Let me just say that your writing is absolutely immaculate and it should be praised 24/7. You're amazing!!! The way you've managed to write the characters to the point where I'm like "damn this could be canon" and it makes everything so much more easier to picture too.

I honestly feel so sorry for her (the reader) especially when she achieved something so great, in record time, and was at an all time high only for her to be hit by a wave of reality when she realised she was all alone and no one was there to see her do it. It was very realistic, I'm sure many of us have experienced that feeling before, of doing something we finally deem as amazing only to have no one there to celebrate such an achievement and it really had me hurting for her 😭.

Now let's talk about how she did not want her father to see her injury, not because she didn't want to worry him but because she didn't want him to get angry at her which is so telling of how jake has been treating her 😢 honestly her bleeding out in front of him is the cruel punch in the face that Jake 🖕🏻🤠🖕🏻 deserves. The fact that she thought he was mad when he told her to be quiet but really it would've been to just save her energy so she could stay awake and that being the last thing she heard???? yeah im crying from the pain!

I absolutely love her relationship with her mum, it's so heartwarming to think about but also so harsh on Neytiri, not only was her child dying out in her arms but she missed out on a rite of passage the whole family should've been there for. Considering we know Neytiri is very traditional that must hurt really bad to have missed out on such a big ceremony. (AND I JUST READ YOUR RECENT POST HER SPREADING THE BLOOD LIKE THE PAINT IS SO MORBID I LOVE IT)

Now the relationships between the siblings....honestly i have mixed feelings but it's like good mixed feelings ✌🏽😭 neteyam is a sweetheart and it makes so much sense that they understand one another, being the oldest. The way he panicked when he couldn't find his sister 😔 there's so much pressure on him too and it just feels good knowing they have each other. I'm honestly really interested in the relationship between the siblings, especially lo'ak and the reader. Because they are literally the same, other than the fact that lo'ak knows when to go quiet 😶‍🌫️ you'd think they'd bond over that but instead he was just taking the piss out of her and excited for whatever punishment was heading her way. And she did get punished to the point where she's dying. Idk I'm just so interested in the sibling dynamics, I think you did mention a few times that she usually cuts in whenever her siblings are getting scolded at (probably lo'ak lmao) which is so sweet to think about. How she doesn't want her siblings going through what she has to. The difference in treatment especially for her, compared to Kiri and Tuk, I'd be seething 🥊🤡 because that is so shady. Even if she had a small amount of resentment towards them I honestly couldn't fault her because you can't help it when you see that difference.

Honestly I love this family that you've built. And I'm so interested in seeing how/if this conflict will resolve. Please don't let it be resolved within a paragraph 😧 the daddy issues are too strong to be resolved with something simple.

this is a rlly nice frame i’ve paused on actually, you can really tell the movie budget is working lmao

the lighting is fucking gorgeous, and i can tell they got to be more creative with the character rigging. for example, the way barnacles is standing rn in combination with the rendering makes him look very realistic with his relaxed posture and pose. very well done.

Andy opened the door to Ashlyns house, carrying her signature cherry pie with EJ behind her, still chuckling.

"Sorry we're late, I was volunteering at the soup kitchen with the water polo guys," EJ explained, putting the drinks down on the table.

"And I was stuck waiting to be picked up," Andy explained with a smile, hugging Ashlyn.

Ashlyn had always known that there was something brewing between those two and they finally had a chance.

"Pics or it didn't happen," Carlos said with a laugh before he walked out of the room.

"I'm actually taking a break from social media so..." he explained, shrugging his shoulders.

"Well I can promise he was there, someone knocked on my door, begging for a spare shirt since he spilt food all over it after he fell over at said soup kitchen," Andy explained.

Ashlyn laughed, "Wow, new year, new you," she said, about to walk through before she saw EJ still standing in the kitchen.

"You wanna go in?" Andy asked, not understanding why he wasn't moving.

"Sorry, just taking it all in," he said with a sigh, "Not to be like your stereotypical second semester senior but, starting to realise that every day is like the last time I'm doing stuff with you guys,'

It was something that was beginning to hit him, that this time next year he would be at Duke away from all of his friends.

"Oh, EJ, that's actually really sweet," Andy said, placing a hand on his shoulder as she looked up at him.

Somehow, he had gotten a growth spurt during the Christmas break and she seemed to have shrunk. But one thing that hadn't changed were her feeling which actually grew stronger.

"Its weird, you two literally look so young to me now," he said, bothering her.

