Adding on to my The Batman post, I forgot to mention how much I adore the way they handle the no killing rule. In terms of plot, I don't think it's mentioned at all as a sticking point. He won't kill and that's that.

But there's one particular scene. Carmine and Selina. Bruce has just punched Carmine to the ground, saving Selina's life, and is now trying to wrestle the gun away from her. She tries to convince him. "He has to pay!"

And right here is where I thought that stupid classic line was gonna be. I could see it coming like a freight train. "If you kill him, you'll be just as bad as he is." But then... I'm wrong. It doesn't happen. Instead, Bruce makes a very different statement.

"You don't have to pay with him. You've paid enough."

And with that, he gets the gun and Carmine is arrested. There's no moral high ground, there's no shitty logic.

Bruce has seen what The Roman has done. Who he's hurt. What he's taken away. Selina's mother. Her girlfriend. Bruce's own parents. He knows better than anyone the need for revenge. For justice. But he also knows that this man before him, lying bloodied on the floor, has taken enough. He's taken their families, their morals, their innocence. But he doesn't get to take away their lives. He doesn't get to have that power.

And then Carmine is shot and killed anyway so Selina got what she wanted in the end either way.

Anyway, I used Ren'Py! If you want to look at the code for it, then if you download it, everything should be easily accessible as .txt files in the "game" folder. I also credited the code I based the dialogue box on at the end/in the info section of the game. The game basically runs in NVL mode, but the NVL box is inside a viewport (the scroll you see). I was heavily riffing off of Disco Elysium's format, since something like that worked best for the half-NVL half-ADV style I wanted.

So, I may have taken my first foray into roleplay, and it was so much more effective than I thought it would be, to my embarrassment (not nsfw roleplay, just the Thing)

My boyfriend and I set up a rewards system for funsies with writing. While I do a lot of writing, I am fucking atrocious at finishing things don't look at me and my hundreds of unfinished short stories/novels ever again so we set up a system essentially going off of this metric:

1,000-3000 word short story/polished scene of book per week: 10 minutes of tickling in whatever way is desired

A streak of 4: One scenario that can be enacted (playing video games while getting tickled, roleplay scenarios, subtle public tickling, etc)

A streak of 8: He'll draw me something cool 😎

Anyways, for one of my scenarios I thought it would be cool to do a mad scientist thing, where he's experimenting techniques and stuff on me and I act as the "unwilling subject"

Anyways, so I was tied up and we were joking a bit, but when he started the timer, his attitude switched up so fast

Suddenly he was utterly stoic. He played a lot with anticipation, just pacing around me and muttering observations to himself (he committed so hard to the role because he's a dork and I love him). And then he'd just fucking announce what he was going to do and calmly do it and then narrate my responses afterward. "Teasing seems to increase the reactions of the subject" like fuck off man

And he had a certain knowledge of medical shit because he likes looking into it, so he was listing the official scientific names for certain parts of the body, and I don't know why that made it worse, but it did

I was blushing so hard man it was insane. Normally I don't actually get super flustered during sessions because my brain is so focused on how much it tickles to be embarrassed by it, but my heart was racing and I spent the whole time lowkey regretting that we didn't include a blindfold because how dare I have to look him in the eyes during that

Anyways, it's possible we'll return to that particular scenario at some point

it makes me so sad that oso san isn’t as popular as many other anime out there i mean— come on its so unhinged like its so funny— its also my favorite anime of all time 😕

yes i know its a bit popular in its native japan but in other parts of the world— its quite niche and its hard to see people talk about it 🥺

and yes the humor is crude but still— i wish more people knew about this hidden gem-

hell it even has a really funny english dub (its as funny as the original japanese version) that gives off major ghost stories energy (tho it only covers the first two seasons and idk if the third season or the upcoming 4th season will get dubbed at all)

this is an anime i highly recommend checking out if ya’ll are into gag humor— or just comedy/slice of life in general— though quick warning as i said before there are a lot of dirty jokes so please watch with caution

Finished watching Kaos, it was a really fun and creative (and queer, as it should be) take on greek myths. I really like that they didn't stick to simply retelling the myths, but instead they made them into new stories and weaved them all into a larger narrative. I would have loved to watch a second season if there ever was one.

Now, I wouldn't be saying anything new if I said fuck Netflix for cancelling such a good show, but I will say FUCK NETFLIX, because I wouldn't have even heard about this show if I didn't scroll down to the comments on a video complaining about their business model. Kaos came out two months ago, and by the time I heard about it, it's already been cancelled.

So yeah. Fuck Netflix.

on a somewhat related note, I think "He Was Some Kind of a Man: Masculinities in the B Western" by Roderick McGillis should be required reading for every cowboy enthusiast. The book is primarily concerned with 1940s B-westerns, but I think the insights apply to other westerns as well.

Like, uh, there's an entire chapter dedicated to analyzing guns as fetish objects. McGillis breaks down how guns are symbols of manhood, control, desire, repression, etc... it's phenomenal genre study.

Anyways-- lately, I've thinking a lot about the gun fetish chapter and the inherent homoeroticism of gunslinger rivalries. so... mantimer fanart!

hi yes i am once again incredibly emotional about the genuine best mha fic out there, Why Are We Here Again? by cloud_nine_and_three_quarters.

it has the literal best interpretation of the heroes vs villains society and the impact that has on the vulnerable. it's also full of 1-a shenanigans where they go feral. but its also about hope and its abt overcoming all that society throws at the kids, and making a better world for everyone despite everything. i love it so much i have reread it genuinely over a dozen times and every single time i get hit with emotions when i finish it because it just never misses a single beat. it's so tightly knit and masterfully written there are almost no loose ends.

I know its 4 am and no ones gonna see this but man I'm having a great night. Getting that off my chest the other night really helped me i think, and everyone's kind responses really made me feel really loved, validated, and secure. As time goes on I learn more and more how to care for myself mentally and I feel like I'm getting better with doing that in online spaces lately too. Figuring out how to curate my online space and how to be more calm and measured with my emotions & how/when I speak to people here has helped me so much, and having awesome supportive friends really did too. To the people on here and in Sutopia, that always leave me nice comments and asks and kind messages, I can't thank you enough. Especially considering where my mental health has been lately. You guys are simply amazing and help revive my love of simblr and this game. Every bit of love I see here wipes away the more vile & toxic words like they're nothing. It makes me wanna post more and create more cc to share with you guys and hopefully make you happy too. I can't promise I won't have bad days still of course but it really just warms my heart.
