Rand: Is it running-through-the-airport kind of love?
Mat: I’m not going to the airport. She’d think I’m insane
Rand: I’m just saying—
Mat: The airport?! How would I even find her? You can’t get through security without a boarding pass
Rand: No, I wasn’t suggesting that you—
Mat: I’d have to buy a dummy ticket just to get through the gate. I don’t know when her flight is, or which terminal
Mat: Imagine if I knew that. Imagine her finding out I knew all that. Imagine she was buying a pair of tweezers in Terminal 5 and suddenly I was there: “Heyyy!”
Rand: Yeah, okay, that would be intense
Mat: The only person I’d run through an airport for is you!
#i confess#ive only read the first half of the first book#and watched the tv series#But this is the vibe I get#mat cauthon#rand al'thor#wot#wot on prime#incorrect wheel of time quotes#incorrect wot quotes

No bc Warrior Cats genuinely couldve done something with Starclan and generational trauma and romanticising "old times" and the warrior code because Starclan arent deities theyre just dead people but instead we get another 6 books of Will They/Wont They with a TigerStar clone
#Warrior Cats posting on a saturday afternoon#To clarify i havent read anything past PO3 but i do follow most of the plots n discussions n stuff bc i think its fun#Ive only read The first 3 arcs + Firestar's quest + Tallstar's Revenge <3#also crookedstars promise but i have no memory of anything that happened in it#i read the first like half of the first book of oots and just COULDNT get through it#BUT ANYWAY. THEY SET UP SO MANY THINGS#AND THEY COULD ADDRESS THE SEXISM (although thats a problem with the authors not just the characters) AND THE CONSTANT ABLISM OF SHOVING-#ALL THE DISABLED CHARACTERS INTO THE MEDICINE DEN#We all like Jayfeather. But did he need to be a medicine cat#and if the answer is yes. Did Cinderpelt also need to be a medicine cat#And idk whats going on with Briarlight but my understanding is she just stays in the medden???#YEAH#and they couldve talked about Skyclan too#Beverly says stuff#warrior cats#warriors

I think there's some irony to the witcher books that while Ciri is the main character - it is all about her - the only reason the books etc have had the success they do is because it's from a man's perspective. If the books were from Yennefer's pov they definitely wouldn't have had the reach they do, and if they were wholly from Ciri's pov I doubt they'd be much more than a beloved but overlooked ya fantasy. I adore the Tamora Pierce books - Ciri's story isn't too far from Alanna's and yet there's not the same audience/ reach for Tamora Pierce.
#they speak#the witcher#the witcher books#im aware that the books had an english translation before the games but the games really made the books the phenomenon that they are#im not saying either that the books would have been better if they were from ciris pov#and that tp's books are ya not adult so ofc there's not the same reach - but most of the characters are adults for most of the books#they could have very easily been for an adult audience but would they have been published?#yes im aware that ciri does have a good chunk of pov in boe and tos is basically her book - but i think that reinforces the point#she gets half the first whole book and only gets her own book when there was an established audience#and yes im aware that tp has big reach but not nearly the same as the witcher#tp is big in the us yes but id never heard of her until one of my friends introduced me and let me read her copies from the us#and i was a huge reader as a kid - she just doesn't have the same international audience#i can't get her books from my local bookshops without ordering them - i know ive tried