Andy laughed, hitting him in the arm. He smiled down at her, over Christmas break, he had realised that he did really like her, like like her, and wanted to cherish their time together.

"Yeah, I'm growing a beard," he said when he noticed Ashlyn staring at him weird.

"Oh, I thought that was dirt on your face," she said and her and Andy laughed at it.

"I might grow it out, depends what musical we're doing. Jean Valjean isn't Jean Valjean without the facial hair," he explained, running a hand over his face.

"Well I must admit, you'll be raking in some ladies if you keep it like that," Andy said before her and Ashlyn walked into the party.

He wanted to tell her that she was the only girl he really wanted but he couldn't do that to her, not when he was leaving school soon.

"Wait, have you seriously not heard what musical we're doing?" Gina asked, Andy turning to look at them.

"No, was it announced?" He asked, a panicked look on his face.

"Nobody say anything!" Carlos yelled out from the back. Andy knew it had to be HSM 2 though.

They all sat in the lounge, EJ and Andy on the sofa and the latter leaning against him as they took in the festivities.

Anyone who didn't know them would probably think think were a couple, his arm wrapped around her shoulder.

Suddenly, Ricky and Nini walked in, the former singing Bet On It at the top of his lungs as he danced through the lounge.

"Okay, does anybody not know we're doing High School Musical Two?" Carlos asked, everyone shaking their heads.

"We are?" EJ questioned, cheering as he finally realised the show that they were doing.

Later that night, they had all written a resolution and put it in a hat as part of a game.

Kourtney started to pick some out, "Resolution One, anyones guess. I resolve to remember everybody fondly when I go to Duke, especially my best friend who I am taking with me in a suitcase," she read out.

Andy chuckled, looking up at EJ. She knew it was him, she knew that Duke was his dream and he was going to miss everyone.

"EJ! You got into Duke? And would rather take Andy than me?" Ashlyn asked in shock.

"I mean, have I technically gotten 'into' Duke? Did my father and out grandfather before him also go to Duke?" He rhetorically asked.

"Okay, resolution number two," Kourtney read out, "This doesn't say anything except the words, my cows,"

Seb looked at everyone confused, "You guys, I thought we were writing down what we were thankful for," he said.

Kourtney picked another one out, "I resolve to follow my dreams however far away they take me," she said with a solemn face.

Everyone assumed it was Gina because of her mum always moving around but she shook her head, denying it.

"Its me, actually," Nini said, Ricky looking up at her confused, "Back to the game Kourt,"

Kourtney pulled another one out as the awkwardness filled the room, "All I want is for out generation to save the planet, I would also like absolute clarity about my love life," she read out.

Everyone talked about what it would be but Ashlyn didn't confirm that it was her.

Suddenly the doorbell rang and Big Red walked in with pizzas which EJ took, placing them on the table.

They all stood in the middle of the room, Andy sitting at the piano as she played 'fabulous', EJ leaning against the piano and admiring her.

Seb started to sing along and Andy changed the song, Gina, Ashlyn and Andy starting to sing 'music in me'.

Ricky started to play the guitar, Andy stopping playing the piano as the couple took over the song.

EJ ignored them, staring at Andy as she smiled with Ashlyn who was now sitting next to her.

It was undeniable that he was completely enamoured with her, unable to take his eyes off of her.

As they stopped singing, they all got up as it was announced that it was only ten seconds to midnight.

EJ grabbed Andy, pulling her up as they all cheered. As they stood in the corner of the room it seemed almost like they were going to kiss.

"I have an announcement!" Miss Jenn yelled out, running their moment.

They would have kissed, and Andy would have been over the moon. EJ wanted to try to kiss her again, but the moment has passed and he didn't want to push her.

So they all turned to look at Miss Jenn who stood in the doorway, approaching them.

"Contrary to rumour, we are not doing High School Musxial Two, instead, we are doing an American classic. Beauty and the Beast," she explained.

Andy and EJ smiled at each other, trying to get past the awkwardness of the fact that they nearly just kissed.

That would have been Andys first kiss, if you ignore the fact that her and Big Red kissed when they were like twelve accidentally – don't ask how that's possible.

"We are entering the Alan Menken award for High School Musical Theater, and we are going to win," she explained, everyone cheering.

"That means beating North High Miss Jenn, they have a thousand gallon Little Mermaid aquarium," Carlos explained.

"So, who is ready to show the world that they deserve that scholarship to NYU?" She asked, "I mean, who is ready to go from amateurs to statewide award winners?"

