The First akuma is a tricky one! Since it's an obvious swap of Mylene and Ivan, I think it should be one of them - Stoneheart Mylene or Horrificator Ivan

The first akuma will need to be loud and straightforward, or else Beetle and Stray will have their ass beat

Stoneheart Mylene (combining her shyness and awkwardness) might be more associated with statues and blending in

Horrificator Ivan might be a really in-your-face akuma

"Since all of you see me as a big scary monster, I might as well be one!"

Sometimes in fanworks I’ll see people make Hyuna and Ivan best friends, and I think that’s cool, but then I’ll think about it for two seconds and start to feel crazy because in canon Mizi saw Ivan as her best friend, but Ivan, despite enjoying Mizi’s company, couldn’t connect with her because her optimism came from a place of naive innocence that Ivan never had, so he doesn’t show her a truer version of himself like he does with Sua or Till since Mizi (before and during Anakt) doesn’t have a similar experience with the world that he or they have. BUT Hyuna does have that experience and is optimistic because of and despite it. She understands resilience, the need for hope, and humanity’s strengths; she’s what Mizi could have been if she was prepared for what life in their world was actually like instead of being sheltered from it until young adulthood. Hyuna is someone that Ivan could relate to (more so because of her experience than her worldview; Ivan is a pretty pessimistic character stuck in his own head).

Fun fanwork interactions between two characters that never met in canon brings out the sad parallels between Mizi and Hyuna and also makes you think about how sad the IvanMizi friendship is.

Hans/ the nutracker prince / the nutcracker (russian adapted ballet +/ german book)

The nutcracker's name in the book is Hans allegedly. But for variety's sake (and because i'm more familiar with the ballet and always assumed it was a russian story) this guy is russian and is named Ivan. I could not give you his age on account of being a wooden doll but he's physically around 27

He has a blank and expressionless face but he's very easily flustered and very reactive inside.

He has a lot of penguin babies friends and they love him very very much thank you.

Gets along with Pinnochio on account of them both being living doll-adjacent

His eyes are snowflakes and i think that's precious, also they expand and 'freeze' more of his eyes when he's happy

He insists on wearing gloves to hold people's hands or touch them because he's always freezing cold

Pinnochio / Carlo / the adventures of pinnochio (italian book)

Nothing much to say on the name, but did you know he's named Pinnochio because he's made out of Pine wood? He's pretty short, but in this ver Carlo and thus Pinnochio died at age 19 or so, so he is 19.

Lies of P has done irreparable damage to my perception of Pinnochio and it shows in this design i fear.

He's a shy little man, he works as an assistant in his father's workshop, so while i kept the bright fun palette from the known adaptation i kept it to more leathery and working clothes. I might change the cravatte for a bow but the blue clip will stay, it's a source of life or something, blue fairy lore i need to think on. It's also why his eyes are blue.

The little prince / Le petit prince (french book)

He is never given a name in the story and even exclusively reffered to as the little prince. So at this point i'm inclined to believe his officia name iss The (first name) little (middle name) prince (last name)...... anyhow it feels sacrilegious to give him a name for some reason, but if i do name him he's being named Estelle. His age is as mysterious as him. But he's pretty tall, looks around 22

His freckles glow like stars and his hair glimmers like there's glitter dusted on it or stardust

I feel like his design is just too much like the book so i might have more fun with it

I think he's whimsical and playful, he has a penchant for theatrics and games in that childish sense, but he also comes across as very nurturing and mature. He likes to joke that he can use magic- but like.. can he? Or is it just an alien kinda deal.

Momotaro/ Peach boy (japanese children's folk tale)

Momotaro, i'm not changing it, it's adorable. He's 23 or so

Plant adjacent? He sometimes sprouts leaves and little flower buds in his hair.

Very serious, shouldn't be taken seriously. He's not a tsundere type he's just very bad at sounding and looking happy, and while he talks a big game most people don't take it seriously on account of him being short. He always looks pissed but he just has a real bad case of resting bitch face i think.

Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmanuel Ambroise Diggs / O.Z / The wizard of oz (american book)

The name stays because i cannot top this name even if i tried. It's iconic. He is the moment. He's 36.

His earrings are an explicit reference to Howl from Howl's moving castle.

He has grey hairs in there but he will deny that.

The worst man you will ever meet (but like he looks so hot doing it though.) he has the vibes of a conductor or a state fair magician, which is why he's so good at pulling his whole act, and he's so charismatic he needs to be put down. He is full of lies and deceit. I want to kiss him so bad.

Snow white / Snow white (german book)

First name Snow last name white oh my god their parent could not have been THAT much better than the evil queen for giving that name.... Schnee sounds cute tho so it's staying. He's 18, and very holdable.

The flowers on his head are the blooms on apple trees, his hair is in the vague shape of an apple.

Malewife, he's very softspoken and likes to do chores because it's uncomplicated. He also has a REALLY low attention span, the type to follow a butterfly off a cliff. He's airheaded and silly and tends to get sleepy easily because he's always doing chores around the clock.

Alice / Alice's adventures in wonderland (british book)

I'm on the fence on wether i should keep him named Alice or name him Alex.

Tbh i don't think he went to wonderland dude was just SOOOO high. That or he has severe mental issues. Either way something isn't right. He likes to write a lot, the alice in wonderland thing is a self insert he wrote. He Iikes to babble about the stories in his head a lot. He's a lucid dreamer sot there's probably that in there. He is always sleeping, he prefers it to being awake and in reality. In reality his clothing style is a lot more bland than how i drew it (i drew his wonderland outfit, it might change tbh)

Mermaid / the little mermaid (danish book)

The mermaid is never given a name in the original, so it should say '???' Like the little prince's, i just wanted to note down my name for him. It's Finn, because it's a danish name and i have poor sense of humor. Naming a mermaid Finn.

Tbh i might change this one out i feel like there's less stuff to do with little mermaid and i'm generally less inspired

I heard somewhere the little mermaid was actually a gay story but i have no recollection of proof. But i'll believe it. That being said for the sake of that, merfolk are hermaphrodites. And their language doesn't really have a need for pronouns. I also don't know why in my brain the little mermaid is a platinum blonde w blue scales but. I wanted to pull that out.

They're very very very lovesick and daydreamy, the type to stare and just smile dumbly at a wall because he has their favorite human on the brain... He tends to beach himself on the shore trying to grab stuff out of reach, it's almost gotten him in trouble a couple of times.

Alnst Songs Small-Analysis:

You've probably noticed by now. The songs in Alien Stage have a certain theme and the characters that fit that theme sing those songs. I'll touch on this a bit in this analysis.

My Clematis; MiziSua & IvanTill

In the original, it's about the love between MiziSua. They're the only two in each other's worlds and they idolize each other. In addition, IvanTill also sang the same song. I don't know if it was done on purpose or by accident, but IvanTill seems more reluctant in the song. Here, Ivan uses the phrase 'My god'. Unlike Sua's smile, Till gets uncomfortable. And in the official art, we see Ivantill's picture as broken hearted and looking away from each other. This is another clue that symbolizes that they don't understand each other at all.

