.) Figure out how certain combinations of words and punctuations make you FEEL, and why, and why the writer chose (or not) to make you feel that way. Figure out which literary sounds you like and which ones you don’t. For me, i figured out that I REALLY like alliteration, comma splices, zeugmas, the rule of three, and

“he’s [verb]ing again… yeah compacflt’s characters are [verb]ing again… big shocker”

If you have an idea for a piece, figure out what it is you really want to get out of it—to say something? to experiment with a different style? to see your fav characters do something? to have fun?—and then figure out how, on a technical level, you should write to match that goal (this is where the poetry training comes in handy). If you’re just writing to have fun, don’t listen to any writing advice (incl. mine), because most of it is bullshit and over-generalized and will make you feel bad about yourself. Just take the advice that you think will work for what YOURE trying to write.

But if you’re writing to explore some political idea, then you should think about HOW to best write about that idea. What would be a convincing story/allegory/scene to engage with this idea vs. not convincing. I talk on this blog all the time about how disappointed I am that my very-adult-grown-up attempt to deal with the dynamic of “immovable internalized homophobia vs unstoppable falling in love anyway” is rendered a little childish/immature by some pretty unconvincing plot points like the characters buying a house together—I really should have considered how that plot point would interact with the characterizations I’d built already (hint: poorly). You can think of writing as kind of a military structure if that helps—you have strategy on the overarching campaign (plot/character growth/allegory/theme) level, the battle (scene that advances the above) level, and the tactical (sentence-level construction/syntax/wording) level. They all have to work together. If a scene is failing to properly engage with the idea you’re trying to convey, you’re losing a battle that will weaken the overarching campaign. Same thing if you choose a weird word in a sentence/write in a style or tone that’s weirdly out of place with your idea—it makes your engagement with the theme/idea less convincing. just try to be purposeful and consider your strategy on all levels of your work as you’re writing it!! At the very least it’ll make editing easier lol.

But then again when I read my own writing from just a couple months ago I cringe out of my skin, so like—just also accept that it’s a process and we’re all just making it up as we go along. Be proud of being embarrassed of your old work, because it means you’re growing. Own that shit. When I finished writing WWGATTAI i thought it was the best thing I’d ever written, and maybe it was. But since the day I finished working on it, it’s the worst thing I’ve written since then. That’s a great feeling. Not to be like writing grindset obviously bc it’s supposed to be fun—but if what you want is to get better at writing, the strategy is to WRITE a whole bunch of shit, and then own your embarrassment about how much you’ve grown since you started. And know you’re still always growing and learning. there should never be any “goals” where skills are concerned 👍🏽

Persze értem, hogy Antonoff mint producer is mennyire fontos és jó, de kétlem, hogy a Bleachers lemezek évtizedek múlva is igazán érdekesek lesznek, de ha majd egyszer kiadják a demokat azokon nem fog majd az idő.

A közös alap mindhárom modell esetében a Kirin 9000 lapkakészlet, mely az első 5nm-es, integrált 5G antennával ellátott mobil chipset, annyi különbséggel, hogy a sima Mate 40 az úgynevezett „E” verziót kapta meg, ami valamivel kevesebb grafikus teljesítményt tud letenni az asztalra. Nyilván ezen felül is akadnak hardveres eltérések, de külsőség szempontjából olyannyira nagy az összhang, hogy elsőre szinte csak a kamerák számából lehet megmondani, mikor melyik modellt látjuk magunk előtt.

A leginkább szembetűnő újítás pont ezen a téren, a hátlapi kamerák elrendezésén érhető tetten, a hátoldali négy (Pro+ esetében öt) objektív a vakuval együtt szimmetrikusan egy körívre került elhelyezésre és első ránézésre mindenképp esztétikusabbnak tűnik, mint a manapság divatos kamera-púpok – kicsit egyébként a régi iPodok tárcsájára emlékeztet.

