#ive been thinking about her more than usual lately

Im an exotic animal rescuer, not by trade but just for fun. i prefer to take in non- avian reptiles and small animals like rabbits but push comes to shove ill take just about anything for a short period.
anyways I got a call from a local shelter, they told me they had a goat surrendered to them, weird but i have an acreage and i assuming i didnt want to keep it i could probably find a new home for it easily.
I noticed something was weird when I went to pick him up. He was a little goat, probably a pygmy mix with mostly black fur and little horns. He looked entirely normal but immediately i felt like something was off. Being at an animal shelter is a scary experience, especially for prey herd animals like goats, usually they would be cowering or prone to aggression, but he just let me take him. He had a sort of confidence that I had never seen in an animal before.
I sort of assumed he was just a very well loved pet, they said he was surrendered by an old woman who said he belonged to her late daughter, the strange confidence of the animal could be explained by him being a very good pet, brought around strangers and comfortable in new situations. That’s what i tried to tell myself.
I brought him into my house, i didnt have a pen set up yet but my bathroom had been home to chickens and cats and once even a deer temporarily. he let me carry him and when i put him down he looked me straight in the eyes. not in the eyes like turning his head to one side to look at me but straight on, the way a dog looks you in the eyes. his eyes followed me as I set up the bathroom for him. dead quiet. No fear.
I close the door and leave him in the bathroom. I needed to get back to work, I work from home so it’s flexible enough that i can leave in the middle of the day to pick up a goat but I still should get my work done in time. I sort of forgot about the goat, until i heard my cat screeching in the other room.
My cat was an elderly calico who i rescued when I was just a teenager, she had quite a few things wrong with her, having absolutely 0 self preservation instincts or hunting drive, when in university my parrots were free roamed during the day alone with her. Stupid but she literally didnt seem to realize she could attack them. I think she may have had some sort of brain damage, because genuinely she was strange.
anyways, her screeching is not too unusual, i walked out, expecting she had once again gotten herself tangled in something or stuck somewhere. She loped over as she saw me, still screaming. she was bleeding.
The goat was in the kitchen, blood around his mouth. he looked at me with those predatory, very ungoatlike eyes. he opened his mouth, it opened much larger than it should have been able to, like his face was splitting open. He began to charge at me.
I was nearly blind with panic, not that ive never been attacked by an animal before, but this was different. unexpected. impossible.
I managed to lead him outside, suffering only a bite to the leg. All day he stood outside the door, like he knew i was in there. like he was waiting.
he left at some point during the night when the coyotes got louder. I brought my cat to the vet but it was too late. I went to a walk in clinic and got a rabies shot. They said it looked like a fox bite.
One of my favorite ways the Hunt manifests is by turning a prey into a predator. Delightfully unexpected every time. The wrongness of it makes the horror more potent.

stolen affection | y.jw

pairing: husband!jungwon x wife!reader
synopsis: caught in a swirl of tender jealousy, you can’t help but feel left out when your husband showers all his attention on your daughter. but when night falls and it’s just the two of you, jungwon reminds you in the sweetest way that no matter what, you’ll always be his number one.
warnings/others: you both have a daughter in this one🤭, clingy and jealous reader🫵🏻, MANLY MATURE JUNGWON MWAH *chefs kiss*
wc: 1.3k
a/n: idk why ive been thinking about husband!enha lately maybe im just desperate for a husband now *sobbing*💔 butttttt, happy reading loveliesss🎀 here’s my masterlist!

okay, so you’re not actually jealous of your three-year-old daughter. not really. but can anyone really blame you? she’s been glued to jungwon since the moment she woke up, hogging all of his hugs, kisses, and attention like it’s her life’s mission. you’re happy that they have such a sweet bond, of course you are, but… is it so wrong to want some of your husband’s affection too? just a little?
you watch from the doorway as she curls herself into jungwon’s lap on the couch, her tiny arms wrapped tightly around his neck. jungwon, ever the doting dad, smiles down at her and presses a kiss to the top of her head, his dimples making an appearance. and what do you get? a quick glance and an absentminded, “hey, babe.”
“hey,” you reply flatly, crossing your arms as you step into the living room.
jungwon doesn’t even notice your tone, too busy entertaining the little one in his lap. she’s giggling as he pokes her cheeks, and it’s undeniably adorable, but that’s beside the point.
you clear your throat loudly, hoping to catch his attention, but your daughter beats you to it. “daddy, do the funny voice again!”
“of course, princess,” jungwon says, his voice suddenly shifting into a goofy, high-pitched tone that has your daughter dissolving into laughter.
you narrow your eyes. “you know, i like funny voices too.”
jungwon glances at you, amused. “oh? want me to do one for you?”
“not funny voices. just attention,” you mutter under your breath, but he doesn’t catch it.
with a sigh, you try to reclaim some of the spotlight. “hey, sweetheart,” you call to your daughter in your sweetest voice, “don’t you think it’s time for a little nap? mommy can tuck you in.”
she looks at you like you’ve just suggested she eat vegetables for the rest of her life. “no nap! i want daddy!”
jungwon grins, pulling her closer as if to seal the deal. “looks like i’m in high demand today.”
“yeah, lucky you,” you mutter, your pout growing deeper.
jungwon chuckles, clearly thinking you’re joking. but you’re not. not even a little.
as the day goes on, your daughter doesn’t relent. every time you try to coax her away from jungwon, she clings to him harder. by dinnertime, she’s practically fused to his side, and your patience is wearing thin.
jungwon, oblivious as ever, ruffles her hair and says, “you’re such a daddy’s girl, aren’t you?”
“yep!” she chirps, shooting you a victorious little grin.
you glare at her. okay, maybe you are a little jealous of your own daughter.
as bedtime finally rolls around, you’re left feeling more than a little neglected. and it doesn’t help that jungwon, being the affectionate husband he is, crawls into bed with his usual grin, ready to pull you into his arms like always.
but this time, you turn your back to him.
jungwon blinks, surprised by the cold shoulder. “huh? what’s this?” he asks, inching closer.
“nothing,” you reply, your tone clipped.
he hums, clearly unconvinced. “nothing? then why aren’t you letting me hug you?”
“just too tired,” you mumble, hoping he’ll drop it.
but jungwon, ever the teaser, smirks. “ah, i see,” he says dramatically, flopping onto his back. “too tired for me, huh? alright then, i’ll just go to sleep like this.” he tugs the covers up to his chin and lets out an exaggerated sigh. “goodnight, honey.”
you sit up abruptly, the words spilling out before you can stop them. “oh my god, jungwon, that’s not it!”
he peeks at you from under the blanket, eyebrows raised, and you suddenly feel flustered. “what’s not it?” he asks innocently, though there’s a mischievous glint in his eye.
you huff, crossing your arms over your chest. “it’s just… you’ve been ignoring me all day!”
jungwon sits up too, clearly trying to hold back a laugh. “ignoring you?”
“yes!” you say, your voice rising slightly. “you’ve been cuddling her since this morning, and you didn’t even look at me! you don’t care about me anymore!”
jungwon finally lets out the laugh he’s been holding in, his dimples deepening as he reaches for you. “oh, baby,” he says softly, his tone full of affection.
“are you seriously jealous? of our own daughter?”
“i am not jealous,” you snap. “i just think it’s unfair that she got all your attention today. i barely got a single hug!”
jungwon’s grin softens into a fond smile. “baby,” he says, his voice gentle, “you know she’s just a kid, right? she doesn’t mean to hog all my time.”
“i know,” you grumble, “but still. i’m your wife. i should be your number one priority.” his giggle grows louder as he looks at you.
your pout grow deeper at his laugh, glaring at him. “don’t laugh at me! i’m being serious.”
jungwon’s laughter fades, though his smile remains. “okay, okay. i’m sorry. come here,” he says, his voice gentle as he tugs you closer.
you let him pull you into his lap, though you’re still pouting. “you don’t care about me,” you mutter again, but your voice wavers slightly.
“that’s not true,” jungwon says immediately, cupping your face in his hands. “you know that’s not true.”
“but you didn’t even hug me today,” you whisper, your eyes dropping to your lap.
jungwon’s heart softens, and he tilts your chin up so you’re looking at him. “i’m sorry, my love,” he says sincerely.
“you’re right. i was so caught up with her today, and I didn’t realize how that made you feel. but let me make one thing clear—nothing and no one could ever replace you in my heart. you’re my number one. always.”
“didnt feel like it today,” you mutter, but your resolve is starting to crumble under his warm gaze.
his gaze softened even more, cupping your cheeks. “hey, listen to me. you’re my everything, okay? my wife, my partner, the love of my life. no one could ever take your place, not even our adorable little cuddle monster.”
you purse your lips, trying to hold onto your pout, but jungwon leans in and brushes the softest kiss against your forehead.
“i mean it,” he says, his voice dropping to a whisper. “if it ever feels like i’m not giving you enough attention, just tell me. i’ll drop everything for you. always.”
“even if our daughter cries for you?” you ask, only half-joking.
he chuckles. “even then. though i might have to bribe her with extra cookies to make it up to her.”
you look at him, a mocking glare penetrating him. “really? you would do that for me?”
jungwon smiles, leaning forward to press the softest kiss to your forehead. “really,” he murmurs. “you’re my wife, my partner, my everything. and if you ever feel like I’m not showing you how much I love you, tell me. I’ll do better, okay?”
“okay,” you whisper, your voice barely audible.
jungwon kisses the tip of your nose, then your cheeks, then finally your lips, his touch so tender it makes your heart ache in the best way. “better?” he asks, pulling back just enough to meet your eyes.
you nod, a small smile tugging at your lips. “better.”
“good,” he says, wrapping his arms around you tightly. “because you’re stuck with me, and I’m going to smother you with love until you’re sick of me.”
you laugh, burying your face in his chest. “you’re so cheesy.”
“and you love it,” he says confidently, pressing another kiss to your hair.
“maybe,” you admit, your smile widening.
“no ‘maybe’ about it,” he teases, rocking you gently in his arms.
as you settle against him, the warmth of his love wrapping around you like a blanket, you realize that he’s right. no matter how much your daughter adores him, there’s no doubt in your mind that jungwon’s heart belongs to you.

𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 - 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐝 𝐱 𝐟𝐞𝐦!𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫
𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬 the time where you had just a little too much to drink after a party at rossis and spencer takes care of you
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 alcohol intoxication, drinking, reader gets sick, emetophobia, a bit of suggestiveness (?), lots of pet names, spencer’s a sweetheart.
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 2.2k
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 suffering a bit of a writers block but i am on a roll lately. it’s like ive got all these unfinished drafts and i can’t seem to finish them ugh. im going through my request, slowly but surely!
𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 | 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭

