Pam Sorenson and Kaitlin Young fight for vacant featherweight title at Invicta FC 36
Tumblr media
Invicta Fighting Championships today announced that Pam “Bam” Sorenson (7-3) and “The Striking Viking” Kaitlin Young (10-9-1) will battle for the promotion’s featherweight championship. The title tilt headlines a nine-fight Invicta FC 36 card, taking place in Kansas City, Kan. on Friday, Aug. 9.
Sorensen was last in action at Invicta FC 32, taking on former featherweight champion Felicia Spencer. Sorensen suffered defeat at the time but gets another crack at Invicta gold after Spencer signed with the UFC and vacated her title earlier this year.
A 12-year veteran of the sport, Young left the cage in 2014 and served as Invicta FC matchmaker before returning to competition last year. Since August, the MMA pioneer has experienced a career resurgence, reeling off three straight wins, including back-to-back stoppages.
Former strawweight title challenger Janaisa “Evil Princess” Morandin (10-2) returns to action in the Invicta FC 36 co-main event, welcoming newcomer Emily “Gordinha” Ducote (7-5) to the organization’s 115-pound division.
Also featured at Invicta FC 36:
Twenty-five-year-old atomweight prospects square off as Jessica Delboni (8-1) meets Lindsey “Damsel” VanZandt (6-1), who is coming off a win over Japanese kickboxing star Rena Kubota
UFC veteran Kailin Curran (6-7) looks to follow up on her impressive Phoenix Rising Series outing against a strawweight opponent to be named
Undefeated wrestler Stephanie “Hold Fast” Geltmacher (4-0) vies with Victoria “Fury” Leonardo (5-1) at flyweight
Atomweight Alyse Anderson (4-1) attempts to hand Anastasia Nikolakakos (3-0) her first career defeat
Owner of the fastest knockout in Invicta history, Chantel “Killa” Coates (1-0) clashes with fellow flyweight Caitlin “Ginger” Sammons (1-0)
Recent signees Erin Harpe (1-0) and Auttumn Norton (0-0) battle at bantamweight
Bantamweights Megan “Killa” Cawley (0-0) and Julia Ottolino (0-0) will both make their professional debuts in the night’s opening bout

James Gallagher takes on Cal Ellenor in the main event at Bellator Dublin
James Gallagher takes on Cal Ellenor in the main event at Bellator Dublin - http://mmauk.net/2019/07/03/james-gallagher-takes-on-cal-ellenor-in-the-main-event-at-bellator-dublin/
James Gallagher takes on Cal Ellenor in the main event at Bellator Dublin
Bellator is set to return to 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on Friday, September 27, as Irish sensation James “The Strabanimal” Gallagher (9-1) looks to defend his home turf against Cal Ellenor (8-2) in the bantamweight main event of Bellator Dublin.
Tickets for Bellator Dublin go on sale to the general public Friday, July 5 at 9 a.m. BST, with a special pre-sale scheduled for Thursday, July 4 at 9 a.m. BST using code “SOCIAL” upon purchase. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.ie and Bellator.com, as well as the 3Arena box office.
James Gallagher is set for his highly anticipated return to Dublin on September 27, where he will look to continue his winning ways in 2019 after recently defeating Jeremiah Labiano in London last month. Hailing from Strabane, Ireland, the Straight Blast Gym (SBG)-product is undoubtedly one of the brightest young stars in the MMA world and is looking to notch his 10th career victory. Following a third-round finish over Anthony Taylor at Bellator 169 and a first-round submission win against Steven Graham at Bellator 217in February, “The Strabanimal” hopes to repeat the prior success that he has experienced inside Dublin’s 3Arena in front of the Irish faithful.
On the heels of a first-round submission win over Nathan Greyson in his promotional debut at Bellator Newcastle, England’s Cal Ellenor will return to the cage seeking his fourth win in five outings. Ellenor, who fights out of Sunderland, England and trains at TFT MMA, has competed all across the globe, but it is unlikely Cal “Pacino” has yet entered the cage in such hostile territory. Much like anyone who faces James Gallagher in Ireland, Ellenor will look to play the role of spoiler when he returns to action in September.
Updated Bellator Dublin Card:
Bantamweight Main Event: James Gallagher (9-1) vs. Cal Ellenor (8-2)