A kamerák száma és képességei az egyes modellekben eltérő: A Mate 40 Pro - mint a család „tengelye” - négy objektívvel rendelkezik. Ezek közt a legfőbb darab 50 megapixeles, optikai képstabilizátorral és méretes, 1/1,28-as szenzorral és f/1.9-es numerikus apertúrával rendelkezik, ezt egészíti ki a Cine névre hallgató nagylátószögű modul (20 megapixeles felbontással és f/1.9-es apertúrával), az önmagában is ötszörös zoomot kínáló periszkóp kamera (12 megapixeles felbontással, optikai képstabilizátorral), mely látószögek játékával együtt összesen hétszeres optikai zoomot tesz lehetővé. A sort egy mélységérzékelő modul zárja, ami ezúttal nem ToF szenzor, az ugyanis csak előre jutott, a kamera kivágásban. Ez szolgál szelfi háttérelmosára és profibb arcfelismerésre, mármint a nagylátószögű szelfi modul mellett.

A Mate 40 Pro+ ehhez képest öt objektívvel operál, egy második zoom modult is kapott, a telefotó lencse háromszoros optikai nagyítást ad a közösbe, a periszkóp kamera tízszerest, kombináltan pedig tizenhétszeres optikai zoom áll rendelkezésünkre, illetve a hátlapra került ToF modul is.

A Mate 40 csak minimálisan lett gyengébb a Pro-hoz képest, a legnagyobb áldozat a periszkóp modul, maradt egy szimpla 8 megapixeles telefotó lencse, maximum öt megapixeles optikai nagyítással, illetve az előlapon is csak egy magányos 13 megapixeles kamerát találunk.

A Pro és Pro+ előlapját a szinte teljesen keret nélküli, 6,76 colos HDR AMOLED panel uralja a FHD+ (2772 x 1344 pixeles) felbontással és 90 Hz-es frissítési rátával, az érintéseket pedig 240 Hz-en regisztrálja. Ehhez képest a Mate 40 mindössze csak egy leheletnyit kisebb, 6,5 colos és ennek megfelelően 2376 x 1080 pixeles felbontású panelt kapott, mely továbbra is 90 Hz-es frissítési és 240 Hz-es érintés érzékelési rátával rendelkezik.

Ezen a megjelenítőn keresztül kezelhetjük az Android 10-re épülő EMUI 11-et, mely továbbra is Google-mentes, de legalább olyan extrákat kínál mint a lebegőablakos alkalmazáskezelés, az érintés nélküli gesztusvezérlés, de a készülék azt is érzékeli, hogy mikor nézünk rá, így az Always-On-Display névre hallgató állandó megjelenítést is csak akkor kapcsolja be, ha éppen figyelünk is a lezárt képernyőre.

A nyers erőt és számítási teljesítményt adó Kirin 9000 mellé 8/256 GB alapkiszerelés jár RAM-ból és tárhelyből (Pro+ esetében 12/267 GB a felosztás, Mate 40-nél pedig  8/128-as), áramforrással mindezt a Mate 40 Pro és Pro+ modelleknél a 4400 mAh-ás kapacitású akkumulátor látja el, melyet 66 wattos vezetékes gyorstöltés mellett 50 wattos vezeték nélküli töltéssel is etethetünk, míg a Mate 40 valamivel kisebb, 4200-as akkumulátora csak maximum 40 wattos vezetékes gyorstöltéssel etethető, itt a vezeték nélküli töltés nem is opció.

A víz- és porállóság mértéke egyik készülék esetében sem teljesen tiszta, de valószínűleg a Pro modellek IP68-as, míg az „alap” Mate 40 IP53-as minősítést érdemelt ki, igaz utóbbin meglepő módon kapott 3.5-mm-es jack csatlakozót.