“Come on,” Spencer urged, wrapping a tight arm around you as you clung to his shoulder as if your life depended on it. God, your head was pounding and your own body felt like dead weight as you continued carrying yourself around.
You stumbled on your feet, too intoxicated to walk straight. The sharp stiletto heel that accompanied your dress was not working in your favor either, and they were frankly becoming quite painful.
“I need to sit down,” You slurred in a hushed yet collected manner.
“One second angel,” He whispered, reminding himself not to disrupt his neighbors.
It wasn’t your fault that Rossi's parties always consisted in a very sweet, very endless supply of the most exquisite cocktails you’d ever tasted. It’s not everyday you got to taste such bougie liquor and given your big sweet tooth, and Garcia’s pesky persistence to get you to follow along her alcohol tasting spree, all those free drinks were dangerous at your disposal.
Penelope had passed over this tart but perfectly sweetened strawberry drink she had encountered and you made the grave mistake of trying it. Just when the flavors melted in your mouth, you immediately made your way to the bar in search of your own, downing that one and three more in less than fifteen minutes.
In hindsight, that was a horrible decision. Spencer knew that if he had been glued to your hip, just like he usually was at these or any social event for that matter, he’d never let you drink as much and as fast as you did. He had nagged about something with rapid absorption and rapid increase in BAC— you were too drunk to remember any of the information he was dumping your way if you were being honest.
You began slowing down once the nausea and severe dizziness settled in. Usually, you knew your limits with alcohol. You knew how much got you drunk enough to loosen up, and you knew how much was too much, thanks to a few situations where you had to learn the hard way. However, something about the sweetness and the inability to taste any alcohol whatsoever threw you off your radar.
And here you are, dragging yourself against Spencer’s body and back into his apartment, too drunk to even walk and feeling like you were about to literally throw up any and every thing in your system.
Spencer pushed the door open, managing to balance you in his other arm as he unlocked the door swiftly. He walked in with you by his side, throwing the keys into the small metal dish by the door and now using both hands to keep you steady.
You remained quiet, trying desperately to focus on keeping the nausea down and not throwing up. “Spence,”
“What's wrong?” He asked, looking down at you as you dug your forehead into his chest, grappling at his shirt with a rough tug.
“I feel really sick,” The world around you was spinning and that pit in your stomach was getting harder to push down. He matted down the top of your tousled hair, tucking a few stray strands behind your ears.
“Do you need to throw up?” He asked, voice soft and comforting.
“I think so,” The nausea seemed to hit like a tidal wave, and all you needed was to lie down. You needed to lie down. Just the mention of puking was enough to get you to gag. Immediately freaked out and panicked, you gave a persistent nod, already pushing yourself off of him and making a very crooked B-line for the bathroom, knowing you were going to throw up.
Once past the bathroom door, you fell to your knees opening the lid of the toilet and hurling the contents of your stomach into it. You gagged, retching loudly while tears pricked the corners of your eyes and everything around you hurt.
Spencer followed closely behind, crouching beside you and pulling up your hair into a messy makeshift ponytail while his other came to rub comforting circles on your back, sitting through your discomfort by your side.
It was ironic really. Spencer had always been extremely opposed to anything germ related and this seemed to be his worst nightmare. If anyone knew about this, they’d probably not be able to believe how Spencer didn’t run in the opposite direction and quite literally ran right towards you and your germ related issues. Since he started dating you, he let certain things slide. He shared more of his personal space and didn’t mind if that included sharing things he wouldn’t tend to share around others.
He never thought twice about it if it brought you comfort. It came to him naturally, putting you and your comfort and happiness first.
You spit out the remaining acidic taste of bile into the toilet and groaned heavily. Your nostrils burned and so did the back of your throat, but all of the nausea was immediately alleviated from your system.
“Mhm, sexy,” You said, reaching over for a piece of toilet paper and wiping down your mouth. Spencer huffed a laugh through his nose, pressing a kiss to the back of your head. “This is embarrassing.”
“This?” He said, voice jumping into one of fake shock. You threw a glare over your shoulder and his face immediately melted into a sweet smile, rubbing your back with just a bit more clarity. “I’ve seen you in worse predicaments,”
“How do you feel?” You turned, resting your back against the toilet after flushing the contents away and turning towards him.
“I feel better,” You mumbled, screwing your eyes shut and attempting to blink away the tears and the burning sensation of your nose.. “But I probably look very disgusting.”
He tilted his head with a shrug, wholeheartedly answering. “You don’t look disgusting,”
“Liar,” You said with narrowed eyes, smiling playfully.
He shook his head with one of his signature smiles, those that tugged slightly to the right and crinkled the corner of his eyes just perfectly. He reached up, grabbing the empty glass cup that sat on the side of his sink, and was now filled with water. He handed you the glass which you took without complaint. “Drink,”
You drank down the whole glass, wanting to get the disgusting aftertaste out of your mouth. “Better?”
“Much,” You nodded, smiling up at him, feeling instantly better but still dizzy. “I feel like, rejuvenated or something,”
You reached back to push yourself up off the ground, only for Spencer to set a firm hand on your shoulder keeping you still.
“Give yourself a minute,” He told you. “You feel better after vomiting following excessive alcohol consumption mainly due to the removal of alcohol and its irritating effects on the stomach, but you need a few seconds.”
You hummed, picking at a rhinestone on your dress. “Does that mean I should expel all my stomach's contents everytime I overdrink to feel better?”
“No,” He narrowed his eyes at you. “You shouldn’t even drink enough to get to the point of having to throw up in the first place, love,”
“But those strawberry drinks were so good Spence,” You threw your head back with a pout.
“Yeah, yeah,” He dismissed with a playful tone. He hooked his fingers around your elbows. “Up,”
You steadied yourself with a tight grip on his shoulders and winced at the bright white light of the bathroom. He pushed you back, knocking the back of your knees into the toilet and forcing you to sit down on it with a soft thud. He crouched down and reached over to knead at the straps of your heel and promptly remove them.
He set them to the side and wordlessly moved into his room, grabbing one of his spare t-shirts and making his way back into the bathroom, where you watched him with weary eyes and a very sleepy but adoring smile.
Everything felt fuzzy but just seeing him work his way around you with such ease made your heart beat insanely.
“It’s not fair that you’re so pretty,” You voiced. Spencer opened his mouth to answer but could only mustered a stammered chuckle, blushing profusely but trying to resist laughing at the slurring in your voice.
“I’m pretty?” He asked. You nodded.
“Very,” He reached his hands out, grabbing yours and pulling you up.
“Is it okay if I take your dress off?” He asked, turning you around so your back was facing him. His fingers skimmed across your already exposed shoulders and back and everything felt so heightened that you shuddered at the ghost of his touch.
“Thought you’d never ask,” You said, shooting him a suggestive smile over your shoulder. He said your name with a warning, not faltering in the slightest.
“I’m kidding!” For the most part at least.
“Well, given since you can’t sleep in this dress,” His calloused fingers traced your shoulders in a soothing rhythm. “I brought you one of my shirts but I need to take off your dress in order to put it on,”
Your body seemed to feel magnetized to the floor, pulling your every movement down with a huge weight. Which was probably the alcohol having its effect on you. You felt stupefied but all you could think of was just how tired you were.
“That’s fine Spence,” You murmured, allowing his fingers to skim down your shoulders and towards the dress's zipper. Your eyes fluttered shut, trying to rest them while his hands moved around your back.
He pulled it down, all so gently and smoothly that you were growing even dizzier than you were with more than three cocktails in you.
“I love this dress,” You stated, watching as the sleeves loosened from your shoulders and began sliding down. The cold air hit your bare skin and you merely shivered as it fell and rested on the plush flesh of your hips.
“So do I,” He smiled, slipping his own shirt over your head. You huffed as he pushed the dress down your hips, allowing his shirt to fall over your upper body and cover you as best as it could while picking up the pool of fabric from the floor and laying it out against the toilet. “You looked very beautiful.”
You really did. The way that specific black sequined dress hugged your figure in every single angle and crease possible, flaunting off your body shape perfectly, made Spencer weak at his knees. He didn’t know how he didn’t drop everything the second he saw you to pull you elsewhere private and kiss you until neither of you could breathe.
“Looked? As in past tense?” You turned, facing him with a fake betrayal plastered across your features. “That’s rude,”
“You are insufferable,” He reached back, grabbing your spare toothbrush and putting a nice amount of toothpaste on it. “Now let me brush your teeth so I can kiss you,”
You surrendered your never ending teasing with a sigh, grabbing the hem of his shirt as he held your chin tenderly, brushing your teeth. Throughout the whole three minutes, you couldn’t hold back from allowing yourself to re-learn every single scratch and line on Spencer’s face, engraving its every detail and beauty into a small space in your brain.
Once he was finished and you had rinsed your mouth out with water, you were eternally grateful that the acidic taste in your mouth and lips had been replaced with a fresh minty one. “There,”
You hummed, pulling Spencer in by the said hem of his t-shirt and tilting your chin up towards him, smiling at him like an idiot. “Hi,”
“Hey,” His hands reached up, cradling your face tenderly in his palms, pouring any and every ounce of love he had in him onto you with a firm kiss.
“My legs are killing me,” You said, nuzzling your nose into his cheek and hugging his torso. He rubbed your back with a kiss on the top of your forehead. “I want to lay down,”
“I know but I need to get your makeup off, angel,” He murmured.
You groaned, needing to just get to bed or else you’d literally collapse “You specifically know that if you leave it on overnight, the buildup of makeup, along with dirt, oil, and pollutants that you collect on your skin throughout the day accumulates on its surface and can cause skin issues and breakouts.”
You narrowed a glare. “Yeah, yeah, I guess you’re right,”
“I always am,” He smiled proudly.
“Okay now you’re just pushing it,” He reached back, grabbing a makeup removing wipe from its respective package and dragging it very smoothly across your cheeks, lips, eyes and forehead— any part of your face he could get at. You shivered at the chilliness it gave your flared up cheeks.
Spencer was so gentle with you it made your heart swell in size at just how much attention and care he put into everything he did for you. If you weren’t as tired—and as out of it— as you were right now, you really would pull him down and kiss him anywhere (and everywhere) until your heart stopped beating as much as it was. Although realistically speaking the kissing would probably cause your palpitations to worsen.
He managed to get as much mascara off as he could but the waterproof substance stuck to the bottom of your eyes with a fierce grip. He tossed the wipe into the trashcan and quickly swiped his thumbs across the bottom of your eyes with a very docile brush.
“How do I look?” You said, narrowing your eyes with humor, knowing you probably looked absolutely disheveled. Spencer cocked a brow at you, reaching back and undoing the tie that held your hair into the gorgeous updo thing you had going on.
“Absolutely breathtaking,” He still said, pressing a chaste kiss to the bridge of your nose. His hands continued working at your hair, to which you let your eyes flicker close, resisting the uncontrollable urge to moan out loud as the pads of his fingers rubbed your irritated scalp soothingly.
“I’m sorry,” Your voice came out way more breathier than intended.
“What for?” He asked, letting his hands rest on the side of your neck.
“This,” It wasn’t exactly flattering— the state he had seen you in. And for some reason you felt embarrassed at the thought of him seeing you so exposed and in some shape or form. “I don’t know I feel like I made a fool of myself,”
He furrowed his brows. “I don’t know— I feel guilty that you have to take care of me.”
“But I love taking care of you,” He murmured, instilling such a delicate tone with you that it was impossible to feel uncertain about anything. “Don’t say sorry,”
He kissed you, perfectly, just like he always did. “If you say so,”
It was true. Spencer loved, absolutely treasured, moments where he could take care of you in his own special way. Be gentle and remind you just how much he absolutely loved you.
“Am I done now?” You huffed, slumping forward as all the bones in your body begged to sleep.
“Mhm,” He pulled back, scanning you entirely. “Good to go.”

First Love
summary: you have a new admirer, alexia isn’t a fan
warnings: none
a/n: i cant remember if this was request or not so if it was i apologise but ive lost it. if not, well done me for thinking of my own plot for a change
word count: 1.2k
-
You and Alexia arrive fashionably late, because, well, it's Alexia’s family, and you’re not about to sacrifice your sanity to be early for a gathering that’s going to last an eternity anyway. She’s already stressed because she knows every cousin, uncle, and long-lost relative is going to pester her with the usual questions. How’s football? How’s the knee? When are you going to settle down and give your mother some grandchildren? Not to mention, the subtle but unmistakable scrutiny that comes with introducing you—again—like you're the new pet hamster instead of the person who’s been sleeping next to her for three years now.
You’re prepared, though. You’ve got your A-game smile, and you’re ready to nod at all the right moments while maintaining an impressive and unwavering level of small talk. You’re a pro at this by now. You can discuss the weather in ways that would make any other Briton jealous.
The event is held at a distant cousin's place—a sprawling estate that screams “we have more money than common sense.” The house is big, too big. The kind of place where you could lose a child or three and not notice until the next family reunion. The garden is a maze of strategically placed garden furniture, various expensive but uncomfortable chairs that no one sits in, and a kid's bouncy castle that looks like it was imported from the set of some cheesy Netflix original with mediocre reviews.
You’re halfway through your first glass of sangria when you notice him—a small boy, around five or six, with that messy hair that suggests he’s been on a sugar bender since eight this morning. His eyes are locked on you like you’re the most fascinating thing in the world. He’s got this look that can only be described as pure, unfiltered determination, like he’s decided, at that very moment, that you’re going to be his new best friend, and there’s absolutely nothing you or anyone else can do about it.
"He's cute," you whisper to Alexia as the boy starts to waddle over, his shoes lighting up with every step. Alexia glances at him, then back at you, her brow furrowing ever so slightly.
"Yeah, cute," she says, her tone dry enough to rival the Sahara. You can tell by the way her jaw tenses that she’s already not thrilled with this kid, which is hilarious because you’ve seen her face down a team of professional athletes without breaking a sweat. But a small child? Apparently, that’s a whole different kind of threat.
The boy—let's call him Diego, because of course his name is Diego—sidles up to you with all the subtlety of a charging bull. He stares up at you, his eyes wide and sparkling, like you’re a rock star, and he’s your biggest fan.
"Hola," he says, in that high-pitched voice only kids or cartoon characters can pull off without being annoying. Except, it’s already a little annoying, because he’s completely ignoring Alexia, and that’s a crime in and of itself.
"Hi there," you reply, keeping your tone light and friendly. You glance over at Alexia, who’s now sipping her drink with a look that suggests she’s contemplating how many more family functions she can skip without starting a feud.
Diego looks at Alexia briefly, as if she’s some sort of obstacle, then turns his attention back to you, his smile growing wider. "Wanna play?"
You blink. Play? You haven’t ‘played’ in, what, fifteen years? Maybe more? You’re more accustomed to adult games now, like “Where did I put my phone?” and “How long can I avoid doing laundry?” But Diego doesn’t seem to care. He’s already grabbed your hand, sticky fingers and all, and is pulling you toward the bouncy castle like it’s the best idea in the world.
You glance at Alexia, who’s now watching the whole thing with an expression that would be hilarious if it weren’t so serious. There’s a thin line between her eyebrows that you’ve learned means danger. You try to give her a look that says, “Help me,” but she just raises an eyebrow, as if to say, “You got yourself into this, deal with it”
Before you can protest, you’re inside the bouncy castle, surrounded by kids who are all screaming with the kind of joy only children and maniacs experience. Diego is jumping up and down, laughing like a crazy person, and you’re doing your best to stay upright, which is difficult because it’s been a while since you were five.
Outside, you can see Alexia, arms crossed, watching you with a look that’s a mix between amusement and something else—something that looks suspiciously like jealousy. You bounce awkwardly, trying to maintain some semblance of dignity, but Diego is relentless. He’s now trying to get you to jump higher, and you’re seriously starting to consider if this is how you go—death by bouncy castle.
After what feels like an eternity (but is probably just ten minutes), you manage to escape, stumbling out of the bouncy castle like you’ve just survived a natural disaster. Diego is still inside, shrieking with laughter, blissfully unaware of the drama he’s just caused.
You make your way over to Alexia, who’s watching you with that amused, slightly irritated expression still firmly in place.
"Having fun?" she asks, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Oh, tons," you reply, wiping sweat from your brow. "Best day of my life”
"You know, I’m not the jealous type," she begins, her voice low and dangerous, "but what’s mine is mine. End of story”
You can’t help but laugh, because of course Alexia would be jealous of a five-year-old. It’s ridiculous, and yet, somehow, perfectly understandable. "I think I’ve been claimed by someone else," you say, grinning. "You might have some competition”
She rolls her eyes but you can tell she’s not really mad. At least, not in the serious way. "He’s got good taste," she admits grudgingly, "but don’t let it go to your head”
"I wouldn’t dream of it," you reply, leaning in to kiss her cheek, because you know that’s what she wants, even if she’ll never admit it.
The rest of the party is a blur of forced smiles, endless small talk, and more sangria than you probably should’ve had. Diego pops up a few more times, always eager to drag you back to the bouncy castle or show you some new toy, but each time, Alexia is there, gently but firmly steering him back toward his actual family.
By the end of the night, you’re exhausted, and Alexia is finally starting to relax, probably because Diego has finally passed out somewhere, giving up on his quest to monopolise your attention.
As you leave, hand in hand, you glance back at the house, wondering how long it’ll be before you’re back here again, playing the role of the supportive girlfriend in a family that still doesn’t quite get it. But then Alexia squeezes your hand, and you realise it doesn’t matter. Because at the end of the day, what’s hers is hers, and what’s yours is yours, and that’s all there is to it.
Besides, next time, you’ll be ready. You’ll bring your own bouncy castle and show Diego who’s boss.

