"oh wow! what a nice community of shared interest! i sure hope i can form good, solid friendships with my mutuals/other people and interact regularly, and form a true friendship that will last even when we begin to enter different fandoms. oh, joyous ! ☺️"
<- doesnt interact with anyone out of some sort of fear, the most silent mutual on earth, waits for people to talk first (npc behavior), takes 500 years to respond to a single ask, kind of afraid to share my own ideas, has some of the most stunted/stilted/stiff conversation skills on the planet, doesnt want to intrude on anyone/make someone feel obligated to talk to me because oh my god thats horrible, and when someone DOES actually talk to me in messages on their own will i take like 2000 years to respond to a single message out of fear or general exhaustion

pohatus very important observations on who is available for body heat sharing via snuggling, cuddling et al
Lewa: yes, serial snuggler
Gali: yes, appreaciates it
Onua: yes, great hugs
Tahu: yes but you have to goad him into it, es. "will you man up and cuddle w me". the warmth is worth the annoyance
Kopaka: the flesh would be willing but the soul is so complicated about it. lay down back to back with him and pretend to sleep to make him slowly turn around and snuggle. WILL wake up early to destroy the evidence. the chill is worth the annoyance
Turaga Metru: only yield to 2-second-long cuddles if exhausted. if you pile all six on one another they will automatically snuggle together though
Toa Hagah: only with each other and still very professionally
Turaga Dume: no (the warmth is NOT worth it)
Takanuva: yes, serial snuggler no. 2
Jaller: yes but you have to sort of casually brute force him into it. will fall asleep five seconds into snuggle
Hahli: yes but a bit shy
Hewkii: yes, loves a hearty cuddle
Kongu: no (very formal)
Nuparu: no (very awkward)
Matoro: the soul appreciates the thought but the flesh needs space. if you tell him youre available for snuggles he will keep it in mind and come to you when hes in need. very pleasant chill
Hafu: yes, especially if youre warm
Tamaru: yes, curls up nicely on your chest
Taipu: yes, splays himself like a corpse
Macku: yes but prefers Hewkii. fair
Kapura: yes. hes a perfectly still hot water bottle. delightful.
Kopeke: no (leave him be)
Krahka: yes, surprisingly
Pewku: yes and its good for your mental health
Jaller's crab: no (rocket launcher)

Absolutely the funniest thing about my current corner of tumblr is that pretty much everyone I've recently followed for Apollo-Appreciating Purposes are either genuinely Hellenist or just rather very into Rick Riordan's Trials of Apollo series which is wild because I know a net zero about both of those things.
#I've never been interested in Riordan's work and the Percy Jackson books I did read as a young lad didn't change my mind on that topic#Growing up I preferred a very one or the other method for my greek adaptational content#which essentially means either you're a play or an adaptation of a legit story or myth with recogniseable figures and plotpoints#or you're an original story with mythical elements but the myths and the adaptations and interpretations of those myths is secondary#Percy Jackson did both and it was very disorienting for me because the books were well grounded enough that when I came into contact#with some element I didn't recognise or couldn't remember I myself would get confused and go “Is that true? like really?? :0c”#Then I ran a library book club and Percy Jackson books were p much all the kids wanted to read#but they rejected all of my supplementary greek myth exercises and got a lot of stuff mixed around#because percy jackson does a rather good job of making a convincing argument that it knows its stuff and people will quicker cite that#than do readings of the much more difficult older texts and translations of text#It's not Percy Jackson's fault it's just a bad experience that stuck with me and by extension leaked over into Trials of Apollo when that#was released#Trials of Apollo was crazy because I generally make it my business to consume any and all greek myth interpretational media that bothers#to include Apollo (there is a shockingly low amount of things that do that)#however a LOT of novels especially never let Apollo retain the dignity of a god in their portrayals of him#and have him resemble a teenager more than anything even remotely close to an adult#I had just gotten finished reading a novel adaptation of the story of Coronis and Apollo with this same issue#so when I opened the first volume of ToA and saw that Apollo simply genuinely WAS a teenager#Frankly I just closed the book and put it back on the bookstore shelf and very calmly walked away LMFAO#I have nothing to say about Hellenists and neo hellenists y'all seem like wonderful people and I hope#you have a lovely time with your e-offerings and worship#unless you are my single personal friend with Apollo as your patron#then I wish you 1000 woes and 10000 divine brain blasts#toa#pjo#ginger rambles

