JW Anderson a/i 20: lo spleen di David Wojnarowic, l’idéal della moda

Quello firmato da Jonathan Anderson non è mai solo un fashion show. E quest’esordio non è affatto un tentativo di depistaggio lessicale magrittiano, bensì è un invito accorato ad impugnare la consapevolezza necessaria per godere appieno della collezione maschile JW Anderson a/i 20-21, e della profondità lacerante, eppur testardamente positiva, della sua messa in scena parigina.

Dopotutto lui, Jonathan Anderson, nasce enfant prodige della moda, e cresce con coerenza brillante: confermando  il suo valore ad ogni passo creativo, ad ogni sfilata puntuale nel destare stupore, ad ogni riflessione così pregna di realismo e generosità da divenire una rivelazione. Anderson è un visionario lucidissimo, che della moda preserva e innova pochi ideali, ma salvifici. Ovvero, i fondamentali. Crede infatti nella rieducazione al rispetto per l’eccellenza della manifattura e della sua filiera: come atto di onestà e di sostenibilità, perché poche cose belle e ben fatte ci motivano a trattenerle per gustarcele nel tempo, anziché arraffarne troppe per disfarcene subito in preda alla febbre consumistica. Crede anche nella conoscenza curiosa e costruttiva, assieme al progresso coscienzioso: quello che in slang fa poco “hype”, perché al rumore del marketing predilige l’azione concreta e sincera.

Ma, innanzitutto, Anderson crede nel grande potere della cultura: la moda riflette la società, diventa complice dell’arte, e come lei può assumere la missione di scuotere le coscienze mentre ne veste il corpo. È sì un linguaggio, ma è anche un grimaldello per scardinare le menti e avviare il cambiamento.

Non solo ci crede ma lo dimostra in collezione, con quella che per l’a/i 2020-21 di JW Anderson è più di un’ispirazione: Jonathan Anderson porta infatti in scena la voce e l’opera di David Wojnarowicz, con un suo monologo degli anni ’70, e una serie di manichini con la faccia coperta dalla citazione della maschera tratta dalla serie “Arthur Rimbaud a New York” e indosso un maglione che riproduce l’immagine tratta da “Untitled (Burning House)”.

Non è solo un omaggio, ma un atto di posizione e appello: giovane artista geniale e maledetto David Wojnarowicz,  come il suo Raimbaud, condannato alla tragedia dell’emarginazione omosessuale e alla pena di morte per aids nella New York di fine secolo scorso, lacerato dalla consapevolezza della violenza operata dalle convenzioni sociali cieche e sorde, consumato dalla voglia di ribellione che diventa militanza attiva, e arte che racconta il dramma con crudezza per schiaffeggiare l’ipocrisia politica e svegliare la società. C’è il dramma, ma anche la positività che Jonathan Anderson da tempo trova nel legame con la creatività di David Wojnarowicz mossa dalla politica: c’è anche tanta coerenza, che si esprime in una collezione sintetica, 35 look che riprendono i punti forti del suo passato recente e li riconfermano con piccoli giusti tocchi d’evoluzione per il futuro.

Or dunque, la passerella è un susseguirsi di pochi modelli perfetti nelle loro declinazioni: s’inizia col cappotto sofisticato sopra in doppiopetto e il resto che scende ampio e sbieco come una corolla ribaltata, che si semplifica e si ammorbidisce fino a risultare una calda cappa monastica, entrambi allacciati da una versione ingigantita della catena dorata che fa da leit motif anche sui dress snelli e lunghi in bianco o in paisley, motivo, quest’ultimo, che pervade anche la versione in duvet imbottito del cappotto in doppiopetto da cui è tratta anche anche la sciarpa che infiocchetta al caldo il collo dei giovani modelli.

A proposito di coerenza ed eccellenza, mentre le lane sono rigorosamente inglesi e artigianali, gli outfit fluiscono tra i gender, così la catena dorata decora le icone loafer ma anche le maglie che terminano con una balza rigonfia, oppure è sostituita da grandi perle che percorrono le spalle e le braccia, in un’alternanza scorrevole di eclettismo e minimalismo, fino al finale che richiude il cerchio di valore. Ovvero le due maglie che fino a quel momento erano indosso ai manichini in platea: i maglioni in feltro bianchi che riportano l’illustrazione della Burning House in nero e rosso, quella che era la denuncia artistica della New York di David Wojnarowicz, la sua casa metaforica distrutta dall’inferno dell’aids, sono andate immediatamente in vendita per supportare, in collaborazione con P·P·O·W e con Estate of David Wojnarowicz, la raccolta fondi a favore di VisualAIDS, l’organizzazione di arte contemporanea fondata nel 1988 a sostegno degli artisti positivi all’HIV. 

Vien spontaneo ora, appoggiare a degna conclusione e monito ottimista, anche un’altra citazione David Wojnarowicz, tratta dal libro, Close to the Knives: A Memoir of Disintegration: “If silence equals death, he taught us, then art equals language equals life.” (se il silenzio equivale alla morte, lui ci ha insegnato, allora l’arte equivale al linguaggio e così alla vita).

ꕥ She loves when you offer to braid her hair for the day, now she just volunteers you to do it with a random excuse, “I dunno princess, you just do it better!” She’ll have the brush, and hair ties ready once you finish your morning routine.

ꕥ Morning Routines? She usually wakes up when you do, or some time before. But once you wake up, she immediately follows you to watch you get ready for the day. It’s endearing, kind of like a giant puppy.

ꕥ She enjoys pet names surprisingly, and will call you all sorts of names (princess, love, sweetheart, etc). She never got to show her lovey dovey side before you, so she just can’t help it.

ꕥ Hates when you get upset, “Princess, cmon talk to me… what happened?” Always running a soothing hand down your back, she just wants to be there for you.

ꕥ She’s not as stoic as people may think when it comes to you, she’s just a girl who loves her princess to death; therefore, she has to show it… like all the time, sue her (you’re just as bad).

ꕥ A random girl hits on her? She gives the girl a judgy once over… maybe twice? hell THREE times, and says something like “I have a girlfriend, you’re gonna get us both in trouble…”, “Uhm I’m taken.”, “My girlfriend won’t like this.” Before she starts aimlessly looking around for where the hell you went to, because the interaction is now a little awkward.

ꕥ Oh god and the coin collection, she indeed has one of those collection binders, and keeps it organized/labeled. She gets so excited whenever you gift her a new one, and always shows you when she finished a sheet in the binder.

ꕥ She most definitely loves to shop with you, and go on errands. Something about being all domestic and on top of business, watching you mark off things you two need for the house, watching you get all happy when you finally get to go shopping, and being productive makes her feel good. (She wants to put a ring on that finger real bad, real bad).

⤍ Makes you carry her wallet, and phone when y’all are out because she feels they are safer with you, (her wallet fell out her pocket once and she freaked the hell out). She keeps her keys on a carabiner with a bunch of random charms or a lanyard so she can’t misplace them.