The unexpected hangout

𝐼 𝓃𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝓀𝓃𝑒𝓌 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝓈𝑜𝓂𝑒𝑜𝓃𝑒 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝓉 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝓌𝑒𝒾𝓇𝒹 𝒶𝓈 𝓂𝑒
(Music is intended to be played in the story, wear headphones <3) (long fic)
I grew up in this town for as long as i can remember, i wasn’t introverted, but i wasn’t an extrovert either. I spoke when i had to, leaving me with a group of friends here and there. Beginning high-school was another story, i still had my small group of friends including this one girl Momo. I don’t exactly know how i became friends with her but shes been the friendliest since i could remember.
But i find myself drowning in the sinkhole of over working, and i think she could tell because she recommended a sleepover/hangout with another one of her friends that she thought i would like. Momo is the only one i can truly be myself around so how can i expect her friend to even like me. I open to learning many subjects, although i don’t pick a favorite i like things about conspiracies or random theories to keep me up thinking.
My phone dings with a message, its from Momo
Momo👻: I’ll be at your place around 7! My friend is still coming over, trust me you and him are going to be great friends.
Me: Him? He’s a guy? You must be setting something up
Momo👻: Well I’m just saying if things between you guys progress than it is what it is but thats NOT what I’m trying to do at all🤣
Me: What if he’s really rude or something i cant handle more stress I’m too tired for this, if i wanted to have a guy friend then i would have asked.
Momo👻: No he’s not like that he’s a total nerd, he would never do anything harmful. Ive been friends with him for awhile, i talk to him about aliens and stuff all the time
Me: What makes you think i wanna deal with boys at all. I’ll try to be friends with him i guess but if he does anything that i can’t respect he’s getting out of my home
Momo👻: Alrightt no need to be so stuck up, your stressed just relax for a bit.
I stare up at the starry night and then bring my eyes to the clock, Momo is a few minutes late. But as a coincidence, she knocks at my door as soon as i have that thought. I go down the stairs to see her open the door, hmm must have been unlocked, but i remember locking.
Maybe i should be nice, ill try my best too. I mean she wasn’t worried about him or anything. Momo swings the door open giving me a big hug, i look behind her to see a boy. We make eye contact and he looks away timidly and fiddles with his hair. Momo knew i had a thing for nerds, she’s definitely setting something up.
(I was a little scared to introduce myself though…)
“This is my friend i told you about, his name is okarun!!”
He looks back up shyly, extended his hand to give me a hand shake. I give him a handshake back, flashing the tiniest smile to show the least bit of comfort. He steps closer to me to whisper something quiet enough not for Momo to hear
“M—my name is actually Ken takakura…” I nod my head to make sure Momo doesn’t think anything is up, i wonder why she calls him Okarun though. Momo yawns making her way to the living room and into the kitchen, opening the fridge to look for her favorite drink i usually keep at my place.
“Hey…y/n you don’t have any more of that drink..”
“Sorry, I’ll buy some more soon.” She walks back over to the entrance of the home where me and Ken were still standing awkwardly “its alright, speaking of which, the gas station is only a 5 minutes walk from here. I’ll go run and buy some!! My grandma gave me some money incase i wanted to get snacks!”
I look at her in despair. I whisper yell at her before she walks out the door “You’re leaving??!? Now???! Me alone with a boy??!!”
“Cmonn I’m gonna be back I’ll make it quick.” She gives me a sly wink before shutting my own door at my face. I turn around slowly, lifting my head up to look at Ken embarrassingly. He was looking at me but he shifted his gaze to some random spot in the house. I didn’t want to stand here forever..
“We can just go to my room for now while we wait…”
I guide him up the stairs towards my room, i leave background music playing to calm me and i accidentally forgot to turn it off. We enter my room and his eyes lighten up like a puppy. I had a fluffy rug, thick bed sheets many tiny figures and posters, with a neat desk and dim lights. He felt a comforting feeling as he heard the music that was left playing.
He looks around and he notices i have a book on my desk titled “conspiracy’s and theories #1: Aliens? Are they real?” I sat on my bed and i saw him approach the book for a closer inspection, his eyes glow as he looks up at me.
He realizes he touched something without asking and he places the book down quickly while fiddling with his hair again and re-adjusting his glasses. He looks down at the floor in embarrassment with a blushing face.
“I have the same book..d—do you like…aliens..?”
My goodness he is so cute. I snap out of my daydreaming after staring at him.“Well…i like reading about them. They seem cool to me and i like the unknown. I watch a-lot of documents.”
He looks up at me, with his hand still in his hair. “Do you know anything about…UAP’s and UFO’s..? I softly replied, “Yes i do read about them a little.” His eyes were in full on dull mode, he was so ready to rant. I realized he was still standing, and i was on my bed. He’s not a bad guy at all, he’s just really shy, well— so am i.
I pat the spot next to me signaling him to sit down next to me. I try to get more comfortable, i sat in a criss cross position. He looks at me with his face flushing again and he slowly makes his way to the bed, he sat in the same criss cross position facing me. His hand still in his hair obviously, his head down, he muttered…
“There have been many sightings of aliens..I—I’ve done alot of research. I should have brought my b—books but i thought that you weren’t really going to like….me..”
“Oh, i thought the same about you…that you were going to be kind of rude to me. But you like the same things as me.”
He hesitantly brings his head up to make eye contact with me, his face a pink tone due to the blush. My open window blows a cool air into the room, moonlight hitting his eyes and shining them. I avert my gaze to him to see him pondering into my eyes, his lips part as he was going to say something until we could hear the door open. It was Momo, that was really quick.
We rush back downstairs to see her with multiple bags, more than what she said she was going to buy. “Oh man, i really should have called you!! They had an amazing deal and i got so many snacks for half off!”
Me and Ken look at each-other, we slightly giggle at the goofiness of Momo. Momo ran up the stairs and came back down with a giant blanket from my closet, she places it on the couch with the snacks she bought on the table
“Cmon guys let’s watch a movie!!” I sat down with Ken trying not to be to close to make me uncomfortable, through out the movies we watched i could feel him land his attention on me. But he was very slick with it, i could hardly tell.
At the end of the night after all the movies, Momo and Ken helped clean up. Momo grabbed all of her belongings and so did Ken and they were about to leave. “Bye y/n! See you tomorrow!!”
“B—bye…” i didn’t want it to end like this… “Okarun.” He turns around and looks at me with confusion and a bit of fluster. “Could I see your phone for a sec?” He hands me his unlocked phone and i quickly type my number and my name into a new contact space and hand him his phone back. He looks at what I’ve done and his face goes from pink to a rose red. He looks up at me like his face was about to explode
It seems like he wanted to say thank you, but Momo pulled him out of the door in a hurry. The door shut on me again, but instead..i don’t feel lonely anymore. I feel a warmth entered my soul.
We could be friends…
This took forveerrr please but i love this alot like i really wanted to get the emotion in here😭🫶🏾

Ohhhh my golly I saw your Vox x daughter reader an it got me thinking now HEAR ME OUT….what if reader got bored on day an just went for a walk and somehow came across Alastor, now let’s say Alastor’s a lil confused like he never knew Vox had a daughter and readers like *sad sigh* “I’d be surprised if anyone knew” an Alastors all fatherly to her at first it was to get dirt on Vox without reader realizing but in the end he just liked hanging out with her. Eventually Vox noticed how his daughter is gone half the time but reader just convinces her dad that she’s always home and how HES the one always away. Change the ending how you see fit or do whatever you like but UGH I love your writing stay hydrated and eat wellll🩵
assjjjkkj thank youuu the amount of feedback ive gotten on this acc that ive only been posting on for like 3 days is insane, anyways this is such an interesting idea omgee
cw: reader having some emotionally absent daddy issues
fem reader
pt 1 here
ִֶָ 𓂃˖˳·˖ ִֶָ ⋆★⋆ ִֶָ˖·˳˖𓂃 ִֶָ
͙͘͡★ || so you had just gone out on an innocent walk, right?
͙͘͡★ || well, technically snuck out since your dad doesn’t like you going out by yourself.
͙͘͡★ || theres bad people out there! what if you got kidnapped or something?
͙͘͡★ || no one recognizes you, of course, since he doesn’t really talk about you let alone shows you to the public.
͙͘͡★ || you appreciate him for that, you guess, it must be annoying to not be able to go anywhere without a bunch of microphones in your face.
͙͘͡★ || you just wish he was around more! he barely makes any time for you and yeah, his work is super important and time consuming but you’re his daughter!
͙͘͡★ || lost in thought, you bump into a dude in the sidewalk.
͙͘͡★ || “whoops! excuse me, ma’am!”, he says in a weird, static-ish voice.
͙͘͡★ || your skeleton almost jumps out of your skin when you look up.
͙͘͡★ || the radio demon, the guy that your dad has had beef with since you were little
͙͘͡★ || you just stare at him with a “ :o “ look on your face, not knowing if you should run or not.
“little girl, are you, um, alright?” he stares down at you, slightly confused.
“im…uhhh…im okay!”
“you’ve heard of me, i suppose.”
“i guess…. my dad doesn’t really like you.”
“and who might your father be, hm?”
“yk the tv dude? the one thats, like, everywhere? yeah, that him.”
“hmm…interesting…i wasn’t aware he had a daughter…”
“well, he doesn’t really talk about…..”
͙͘͡★ || at this point you stop blabbing mid sentence, realizing you probably shouldn’t have said all of that to his sworn enemy.
͙͘͡★ || what if he does kidnap you and holds you for ransom?
͙͘͡★ || but he doesn’t do that, surprisingly.
͙͘͡★ || he asks you why you’re out alone so late and you shrug, saying that your dad wasn’t really there to stop you.
͙͘͡★ || you were naive and alastor was planning to use that to his advantage, not to hurt you, but to hurt vox.
͙͘͡★ || what would he think when he found out that his own daughter was buddy-buddy with his sworn enemy?
͙͘͡★ || he’d feel like a failure of a father, and thats what alastor wanted, to get under his skin.
͙͘͡★ || you guys walked while you told him everything, about him being away all the time, about you feeling lonely, while he nodded along
͙͘͡★ || you guys even stopped at one of those old timey bar places and bought you a milkshake!
͙͘͡★ || eventually you headed home, your dad hadn’t noticed you had been gone which figures.
͙͘͡★ || this became routine, you hung out with alastor and he gave you advice and stuff. you thought that if he had an ulterior motive it would’ve shown itself by now but no, it hadn’t.
͙͘͡★ || alastor himself had started to forget why he had even started all of this. he found himself enjoying your company and actually caring about you.
͙͘͡★ || after a while vox started to notice that he’s been seeing you less than he usually does.
͙͘͡★ || i mean, the tower is big but cmon! there were days where he would barely see you at all! where were you going?
͙͘͡★ || he confronted you about it at dinner one day.
“[name], dearest, i cant help but notice that i haven’t been seeing you around much lately. what’ve you been up to?”
͙͘͡★ || you pause, looking up from your food.
“i, um, dont know what you’re talking about.”
͙͘͡★ || he furrows his (virtual) eyebrows.
“is that so?”
“mhm!”
͙͘͡★ || vox is reasonably skeptical and resorts to spying on you through your smartwatch because of course you have a voxtech branded smartwatch!
͙͘͡★ || hes absolutely livid when he finds out who you’ve been sneaking out to be with and he’s waiting for you when you get home.
͙͘͡★ || you’re indefinitely grounded until he says so and he starts tracking where you go in the tower.
͙͘͡★ || he knows that its a violation of privacy and stuff but dont you see that he’s trying to protect you? alastor is dangerous! he doesn’t get how you didn’t see it earlier.
͙͘͡★ || alastor does succeed on what he set out to do, though. vox is distraught, feeling like a horrible father. he even vents to valentino about it out of all the people!
“-i mean, what kind of father doesn’t even notice their own child sneaking out in broad daylight every day? i should’ve paid more attention to her, im a failure!”
“mhm….yeah….”
͙͘͡★ || val obviously doesn’t give a shit.
͙͘͡★ || after not bumping into you for a while and seeing the up in vox slandering him online, alastor figures what happened.
͙͘͡★ || he’s glad that he succeeded in his mission to bother vox further but does miss talking to you.
͙͘͡★ || vox does vow to make more time for you and be a more attentive dad, so i guess some good comes out of this.