At that, everyone cheered, agreeing with her. "What team?" Ricky yelled out.

"Wildcats!" Everyone yelled back, cheering on the fact that they were going to be doing this.

"Ricky, I'm moving to Denver," Nini suddenly blurted out after everyone suggested she would make the best Belle.

Season 3 Episode 3 Thoughts

First of all… do I have any???? Its giving no thoughts, head empty

Before we get to Rina🥹, I’ll give some of my other thoughts

Ok I was sus about Ashlyn’s rose in the last episode and I made some thoughts about it in a post. I had a feeling this had something to do with her recognizing her “beauty from within” as the rose song said and I was right! I’m like really proud of this for some reason 😂

Kourtney and Carlos had me CACKLING. The whole scene about the thing in the woods being homophobic and Kourtney being like “I’m too hot for this”. Just comedy GOLD

I still feel like my “outside casting” is right where Jet and Ricky give off Kristoff and Sven energy and this episode proved it more. But it’s interesting because we also had the layers of Kristoff and Anna as Ricky and Gina with Ashlyn being Elsa going off to “find herself”. But Maddox and Jet were also showing a very Anna and Elsa dynamic. Just layers and layers and layers. I love looking for all the frozen hints/references in the character development SO MUCH

Also I know Ashlyn can care a lot but I really did not expect one comment about her rising sign to throw her into this whole self discovery/major upset storyline. It felt a ~little~ out of place, but I do like how they concluded it (that she was misplacing her anger)

I know Maddox got hurt but I did like seeing Jet come out of his shell and joke around. That was nice :)

EJ’s song… while different… was sang really well by him. But also like we got this and a million sorrys??? I would love ONE serious song by him because he’s got such a nice voice. This show does him and Carlos (Lumiere/Olaf comment) SO DIRTY 😂😂

Carlos and Kourtney’s tent is EVERYTHING to me. It was literally for one night and they put up decorations, hung lights, made it real cozy. Obsessed

And now… my faves 🥹🥹🥹 (there might be a lot of yelling over the next few bullet points you’ve been warned)

The scene where they are talking to Ashlyn?? They share a “look”. And part of it is sus because of what she said about learning something new and they’re new. The other part is sweet because it was a very, VERY understanding look. They saw their friend sad and shared a look that she needed to talk some more. No words were needed. They just UNDERSTOOD?? That’s soul mateism. I’m just gonna say it: It literally felt like two parents comforting their child and that was REALLY tender to me

Also gina said “love is an open door” and who TF said that SAME LINE?? Oh I don’t know?? Ricky?? Episode one in the intro?? Are you kidding me with the parallels??

And like the stark difference between Gina trying to get through and talk to EJ and he barely listened. He just got in his head and pushed her away (Hans) to Ricky and Gina talking and just GETTING each other. Their sweet conversations, Ricky saying how proud he was of her, them taking their time to hear Ashlyn out… the way they ALWAYS communicate? (Kristoff and Anna) I’m just saying the differences are palpable.

Also, sorry not sorry, no other ship got this much screen time together. Any of them. Literally. Adding up all of the seasons and screen time. Ricky and Nini MIGHT be up there but I think Rina is getting them beat. It is so obvious who our endgame is!!

And like I DEFINITELY want Rina dating scenes and storylines AND I LOVE the build up of them. It reminds me so much of the office (which Tim definitely got inspo from in this show) and how we saw the entire build up of Jim and Pam AND their life after they got together. We got everything. I would love to see that with Rina.

And like the way they flirted?? The stolen glances???? The AMOUNT OF TIMES THEY TOUCHED LIKE THE HELL THEY WERE ALL OVER EACH OTHER

There is a scene right before they go into the barn with Ashlyn where Gina asks if they should see who is singing and Ricky says, “I mean we’ve come this far right?” And then he looks at her and she returns the look and they just stare at each other and you CANNOT TELL ME that line wasn’t symbolic of their relationship. They’ve come this far?? They’re scared but they should keep going?? It’s not as scary when they reach the end??? YEAH. YUP. YEAH.