Sweet Dream: Sua & Luka

Originally sung by Sua. Sung by two characters who have completely lost hope and wish everything was a dream. Sua and Luka, who are like dolls, with angelic voices and beauty. Both of them have never dreamed of escaping, they completely give up and focus on the best things in the situation they have fallen into. In the official art; Sua's happiest moment and world is Mizi. For Luka, his happiest moment includes Hyuna and Hyunwoo. As a method of escaping reality, they tie their lives to those people and dissociate themselves from the rest. The helplessness of both of them also symbolizes the helplessness of humanity. That's why the song has the opening atmosphere.

Unknown Till The End: Till & Mizi

There is no need to say much about this song. It is a love song written by Till for Mizi. In another version, Mizi and Till sang the song together. Why Mizi? He probably sings it with Mizi in Till's mind. As you know, he wrote the song for him.

Black Sorrow; Ivan & Mizi

Ivan's dark love. More than a one-sided love, this love wears him out to death. He feels helpless and left behind. For him, his love for Till is very painful and both sets him free and imprisons him. Mizi also sings the same song after Sua's death. Her love, which was her hope in the abyss, becomes trauma and pain for her. She feels abandoned by Sua.

Ruler of my heart; Luka, Mizi, Sua & Hyuna

A song written by Luka for Hyuna. Luka and Mizi sing it together, thinking about the person they fell in love with. Apart from these two, Hyuna and Sua also sing this song. I think there are two reasons why Sua sings this song. One is that Mizi was probably imagining Sua when she sang it with Luka. That she sang it with her. The other reason is of course Sua's love for Mizi.

As for Hyuna; Since this song was written for Hyuna, it was expected that she would sing it. Also, according to a theory, Hyuna started humming the song herself when she heard Luka's song. As you know, she loves Luka too.

All In: Hyuna & Till

A song sung by Hyuna. The theme of the song is rebellion for freedom. Till and Hyuna are two characters fighting for their individuality and freedom. They want to live for themselves and are the only characters who fight against the aliens who captured them. No matter what, they never give up and have a rebellious nature. This is the biggest thing these two have in common.

Love And Peace & Drunk and Party: Hyuna

I put these two songs side by side because it shows the two sides of Hyuna. One is about Luka, who she still hasn't stopped loving, and their past, which hurts her. The other side is about her side who wants to forget everything and have fun, and Hyuna, the leader of the Rebellion Group, singing it as hope for them.

Cure: IvanTill & MiziSua

The song sung by Ivan and Till. It's about the love they feel helplessly and painfully. It's also sung by MiziSua. The biggest difference between the two songs is that Ivan and Till never sing a single lyric together throughout the song. They sing it as if they're singing two separate songs. Besides, MiziSua's lines are either one after the other or they sing it together because their feelings are mutual, unlike IvanTill.

Blink Gone: Till, Luka & Mizi

Sung by Luka and Till. The song is about living in the moment and not dwelling on the past, and that we can lose people we love and care about in a blink gone. This song is also sung by Mizi. So what do the three of them have in common? Mizi lost Sua in a blink gone. Till lost Ivan in a blink gone. Luka lost Hyuna in a blink gone. Oh in a blink gone, they all gone.

Wiege: Luka & Hyuna (HyuLuka)

A lullaby-like song sung by Luka and Hyuna. They sing as if they are both childhood versions of each other and comforting each other. At the same time, they sing for all the children in Alien Stage. About their innocence. The reason why the song revolves around Luka is because Luka symbolizes childhood and infancy in the series. Bonus; Luka is the only person Hyuna sings with, and the only song Luka sings in a more equal and balanced role is with Hyuna.

Nowhere: Ivan

Ivan's individual song. This song shows Ivan before he met Till. A song written in a depressive tone about a child who doesn't belong anywhere, who is unloved, who doesn't exist. The song shows Ivan's depressive and self-hatred side.

Take my hand: Hyuna

Hyuna's individual song. Although there are many different opinions for this, the song was written for Luka more than anyone else. Hyuna, who calls Luka her weakness, calls him her strength in this song. Unlike the previous songs, she is now more at peace with her past and love and sings in a hopeful way. And she tells Luka not to give up and to fight. It is a hopeful song that both consoles him and saves him, and tells him about her love for him in the most beautiful way.

cracks knuckles i’m rusty but i wanna talk about BOFT laxus. there’s more below the small snip-bit but WARNING long and ramble-y

all freed says here is “the game is over” and to me he’s more so trying to indirectly ask laxus “what’s our next move?” bc as he said with no hostages makarov has nothing being held over him

but then laxus freaks out? i know it’s a high tension moment and you’re trying to take over your grandpas guild but there is no need to be doing all that. alsooo u know this isn’t normal for him because the glare alone makes freed surprised and then he lit-chralllyyyy stands in shock that laxus tried to hit him. you can interpret it as laxus was overcome with emotions and letting it out violently. or simply trying to threaten freed. but i think what’s important is that he doesn’t hit him, whether consciously or unconsciously he knows it’s not right to hit one of his closest friends

i also want to point out that laxus tries to shove freed away. all of sudden laxus assumes “he doesn’t want to follow him anymore”? which is a complete non sequitur because no where did freed imply he wasn’t going to follow along anymore, that was all laxus

it’s crazy how self destructive he’s being right now. trying to say his fairy tail doesn’t need him (or “i don’t need you” if you want to have fun) even tho the raijinshuu has been a thing for at least like 5 years. it’s unknown what exactly they’ve all been thru together, it’s obviously post scar but who knows if they were there when ivan was expelled. what matters is that the raijinshuu most likely have seen very ugly sides of laxus, but its this moment that shocks freed

and before moving on i want to mention that even here laxus is showing why the raijinshuu follow him

his word choice is interesting. “by the likes of erza”? “when did you get so weak”? he truly placed trust in evergreen, he saw her as powerful, that’s why she’s on his side. he knows erza too, being an s class mage but he still believed evergreen had what it takes to defeat her. mashima has made ever really.. weak. she used to be able to push around elfman no sweat with a flap of her fan and she could honestly utilize her explosive power better, but mashima wants to keep playing and keep her to 2 spells WHATEVER. next part

before the crash out of x784, i just wanted to say how patient freed is w laxus bc i think its incredible how he's still willing to smile at him after earlier that day laxus flung a lightning bolt at him. i think he really is someone who stabilizes laxus and extends kindness to him when not many others will. in freeds flashback in his fight w mira you can see makarov entrusts laxus to freed to keep him out of trouble after some time. its been mentioned freed first disliked laxus just like many other guild members, so it means a lot to me that he was able to see through his rough exterior and grow closer from that point onward

anyways onto THE CRASH OUT OF THE CENTURY

he absolutely lost it, he wanted to see bodies on the ground, but deep down in his heart that isn’t his true desire. and he absolutely despises that fact. he is going THROUGH IT. its about fairy law, its not about taking over the guild, it was his deep seated insecurities really surfacing in this moment and honestly its kinda sad. at that moment he was expressing how much he wanted to exist outside of his grandfather