hello love, ive been reading your writing recently and i love how you write the players personalities exactly as i imagine them to be!!
ive had an idea that i think you would write perfectly, of alessia adopting a puppy, but as lessi is so clumsy and forgetful, she accidentally leaves out a big bag of crisps and her ‘demon puppy’ as she would call it, eats the whole bag
lessi freaks out and takes it to the nearest vet (aka us) before training and is basically being being a flustered and blushing mess, when she gets to training people pick up on her still tinted cheeks and manage to trick her into gushing about the ‘cute vet’ she met that morning
it could end with lessi returning to awkwardly asking us on a date
thankyou love 🤍
four legged wingwoman II a.russo
"-no you cannot come over for dinner again!" alessia rolled her eyes, pacing around her room with her phone squished in between her shoulder and her ear. "and why not!" vic gasped in offence on the other end of the line.
"because if its not you its one of the other girls. i've had a rotating door of dinner guests almost every single night since i got willow and i want time with my puppy alone!" alessia laughed, her team mates adoring her ten week old puppy just as much as she did, which was making it difficult for her to get any one on one time with her.
"because she is so cute and most of us do not have dogs lessi, you are being selfish!" vic whined, but the blonde held firm in her decision just as she had when lia and leah had tried to invite themselves over tonight too.
"i will literally see you in an hour pavlova, goodbye!" alessia rolled her eyes at the girs insistent begging and ended the call, tossing her phone onto the bed. "now where the hell did i put it?" the striker frowned, hunting around for her spare training top with the other one in the wash.
as adorable as willow was she was the furthest thing from well behaved and was right in the peak of her naughty puppy phase.
if she wasn't chewing things up she was running around with them in her mouth and dropping them all over the house, meaning alessia could barely keep track of anything and as soon as she'd put it down it was being moved.
but the ten week old chocolate lab had the most alluring eyes she'd ever seen so of course alessia could never stay mad at willow as infuriatingly cheeky as she was.
speaking of it was suspiciously quiet as alessia dropped to her knees and sighed in relief finally tugging her training top out from under the bed, huffing at the small teeth holes in the hem of the collar.
"willow!" the blonde called out, frowning when she didn't hear the usual scattering of her nails against the floorboards as she'd bound over. "willow?" alessia called again, quickly changing into her shirt and grabbing her training bag off the bed.
"willow baby where are-" her eyes widened as she hurried into the living room. "oh no no no no!" alessia groaned, grabbing the puppy and tugging her head out of the xl bag of salt and vinegar crisps.
"shit you ate some of the bag too? willow!" alessia gasped realizing there was large bites from the foil as panic set in. "okay um, the vet! we'll go to the vets." alessia spoke to herself, hurrying about like a tornado grabbing what she needed.
"ah willow don't eat that!" alessia huffed, tugging her keychain out of the labs mouth and locking the door up behind them, clipping willow in safely in the passenger seat.
near certain she was breaking more than one road rule alessia sped to the closest vet clinic in record time, sending a hurried half legible voice message to lotte that she would be late to training and why.
grabbing willow out of the car alessia made a beeline inside, wincing as it begun to rain and she did her best to shield the small shivering dog inside her shirt.
finally inside alessia let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding in seeing the clinic was almost empty. "can i help you love?" a kind looking middle aged woman asked from the front desk.
"er my puppy ate a full bag of salt and vinegar crisps and most of the bag itself." alessia admitted with flushed cheeks, the receptionist nodding and making a note. "have you been here before?" the blonde shook her head and placed willow down on the floor, tight grip on her leash as the woman handed her a clipboard instructing her to fill it out.
"come on then miss trouble." alessia mumbled, moving to a free seat and maintaining her tight cold on willows leash so she couldn't wander very far. scribbling down her details her eyes would glance to the dog every few moments who didn't seem to be feeling any discomfort.
handing the clipboard back the woman added alessia and willow into the clinic system and gestured for them to sit down, informing there was only one vet in today but it shouldn't be too long a wait.
"oh god willow no!" alessia whispered with wide eyes as the puppy relieved itself right in the middle of the waiting room. "if you've brought her here for bladder control issues im afraid thats just going to need some toilet training." alessias head whipped up at the new voice.
"this must be willow then?" you smiled with amusement, grabbing a roll of paper towel from behind the desk and dropping to your knees. "no please i can do it!" alessia hurried to take it from you though a little too eagerly as she smacked her head into the vets, both of you wincing in pain.
"oh god i am so sorry." alessia apologized with wide eyes, and if her face wasn't red with embarrassment before it must have been the colour of a tomato now.
"its alright, normally its the animals who take a chunk out of me sometimes but i guess its not bad i have a little more contact with humans." you joked, standing up and offering her a hand which she graciously accepted.
"marley do you mind?" you gestured toward the remains of urine on the floor toward the receptionist who nodded, sending alessia a reassuring smile as the girl apologised over and over, dismissing her with a wave.
following after you alessia lifted willow up onto the table as you closed the door behind the pair of you, the blonde seemingly still a little shocked at how young you seemed, you couldn't have been too dissimilar in age to her if she was to go off looks.
"so what brings you here to visit me today willow?" you smiled softly, offering the puppy a treat which she happily accepted. "um well i sort of left a bag of salt and vinegar crisps out and she got into it and ate all of them as well as most of the actual bag." alessia again winced in embarrassment.
"chewer then? they grow out of it." you laughed, scratching behind willows ears and sending alessia a smile which had her stomach flipping. "you have a dog?" alessia asked, wincing yet again at how awkward she sounded.
"i do, and she was once just like miss willow here eating everything and anything she could get her little paws on." you chuckled at the memory, moving to put on a pair of gloves. "has she seemed out of sorts since she ate it? any strange behavior or unusual bowel movements?" you questioned, gently opening willows mouth and inspecting inside as best you could.
"not really? i drove her straight here as soon as i realised." alessia rubbed the back of her neck as you hummed, whistling to gain the puppys attention and quickly checking her pupils with a small torch.
"she seems happy and healthy. did you have somewhere to be?" you asked, nodding to alessia's training kit. "oh just training but i let my team and coach know i'd be late." the striker assured as you rewarded willow with another treat.
"i'd like to keep her here for a few hours in the kennel for observation if thats alright? you're welcome to stay or if you need to go to training i promise you she'll be well looked after. if she's going to pass it or if anything seems a little out of sorts we'll know by midday." you smiled toward the girl who nodded.
"you gave your number when you filled in the patient paperwork right? if anything at all goes wrong or seems remotely off with her we'll call you right away." you assured sensing her hesitation, knowing too well how much owners cared for their pets.
"you should go, really! you'd just be sitting around here twiddling your thumbs. thursdays don't tend to be very busy which is why i'm the only one here, but we have an intern who stays in the kennels to monitor and hang out with the animals so she'll be under constant supervision and i'll check in on her regularly." you continued, willow barking a few times as alessias eyes hovered over here and she gave a nod.
"okay, i trust you."
~
"-she ate the bag too!?" leah asked with wide eyes, tapping the ball back to alessia who nodded with a sigh. "you gotta get her into puppy school less." the blonde grinned with a shake of her head.
"i know i know, the vet told me the same thing. they actually offer obedience classes there so she said she'd talk me through it when i pick willow up later." alessia shrugged, her phone tucked securely into her pants despite the normal rules, jonas making an exception given the circumstances.
the staff calling it for the morning everyone made their way to over to the coolers, chugging down water and cooling off before they were expected in the gym.
"which vet did you take her to?" steph asked curiously as alessia finished recounting her morning adventures to a few more of the girls. "just the clinic closest to me, green road practice?" alessia tried to remember the name.
"oh! yeah we took calvin there for his vaccinations when he was a puppy and for obedience school, they're really good there." steph nodded which helped melt some of the nerves the striker was feeling about it all.
"i just feel so stupid! imagine if it was like a block of chocolate or something she got into?" alessia groaned as they all started to head inside. "hey its like being a parent lessi, you learn on the job and the best way to learn is mistakes!" beth slung an arm around her waist and squeezed her tightly.
"yeah but-" "no buts! she's okay right? and she's in good hands at the vets yeah?"
"yeah i guess its the best place for her. the vet was actually quite young? well i assume so anyway, not that i asked. but she knew so much? to be fully qualified, again assuming she's round my age, and to know so much is really impressive. plus she was the only vet working so she has to know her stuff!" alessia was so caught up in her rambling she missed the amused knowing smiles exchanged between her teammates.
"so was she cute?" kyra grinned catching alessia off guard. "well she wasn't ugly."
"very nice less, make sure to say exactly that when you ask her out!" leah clapped her on the back with a smirk making the blondes eyes widen. "ask her out! what?"
"yeah? you've been going on and on and on about her all morning. you clearly think she's hot so tell her that." kyra shrugged in explanation as alessia scoffed and stuttered out she didn't. "stop it! leave her be." steph warned the younger australian, arm landing on alessia's shoulder.
"she can ask her out anyway she wants to." "steph!"
~
alessia shook her head with a frown, head swamped with the teasing words of her teammates that she'd endured all day.
trying her best to brush them off she exited the car, locking it after her and hurrying inside grateful that the rain had subsided and she would no longer look like a disheveled drowned rat.
"alessia, welcome back." marley the receptionist smiled kindly, waving for her to take a seat advising you were just with another patient and would be with her shortly.
the striker busied herself with the team groupchat which seemed to be going off nonstop as the girls argued over room arrangements for the upcoming away game.
"-and i'll see the pair of you in two months for the next round of injections." her head snapped up at your voice as you waved off an older woman and her cat, meeting her eyes with a smile.
"welcome back. how was training?" you asked, genuinely seeming interested in her answer as you hummed to show you were listening. "well i'm glad you didn't break your foot, i'm only licensed to treat animals injuries." you teased as alessia finished recounting the story of kyra dropping a dumbbell and missing her foot by about a millimeter.
"oh don't worry i basically have a tab going at the local hospital, i'm cursed to be dreadfully clumsy, always have been." alessia joked back as you lead her out back toward the kennels. "maybe we should be training willow as a service dog then." you grinned over your shoulder, shouldering open the door and waving for her to step inside.
"so she passed the bag around an hour after you left, but besides that her behavior has been completely normal and i can't see any red flags popping up. she's free to go!" you smiled, unlocking the crate where willow was as within seconds she'd sprinted out toward alessia who squatted down.
"hi baby, you been a good girl?" alessia cooed, scooping up the puppy who wiggled and whined and licked all over her face. "i'd try to break her out of that habit, i've seen a lot of dogs eat a lot of poop." you smiled apologetically as alessia paled and immediately placed her back down on the floor wiping her face.
"noted. thank you!"
alessia once again found her head swamped with the words of her friends as you happily explained how the obedience classes worked, the striker humming and nodding to show she was listening when really her head was off with the clouds.
"but of course there isn't any pressure i know theres a whole load of classes and schools, we actually have a bunch of brochures back in the waiting room so please take some and look into whatever option works best for you and willow." you smiled softly, bending down again to play with the small puppy.
some of the best advice alessia had ever been given was by her brother luca, they were incredibly close and as much as he also frustrated her to no end sometimes he had passed on a pearl or two of wisdom over the years.
one of which was that if alessia was ever dreading something to count to three and just do it, because the longer she took to do it the more she'd overthink and the opportunity 9 times out of 10 would be lost.
so now trying to keep that in mind instead of everything else the girl took a deep breath and counted to three as you stood up and brushed off your scrubs.
"look i don't normally do this but i'm trying this new thing where i don't let opportunities pass me by. would you like to grab a coffee or something sometime?" alessia asked nervously, fiddling with the leash in her hand as you looked on in surprise and the striker prepared herself for rejection.
"yeah! i'd love to."

