>>>>>>>>> “I NEED REMOTE!!” <<<<<<<<
>>>>> Cracking the Code of Hiring the Remoters <<<<
As a GenXr and an OG in the realm of hiring staff, I have conducted countless interviews throughout my years. I’m actually a big fan and proponent of the structured interview process. It was nothing like meeting a jobseeker face-to-face, shaking hands and having a one-on-one conversation. “Oh, how I miss those days of Ole”. However, I am also a techie, and I also love to work independently as well, so all I need is my work task instructions, my computer, and my quiet office space, and I usually surpass the required work expectations. In today’s blog, we will dive into the world of Remote Work and discuss cracking the code of using Testing and Non-Testing Predictors in the hiring process of remote staff. So, Let’s Talk About It….
Remote Hiring:
In today’s digital age, hiring employees for remote roles demands a nuanced approach, combining both testing and non-testing predictors to identify top talent. Remote work requires unique skill sets such as self-discipline, communication, and technological proficiency. Therefore, the selection process must be meticulously designed to evaluate these competencies effectively.
Here are some of the Testing Predictors:
Ability Tests: Cognitive ability tests can be beneficial for remote roles in assessing an applicant’s problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and adaptability—attributes essential for autonomous work environments. ⁵
Personality Questionnaires: For remote positions, traits like conscientiousness, self-motivation, and emotional stability are paramount. These questionnaires can help discern whether a candidate possesses the drive and resilience needed to thrive outside a traditional office setting. ³
Simulation Exercises: These exercises can mimic real-world tasks, providing insight into an applicant’s ability to manage deadlines, communicate effectively, and utilize digital tools. ⁴
Non-Testing Predictors:
Structured Interviews: Virtual interviews can evaluate communication skills, cultural fit, and the ability to articulate thoughts clearly, which is crucial for remote collaboration. ¹
Biodata and References: Reviewing a candidate’s past experiences, achievements, and feedback from previous employers can provide a comprehensive picture of their suitability for remote work. ²
Integrating a blend of testing and non-testing predictors is the cracked code for successful remote hiring. Ability tests and personality questionnaires offer objective insights into a candidate’s potential, while interviews, biodata, and references provide context and depth. By leveraging these tools, organizations can select candidates who are skilled and well-suited for the unique demands of remote work. Thanks for sticking with me, stay tuned for next week’s blog news, we have a lot more to get into….because this I/O Psych Journey Continues….

MOBOT Mark II by Dr. John W. Clark (1964), head of the Mobot group and manager of the Nuclear Electronics Laboratory at the Hughes Aircraft Corporation. Here we see the Hughes Mark II Mobot remote handling system designed for use in nuclear hot cells, in a photo-shoot with Miss Santa Monica of 1958, Colleen Adams. “The electronic technology available today can quite readily extend the length of the nervous system to any desired distance. The muscular system can be replaced by electronically controlled actuators (these may be hydraulic, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, or some combination of these). The sensory system can be extended by means of electronic transducers and data links. In other words, the intelligence can be separated by any desired distance from the physical work which it is directing and performing by appropriate use of well-proven electronic technology. This is one way of stating the philosophy which guides one in the design of such systems.” J.W. Clark, UNMANNED GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT.

Ten Sleep Cemetery - Est. 1890
The Ten Sleep Cemetery probably had its beginnings as a boot hill.
Boothill: a burial space, especially in western United States, is mainly applicable to the violent deaths of gunfighters or others who may have ‘died with their boots on’. It appears that M.E. Casshire was the first to be buried on the hill in 1890 and the strange thing about this burial and the original cemetery is that no other burials were made there until 1901. Ten Sleep was then in Big Horn County and various small cemeteries may have been used such as Hyattville, Bonanza and Basin.
Actual Cemetery: David R and Adele Moses – donated land for the cemetery proper in 1900. It is safe to say that there had been no burials in the newly donated cemetery site before David Moses himself was killed and laid to rest inside the perimeters of the land he had given to the community. A First Addition to the cemetery land was in (1978-80) by Fae Moses Broadstreet. The Cemetery Board bought this addition from her. The Second Addition was a sale from Don Decker 2002-2003.
Veterans of the Civil War Oscar Austin, Henry Bell and Tuck Keaton are buried in the Ten Sleep Cemetery (see Vanguards of the Valley, 1987, by Faye V. Bell, p. 105.) Tuck, by his own admission , was a member of member of William Quantrill’s guerilla band during the war.
A number of WW I veterans—Marion Ainsworth, Hugh Boyd, Orin Cunningham, George Ferguson, Homer Dent, Earl Glanville, Bruce Lynch, Boyd C. Mills, Arthur R. Moses, George Dewey Moses, Mabry Moses, Millard F. Moses, Emil Pascal, William Prevo, Homer G Renner and Arnold Waln are buried there. Innumerable men of WW II are buried in this cemetery. The small community saw 7 men die in WW II, one (Clinton McLaughlin) in the Korean conflict and one (Sammy Dellos) in the Vietnam War.
