@captain-aralias​ My thesis has a max. word count of 12000 words, which is already a lot. I cut down quite some parts so I am around 11000 words now, but I do have some things I need to add. So we shall see. I am more confident about it, though, cause first I had around 14000 words.

I did discuss earlier that I am free to e-mail the finished thesis to whoever I want and I can submit it to the thesis repository, but my thesis is in Dutch. I love the concept of @carryonthroughtheages. Thank you @bazzybelle for making an event to inspire my favourite kind of content. Once I post this, I can't wait to enjoy everyone else's wonderful offerings!

I chose Victorian England as my time period and worked with an illustration from “Punch, or the London Charivari”, Volume LXVIII (68), published in London in 1875. I thought that the original image had some queer undertones just waiting to be dialed up. Click on the link to see the similarities and differences of the source and completed piece.

I also wrote a 4K fic to accompany the art. A Subtle Bravery is up on ao3.

Stitch Sunday

Happy Sunday y'all! I am done with school (just a few meetings and cleaning out my classroom left...) and cannot wait to catch up on missed sleep and missed fics.

If you are all caught up on The Eternal Life of Baz Pitch, you know what is coming next chapter. I've given this a lot of thought since I finished this fic back in April, and I just don't think there is any way to preview Simon's story and do it justice. It is also the only chapter that truly requires a content warning. So, no snips this week. Sorry!

Instead, because you are going to need it come Friday, have some adorable comfort. I was inspired by @iamamythologicalcreature's recent Mer-May art and decided to make a hand-stitched MerSnowbaz this past week. I know Mer-May is over, but merSimon and merBaz are sequin-y and gay, so they must count for pride, yeah?

If I make any progress at all on my current WIP, I might post a snip on Wednesday. This new concept is good but a bit of a headache, so we'll see if it ever sees the light of day...

If not, I may abandon writing and pursue becoming a textile artist instead because it is currently bringing me far more joy.

Baz has plenty to worry about at the beginning of his sixth year at Watford School of Magicks: the fact that phones and the internet have been banned, the workload required to get top grades, and most of all his annoyingly handsome roommate, Simon, who’s so on edge and distracted that he’s ignoring Baz. Determined to get Simon's attention in a way that doesn't involve (too much) violence, Baz starts sending Simon anonymous notes. Initially insults and practical jokes, Baz finally sends one intended to help, and finds himself pulled into Simon’s latest adventure in search of the six hares.

Good morning! Thank you @monbons for the tag! I'm still buzzing from @palimpsessed's remix of my COC artwork, it's truly stunning!

The kids are back in school and the house is quiet again. It was a little harrowing at first because I was behind on sewing Littlest Purple's uniform, so I was sewing the next day's outfit the night before. Towards the end of the week, I caught up and eventually found the time to draw.

My CORB concepts are submitted and I can't wait to see what everyone has come up with! After a pivot on my artwork for chapter 3 of Time Will Lie Down & Be Still, I'm plugging away and I'm much happier with the results. Here's a peak of the good old Baz Pitch Sneer™ and the beginning of chapter artwork!

The tiniest bit of a tattoo is gonna be visible on Dev, so did I design a whole ass tattoo? Of course I did! @blackberrysummerblog and I threw around some ideas and I also grabbed some inspo from the fic, Sword of Mages Tattoo. If you're curious, I used coriander, oleander and camellias.

This really made me want to get another tattoo, so maybe I'll get off my butt and finish my Vegas vampire concept

hey, what's up— *record scratch* *freeze frame* yep, that's me. posting a wipsday for the first time in months. you're probably wondering how i ended up in this situation.

lmfao no but yeah ngl i've mostly just been chilling on my own a lot lately. like, don't get me wrong. i love winter. but i would love it a whole lot more if it didn't marinate me in darkness sixteen hours a day, yk?

n e way i posted the first chapter of Without Sun a few days ago after having it sit completed in my drafts for over six months, and i already have the next 10k words written but it's still in shambles, i've gotta cut this whole chunk out the middle and rewrite it from scratch bc the pacing is off and i'm trying to do something really specific with Agatha in this chapter that i dunno if i'll be able to pull off—

and so i've opted to completely ignore it to inaccurately draw this scene from the first chapter instead. happy wednesday!

i dunno if i'll finish this bc i'm trying to do a whole bg thing here but i'm crap at backgrounds and learning new things is hard, but like fuck it we ball.

Happy Sunday, everyone! We’re almost halfway through October, can you believe it? Thank you for the tags on Wednesday and today, @monbons, @wellbelesbian & @drowninginships, and to everyone who’s been tagging me lately. I haven’t written as much as might be hoped, but I’ve become very wrapped up in learning to knit this past month & a half. I’ve been learning mostly from reading and pestering @rimeswithpurple with questions every night, & her endless patience is probably the only reason I’m now at the point where I may be able to start my first project—it’s a cowl, & I’ll only be thrilled just to try something beyond the basic stitches that it took me ridiculously long to learn, lol.

