some takes i see are so dismissive when it comes to jacob and his iwtv opinions saying he’s biased or he only cares about loustat when that doesn’t even make sense and also…. who cares if he does? is he not supposed to favor things on the show he’s apart of?
what’s funny is you all will say he has “lestat worms for brains” when has never outright said he loves lestat or that he’s even a fan of him—he just loves loustat and their fucked up dynamic. what he HAS said is black characters shouldn’t be treated as a monolith and he’s gotten “icy” with sam over referring to louis as a liar so clearly he is a louis stan first and a shipper second.
many of you who claim to care about louis only seem to care about his ships so don’t speak on jacob. thnks x

Ahahaha, this is like the people that are adamant that Daniel Molloy is the worst one in IWTV because he was snarky to Armand, when Armand, and most other characters besides Daniel is active serial killing vampires, and Armand personally spent six days physically and mentally torturing Daniel before trying to kill him when he was 20 years old, because Armand’s boyfriend was attracted to him.
But sure, the 71 year old geriatric journalist with Parkinson’s is the worst character on the show because he was mean.
jack crawford haters are so strange. how did you watch nbc hannibal and come away thinking "if jack actually cared about will he wouldn't treat him like that". this is the mistreating-your-loved-ones show.

Hi, I hope you are doing well. There is one thing I don't understand before getting into an argument. Basically, some people have made the show about race (which respectfully is their opinion). What I don't get is if the trial went the same even when Louis' character was white?!. If so, I don't get why people hate on others because they like Lestat and accuse them of being racist and supportive of domestic violence. THIS IS A SHOW ABOUT VAMPIRES WHO DON'T GIVE A SINGLE FVCK ABOUT RACE!!!!! Madaline was white, and she got the same fate as them, like make it make sense ffs. Also, it is not a moral show; it is about monsters who drain people for fun, so let people like who tf they want to!. Another point is that there is not one single healthy relationship in that show so what? Are we all supportive of domestic violence?!.
Let‘s just let Delainey answer that one:
Tumblr media
They did not make it about that. But she can see how it could be construed.
@virginiaisforvampires made a very good post on all of this the other day, you can read it here:
Ultimately this is a show about vampires, and the meta level of addressing racism is definitely there, but they… make a show about vampires.
And the rest is fandom interpretation. And nothing more.

been thinking a lot lately about IWTV's shifting POVs and "memory is a monster" as a foundation of the show, now and going forward.
bc storytelling-wise/audience-wise it's an interesting exercise in trust--and i'm curious to see how this exercise plays out: if can i remain emotionally invested if the property refuses to commit to the veracity of anyone's version of events?
if something devastating happens in the plot and I take that to heart for two years, and then they go back on it and i have to sit with that fallout, do I eventually become numbed to the ups and downs of the story? is it the-boy-who-cried-wolf heartbreak?
--genuine questions, I don't know the answer. I love the show. and people having conflicting POV about events is just life.
but as a storytelling conceit, it's interesting? Rashōmon was a movie of an hour and thirty minutes. IWTV is years (knock wood) of television. I adore the idea of uncertainty, but I am curious if I can sustain emotional investment if emotional beats, important facts, will all be ambiguous; if the default is to be on edge for the "gotcha" wet finger in my ear lol. i'm still game to find out.

Anyway if you’re wondering what the fandom is like on Twitter, they’re literally making shit up about Lestat for no goddamn reason.
You don’t have to be a book fan to know Lestat didn’t do a damn thing to hurt Claudia and Louis at the trial - THE SHOW SPELLS IT OUT FOR YOU.