and the thing is everyone looks concerned. like its a mixture of "what is he going to do next?" and "wow this is a lot" bc laxus is pouring his heart out, which must look strange to the guild members who never got to know him outside of his cruel demeanor. but i think its especially sad when i look at freed bc he seems... forlorn? he must see that laxus is hurting inside but the fact he is refusing help and isnt listening to reason leaves him disappointed yet saddened

and after natsu defeats him, you have to imagine freed, despite being beaten up himself, supported laxus right? he had to carry him and patch him up despite everything? it must have been such a strange and solemn moment for the both of them because laxus mustve come to the realization that he was in the wrong. that he was disillusioned with the idea of power that he lost his way. it very much reads like that when he speaks to makarov with how calm he is, as though he has already reflected upon his actions

i think when we see laxus in his debut arc, he was already too power obsessed to see any of the reasons why the raijinshuu stuck with him. its only at the end of the arc we get a glimpse of the laxus they saw. he joked around with them, even as he was getting expelled. he wanted to be well in his absence and he wanted them to stay so they could grow, perhaps without his destructive self in the way. laxus wasnt always horrible, their departure showed that. if that really was the case, bickslow, evergreen and freed wouldnt act like that and they wouldnt want to follow him. sure perhaps the raijinshuu formed due to the common interest of strength, but in the end they grew to be true friends. i jusssttt wish that mashima developed that more, i dont nearly get to see them interact in a prolonged moment i feel, but i know im never getting that now

this is the end. this post kind of meanders around the BOFT arc, and my thoughts arent final, i always like hearing different perspectives because i interpret things a little off sometimes, but i really like thinking about laxus, the raijinshuu, and the dynamics they share together

till does protest and tries to squirm his way out of bed, however the success rate is low. ivan isn't letting go of him and you're not helping, which leaves till a huffing and puffing grump almost every morning.

whenever ivan doesn't feel an overwhelming need to slow down your shared mornings, he gets out of bed and makes breakfast for the three of you, offering a pleasant start to your day.

the three of you are inseparable — even if all of you have work to attend to on a certain day, the evening will be spent relaxing at home while attached to each other like a bunch of leeches. till's social battery is drained and therefore won't say much nor will he really move from his spot. ivan is either yapping in your ear about what happened during his day or he'll be completely silent, playing with your hair.

on days where all of your schedules are clear, though, best believe the three of you are leaving the comfort of your home for once. there is no such thing as just you and till going out, or just you or ivan, or just them two. no! it's one for all and all for one. with your contrasting personalities that, surprisingly enough, don't clash, each and every date is something new and fun.

the three of you unabashedly match outfits, down to the accessories. they're not the kind of matching outfits that are nearly identical save for someone wears a skirt instead of pants or something, the kind of matching outfits you'd see generic couples on the street wear. but rather, they're outfits that showcase all of your personal styles while also complementing each other, whether it be through colors or patterns.

the three of you are head—turners for sure. charismatic, talented, handsome and a good sense of style? people can't decide if they want to be one of you or if they want to be with all of you.

well, that's the good side of being head—turners. of course, people who scowl when seeing two people of the same gender together or when seeing multiple people, regardless of the gender, together exist. unfortunately for them, you three tick both of those boxes. do you care though? nope!

if you begin to feel a little bit self—conscious because of the judgmental stares, ivan will be quick to comfort you via words and till will do his best to make you feel less worried as well via awkward pats on the back or on the crown of your head. he's not great with affection, but he's even worse when it comes to using his words.

the two of them never let you be under the weather. both of them are observant and will pick up on the little telltale signs right away. till's preferred method of lightening your spirits includes executing acts of service for you. that means preparing one of your favourite meals or desserts, bringing you snacks, silently handing you small trinkets that look so silly they'll put a smile on your face.

on the other hand, ivan is much more direct. if you're not aversed to physical touch he'll give you as many snuggles as you need until you're not so upset anymore, he'll talk to you and offer advice or sweet compliments.

you thought days with them were memorable? oh, but the nights you spend together sometimes..

have the three of you tried to engage in passionate love making before? yes, you have. did it always end up turning in rough, almost animalistic fucking because neither of you can conceal the pure desire you harbor for one another? again, yes.

ivan is open to anything and everything. total freak in bed. till isn't as fond of experimenting, preferring to stick to what he knows he likes. regardless of their differences, they both love you in such a way under the sheets that you feel like a lamb stuck inbetween two wolves — except the actual predator/prey concept isn't prominent. they're not claiming you.

they're not claiming you, they're openly displaying their love and adoration for you. till is the type to whisper praises into your ears, going on about how you're such a good, pliant boy for them while ivan loses himself in the warmth of your hole.

courtesy of ivan and his versatility, each night spent exploring each other's bodies incorporates a new element into your ever—changing routine of sorts. despite what you might think, it isn't that tough to coax till into trying something new out. just smother his face in kisses while ivan uses words to convince him and he'll be putty in both of your hands in no time!

So I see my drawing for the RusAme AUs got alot more love than I expected and I saw a few tags and a few friends asking what AU's are shown, and what is their plot.

I will say this, these are my AU's or an AU that I helped create. A lot of them are inspired by games or music, truthfully.

1. Monster Hunter

A big AU i am working in with @gremlins-hotel . We do plan to make a blog and reveal more of the AU eventually but with the new game coming out, we want to polish the plot a bit more before we post anything

Ivan being a Hunter from the New World and Alfred being a Rider, and his monstie Alti [a Tobi-Kadachi] being from a secluded tribe in the Old World.

2. Horizon x Hetalia

An AU based on the Horizon [ZeroDawn and ForbiddenWest] game series.

A post apocalyptic US setting where these guys made a clones of themselves along with their history to try and help aid the future generations.

But of course, time erodes everything. Even history and memories.

Alfred having his process to remember his history haunted due to a malfunction leaving him with broken memories and being in the hands of a very territorial tribe. He was raised a warrior struggling to remember this real name, all while Ivan is helping Matthew on the search to find Alfred .

3. Ersatz

One of my older but more proud AU's. A sci-fi, horror setting in the...strangely not so distant future with alot of drama between national embodiments and their yearn to be immortal through...experimental methods. Even if that means using an Alien for their own bodily needs.

Majorly inspired by the game Prey [2017]

4. Final Fantasy 14 x Hetalia

Astrologian Ivan and Red Mage Alfred, two Au Ruí from different tribes, grown in different ways, even told to hate one another. Yet they are somehow bound together...through time and soul.

5. XenoChronicles [name may change] *

Based on the multiple Mech Animes I've watched , (mainly) Xenoblade X and the few sci fi shows i grew up loving; these two are lost in space.

Alfred being a mechanic added onto the ship last minute, he is shown very little respect for being a cyborg. But Ivan being commander of a mech squadron who sees potential in the young man, even if he isn't completely human.

6. A Forgotten Story *

One of Two High Fantasy AUs where Alfred is the hier of a Dragon Goddess and has no clue of his heritage and Ivan being a Arch Mage of the Arcane. Some call the Mage a god but he is just highly skilled.