Better Safe Than Sorry 🌷 Minnie

Minne was in a panic. For the past two hours, the girl hadn't found a second of rest, pacing around the apartment, trying to keep herself busy before the thoughts running through her brain could catch up with her. Vernon was supposed to be here 10 minutes ago, only adding to her anxious state. Wonwoo and Mingyu were at the gym, thank God, she thought to herself.
The past few days, or more so even two weeks, had been... interesting. It started with a headache spanning over multiple days, only for it to turn into a migraine. Or so she thought. Throwing up, going to bed as early as possible, and sleeping in for as long as she could. Something was not right. Add the random heat flashes she had experienced the week before and Minnie started speculating. The moment she realised that her period had been a few days late made her shut down.
It was so secret that women in the industry encountered irregularities with their cycles as stress and diets dominated their lives. But Minnie and the entirety of Seventeen were in a good place. None of them was totally overworked at that point, thanks to their new contract. Diets were, thanks to the need to fit into the impossible beauty standards, still a topic of discussion but they were doing fine. Right?
It was one night out that made her mind spiral. Rapidly.
-
Minnie was enjoying a dinner with her closest friends from school, having made a reservation in one of their favourite restaurants a week ahead to make sure they'd get a private room. Food and drinks were passed around the table, discussions and conversations were flowing and laughter filled the room. Everyone was having a good time. When it hit that point of the night where people were slowly starting to leave, say their goodbyes and make promises to meet up again soon, the female singer was left with her two closest friends from that group.
Léon, once a boy too afraid to show his true colours, is now a proud man with a husband waiting for him back in their new hometown in Spain. And Hana, the legend of a best friend who had gifted Minnie her first vibrator, and now the owner of one of the most-visited clubs in the nightlife of Hongdae.
The two were well tipsy while Minnie had held herself back a bit. They were still giggling at one of their friends who had stumbled through the door as he exited, the multiple shots of liquor clearly taking over his body.
"You look a little paler than usual," Léon suddenly commented, glancing at the idol with a slight frown, "Are you okay?"
"She probably just got a new IV infusion for extra light skin," the other girl joked, getting a chuckle out of the singer. Hana had never been a fan of the idol life.
Minnie shrugged, her finger circling the rim of her glass, "I've been feeling kinda off."
Her friend downed the last shot on the table before turning to her in confusion, "How off?"
Minnie sighed, "I've had a headache for like... a week now. And two days ago I was throwing up all day. Even yesterday and today when I woke up I felt like I had to puke..." The two friends were eyeing her carefully, letting her speak freely. "And then I had some random, like... heat flashes?" She glanced up to meet their eyes, "I don't know what the hell that was, but... yeah... something's going on, I don't know. But I don't want to provoke it with alcohol."
"That," the guy of the group leaned back, eyes now wide, "does not sound good."
"Yeah, but it must be something with my immune system. My period's also God knows where."
"You missed your period?!" Hana gasped, covering her mouth with her hand.
"Girl-" Léon eyed her with a surprised expression, but Minnie was quick to stop them.
"No, no, no," she waved her hands, "It's not like that. I've missed it before, but it... it's a weird coincidence."
"What do you mean 'not like that'? That sounds a lot like being pregnant to me!" The tattooed girl hissed at her.
That was the first time she had heard the word out loud. Of course, it had crossed her mind. Just like every other woman. The moment her period was late, the first thought to come to her was 'shit, what if I'm pregnant', only to dismiss it a second later at how ridiculous it sounded.
"No, I-... we have the tour and we're preparing for a new album, and it's just... stress or something."
"But you've been stressed before. Way more stressed," the guy in front of her commented. "I don't want to scare you, but... you know..."
"If there's anyone that could be pregnant, it's you, Min," Hana casually told her, leaning back against the cushioned seats.
Minnie frowned as she glanced at her. "What the fuck do you mean?"
"No one's getting laid like you," she laughed, making the other two at the table chuckle and Léon threw his head back in glee.
"Oh, shut up!" The idol exclaimed, "You've got a line of men waiting for you to call them back after leaving their apartment in the middle of the night. And that's just from last week."
"That's not true!" Hana pointed her finger at the girl. "You get two dicks on a regular! Every day, I bet!"
"It's not every day!"
"Every other day then," the only guy quickly commented before their discussion could get any louder.
Minnie shrugged, "Yeah... so what?"
"My God," he chuckled with a shake of his head, "I'm jealous. Honestly." Making the girl laugh out loud.
"No, but seriously," Hana stopped the two, letting silence wash over the table once again. "Have you thought of it?"
"No! Because..." Minnie went quiet.
"They're not using condoms. Don't lie to us," Léon glared at her, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
Hana faked a gasp, "You slut."
"You're not even using them on strangers!" Minnie pointed out, only for her friend to slap her hand away.
"This isn't about me!"
"Whatever..." the singer mumbled, her eyes back on the glass. It was still half filled with the mix of Soju and beer she decided not to finish.
"Okay, but seriously," Léon started again, "Could there... be a possibility?"
"For one, I'm on the pill," she explained, noticing her friends opening their mouths to argue, so she continued, "I know! I know that's not 100% safe, but it's... very safe-"
"I don't know about very safe, to be honest," Hana went back to nursing a glass of water. "My mom was on the pill and look at me now," pointed at herself with a proud grin.
"Don't make me scared," Minnie mumbled as she fell back onto her chair with a sigh.
"We don't want to scare you," her guyfriend explained, letting the other girl continue,
"But take a test, just in case," Hana shrugged. "You know how many pregnancy scares I've had? Still, better safe than sorry." She ended her speech by finishing her water.
Minnie's gaze had landed on her lap, where her thumbs had already started fidgeting with each other. "I...," she started with a sigh but stopped herself again right away.
"What?" Léon wondered, keeping a close eye on the singer, but she just shook her head and brought the glass of alcohol up to her lips.
"Nothing." And downed the last bit.
-
Four days later Minnie was still fighting her stomach each day, going out of her way to try and get as little food and water into her system as possible, knowing it would only trigger her and make her run to the toilet. On the other hand, the lack of nutrition was most definitely also adding to the nausea. There seemed to be no way out for the female singer.
On the verge of tears, overwhelmed with emotions, she had texted Hana in the morning, begging her to go to the store to buy her a pregnancy test. She was still very much in denial of the possibility of her being knocked up, but there were too many signs... But then again, she remembered the conversation she had with her gynaecologist two years ago. The doctor had only let a few words fall from her mouth before Minnie realised what she was trying to tell her.
At the sound of the front door's bell, the idol's head perked up, a second before she was rushing to the door. Once she pressed the camera button, she came to face with the young rapper she had called and pressed to open the door downstairs.
"Thanks!" Came through the speakers as Vernon disappeared into the building.
For the next minutes it would take him to come up, Minnie tried to pretend to have to do something, just praying the time would pass by quicker. The tests, yes multiple, were already placed on the counter of the main bathroom's sink. Hana had arrived with two in her bag, along with chocolate and prosecco to celebrate in case they'd be negative. The alcohol was chilling in the fridge while the sweet treat was waiting for her in the cabinet, with her definitely enjoying it either way of how the tests would come out.
Another doorbell sound rang through the apartment, notifying the female member of his arrival. With a few big steps, she stopped in front of the door, pulling it open in a swift motion. A wide-eyed Vernon standing right in front of her.
"Are you okay?"
"I don't know," she mumbled, catching him off-guard as she pulled him in.
With a frown, the younger member stood right in front of her, shuffling his feet out of his shoes before he followed her down the hall.
"What's going on?"
She continued to walk in silence, only coming to a halt in the middle of the living room. Vernon stopped at the corner into the hallway, leaning against the wall.
"Alright," Minnie sighed, bringing her hands up in front of her, "Look..."
"Oh," the '98 Liner nodded, understanding this was going to be even more serious than he had expected. As if her call, asking him 'Can you come over? Like now? Just for a bit?' with zero explanation didn't alert him enough already, her stance certainly brought his heartbeat up.
"Are you okay?" He repeated his question, taking a seat on the edge of the couch, not daring to lean back in comfort.
The girl pressed her lips together, nodding as she avoided his gaze. "I-... I think so, yeah."
"That's not a yes, so that's alarming."
"No, wait-" she stopped him, "Just-... listen, okay?" Making him nod, so she could continue. "I called you because I know- or, at least I hope, you... won't judge me," his frown made her rush her words out even quicker. "And you won't overreact, because I- I don't even know if I really should be concerned, and honestly, I don't think I should be and if you ask me, I think it's impossible, and I'm overreacting, but some other people have made me think otherwise."
"Oh...kay?" Pure confusion was still written across his face. A beat of silence washed over the two as Minnie thought about what to say next. She was looking around the room, knowing there was no way out and she had brought herself into this situation.
She took one deep breath before blurting out, "I need to take a pregnancy test," pressing her lips tightly together again as she waited for a reaction.
Vernon's eyebrows shot up the moment the words tumbled from her lips. He closed his eyes for a split second, trying to take in what she had just said to him.
"Ehm... for... what?"
Minnie looked at him perplexed, "What do you think people take pregnancy tests for?" She knew sex ED in South Korea wasn't good, but she had hoped it wasn't that horrible.
"Well, I hope you're not gonna take it for the reason I think you might be taking it," he glanced up at her.
He called himself lucky to get to have her as an older sister despite only being born two months apart. Vernon and Minnie had been close ever since he became a trainee under Pledis, the older girl taking him in as a little brother in an instant. Over the years, she had realised that the lack of an age gap was starting to show as she found herself looking up at him more and more, mentally and literally physically as he had shot up in height. She had found herself looking for comfort in him, asking him for advice or even just listening to him. While some members were more physical when it came to showing their appreciation and love, Vernon kept himself in the background, choosing quiet acts of kindness as his love language, which she sometimes appreciated even more than anything else. But even with all the love the two had for each other, their sibling-like relationship was no secret and not kept behind closed doors.
"And what is the reason you're not hoping for?" She had crossed her arms in front of her chest, her eyes still unsure of whether or not to lock with his.
Vernon sighed and shook his head before glancing back up at her, now finding her gaze. "Do you seriously think you're pregnant?"
"No," she was quick to answer.
The '98 Liner rose from his seat. "Then why take the test?"
"Because!" Minnie started pacing around the room again, fixing her hair along the way.
"Because?" He nagged her.
The girl to a stop. "Better safe than sorry."
Vernon couldn't help but sigh again, "Minnie..."
"There's a 0.01 per cent chance-"
"Don't say 0.01 because if it really was 0.01 you wouldn't even think of taking one!" He pointed a finger at her, quickly realising the rude gesture and putting his hand down again. "Sorry," he mumbled.
"Okay, then maybe a slightly bigger chance... I don't know..." the female member bit down on her lip as her voice quieted down. Her gaze was back on the floor. "I'm scared."
Her confession made the rapper look back at her. He understood the seriousness of the situation, yet he had never seen the girl that way before. On a night out with the group, they had found out about the first pregnancy scare she had had years before, but she acted differently about it then. Took it with a lot more humour. But now, the woman in front of him just confessed to being scared. And he was the one she had trusted to confront about it.
Vernon glanced around the room. He couldn't freak out. He was supposed to help her here.
"Don't be scared," he tried to assure her, getting up from the sofa to take a step closer to her. "Are you serious though?"
Fallen silent, the girl just nodded. After not getting a verbal response back, she spoke up to explain, "I just... I've been feeling kinda... off. It's weird," she brushed it off, "and I really- I don't think I am, but... what if I am?"
Vernon accepted her answer, taking a second to himself. "Okay," he took a deep breath in and out. "It's okay. You have a test?" He asked her.
Minnie nodded.
"You went out and bought one?" Not even trying to conceal the concern in his voice.
"No," she told him, passing him as she made her way to the bathroom. "Hana got two for me."
"Where's she?" The younger member was hot on her feet.
"At work," Minnie explained. "She bought them on her lunch break." She stopped in front of the door, turning around to come to face with the rapper.
Vernon lowered his voice. "Why did you call me?"
The female idol shrugged.
He was desperate at this point. It felt like the wrong situation to be in for him. "Why not... Minghao... or... Shua, or Coups-"
"Coups would have me on a leash and drag me to get me castrated the moment he heard the words 'pregnancy test'!" She defended herself, getting a slight chuckle from him in return.
"Don't know how that would work but you're probably right. He'd do it at the word 'pregnancy' already," he mumbled.
"And... Shua would be way too emotional and... I don't know... Hao too. They'd be so... careful around me and try to comfort me-"
"You don't want to be comforted?"
"Not right now," she shook her head and gulped as he met his eyes. "I called you because you're the only person I know who can just sit there and be there for someone. Without overreacting... or... freaking out. And I'm kinda freaking out, so I need someone with a cool head right now."
"Not gonna lie," Vernon confessed, "I'm freaking out a little though."
"But you're hiding it well."
"Ditto," he nodded at the female member.
Another moment of silence washed over the apartment. Minnie took a quick look into the bathroom, her eyes immediately on the two pink packages by the sink.
"It's basically impossible that I'm pregnant," she admitted. The wheels in Vernon's head started turning, thinking that it was never truly impossible, unless... but he decided not to question her further.
"But I had weird... signs, I guess. And Hana and Léon made me scared. I just wanna make sure."
The '98 Liner nodded along to her words, shaking his head even harder the moment she looked back at him. "Do that. Take the test. Or tests," he dramatically pronounced the plural form.
Minnie nudged her head after a second to take a breath. "Can you come with me?"
Vernon immediately frowned. "Wh- Into the bathroom?"
The girl nodded.
"Ew, no! I'm not gonna watch you piss, bro."
She rolled her eyes, "Don't watch me pee. Just sit next to me," pointing to a stool they had in the bathroom for whatever reason. "Hold my hand?" She batted her eyes at him, mostly to lighten up the situation, while holding a bit of seriousness behind her ask.
"Absolutely fucking not," he shook his head. "Go. I'll be right here."
She eyed him up and down, scrunching up her face. "You're not a real one."
Vernon's eyebrows shot up. "If that's the requirement, I'm good," brushing her off and pushing her to finally get into the bathroom. "Weirdo," he mumbled, getting a last glare. At least she hasn't completely lost her spark, he thought to himself.
The moment she disappeared into the room, Vernon was met with the silence of being by himself. It was only then he realised that he hadn't even asked her about Wonwoo and/or Mingyu. Thinking, if anyone should be there, it would be the two men in question. He passed the thought after a moment of debating, coming to the conclusion that she'd have her reasons. Even after her explanation, he was still slightly confused as to why she'd rather have him than them here with her. He decided he'd rather stay in the unknown rather than pester her with more questions. Right now, she needed a friend, not an interrogator, by her side.
-
Vernon cleared his throat awkwardly.
The duo had found their way onto the couch with the two tests placed neatly on the coffee table ahead of them, facing down so neither one of them could even dare to get a glimpse of the results before the timer went off.
"And... ehm...," he tried to pass the time, hoping to somehow soothe the nerves rushing between both of them. "So... if you were though, like... pregnant," he carefully wondered, seeing her almost flinch at his words. He turned to look fully at her, finding her already staring at him. "Would you... w-would you... you know...," Vernon let out a chunk of air, "know whose it is?"
The time he had to himself let his mind wander to places he didn't even want it to go, but he couldn't help it.
Minnie stayed quiet for a few seconds, the words hitting her clearly hard as her eyes drifted off him.
"Ehm...," she took a deep breath. "I... I- eh... I... no?" Lowering her head, her gaze was back on her hands intertwined in her lap. She gulped, "I don't- I don't think so, n-no..." The confession appeared in the form of a big lump in her throat.
While she was able to have her fun with the two men in her life, it was only now that she came across an obstacle like this. Of course, they had had conversations about protection, being careful instead of mindless, and consent. Yet, the topic of a possible pregnancy while still taking precautions seemed to have passed them.
Vernon nodded, his lips tightly pressed together. "Alright... damn...," he raised his eyebrows. "That- that's... wow, impressive... I mean- g-good for you. That's... good for you. And I- I mean not good good for you if you're pregnant, but, you know... good as in good for-"
"Vernon?"
"Yeah, I'm shutting up."
Not the time or place for a conversation like that, nor did she want to go into more detail about the couple's constellation in the bedroom with one of her closest friends, whom she considered her little brother. Neither did Vernon. But the silence had become dreadful.
Any other day, the duo would have no issue sitting next to each other in complete silence, yet, at that very moment, both wanted anything but to stay quiet. And finding a topic of conversation seemed more challenging than ever before.
The '98 Liner could see her shaking leg in the corner of his eye, unsure of how to comfort her well enough since it was the first time in a situation like that for him too. In an attempt to help her, he reached out and placed his hand on her knee, hoping it would calm her.
"It's okay," he quietly told her, turning his head to meet her clearly frightened gaze.
"Is it though?" She kept the conversation going.
He retrieved his hand again to turn the rest of his body to face her more clearly.
"You said it's... very unlikely." He continued to choose his words carefully, not trying to overstep and drag her into a hole she might not get out of.
Minnie nodded. "Yeah...," she whispered, hugging herself as if she was freezing. "Very unlikely, but... never impossible, right?"
Vernon shrugged his shoulder, "I think only you'd know that. If it's possible or not."
Whether they were talking about the act of conception or possibly rather the chances of her fertility would stay between the two.
The girl gulped. "It's unlikely. Very, very unlikely."
A quiet pat on her back gave her the validation and comfort she craved and asked for.
"That's why I called you," Minnie confessed after a short few seconds of quietness.
"Hm?" Vernon glanced back at her after his eyes had been fixed on his phone.
"You can just sit here. Accept it, without a big reaction. And I still feel comforted. You... your presence is very comforting."
The question as to why him and not the men that lived with her was still burning his tongue, yet he didn't even dare to let it fall from his lips. Maybe another time.
"I still don't think I'm the right person for something like this-"
"You are," she quickly reassured him. "I didn't even think of anyone else."
The truth was, were the first people to pop into her head her lovers? Yes, of course. But in a moment of panic, in a situation that could affect either one of their lives immensely, she didn't want to confront them. Not with 100% certainty of a result. She wanted to avoid the unnecessary anxiety and hysteria spreading to other people involved in this. Not if there's nothing to be worried about in the first place, she kept on convincing herself.
In addition, as they had talked about before, knowing the rest of her members, there was a group of them that would try to be as emotionally available as they possibly could, their arms around her during the entire process, trying to console her while she just needed someone next to her. The other part of them would turn it into the headline of their tabloid, running around frantically, trying to make sense of the situation, while freaking out, scaring her even more.
And then there was Cheol, the oldest of them all, she shook her head as she didn't even want to think of a possible reaction of his. Yes, he'd support her no matter what, but the image of disappointment on his face was something she couldn't stomach.
Silently, Vernon leaned back, a tight smile on his lips. He appreciated her honesty.
Their sweet moment of companionship was interrupted by the sound of the teeth-shattering, chill-sending sound of his alarm. Vernon didn't even think of changing the ringtone, just opting to go with the standard iPhone one, making the girl shudder as he turned it off.
"Alright," he sighed. "You ready?"
Minnie nodded, pushing herself up to sit further on the edge, her knees close to hitting the coffee table.
"I do one, you do one?"
"Dude, you peed on that, I'm not touching it!" His exclaim made her look at him dumbfounded.
"I peed on that part," she pointed at the end covered by a plastic cap. "You won't even touch it."
But Vernon just shook his head. "You do it."
"Real supportive," she mumbled at him with an amused glare and nudge of her head.
Rushing down the number from three to one in her head, with a deep breath, she turned one test around, wanting to rip the bandaid off quickly and get it over with. Carefully, she looked at the small electronic display, ready for the worst to hit her.
"Not pregnant," she read out loud with a big breath of air. With a quick move, she turned around the second one, a content smile on her lips as she found the same result.
"Not pregnant," Vernon nodded, looking at the coffee table ahead of him before turning towards the female member. "You okay?"
Minnie pressed her lips together tightly, looking at him with a somewhat smile on her face as she nodded. "Yeah..."
Her gaze fell back on the white and blue plastic, her hands still cramped up in her lap as the younger rapper let himself fall further back into the blue couch. He let a moment pass, giving her the silence to herself.
"You know," he patted her back, gaining her attention, "If you were though...," she met his eye. "I'd drive you. Check-up... or...," with a motion of his hand, he pretended to cut his neck, getting a chuckle from her in return.
"I know," she whispered, not trusting her voice to become any louder. Too many emotions were rushing through the short moment, too many for at that time after coming close to what she'd describe as a heart attack.
In the blink of an eye, she had her arms wrapped around his torso, making the younger member smile softly as he returned the embrace. A comforting hand ran up and down her arm. It wasn't often he reciprocated the show of affection from her, but he'd let her for now, knowing she most definitely needed it.
With her cheek against his shoulder, he felt her tightening her arms in a pulse as she spoke up again.
"That's why I called you."