picked up a copy of and read the king in yellow (signalis reasons) and going in was like hmmmmm this probably wont end up being something i take inspiration from for the fic it’d be too on the nose to take inspiration from the king in yellow and i dont want much horror inspiration haha. and then like half of the book is romance anyways im so fucked either way yayyyy
#good book not the best idea to advertise it solely based on the king in yellow parts bc its only present for less than half the book#anyways i miiight do sole stuff with ideas of madness and forbidden knowledge and whatever#obsession is easy i can probably fold that in with the biology stuff. the more plot focused stuff is still fuzzy#salty talks#anyways my favorites were the first and fourth stories tho the one with the cat is also good#trying to figure out how it related to signalis beyond. being literally present. rn im just getting theme inspiration#ive read it once and just watched a letsplay lf the game i think a yter was gonna do vids on the book and then signalis#also. not used to actually seeking out and reading a book that something alludes to and uses the way signalis does the king in yellow#so im just sitting here like. ok what do i do with this now. i have a new book. with surprisingly fun romance for a late 1800s book#i was not in it for the romance and even now im more a fan of the former half of the book but honestly? the romance was kinda cute#the interactions between the characters in the romances were cute it surprised me that i kinda found them fun#this is me talking abt rhe bellum x linebeck fic btw. but also did get the book bc of doomed yuri symbolism and themes

Reading shit comics kind of sucks but at least I get the satisfaction of proving my own point w this
#like damn if i really was 100% right about this before i even knew what i was talking about#anyways one of the many many problems with new 52 wonder woman is the fact that diana isnt religious enough#also that azzarello and chiang are incapable of imagining a feminist utopia which is the original genre that wonder woman comics were based#in in the same way that batman for example is connected to the noir genre. and the mythological aspects of the og wonder woman comics were#in fact a common framing aspect of the feminist utopia genre of the progressive era (with many of the deeper greek mythology aspects being#established as the foremost ww genre later on)#anyways this failure to understand this layering of genres in the ww mythology i believe is the principle contributor of why this run which#is popular with many and has such a footprint in other more mainstream media is hated by so many longtime wonder woman fans in that it not#only neglects but actively goes against key parts of her premise#a comparison could be made to a superman run that is heavily based in science fiction and exploring deep sci fi genre plots without any#understanding by the creators of why it matters that superman is champion of the oppressed and disrespecting that core part of him by in#some ways making him actually go against that in service of the high sci fi genre plots and conflict#and then ofc to translate better in this reality this run would function like a can of worms in that while dc in comics would eventually#course correct back to the base version the public opinion would become divided and especially adaptations would need all the canon changes#from that run torn viciously out of their hands bc they refuse to LET IT GO#anyways yeah teehee i swore to someone id never read it but i needed it for fic research purposes unfortunately so i started it. only read 6#issues but meh. first one wasnt terrible tbh id read worse but after that i got much more unhappy#anyways they simply dont understand why people like the amazons or why people should like the amazons. which again is like half the freaking#point bc like. feminist utopia genre. but i digress#its bad but its bad in a way that proves me right about why its bad so at least theres that#someday when i post my rebirth ww fic ill post the analysis of nu52 ww and the comparison to the beat movement/ginsberg that ive got in my#drafts. finally get that A in comic book literary analysis#blah

