Jilypad Week 2023!!
(organised by the wonderful @jmagnabo92 💜)
Day 1 - When and Why did you begin to Ship Jilypad?  What makes you Ship it?
uhhh definitely can’t remember when i started shipping them but i think…and this’ll sound stupid lol…that it was because i really wanted more j/s and i wasn’t getting it anywhere else lol at that point, i didn’t quite care for lily bc i was so burnt by all those weird jily portrayals and the deified lily we get in gen fic,,,but once i actually started reading jilypad i realised how fun she could be. we definitely get some of the best characterisation for her on this side, i think, but i also could be hugely biased. she’s just…more fun, ykno? living her best life with two of the hottest guys the world!s seen beside her. also! it’s the only way i can see any form of lily/sirius working out and i think james deserves to have two people fully glomping on him. so. jilypad is what all of them deserve.
(i think…one of the first references to this was one of keira marcos’ fics where s was in a triad w jily but they were dead so it never came up so much—that didn’t stop the sheer heartbreak of sirius carrying on from bleeding into the story tho. it was so,,,,,hnghhhh)

The Water Outlaws by S. L. Huang
Mountain outlaws on the margins of society, the Bandits of Liangshan proclaim a belief in justice—for women, for the downtrodden, for progressive thinkers a corrupt Empire would imprison or destroy. They’re also murderers, thieves, smugglers, and cutthroats. Together, they could bring down an empire.
Now available in paperback!
Somewhere Beyond the Sea by TJ Klune
The long-awaited sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea is a story of resistance, lovingly told, about the daunting experience of fighting for the life you want to live and doing the work to keep it. Welcome back to Marsyas Island—home to six magical and purportedly dangerous children. This is Arthur’s story.

The West Passage by @jpechacek
When the Guardian of the West Passage dies in her bed, the women of Grey Tower feed her to the crows and go back to their chores. No successor is named, and no hand takes up the fallen blade, so the West Passage—the ancient byways of the beast—goes unguarded. This is a weird and delightful journey across a deliriously medieval landscape where decay thrives in abundance and giant Ladies rule a palace the size of a city.
Blood Debts by Terry J. Benton-Walker
On the thirtieth anniversary of the largest magical massacre in New Orleans history, Clement and Cristina Trudeau mourn their father and care for their sick mother. But their mother isn’t sick, they learn: She’s cursed. Cursed by a member of the same magic council over which she used to preside. Cursed by someone who will come for Clement and Cristina next.

Bury Your Gays by @drchucktingle
After so many years, Misha’s big Oscar moment is here. All he has to do? Kill off the gay characters in his long-running streaming series, “for the algorithm.” Misha refuses, but that’s hardly the end, because monsters from his old horror movie days have begun to step out from the silver screen and stalk him.
The Brides of High Hill by Nghi Vo
The Cleric Chih accompanies a young bride to her wedding to Lord Guo, the aging ruler of a crumbling estate, but amid the elaborate courtesies and extravagant banquets, they realize something haunts the shadowed halls. As the big night nears close, Chih will learn that not all monsters dwell in shadows; some hide in plain sight.

Remedial Magic by Melissa Marr
1) An unassuming librarian falls in love with a powerful witch.
2) Previous librarian discovers she too is a witch…
3) …and that she must attend magical community college to learn how to save her new world from annihilation.
Swordcrossed by @fahye
Part-time con artist / full-time charming menace Luca Piere didn’t expect to get blackmailed into teaching a chronically responsible merchant Matti how to wield a sword. He also didn’t expect to find his charge so inconveniently handsome, or to get so entangled in his tale of intrigue, sabotage, and matrimony.
It’s important to read Swordcrossed because while you’re reading gay fiction, you can also study the blade.