Underworld in the Spotlight
Underworld in the Spotlight - http://mmauk.net/2019/06/24/underworld-in-the-spotlight/
Underworld in the Spotlight
Tumblr media
Nowadays the idea of fight fixing makes little to no sense because of the apparent underground and decline of the Italian American crime syndicate in New York City and New Jersey. This is popularly demonstrated in the HBO series The Sopranos which documents the Mafia relations between New York and New Jersey, taking the perspective of the main character Tony Soprano, played by the late James Gandolfini. Throughout the show, they make numerous references towards the decline of the mob force, compared to how it is highlighted in movies such as The Godfather. Another movie that excellently highlights the power of the Mafia during the post-war era is the Martin Scorsese classic ‘Raging Bull’, which saw the legendary Robert De Niro nab his second Academy Award, it highlights the influence the Mafia had on fight fixing at the peak of their power surrounding some of the dives that Jake LaMotta had to take throughout his career in order to try and position himself in title contention.
One of the most famous cases of Mafia influence, which ironically nobody can confirm if fixed or not, but heavily speculated on is the rivalry between Primo Carnera and Jack Sharkey. The second fight between them saw Carnera stop Sharkey in the 6th round via Knockout, some speculate that it was a phantom punch, others believe that it looked legitimate. The problem surrounding this was that Carnera was always thought to be involved in fight fixing, even having his license to fight removed in some states such as California. The biggest question surrounding both men is that they were known to have connections with criminals, Owney Madden was photographed with Primo Carnera on occasion, Jack Sharkey was photographed with Al Capone, both of these gangsters need no introduction, but the investigations by police of fight fixing and the clear connections to criminal powerhouses leaves much for speculation. Carnera often argued that he never fixed a fight, this is commonly believed by a majority of people, as the belief is that if Carnera was involved in fixed fights then he wasn’t actually aware of the fights being fixed in advance. Sharkey also contested, stating that the fight was not fixed, his doubt around the legitimacy of the contest’s result was always disputed, even training partners, coaches and his own wife were sceptical, positive that he in fact through the fight on purpose. Unfortunately for us, we shall never have the true answer the legitimacy surrounding the title reign of ‘The Ampling Alp’ Primo Carnera.

Cian Cowley's return confirmed for BRAVE 24, in London
Cian Cowley's return confirmed for BRAVE 24, in London - http://mmauk.net/2019/06/23/cian-cowleys-return-confirmed-for-brave-24-in-london/
Cian Cowley's return confirmed for BRAVE 24, in London
Tumblr media
Lightweight Cian Cowley is the first official addition to BRAVE’s debut in London, set for July 25th. The exclusive event will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, inside the Copper Box Arena, and will feature the return of the SBG Ireland representative, who takes on promotional newcomer Maciej Gierzewski in the main card.
Cowley will look to rebound from his first BRAVE loss, at the hands of John Brewin, in a close decision back at BRAVE 22, in March of this year, in the Philippines. The defeat broke a two-win streak for the Irish striker, who started off his career with BRAVE CF beating Daniel Olejniczak and Hardeep Rai, both by technical knockout.
Cian is teammates with MMA superstar Conor McGregor and other standouts such as Dillon Danis and Gunnar Nelson and has an extensive background in muay thai and kickboxing. Before transitioning to professional MMA, “The Warrior” was a multiple-time national champion in muay thai and won a bronze medal at the IMMAF Amateur world championships in 2016.
Meanwhile,  Maciej will be making his BRAVE debut on the back of his last win, in May of this year, as he TKO’d Sergiusz Uzarek in the second-round in a local Polish promotion. “Magic Man” is from Poland, but fights out of IFS Northern Ireland.
BRAVE 24 is set to take the MMA world by storm with a luxurious, once-in-a-lifetime experience for the exclusive guests that will attend the event. Further news of the fight card and the event itself will be announced in the coming days.

Godfathered featuring Ring Of Combat fighter Frankie Perez
Tumblr media
A fighter often returns to the regional circuit after being shown the door by the big leagues. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will be introduced to an east coast godfather showing his foes the steep price that a journey to the UFC entails. A professional since June 2011 and representing Ricardo Almeida Jiu Jitsu, Frankie Perez owns an 11-4 record in 15 bouts as a professional comprised of six submissions, three decisions and two knockouts. Perez has spent the bulk of his professional tenure with Ring Of Combat and is also a four-fight veteran of the UFC. Perez has finished eight of his 11 professional wins.
In his MMA debut at Ring Of Combat 36, Perez submitted Andre Shuler via rear naked choke in the first round. He also defeated his next three opponents that saw wins over Allen Cozze and Ben Syers. Then at Ring Of Combat 43, Perez faced Alfred Walker and tapped him out via arm triangle choke in the second round. He also defeated Adam Townsend via unanimous decision at Ring Of Combat 45. Perez submitted his next two foes in Mike Santiago and Rafael Machado via rear naked choke in the first round at ROC 46 and ROC 47 respectively. For his lone outing with World Series Of Fighting at WSOF 13, he faced Tom Marcellino and defeated him via unanimous decision. In his second appearance with the UFC at UFN 74, Perez faced Sam Stout and defeated via TKO in round one to earn his second knockout win as a professional. It was also the only victory he would get during his tenure with the UFC.
Following his departure from the UFC, he returned to Ring Of Combat to face Jerome Mickle and went on to tap him out in the first round via rear naked choke. The win also earned Perez the sixth submission victory of his professional career. There is a steep price to pay if you do wrong by the godfather!