character wrapped 2023 💥
tagged by @davidtennantpussytulpa ^-^ i didn't know how many to do so i copied tara and did top 10. i know the severance guys are Four Of Them but i can't separate them theyre all equally important to me
will graham (hannibal), em haywood (nope), aziraphale (good omens), mark & dylan & helly & irving (severance), hawkeye pierce (mash), martha jones (doctor who), ivan karamazov (the brothers karamazov), kim kitsuragi (disco elysium), stewy hosseini (succession), ruescott melshi (andor/rogue one)
i will tag... @fagician @britomart @libraryfag @roadwhores @majorbaby @globuspolski @hadleyfraserfaggot @tenderscience if u want to ^-^
#and now i will explain them all in detail#cos i started watching hannibal back in like. january or february and will immediately set up camp in my head and started to settle there#*I* pay rent to *HIM*. he lives there permanently. sweating and monologuing constantly#em was not only the character of 2022 but also of 2023 and of 2024 and the rest of the decade and all decades to come#she had such an impact on me keke palmer's performance will live with me forever and i love nope so fucking much#i almost didnt include her because nope was more of a last year obsession. but she lives on#aziraphale.........no comment#severance.......i love them all so much and at first i wanted just irving and then just helly and then i realise i cried over mark this week#and then i realised i couldnt possibly leave out dylan when hes probably my favourite character. so then i settled for all of them#hawkeye is my fucking wife. enough said#martha... well i knew i had to have a doctor who character. i thought maybe the doctor but then i thought their companions mean more to me#sometimes at least. i did have a fourteen icon for a while but then i was like but Donna..... and then i thought. well#these past few months at least martha jones has been eating away at my heart. i go batshit insane when i think about her#her impact. her grace. her power. so she had to go on the list.it was a toss up between her and donna for sure though#then i figured i had to include a karamazov since reading that book took up half of my year. and ivan was my favourite of the 3. so <3#kim goes without saying. literally nothing to be said hes the character Of All Time. to me#stewy also goes without saying ive had so many Stewy Save Me moments since the beginning of season 4 all the way to the end of the year#i miss him every day. he is the moment. i wish there was more of him all the time#and the last one is a bit of a wildcard cos all my insanity abt melshi has been on my andor sideblog.#but rest assured ive been thoroughly Not Normal about him. he literally side appears in 4 episodes and has 11 total minutes onscreen#but i love him. so much. and hes occupied most of my thoughts since september. once again his impact his power his grace. his homosexuality#enough said. that's all. thanks for reading. this was a great year for autism and madness#tag game#🍪

#accidentally slept through my only class today#which whoops sorry. (my 9am english)#which kind of killed step 1 of a plan of mine but thats okay#anyways THEN i had to go downtown to pick up this award bc i forgot to show up to the ceremony like a dumb dumb#but the building was like a 25 minute walk and it was COLD (punishment for my dumb dumbness tbh) but anyways i got there early so i walked#around the block and then went inside and picked up my medal#and i was already far downtown so then i popped my head in a couple of stores as i slowly walked back#got a few things from target. new hair clip nail polish m&ms pens and then a mango. very excited to eat that either later today or tomorrow#then i popped in the calligraphy store and then the comic shop and looked around. saw some white ribbon in the calligraphy store which ive#been looking for but didnt get it because it was a bit wide and kind of expensive and i want a lot for my project idea#(want to write out some of my favorite poems on them in sharpie and then use it to accessorize)#and then i went to the comic shop and peeked around. saw a nubia issue and a few gl 2021s in the discount bin but i didnt get them bc#they were all middle issues and i havent read those books yet although i do want to someday bc my guys were in them. one of the gl 21s even#had simon on the cover so i was very !!!!!!!! thats my guy!!!!!#didnt buy anything there but i did ask the guy to make sure to order a copy of the spirit world tpb so ill stop by to get that in a few wks#and then i went to the bookstore cafe and got a cold brew and did a but of English there. they have tables in the stacks its nice. the one i#grabbed was just surrounded by old paperbacks of sci fi and thrillers lol. didnt see anything id read but recognized a few author names like#card (no enders game though) and the pern lady (idk her name i havent read it). anyways did half a blog post thats technically late (ill#backdate though dw) and then packed up and i grabbed a gyro from the halal cart on that block which i just finished back at my dorm <3333#anyways good times. now im gonna try and spam some work and go to freaking trivia team for the first time in a month later. oops#blah#oh and i think the halal cart guy may have given me a free soda. unsure abt that though bc its possible it came with and i was just being#silly again. so anyways i had a ginger ale too

ive managed to read 6 books this year but they're almost all novellas so idk if that counts. but i AM beating the illiterate allegations
#one of them was a short story collection lol#only one actual full length book. rip#i am also reading 2 books but i keep just reading novellas while ignoring them#and another short story collection but it's been my 'work reading' so it's taking me forever cus i just read it on break at work lmfao#im trying to read more horror and im finding a lot of more interesting stuff in the indie published short stories#even if ive been kinda disappointed by most of them#but less in a 'this is misogynistic/racist' usual horror book way and more in a it's good in the first half but kinda fumbles the end#if that makes sense. lol#anyways my favorite so far has been to be devoured