Rites and Services over the years: On Memorial Day and occasionally on Veteran’s Day, the American Legion, the Floyd Minch Post 44, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) have, and still do, commemorate those who served in the military. Veterans from Worland and Ten Sleep combine to do rites such as a single bugle sounding over the cemetery and echoing over the valley. “Taps” is played by a former army bugler and a certain reading is done to commemorate their wartime service. This ceremony includes the ‘firing’ of six rifles over a veteran’s grave. In addition, for many years, Fae Moses Broadstreet recited the poem, “In Flanders Fields” written by Lt. Col. J. McCrae after WW I. This tradition continues to the present day. When veterans of the wars were, and are, buried, there is another singular rite, as the one described, to remember their selfless service. It is planned and carried out by the same two organizations.
The monument to WW II veterans (Dec. 7, 1941- August 1945): The monument was purchased, inscribed and mounted sometime after the end of WW II. This was a Girl Scout endeavor under Fae Moses’s leadership. The list of men lost in WW II is as follows: James Morgaridge (on ship Arizona Pearl Harbor 1941); Lyle Williams, (flying from England) 1942; Louis Rosetti, 1943; Marvin Waln, (stateside crash) (1944); Lester Daugherty (U.S. Navy Pacific theatre, 1944); P. Merton LaRose (Pacific theatre) 1944; Charles Rhodes (Stateside airplane disaster 1944; Parker Boyle (Normandy) 1944. (See view of WW II monument, Registry page).
Childhood Memory: In 1945 Fae and Millard Moses (my parents) had taken on a project to make markers for unmarked graves of persons interred in the Ten Sleep cemetery. Millard cut the 12x12 inch squares of tin, Fae penciled in the name, then used a nail and hammer to etch the name in, painted the tins white and the names in black. She was working on James Allen when Millard told her that was ‘Fatty Allen’. Since then, the markers were replaced with smaller bronze and steel furnished by Veile Mortuary of Worland.
First Washakie County Church On March 14, 1901, Rev C.C. Thompson, Rev E.E. Tarbill, Mortimer Lewis, J.W. Carpenter, Kate Lynch and Mark Warner signed papers incorporating the Methodist Church of Ten Sleep and accepted land for a church building and cemetery from David Moses.
The community raised $600, supplementing the $300 given by the Methodist Church Extension Society of Philadelphia. The building was started in 1901 by volunteer labor with lumber donated by Milo Burke, was completed in 1904 and dedicated on January 8, 1905. Each assisting family was given a lot in the cemetery, where the pioneers rest. In 1925, the Church was moved from the cemetery to the corner of Cottonwood Street and Highway 16 in Ten Sleep. The Annex was added in 1952. In 1975, the building was moved once again to its present location at the Circle-J Methodist youth camp on Highway 16. The present day Ten Sleep Methodist Church is across the street from the Cemetery.

This third volume contains twenty tales, most of them never before reprinted. They represent a mix of the diverse styles and themes common to Victorian ghost fiction and include works by once-popular authors like Ellen Wood and Charlotte Riddell as well as contributions from anonymous or wholly forgotten writers. This volume also features a new introduction by Prof. Simon Stern.

Executed for $1.00: The Unfortunate Fate of Hugh Dowdall
By: Lisa Timmerman, Executive Director
“Therefore it is considered by the court that he be hanged by the neck until he be dead…” The Commonwealth of Virginia condemned the “labourer” Hugh Dowdall to death in “for feloniously uttering and passing in payment in a counterfeit dollar, knowing the same to be counterfeit and base...” Unfortunately for Dowdall, the Dumfries District Court and General Court felt the sentence was appropriate and set his hanging for 06/29/1792 between the hours of ten in the morning and two in the afternoon. Hugh Dowdall, James Ewell, Bertrand Ewell, Jr., and a group of 21 citizens petitioned Governor Henry Lee III asking him to reconsider due to contradictions in testimony and suffering already endured. But surely the Governor would relent considering it was allegedly only a dollar?
(Lee Lansing identified this as the South Courthouse Lot in Dumfries, ca. 1863 drawing an image similar to this photograph with only the structures)
Counterfeit money was a constant and annoying problem for early Americans. Coins, paper money, and bills of credit all circulated throughout the colonies with different foreign origins. In 1645, officials in Virginia attempted to foil counterfeit money by requiring a new design “a new impression which shall be stamped yearly with some new figure” adding the death penalty on conviction. Virginia issued paper money (more like bills of credit at first) in 1755, which created even more confusion as the different forms of money were not equivalent in actual value. While the United States Continental Congress authorized the printing of national currency at the start of the Revolutionary War, England potentially ramped up production of counterfeit bills to cause inflation. Although the country struggled after the war to pay back the French loans, taxation in the 1790s under the U.S. Constitution helped stabilize the country. Enter Hugh Dowdall.