“Evening,” Sirius called out, when Harry entered the kitchen, particularly quiet as he walked down the corridor. It was late, past midnight, definitely, yet it was one of those nights (which had turned into most of them) in which he couldn’t sleep. “Careful not to wake my sweet mother up?”
Harry laughed a “yes”, before sitting down. “She’s quite charming.”
“She is, isn’t she?” Sirius asked, running a hand through his hair, already flecked with grey. “Always was, my mother. Thought Molly sent you off to bed already.”
“I wanted to talk to you,” Harry said, sincerely. “You seemed down.”
“I don’t like being here,” He rasped out, looking away from his godson. “But I reckon you know how that feels, considering how eager you were when I told you to move in with me once my name would be cleared.”
Harry chuckled. “Yeah. Dudley’s not the nicest cousin I could have.”
“The offer’s still on the table, though, you know.”
He smiled, so alike to James. “I know.”
“Is there something in your mind?” Sirius asked, pushing his chair back with a harsh scrape and propping his legs up on the table. “You seem off yourself. Nervous about going back to Hogwarts?”
Harry a hand through his messy hair. “I’ve been told by many that people think I’ve gone off the rails.”
Sirius scoffed. “You shouldn’t care about what other people think of you. You know you’re telling the truth about Voldemort, and that should be enough.”
“Yeah, well, but considering the Ministry’s saying he’s not back and everyone listens to what Fudge says, it’s kind of hard to not be the poster for gone mad.” Harry let out a small laugh. “Which would be easier to deal with if fewer people believed him, but I reckon I don’t have credibility considering I’m a fifteen-year-old who’s been deemed bonkers and unstable.”
Sirius leaned on the two back legs of his chair. “The Ministry’s spreading the same propaganda during the first war, too. Nothing’s happening, we’ve got everything under control, obviously, how could we not, and Voldemort’s little servants’ attacks are actually just tragic accidents of an unknown nature — that’s a heaping pile of shit, obviously.” (Harry snorted.)
He picked at his nails. “They’re still the main voice, though.”
“I know,” Sirius replied, “but soon enough when they’re not gonna be able to cover up the attacks anymore, they’ll figure everything out.” Sirius took a swig out of the wine glass. “Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, is there anything else that’s on your mind, besides Fudge being an idiot and, I assume, the exams?”
Harry looked away from him. “There’s this girl…”
“Merlin’s beard,” Sirius murmured, chuckling into the hand he had run over his face, “you’re just like James. Tell me, is she perhaps a redhead with a fiery temper and a knack for picking the worst mates out of the bunch?”
Harry laughed, then completely stilled and, when he was sure the portrait of Walburga Black hadn’t started shouting again, he leaned forward arms on the table. “No. She’s on the Quidditch Team.” He then bit his cheek, obviously looking for his words. “Did they love each other?”
Sirius’ gaze softened as he poured himself another glass of wine. He looked at the boy sitting on the chair at the old, wooden table in his childhood kitchen — all James looks-wise, besides his eyes, Lily’s. Yet his temper was just like Lily’s, as seemed to be a big part of his personality; Remus told him so, the few weeks he’d stayed at his shabby cottage in Glasgow and had the time to find themselves all over again.
“Yes. Very much. Well,” Sirius tsked, “James was gone, that’s for sure. For years before something actually happened between them. But Lily obviously loved him, too. I remember their wedding — I was the best man, you know? — your father got quite, ah, tipsy, and by the end of the evening, he’d declared his undying love to your mother probably over twenty times. It was a beautiful night. Happened in the August after we graduated. They’d been planning it for months before; it wasn’t a big thing, but it was probably the best night of my life. I’ll have to ask Remus if he still has the pictures.”
“Why would he have them?” Harry asked, curiously.
“We used to live together,” Sirius answered. “Lily and James moved out, and then it was the two of us. Peter lived with his mum after they moved to Godric’s Hollow — that’s where they lived, where you were born — so Remus and I kept the apartment for ourselves. Reckon he still has the pictures, even though he moved out, since I don’t have them.”
“You two lived together!?” He demanded, incredulously.
“Oh, yes,” Sirius chuckled, sitting back down and downing a good part of the wine he’d poured himself. “We moved in together, like I told you. I knew him pretty intimately, so to say.”
Harry nodded, then rubbed his eyes and yawned tiredly.
“It’s getting late, now. Head off to bed before Molly catches you and tells me off for being such an irresponsible godfather,” He said, acutely aware of how irritated his voice sounded.
Harry smiled. “Night, Sirius.”
“Good night, Harry.”

