I live close to the big thickett and hope one day one of these miracle birds will grace the land I live on and then my family won't be able to sell cuz it'll be wildlife refuge.
It's called the "big thickett" and "piney woods" for a reason. It's THICC like my dumbass chickens keep hiding their eggs in the brush and I'll just let Bigfoot have em. With all the dead trees from these last few harsh summers maybe it will entice a ghost bird out here.
When the woods look like this it's easy to believe in Bigfoot and lost woodpeckers
I'm still convinced this is a good and funny post and I won't apologize
#ivory billed woodpecker#every pileated ding dong till you see their wings#my family's currently trying to UNHOUSE relatives on family land out of state who have been there their whole lives for like $2k a share#their bitching cuz some Chad is having it classified as wetlands#they're all loaded btw they're just greedy ass garbage rich people who ardently believe their self made#when they really all mooched off my grandpa's (RIP) hard work#the GD audacity they have cuz my spoiled ass always points out where ive been lucky enough yo have help#but u ask them they just 'saved their money' like the 10's of thousands from the sale of grandpa-pa's company#personal piney posting#sorry for whining but i want that lord god bird to ban the capitalists from these woods

Valeria felt bad for keeping you in an ivory tower; her fears of something happening to you drove her mind to endless places with countless possibilities. So there you stayed, as Valeria's most guarded "object."
Your complaints of loneliness and boredom didn't fall on deaf ears. She tried to think of ways to keep you entertained and happy. When she noticed puppies for sale during an outing, and one of them sort of looked at her the same way you did when you were begging her to stay for just one more hour, she immediately had the idea to give you something to take care of.
"His name is Icarus," Valeria mumbled as she put the puppy down on the bed where you usually lay. "He's a Great Dane, and he will keep you company and safe while I'm working. Everything you need is in the living room. I have things I need to do; I'll be home later," Valeria said, glancing at the time and rushing to leave while you fawned over the puppy.
Hours later, she usually came home to find you waiting for her with sad puppy eyes in the living room, watching the door. When she wasn't greeted as usual, she felt her eyes furrow in confusion before taking off her boots and setting her keys in the small glass bowl next to the door.
Soft laughter could be heard before you came running into the hallway, sliding on your socks on the wood flooring as the puppy followed you happily.
Valeria watched this, rolling her eyes and shaking her head. She observed as you played with the puppy for hours instead of following her around and talking to her, as you usually did. It wasn't long before you were tired and crawled into bed with Icarus next to you in Valeria's spot, quietly. Valeria followed soon after.
"You've spent all night with him; you didn't even eat dinner with me. You ate it while you took him outside," Valeria huffed quietly, trying to hide her jealousy, even though she didn't want to admit it.
You shifted in bed, and Icarus, ever the vigilant guardian, raised his head, looking at Valeria before settling back down. You gave her an apologetic smile.
"Sorry, I got carried away. But look at him, he's so cute!" you whispered, scratching behind Icarus' ear.
Valeria's stern expression softened as she watched the two of you. "He is cute, I'll give you that. But remember, he's not a replacement for me."
You chuckled. "Of course not. But it's nice to have some company."
Valeria slid into bed, her eyes still on the adorable scene in front of her. "Just don't forget who brought him here. And I expect you to pay attention to me, too." "Is thee Valeria Garza jealous over a puppy?" You teased as you tried to stifle a laugh and a grin as you glanced at Valeria.
Valeria shot you a playful glare, her lips curling into a smirk. "Jealous? Please. I just want to make sure my priorities are clear. The puppy is a bonus, not the main act."
You grinned, wrapping your arms around Valeria. "Alright, alright. You're still number one, don't worry. Icarus is just... good company."
Valeria snuggled closer, her tone softening. "Well, he better not get used to sleeping in between us. That spot is reserved for me."

Liberia, West Africa’s most forested country, has a long history of illegal logging, which the country's regulator, the Forestry Development Authority, has repeatedly struggled to confront.