But, I have done some writing, so here’s a bit from Chapter 4 of Time Will Lie Down and Be Still. It was really fun to show a light-hearted Baz-Dev interaction, since the story’s had some tense parts up til now. Dev POV:

“Did you know he swings both ways? A mage and a slut.”

I narrow my eyes and draw in a breath, and suddenly the whispering turns to croaks—the old bullyfrog spell I used to threaten classmates with back in the day. “Baz!” I hiss, scandalised. 

“Wasn’t me,” he says flatly. 

“Well I didn’t do it!” I press the back of my fist against my mouth and when I turn to Baz, he’s doing the same. We collapse against each other in a fit of ill-concealed giggles while Tessa and Timothy Avondale croak in wide-eyed horror.

Hello hello! Thank you to everyone who's been tagging me over the last couple of weeks. It's been a feast of good CO WIPs and a struggle, the best kind, to keep up.

I'll post Chapter 9 of Basil Pitch's Diary on Friday. I'm super excited, but also a little 😬 because Chapter 10 is only half written and I really won't want to leave you hanging after 9. Time to go balls to the wall!

Meantime, here's a Ch 9 snippet. Baz is still out dancing with Dev and Niall. Tags below the cut.

“Care to dance?” asked the man already dancing with me. His accent could have sizzled ants on the pavement.  Fucking hell. He was posher than me. I nodded curtly, and we began.  Puh-puh-puh-poker face puh-puh-poker face. I ignored Dev’s voice in my head. (“Poke ’er face? I hardly know ’er!”) Something about my dance partner’s movements told me that he too learnt to waltz before he grew pubic hair. I felt my body mirroring his, spine straight, elbows out. His movements became even crisper in response. At this rate we’d be minueting to “Bad Romance.”

This is SUCH a great remix!!! I absolutely love your idea of showing what a force he still is, despite no longer having magic! The stretched-out shirt is a fantastic touch. The toned paper works wonderfully, too - gives it a washed-out, monochromatic kind of look, just like how he feels in those days on the sofa. Really lovely stuff, 🥺 Thank you for choosing my piece!

Carry On Art Remix

When I first saw this art by @krisrix , I wanted to spend hours staring at it. I wanted to trace it. I wanted to eat it. So I jumped right away at the chance to remix it for @coartremix. Seriously, I was so excited that I started making drafts as soon as I sent in my selection.

To me this Simon at his most clean-cut hero. He's in his uniform, wearing his cross and wielding the Sword of Mages. He's full of magic and purpose, sure that he's doing the right thing. Kris' digital colour effects make him look almost painfully magical, right before he goes off.

Since I was going to do this in a traditional medium, I decided to take away the magic. This is a Simon who's older and sadder. His hair's a mess, he's wearing an old, stretched-out top and using a broomstick as a weapon. It's not actually a scene from canon, just more the vibe of Simon after his magic and purpose were gone. But his expression is unchanged. He's still just as dangerous.

Read for school. Even though I’m only ever here on summers or school breaks, it takes work to make it to the top of the class. I’ll be damned if I let Bunce take it from me without a fight.

Read for pleasure. Might as well, considering it isn’t a guarantee he’ll come just because I’m out here. And it’s not like I fancy letting my father see me reading The Notebook anyways.

Hunt. Because it’s the woods. Obviously.

Text Niall and Dev in our group chat. They’re both currently on holiday with their families and instead of letting on that I miss them terribly, I just send them disparaging comments about their Instagram posts. Yesterday, it was in response to a particularly slutty selfie Dev posted of himself lounging by a pool in a pair of very short swim trunks.

Snazzy Bazzy: Who are you dressing to impress anyway? Your mum?

Stitchy Sunday

We’re hitting the road soon for the beach, so figured I’d get my post out there before I go off the grid for a bit. No previews of Eternal Life this week. Sorry about the mean cliff hanger last chapter, but we are in the home stretch and this final chapter is really a work of art (if I may toot my own horn). I don’t want to ruin the absolutely perfect pacing and emotional tension with snippets (even if I could somehow find non-spoiler-y bits…). Instead, here is more squishy and adorable SnowBaz. This week, I finished up dolls for one of my favorite fics. @thewholelemon is a genius and created the most beautiful Bible AU—Where he was, there was Eden. If you haven’t read it, you absolutely should. The prose is delicious and the story is profound and moving. I love it so much.

I also started but have not fully finished dolls for Basil Pitch’s Diary by @bookish-bogwitch. Obviously I made Bunbaz (see below)—but this is a transformation fic soooo human Baz is still in progress. If he’s done by Wednesday, I’ll post them all!

Anywho, my sewing project pace will likely slow down over the next two weeks as I take time to relax, recharge, and meet fandom friends. I will likely use that time to re-read fic favorites and plan future projects.

It was idiotic, honestly, something his little sister would come up with. But he could imagine Snow hurrying to put on his trousers the right way, only to notice (or hopefully not notice) that there was nothing wrong with them in the first place. And he could imagine Snow looking around to find him, because he liked to blame Baz for every little misfortune he encountered, at least when he couldn’t blame the Humdrum.

Maybe notes were the key to Snow’s attention.

Baz muttered a spell and smiled.

It was going to be an interesting year.