Egyelőre magyar árakat nem ismerünk, illetve valószínűleg csak a Mate 40 Pro érkezik meg hazánkban, a Huawei reményei szerint még az idén. Euróban az árak:

I went to the Village today and then to Little Italy and that was *chaotic* cause of the San Genaro festival. I’m legit so fucking tired lmfao I tried getting away from it but it was just all over the place. Had brunch at Jack’s Wife Freda as well, which was delicious and then just walked around for a few hours later but I spent less time than I’d like at the Village. I wanna go back. Yeah they reconnected thru Jack, her team said it and honestly it doesn’t seem like a lie. The NME theory is so laughable because Matty himself said after the show that he went to greet her after not having talked in years, so he literally did that out of politeness

Yeah, this is based on minimal evidence from lyrics and just total vibes but I’ve always gotten the sense that she was sort of having a rocky time with Joe/ their relationship was reaching an end, and she and Matty kind of connected when Jack was making both their albums while they were doing midnights and Bfiafl. Which is probably what prompted her to be the guest at the London show. And the NYER reported them staying up late that night talking or whatever. So there was probably that phase of talking/ being intimate but not officially a couple etc etc. I know the speculation about ✨cheating✨ is a thing but like honestly that’s not that important imo. And also understandable that feelings are messy and complicated and when you’re in between relationships things get weird and grey. Whatever that stuff is their business.

But yeah maylors have their narratives. As do swifties. I just think it’s way more referring and productive to enjoy the interpretive possibilities of the art and no worry so much your the timeline of real events or the people it’s about or whatever.

A Traffic egy Philadelphia-i márka, amelyet Ricky Oyola, a 90-es évek egyik legismertebb, amerikai Keleti part-i gördeszkása alapított. A team főleg szintén Keleti part-i és japán deszkásokból áll.

A héten pedig végignézzük a Traffic Skateboards videóinak javát. Hogy mi az apropó? Először is, remek trú brand-del állunk szemben, nálunk is kapható, illetve Mike Vallely hívta fel Ricky Oyola-ra a figyelmet a legújabb könyvében megjelent egyik költeményében, amit mi is lehoztunk.

A mai menü a 2008-as Moving in Traffic, amely két kiváló deszkás köré építkezik és főleg New York utcáit veszi ostrom alá. A kezdő embererünk Bobby Puleo, legenda, nyers utcázó stílus, a végszó pedig Jack Sabback-é, kimért, precíz hajtással.

The Shining

Jeg har jobbet med å lage et produkt inspirert av The Shining i seks uker. Jeg ønsket å lage en reklameposter, så jeg tok utgangspunkt i det når jeg kom opp med idéer. Jeg startet idéfasen med å lage et tankekart over hva jeg assosierte med The Shining, og kom opp med idéer til hva jeg ville lage en poster for. Jeg kom med tre idéer:

- bind/tamponger

- Discord

- horror film

Inspirasjonen til å lage en poster for Discord kom fra hvordan familien i The Shining ble påvirket av å være isolert, og trakk det sammen med dagens situasjon med korona og karantene. Her er tankekartet jeg lagde etter å ha sett filmen:

Deretter startet jeg forarbeidet, som inkluderte å lage en produksjonsplan og skisser. Jeg startet med å lage tre skisser, og lagde noen røffe drafts i Photoshop for to av skissene for å se bedre visuelt hvordan plakatene kom til å se ut.

Så begynte jeg med produksjonsfasen. Jeg gjorde noen endringer fra skissene, på plakat 1 endret jeg mobilene til en nyere modell for å være mer oppdatert og kunne appellere mer til dagens ungdom. Bildet som er på den ene mobilen er fra appen Discord, og jeg fikk vennene mine til å late som vi hadde en normal samtale. Jeg skrev et manus der vi skulle snakke litt om karantene. 

Den ene vennen vil spille med noen, og en annen kan ikke fordi hun skal ha nettskole. Den fjerde vennen sier hun blir gal av å være isolert, og jeg svarer med en GIF av “Here’s Johhny”. GIF-en er en direkte referanse til The Shining, som jeg tenkte var viktig å ha med. Bildet på den andre mobilen er at alle vennene er i en voice chat. Jeg ville vise flere av funksjonene appen har, slik at den kan appellere til flere mennesker med forskjellige ønsker.

Designet på den plakaten syntes jeg var ganske pent visuelt, det er symmetrisk og skaper linjer i bildet. Da jeg produserte plakaten tenkte jeg mye på linjer og at jeg ville ha interessante linjer i bildet. Derfor droppet jeg den originale idéen fordi jeg synes komposisjonen var kjedelig og det var ingen interessante linjer.