7. Godly Vessels *

Second of the two High Fantasy AUs where a cult tries to overthrow a kingdom by summoning a god using a peasants body for sacrifice. But instead the god shares the body with them (Alfred). Ivan being a unwanted Royal Guard from a neighboring kingdom (that was destroyed by these vessels) is to protect this entity.

Eventually his service will be a blessing.

8. Voodoo down Bourbon *

This isn't a official AU compared to the others rather a fun joke AU i couldn't help but include. Espically since Mardi Gras is just around the corner and I am from Louisiana.

Ivan based on drunken tourist gets a bit too cocky with a stranger, and Alfred being of course a voodoo artist takes advantage of the tourist.

Truthfully it was fun to throw my own speech and slang to Alfred, so to have him say cher is so fun.

Besides based on some local folk lore I'm sure he reminds you of a certain villain.

The ones with the stars after the name are ones that I posted maybe once or never posted because I was too embarrassed to share these ideas. I make quite a few AUs but sometimes it's just for comfort reasons or something just sparked a sudden idea and then actually thinking on the subject, it is scrapped.

Or even just for a quick doodle and the idea is gone

So to see you guys actually are interested makes me quite happy, espically since I've been very stressed.

Today I want to talk about intentions. A while ago I made a post about why Izzy's toxic masculinity and internalized homophobia doesn't give him a free pass to treat other people like shit and then not try to atone for that. A lot of the Izzy apologists I see seem to be of that opinion: that because we take into consideration Ed's past trauma when thinking how his actions have hurt the people we care about, we should give Izzy the same grace.

Well, I don't actually think we should, and I'm going to tell you why.

First, though, I want to say that this isn't about attacking people who enjoy characters who are pieces of shit. Please, by all means, enjoy your grubby little shitstain characters (I absolutely have some of my own that I love). This is about discussing why it's problematic to twist the canonical narrative to label Ed as abusive and Izzy as a victim.

And, in my opinion, it comes down to intentions.

"But dimplyowl," you say, "someone's intentions don't matter when the result is harmful to the people around them!" And I think, to a point, yes, that's true. People who hurt others through careless or reckless behavior need to bear the responsibility of their actions and own up to it (something that imo Izzy does not do). But I think there's also a distinction that needs to be made between people who hurt and control others because they take pleasure in feeling powerful over them, and those who don't.

If we take a look at Izzy's actions in season one and compare them to Ed's actions in season two, in my personal opinion, it becomes clear that one of these men is someone who has repeatedly taken pleasure in mistreating the people around him, both insubordinates and people that he claims to "have love for." And that man isn't the dread pyrate Blackbeard.

Does Ed enact violence on other people? Yes. Does he "love a good maim?" Also yes. Does he enjoy hurting people? Mm, debatable. The thing about Ed is that he has a complicated relationship with violence. To him, it's a tool to be utilized when necessary. I think he certainly gets a sense of vindictive pleasure when instructing Fang to skin the French captain or when the people at the French party descend into chaos and set themselves on fire. But, importantly, it's because those are people who wronged him. Those are people who hurt him, who dug at his race and his background and took pleasure in using those things to hurt him.

But Ed doesn't enjoy violence for violence's sake. There's always a reason, whether it's in reaction to being insulted, belittled, or threatened, or whether it's because it's literally just in the job description, he has a reason.

In season two, his reason for mistreating the crew is that he's trying to provoke them into mutinying on him. And, like, honestly, he does a pretty shitty job of it. Up until we rejoin them, his big crime is overworking them. The crew is tired emotionally and physically, but for the most part they're unharmed. They lost Ivan on a raid, but any one of them could die on a raid at any time, because it's literally just a hazard of the job. Not a single one of them is even considering mutiny at this point.

Ed hits his breaking point when Izzy suggests that they try and "talk it through," and imo completely understandably. It's his fault that the morale on the ship is low, is it? It's his fault because he was sad and heartbroken and vulnerable? It's his fault because he was healing in his own way, but that wasn't acceptable to Izzy at the time, but now because the ship isn't fun for Izzy anymore, because Izzy is on the verge of losing his position of power as Blackbeard's first mate, now is when Izzy decides that maybe talking it through might actually be helpful? Yeah, if I were Ed, I would fucking shoot him too.

But not once do we get any evidence that Ed is taking any pleasure in wearing down the crew. When he hits his breaking point, he is very clearly not having a good time. He realizes that if he wants this to end, he needs to up the ante. He hands Izzy a loaded gun and offers himself up as an easy target. Izzy laughs at his suicidal boss, friend, someone that he "has love for", and tells him to do it himself. He prolongs Ed's suffering. He puts the crew in even more danger. And even as Ed is trying to make the crew kill him, he doesn't touch them. By this point, we've seen this crew turn to mutiny twice, once because of Stede's ineptitude and once because of Izzy's abuse when he took over as captain. It shouldn't take much to get them to act, and yet it takes Ed threatening to get them all killed in a storm for them to finally act. Because up until that point, he's been unstable, he's been clearly going through a crisis, but he hasn't hurt them, he hasn't been abusive. He's clearly not enjoying any of this, he's going through some shit, he's hurting, and they love him, and until their lives are imminent danger, they're discussing how to help him.

If Ed wanted to hurt them, if he wanted to push them into mutiny sooner, there are so many things he could have done to terrorize them. Instead until the point he decides he can't live anymore, his only hope is that either he'll get killed in a raid, or he'll overwork them enough that they'll kill him themselves. This is not about abusing his crew, this is about abusing himself.

In contrast, when we look at Izzy's behavior throughout season one, we see someone who very clearly enjoys his position of power over other people, and who gets pleasure out of abusing that power. In 1x2, he sows distrust and uncertainty in Ivan and Fang about Ed's decision-making, telling them that he's half-mad, keeping Ed separate from the crew, and discouraging any questions by asserting himself physically over Fang. (He then claims in 1x4 to have reassured the crew when they've doubted Ed's leadership, when in fact he seems to be the cause of that doubt). In 1x3 he blatantly lies to Ed about having "explicitly" (his word) told Stede that "Blackbeard wants a word with him." He is practically gleeful when he passes on Stede's message to go suck eggs in hell, clearly expecting that to get a rise out of Ed, certainly to get him to drop his fascination with the Gentleman Pirate, and probably intending for Ed to attack Stede himself for disrespecting him.

In 1x4, he flip flops between caring that some of their crew died while fighting the Spanish to get Stede and his crew, and telling Ivan and Fang to kill anyone who refuses to fight the Spanish. Intending to fight the Spanish warships that have caught up with him is absolutely going to get everyone slaughtered, when there are other options. Ed actually advises anyone who can to leave, knowing that that's their only chance for survival, and similarly he tells the Revenge crew to surrender when cornered by the British. In 1x4, he clearly considers every death that would occur to be his responsibility when he tells Stede that being Blackbeard means that everyone's going to die, and it's going to be all his fault. Who's the one who actually cares about what happens to his crew here?