Bellator Returns To Dublin
Bellator Returns To Dublin - http://mmauk.net/2019/06/20/bellator-returns-to-dublin/
Bellator Returns To Dublin
BELLATOR MMA RETURNS TO DUBLIN
Event set to take place on Friday, September 27, at Dublin’s 3Arena.
Tickets will go on general sale on Friday, June 28
London, UK – Leading mixed martial arts promotion Bellator MMA has today announced its hugely anticipated return to Dublin, Ireland.
The event will take place on Friday, September 27, at the 3Arena and will be the fourth instalment of the Bellator European Fight Series.
Tickets to Bellator Dublin go on general sale Friday, June 28, at 9 a.m. BST and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.ie and Bellator.com, as well as the 3Arena box office.
Following a hugely successful sell-out event in March of this year, the promotion will return to the Emerald Isle for what is set to be another mouth-watering event, featuring a fight card stacked with Irish homegrown and international talent.
Bellator’s most recent trip to Dublin delivered one of the greatest nights in Irish MMA history and was watched by a sell-out crowd inside the 3Arena and thousands of fight fans around the world. In the main event 22-year old SBG Ireland prodigy James Gallagher defeated Steven Graham in the first round via submission, a win which further cemented “The Strabanimal’s” reputation as one of the most exciting talents in the Bellator bantamweight division.
Meanwhile, Team Ryano lightweight Myles Price defeated Peter Queally via split decision in the all Irish co-main event in what was dubbed the biggest grudge fight in Irish MMA history.
David Green, Head of Bellator Europe, said: “Ireland has always been a very important market for us and we are delighted to be returning to Dublin again in September.
“The event in Dublin in February this year was a landmark moment for the promotion and our dedicated fan base in Ireland made sure it was an unforgettable night of MMA action that will live long in the memory.”
He added: “The European Fight Series has so far delivered spectacular finishes, highlight-reel knockouts and huge upsets and we are anticipating another blockbuster event in September.”
Bellator Dublin will be the fourth instalment of six scheduled Bellator European Fight Series events set to take place throughout the UK and Europe in 2019, with two more events planned for later this year.
With a sell-out crowd expected on the night, Bellator Dublin promises to once again provide Irish MMA fans with an unforgettable night of MMA action.
Bout announcements are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Bellator Dublin will be broadcast live on Channel 5 in the UK and on Virgin Media Television in Ireland.

What's next for Darren Till?
What's next for Darren Till? - http://mmauk.net/2019/06/19/whats-next-for-darren-till/
What's next for Darren Till?
Tumblr media
The 12 months have been admittedly tough for Darren Till, inside and outside of the octagon. Having lost both of his last 2 fights in difficult circumstances, and his arrest in Tenerife after trashing a hotel room, it appears as if Till has fallen off track from his goal of capturing UFC gold.
What can explain his last two losses? Perhaps a lack of respect of both Woodley and Masvidal’s stand up skills. In his fight against Woodley, the big shot he took came in the form of a right hand counter as he attempted to throw an uppercut down the middle followed by his trademark left hand. Woodley’s boxing appeared to be severely underestimated by Till – very few people would have attempted that combination against a man known for lighting quick counter punching and ability to close distance so effectively.
In his fight against Jorge Masvidal, Till was again caught off guard, this time nailed with a beautiful one-two. In a sense, Till’s unwavering confidence in his own ability at times can be his biggest downfall. It feels as if sometimes his focus on his own striking prowess can allow unexpected openings for his opponents. The reason this point is made is because when Till respects the striking (as he did in the Wonderboy fight) he can clearly throw down with the best in the world. As for his grappling ability, he has shown his ability to defend the takedown, and his jiu-jitsu will continue to improve with more time on the mats.
If Till’s technical game is not the issue, then perhaps Darren’s personal life has played a factor in those past two losses. He admitted to the BBC earlier this year that he had felt as if he had ‘lost himself’ over the past year and had not been ‘fully focused to [his] craft’.
Till’s weight cut has also been questioned as a crucial factor into these losses. After he missed weight against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson it was all anyone could talk about, which would have been incredibly frustrating. Since then, he has seemingly made weight comfortably on both occasions but he always looks incredibly drained, and a move up to middleweight would seem a smart choice.
He only needs to look in the direction of Rumble Johnson and Anthony Smith as examples of fighters whose careers took off as soon as they moved up to their more natural weight. In addition to this, the matchups at middleweight are far more favourable than at welterweight for Till. If he stays in his current division, he would have to defeat grapplers such as Askren, Covington, Usman, Woodley and Dos Anjos. In the middleweight division, besides Yoel Romero, you would assume the fights are far more likely to be striking encounters.
In addition to this, Till is already massive at 170- he certainly wouldn’t be a small middleweight since he said himself he walks around at 200 lbs if he’s not preparing for a fight. Irregardless of weight, however, his path to gold in that division appears far more manageable.
The UK needs an elite star, and Till is the man to undertake this responsibility. After the recent retirement of Jimi Manuwa, and Michael Bisping’s exit from the fight game in 2017, it is more important than ever that Till is able to represent his country and fight at the top level.