Jeg ble relativt fort ferdig med den første plakaten, og tenkte at den var litt for simpel. Jeg bestemte meg derfor at jeg skulle omgjøre prosjektet til en kampanje for Discord, som skulle bestå av fire plakater. Jeg hadde lagd tre skisser i forarbeidet, og valgte å bruke den første skissen min. Jeg syntes at komposisjonen er enkel, men med tanke op at det er i en kampanje så funker den enkle komposisjonen. Slagordet “Don’t be like Jack Torrance during quarantine. Join Discord” er også en referanse til filmen som jeg syntes var morsom og passet bra til manuset. Jeg tenkte at plakat 1 og 2 kunne blitt plassert på en buss eller i en bussterminal.

Siden de to første plakatene kunne blitt plassert på samme sted og hadde samme A4 størrelse, ville jeg prøve å arbeide med forskjellige størrelser. For den tredje plakaten ville jeg vise at man kunne finne folk og grupper med samme interesser som deg. Jeg brukte slagordet “are you interested in movies but have no one to talk with? Discord got you covered!”, og jeg brukte et bilde som viser flere film-grupper man kan bli med i. Først prøvde jeg å lage en diagonal linje der den ene siden var blå og den andre var bildet, men jeg syntes at overgangen var for skarp og kjedelig. Derfor gjorde jeg overgangen bølgete som jeg syntes skapte en mykere og en mer interessant overgang. Denne posteren kunne ha vært inne i en trikk eller et tog. Ved å lage denne plakaten lærte jeg mer om hvordan man kan bruke Photoshop. Det var første gang jeg hadde laget rette linjer og kurver, og det lærte jeg mye av. Jeg har ikke en skisse for denne plakaten, siden jeg begynte å “skisse” i Photoshop og endte opp med et design jeg likte.

Til den siste reklamen ville jeg lage noe som kunne ha blitt lagt ut på instagram. Mange av reklamene på instagram er ganske enkle siden det ikke er så mye plass, men jeg gjorde mye research for å prøve å finne inspirasjon. Jeg hadde ganske mye problemer med å finne et design jeg likte. Jeg prøvde å skisse i Photoshop, men endte opp med å ikke bruke skissen.

Jeg så på reklamer for Discord, og mange av dem hadde tegninger av forskjellige medier (mobil, pc, spillkonsoll, nettbrett). Da fikk jeg en idé, og fant et bilde av noen medier som jeg klippet ut i Photoshop. Jeg plasserte så alle bildene på en blå bakgrunn. Jeg prøvde ut forskjellige måter å plassere de på. Jeg likte idéen med diagonale linjer, så jeg prøvde å fylle ut den ene halvdelen med bildene og ha teksten og logoen på den andre halvdelen. Jeg likte hvordan det så ut, og justerte litt på lys og kontrast for å få den fargen jeg ønsket. Jeg hadde ikke veldig mye tid når jeg jobbet med denne plakaten, og derfor måtte jeg finne bilder på nettet. Hvis jeg hadde hadd mer tid hadde jeg prøvd å tegne bildene selv. Dette kan jeg tenke på til neste prosjekt, der jeg må distribuere mer tid til arbeidet. Jeg har heller ikke en skisse for denne plakaten, siden jeg “skisset” og prøvde meg fram i Photoshop. Det er også noe jeg kan tenke på til neste prosjekt, jeg burde prøve å lage skisser før jeg starter på et prosjekt. Men jeg syntes det egentlig gikk fint uten skisser, fordi jeg kom fram til sluttresultatet ved å prøve og feile.

Jeg syntes at jeg jobbet bra med prosjektet og fikk produsert bra plakater. Noe som ikke fungerte så bra var at jeg fikk veldig lite tid på den siste plakaten, og jeg hadde ingen skisser å gå ut ifra. Det var også vanskelig å få tatt bilde til plakat 1 og 2 fordi ingen av vennene mine var online på samme tid, så det måtte utsettes mange dager før jeg fikk tatt bildene. Plakatene var ikke så veldig teknisk avanserte, men jeg lærte fremdeles noe nytt med linjer, kurver, skygger og glød.
