Please don’t say it, Those are the words I can’t stand to hear. It’s safer for me, If I never believe this sentiment is possible. It’s better, If I just keep numbing and pretending. I’ve imagined what it could feel like, To hear these words. What they would taste like if I ever said them out loud. I can’t bring myself to even want them. To love, is a weakness I can’t let in right now. //////////////////// This is a poem about love yes. But not the romantic love we often associate these sentiments with. This is a reflection about self-love, self-worth, and our self-imposed prisons we put around our hearts. “I love you.” Words that we were not taught to say to ourselves. Words that were taught to only share with another yet, it is our hearts that crave this affection for ourselves. Not from conceit. Not from self-envy.