A professional since February 2017 and representing Martinez BJJ, Kyle Daukaus owns a 5-0 record with all five of his victories coming via submission. In his MMA debut at AFL 53, he tapped out Dino Juklo in round one via rear naked choke. Daukaus also submitted his next two opponents in Tyler Bayer and Kyle Walker. At Art Of War Cage Fighting 5, he tapped out Elijah Gbollie via rear naked choke in the second round. At CFFC 72, Daukaus submitted Jonavin Webb via brabo choke to secure his fifth submission win as a professional. Beware of this constrictor’s deadly squeeze!

Dana White shuns Brendan Loughnane for UFC contract, despite dominant performance in DWTNCS
Tumblr media
Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series: Season 3 kicked off in the early hours this morning with 8 fighters looking to impress the UFC boss and gain a contract to the world’s leading MMA promotion. Included in those 8 fighters was Manchester’s Brendan Loughnane (17-3) who won his bout against Bill Algeo (12-4) via an incredibly one-sided unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the fight 30-27.
Fantastic night for Brendan, right? Wrong. Dana chose not to give him a contract due to some of the decisions he made in the fight, including shooting for a double leg takedown in the last 10 seconds of the fight. In the post event interview with Laura Sanko, Dana said “Let me tell you what you don’t do. You don’t come here; you don’t fight that type of fight and you don’t go for the double leg.” Dana did express his admiration for Brendan’s heart and skills however he believed that he didn’t perform in the right way to secure a contract.
Reading between the lines a little here, will uncover what Dana really meant. Brendan put on probably the most technically skilled performance of the night, showing off his striking and his grappling capabilities, but Dana wants out and out violence from these young fighters. He seemingly wants them to stay in the pocket and slug it out until one hit’s the mat. Sure, it’s exciting to see two fighters that want to stand and bang it out. Fights like Don Frye (20-9-1) vs Yoshihiro Takayama (0-4), Diego Sanchez (29-11) vs Gilbert Melendez (22-7) or Robbie Lawler (28-13) vs Rory MacDonald (21-5-1) have all gained legendary status with fans and journalists alike. The problem is these fights are outliers, they’re freak incidents that just occurred when the stars aligned. You can’t force two fighters into a classic, they just happen.
Social media has reacted to Dana’s comments with the majority of fans and outlets condemning his decision to pass Brendan over for a contract, all seemingly confused with Dana’s reasoning behind it. The question it leaves in my head, is what exactly does Dana White want from UFC fighters and potential UFC fighters? Do you want those rock em’ sock em’ brawlers? Or, do you want the best skilled fighters in the world? Do you want those fighters that have the lethal combination of skills and fight IQ? Don’t forget that the most successful fighters in the UFC are the ones that refrain from the brutal brawling game. They are the fighters that have long, fruitful careers by minimising the unnecessary damage taken in each of their fights.
UFC Copenhagen has just been announced and tickets are shortly to be released to the public although, not one fight has been announced for the card. Brendan was by far the most popular fighter on the card last night and would be a perfect fit for it. Not only that, the UFC have expressed their eagerness for a Darren Till (17-2-1) vs Leon Edwards (17-3) bout in the future, that card would have to take place in England and there is nothing better than seeing English fighters on those cards. There is a place for Brendan Loughnane in the UFC, so here’s to hoping that logic takes over soon!