In 1x5 Izzy attempts to exert control over Lucius and punish him for, apparently, not working on his day off? Never mind that there are two other people in that room who are slacking off. Izzy targets Lucius, who is an effeminate unapologetically gay man, who Izzy clearly believes will be an easy target. He attempts to mock his sexuality (which actually winds up being more telling on himself), decides that it's his right to tell someone else's crew what to do at all, and attempts to use Lucius as an example to show the rest of Stede's crew that their "days of doing fuck-all are over", but then doesn't give jobs to the rest of the crew? He catches one of his own crew members fucking off with Lucius, and from what we can extrapolate, decides to only punish Lucius, because clearly Lucius as the "seductress" is to blame. He threatens to blackmail Lucius into obeying him, is visibly enjoying threatening him and manipulating him, and leaves like a pissy toddler when he doesn't get his way. And by "get his way", I mean successfully gains control over someone through threats and manipulation.

In 1x6, he once again decides that an effeminate gay man needs to be punished for his existence, but this time it's Stede he sets his sights on. He decides that he needs to take action only after hearing Ivan say that he's never seen Ed so open and available. Izzy can't have that, because he needs Ed to be dependent on Izzy, so that Izzy can continue to isolate Ed from the rest of the crew, can remain the only source of contact between Ed and the crew, and thereby easily control and manipulate both parties. He pressures Ed into finally acting on what he said he would do, belittling Stede and Ed's connection to Stede by referring to Stede as Ed's pet. (It is not an accidental choice that the writers will later have another antagonist refer to Stede as Ed's pet; it's deliberate mirroring to Izzy as an antagonist). He uses Stede's ego to manipulate him into insisting on putting on the fuckery so that they can get rid of Stede today--almost as if he knows that putting immediate pressure on Ed to act won't give him time to reconsider, to rethink, to back out, to maybe consider why Izzy is so adamant about this--and then uses Stede and Ed's relationship to further manipulate Stede into doubling down on doing the fuckery when he's doubting himself. And doing it in possibly the creepiest way possible?? Stede literally puts up a physical barrier between them, and Izzy pushes against that, actually literally pushes up against the curtain to push against the boundary that Stede has put up.

And then when it's clear Ed isn't going to kill Stede, Izzy decides that he's going to take that decision out of Ed's hands. He decides he knows better than Ed what's best for him, places more value in his own decisions than Ed's, essentially mutinies on Ed by disobeying him, and on Stede by challenging him to a duel. He clearly believes he's going to win, and easily, in the process forcing someone he again claims to "have love for" to watch as he destroys the only thing that's brought hope and life and light and enjoyment back into Ed's life. He's embarrassingly easily goaded into losing his temper, relishes the moment he thinks he's won, the moment he stabs Stede, loses his temper again when his sword is stuck. Canyonites love to talk about Ed having anger problems, but this episode clearly demonstrates who actually has the anger problem. He looks to Ed when he realizes he's lost, as if Ed is going to forgive him, let him stay, when he just tried to kill Ed's friend and (only in Izzy's mind at that point) lover.

Izzy then turns to the fucking cops to turn Stede in. He reinforces his belief that Ed isn't capable of making his own decisions when he refers to Stede as having "done something" to Ed's brain, as if Ed is a weak-willed, easily manipulated child. He sends Jack in because he knows that Jack will put a wedge between Ed and Stede, and hopefully to get Ed out of there before the navy shows up. He apparently doesn't consider the fact that Ed is the most wanted pirate in the world, and if Jack doesn't succeed, will be in life-threatening danger. But maybe he doesn't care about that, considering what he tells Ed later.

He arranges for Ed to be put into his custody. Like, I shouldn't have to say anything about that, because it's fucking disgusting. Like Ed is property to be handed over to Izzy. He tries to convince Ed that Stede's execution is actually a kindness, despite knowing what it will do to Ed. When that fails, he tries to convince Ed not to take the Act and sign the contract, but...isn't that what Izzy himself just did?

In 1x9 we get more of his control and manipulation over the crew. Taking away a week of Wee John's rations for making a comment about Izzy's terrible name for his ship, as he is actively eating in front of him. Making Ivan and Fang serve him, telling them his food needs more salt, and then not even eating more of it when they salt it? Fucking gross. That move is all about control.

And then 1x10, which I shouldn't even have to talk about, but the fucking horrible way he treats Ed apparently is still something that goes over some peoples' heads. Once again keeping him secluded from the crew, refusing to give them answers about what's going on, keeping them busy by literally spitting on their clean deck, when he could have just dumped the coffee out on it. Watching Ed grieve and bond with the crew, once again deciding for Ed that he knows what's best for him, interrupting his grieving process, telling him that what he's become is worse than death. Threatening him that if he doesn't return to the very specific image that Izzy says Blackbeard is, that Izzy will kill him. Later on his deathbed apology admitting that he knew that being Blackbeard was harmful to Ed, but that he kept pressing because Izzy needed him, needed Blackbeard in order to feel powerful, to keep the level of respect and fear that other people had for him.

All of this paints a picture of a person who enjoys feeling powerful, who enjoys using that power to hurt and abuse and control the people around him, who will do anything, even at the detriment of someone that he has "love for", to keep that power for himself. A person who takes pleasure in hurting people, physically and emotionally.

I see a lot of people trying to say that what Ed did was worse than what Izzy did. I personally don't think it was, when you add up the consistent way that Izzy mistreats every person around him. But I think that what's even more important in this discussion are the intentions behind the hurt.

Ed did everything he could not to harm his crew until it became evident that the only way he could be successful in getting them to kill him would be by giving them a very present, very real threat. And even then, the way he went about doing it was very distant. Making Jim and Archie fight each other. Sailing directly into a storm. Damaging the ship to make an already dangerous situation even more dangerous.

Izzy repeatedly enjoyed exerting his control and physical and emotional violence on other people. He displayed a pattern of believing himself to be the only person capable of making the right choices, of removing the agency from the people around him, specifically of removing Ed, a person of color's, agency. He hurt every single person around him, all for his own benefit, for his own gain.

Maybe it comes down to value systems, maybe intentions behind someone's behavior really don't matter to you, but I know that I am much more forgiving of someone who hurt me as a byproduct of hurting themselves than I am someone who knowingly, repeatedly hurts people because they enjoy it.

Alien stage au,, nothing too serious, but i think it would be awfully tragic for these lads

1. nesscas is in their own little world, they’re close and ofc ness is the first to die (as his role is similar to sua’s)

in this case, lucas would be mizi.. sticking it through, although a part of world has technically already collapsed due to ness’s unfortunate parting.

as for clausten, claus is definitely till coded. vice versa bc claus came first but; i could see claus acting similarly to him. ninten is a bit out of character to how i like to portray him in doodles i make, but ill have him play a similar role to ivan, not the same. longing to have a meaningful connection with claus, but claus pushes him away in order to maintain his focus on looking out for his brother and whatever obstacles they face. if they last long enough lawl rip

now again if ur reading this, they play a similar role, but they don’t exactly TAKE THE SAME PLACE where as every action mimics the original character,,as till has a crush/or admiration for mizi, i obviously chose NOT to implement that towards the twins. i’m normal. i might as well write it so nobody thinks otherwise ffs.. if anyone reads this.

Yapping about the contestants Guardian’s!