So it raised eyebrows when Rudolph Merab, whose companies were twice found to have engaged in illegal logging, was recently appointed to lead the FDA. One of Merab's companies was also mentioned in the trial of Charles Taylor, a former Liberia president who was convicted of war crimes during the civil war in neighboring country Sierra Leone.
In an interview with The Associated Press, for the first time Merab answered questions about his past and detailed his plans for managing Liberia's forests, promising to increase timber exports and cut regulations.
“Commercial logging has always helped the country,” said Merab, interviewed by phone in late April, adding that more sawmills were needed so freshly cut trees could be processed within Liberia before being exported.
Liberia, a country of more than 5 million people, is bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea and Ivory Coast, and has a long coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. Despite a recent past that includes civil war and chronic problems with illegal logging, much of its tropical forests remain lush and intact.
Merab implied that twice as many trees could be felled compared to Liberia’s previous peak without endangering its rainforests, which are home to West African chimpanzees and endangered forest elephants. The highest previous annual timber exports from Liberia were 1.4 million cubic meters (1.83 cubic yards), he said, whereas 3 million cubic meters (3.92 million cubic yards) would be sustainable. That would be the equivalent of about 1,200 Olympic-sized swimming pools filled with wood.
Last year, the AP revealed $3 million of timber had been illegally logged under the FDA’s then managing director Mike Doryen. He presided over a shadow system for illegal log exports in which up to 70% of timber was exported off-the-books, a dossier compiled by the U.K. Foreign Office said. Doryen has denied wrongdoing.
The United Kingdom and European Union, both major donors to Liberian forest conservation, hoped a change in government would bring about a new era. Ex-president and former footballer George Weah, who appointed Doryen and refused to sack him despite sustained diplomatic pressure, was voted out of office last year. That meant a new boss of the FDA.
President Joseph Boakai's February appointment of Merab has been met with criticism by environmentalists. Requests to the president's office seeking comment on Merab's appointment were not answered.
“Fifteen years ago, there was real hope that a newly reformed Liberian forest sector could become a shining example of how to manage tropical forests legally and sustainably," said Sam Lawson, founding director of nonprofit Earthsight and a timber expert who trained new FDA staff when the organization was reformed in the 2000s. “This latest news is the nail in the coffin of those hopes.”
As president a trade group, the Liberia Timber Association, Merab strongly criticized a $150 million deal between Liberia and Norway that aimed to protect remaining forests. He argued it threatened the logging industry and said he would leave “no stone unturned” in challenging it.
A logger since the 1980s, one of Merab’s companies, Liberia Wood Management Corporation, came up in the trial of Taylor, convicted for aiding rebels during Sierra Leone’s civil war. Taylor's activities were part-funded through the sale of what was dubbed “blood timber.”
While being tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity, Taylor was accused by prosecutors of channeling support through LWMC to the rebels, something the former president denied. A 2001 U.N. report said LWMC was attacked by opposing rebels “to discourage them from doing business with Charles Taylor.”
Merab told the AP that he had “engaged” with the Taylor but gave no details. LWMC did business with the Republic of Liberia, not with Taylor, Merab said.
“I never engaged in arms trafficking. I was one of those who was affected by this,” said Merab. “We never participated in the war, we never supported any members of the war.”
Merab also took issue with determinations by previous governments that his companies had been involved in illegal logging. In 2005, a Liberia government review found LWMC’s sizable logging concessions were illegal. The company's contract didn’t comply with the rule of law or labor laws and had tax arrears of $1.4 million, the review found. The company’s concessions were subsequently canceled.
The findings were “completely incorrect,” said Merab. “From the time I started logging, I worked within the confines of the law.”
Merab said there was no court judgement finding illegality, but rather an executive order from then President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf made without proof. Merab said some taxes were owed but it was a smaller amount than alleged.
