Rules: put your music library on shuffle, then list the first five songs that come up in a poll to let people vote for their favourite!
Omg, thank you sm @octarineblues for tagging me, I'm always happy to be allowed to talk about music, ha.
Alright, let's see what we'll get!
and about the tags: @abignopefromme, @lunalunaris, feel free to join the game if you want, as well as anyone who stumbles upon this post by chance.
-----------
Oh god, these are so random actually! But I'd say that I'm pretty happy with them, even though randomizing "Master of the house" out of all Les mis songs and aaaaaall the versions of them is... well... I don't even like this song that much.
I am however happy that "Tonight I Feel Like Kafka" found its way onto the list as it is one of my favourite songs ever!
Aannnnddd we also have a competitor from Poland - Lordofon!!

how it feels to chew five stickmen.                           stimulate your senses
#avm#read this if you dare#this doesnt even come CLOSE to explaining everything goin on inside my head#but i guess i can note some stuff#firstly blue is such a little hater because he REALLY isnt cool with people who have hurt his friends#its like they get all older brother about it so thats why they still hate mango's guts#two a lot of the color gang consider red as a younger brother/just a sibling#and three the romantic relationships; purple might've sorta developed a crush on green but he doesnt know that#so he thinks of them as a friend and they dont wanna mess things up so to the friendzone they go#next endie and red have a thing for each other but endie is so dense about it and they dont see each other enough to go anywhere#so they stay friends for now but the others all know endie has a massive crush on red#and lastly vic has given mango the tittle of hot guy i wont shut up about except he doesnt know them so its a bit weird and parasocial#you know the drill#and all of these. arent fully canon in my mind it depends#im not one to genuinely believe in ships in canon unless stated otherwise by the media#maybe purple is the exception cus i see him doing that thing where someone your age shows you a pixel of kindness and you're head over heels#animation vs Minecraft#i actually reccomend doing this even if its not understandable too#its fun to think about#OH and green has a complicated relationship with mango because he isnt sure he's good for purple yet he has to prove himself#but he wont tell him that#on the other hand mango respects him as purple's friend#im not tagging all of these#avm ships#i guess

ooo abt earthbound !! x) i really wanna play it but im not sure where. do u know if i should i get a snes emulator? r there alternatives?? :P
Personally I've been playing it on my switch through the online membership expansion packs SNES +NES downloads!! Irc you can download it on a 3ds via CFW (wich is what I plan on doing for Mother 3, but I also wanna learn more about the official fan translation and if it's better to play that version elsewhere) so far mother 3(the third eb installation) still hasn't received localization outside of Japan as far as my knowledge, wich is a shame because so many people want it. I think you can also get earthbound 1+2 on a wii u if you have it..

👁️👁️ do you still play tf2?
👁👁 a little! i don't play much of Live TF2 these days, only because my computer would rather explode than allow me to run it at a good enough framerate, though there's a few settings ive only experimented with recently on other source games.
i deeply love tf2 as what it is still more or less, it's mostly my laptop that's always been a problem is all :(
#ask#anon#and it wasnt always that way! i use to have a REALLY good laptop (granted it was a generic dell laptop of some kind)#but it burned out back in 2017 and i couldnt fix it <- knows nothing about fixing laptops and shouldnt have attempted it himself#i miss that laptop dearly you have no idea.......#i could run so much stuff on that badboy.....#anyway because of my laptop (and internet) i dont play a lot of games as of late#last few games ive played are Runescape. Crash Team Racing. and a sourcemod name of Pre Fortress 2.#ive been playing that last one on and off because i have a lot of fun playing a somewhat beta recreation of TF2#but i have to warn you that if you want to play it. turn off voice chat and text chat. theres only usually one populated server#and most of the people ive had to play with there fucking suck nuts and bolts#if it weren't for that id reccomend it more or less.#i get a lot of enjoyment out of the gameplay changes they make. from the grenades. the armour system. and some changes to weapons#if you play PF2 on players muted and with sprays disabled? id say its a fun experience#all classes are a little more mobile due to all having grenades. heavy less so but yeah#you can definitely tell how much grenades distupts the core of TF2s gameplay. but i like the option of having both games#theres no loadouts in PF2 though. youre restricted to the beta loadouts of each class.