TW: Abuse,drugs,SA and etc.

So not many people talk about the Guardian’s in alien stage. I will be making opinions on each, but I will probably write more about the guardians when my art-book comes. Which would have all the lore I need.

Shine 🩷 (Mizi’s guardian

As we all should know, Shine is the most friendliest and definitely the most sweetest Gurdian. She loves humans and has curiosity to them. Mizi and Shien definitely had the most closest thing to a Mother and Daughter relationship out of everyone else.

Shine wanted nothing but good for Mizi, which is probably why she wanted her to be in Anakt Garden. Mizi had talent for singing and dancing. I am sure that if Shine knew that Mizi would have to suffer and go through pain. She would have not done it at all.

During round 5, Shine was watching. And you can tell how she felt looking at Mizi. She looks so sad :((

In all of Mizi’s birthday art or official art with Shine. She looked so happy in each one, always smiling or having fun. Shine loves Mizi like a normal person would love there pet. It seems messed up but Aliens see humans as Pets. But Shine still loves Mizi as her

Urak 🖕 ((Tills guardian

Urak is the Segyein of Till. And I will say he sucks the most. He treats Till horribly, in all ways. Mentally and physically. Urak has had other of his pets compete in Alien stage, but he says that Till is different from all of them because of his personality. He goes on saying that He only kept Till alive because of his Musical Talent he has. Urak believes that a Gurdian should learn right away what their pet’s strengths are to see if they are worthy.

In round 6 flashback Urak is forcing Till to sing “Oh my clematis” which Till refused to, which Urak throws a bottle at him, pinned him to a table. And when Till does break free, He attacked another segyein. Urak then once again assisted in restraining him. It’s said that Till was also SA in that flashback.

When Urak was asked about round 6 in an interview, Urak says that the only thing that matters is winning. It doesn’t matter how, if he wins it all worked. He also does expressed that it’s possible for Till to beat Luka, given how much Urak invested in him. (Which ages perfectly))

As much as I hate to admit. Even if Till is alive or not. I’m glad he lost because Urak has set another of his pets for Failure. And I hope he knows that, no matter how much he abuses, drugs or whatever shit he does. It won’t work because he will always set them in failure. Over and over again and it’s his fault.

Apparently Unsha and Urak have romance..??

Unsha🐁 ((Ivan’s guardian

Unsha is the Segyein of Ivan. Unsha isn’t physically abusive to Ivan but definitely is mentally. He has horrible has Urak since both Mentally and Physically hurt as much.

Unsha bought Ivan for his wife since it was her birthday. Ivan was choose because of his eyes which he found intriguing. Unsha also does mention that he had just begun to venture into the pet human entertainment business, so the timing was perfect for him. Which makes me believe that Ivan was Unsha’s first Pet.

If I’m correct In an interview, Ivan claims that Unsha is well known and him and Urak had nothing more then a business relationship. Saying they weren’t close in any way. Nothing more nothing less.

When asked for his thoughts on Ivan's impulsive actions during Round 6, Unsha replied saying he was disappointed that Ivan essentially forfeited the round, and he thought Ivan had a lot of potential even before Alien stage. He also admitted to being curious about what Ivan was thinking during around 6.

He closes the interview by saying he felt like he learned a lot being with Ivan, and it was worth the loss. He lastly that he doesn’t intend to participate in Alien stage again anytime soon.

Phan💀(Hyunas and Hyun-woo Gurdian

Phan is the Gurdian Segyein of Hyuna and Hyun-woo. Not much is shown or known of her since she was never brought up.

I did find that Heperu has an interesting to her similar to how Luka is obsessed with Hyuna.

Heperu🖕🖕🖕 (Lukas Gurdian

Heperu is the Gurdian Segyein of Luka. I might get blasted for this but I believe he’s the worst one yet. He claims that he had made Luka overcome fear, which makes me wonder what kind of things he had done to Luka. As we know Luka as went through a test with was monitoring his heart rate, and stoping his heart completely. Luka barley shows any kind of emotion. But he was crying in that art, Heperu disgust me.

Heperu ego is very high I can tell, because in a interview he claims that all of Lukas achievements and his talent is because of him. And he should thank him always for making him perfect. He always puts Luka very high, saying he will win no matter what.

In one of Lukas official art it shows Heperu shadow being in a position in which looks like kissing.?? And his hand was caressing him. Luka also looked quite young too which just gives me more creeps.

In the music Video all-in Luka kissed Hyuna, which I want to say. Was because of Heperu. Usually when someone was SA they see as a normal thing and do it to another person. That would explain why Luka kisses Hyuna.

Luka has been out through so much stuff because of Heperu and like everyone else has. Luka as very right to be the way he is. Because of Heperu and how cruel he is, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Till did become the same way.

Heperu also has a thing for Phan, having an attraction to Phan, just like Luka has an attraction to Hyuna??

Neigh🐛 (Sua’s Guardian

Not much is known from Neigh, but from what we know is that Niegh sees pets as nothing more than dolls. She dressed them all out usually the same. In a white dress like a doll.

In Neigh’s profile it’s shown that she has 0% interest in Sua. Probably because Sua is a copy of everyone else there. They are all the same as emotionless dolls. With no feelings or opinions.

I may hate every Guardian except for Shine, but they hold a lot of meaning in the story which I appreciate.

I'm obsessed with the idea of ani joining in the conversations about partners and bringing reader up like "they never let me cook! which is sweet but i want to cook too!" or "they drool a lot when they sleep!" in a innocent way not thinking much about the fact the other girls are talking about their partners and she just started yapping about reader like they're together.

I just know the fact she always brings reader up in partner conversations makes them even more confused when ani drops the information she's married and it's NOT with reader, like they're happy for her but 'what does she mean she's not with reader??' Yes, they tease her and joke about it but they fr think there's something going on with those two.

reader likes to sit close to anora when she's playing, they're reading a book or doing something job/studies related, stuff like that. They just like being around her either they have her attention or not, they just feel this comfortable aura coming from anora whenever she's close, she's home. You'll giggle about her getting mad at villagers and then ani looks at you annoyed because 'you're suppose to be on my side!' and you're like 'sorry, got to a funny part on the book...' and you're reading the saddest and most tragic book ever.

I think later on reader introduces ani to one or two more violent games where she can kick people's asses! probably Mortal Kombat, she'll definitely play this type of games when a client/her boss pissed her off badly on that particular day and she needs to punch someone to calm down, even if it's on a video game it helps her a lot! But she likes more the cozy games like animal crossing, stardew valley, even the sims (her favourite is the sims 2 because of all the attention to detail the game has).

You once tried to make her play an horror game (resident evil, until dawn, silent hill, amnesia) and she tried it, she really did but after some time she was like 'nop! I'm done! put my animal crossing NOW!'

About ivan, like I said his parents are to blame for a big part of who he is today but he's 21 already and that's old enough to at least KNOW not to leave your wife alone when she's fighting for a future with you against 3 MEN DOUBLE HER SIZE! like if you care about her and her safety you either runaway with her or you stay there with her! That scene is what makes me think that anora cares about him but he doesn't care about her or at least not as much, you know?