(in regards to this post)
i think you're right on the money. off the bat, i'd count budapest as metropole - it's a large city, culturally reknowned, part of the austro-hungarian empire - however, from the viewpoint of the novel i'm not so sure. it seems like budapest (and really perhaps moreso klausenburg/cluj-napoca) are depicted as sort of....last outposts of civilisation, before things get Too 'Wild'. a sort of liminal place, if you will. which is obviously crap and we all know it, but bram stoker was playing off preexisting xenophobia, and to the western mind at the time, this may all have felt quite real.
but yes! despite this, stoker is curiously inconsistent in how he depicts the east and west. the first thing that strikes me is one of the very first entries of jonathan's journal:
Some of them were just like the peasants at home or those I saw coming through France and Germany, with short jackets and round hats and home-made trousers; but others were very picturesque.
it's interesting how he compares the rural working class of england ('peasants') and other western european countries with that of transylvania. despite the kinda gawking travelogue he writes here, there's an acknowledgement that this kind of rustic existence is a commonality across east and west. (only difference is how he notes the transylvanians have better drip. which is fair.) i think there's a very real want, by the english, to appear 'different' from those on the continent, particularly in eastern europe - the reality is, however, that this superiority is largely contrived, and jonathan himself notes the lack of difference between the rural poor at home and in transylvania.
then we have the largely slavic crew of the demeter, ill-armed against the Thing from the wilderness they're unknowingly carrying. in their depiction in the book and how their story is recieved by the english at whitby, they're just another example of sincere human civilisation at the mercy of dracula's inhumanity.
there's a strong divide between how the local transylvanians are depicted - as rustic, but kindly, and accomodating - perhaps not the metropole itself, but the last vestiges of it - in comparison to the roma characters, representative of 'wilderness', whose individuality is glossed over for the sake of a united front of nondescript hostile lackeys described as 'godless' and happy to serve the local undead warlord. this entirely goes against actual roma belief, which i believe was pointed out by roma readers in the 2022 run.
i honestly do think that while east versus west is a understandably oft examined angle, there's far more nuance to it than that, and i feel the metropole versus wilderness model leaves more room for those nuances. a footnote: it's also interesting to note that jonathan comes from exeter, itself a cultural centre yet still provincial, far from the vast metropole of london. it sits in devon, a very rural county full of its own obscure folklore and traditions, and (somewhat cruelly) stereotyped as backward and provincial to this very day. in this story of empire vs uncharted wilderness, it feels natural that he'd be from london, like every other english protagonist, but he's not. which is a curious choice.

My dream gave me a mission and that's to find a manwha or manga with a muscular woman character. For some reason... Ever since I started playing Slay the Princess, my dreams became a MESS, it's like I'm dimension hopping all over the place, one moment I'm in a certain scenario and the next I'm in a different one. And it feels like I am living in an alternate reality again.
This time, the one scenario I can clearly remember is me being in school, and my teacher was handing out books. Then we got to talking bout our one classmate that's still absent cuz he got hospitalized for forcing himself to dance something he didn't like (cuz it was needed for a school project).
And then, a guy from the class next door came over to me and started asking me about that muscular woman character I was drawing. Which is, by the way, something that happened in one of the dream scenarios I had YESTERDAY. So that's crazy how it's kiiinda like a continuation of that. There even was a flashback moment for it too where dream me tried to remember what the guy was talking about.
She was flustered and was like: "What? I uhh... I don't know! I forgot her name! Why are you asking about that now it's been awhile since I last read the webcomic ahahahahaha! I'll uhh... I'll tell you her name tomorrow! I'll go check!"
And then the guy left and a classmate of mine went to ask bout it and she was like: "What was that about???" So then I went to sit close to her and started explaining while holding back laughter: "Actually... I wasn't drawing woman during then... I was drawing a guy but then a teacher was passing by so I was like Oh Shit! And just put a pair of circles on the character's chest!"
We both ended up laughing and she was holding my hand during then and so I woke up with a mission and the phantom feeling as if someone was indeed, holding my hands.