mother rambles ahoyyy
i think ive said before, but a lot of crowns "influence" on Mother is almost entirely just dulling emotions and it usually does this by means of scrambling their head a little just to disrupt whatever is causing the disturbance and usually its just memories
very early on it's not as bad because they're actively trying not to think about their life before becoming a vessel and as time goes on and they're trying to live in a "virtuous" way that means giving mercy to people who don't deserve it, the crown just softens the wave of emotions that only gradually build up and its what keeps Mother balanced enough to handle a lot of the early years of cult management
the lingering survivors guilt will always chip away at them, ovidia wants to believe they would have done things differently but the reality is that every choice they made before their capture and death was deliberate, and they faced the consequences. being caught and inadvertently led to the deaths of her little sisters was a butterfly effect of ovidia never really letting go of the fear of death, and for a very long time in her denial convincing herself it was because if she didnt look out for herself how could she ensure that her sisters would be safe?
mentally he frames everything as "i did it for their sake" when the reality was "i wanted to live by any means necessary"
ovidias want for a future he envisioned for himself was always a priority in the back of his mind and fueled all his choices: the way he looked for food and how it was divided, always taking a little more than her sisters because "i need the energy to care for them" and it makes sense of course, but it meant they would never have enough
when the hunger made them malnourished and sick that one could no longer stand, the most risk she took was looking for anything to ease her dying.
the youngest was still young enough to lie to, young enough that if she said she would be okay that she would have no other choice but to believe ovidia, she was their caregiver what reason would she have not to.
and the only selfless thing they'd done was still carrying their sister as they ran, but was it just an act of love done too late? or was it because finally now when their moments of away from being caught and killed, did they want to have the appearance of a person who would have done anything for their family?
the thoughts and the guilt are what eat away at his psyche to most and its why the crown has had to intervene so often and numb them.
the way they treat their followers is an idealized version of who they wish they could have been, they wished they could have been virtuous and selfless, loving and caring, a Mother to someone. this also meant becoming ruthless to the opposition and taking out any anger boiling inside out on the bishops and heretics
Becoming Mother is the "best" version of themself and to one day "lose" him and becoming themself again is another challenge entirely that takes a toll on them mentally all over again.
They see themselves as a different person and even attribute all their bloodshed as a different entity all together because its easier than admitting it was always them.
post Mother, they only half accept that truth.
#botalks#cotl mother au#i wrote WAY more than i meant but i have so many thoughts abt them#i do not know if ANY of it makes sense#i make more sense when im talking not so much typing oihgertoh#warnings for mention of#cw child death

aita for avoiding my husband on purpose, like, all the time? my husband (m36) and i (f34) have been married for almost 10 years (anniversary in a few months). we have 3 kids (m10, f8, f1) and he works full time while i stay at home. even before we got married i didnt really have friends other than him, and i always had a hard time finding excuses to get out of the house. frequently, he gets to hang out with his buddies who he also works with, and ever since we had kids he's always going out and leaving me home alone even when hes not at work just to idk. hang out at bars and pretend we don't exist. well lately ive been making time for myself to go out when the kids are at school (my youngest is pretty well behaved so i just take her with me instead of paying a babysitter) and i had managed to get kinda friendly with some of the wives of my husbands coworkers (theyre all members of the same union, so we see each other at those functions every once in awhile). i thought it was all going well and i was having fun and enjoying getting to be social for once, but about 2 weeks ago, the whole family was invited out for lunch (a picnic type thing) with his buddies from work's families. all was going well and for the most part even the kids were having fun, but then my husband got absolutely fucking trashed for no reason. none of the other guys were acting like that, and we've had conversations about him not doing that sort of thing, but he NEVER listens. he's always acting like this, but usually i dont have to see when its in public. well he embarrassed me so fucking much. he was trying to start fights, messing up his clothes, and wouldn't listen to me at all. just in his own world as always. i should've known because its been a decade of this, but i could have sworn it wasn't this bad before. he wasn't like this when we dated you know? so we got home and i was just. grossed out and annoyed. i slept on the couch and pretty much ever since then, i haven't been talking to him. i got a text from one of the ladies saying that a wednesday hangout thing i had been invited to had been canceled, but i pretty much KNOW 100% that it wasn't, and that they just don't want to be associated with me now. the kids don't really seem bothered by the tension around the house (i think its sort of normal to them since hes frequently not around anyways). i wouldn't be near as annoyed if there wasn't a part of my brain telling me "he did it on purpose". i know that's just how he acts but i could SWEAR its almost like he just doesnt want me to have friends. he doesn't want to hear about it, he just wants me THERE at home, watching the kids and existing solely for his convenience. i used to consider divorce, before we had our youngest. but i haven't had a job since high school, and i couldnt put the burden of asking for help on my sisters. they hate him, but i couldnt ask them for that support. and i dont even know what the kids would think, i cant do that to them. but yesterday, my husband brought it up (cornered me in our room pretty much) and asked why i was ignoring him. what if he really didnt know why? i TOLD him, but its like he forgot or just expects me to be "over it" by now. all i wanted was just this one thing, to HAVE FRIENDS, have that time away from being just "mom" and do what i want. he gets to do that so why cant i? or AT LEAST he could put some more effort into being around and doing things as a family? but i still wonder if im being the asshole, for giving him the cold shoulder for this long. he didnt have a happy childhood or good examples for parents so maybe he just thinks this is normal? i never asked because i assumed he knew it wasn't. and he does seem like, disappointed that i wont come to bed. maybe ive been driving him off and that's why he doesnt like to come home? idk at this point, im at a loss. aita?

I have a request!!
Fem reader is talking with storm, when gambit walks by, the reader is talking about him he quickly realizes when his name leaves his crushes lips..
"What am i supposed to say, storm? That ive been in love with him since the day we met?" She says it exasperatedly, before remy walks in, they confess kiss and blah blah happy stuff,
Thoughts?
Whispers in the Wind
You stood in the garden, chatting with Storm as a soft breeze rustled the leaves. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the grounds. You had always admired Ororo's calm presence, and your conversation was light, drifting from topic to topic. That was until the conversation took a turn toward something—or rather someone—who had been on your mind a lot lately.
"He's just... so smooth," you said with a soft chuckle, glancing down at your feet.
Ororo raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "Who exactly are we talking about here?"
You hesitated, not sure whether to say his name aloud. The truth was, you'd had a crush on Remy LeBeau, Gambit himself, for what felt like forever. His charm was undeniable, but there was something more about him that drew you in. His carefree attitude masked layers you wanted to know more about.
"Remy," you finally admitted, feeling the heat rise to your cheeks.
Just as his name slipped from your lips, you saw him out of the corner of your eye. Gambit was strolling by, his usual swagger unmistakable. He had been about to pass by without stopping, but the moment he heard his name—his name—from your lips, he froze in his tracks.
A sly smile curved on his face, and he turned his head slightly, just enough to catch the tail end of your conversation. His crimson eyes gleamed with curiosity and amusement, though he tried to play it cool. But there was no hiding the fact that he was intrigued.
"Don’t let Gambit hear you say that," Ororo teased, a grin spreading across her face as she noticed Remy listening in.
You groaned internally, glancing quickly in his direction and immediately locking eyes with him. The smirk on his face widened, and you felt your heart skip a beat.
"Now, what kinda smooth are we talkin’ 'bout, chérie?" Remy's voice was like velvet, smooth and playful as he walked closer, hands casually tucked into the pockets of his trench coat. He tilted his head, gaze locked on yours. "’Cause I gotta admit, I’m curious."
You felt your face heat up even more, and Ororo, ever the calm one, chuckled softly before taking a step back. "I think my work here is done," she said, leaving you alone with Remy.
As she walked away, you shot her a look of mock betrayal, but the smile on her face made it clear she wasn’t sorry. Now, you were standing face-to-face with Gambit, who was clearly enjoying every second of your flustered reaction.
"You were talkin' about me, chérie?" he asked, his voice low and teasing. "And here I thought I was the one doin’ all the thinkin’ ‘bout you."
His words sent your heart racing, and you were at a loss for how to respond. His gaze was so intense, it felt like he could see right through you.
"I—uh—" you stammered, trying to think of something clever to say, but nothing came out right.
Remy chuckled, stepping even closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Don’t worry, ma chère. You can talk 'bout me all you want. I ain’t complainin’."
The smirk on his lips softened into a genuine smile, and for a brief moment, the teasing facade fell away. He reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from your face, his touch light but electrifying.
"I gotta say," he murmured, his eyes never leaving yours. "I’m real glad to know I’ve been on your mind. ‘Cause you’ve been on mine for a long time."
Your breath caught in your throat as the realization hit you—Remy had known all along. All the stolen glances, the quiet smiles, the moments when your heart raced whenever he was near. He had noticed. And more than that, he felt the same.
"Maybe next time, chérie, you should talk to me ‘bout it instead of Storm," he teased, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "I promise I’ll listen real close."
You couldn’t help but laugh, finally finding your voice. "Maybe I will, Remy," you said, meeting his gaze with newfound confidence.
Remy’s grin widened, and he leaned in just a little closer. "Good," he whispered, his voice sending shivers down your spine. "I’m lookin’ forward to it."

fate is the handspike
(an X-Files ficlet)
[Read on AO3]
Summary:
Starting on February 23, 1964, Teena Mulder begins to worry about her young son. At first, she thinks maybe he's wishing for a little sister, a wish that will be granted very soon. But he insists the little girl he talks to is called Dana, and she's too little to play, but she likes when he reads his books to her.

(fic below the cut)
i.
At first, Teena thinks it's cute.
"She's just a baby, mommy, she can't play yet," he'd say.
"Oh, is that right?" she'd reply, indulging him in his childish fantasies. Perhaps this was his way of asking for a sister. The other moms in the neighborhood often urged her to give Fox a sibling, citing a child's need for company and social engagement, but Fox had always seemed so happy to play alone. She's not on the best of terms with her husband at the moment, either, which complicates things.
But then there's times when she sees Fox on the floor, legs splayed out before him as he recites his favorite picture books to his imaginary friend, and she wonders if she ought to be worried. Just a little.
Dr. Seuss, Curious George, Clifford the Big Red Dog... The boy has a photographic memory. Though he's too young to properly read, he has a grasp on the basic plots and recounts them in great detail, turning the pages as he goes.
"This one is called 'Where the Wild Things Are,' Dana," he says, because his friend's name—he insists—is Dana. He turns the book in his hand and shows the colorful illustration on the cover to a patch of carpet on the living room floor. "Don't worry, it's not scary," he assures her. Her. It. Whatever it is he's spent his days talking to since late February.
When he tells the story, he uses his own name, instead of 'Max.' That's how she'd always read it to him, and that's the only way he knows.
"And Fox told the monsters to be still!" he narrates with enthusiasm. "He used a magic trick and looked right in their BIG yellow eyes, and they were all scared. They said Fox is the most wild thing of all, and they made him king!"
ii.
There was one night when she'd woken to find Fox standing in the corner of his room, speaking softly to the wall.
"Shh, it's okay, Dana," he soothed in his little voice. "Here, I'll sing you a song. Twinkle twinkle little star...."
She never tells Bill what she's seen. He's always too busy to notice himself. But others know.
"He's quite an imaginative young fellow," Spender notes, taking a draw from his cigarette as Fox rolls around in the grass outside the house in Quonochontaug. Since "Dana" learned to crawl, he's been even more preoccupied than usual. He shows her all his toys, tells her the names of all his action figures. He announces to his mother one day that he's going to teach Dana how to walk. That she can only stand on her own for a little bit right now, but she doesn't cry anymore when she falls down.
Bill, if he ever catches wind of this, must think he's talking about one of the other kids from Teena's ladies' group. But there's no "Dana" in this neighborhood. Not on the Vineyard, either. She's checked.
iii.
The day she finds out she's pregnant, a part of her wonders. Though her knowledge of her husband's work is small, she knows enough to gather that things she might have thought impossible, could in fact be possible. Perhaps her son had been having visions of his baby sister, long before she was even conceived. Maybe it had simply been a sign that he would one day be a big brother. Soon.
She'd long since dispelled thoughts of ghosts and hauntings and exorcisms.
He tells Dana all about the baby in mommy's tummy. He giggles and makes silly faces, pausing in between sentences, which she gathers must mean his friend has developed the ability to speak.
"Mommy, she said my name! That's right! Fox! Fox!"
iv.
When Samantha is born, "Dana" seems to disappear overnight. This, at least, supports her theory that he had simply been preparing himself for a new sibling, and after a few years, she's completely dismissed the issue. Fox shows no other signs of strange or unusual behavior. He is nothing but a doting big brother, who occasionally gets annoyed by his freckle-faced kid sister, as any brother is wont to do. He reads to her, plays games with her, watches the television with her. They're two peas in a pod, and not once does the name "Dana" escape his lips. She is all but forgotten.
Until he's twelve years old. Samantha is gone, and Teena lacks the patience to deal with his questioning.
"Mom? Does the name 'Dana' mean anything to you?" he asks.
"What? Of course not, Fox, why would you ask such a thing?"
He looks down at his feet, shoulders slumping. "No reason. Forget I asked."
v.
When Fox lays awake at night, the bedroom next to his now dull and empty, he thinks he can hear a voice. It isn't Samantha's—though he'd thought so at first.
"By heaven, man," she reads, "we are turned round and round in this world, like yonder windlass, and Fate is the handspike. And all the time, lo! that smiling sky, and this unsounded sea!"
What does this girl know about fate? What does she know of this upside-down world?
"Read the next chapter, Dana!" he hears another girl's voice speak. The words are faint—muffled—like he's underwater. But her voice is clear.
He falls asleep, like most nights, listening to the tales of Ahab and Starbuck, and a great white whale.