#and its not necessarily a ''Pure Beta Recreation'' since they have engineer hauling and upgradable buildings#but i dont mind personally. the grenades are a lot of fun to experiment with#dispensers also deal damage when exploding. and ive used that a lot on 2fort while guarding intel#sometimes an enemy rounds a corner and doesnt see it. and im notified on my HUD and i instantly blow them into gibs#fucked up a medic and heavy's uber push because they werent expecting it#exploded the dispenser in front of the heavy so the heavy lost 80% of his health. shot him with one blast and dead#then chased down the medic before he could even really process what happened to be able to uber#its really fun to experiment with dumb shit and see what you can get away with#just the playerbase sucks really. keep VC and text off and sprays disabled and you might have a fun time#youre also a lot tankier due to the armour system so thats kinda neat in a way#anyway thank you for the ask anon :)#id like to play TF2 more if it werent because my laptop

i kinda love how casual the queerness in the murderbot diaries is. yeah theres only like one or two couples that ARENT confirmed to be poly. yeah rami is this new gender we just made up. explain? what are you a cop? yeah murderbot is aroace and uses it/its pronouns but far more importantly it is deeply depressed. like so much of the queer stuff in mbd is just!! not a big deal!!! and i kinda love that vibe!!!! like i think the most queer scene in a series where every character is queer is probably just like. that bit where mb has something adjacent to gender euphoria after buying its own clothes. and its only like 2 paragraphs. idk i like it I LIKE IT!!

I saw the reblog string about EGS and.
What is EGS and would you reccomend it?
El Goonish Shive is a webcomic that started back when webcomics were allowed to be fun little personal projects and not movie-quality art pieces made by already-successful professional artists. It's a fun lighthearted story of a bunch of teenagers having wacky magical adventures and solving mysteries. Like a lot of webcomics from its day, there's a lot of silly humour and genderbending shenanigans, and like a lot of webcomics from its day, it becomes significantly more complex and better made as the artist learns his craft.
The reason I'm pointing all of this out is because it's a really fun little time and I do recommend it, but I need to warn you that it starts like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
because this is now teenagers learning their craft on the internet in 2002 wrote webcomics. I'm mentioning this because to younger readers who weren't there, I know this can be off-putting.
That out of the way, it's a fun adventure with a lot of magical transformation, young queer teens finding themselves and gaining the courage to be who they are, and alien/interdimensional politics. Watching the artist grow both politically and as an artist as he grows up is great. So if that's your bag, you'll have a lot of fun with egs. If it's not your bag, you won't.
The early years, being drawn by a teenager with internet access, also have a fair bit of not-very-disguised fetish material, so also be warned about that. (This was also the norm in this era of webcomic.)

Helluva Boss x Insomniac! Reader. Headcanons
With: Asmodeus, Fizzarolli, Stolas and Loona
Asmodeus
Tumblr media
Asmodeus runs a nightclub type establishment. (Or atleast i think thats what Ozzies is). So he's used to being up late.
He does take note of you, always seeming to be awake, no matter the time.
Doesn't really do much, because as long as nothing really seems to be wrong he won't want to bother you about it.
Is kinda sad he doesn't get to sleep with you as much tho (In the cuddly kind not the sexual kind).
One day decides to ask you about it, mainly from curiosity.
When you tell him that you're an insomniac he kinda gets surprised.
But after thinking about it he does kinda think he should have realized earlier.
Will try to stay up with you on the nights where he doesn't have to do much the next day (Which is rarely).
Fizzarolli
Tumblr media
Fizz has alot of energy some times, and on thoose days he does have difficulty sleeping.
Usually just rubs one out or has some ''fun time'' with you, or just alone.
He does however notice that on the same nights he can't sleep, neither can you.
When you do tell him that you're an insomniac (if he didn't already put 2 and 2 together). He'll likely ask something along the lines of, ''So whats keepin' ya up babes?''
Will cuddle with you if you'd prefer to do that in order to try and fall asleep.
Might suggest some medication for falling asleep. Or try and get drunk as hell with you.
Sometimes will wrap his arms around you if he feels like you've been getting too little sleep.
Loona
Tumblr media
She has a habit of falling asleep at I.M.P when having nothing else to do, or sometimes when she just feels like it.
Is probably the quickest to notice your lack of sleeping.
She will likely ask you about it because its keeping her up at night.