Mayfair Witches production value felt like a cross between a CW show (random slow popish song during dramatic moments) and the newer Lifetime adaptation of Flowers in the Attic (my guilty pleasure).
#ive only read the first mayfair book#got a little into the second but didnt get very far#i liked the first mayfair book!#but this show.....yikes#listen i love flowers in the attic show and the weird prequels and sequels but it's just incest drama#and that's half of mayfairs too#i wasnt expecting hbo or netflix quality production#but it looked so cheap#the cgi (which im a snob of) looked pretty god awful#and the intro was interesting in concept just so poorly executed#i'll watch the season because im a glutton for punishment#and i want to see what amc thought they bought the rights to#i cant critique amc's butchering of anne's work if i dont watch#hulu iwtv

oughh I agree so hard with you w/ death stuff. Tbf I've never actually seen a dead body close up or had someone close to me die so idk if my feelings will change after that but I think we're a part of nature and should return to nature after death
YA ive only ever seen dead bodies who have been prepared (in person at least, ive seen pictures of unprepared bodies) so yk. but ive lost a couple of family members and i just think likee. speaking from experience when you dont have the time with the deceased to process the death. it makes it sm harder to like. Feel your grief. bc yr so pushed into the like. Well the funerals over so grieving is done
#theres jusr sooo much.#IDK if yr aware but caitlin doughty (ask a mortician on youtube) has a couple of rly good books on death ive only read her first 2 (the 3rd#is on hold rn 🙏🙏) that i highly recommend ALSO obviously her yt channel... her videos r rly rly rly insightful#shes a huge advocate of green burial (she owns a green burial funeral home) so i think a lot of her stuff could be rly relevant to you!#specifically i recommend her video reacting to famous film corpses MAINLY rhe second half of the video#where she visits a facility (idt thats quite the word) where they make animal feed blocks out of cremated remains#i saw u mention youd like to be eaten by animals after death and currently with all the legal stuff i thjnk thats one of the best/only ways#2 do that rn :]] ALSO her 2 human composting videos r less abt feeding animals and more abt feeding plants obviously. but still very#interesting and ties into the returning to nature stuff...#APOLOGIES IF U ALREADY KNOW HER. shes one of my idols DNFNFJNF so i shill 4 her every chance i get#i love love love her videos basically. highly recommend her cannibalism trilogy as well.. a lot of her videos r judt very insightful#a2t

curse my habit of only buying the first book of a series in case i dont like it
#most of the time its helpful#and then i find a book i really like and domt have the rest#i hate buying things online but in this case idk when i can go to barnes and noble next so#hopefully by the time it gets here the semester will be over#this is a problem for another day tho#i cant get on my computer rn#michi tag#this is to say im almost done with the book which is impressive considering how fucking busy ive been#i usually read faster than this especially if its something interesting#if i had my way i wouldve finished over the weekend 🙄#im like a little more than halfway done#according to storygraph its 62%#speaking of books i really need to finish house of leaves#i still have no idea where its going#cant even tell whats real or not which i suspect is the point?#but yeah i tend to only buy the first book of a series just bc half the time i dont like it enough to buy the whole series?#i usually check out in the library first like still the first book and them later if i like it the rest of the series#and if i like it enough id buy it the next time im at a bookstore#and of course in the library i usually check out a stack of first books in a series#half the books in those stacks i font like anyways thats how it usually goes#when i was younger and inwould go to costco with my parents i would head to the book section and sometimes buy a book there lmao#man i wish i had the same childish whimsy that let me check out like seven books from the library#and even return them a week before the due date#like what was i on genuinely i want that back#people sometimes ask me why i always look at the ground when i walk and tbh like 20% of that is bc i trip a lot and the other 80%#is bc i would read and walk so much as a kid its just an ingrained habit now#i think i got off topic oop