In 2012, a scandal hit another of Merab’s companies, Bodeco. A government investigation found its contract had “many inconsistencies” and was “void for illegality.” Bodeco had more than 90,000 hectares (347 square miles) worth of logging permits revoked.
The company “knew or should have known that they were executing a contract with material falsehoods,” the review found.
Merab said that Bodeco’s concessions were awarded by the government, which then backtracked, and due process was not followed in cancelling them.
“If the government of Liberia gives something,” he said, “and later on because they felt under pressure they said ‘No, (they) were illegal,’ who’s at fault?”
As forest chief, Merab said he would work to scale back regulations.
"Sometimes regulations become too cumbersome and it stifles productivity,” he said. “Same thing with laws. Sometimes the law becomes very repressive.”

As cocoa prices surge to record highs and Central and West African growers grapple with the impact of climate change, the cocoa sector is rushing to adapt its production to the EU anti-deforestation regulation (EUDR), which will take effect from January 2025. EU consumers have particularly felt the impact of soaring prices. The bloc is the world’s largest cocoa importer, accounting for 60% of global imports, according to European Commission data. In March, during the peak sales period for chocolate in Europe, cocoa prices skyrocketed to $10,000 (€9,212) per tonne on the New York futures market, and they remained at this level as of 25 April. The surge coincided with dwindling cocoa grain supplies in key producing countries and increasing demand. The decline in production notably affects the EU’s main cocoa suppliers—namely Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Cameroon. Forecasts for the short to mid-term remain bleak. [...] Unfair distribution At the same time, cocoa growers, most of whom live in poverty, are reaping few benefits of the price rally. For instance, Ghana and Ivory Coast use centralised pricing systems, which involve setting “farmgate” prices, ensuring a baseline income for farmers but limiting their earnings during production drops. An Oxfam analysis presented at the world conference revealed that chocolate giants Lindt, Mondelēz, and Nestlé had earned $4 billion (€3.7 billion) in profits from chocolate sales in 2023. The fortunes of the Ferrero and Mars families surged to $160.9 billion (€150.44 billion) in the same period, surpassing the combined GDPs of the top world cocoa suppliers Ghana and Ivory Coast, which account for over half of global production. [...] Looming EU rules Amid these challenges, the EU’s anti-deforestation legislation looms large. Companies seeking to place on the EU market products covered by the rules — which affect cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soya, and wood — will need to prove with geolocation coordinates that they have not been sourced from deforested or degraded land after December 2020. Hanne Vandersteegen, a regional counsellor at Trias, an international NGO with roots in Belgium that supports farmers in developing countries, praised the EUDR’s objective to halt deforestation but expressed concern that it could exclude small growers. She stressed that farmers in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), an important cacao producer, could struggle to adapt to the rules, as cocoa production is less centralised than in Ghana and Ivory Coast.

29th March 1958 saw the death of Sir William Burrell.
William Burrell, the shipping magnate who amassed a giant art collection and then gave it away, is perhaps both one of the best-known names and least-known characters in Scottish philanthropy.
I first learned of William Burrell through my mum in the early 80’s, he was born into a shipping family and ran the business with one of his brothers, George after his fathers death.
In 1876 William entered the firm at the age of 15, and on his father’s death in 1885 he and his eldest brother George took over the management. the firm was already prospering, but under their shrewd direction it reached a position of international standing in worldwide tramping and in ship management.
The Burrell brothers undoubtedly had the Midas touch. George kept abreast of developments in marine engineering while William specialized in the commercial side. Their fortunes were based on a steady nerve, foresight and breath-taking boldness. The formula was quite simple. In times of depression they would order a large number of ships at rock-bottom prices, calculating that the vessels would be coming off the stocks when the slump was reaching an end. Burrell and Son was then in a position to attract cargoes because it had ships available and could undercut its rivals. Then, after several years of highly profitable trading, the brothers would sell the fleet in a boom period and lie low until the next slump occurred, it was a simple idea for them and very shrewd, none of their rivals were brave enough to take the risk and the firm went from strength to strength. It was when the firm were at there peak William became one of the most important collectors in Scotland. His interest in art went back to his youth. While still a boy he was already buying pictures, although he used to say in later years that their chief value lay in the frames.