Hi! Welcome to Anne Rice’s House of Pain! How much pain would you like?
Hey. Yeah. I’d like a good role model character. A real moral paragon, you know?
I’m sorry, we only serve pain.
Moral characters have pain! They suffer!
I’m sorry it’s a no-substitution menu. We don’t have any moral paragons in stock. We only serve pain. But we do have all varieties of that, even different serving sizes!
Oh… I guess just a small pain then?
Sure, would you like that gothic style?
What’s in the gothic style?
Violence, sexual abuse, the threat of violence and sexual abuse, intergenerational family trauma, feminism, weird nature, weird houses, race relations, ghosts, curses, secrets, incest, really awful parenting, isolation, ableism, disease, betrayal, self-loathing and death.
That sounds very painful :(
Well, we like to do our best here at Anne Rice’s house of Pain :)
Ok, I’ll have the - what’s your smallest portion again?
The weekly, it’s very popular.
Ok I’ll have a weekly, gothic style please.
Sure thing, coming right up!
***
Here you go, one weekly portion, gothic style. It comes with a free Coke too.
What the hell is that?!
It’s your order?
It disgusts me. You people disgust me!
But I told you what was in it?
Everyone is sad! Nothing is pure!
And it’s piping hot too!
It’s nothing to be proud of. You should be ashamed for serving this pain. You should be ashamed for liking it and making it!
But… you came here, to the House of Pain. And you ordered the pain?
I thought you’d be a better person about it and spare me somehow. Oh ew that is so gross. And very un-pc. You know that right?I’m leaving before I see something worse. And I’m telling everyone I know how awful you are!
Ok... so I shouldn’t reserve this table for the same time next week?
I guess I can give you another chance. I’m really looking forward to all the absolution I’m going to consume next week. It better be good! Tell your chef to act right.

I love IWTV and I prefer S2 to S1, but I gotta ask how people feel about the following things bc they're playing on my mind atm and I'm curious
How do we feel about the fact that literally every somewhat plot relevant female character we've followed or met this season all died fairly brutal deaths? Emilia, Daciana, the theatre covern members, and of course Claudia and Madeleine
How do we feel about the way they walked back some of the stuff from S1 that probably caught fans attention during airing? Namely, Daniel suddenly now knowing that wearing gloves when handling historical papers isn't good practice, or them retroactively fixing the plot hole heretofore unmentioned of Lestat speaking to Louis telepathically after Louis' turning?

after surviving the hell that was the got fandom where people would ask him to his face about his genitalia or not even refer to him by his name, it pains me to know that jacob is once again apart of a show with a disgusting fandom and this time as the LEAD.
the way he feels such genuine comfort and love on set is how he should feel from the fandom as well and the key word here is: genuine. he doesn’t know what these people really think about him. these people have met him at events, WENT TO HIS CONCERT, smiled in his face, and each time it was more to fulfill their lestat fantasies (because he is treated as an extension of sam) without actual care and reverence for him.
during his concert fans on twt were right to call out the audacity of throwing the tvl shirt on stage (which was done by these exact racist plantation fans btw). and whether he smiled about it or not it was HIS concert, a raleigh ritchie concert, and some of his music-only fans didn’t even know the lestat reference in the first place. jacob has separated his music and acting for a reason and he shouldn’t be pigeonholed into a box by fans. people who complained were silenced and written off as being “jealous” and “fandom drama” when it’s like… it literally was not an iwtv event? why is it some inconceivable want regulated to a “woke” notion that people would ask for JACOB’S TIME to be his time? it was his first major concert in about 5 fucking years?
honestly, i really don’t think it’s too much to push for amc to not allow these people around him anymore? these people use him to boost their online clout and engagement and simultaneously dismissed the antiblackness towards him and louis for years and now that it’s finally caught up to them we have the fake notes apologies, “i didn’t know about slavery i’m european” and all the bullshit we’ve seen before.
for season 3 amc really needs to go back to keeping things professional between journalists and the cast, (and vet these journalists btw because some of them are also side-eye worthy) close the sets, and protect the cast. the lack of any type of boundaries during season 2 is how we have gotten to this point. sigh.

I can understand why people are mad, imagine if him or Sam talked like that of Loustat it would be a punch on my face or Sam was dismissive of Nickistat i'm sure a lot of fans would start rioting
Imagine being told again and again that Loustat are endgame and fans just ignoring that to make up their own fantasy Loumand relationship in their heads and then being mad at the actors for actually speaking their minds when/bc it doesn’t match that fantasy.

Gilbey's Gin (subliminal 1970s advertising)
I mention this ad in the final chapter of my current fic Memory & Cruelty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is the excerpt from the story:
It puts Daniel in mind of that gin ad from the eighties. The one with the frosty glass of gin with ice. The ice cubes spell out the word ‘sex’, but it’s hidden, so you don’t consciously know you’re seeing it. You think you’re just looking at a nice G&T. Except suddenly, now you really want that drink. For the whole next week, you can think of nothing but that drink. You don’t even know why. It had been one of the highlights of his early career actually, seeing one of his articles printed opposite that ad. He’d felt thrilled to know people were reading his words with sex on the brain.
(I just changed the decade; the ad is from the 70s, but for me, it's more reasonable for Daniel to be seeing himself in magazine print later.)
The full chapter is coming tomorrow!