When you tell her about you either really struggeling with getting sleep or just not being able to sleep at all, she gets uhhhh, a bit confused.
Like how can you NOT fall asleep at that boring office, or in a comfortable bed?
Will rarely pick you up so she can lay with you while she sleeps, and hopefully have you fall asleep as well.
She once tried to play some music and stuff to try and see if that helped.
She to awoke to some shitty song and her phone reccomending more of said shitty songs.
Just kinda accepts that you don't fall asleep nowadays.
Not like its gonna prevent her from sleeping either.
Stolas
Tumblr media
Stolas has a giant comfy bed, so why he finds you awake at 3 am in the kitchen just doing whatever, is something thats on his mind.
Will ask you about it being concerned that you might be having nightmares or something keeping you awake.
If you do tell him about your insomnia, he will be a bit relieved that you aren't awakening from nightmares.
Allthough he might be wondering if something is keeping you up unless you clarify that to him.
Will try to use spells to see if that helps you, if you want to try it out.
if not then cuddles will do.
He LOVES cuddles.
If you cant sleep then can you atleast cuddle untill he falls asleep? He would like it if you did.
Stolas will try anything and everything to help you sleep, if you wanna go to sleep that is.
If not then he'll be content once he realizes that you'll always be there, if he has a nightmare or just wants a lil kiss.
(Sorry for if you guys wanted a different character but im not trying to spend eternity writing for every character i can think of rn. Also sorry if they arent too accurate, i will accept any criticism and try to improve).
Requests are open. So ask if you want

So: You have depression.
I'm 27 now. The last time I had a major depressive episode was when I was 16. I still have depressive episodes every now and then, but the worst tend to be a month, and most I can generally get through them in about a week. It took me a while to kind of figure out how to handle depression as a recurring thing, and so I thought I'd make a little welp-I-got-diagnosed-now-what guide.
So, first part of the guide: When I first got depressed, I thought that depression was the terrible, sad hopeless feeling that I had. It isn't. That terrible sad hopeless feeling is a symptom of prolonged depression. By the time I get to that point, I'm pretty well cooked and it takes a lot longer to bounce back. Avoiding getting to that point is a vital part of living with depression.
So what does depression feel like?
I am going to hammer this point home a lot of times while writing this: Depression is an anesthetic. It is not felt as a presence, but as an absence. The first absence, for me at least, is when life stops being fun. Every movie feels boring, I can't get more than a few pages into any book, and everything just seems... bland.
This is the best point to catch it at. I have found that consumptive patterns of entertainment do not do anything to help depression. Some people have told me that producing art at this time really helps them, but personally, I can't imagine trying. Instead, I just do tasks that I know inspire physical satisfaction. Which sounds like jerking off (I don't actually reccomend that route) but really means things like: Going for a walk in the sunshine. Working out. Cleaning the house in a fairly exhaustive way. Scrub the baseboards, wash the sink, clear the fridge, etc.
I recognize that doing those is really, really hard while depressed because depression causes physical weakness and exhaustion. The best I can do is, unfortunately, encourage vigillance. If you suspect you're getting into a funk, start on this before you get really deep into the mire. People that get into the mire can get out, but it's not self-help read-a-book type shit, it takes therapy and medication and patience and it is so much easier and cheaper and faster to just avoid letting it get that bad then crawling out once it's sunk its teeth into you.
I have found that for things that work almost by exposure alone, spending time in the sun and talking to people are borderline magical, with the caveat that talking to people about being depressed tends to make things worse instead of better. Talking about anything that cuts through the anesthetic of depression is ideal, or if it's sunk in deep enough that you're having trouble finding anything, talking to someone else about what they're passionate about. Ideally, you'd find someone passionate about a thing you know you're passionate about but are struggling to enjoy right then, and then you'd just let your mirror neurons run amok. Bonus Points
So, you're already depressed. Like, pretty fucking depressed, and you fucked up, and you let it slide. What then?
This is my I-Fucked-Up-And-Got-Big-Sad, Salvage-My-Weekend, depression routine. You'll need to make one for yourself at some point, and yours will work better for you, but this is mine and I think it'll work okay-ish for you. Until you get your own, at least.