Although it is not known what sparked off Burrell’s love of art, there were plenty of opportunities in late 19th century Glasgow for him to form his tastes. A number of collectors were to be found amongst the wealthy Scottish industrialists and shipowners of the time.
An estimate of Burrell’s early interests can be obtained from his loans to the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901, when he was the largest single lender with more than two hundred works. Their range and scope show that he was already a collector of major standing. They included medieval tapestries, ivories, wood and alabaster sculpture, stained glass and bronzes, Roman glass, 16th and 18th-century Dutch, German and Venetian table glass, silver, furniture and Persian rugs. The paintings are by too many artists to mention here without it looking like a shopping list, but Whistler, Manet and Monticello were among his purchases.
Between 1901 and 1911 little is known of Burrell’s collecting, apart from his acquisition of some fine pictures, including his first Degas. Unfortunately, at the same time he was selling as well as buying, a policy he was to continue even after the sale of the fleet had removed any major financial restrictions on the scale of his spending on art. In 1902, for example, he sent nearly forty pictures for auction, and among those sold were paintings by Daumier and Manet which are now in the United States.
From 1911 until 1957 Burrell kept detailed records of his expenditure in twenty-eight school exercise books. He made almost all the entries himself, except during the last few months when failing eyesight compelled him to delegate the task to others. These purchase books are an invaluable record of the astounding range and scale of his collecting. Although the entries tend to become more detailed as the years go by, the basic format was established on the first page of the first book. There are separate columns for date of acquisition, description, from whom the item was acquired, its price, date of delivery, insurance and whether photographed. The last column is headed “All in Order” and usually has Burrell’s initials.
Burrell was never an easy client. He was strong-minded, liked to haggle over prices and could be very cautious., well what would you expect from a canny Scot! Even dealers with whom he had done business over some years would find him seeking a second opinion on an object they were attempting to sell him. His collection is only bettered by some of the major museums across the British Isles.
Until about 1930 Burrell seems to have been buying merely for his personal enjoyment, with no thought of forming a collection which would be kept together after his death. Until then he continued to sell or exchange paintings, but in the 1930s he formed the idea not only of having a permanent collection but of handing it over to public ownership. Burrell had discussions with a number of interested parties regarding the disposal of the Collection, and eventually, in 1944, it was donated to Glasgow, the city of his birth and centre of his business activities, in the names of himself and and his wife.
A few years later he gave the then Glasgow Corporation £450,000 for the construction of a building in which the Collection was to be housed and displayed. The terms of the Deed of Gift as regards this building, however, presented difficulties. Burrell stated that it should be within four miles of Killearn in Stirlingshire and not less than sixteen miles from the Royal Exchange in Glasgow. He felt that the Collection would appear to best advantage in a rural setting and was also deeply concerned at the harm which could be caused by the high levels of air pollution then prevailing over Glasgow. The councillors and Corporation officials were aware of the problems in, firstly, finding a suitable site and then in administering a museum so far removed from the city, but attempts to persuade Burrell to make his conditions less stringent met with little success. Various sites were considered, but the issue was still unresolved at the time of Burrell’s death. It was only nine years later, in 1967, when Mrs Anne Maxwell Macdonald presented Pollok House and estate to the City of Glasgow, that a site was at last found.
Sadly, he did not live to see them in the gallery in Pollok Park, where they form such an important feature. He died at Hutton Castle on 29th March 1958, at the age of 96.