According to Dumfries District Court, Dowdall violated the 05/1776 ordinance, “An ordinance making it felony to counterfeit the continental paper currency, and for other purposes therein mentioned.” Dowdall argued against the ordinance noting, “said ordinance was passed subsequent to the formation, and passing of the bill of rights…”, and “Because the said convention were not delegated, authorized and empowered by the good citizens of this commonwealth to legislate generally for them; more especially, to make penal laws to affect the lives of the citizens of this commonwealth”. Judges of the General Court, Prentis, Tyler, Henry, and Roane disagreed and overruled the plea.
As the execution approached, Dowdall and others petitioned directly to the Governor for pardons. Dowdall wrote, “Your petitioner is now confined those nine months for only passing one bad dollar, and has suffered a great deal this last winter with forty weight of Iron, and without the benefit of fire, and am destitute in those parts of any friends or acquaintances, but some thousands of miles from home only a poor helpless wife that is now lying some place or other on the road..” James Ewell questioned the testimony of the “peddler” Fitzsimmons but also argued Dowdall had already endured a harsh sentence, “To indure for several months the ignomy & perturbation of mind consequent of his condemnation; to be robed of his all by the perfidy of his friend, & to be chained almost in one position to a cold floor during the severity of the last winter must exceed the torture of a thous’d deaths.” The petition from the citizens stated, “..and whereas the evidence produced upon the trial of the s’d Dowdell was not in the opinion of your petitioners of that high dignity & absolute certainty which it ought to be, in order to deprive a fellow-creature of his present existence, being only a presumption of guilt; and whereas your petitioners know & are well assured that his sufferings have been very great during the inclemency of the late winter which has intervened since his confinement – all which circumstances being taken into consideration by your petitioners, they therefore humbly pray pardon…”
Hugh Dowdell was executed on 07/06/1792 for the felony of coining.

The Grapplers Main Event: The debut of BJJ transition AJ Agazarm
The Grapplers Main Event: The debut of BJJ transition AJ Agazarm - https://mmauk.net/2019/01/26/the-grapplers-main-event-the-debut-of-bjj-transition-aj-agazarm/
The Grapplers Main Event: The debut of BJJ transition AJ Agazarm
With the debut of Jake Hager (better known perhaps by his WWE performance name Jack Swagger) has a highly anticipated debut in MMA tonight at Bellator 214 against J.W. Kiser. As well as this there is also a lot of focus on the development of MMA prodigy Aaron Pico in his match against legitimate threat Henry Corrales, who has actually fought former Bellator Featherweight Champion Daniel Straus as well as current Bellator Featherweight Champion Patricio Freire. The main event sees the final of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix to determine who the new champion is between Fedor Emelianenko trying to claim another title for his hefty legacy and Ryan Bader, looking to be the Champ Champ of Bellator. However, on the prelims of this card, there is a big fight that is hidden from the main card, that bout focuses on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu star AJ Agazarm fighting in his professional MMA debut against
AJ Agazarm has competed twice in amateur MMA, winning both in the first round, one via submission and one via (T)KO, however, this bout tonight takes place in a world where he is now more accomplished in his grappling credentials. What makes AJ Agazarm’s MMA focus interesting is that unlike a lot of people representing their sport, the majority of BJJ enthusiasts want to see AJ lose, the reason for this is because of his outspoken personality. Never one to shy away from the microphone or the camera, he has always spoken his mind even if it has meant being kicked off a stage by Vagner Rocha or slapped by Jake Shields. Due to his polarising stance in the grappling world, it is difficult exactly to tell if the majority of grapplers are wanting him to win or lose.
AJ Agazarm has had a successful run in his previous runs in sport, winning the prestigious IBJJF World No-Gi Championship in 2014 and Silver in 2017, IBJJF Pan American No-Gi Championship in 2013, IBJJF Brazilian National No-Gi Championship in 2013 as well as the being IBJJF European No-Gi Champion on three separate occasions. He also found regular success in the belts prior to his black belt accomplishment, one of his biggest successes was earning a Silver medal at the ADCC Championship 2017, the most prestigious Submission Grappling competition in the world, having had successful competitors focus on MMA later such as Davi Ramos, Gilbert Burns, Fabricio Werdum, Rani Yahya, Jacare Souza, Tito Ortiz, Mark Kerr, Matt Hughes, Uriah Faber, Chris Weidman, Georges St. Pierre, Jake Shields, Demian Maia, Roger Gracie and many more great grapplers have competed at this competition.