I have to get up before 10 am. Staying in bed later than that gives the depression such a huge head start on my day that I just basically can't catch up. If I can't just brute force get myself out of bed, I will throw my blankets and sit cold on my sheets until that gives me the motivation I need. If I cannot work up the guts to throw my blankets, I will actually roll off the bed, flop gracelessly onto the floor, and then stare wistfully up until I can will myself to stand. It helps that every bedroom I've had either had freezing cold tile, or itchy coarse carpet. If you have a comfy floor, maybe buy a very scratchy rug? I cannot emphasize how important this step is. It's like, half of the whole thing.
After getting up, immediately go outside and sit in the sunshine. This provides free executive function, and getting it ASAP will make everything go much smoother.
Talk to someone while outside. If you have a roommate, they work great. Face to face conversations tend to be the best, but phone calls with loved ones are like at least 80% as effective. Calls to family members tend to be better than in face conversations with acquaintances or people you're mostly ambivalent about. Don't do chat messages. Worse than nothing.
This should have scrounged up enough free energy that you can clean something. I always start by trying to clear a part of my counter off. If that's all I got, that's all I got, and I still feel good about it. If that inspires me to do more, I'll run with it until a whole room is up to snuff. I don't do more than one room while I'm this crispy: The goal is not really to clean the house, but to work through a series of tasks that require some initial level of executive function but provide a larger amount back once completed. Life has a lot of these deals that are like, give me $10 and I'll give you $12, give me $12 and I'll give you $20, on and on, and the hard part is really just getting the $10. Some people wake up with $10. Most days, you will wake up with $10. But not when you're like this. You're gonna have to earn it. I'm sorry.
I am going to reiterate: This is what I do when I feel a funk coming on. My life and my schedule are not always this regimented. Living with depression doesn't mean never sleeping until 10, or having a weekend where you don't talk to someone, or take a break from cleaning. Living with depression just means never, ever, leaning into the depression when you feel it coming on. Even when it starts out feeling cozy. Even when you want to just snuggle into it and sleep and sleep and sleep. The first day or two will feel luxurious, and the next week will feel terrible, and the longer you wait the harder it will be to get out. You are always going to have to worry about that. Again, I'm really, truly sorry.
Bonus Bonus Points
I am not a psychologist, but I do have a theory about why depression exists. Remember how I said it's anesthetizing? I think that's what it's there for - getting rid of emotional pain when it isn't being helpful. People often get depressed after a major injury. Boredom is normally nature's way of punishing you for just curling up and doing nothing, but depression can be the emergency override on boredom. It makes sense for you to sit still and do nothing while your body is healing, so maybe nature temporarily removes all your motivation with depression and then just lets you be a limp noodle until you're healthy again. Maybe?
Back to the emotional level, though, depression might also be a way to muffle pains that would otherwise be so intense that people might not remain in control of the faculties. The pain of losing a parent is notorious for driving people so mad with pain that they ruin their lives, but depression is there to at least try and keep us sedated until the nadir has passed.
It is helpful to know what the purpose of depression is, because you will eventually get it from an "intended" cause, and reflexively fighting it then probably isn't good for you. And at the very least, knowing why this stupid thing exists makes the world feel like less of a cruel place.
There are a lot of interesting studies on the physical effects of depression - things like muscle weakness, increased pain tolerance, muscle relaxation, etc. that I won't go into, but it does so many things at once that it almost doesn't feel like a fuck up, but a feature that we just kind of lost the plot on. Not gonna deep dive on it, but it is something that probably shouldn't be confined to just a mental disorder.

I don't really get the people who think reading the comics is such a radical idea. Don't they want to learn more about them? aren't they curious what makes them tick? what insane adventures they went on? what fears they have? what makes them laugh and smile? I'm from europe so I haven't seen any of the DC shows I see mentioned every once in a while (which means I really don't get the whole Clark hates clones thing... but that's a different thing) and it's only been this year that I have enough disposable income to splurge on comics, aka I haven't read that many just yet.
But I do think the ones I have read enhance the stories I'm trying to tell, which to me is a good reason to read them ;p but besides that, they are fun! they are just really fun to read
I’m glad you’re having fun reading comics man! It’s a shame that folks don’t read them as much but you know, I can understand it. I both asked some folks in the Haunting Heroes discord server and have some of my own points to make about this.
First of all I do still believe that you should consume some form of DC media if you’re in the fandom. It’s fun and there are comics, books, movies, tv shows, and every other form of medium known to man that you can take a peek at! Idk I’m just a bit DC enjoyer and think that looking at canon media to expand on your knowledge and help create ideas you wouldn’t have had if you hadn’t looked at said piece of media.