Also I need to dissect the song Ashlyn is singing and how it parallels rina. There was a LOT of conversation and scene cuts back to them in between the song. To me that is purposeful. That is the writers saying, “hey look! This song symbolizes Ashlyn AND this other couples journey we keep flashing back to”. I’m just a wee bit tired to dissect it now but I think there is a lot of connection between rina and the song

Also jealous EJ when Carlos says they went missing?? EJ would not literally leave this thing that has been stressing him out all night, that he kept blowing off literally EVERYTHING including his girlfriend for, if he didn’t feel threatened by them being gone. You see it in his face! He KNOWS they’re friends. The tough part is that Ricky has been trying to create a closer relationship with EJ after all of the Nini stuff and I worry that this is gonna send EJ. I’m a little scared there might be a fight or revenge of some sort 😳😬 it makes for excellent show writing though lol I’m HOOKED

lastly, every time I thought we wouldn’t get a rina scene, we got another. And another. And another. They just KEPT COMING. This was by far one of my favorite episodes. I will absolutely be screaming about this over the next week so don’t mind me

i'm starting to see that some anti rinas are just racists...and that is really vile considering the show aim to be a safe space for young audiences

You’re absolutely right, so much of the hate Gina gets is, at its core, fueled by racism.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a recent development. I’ve been blocking & reporting people (primarily on Twitter — but here, too) for posting incredibly derogatory & racist remarks about Gina (&, by extension, Sofia) since season 1 was airing.

From day one, they’ve called her a bitch or a homewrecker or said she wasn’t good enough for Ricky (gee, I wonder why that is) — then, when 2b rolled around, they switched up, pretended to like her because they no longer saw her as a threat to their white ship (despite the fact that rini was already crumbling for reasons completely unrelated to Gina).

Suddenly, she’s their favorite character…as long as she does exactly what they want her to do & acts exactly the way they want her to act. Meaning, as long as she keeps dating EJ (the character they really care about) and stays sweet & soft, they love her. It’s always conditional.

The second they realized her relationship with EJ wasn’t going to work out, they started to villianize her again. Now EJ’s “the perfect boyfriend” (I lose 3 years off my life every time I see a pw call him that — like, is this perfect boyfriend in the room with us right now?) despite the fact that he treated Gina like a chore all summer, never showed up for her & never put a single ounce of effort into making their relationship work — but, oh, no Gina’s the evil one for even daring to suggest that she deserves better ???

Basically, they want her to sacrifice her own personal needs & wants to stay in a relationship she isn’t happy in for the sake of a guy who barely even gives her the time of day. Okay, cool. So Gina should suffer so that EJ doesn’t have to face his own flaws & insecurities? Got it.

I swear, she expresses literally any normal human emotion and they jump to criticize her for it.

She seeks comfort in her friend (at the time) Ricky because she wants to be around someone who understands what it’s like to have an absentee mom. Oop, she’s trying to “steal” Ricky away from Nini! Oh, & somehow that and Gina dating Ricky now is some kind of betrayal towards Nini? (yes, that is a real take that I’ve actually read). First off, I can promise you Nini does not give a fuck what Ricky does. How many different ways does the show have to tell them that they are done. Over each other. Bones & better off because of it. Nini has not spoken to that man all summer and she’s somewhere in Southern California chilling on a beach with her moms, living her best life. & more importantly, why are they always acting like someone else's happiness is more important than Gina's? Why is she not deserving of the kind of love that she wants and that Ricky can & will give her? I'd love to see pws/rinis try to answer either of those for me. I'm all ears.

Oh, & apparently Gina can’t even kiss the boy she loves without being vilified for it because, the other day, I saw someone say that the Rina kiss “made [them] uncomfortable” & that Gina pulling Ricky in for that second kiss was “aggressive.” (It’s called being passionate, my god — but I think we all know exactly what they really meant by that.)

Ultimately, Gina is the most well-rounded, complex character, played by — hands down — the best actress on the show, if #they don't like her, if they have a problem with her being The Main Girl™ of hsmtmts (if we're being fr, she's always been the main girl to me, but this season made it official) then it's pretty obvious why.

here’s an analysis of the angst between redlynn and rini and the main portwell scene in episode 8 because i have so many thoughts so grab a drink and relax because this is going to be a long one:

both larry and julia’s acting in the scene in ash’s room was incredible. you know exactly how both characters are feeling because it’s so perfectly written on their faces. but larry really goes above and beyond with the way he’s portraying his emotions in the little things like his eyes tracking and the choppy turning and the flickering eye contact. its incredible. seriously.