AJ Agazarm has found himself opposite many MMA stars in grappling competitions, in losing efforts to Gilbert Burns, Davi Ramos (both have victories over each other) and former WEC and UFC Champion Benson Henderson, having a victory over MMA veteran Phil Baroni as well as a Draw and ongoing rivalry with MMA legend Jake Shields. Agazarm has also fought BJJ crossovers Garry Tonon and Dillon Danis in losing efforts to both men, Agazarm even almost had a high profile grappling match against the multiple time NCAA Champion, Olympian and MMA giant that is Ben Askren at Polaris but the match never materialised.
What makes the transition of AJ Agazarm so interesting is because people often wonder how a BJJ fighter will perform when they cannot get their opponent to the mat, what makes AJ so interesting is that he is actually a former Division I wrestler for Ohio State, and although he never placed as an All-American, that is still a considerable feat to attach onto the success that he had in BJJ, meaning that not only does AJ Agazarm have the ability to dominate opponents on the mat, he also has the ability to get his opponents there, all that matters now is how he performs at Bellator 214 against Jesse Roberts (3-1 in amateur MMA). Only time can tell if he has a successful transition from the world of grappling, regardless if grappling fans are watching to see if he wins or loses, they will be watching.

Carolyn Bryant Donham, The White Woman Who Caused Emmett Till’s Murder Admits To Lying
More than six decades after the horrific, racially-motivated murder of Emmett Till, the White woman who accused the Chicago teenager of verbally and physically accosting her in Money, Miss., in 1955, has admitted she lied, according to a new book.
Till had allegedly whistled at and groped Carolyn Bryant, a 21-year-old White woman, while at a country store in the small town.
After the encounter, Roy Bryant, Carolyn’s husband, and J.W. Milam tracked young Emmett down, kidnapped him, tortured him, shot him, and then tied his battered body to a cotton gin fan using barbed wire and dumped him in the muddy Tallahatchie River. Later, the two men were acquitted of the murder by an all-White, all-male jury after an hour’s deliberation. Till’s brutal killing and photos of his open casket at his funeral helped spark the Civil Rights Movement.
During the trial, Carolyn Bryant testified that Emmett, who was 14, had made physical and verbal advances toward her, a sensational claim that increased tensions surrounding the case. She testified that Emmett had grabbed and threatened her inside the store – and that he had used an “unprintable” word when he told her he had been intimate “with White women before.”
But according to a 2007 interview, newly revealed in the book, “The Blood of Emmett Till,” Carolyn Bryant admits that it never happened.
“That part’s not true,” she told writer Timothy Tyson, according to “Vanity Fair,” though she claimed she could not recall what happened the rest of the evening at her husband’s country store, where Emmett stopped by briefly on Aug. 24, 1955, to buy two cents worth of gum.
Till was shot in the head and was found with barbed wire wrapped around his neck; one of his eyes was gouged out.
“Nothing that boy did could ever justify what happened to him,” she is quoted as saying.
Bryant’s testimony was out of the earshot of the jury, but helped to frame the case publicly.
“I was just scared to death,” she said in court.
The two killers later admitted their guilt, after their acquittals.
Emmett Till’s murder became the flashpoint in the American Civil Rights Movement. Mamie Till-Mobley, Emmett’s mother, had even insisted on an open casket at his funeral, leading to photographs of his battered corpse being spread across the country, which helped focus public attention on what was happening in the heart of the country.
In 2004, the FBI reopened the case to see if any accomplices could be hauled to court, but a grand jury decided three years later that there was insufficient evidence to pursue charges.
The young Carolyn Bryant went into hiding after the murder trial — divorcing and marrying twice more — and remained mum on the case until she gave the interview with Tyson, the “New York Post” reported.
Bryant is now known as Carolyn Bryant Donham. Donham told Tyson that she “felt tender sorrow” for Emmett’s mother, who died in 2003, but Tyson doesn’t mention if Donham expressed guilt or apologized.
Civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks has said she thought about Emmett when she refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Ala., a few months after his death.
The shocking crime was memorialized in the arts and literature; in Nobel laureate Toni Morrison’s play “Dreaming Emmett,” a Langston Hughes poem, and a song by Bob Dylan.
The whereabouts of the now-82-year-old liar Carolyn Bryant Donham are unknown.