YES! There's nothing wrong with wanting to have fun and be free, you don't have to be serious all the time like life's too short for that shit, but the fact he doesn't take anything serious, never thinks before doing a joke or just the way he treats people bellow him (maybe besides anora) lacks sense, maybe even empathy, like why yell as a joke at this staff member who's apologising already for not having the room ready because 1. THEY DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE COMING! and 2.BECAUSE IT WAS BEING USED!! it's a terrible joke, it can make that poor person lose their job if their superior happens to walk by, it lacks touch with reality too!

On the coke scene: if he had taken too much coke, mixed with the alchool and probably other drugs that shit could lead to his death or a coma! toros and garnick aren't stupid, they very likely know that ivan is using drugs and shit like that but if they don't know how much he has done/where he is how are they suppose to help him if it goes wrong? they are there to keep him alive, to keep him in line too, but mostly to keep his ass alive! You don't have to be serious 100% of your time but you also can't be 100% of your time acting like this petulant kid. ivan strikes me as someone who doesn't want to be treated like a kid and wants to be free but he hasn't shown any sense of responsibility to be able to take care of himself alone, like he can still have a kid spirit and be responsible AND sensible towards other people.

Oh i don't think he would even bother to ask anora about her past because like you pointed out he only calls her ani, she only started existing when ani did too. if ani did try to talk to him about it, open up about her past and stuff he wouldn't pay much attention, too distracted playing video games or on his phone. He would be like one of her friends boyfriends she heard so many complains about, you know?

it's a cute assumption but now I'm a little disgusted with it because of what I know... so embarrassing to me! i think with ivan she tried to keep it as much fairytale-ish as she could so she also tried to be a fairytale character, maybe because she felt the need she showed him her true self he would leave, while with igor she didn't want to/felt the need to put up a character, because he wouldn't leave since he understands her struggles.

I do agree that I prefer igor and ani over ivan and ani, like there's somehting more realistic about them, more personal and more 'honest-ish' for lack of a better word to express what I mean. I think ani needs someone a little more serious and responsible than ivan but also someone who can be carefree and I think if we had more time we could see igor being carefree around ani.

Anora only deserves the best and whatever or whoever that is I hope she's happy and at peace!

HELLO I DIDN'T MEAN TO LEAVE THIS ASK FOR SO LONG it kept cutting off when i tried to answer on mobile (which i was restricted to at the hospital) and eventually i decided to leave it until after i actually watched anora and had more formed thoughts!

ani's got a good rapport with the girls at HQ (barring diamond obviously). with how they flocked to see the fight, i bet they're pretty nosy too, listening intently to pick up on clues of if reader and ani are together. they'd have bets on it. lulu (who's basically the captain of the reader x ani ship) would scoff if anyone said reader's just ani's best friend, offended because obviously she is ani's best friend thank you very much.

sometimes when lulu invites ani out after work, ani says that you two have plans, excitedly yapping about how she's planning to decorate your shared sims' house or the ccs she downloaded. and lulu has this knowing look, cause that's so domestic? sweet? calm? not something ani would find fun if you weren't the one showing it too her. like, lulu finds ani in their backstage/changing room area on her switch, doing her daily fruit foraging in her ACNH island, probably cussing out tom nook for upping the house fee when she JUST paid the last one off. lulu knows all of ani's smiles and the ones about you/something you showed her are different to her performance smiles, to her flirty customer service. they're even different from when she's bragging about what a catch ivan is, about his mansion or how much he likes her.

how much he likes her. never the other way around. any other girl would be half in love with how vanya splashes out his time, attention, and cash. even if ani hasn't realised it herself, it's because her heart's already occupied with reader. imagine ani being away for that first week, apologising over and over to reader cause they already made plans while you just tell her it's ok. and then the next two weeks of their marriage, ani was happy and swept up in the excitement but also... restless? missing you? she busied herself with polishing up her russian, in the lavish new wardrobe and new life. in the dark of night wondering when it'll make her as happy as a simple day with you.

ivan's actually pretty interesting now that all the clips have context. he didn't run to not be caught, but more so to take in all the fun he could before he was whisked back - hitting up all the clubs, getting so drunk he wouldn't worry anymore. he didn't even plan to leave ani, fully wanted her to run with him. it was more... "consequences? what are those? boringgg". didn't wanna talk about his family, didn't wanna hear a word of reprimand from his parents, considers anything that isn't having fun as unnecessary. and especially him thanking ani for making his last trip fun as if he didn't ask her to MARRY him, when she was sceptical in the first place and told him not to tease her! she made sure he was sincere multiple times and he strung her along, pure and simple, knowing his parents wouldn't let that happen. knowing that he wouldn't actually fight his parents for it/for them.

gonna write some thoughts on ivan on another post this is getting too long and tbh i was more focused on anora :P (basically he's all about freedom and even argues back when they make a comment about him possibly marrying a man). the marriage was a fantasy to him, as is america, it's a freedom he won't actually pursue at the end of the day. not when being under his parents' thumb is easier. him being treated like a child is actually a privilege. ani's only two years older and knows so much more of responsibilities, of what it takes to earn and own things, of consequences. all vanya has to do is simper and follow his mom, childishly asking if her clothes are from the new collection rather than listening to her beratement.

i feel like if the marriage didn't collapse because of his parents, it'd be whenever ani decides she's had enough of the partying or the smoking and watching him play games. he asks about her parents, and she even offers to let them meet or go meet her sister. she wants to go to disneyworld for their honeymoon. but vanya would be the same vanya. show up drunk and blazed, embarrassing her in front of her mom and stepdad (while she covers his ass and lies "oh i swear he's not always like this, he's just tired"). ruining her childhood dream by letting his friends crash their honeymoon and trash the cinderella suite. she'd realise that this isn't perfect, that it isn't sustainable. it's fun, yes, ivan was right that they'd probably still have fun together if he wasn't rich. but imagine them going through the paperwork of getting that green card, of her trying to make him take it seriously so he can stay. applying, appointments, providing papers and proof... vanya would groan and act like ani's dragging him to do this. and he'd offer ani hits from his bong like he did to klara, never thinking about if something's the right time.

to contrast a relationship where ani would have to be the mature one, ani is notably different with igor (obviously). even if not romantically, having someone there that she can freely bitch at, let out her tension on, that accepts her moods must feel freeing. all these masks she puts on, be that at the club, or the perfect wife for vanya/his family. she's got her barbs, she's allowed to be prickly and abrasive and say whatever comes to her head. igor will laugh it off. she softened near the end (not the end end, i'm sure there's a lot of thoughts on that) when she brought him that blanket. wordlessly sharing blunts or taking the cig from his mouth, smiling when he laughs at a joke she slung to hurt his feelings. he doesn't just take it either. he asks why she says these things about him, asserts that he isn't (a gopnik, a f-slur ass bitch, a drug dealer, a rapist etc), but doesn't get mad at her for it. when toros or galina says "no, that didn't happen", it's to shut ani up, to not listen, to prove that she doesn't have a say/doesn't have power in the situation. when igor says it, it's on equal grounds-that he had to because he was genuinely scared about ani and that he didn't want her to hurt herself. AND after apologising multiple times, rather than jumping to "i didn't hurt you". it was "you were never in danger of being harmed".