She walked the dark streets, carefully considering whether she should really do this. Hawks had insisted that it was both stupid and dangerous, and she couldn't disagree. But there was no way to avoid it; she had to see this through.
The city's seedy underbelly had a foreboding air, a stark contrast to the vibrant, bustling areas she usually patrolled. The broken streetlights cast a dim glow, their flickering bulbs only accentuating the shadows. Graffiti marred the crumbling walls, and the stench of decay permeated the air. The occasional rustle from a nearby alley or the distant clatter of a can reminded her of the ever-present dangers lurking in the darkness.
Dressed in plain clothes rather than her hero suit, she tried to blend in, taking what appeared to be a casual stroll in the middle of the night through a dangerous part of town. The quiet, deserted streets gave her a moment to think, her footsteps echoing in the silence. She passed by boarded-up shops and derelict buildings, their windows shattered and interiors long abandoned. The eerie silence was punctuated only by the distant hum of traffic and the occasional distant siren.
When she opened her eyes, she saw him, standing at the end of the sidewalk, staring at her. The moment she noticed him, he turned and walked into an abandoned building.
"Wait!"
She followed him without hesitation, her steps guided by an almost instinctual pull. The building loomed ahead, its facade covered in grime and ivy, windows like dark, empty eyes staring back at her. The entrance was a gaping maw, swallowing the faint light from the street. She didn't take the time to look where she was going, and soon found herself enveloped in pitch-black darkness. The interior smelled of mold and rot, the air heavy with dust that clung to her throat with every breath.
Despite the lack of light, she somehow knew where to go. The name on her arm itched, urging her forward, and with each step, the pressure in her heart intensified. The entrance to the abandoned building loomed ahead, a gaping maw of darkness. The doorway, framed by crumbling bricks and overgrown with ivy, seemed to invite her into its depths. Shattered glass crunched beneath her feet as she crossed the threshold, the air inside heavy with the scent of mold and decay. The faint, distant sound of dripping water echoed through the cavernous space, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
She turned to her right and sensed his presence, but instead of moving to grab him, she just stood there, facing the darkness.
“Any reason you’re not jumping to arrest me?” The darkness spoke, his voice resonating through the void. It was the first time she heard him speak, and the calmness in his tone was oddly soothing, almost addictive. Yet she felt defensive, knowing that his awareness of her intentions made the situation precarious.
“No need to feel so anxious, just making an observation,” she replied, her eyes slowly adjusting to the surroundings as she searched for a place to sit. The interior of the building was in a state of advanced disrepair, with broken beams and collapsed walls casting jagged shadows. Debris littered the floor, and the smell of dampness and decay permeated the air. The scant light filtering through the boarded-up windows barely illuminated the space, casting eerie, shifting patterns on the ground.
Dizzy and overwhelmed, she was determined to go through with this. She spotted a precarious-looking chair against the far wall and cautiously made her way toward it, her heart pounding with every step. She could feel the tension radiating from him, adding to the heaviness in the room.
“I’ve been looking for you ever since the fire last month.”
“Isn’t everyone?” he responded, his voice carrying a hint of amusement and challenge.
The tension between them was palpable, a mix of unspoken words and unresolved emotions. She knew this encounter was fraught with danger, but it was also a chance to confront the truths they had both been avoiding.
She sighed, the weight of her thoughts pressing heavily on her chest. Of course, everyone was looking for him; he was one of the most wanted villains right now. But she wasn't here to arrest him, at least not at this moment. “My soulmate,” she began, her voice trembling, “he died when I was 13. I never got to meet him.” She swallowed, trying to find the right words to explain herself. “Your quirk… I think it could turn into ice at some point, not as a quirk awakening, but… just as growth.”
The room seemed to close in around her as she spoke, the shadows dancing with her unease. She could barely make out his silhouette, a dark figure in an even darker void, but his presence was unmistakable. The oppressive silence that followed her words made her skin crawl, each second stretching into an eternity.
Her mind raced with thoughts and memories, the pain of her past intertwining with the fear of the present. The abandoned building, with its haunting atmosphere, felt like a physical manifestation of her inner turmoil. Every creak and groan of the old structure seemed to echo her doubts and regrets.
She shifted uneasily on the rickety chair, her eyes darting around the room. The walls, covered in graffiti and grime, seemed to close in on her. The only light came from a flickering bulb somewhere in the distance, casting a sickly yellow glow that did little to alleviate the darkness.
The intensity of his silence was almost unbearable. She could feel his gaze on her, piercing through the gloom, and she fought to keep her composure. The weight of the moment pressed down on her, and she felt an overwhelming urge to flee, to escape the suffocating pressure that threatened to crush her.
But she stayed, determined to see this through. The name on her arm itched again, a reminder of her purpose. She took a deep breath, steeling herself against the fear and uncertainty that swirled around her like a tempest. She had come this far, and she couldn’t turn back now.
“Your flame…” she continued, her voice barely above a whisper, “it felt different. It wasn’t just fire; it was something else, something more. I need to understand why. I need to understand you.”
Her words hung in the air, a fragile bridge between them. She could sense his internal conflict, the struggle between the persona he had created and the remnants of the boy he used to be. The tension crackled like static electricity, a palpable force that threatened to snap at any moment.
The room around them seemed to close in, the darkness pressing in from all sides. The distant sounds of the city outside were muffled, as if the world had shrunk to just the two of them. The air was heavy with dust and decay, the scent of old wood and forgotten memories mingling with the sharp tang of rust and mold. Every creak of the building, every flicker of the dim light, seemed to underscore the intensity of their confrontation.
Finally, he broke the silence, his voice low and filled with a complexity of emotions. “You think you know me?” His tone was laced with bitterness and curiosity, a challenge and a plea wrapped into one.
“I’m not claiming to know you, I’m just… trying to figure this out. I felt it on me, and I’ve stood in fire; I’ve been burned by fire, caused by quirks or naturally occurring. Fire doesn’t feel like that, not to me. Fire terrifies me. I have to concentrate a million times harder to keep myself from burning just to walk through it, and I can never manage it well during an active fight.” Her heart rate increased, driven by a mix of hope, desperation, and confusion. “But I wanted to stay in it. I wanted to stop and be in your flame… forever. It was so calming… nostalgic.”
Her voice wavered, and her eyes started to water. She paused to process her emotions, waiting for him to respond. Yet again, nothing. The silence felt like an abyss, threatening to swallow her whole. The shadows in the room seemed to grow darker, the faint light barely holding them at bay.
“I’m going to say something that I’m not even sure of, but the fact that I looked for you all this time should be a clear sign of what this means to me.” She took a deep breath, tears spilling onto the ground, glistening briefly in the dim light before disappearing into the dusty floor. “If I’m wrong, I hope me letting you go will allow you to forgive me for putting this on you; if I’m right… well, I don’t want you to answer either way.”
The air between them was thick with unspoken words and unacknowledged feelings. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, each beat a reminder of the gravity of this encounter. She was walking a tightrope, one misstep away from disaster, but she was determined to find her way across.
In the dim light, she saw him shift, his outline becoming clearer. The vulnerability in his posture was almost imperceptible, but it was there, a flicker of the person he once was. It gave her a sliver of hope, a reason to keep pushing forward despite the darkness that surrounded them. Her heart pounded in her chest. She was nervous, but she felt most of that anxiety was coming from him, even if she had no way of knowing for sure.
“Dabi. I think you’re Touya. I think you’re Touya Todoroki, and if I’m right, you’ve known who I am for a long time.” She stopped, fighting back a sob, overwhelmed by a river of emotions. This was more than she had anticipated, and it was tearing her apart. She wanted to cry, but that had to wait. “If that’s true, why didn’t you say anything? Why didn’t you try? I wanted to be with you, all my life all I’ve ever wanted was you, however that was. You left, faked your own death, and came back a villain, but never once did you think that maybe you could send a letter. A sign of life.”
The room felt like it was holding its breath, the silence after her words echoing louder than any noise. Her tears fell freely now, and she didn’t bother to wipe them away. She stood there, raw and vulnerable, waiting for a response that might never come. The light flickered again, casting long shadows that seemed to dance around them, as if the building itself was listening to their exchange.
He remained silent, and unchaging, his figure a dark silhouette against the faint light. The seconds dragged on, each one an eternity. She could see the conflict in his eyes, the war between the persona he had become and the boy he once was. The vulnerability in his posture was almost heartbreaking, a reminder of the pain and loss that had shaped both of their lives.
Deep down, she knew she was right, and she wasn’t crying for herself; she was crying for both of them. She stood up from the spot she had taken on the rusty chair, deciding to return to UA. She had said what she needed to, and his lack of reaction showed that even if she was right, he didn’t care. She meant nothing to him.
Either way, Touya was dead. Even if his former self was standing in front of her, he was gone. She swallowed and took a step back, ready to let go; let Touya be burned and dead. Insisting on a connection with him would be dysfunctional and selfish on both their ends.
She heard footsteps approaching, slowly coming closer. She could feel him standing in front of her, the intense warmth radiating from his body. She was tempted to reach out and touch him. He was less than a step away, but she couldn’t see him. She couldn’t even see herself in the darkness. She quickly braced herself for whatever was coming.
“You want me to believe you didn’t know?” The question struck her like a physical blow, her heart plummeting into a deep chasm of despair. An overwhelming heat surged through her body, intensifying the gravity of the moment. This revelation shifted the narrative drastically; to him, it meant she had deliberately rejected him. He had kept his distance, believing she didn’t want him.
“I never stopped feeling things, yours or mine,” he continued, his voice laden with the weight of suppressed emotions.
“What?” she stammered, struggling to process the accusation. Her mind raced, searching for a coherent response. “I… I didn’t… I swear,” she pleaded, her voice cracking under the strain.
“Try again when you believe your own lies,” he hissed, his breath hot against her face. His hand moved deliberately, slowly wrapping around her neck. The gesture was a mix of threat and disdain, his fingers pressing just hard enough to convey his dominance. The heat of his touch sent a shiver down her spine, an unsettling mix of fear and something else, something she didn't want to acknowledge. The proximity of his body, the intensity of his gaze, it all created a confusing blend of emotions that left her feeling raw and exposed.
“For the sake of giving you a chance, I’m not killing you today. Next time, you might not be so lucky.” He tightened his grip momentarily, a final warning, before releasing her with a shove. The force of his push made her stagger, and she barely managed to stay on her feet. Her hand instinctively went to her neck, where the heat of his touch lingered, a ghostly reminder of their encounter.
The room felt suffocating, the air thick with unspoken hatred and a twisted undercurrent of something almost primal. Her heart pounded in her chest, each beat resonating with a confusing mixture of anger, fear, and a strange, unwanted attraction. The darkness seemed to close in around her, amplifying every sensation, every emotion.
She watched as he retreated back into the shadows, his silhouette disappearing into the black void. The oppressive silence returned, only broken by her ragged breathing. Her mind was a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts, the realization of his hatred cutting deep, while a small, treacherous part of her was drawn to the intensity of his presence
The dilapidated room around her seemed to echo her inner turmoil. The flickering light cast eerie shadows on the cracked walls, the air thick with dust and the scent of decay. She felt a profound sense of loneliness, the weight of their encounter pressing down on her like a physical burden. Her tears fell onto the dusty floor, mingling with the dirt and grime, a stark contrast to the heat and passion she had just experienced.
She stumbled back, pressing a hand to her throat where his grip had been, feeling the residual heat from his fingers. Her heart pounded in her chest, each beat a reminder of the danger she had narrowly escaped. She looked around the abandoned building, its dilapidated state a stark contrast to the turmoil within her. The silence was oppressive, broken only by her ragged breathing.
For a moment, she struggled to gather her thoughts, her mind a whirlwind of fear, confusion, and the painful sting of betrayal. How could he think she had rejected him? The realization that he had misinterpreted her actions cut deep, adding to her emotional turmoil. She sank to her knees, her body trembling as the weight of the encounter settled over her.
The room seemed colder now, the earlier warmth from his presence dissipating into a chilling emptiness. Her tears fell onto the dusty floor, creating tiny dark spots that mirrored the growing darkness in her heart. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to find some semblance of comfort in the stark isolation of the moment.
Her eyes welled with tears as she replayed his words in her mind. The venom in his voice, the coldness in his touch, and the haunting promise of a darker future if they met again. She knew she had to pull herself together, to find a way to make him understand the truth, but for now, the enormity of what had just happened overwhelmed her.
In the stillness of the night, she felt an aching loneliness, a stark contrast to the brief, terrifying closeness they had shared. She pressed her hands to her face, trying to steady her breathing and gather the strength to stand. The path ahead was fraught with danger, and she knew she had to be stronger, more resilient, if she was to survive and find a way to reach him.
The building creaked around her, the sounds of its decay echoing her own sense of disrepair. As she stepped toward the exit, the flickering light seemed to fade, casting the room into deeper shadows. She was alone, but she carried with her a glimmer of determination, a faint hope that maybe, somehow, she could reach the boy he once was and pull him from the flames of his own making.
As she walked away from the abandoned building, her mind churned with a tumultuous mix of emotions. The encounter with Dabi, or perhaps Touya, had left her shaken to the core. Each step felt heavy, as if she were carrying the weight of the entire world on her shoulders.
Her thoughts kept circling back to the words he had spoken, the accusations he had hurled at her with such venom. How could he believe she had rejected him? How could he think she didn’t want him? The pain of his misunderstanding cut deep, slicing through her heart like a knife. She had spent years searching for him, longing for him, and now he stood before her, believing she had turned her back on him.
The night air was cool against her skin, a stark contrast to the heat that still lingered from his touch. She shivered, a shudder running down her spine, but it was not from the cold. It was from the knowledge that the path ahead would be treacherous, filled with obstacles and dangers she could scarcely imagine; but she would not falter. She would not give up. She would find a way to break through to him, to make him see the truth, even if it meant risking everything she held dear.
She picked her phone from her pocket to check the time: 4:00 a.m. The early hour felt like a cruel reminder of how little time she had left before her morning patrols began. Groaning bitterly, she realized she had to get ready quickly. The promise she made to her best friend to call him if and when she found Dabi lingered in her mind. Reluctantly, she scrolled through her contacts, the screen's soft glow illuminating her weary face. She decided to call him, even though she hated the idea of disturbing him. He was an early riser, and she was almost certain he’d be awake anyway, but there was always a chance he was still sleeping, and she hoped she wasn’t waking him up.
After a couple of rings, he finally picked up, his voice sounding wide awake, which relieved her a bit. “Hey there, lovely morning today,” he greeted, his tone bright and cheerful.
She raised an eyebrow in confusion, her exhaustion making it hard to process his upbeat demeanor. “Yes?” she responded, her voice tinged with disbelief.
“Yes,” he repeated, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. “What’s up, birdie?”
“I found Dabi, and we talked,” she said, swallowing the lump that was building up in her throat again. The pain of the interaction was still fresh, her arms wrapping protectively around herself as she spoke. The night had started hopeful, but now she felt lonelier than ever. Her soulmate had just threatened to kill her, and he thought she didn’t want to be with him.
“How’d it go?” he asked, still sounding chipper and blissfully unaware. She couldn’t shake the feeling that he might know more than he let on about the villain's feelings for her.
“Well, I have a target on my head, and my number one hater is the one person who is supposed to love me,” she said, her voice breaking as she struggled to hold back tears. The weight of her words hung heavily in the air.
“Whoa, what do you mean?” he asked, his tone shifting to concern, the seriousness of her situation starting to sink in.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “He thinks I rejected him. He said I lied, that I didn’t care. He nearly killed me, but he decided to spare me this time.”
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, the tension palpable even through the phone. “That’s... intense,” he finally said, his voice softer, filled with empathy. “Are you okay?”
“Physically, yes. Emotionally... not so much,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “I just don’t understand how everything got so twisted. He was my soulmate. I’ve been searching for him, trying to find a way to reach him, and now...”
“Now he’s a villain who thinks you don’t want him,” he finished for her, the reality of her words sinking in.
“Exactly,” she whispered, feeling the tears finally spill over, the emotional dam breaking. “I don’t know what to do. I can’t just let this go, but I don’t know how to fix it either.”
Her friend sighed deeply on the other end of the line, the sound filled with both frustration and determination. “We’ll figure it out together, okay? You’re not alone in this. We’ll find a way to make him understand.”
She nodded, even though he couldn’t see her, the gesture bringing her a small measure of comfort. “Thanks,” she said softly, her voice filled with gratitude. “I needed to hear that.”
“Anytime, birdie,” he replied gently, his voice a soothing balm to her frayed nerves. “Now, get ready for your patrols. We’ll talk more later.”
She ended the call and took a moment to collect herself, the stillness of the night wrapping around her like a heavy blanket. Despite everything, she felt a glimmer of hope. With her friend’s support, she believed she could find a way to reach Dabi and make him see the truth. She wiped her tears away, took a deep breath, and steeled herself for the day ahead. The path would be challenging, but she was determined to navigate it, one step at a time.
With one last breath, she continued on the path back to the school, hoping that for some miraculous reason she could stay in and play chaperone to the kids. Despite only living there for one week, she had already almost fallen in love with the class.