Latest facts and a rumor from the Marcellus, Utica, Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken and Niobrara Shale Plays
Williams Seeks Final Approval for Atlantic Sunrise. Williams Companies, Inc. recently reported the completion of construction of its major Atlantic Sunrise project. The production and pipeline operator has requested for the final approval of the project by Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Importantly, the Atlantic Sunrise natural gas pipeline, worth $3 billion, is an expansion of the company's Transco pipeline, which is the largest-volume natural gas transmission system in the United States. Atlantic Sunrise will have a transportation capacity of around 1.7 billion cubic feet of gas per day (Bcf/d). It will transport Marcellus shale gas from Pennsylvania to the rest of the country. The project design includes 200 miles of new greenfield pipe, two compressor facilities in Pennsylvania along with other compressor station modifications in five states. Notably, Atlantic Sunrise had received a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity from the FERC in February 2017 amid opposition from green campaigners, as the opponents of the pipeline could not gather satisfactory facts. The court ruled that the implementation of the measures proposed by FERC and the company will reduce environmental hazards to significant levels and greenlighted it to proceed with the construction. The company expects the pipeline to add value to its existing energy infrastructure, which will provide it with a steady flow of revenues in the future. This will also help citizens by providing them access to an affordable and clean energy source, as well as contribute to the economic growth of the country. Nexus Seeks FERC Approval. The Nexus natural gas pipeline is seeking approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to begin service on Sept. 28, Kallanish Energy reports It wants to begin moving 967 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and will eventually move 1.5 billion cubic feet per day across northern Ohio. Nexus Gas Transmission made its request on Monday. It wants FERC approval by Sept. 26 so that service could begin on Sept. 28. The $2.6 billion natural gas pipeline will move Utica and Marcellus natural gas across northern Ohio to the Midwest, the Gulf Coast and Ontario. The 256-mile pipeline across northern Ohio to Michigan and Ontario will transport natural gas from Ohio, West Virginia and western Pennsylvania. It is being developed by Michigan-based DTE Energy and Enbridge. The company had reported in late July that the project was 80% complete. E&P Companies on Spending Spree. Oil and gas producers are nearing a worldwide spending spree not seen since 2013, pointing to a potential windfall for oilfield services (OFS) companies, Morgan Stanley forecasts. The bank believes global growth in capital spending on new oil and gas production — that will last for several years -- is just over the horizon, CNBC reported. Morgan Stanley believes 2020 will be a year of synchronized growth in capital expenditures, and oilfield service firms will be one of the biggest beneficiaries. This comes after oil giants and independent producers slashed spending in 2015 and 2016 during a historic downturn in crude prices, CNBC reported. The recovery has been relatively isolated to U.S. shale plays and a few international markets, but Morgan Stanley sees the rebound extending to many more parts of the world, Kallanish Energy understands. "Importantly, 2020 looks to be the first year the industry will experience material, synchronized capex growth since before the downturn," Morgan Stanley analysts wrote, in a research note. After rising just 5% from the trough in 2016, capital spending is poised to increase by roughly 15% through 2020, Morgan Stanley states. In 2022, expenditures on finding and developing new oil and gas assets will raise by roughly 30% from this year, to roughly $583 billion, the bank forecasts. Morgan Stanley analysts believe Wall Street is underestimating the growth potential in three key areas, CNBC reported. The market currently sees European oil majors like Royal Dutch Shell and Total holding capital spending roughly flat at roughly $80 billion in 2021. But Morgan Stanley believes these energy giants will actually increase spending to about $100 billion, or 25% above consensus. The bank also thinks its peers underappreciate spending in the U.S. The independent producers in the country’s various shale plays have pledged to return more cash to shareholders. However, Morgan Stanley thinks capital spending will still jump by more than 15% in 2020, once producers in Texas and New Mexico's Permian Basin overcome bottlenecks currently constraining output. "We do not think U.S.-focused service stocks are discounting the substantial activity increase and margin expansion this is likely to lead to," the bank's analysts said. Morgan Stanley believes growing Chinese demand for liquefied natural gas will mean supply and demand will balance between 2020 and 2021. Currently, the broader market sees oversupply lasting through 2023-2024, according to the bank. Permian Problems Good for the Eagle Ford. The Permian Basin, rich in oil, but plagued by labor, housing and pipeline shortages, may be losing some of its luster as energy companies look to other shale plays where costs are lower, markets are closer and hassles are fewer. That description seems to fit the Eagle Ford shale in South Texas, where both investment and drilling activity is picking up. As the Permian has boomed over past years, the Eagle Ford has climbed slowly from the oil bust. But signs point to the pace picking up as the Eagle Ford emerges as an alternative to oil and gas producers looking to get away from Permian crowds. Production from the oilfield has rebounded from a low of 1.1 million barrels of oil a day in August 2017 to a projected 1.5 million barrels a day in October — second only to the Permian, according to the Energy Department. The number of operating drilling rigs in the Eagle