To All the Fandoms I've Loved Before

Throughout my life, I've regularly participated in fandom—from enjoying art and AMVs/edits to writing fanfiction for Naruto, Supernatural, One Piece, and more. So, it's safe to say that I have a lot of experience watching the highs and lows of different fandoms.

And, trust me, I know the sting of finishing a series and learning that a ship I've loved for years hasn't been made canon. The frustration when a character I love dies. How a story deviated from what I hoped. It sucks! However, I also remember the hysteria too. Happening again and again. The malicious attacks and inappropriate conduct. Over and over.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here are some examples:

SasuSaku blogs were flooded with threatening messages after Sasuke and Sakura were confirmed to be a couple

Kikyo stans were harassed out of forums, YT comment sections, etc., simply because they might've preferred her character over Kagome's

Genevieve Padalecki and Danneel Ackles endured a barrage of online attacks, bullying, and threats because they married Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester)

Amanda Abbington, Martin Freeman's ex-wife, faced similar attacks after she was cast as Mary Morstan in BBC's Sherlock—simply because some fans believed she was "getting in the way" of Johnlock

Prior to the Vox Machina animated series, when the campaign was still streaming, many people within the Criticial Role fandom villified Marisha Ray for her relationship with Matthew Mercer, wherein she became the victim of excessive online harassment and bullying

Laura Bailey portrayed Abby Anderson in the Last of Us II, a character who is highly controversial amongst fans. As such, Laura was subjected to mass online harassment and death threats. It was so bad, ign reported that HBO has increased security around Abby's live-action actress, Kaitlyn Dever.

Some Klance and Allurance stans routinely trolled and harassed each other—inciting such extreme inter-fandom conflict online that their "war" spilled into non-ship related content, discouraging others from interacting with the Voltron fandom entirely

Matt Smith faced unfair online criticism at the time of his casting, simply because he was the follow-up act to David Tennant's iconic Tenth Doctor—only for Matt Smith's iteration to be one of the most beloved incarnations ever

The frequent and ongoing racism POC cosplayers face every fucking day—slurs, threats, and more

The Cassandra Clare fandom came for the throats of anyone who had fair and justified criticism of both CC and her work—particularly around copyright infringement

The same thing can be said about the Sarah J. Maas fandom

2010s Tumblr blogs falsely accused John Green of pedophilia because he wrote contemporary romance YA—harassing him for months on Tumblr, and practically driving him off the platform

Marvel fans spread rumors about Brie Larson, accusing her of being an "arrogant racist" because they didn't like her or the MCU's depiction of Carol Danvers

Legend of Korra stans are still targets of misogynistic and racist rhetoric online—both here on Tumblr and on TikTok

The Durarara!! discourse of the 2010s was so fucked up, so vile, people disengaged from the series and the fandom entirely. This affected sales and the second season, which never really gained the traction it deserved because of how insufferable and toxic Durarara!! fans proved to be during the original run of the first season—I mean, people were harassing cosplayers at events! That's how bad it was

I could go on—and on, and on, until this post is nothing but a harrowing list of how people can't seem to behave themselves.

And, these behaviours need to fucking stop.

So, to reiterate what I've said on another post, but targeted towards a wider audience:

Your feelings of disappointment do not give you the right to harass others online

Your feelings of frustration do not give you the right to harass and bully actors, creators, and writers ever—online or otherwise

Your ugly biases will never justify viciously attacking women, POC, queer people, disabled people, and fat people in fandom spaces

You're entitled to feel your feelings and have your opinions. You're allowed to express your disappointment online and within your own community. But don't go around attacking others because of said feelings—this concept really isn't that hard to grasp. And in the same vein, don't incite conflict with fans who are disappointed to gloat about your "victories." Neither of these actions are productive and simply contribute to the growing toxicity in fandom spaces.

The only exception to this, of course, is if you're racist, ableist, fatphobic, homophobic, transphobic, etc. Cause if you're any of those things, you're disgusting and block me right the fuck now. This blog is NOT a safe space for you.

horror/thriller definitely! ever since i was little, i've always loved the yandere theme and psychological themes in general. seeing the world through someone else's perspective is quite interesting to me.