Oliver: Oliver would get the idea after a chaotic but fun family gathering over the holidays where he brings MC to meet his close family first. The image of MC and their little ones around the table to celebrate their own traditions is something he can't get out of his head after that.

Joseph: seeing how well MC gets along with his daughter (and constant insistence of marriage from the child herself), he finally realizes it's time to ordain MC as the step-parent--and potentially full-parent other kids? Baby steps... baby steps

Ivan: just being in a solid relationship of a few years with MC is enough to spur the idea. Yup, this is the one I wanna spend my life with (and possibly start a family with, depends on MC honestly)

every time someone makes fun of a hockey player's name, an angel loses its wings.

very often, I want to say the strong majority of the time, when I see posts like "this player can't be real with a name like that" or "that's not a real name", the name in question is simply Not Anglo-American. just pulling from memory, people are saying names like Zeev Buium (name origin: Hebrew), Arber Xhekaj (name origin: Albanian/Kosovar), Zemgus Girgensons (name origin: Latvian), Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (name origin: Finnish), and Ivan Miroshnichenko (name origin: Russian) are "fake" names, "NPC" names, or "Japanese baseball" names (after the infamous "Fighting Baseball" game where a dev had to make up a bunch of fake names on the spot). I hope I don't need to point out how this is often xenophobic. I don't think most people are actively aware that they're perpetuating xenophobic thinking when they do this, they just go haha name funny, but ultimately this can be deeply xenophobic.

maybe I see it differently than others - but I'm half-Polish, and as long as I can remember, my Polish family and friends' names have been butchered by (usually) English-speaking Americans, often with snide comments on the side about "are you sure this is your name?" and "this is spelled correctly?" to really rub it in. often enough, this ends with the Pole anglicizing their own name so it "doesn't cause any more problems" - Katarzyna becomes Kate, Grzegorz becomes Greg, Mariusz becomes Mark, Zuzanna becomes Sue. god forbid you have a name like Czesława or Bogdan, where you'll either go by a name like Jessie or Danny (which aren't at all related to the original name) or just get mispronounced forever. oh, and by the way, if you've noticed, almost all of these names turn into diminutives. I'll leave you to think about why.

you probably don't know who Teodors Bļugers is. that's because he anglicized his name to Teddy Blueger so it wouldn't cause problems for announcers. on the Cup, his name is spelled Teddy Blueger, not Teodors Bļugers.

...even when the name is "normal" (think Jason Robertson, Robert Thomas, Jake Bean, Will Smith), making fun of it is a dick move. you're essentially telling someone that their name isn't real - that a core part of their identity must be fabricated because it "sounds funny" to you. and yes, the fourth wall exists and hockey players won't (or at least shouldn't) be on tumblr reading your posts, but people who are from these cultures or have similar names likely will be. and it's they who are being told, because your name does not fit our criteria, it is not a real name. (plus, while tumblr is relatively safe from fourth-wall breaches, other social media such as twitter is infamous for having hockey player burners on them. if Patrik Laine can find and like posts calling him a bust, you best believe players can find and read your opinions online.)

Miraculous Ladybug characters and what character in Mario Kart 8 I think they choose as well as if they’re good at the game, based on the vibes I get from them!

Marinette: Used to play Peach but now is purely loyal to Toadette and Toadette ONLY! Canonically great at video games, so Mario Kart is naturally included.

Adrien: CAT PEACH. If anyone else chooses Cat Peach, he immediately gives them a DEVASTATED look and they swap immediately. Very good at the game, he has three stars on every cup!

Alya: Daisy. She will FIGHT anyone else trying to pick Daisy. Nobody is taking Daisy from her. She’s pretty decent at the game but is mostly just here to have fun and maybe kick some ass.

Nino: Strikes me as either a Yoshi guy or Shy Guy guy, though he’s chill if other people wanna pick them. Also decent but has a grudge against certain NPC opponents.

Chloé: Pink. Gold. Peach. Threatens to sue if anyone else takes her. She’s actually pretty good at the game and tends to be VERY agro. No mercy, she needs to WIN.

Kagami: Has swapped between a lot of different people but settled on Link. Incredibly intense in-game. She’s willing to battle to the death.

Félix: Isabelle from Animal Crossing. Do not let it fool you. He wants to WIN and he will red shell you at the worst time to do it.

Luka: Claims he’ll ‘Choose anybody’ but he’ll go for Rosalina if given the choice. He’s just trying to have fun and is 90% of the reason why controllers are not thrown at the TV. Juleka claims he’s “Going easy” on everyone so less feelings will be hurt. (She’s right, he loses on purpose a lot.)

Juleka: Dry Bones or Dry Bowser, she thinks they’re both cool. Doesn’t usually get top 5 if everyone is playing but consistently gets 6-7th! Hitting people with red and blue shells is kinda cathartic for her.

Rose: Sometimes picks one of the baby versions of the characters, but other times chooses one of Bowser’s kids, like Wendy or Roy. The former is for when she’s playing to have fun, the latter is for when she’s gunning for top 3.

Zoé: Pretended to be bad at the game until she realized she didn’t need to spare anyone’s feelings. Very good at the game, knows a lot of the techniques to give herself mini boosts. She LOVES Boswer Jr., especially after becoming Kitty Noire.

Sabrina: Genuinely one of the best players… When she’s not playing with Chloé. Otherwise she’s always letting her win, aiding her the best she can, and pretty much always gets whatever rank is directly behind hers. Claims her favorite character is Baby Peach (it’s actually King Boo).

Kim: DONKEY KONG. Also occasionally Wario. He’s actually kinda terrible at the game but he tends to spams items and makes that everyone else’s problem.

Max: Chooses one of the Inkling Kids (he strikes me as someone who also probably loves Splatoon). He’s good at the game but with how many other people are also good at the game, sometimes he gets overshined. He’s better at fighting games.

Alix: Waluigi 100%. She thinks he’s hilarious and while she doesn’t actually care, she WILL bring up ‘Waluigi should’ve been in Smash Ultimate’ At some point, because she thinks it’s funny. Not great at the game, is here purely to spam items and fuck over as many people as possible.

Myléne: Terrible at the game but plays to have fun! Likes to play Boswer because Ivan has cosplayed as him before.

Ivan: Also terrible at the game but likes losing alongside Myléne. Likes to play as Luigi, though occasionally chooses Dry Boswer if no one else has.

Nathaniel: Rarely plays but will choose Rosalina or Lemmy if he does. Likes to play against other casual people but usually dips if too many competitive people are playing at once.

Marc: Surprisingly really good though isn’t always good about asking if he can have a turn or not. Loves to pick the animal crossing villagers if they haven’t been chosen.

Lila: Claims she’s won a championship before. Is actually terrible at the game with the worst luck and very rarely plays. The first time she was gonna play with the class, she selected Cat Peach. Everyone stared at her as Adrien gave her the most devastated look. She panicked and faked an injury to stop playing altogether.