Ford has more than doubled to 78 from the 2016 low of 33, according to the Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes. The value of mergers and acquisitions in the Eagle Ford Eagle has already hit $15 billion this year, second to the Permian’s $45 billion, but well ahead of the $9 billion in SCOOP and STACK fields of Oklahoma and the $5 billion in the Bakken oil field of North Dakota, according to Canadian financial services company Scotiabank. . Subash Chandra, a managing director at Guggenheim Partners, a New York investment firm, said the Eagle Ford’s key advantage is that it is far closer to Gulf Coast refiners and export hubs, particularly the Port of Corpus Christi, than the Permian in West Texas. “The Eagle Ford is unique, with proximity to markets,” Chandra said presented at the DUG Eagle Ford conference in San Antonio Thursday. “The Permian is the surface of Mars.” The Permian remains the hottest shale play in the world, producing some 3.5 million barrels of oil a day and accounting for nearly one-third of U.S. crude output. But that success has outstripped many of the resources in West Texas, particularly pipelines. While several companies are racing to complete pipeline projects, the capacity shortage is expected to last into next year. As a result, producers are discounting their oil in Midland because they can't easily ship it to Gulf Coast markets. In August and September, crude in Midland was selling for $20 a barrel less than along the Gulf Coast, according to the Energy Department. Oil and gas companies, meanwhile, are beginning to redirect spending outside of the Permian, the Energy Department said in a report released Wednesday. So are services companies. Paul Shearer, director of sales for Superior Silica Sand of Fort Worth, said the relative calm in the Eagle Ford was among the reasons the company developed a 4-million-ton-a-year frac sand mine south of San Antonio to focus on the Eagle Ford. TX Shale Replacing Iranian Oil. Falling Iranian oil exports from U.S. sanctions open the door for U.S. oil and gas producers to fill a void in Asia for a niche oil market. Texas shale is beginning to produce more ultra-light condensate oil and there's growing demand in Asia, said Sandy Fielden, director of oil and products research at Morningstar, in a new report this week. Iran has served as a major source for condensate in Asia. About half of all U.S. condensate production comes from Texas, especially South Texas' Eagle Ford shale and West Texas' booming Permian Basin. "Regardless of how much Iranian condensate remains available for export, the current tight conditions represent an opportunity for U.S. producers to gain valuable market share," Fielden argued. BP Betting on TX. Nearly a decade after Deepwater Horizon, BP is ready to grow again, betting much of its comeback on Texas after completing the biggest energy deal in the world this year. Its pending acquisition of the U.S. shale assets of the Australian mining company BHP Billiton for $10.5 billion puts BP in the Permian Basin in West Texas and the Eagle Ford shale in South Texas, and expands its presence in the Haynesville shale in East Texas, positioning itself to compete for the spot as the biggest producer in the United States. If the acquisition pays off, it would likely mean additional growth in Houston, where BP’s U.S. subsidiary is headquartered and the company employs about 4,500 people. TX Shale Oil to Make Big Gains. A new report shows that West Texas’ Permian Basin will continue to post the biggest oil production gains of any U.S. shale field in October. The report by the Department of Energy predicts the Permian will add 31,000 barrels of production in October, bringing overall production close to 3.5 million barrels a day. The Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas is expected to add 16,000 barrels a day of oil production, bringing its production — the second highest in the country — closer to 1.5 million barrels a day. The production gains in the Permian come despite tightening pipeline capacity, which is said to have fallen below production. Low E&P Debt. More Drilling? A new review by the Department of Energy shows that debt levels in the energy industry are at their lowest levels since the third quarter of 2014. The financial review of the global oil and gas industry for the second quarter of 2018 ending June 30 found that companies had reduced their debt for seven consecutive quarters, leading to the lowest long-term debt-to-equity ratio since the third quarter of 2014, which was right before oil prices began to plummet. Debt was reduced by more than $20 billion in the second quarter, while the long-term debt-to-equity ratio was 41 percent, according to data from the Energy Department. The Energy Department report reviewed 107 oil and gas companies of which 76 were U.S.-based, 13 in Canada, nine in Europe and another nine in other areas. More than half had production of less than 100,000 barrels of petroleum liquids a day. Among the companies included are Apache Corp., Devon Energy, ExxonMobil, and Royal Dutch Shell. FERC Approves Atlantic Coast Pipeline Construction. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has lifted a stop work order on the Atlantic Coast natural gas pipeline, Kallanish Energy reports. That action came Monday in a two-page letter to Atlantic Coast Pipeline LLC and Dominion Energy Transmission. FERC said it had received updated filings from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and from the National Park Service. On Aug. 10, FERC had halted construction on the $6.5 billion pipeline after a federal appeals court had vacated two permits for the project. Construction has started in West Virginia and North Carolina, but has not yet started in Virginia. That action came from the Richmond, Virginia-based Fourth U.S. Circuit of Appeals. The court ruled two permits for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline were invalid: a permit from the National Park Service to run the pipeline under the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia between Augusta and Nelson counties, and a second permit allowing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to allow the “incidental taking” or killing of five endangered species when no other options exist along the pipeline route. Construction was able to continue in areas not impacted by the permitting questions. The 600-mile pipeline is designed to move natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica shales through West Virginia and Virginia to the Carolinas. It would move 1.5 billion cubic feet per day. It is being developed by Dominion, Duke Energy, Piedmont Natural Gas and Southern Company Gas. Work is under way in West Virginia and North Carolina, but an erosion permit is still needed in Virginia before construction can begin. The appeals court has scheduled a Sept. 28 hearing on the Virginia erosion issue. The project is expected to be completed in late 2019. New Senior Exec at Blue Mountain Resources. Blue Ridge Mountain Resources has a new high-ranking executive, Kallanish Energy reports. Michael Hodges became senior vice president of finance, effective on Sept. 19. He will become executive vice president and chief financial officer after the merger of Blue Ridge Mountain Resources and Eclipse Resources is completed. That is expected to be in the fourth quarter 2018, subject to regulatory approvals. Hodges will replace Matthew DeNezza, Eclipse’s executive vice president and chief financial officer. DeNezza will remain with Eclipse and aid Hodges in the transition until the close of the merger. Hodges previously worked at PayRock Energy II, an EnCap portfolio company. It was focused on the Eagle Ford Shale in South Texas. He has also worked for Ward Energy Partners, Rex Energy, Chesapeake Energy and SandRidge Energy. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree from Oklahoma City University. He is a certified public accountant. “Michael brings with him significant industry experience and an excellent track record of leading finance functions in the upstream energy sector while possessing executive-level experience at both public and private energy companies,” said John Reinhart, president and CEO of Blue Ridge, in a statement. Reinhart will lead the merged companies. Blue Ridge, with offices in Irving, Texas, is active in the Marcellus and Utica shales in the Appalachian Basin. Eclipse Resources is based in State College, Pennsylvania, and is active in the Appalachian Basin. Shale economy big plus for Ohio: Drew $64 billion in investment in seven years, led to 100,000 paychecks. Energy growth triggers company expansions, community improvements “When it comes to energy, no region, not even the Gulf, can compete with Ohio,” said Dana Saucier Jr., senior managing director of energy and chemicals at JobsOhio. Why do artists collaborate with fashion designers?
Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali, Yves Saint Laurent and Piet Mondrian – fashion designers have embraced the world of art to create some of their best and most lasting work. Today, the tradition carries on, stronger than ever. So what’s in it for artists? As Frieze London kicks off, Vogue investigates.

Virgil Abloh debuted his Spring/Summer 2018 menswear collection at Pitti Uomo earlier this year against the backdrop of a Jenny Holzer installation. For the show, Holzer – the American neo-conceptualist renowned for her large-scale installations in public spaces – projected lines of poetry from Anna Świrszczyńska, written during the Warsaw Uprising, alongside texts by writers of Middle Eastern origins, including Syrian-American writer Osama Alomar, behind the runway. The collaboration, the latest in a series of high-profile partnerships between fashion designers and fine artists, was hailed as a poignant reflection on current events – an example of how fashion can reflect the emotions of the world in which it inhabits.
But for every Off-White x Jenny Holzer, there are dozens of artist-designer collaborations where artworks are merely xeroxed onto garments, only to be forgotten at the end of the season. “I always think that designers have fetishised artists,” Esben Weile Kjaer, a Danish artist who has collaborated with the designer Anne Sofie Madsen, tells Vogue. Kjaer’s assessment is likely correct. But for the artist, who operates in the lofty realm of galleries and exhibitions as opposed to the rails of boutique stores and down catwalks, why accept the invitation to collaborate at all?
The obvious answer is, of course, that partnerships like these often allow artists to create and exhibit their work on a greater scale than before. In the past two seasons, Moncler and photographer Annie Leibovitz invited Chinese performance artist Liu Bolin – known in the art world as the Invisible Man for his chameleon-like acts – to create the brand’s imagery, where Liu disappears into the glaciers through body painting. It is one of the most memorable campaigns in recent memory. “I am very particular about who I collaborate with, and I was intrigued by the epic quality of this project, and I’ve always imagined doing a project in such an intense landscape and backdrop, as in Iceland,” says Liu, whose performances double as environmentalist commentary.
But beyond the support that brands provide, the rise of artist-designer collaborations is also perhaps indicative of a much broader shift in the worlds of art and fashion, where the boundaries between the two worlds are becoming increasingly porous. Designers are often heralded as artists, while artists are starting to dabble in design: Liu is an excellent case in point. “From Valentino and Jean Paul Gaultier to Guerlain and Ruinart, I have partnered with many fashion and luxury brands over the years…I’ve always been interested in fashion collaborations, especially at the brink of my newest project: the launch of my own fashion collection, Liu Bolin,” he reveals. Likewise, the artist Sterling Ruby, a longtime collaborator of Raf Simons’s across Dior and Calvin Klein, produces his own wardrobe, conceding little distinction between his artwork and his garments.