Genuinely cannot remember the last time I did the dishes. I did them today out of sheer necessity. I showered 3 times this week. I haven't really enjoyed anything. I've just been existing and trying to find things to enjoy but even Vox Machina is exhausting right now (I got up to the Raishan fight and I don't want to watch Scanlan leave) but I haven't been able to watch anything new so I'm like 10 episodes behind on Bell's Hells, I haven't seen any New Who, and I don't have Amazon to see if I could watch Fallout.

Shit's been rough, y'all.

I had a new job for one day. It Was Not going to be a good fit, either with my personality, my skills, or my schedule, so I quit.

I've been donating plasma for money in the meantime, but the last couple times have Not gone well. Tuesday I sat in the car a hour and a half after I finished and felt like I was dying (exhausted, headache, shaky, dizzy, itchy wrists???) for like 20 minutes, and then I finally was able to nap for half an hour and woke up feeling relatively normal and able to drive home (I was waiting for J to get off work). Yesterday I wasn't able to finish donating bc Human Body Reasons (aka who tf knows but probably not enough water beforehand?? Idk) so I got to 230 out of 830 (ml I think?) and was told to have some goldfish and a Gatorade. I still got paid, thankfully.

My dr.'s appt is Tuesday (after having to reschedule due to tornadoes) so hopefully I'll be back on some kind of adhd meds that AREN'T strattera bc that shit SUCKED ASS but it did kind of help. Just not enough to balance with the awful side effects.

I just finished The Legend of Vox Machina season one and I am literally shaking. Like the second last episode where Cass gets visions of her and Percy as kid had me reduced to tear. The change to make it Keyleth who is mortally wounded was an unexpected choice but since Vex and Keyleth didn’t have as strong a bond as they did in the original campaign I can see why they changed it. And to be honest it’s really Vex and Vax of the twins to have adorable relationships with their sibling’s s/o. (Even with the slightly romantic undertones of those relationships, Prec’ildan and Vexleth shippers I see you) I was so cool that Pike and Keyleth still got to beat the shit out of Sylas and Grey Griffin’s performance of the “I broke the world for us“ line was just bone chilling. Seeing the twins fight just pulled at my heartstring like 🥺😭🥺😭. Grog getting to rematch against Sylas and Pike fucking up Delilah to save our favourite gnome bard was just literally everything. And I bet you can guess my favourite moment for the episodes from the screenshot at the top. Like I have ways been a huge Perc’ahlia shipper, like honestly one of my favourite couples of all the media I’ve watched. And Percy’s expression when she slipped the mask off his face was just horrifying in a good way. Vex’s line delivery was just so smooth like Laura kicked it out of the park and so did everyone else, who would have thought a show based in a dnd game with professional voice actors would have amazing voice acting /lh /j. Anna being in the acid room was crazy and the animation on the fight scenes was incredible. I also just loved the way they did Orthax too, like then Scanlan throwing the gun into the acid. Only complaint I have is that we didn’t get hold personed Percy saying “You were never mother’s favourite she told me,” I adore this line. AND THE ENDING, like what a way to end a season. The dragons flying over head and Uriel being in the Cloud-top proclaiming the creation of the Tal’dorei Council as a government I cannot wait for season two!

am not watching until tomorrow night but, here’s the tlovm s1 finale cliffhanger wishlist:

last few mins of the last ep vox machina gets invited to the sovereign conference thing, we get the conference and then in like the last 30 seconds the dragons start attacking, allura’s tower falls, theres a bit of “what’s going on!” and after a bit someone says “oh no” while the camera pans out and we see four dragons attacking emon. cut to black. orchestral version of the theme song slowly swells and the title screen fades in, and the chroma conclave symbol fading in after .

if we don’t get this, we get a typical happy end scene (maybe ending with receiving a letter from uriel and the sentimental ‘oh wow we’re heroes now’ type thing) and the end credits plays some happy music (maybe scanlan singing? it’s a long shot lol the ost is already up) like yknow more similar to movie credits with art and fun details while we get a montage of percy giving craven edge to grog and grog talking to craven edge

EDIT: if we get neither of these i am willing to accept (/j) Scanlan Throws Percy’s Gun Into An Acid Pit, maybe as an end credits scene or the final gag before it fades to black