DOMESTIC EJ AND GINA!! i loved this scene it was so sincere and heartfelt. i wish EJ wasnt so down on himself. yes he’s made some mistakes. a lot. but he’s a teenage boy and he’s come SO far. and matt portrays that so so so well in his acting. that sense of self consciousness under the bravado that EJ puts on. DONT GET ME STARTED ON SOFIA. her acting is BEYOND INCREDIBLE. she has a way of delivering her lines so genuinely and like she has experienced every single thing that her character has. it never feels like she’s acting. seeing these two characters who are so unsure of themselves but put up this mask and then finally get the chance to break down those walls a bit with each other and finding comfort is so beautiful and makes this scene that much more impressive. i don’t feel like im watching a TV show when i watch this scene. i feel like im watching two teenagers try to break down their walls and be vulnerable with each other because they understand each other in a lot of ways. Matt’s line delivery of “that’s what you think of me?” was so soft and so different from the way EJ normally talks that it really hits. this is a boy who has no idea who he is other than his mistakes and the expectations from other people so hearing gina say that to him is such a vulnerable moment for him and Matt killed it. also sofia’s line delivery after that where she back tracks when she says “you’d see what I... the rest of us see” is so genuine to gina’s character. gina hasn’t put down her walls quite yet but she’s trying to. her whole life she’s used to steeling herself and not getting too attached. and here she is allowing herself this moment of vulnerability with this boy who GETS her even if she corrected herself that moment is still there. and then her trying to deflect when EJ tries to compliment her is her realizing she let herself be vulnerable and tries to not let EJ break down those walls any more than he already has. but he does because she needs to hear these things as much as he does. their soft looks at the end of that scene is just so genuine and heart warming. they get each other and they support each other in ways a lot of the other characters can’t. sofia and matt’s acting compliment each other so well and you can really see that in this scene. this is such a moment of genuine vulnerability between these characters and both of them portray it so well to these characters personalities.

now that i’ve analyzed the shit out of that scene let’s move on to the rini scene. because good god. there’s a lot. i like at the beginning of this scene there’s a lot of reminiscing which obviously sets us up for the whole issue with their relationship at this point. they’re both stuck trying to hold onto something that’s in the past whether that’s their relationship as a whole, who they were or who they’re trying to be for one another. the career day metaphor do be a metaphor for nini’s progress as a person and their relationship. like nini said it’s always been nini and ricky and there hasn’t been much diverging from that their whole lives. the acting in this scene is perfect. josh’s resigned and almost stoned reaction is perfect for where ricky is right now. i think ricky knew this was coming but he’s obviously still hurt and is trying to stay strong for nini because it’s obvious this is devastating her. he does a good job capturing that with his line delivery and how it’s almost robotic like he’s steeling himself for the inevitable. olivia’s acting is so heartbreaking. her facial acting from when she says “ricky that’s not ok” to when the camera is back on her after ricky’s lines is devastating. like it took her time to process this new information. her delivery of “i don’t like running away” is so hard to watch because yes she’s upset but she knows exactly where this conversation is going and you can see that. you can also see the ramp up to her trying to break up with ricky. also josh’s like thick swallow he does while he’s trying to hold back tears?? sir?? ouch. also them both saying i don’t want to hold you back and nini saying can i just hold you now? BIG OUCH. and ricky trying desperately to comfort her. it’s always been nini and ricky and then they broke up the first time. it wasn’t mutual and ricky assumed it was a pause and not a break up so there wasn’t the magnitude of the loss on both sides. but now they’re at a place where they are both agreeing to let each other go and they’re having to make a mature decision to let the other grow before they can be nini and ricky again is so sad. they’re saying goodbye to a decade of who they were together. ricky taking off the necklace and nini crying harder is so DEVASTATING. also the “goodbye nini” is so significant. he’s letting her go to be the best version of herself because her identity is so wrapped up in who she is with ricky. he’s literally saying goodbye to nini so she can be nina (metaphorically and a bit literally) and just watching nini cry harder is big ouch. i won’t say too much about how this scene might be related to josh and olivia as people because it’s none of my business but i will say that this scene was acted so well by both of them and you can tell that it comes from their own personal experiences which makes this so much harder to watch. i could spend 100k words just analyzing the emotions and the different subtle acting choices that are in this that really makes this scene incredible but i’m not tryna make a novel here. additionally this really adds to my theory about ricky being the metaphorical beast. this is kind of at a turning point in BATB where the beast lets been go to save her father but in this case nini is trying to save herself and become a better version of nini. this is also the point in the movie when you can REALLY see belle’s love for beast so i’m interested in seeing what they decide to do next with rini.