Nevertheless, some artists, including Christophe Chemin, who partnered with Prada for Autumn 2016, are becoming sceptical of the benefits of collaborations, which have become commonplace. “It became such a trend, even though the idea is absolutely not new,” says Chemin. “I think it should happen only if there is a genuine interest from both sides, and a real exchange… Fashion designers don’t really need artists to do great collections, and artists are not clothes enhancers.”
But what exactly constitutes a real exchange? While it might be hard to explain, Chemin cites The Ritva Man, a London-based knitwear brand from the ‘60s and ‘70s, as an example. Created by Ritva, a Finnish model and painter, and her husband Mike Ross, an American who briefly attended the Royal College of Art, the brand was embedded in the vibrant art scene of London during the period, inviting the likes of Elisabeth Frink, David Hockney, Patrick Hughes and Allen Jones to share designs for the brand’s limited-edition Artist Collection. The garments, sold with acrylic cases so that they could be displayed when not worn, were revered as pieces of art in their own right.
Although the Ritva brand is no more, some of its hallmarks have survived. There are surely parallels in the ongoing collaborations between designer Jonathan Anderson, creative director of J.W. Anderson and Loewe, and the artist and photographer Ian David Baker, who is known for his male nudes. Their partnership developed naturally out of patronage, and the respect the designer had for the artist.
“My work had a resurgence of interest around 2013 and 2014… I had a call from Jonathan who was interested in buying some photo images and drawings… Later in 2014, [Anderson] suggested a meeting at his offices for a collaboration project,” says Baker. “I think he was a bit obsessed with my work. I mentioned that I hoped he thought it was all going to be worth the effort.”
Similarly, by regularly inviting artists to collaborate, Rochambeau designers Laurence Chandler and Josh Cooper are, much like the Rosses, inhabitants in the world they tap into. “I met Laurence of Rochambeau in 2013 at the opening of my Lincoln Center exhibition. He’s a collector and had bought some work of mine,” recalls Aaron Curry, who collaborated with the brand for their Spring 2018 collection. “I later met Josh, and without trying to sound too Californian, I really liked their energy,” says Curry, who likened the collaborative process to customising Vans sneakers during his youth.
In fashion, where clothes are subject to seasonal turnover, the collection with Curry, which features streetwear staples adorned with the artist’s psychedelic creations, possesses also that rare sense of permanence, not unlike the sweaters created by The Ritva Man nearly half a century ago earlier. In December, the collection will be displayed to the art world during Art Basel Miami Beach, where Curry is a regular fixture, alongside his other works. Only after will they appear on the sales floors of fashion boutiques around the world.

Page 103: —St. Peter’s Life. The chains of St. Peter. St. Peter’s Relics in the Cathedral of Burlington. Right Rev. Louis de Goesbriand was born August 4, 1816, in the province of Brittany, France. After a course of three years in the Seminary of ST. Sulpice, Paris, he was ordained priest by Bishop Rosate, July 13, 1840. In response to a call sent by the American Bishops to the Seminaries of Europe for volunteer priests, he came to the United States, and was assigned to the charge of Louisville, Ohio. He was subsequently Vicar General of the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio, and Rector of the Cleveland Cathedral until 1853, when, upon the erection of the Diocese of Burlington, Vt., he was chosen its first Bishop. He was consecrated as Bishop in the Cathedral of New York, Oct. 3, 1853, by Mgr. Bedini, Archbishop Hughes of New York preaching the sermon. He was installed by Bishop Fitzpatrick, of Boston, Nov. 6th, 1853. He has made various journeys to France, Ireland, Rome and the Holy Land; has obtained large funds for his church; procured and superintended the erection of the stately Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington; of St. Joseph’s Church, Burlington; of the Providence Orphan Asylum, and of other churches and hospitals in his dioceses. He has, by his Christian devotion and many virtues, won the respect and esteem of the people of Vermont of all denominations.

Printed at Worcester, Massachusetts, by Isaiah Thomas. MDCCLXXXVIII. 8vo. pp. 192. Known as the “Shay’s Rebellion.” Many of the first settlers in various sections of Vermont were refugees from the Shays party, and the authorities and people of Vermont being favorable to immigration, the Shays men who came within her borders with a view of settlement, were never seriously disturbed. Mr. Minot says: “Those decisive measures by the authorities of New York, obliged the malcontents to flee out of the State of New York, and to betake themselves to their last resort in Vermont.” Governor Chittenden, however, in obedience to a bar majority of the General Assembly, but in opposition to his own views, issued a proclamation on the subject as a matter of courtesy perhaps to the Governor of Massachusetts; for Vermont being an independent State, and not a member of the Confederation of States, was not bound by the articles of Confederation “binding themselves to assist each other against all force opposed to, or attacks upon them, or any of them,” etc. And there was no extradition treaty existing between Vermont and any of the other States.