Now onto why reading comic books is hard:
Some folks simply prefer the fandom and not the official DC content. Whether they prefer fanon, find fics more accessible, or like the people in the fandom, they’d rather just stick to the fandom.
They simply don’t know where to start. Getting into comics can be INCREDIBLY overwhelming ( DC has done their best to fix this and has messed up more than once. My go to is to reccomend folks just start reading New 52 comic runs as it’s really good for new readers to jump into the comics with any hero that might intrigue them). Big comic events span multiple comic story runs and not a cohesive line of comics, some omnibuses for stories are out of print, the 80+ years of comics are daunting as hell, and everyone has their own opinion on the best versions of a character/where to start/what to read.
Money. Comics are an expensive hobby to have. They may cost $1-$5 each on average but that price adds up over time. I have a comic collection of roughly 1,300 comics. I’d estimate its value very roughly around the $7,800 range. It’s probably far more than that though and I know damn well reselling it I won’t get half of that value back. I’m very fortunate to be a college student with disposable income and for this hobby to be the only thing I ever really spend money on besides rent and food. Some people either can’t afford them or don’t want to buy a comic they don’t know if it’s good or not.
Varying quality. Comics are a very mixed bag thing where they can be incredibly written or some of the worst pieces of media you’ve ever read. With this being the case, it can be really hard to find a comic character or writer you like if that’s your first experience. It takes a while to learn about different writers and find out who your favorite writers are. What’s harder is some writers can make absolute masterpieces with one character and the next comic run they cover it can be absolute garbage. Not only that, everyone has opinions on what is a good comic run or not. It’s impossible to find a repeatedly stated and easily accessible list on the good comics to read.
Pretentious “Canon is God” fans. Experiencing “um actually this isn’t good because this isn’t how the canon character would act” responses from people can really fucking suck and diminish their want to experience anything that’s official DC writing. I’ve seen more than one person go into this primarily fanon focused space and insult people saying their writing isn’t canonical and therefore it isn’t valid. It’s Uber Pretentious, demeaning, and actively harms peoples interests in checking out canon content.
Timelines. I already kind of said it but DC’s timelines are a mess. hell, even New 52 has some fucked up timelines making all of Batman’s previous timelines canon but happen only within a seven year period. That’s WAY too short for how much history is packed in there. The amount of crisises that happen and fully change the lore and timelines of characters is bonkers, the comic runs that bounce between different comic runs are really confusing, and the fact that there isn’t a True Starting Point for reading makes it so hard to grasp anything that’s happening. It’s one of comics biggest issues and no matter what DC has done they have yet to find a convenient solution.
Sensitive Content. Comics from DC are littered with either intentional, badly aged, or ignorantly written plot points and writing choices that will turn away readers. DC has its fair share of sexism, misogyny, abelism, racism, abuse, sexual harassment, sexual assaults, or topics casually addressed that can be very triggering for some people. Especially since a large amount of that sort of content is handled incredibly poorly. One particular writer, Alan Moore, writes sexual assault scenes with absolutely zero tact or the delicateness that a topic such as that should be held in. It’s almost solely used as a “let’s make the bad guy do the most fucked up thing they could do” throwaway plot point. Comics of the sort dissuade a lot of readers because of both the heavy content within comics and how that content can be incredibly poorly handled. This is partially why some folks would prefer to read fics. Comics are a unknown mixed grab bag when it comes to content like this and things exactly like this is known to make PTSD symptoms worse while fics have tags and can warn you before you consume the content within.
Time. A lot of folks have busy lives and just don’t have the time to read them.
The ways they intake media. Some folks might have a better time watching a long commentary video that explains a comic or their brain can’t process the comic medium very well. I can read and retain comic knowledge but even I am unique in this aspect, my memory is frightening levels of bad and is proven by science to be absolute shit. I have to reread comics at least once a month to retain the basic bare bones plot. Just because one person can easily digest what’s going on in a comic doesn’t mean everyone can.
Comics are such a big part of my life. I love them so much and they’ve gotten me through so many things. My own experience with comics isn’t the same for others and my thoughts on reading comics differs with other people. A lot of people have equally as many reasons for why they don’t read comics as you and I have for reading them.