A design competition for the museum building in 1971 was delayed by a postal strike, allowing time for the eventual winning architect Barry Gasson. I have no idea why it took so long to actually get it built, but it’s size was maybe a factor. The building is the second largest post war building in Scotland, the abandoned St Peter’s Seminary at Cardross being the largest. The Burrell Collectioned opened it’s doors in 1983. So far, more than 1.3 million people have visited exhibitions
The Burrell Collection closed to the public in October 2016 in order to embark on a programme of refurbishment. It was reopened last year, after covid caused delays.

ivory, variety of dentin of which the tusk of the elephant is composed and which is prized for its beauty, durability, and suitability for carving. The tusk is the upper incisor and continues to grow throughout the lifetime of male and female African elephants and of the male Indian elephant; the female Indian elephant has no tusks or small ones. The teeth of the hippopotamus, walrus, narwhal, sperm whale, and some types of wild boar and warthog are recognized as ivory but have little commercial value, because of their small size. Elephant tusks from Africa average about 6 feet (2 metres) in length and weigh about 50 pounds (23 kg) each; tusks from Asian elephants are somewhat smaller. The elephant’s tusk grows in layers, the inside layer being the last produced. About a third of the tusk is embedded in the bone sockets of the animal’s skull. The head end of the tusk has a hollow cavity that runs for some distance along its interior, but the tusk gradually becomes entirely solid, with only a narrow nerve channel running through its centre to the tip of the tusk.
There are two main types of elephant ivory: hard and soft. Hard ivory generally comes from elephants in the western half of Africa, soft ivory from those in the eastern half. A hard ivory tusk is darker in colour and is more slender and straighter in form than a soft tusk. Internally, a hard tusk has more colour and is more brittle than a soft tusk, which is an opaque white and has a somewhat fibrous texture.
Ivory is a very durable material that is not easily damaged or destroyed; it will not burn and is very little affected by immersion in water. Ivory is similar to a hardwood in some of its properties. It is quite dense, it polishes beautifully, and it is easily worked with woodworking tools. Most of the ivory used commercially comes from Africa, but commercial sales of ivory declined throughout the 20th century because of the shrinking numbers of African elephants.
Poachers were largely responsible for the decimation of the African elephant species; indeed, in the 1980s alone poachers virtually halved the African elephant population. As a result, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) in 1990 banned the trade of ivory altogether. Black-market operations continued well into the 21st century, however, as the once-flourishing ivory markets of Europe shifted mostly to South and East Asia, where skilled artisans continued to carve ivory into figurines and other aesthetic objects. Meanwhile, common ivory products, such as the white tops of piano keys (“ivories”) and white billiard balls, were replaced by equivalents made of plastics or other synthetic materials. See also ivory carving.

Get You The Most From Your Real Estate Sale
Two absolute basics for selling real estate in today's market are having a realistic point of view about sales prices in the areas in which you are selling and a firm understanding of where your bottom line lies. Your bottom line, the least amount you are willing to accept for your real estate, will depend on several factors, including sales prices, and keeping these factors in mind, as discussed in the following article, can help sellers navigate their real estate sales. Also more information please click here "Home buyers in Chicago"
When selling your home and working on your curb appeal, try renting or buying a power washer. They can make your driveway or porch look almost brand-new. Also, if you have a wood porch or deck, think about staining it to look nice, clean and new.
Staging your house can be one of the most effective tools for selling in a challenging market. Keep your house as neutral as possible, removing personal pictures and painting walls ivory, light brown, or off-white. This allows a potential buyer to picture themselves as the homeowner rather than you.
Few structural features date a house more than popcorn ceilings, so removing them would be a good home improvement for people looking to sell their houses. The task should take no longer than a weekend, and once complete, you will have a ceiling that is easier to paint and repair and a house with an interior that won't turn away potential buyers.
Real estate sellers can successfully navigate today's real estate market by starting with a realistic appraisal of where they stand in the market they are selling and starting with a number in their heads representing the least amount of money they can accept for a piece of real estate. As discussed, various key factors must be considered in arriving at this bottom line number.
