yeah the story is true, tho that source i find quite iffy bc i know hate crimes by white men wouldn't start with the headline "white men beat lesbian" for example, it would just say "gang of men" instead bc race isn't considered note-worthy if its a white person

i hope they receive justice. theres some absolutely deranged men out there who don't know how to act normally and get violent when theyre barely provoked

also the fact that in no part of any of the articles was these men's religion mentioned, yet ppl in the comments in ovarit made it about muslims and how dangerous muslims r... this is why i keep saying that ppl just use muslim as a way to disguise their racism. even tho clearly, on ovarit, theres no need to disguise any of it and u can openly talk about how wrong it is to support refugees escaping their countries

OSPC was a coproduction between Ardleigh Films and Associated British Pathé #(they of the famous news reels‚ and themselves a subsidiary of Associated British Picture Corporation). a year or two later and this #would probably have been made in house by ABC themselves‚ but the franchise was only a year old at this point and still finding its feet #the concept is simple but promising: each week‚ a member of the Overseas Press Club of America (a real and still extant organisation) tells #a tale from their careers‚ an unusual instance or shocking event that makes for good tv. these tales are true! says the narrator in the #show's opening moments‚ and these ppl exist! frankly that's something i take with a large grain of salt; whilst some stories certainly have #direct factual origins (there's an episode about a catholic priest going undercover with a gang of street toughs which ends with footage of #the actual figure that inspired the ep) but others are highly questionable (the first‚ about a Norwegian resistance fighter who has plastic #surgery and takes the place of a relatively high ranking nazi officer; i feel like that's something that would be better known‚ yknow??)#this ep is about a nazi plot to destabilise the French franc just prior to ww2; quite believable and certainly the nazis did dabble in #producing counterfeit money‚ tho the examples i found online all relate to pound sterling or latterly the us dollar�� not the franc)#our journalist of the week is played by Lee Patterson‚ a minor film star in british b movies at this point‚ with swooningly handsome Anton #Diffring (who had fled nazi persecution himself) as the villain. Alfie's part is pretty small‚ he's just the french cop keeping every one #in sight and letting events play out (cue some wonderful Alfie cheshire cat grins). Patterson (and maybe Diffring) got to fly out to actual #real Paris to film some location work and establishing shots (a benefit of making a series about the OSPC was that they arranged flights #for cast and crew). poor Alf didn't get a holiday tho; his scenes are conspicuously studio based‚ even when he's meant to be on the banks #of the Seine...#so yes‚ a fun little series‚ even if (so far) the wide scope of potential stories does seem to favour ww2 stuff. good luck finding a copy #tho; it took me months of trawling to find a reasonably priced 2nd hand copy (Amazon currently have a copy for £79.99 which.. for 2 discs #is kind of insane). a victim of the price gouging which seems to have affected some of the lesser known network titles since their #dissolution. sad times for the fan of painfully obscure old tv.. if I ever learn how to make things be on a computer‚ tho‚ I'll happily #share

argh there was a tumblr post about how tv shows are being cut short and i agreed a lot with it. but their long movie take was so abysmal i couldn't get myself to reblog it. id add in the notes how i feel differently but id rather not be subjected yet again to someone thinking their opinion is so extremely righteous they need to mock me in front of their followers for absolutely no fucking reason.

but anyways, there have been long ass movies since people started making movies. this idea of the 3 hour movie (which is not at all what i would even classify as a long movie) is not new! its not invented by capitalism. just because you personally cannot sit through it does not mean its not good. also don't equate film to prose? films are not "short stories" thats a prose term and you are making absolutely no sense when you say that. same with the idea that television shows are suppose to be novels? i just... what exactly do people think novels are, like what does that word actually means?

its just weird to put your own personal preference for movie length in a post about how capitalism is ruining television and film. thats a pretty piss poor way to analyze art or even talk about the effects of capitalism. especially considering that the majority of studios used to want very short run times, and still heavily prefer them to this day. avengers end game was "long" because producers wanted a novelty. the irishman is "long" because scorsese normally makes long movies as thats the pace he feels is necessary to tell the story he wants to tell.

#this is coming from a film major and writing minor #i just need people to put down their personal preferences when talking about late stage capitalism and its effect on film as a whole #like please just go look up what is playing in theaters right now and see how many 3 hour movies are actually playing #and then look at the run times for other films released this year and tell me how many “long” movies have had critical success #and i know genre theory is tired and no real filmmaker cares #i do want to point out that overall tho the genre and what people expect out of the movie greatly effects its run time #horror and comedy films tend to be shorter because their formula requires a quicker pace #while historical dramas tend to be longer because they rely on the audience ruminating on how a historical event will play out #this isn't the case for every movie that would fit into a “genre” but nontheless its what audience expect and sometime look for #sorry to be an annoying film bro on main

Anyway I started watching young sheldon a couple weeks ago because it was the first thing I saw when I opened hbo and you know what it's pretty good. All the characters are actually really engaging and fun and I'm interested in what they god going on. Even characters I thought I'd hate ended up being weirdly endearing.

I have to wait for the next season on hbo so I wanted to see if big bang theory was as bad as they all say since hey it's spin off is actuallypretty OK and maaaan it's kind of insufferable and I haven't seen a sitcoms like this in ages I forgot how absolutely annoying laugh tracks were. If you need a laugh track to tell the audience they should be feeling an emotion maybe the show just isn't that deep.

#the whole georgie plot with mandy is... a choice and idk how to feel about it #because most everyone seems more concerned about them having a baby out of wedlock instead of the age gap #he lied to her about the fact he was a minor but still #the show does portray well how that sort of information soreads like wildfire in a small town and how their small church shuts them out #which ive seen first hand happen to some church goers when i was a kid #the shows a little more real than big bang theory and doesnt inundate you with as many haha its funny because theyre geeks jokes #also i dont really want to physically fight anyone yet howard and leonard can meet me in the dennys parking lot tho