HI there! <3 for the character ask:
Can you do Megaman X? Hes my favorite boi
Tumblr media
And just like that we ended up going through all the main Mega Mans. (Sorry ZX and Advent sorry-sorry-sorry)
Send Me a Character
And I will tell you my:
First impression When was the first time I saw X? I believe it was this bootleg cartridge of 32-in-1 games, but he wasn't even in any of the games. (It was the X4 boxart being used for something else, o'course.)
Not knowing any context for this part of the series, I obviously didn't have much interest in X. His constant angy faces just made me think it was too hardcore for me, like DBZ-fandom-powerscaling-hoo-hah-hardcore. Those sorts of things turn me off easily.
I think OP things can be fun and cool (See: My child) but talking about it like it's a BDE contest is too much for me. I just Do Not Care.
It wouldn't be until I decided to look more into Rock's brother that I learned X had another side to him, on top of the DBZ-powerscaling-hoo-hah that people will still bring up for him (and Zero). This was mainly because I wanted to draw more of the Light family together, but I had no idea about X's personality.
So yeah, I see it now. He's such a sweetie, poor thing. Because of course we don't wanna talk about the other things X can express, it's always "just this one" or "just that one" in a totally good or totally bad context. I think X is interesting because of all of that, and it's simply that he acts so complicated, like a human.
That is the point, I think.
He tried so hard and for what, to die and have four kids on his own. Poor thing.
Impression now Nothing has changed. I'd like for him to take it easy, I know he can't.
Favorite moment There is this cute image of X playing with tiny figurines of enemies (I can't find it online, but it's in the Classic/X anthology thing from UDON) and he looks so bappy-happy. It makes me think he'd like to collect figurines, maybe even taking after Dr. Cain's own hobby.
Idea for a story We're going back to Xeno, my friends ahah! I had this ongoing story in my head where X invites KOS-MOS to a friendly outing, with the idea that it would help her soften up a little (it was also Shion's idea). Of course later on, what X doesn't realize is that this was something KOS-MOS was always able to do.
Stupid hijinks were supposed to ensue in the background.
Unpopular opinion I don't think I have anything unpopular to say. Whatever I have in mind puts me on one of the two butting-sides in discussing X's being.
Favorite relationship Please see the previous character in this series of Asks.
Favorite headcanon Aside from the thing about the figurines above, I think X could've gone through "Reploid" puberty, kinda like how Axl seemingly did between X7 and X8. His mentality definitely can mature so why not? In X1 his voice sounds so high, but now one of his boys got that voice.
He's just not as soft on others.
Oh yeah, and if he could sing it'd be like an old-school VOCALOID. (HAYATOM is totally YAMAHA, yes-no?)

She had come for him. She had found him.
The world went quiet. The pain in his body faded into nothing. Into something secondary. Lorcan slid his other arm around Elide, bringing his mouth close to her ear as he said, "You have to let me go."
Elide didn't shift her focus from the keep ahead. "No."
That gentle quiet flowed around him, clearing the fog of pain and battle. "You have to. You have to, Elide. I'm too heavy-and without my weight, you might make it to the keep in time."
"No." The salt of her tears filled his nose. Lorcan brushed his mouth over her damp cheek, ignoring the roaring pain in his body. The horse galloped and galloped, as if she might outrace death itself.
"I love you," he whispered in Elide's ear. "I have loved you from the moment you picked up that axe to slay the ilken." Her tears flowed past him in the wind. "And I will be with you ..." His voice broke, but he made himself say the words, the truth in his heart. "I will be with you always." He was not frightened of what would come for him once he tumbled off the horse. He was not frightened at all, if it meant her reaching the keep.
So Lorcan kissed Elide's cheek again, allowed himself to breathe in her scent one last time. "I love you," he repeated, and began to withdraw his arms from around her waist. Elide slapped a hand onto his forearm. Dug in her nails, right into his skin, fierce as any ruk. "No." There were no tears in her voice. Nothing but solid, unwavering steel.
"No," she said again. The voice of the Lady of Perranth. Lorcan tried to move his arm, but her grip would not be dislodged. If he tumbled off the horse, she would go with him. Together. They would either outrun this or die together.