Pay it no mind
Part XVIII
In which reader confesses their feelings to Gojo, but it seems these are not returned (maybe?).
Warnings: reader is on the receiving end of rejection (kinda), and the fact that I'm obsessed with unrequited love is a warning itself, and... idk, I didn't mean to put anything warning worthy here, but if you think of something I guess let me know. <3
Previous: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V, Part VI, Part VII, Part VIII, Part IX, Part X, Part XI, Part XII, Part XIII, Part IV, Part XV, Part XVI, Part XVII
----------------------
The days that followed after Satoru told you he liked you, it seemed that everything had gone back to normal and you two were slowly falling back into your usual routine: meeting up early in the mornings, bantering in between classes and missions, and eating lunch with Shoko when all of you were at the school. It was comforting to have things return to how they used to be, or that was what you thought.
“What’s up with him?” Shoko asked across from you.
Satoru had business to attend so he had just left you and Shoko at the table in the cafeteria.
“What do you mean?” you looked in the direction he had gone but could no longer see him.
From your perspective, Satoru had not changed much since that day he walked through the school holding your hand; he had not pressed the subject of whether you liked him back still any further either, and since he appeared to be okay in this grey zone where you two were sitting, you had not brought it up either. However, Shoko, as perceptive as ever, had noticed how Gojo, who always seemed to like your personal space, was moving into it almost permanently these days; how he was not even bothering to be discreet with the way he looked at you or remained by your side when you were in the same room, and how, if he was not careful, it would be evident to everyone pretty soon.
At first, Shoko had believed it was all in her head; since that day, years ago, when she first considered that Gojo could have some kind of crush on you, the notion had prevailed. In fact, she had thought she was looking into her friends’ relationship too much, maybe because none of them seem to pay any mind to how they were perceived, so it was not entirely impossible her eyes were just making her believe what she had accepted as true for so long was finally materializing.
Gojo’s laid-back attitude had been one of the reasons why Shoko doubted he cared seriously about whatever feelings he could have for you. Other than that rocky season in high school and a few other occurrences through the years that followed, Satoru had never taken any steps towards an actual relationship with you. Hence, Shoko thought it's a harmless crush.
But as of lately, he looked more... intent. Or maybe...
He’s losing his grip.
“You’ve never found him annoying, have you?” Your friend looked at her almost empty plate and it somehow reminded you of a similar talk you had had months ago.
“A bunch of times, but I guess I don’t find him too annoying,” you answered.
“Isn’t that all love is about?” Ieiri’s eyes connected with yours.
Her comment caught you off guard, and she might have noticed the way your smile froze because her gaze did not leave yours.
You did the only thing that could think of: laugh it off. “Yeah, I guess, if love is annoying, that is.”
Are you finally annoyed by it, Gojo?
“You tell me.” Shoko smiled and put the last bite of her food in her mouth.
***
“Why won’t she just admit she likes him?” Satoru asked while looking at the movie playing in front of him.
Maybe it was a rhetorical question, but you did not look at him before replying “Because there would have been no movie if they were that direct.”
It was a Friday night and Satoru had made an impromptu proposal to you to have a movie marathon at his place. You had accepted but now, into your first movie of the night, you were having trouble to stay focused on the story, which was supposed to be some sort of romantic comedy, not half as bad as many, but the romantic scenes were making you self-conscious.
You watched the scene where the protagonists had gone from arguing to making out and you felt the need to look somewhere else.
From the corner of your eye, Satoru seemed unimpressed.
He’s unfazed, of course he is.
Actually, Satoru was only calm on the surface. Unbeknownst to you, he had also perceived the change in the air between the two of you when the more intimate scenes started playing. He thought he should have chosen a different film, but suggesting changing it now would only make the unsaid more obvious, so he was sticking it up with the most unexpressive face he could manage as the actors on the screen seemed to melt into each other.
Satoru had not meant anything suggestive by choosing that movie; he had just played the first thing he found as he always did when you had not planned in advance, and under normal circumstances, that would have been fine. You had watched all kinds of films together, including romantic ones, the good and the bad ones, but now…
Satoru was already looking at you when you were about to steal another glance in his direction.
His gaze revealed a question he dared not ask, or rather, a question he had promised himself he would not ask until you were ready.
He was trying to be a good friend, even if he wanted to be more than that. It had taken him a while to figure out his feelings, so he had resolved to give you as much time as you needed. Yes, Satoru was convinced he could wait patiently, but…
Is he leaning forward?
At times… His resolve weakened.
“[name]…”
The look he was giving you was that of a kid who wanted to ask for something but did not know how. In his clear eyes, there was need but also fear of being denied.
What is your answer? his eyes were asking.
The winter had also frozen time in your friendship, in this safe spot in Satoru’s place, where you could still be friends and pretend nothing needed to change as it never changed in the years before, not in his apartment nor in your friendship. But time must go on, does it not?
“Satoru...”
His phone rang.
Both of you looked at the phone that was screen-down on the coffee table in front of you, and it seemed to take Satoru a couple of seconds to decide if he wanted to pick it up, but he finally did.
“I’ll be right back.” You got up and went to the kitchen.
Giving him some privacy to take the call was an excuse; part of you just wanted to escape of it all, ask Satoru to take it back, let everything remain as it was, stay in the known, but the other part, the part that had been falling for him all this time wanted to see it through.
Are you in love with him?
For a second, you were back in your living room with Haruki, his question and your answer resonating in your head as you watched the cup of tea travel steady from the table to his lips.
“Some people think knowledge that doesn’t change behavior is worthless,” his eyes did not meet yours, and you did not reply immediately.
“If you knew he liked you, would you act on it?” He had almost finished his cup.
"I don't know," you replied.
Months ago, you had been convinced you wanted to act on your feelings, but now, the idea of change was scary, the idea of trying to later find out it was not what you wanted, was scarier; the idea that you and Satoru would never recover if that happened, was terrifying.
“To change something, you first need to accept the possibility of change, and of course you need to know that those possibilities exist. I guess in that way, that knowledge is not worthless, even if nothing actually comes out of it. We should accept the possibilities.”
His feelings were sudden but if there is a possibility...
“Okay, I can accept that,” you said lowly to yourself.
“You can accept what?” Satoru was looking at you and taking the sodas you had just mindlessly pulled from the fridge from your hands.
The room felt a few degrees warmer with his proximity.
“Nothing, I was just...” Your gaze drifted to the door leading to a small terrace where Satoru had installed a couple chairs to sit on when the weather was nice. He almost never did it though, and you could use some fresh air. “Do you want to go outside?”
A smile played on Satoru’s lips. “Isn’t it cold?”
“Just for a bit.”
That was how you and he ended up outside looking at the city lights. You looked up but it was impossible to see the stars. Satoru mirrored your gesture and then directed his gaze back to the city.
“Do you ever regret it?” he asked.
“Regret what?”
He shrugged. “Staying here, doing what we do, not going somewhere quieter or… somewhere where you could see the stars.” He looked up again and you kept your gaze on him.
Why was he asking that now you did not know, but you answered him honestly.
“I do not regret it.” It was true. Even when you did have the opportunity to do something else or be somewhere else, you chose not to leave. “This is pretty too.”
The lights of a city that never seem to sleep were probably not as fascinating and mystical as the stars that burned millions of light years away, but they had some beauty of their own.
“I guess so,” Satoru agreed, and he wrapped an arm around you, and after some silence he spoke again.
“Aren't you cold?”
You nodded your head. “But can we stay here a little longer?”
And maybe what you really wanted to ask was can we stay like this a little longer?
In any case, Satoru would have given you the same response as he held you tighter.
“Of course.”

No sign of Rain.
Not easy living with the fact that you hurt someone you just wanted to protect, isnt it.
More context under the cut!
Tldr: 3 realizes that forcing 4 away from the Platoon after Sploon2 the way they did wasnt the best choice. That forcing her to ignore what had happened had most likely contributed to her unable to cope with life beyond war.
(The comic above is from after Sploon3/SO! Situation described below is post Sploon2/OE.)
3 and 4 have been doing missions together awhile. 4s been able to handle herself well, but theres a moment where she trips up and gets hurt a lil more than usual. Like, its to the point where she needs to be taken off the field awhile.
3...
"|Im sorry.|"
"Heh? Three, if it wasnt for you, Id be dead. What are you saying sorry for?"
"|...if it werent for me going away when Octavio stole the Zapfish again...youd never have been dragged into this mess.|"
"Thats not your fault, Three. Cap'n called you away."
3 sighs... "|Still...you couldve been living a life where you never have to worry about your life being put in this much danger.
Or anyone else's life, for that matter.|"
4s the one whos quiet now, as she glances away. 3 does have a point... "...I guess so, yeah. But that wouldve meant that Id never have met you."
Silence sits between them awhile, until 3 grunts softly, to get 4 to look at them again. "|I want you to promise me something.|"
"What is it?"
"|When things settle down again, I want you to leave.|"
"....What?"
"|Live your life away from this. This danger, this war, this...everything.|"
"And leave YOU? Three, you cant do things alone anymore, you KNOW it!"
A clack of their beak. "|Im more capable than you think, Four. Dont think less of me.|"
"Im not- Im not thinking less of you!! Im just stating the facts!"
3s making a low gurgling noise. Its a similar sound an inkfish makes before spitting ink. A sound that says "dont test me."
"Three, Im not leaving. Its already happened... everything -- Octaria, the zapfish, the metro -- its all happened, and I cant just...go back after all of that."
"|Yes, you can. You still can. Youve a life outside this. Why else are you late enough that Marie has given up reprimanding you?|"
4 backs down...3s right. Again.
"...and what about you? Why dont you leave, too? Once...everything is stable."
3s ears droop. "|...theres nothing left for me. Ive thrown my lot with the NSS for as long as I remember. My team barely even recognizes me these days.|"
A silent beat goes by between them again.
"|So promise me. Promise me.| Rain." They rasp her name, making sure she gets the point. "|Promise me you'll live. Promise me you'll go back up there. You said you wanted to go to college -- go. Dont look back. Dont become like me.
I dont want you to become like...this.|"
They gesture to their scar. Their tentacles, forever stained marbled cyan.
4 can see in the gesture the pain they hid in their hearts. The regret. The guilt.
"...Tanara..."
"Live." they rasp, So quietly."Live. Promise me."
"I dont want to leave you alone."
"|Ive been in this war since Ive hatched, and Ive done things on my own before you were dragged into this. You deserve none of this bullshit.|"
"You dont deserve it either!"
3 grips her shoulders. pleading with her. "Promise me. Please promise me. That youll leave."
4 shakes her head. Resolute.
"Im sorry...I cant promise that to you. Youre my friend, Tanara. Im not letting you do this alone."
3... leans against her, defeated. Burying their face into her shoulder. Theyre shaking their head, clutching on her tight.
"...I-Im sorry, I...Ill be more careful next time. Okay? I can...I can promise you that much."
3 remains silent. Thats not what they want. They want her to be safe forever.
"...this really means a lot to you, huh?
Okay.
Ill...Ill think about it."
------------------------
She does eventually decide to leave. Things were looking up for awhile, and missions are much lighter. She can dare to dream bigger now. That and...she cant stand seeing 3 looking so guilty whenever she says something abt her life on the surface.
None of it is their fault. Any of this. But they still feel that theyre taking her away from her "real life".
When she said that shes leaving the platoon, 3s look of jubilation both relieved and pained her. Then a thought hit her, right there.
"...Wait...all this time- did you just want to get rid of me? D-did you not want to be friends anymore?"
3 shakes their head. "|Rain, I asked you to live your dreams as a friend.
Your safety would be guaranteed. Youd be able to happily live your dreams without worry.|"
"...Will I ever see you again?"
3 sighs. "|...hopefully not.|"
4 gasps.
"|No- no-! Not because I dont want to see you-|"
"Tanara, youre making it hard for me to believe that youre doing this for me. What kind of life would I have if youre not there? Not a happy one, Im telling you!!!"
3s shaking as they sign. Trying so hard to keep their breaking mask tight.
"|Im a soldier, Rain. And Ill likely be one til the day I die.
I dont want to drag you back into this mess. I dont want you to get hurt, because of me.|"
Why is it that they always have a point? 4 despairs at the fact.
"So this means goodbye..?"
"|Weve got some days left. Lets make them count.|"
A smile. A bittersweet one.
------------------------
These teenagers goddamn. 3 doesnt understand fully that shit still happened and one cant just leave and pretend nothing had transpired. Or maybe they felt they didnt deserve to have someone as good as 4.
Theyre ruthless in a sense that they know what their goals are. Their goal was to keep the world safe for everyone else to live. And if it means sacrificing their friendship with 4, so be it. If shes safe, their goal is met. Doesnt matter what either of them feel about it. (I suppose 4 getting injured really pushed them to make that choice.)
And 4... yeah, leaving was the smart choice for her personal growth, but agreeing with 3 to sacrifice their friendship wasnt the best choice to agree to. She felt like she cant argue 3 out of that decision they made for the both of them...so she just followed it.
"|Look alive, Rain. Your brand new life awaits you.|"
------------------------
Thats why theyre so flabbergasted and upset that she came back. It felt like that time they spent alone, that sacrifice they made, was all in vain...
"Im sorry, Three. It sucked being away from you. It really did. I failed to live there...maybe my life is really meant to be lived here. On duty.
With you."
Are they disappointed that she failed her brand new life? No, never. They gave her the chance to run away from it all, but she came crawling back after doing so. If she felt that her life is here, after trying something else, so be it.
Thats what convinced them enough to allow 4 to return to duty. Theyll keep her safe another way. They also cant hide from themself the fact that theyre happy to see her again after so long.