howie’s singing?? PERFECT. he really had a glee moment but i will allow it because it’s just so damn good. EJ cover gina up so she can sleep more comfortably is so sweet and also shows how their relationship is progressing. they’re helping each other in little ways but sometimes those are the most important. red and ash starting to be on the same page?? amazing. a main part of relationships is trying to understand one another and learn what is important to each other. and i think ash getting the shirt is a good representation of her starting to understand red. good for EJ for telling his dad that he isn’t going to duke. GOOD FOR HIM. red and ricky’s hug BROKE ME. ricky isn’t outright sobbing when he walks into the room and he’s not saying anything but red knows. he knows just from ricky’s body language that he’s distraught (friendship goals). red’s hold on ricky is so tight and strong which is literally everything ricky needs right now. also the reoccurring theme of ricky hugging a pillow while he’s upset is something so special to me. red’s little pat on ricky’s leg says a lot about their friendship. no words have to be spoken for them to be there for each other and comfort each other. nini reminiscing and then looking at her insta? nini 2.0 anyone?? or should i say nina?

I’m so glad you liked my rec the last time, there have been alot of fics that have been written since you last asked so this list was super hard to limit. There are alot in this list alone (17 overall I think). I could always recommend more, Rina writers are just so talented. So here's a list of some of my favorites <3

Thee Rina bible. It’s everything we could ever want and need. Everything we want s2 to be and more. It’s an absolute masterpiece in every way. So many parts where I nearly died, the angst in the fight scene, the tension before they made up (the dress scene that reminded me so much of that amylaurie scene I lost my mind a little more), them being absolutely gone for each other!!! it’s just perfect in every way.

When Your With Me and Were Alone by orphan account

‘Ricky Bowen remembers everything.’ This is a one-shot three-part completed series.

My favorite series, it’s gotta be. It’s the first of its kind for rina fics. Lore does an incredible job of realistically writing rina’s characterization and reactions to Gina moving and what would happen after. A wonderfully talented writer, utilizing the power of her words while minimalist carries an effect.

You Know Me Better by This_is_Riri

‘Gina was moving. This would be her sixth move in seven years. She was used to it by now...only this time, it felt different. Post episode 7.’ This is an incomplete multichapter fic.

This one really gets you at your gut. Heart-wrenching for both characters but mainly gina. The vents that happen to both characters, it just makes sense that so much more than their vunerabilities bonds them together. Perfect execution of the mutual understanding trope.

I love a good five times plus one fic. This one is heartwarming, cheeky and cute. It gives a healthy balance of the inevitable anguish that comes with pining (and not just for the character but for frustrated readers that just wanna put these kids together already) but also the sweet innocence and fluff from first love (or first love adjacent).

A good look into what could've been for season one. Reflecting moments that felt like they could’ve easily been placed in the show and showed the subtly of the growth of rinas relationship. It wasn’t something that was thrown into our faces but came gradually and this fic facilitates that growth with key moments that add to that. A Great one-shot.

And the 7th Thing I Hate The Most That You Do (You Make Me Love You) by iknowpIaces

‘It doesn’t help that he really does look good in his costume. God, she hates him. She hates him. She hates him. Then, he has the nerve to smile at her. And Gina hates how that smile alone sends her over the moon.’ This is a completed one shot.

SOOOO GOOD. No one understands, I love the trope where one person has a crush on the other and it's unrequited (or it seems that way) but eventually it's apparent that they're also just as gone for that person as soon as they start moving on, or feeling fine with having their feelings not reciprocated. Then they're both just mutual pining messes, ugh I love it. This fic handles the trope with care and rina just comes together organically.

“Give me 4 weeks. I’ll help you out. Like… a crash course, if you will. 'How to be the perfect boyfriend for Nini Salazar-Roberts': A class taught by yours truly.” This is an incomplete multichapter fic.

A rom-com in the form of a fic. It’s so true to Ricky and Gina as characters and their dynamic. The writing is really good and gives so much in terms of plot. I really hope it updates soon because I love a good makeover/transformation fic, it gives she’s all that and geek charming in the best ways.

Katie does it again. Another classic that makes us fall for rina while they fall for each other under the stars. You can’t help but feel something for them right off the bat because theirs something about the cheekiness of the dynamic and so real. You can’t help but fall for them, a must read.

The Last Time by mytearsricochet

‘this is the one where gina meets ricky and nothing is against them. except for a few misunderstandings, forgotten birthdays, wrong people, and missed opportunities. because as much as love doesn’t care about time, this is the one where time cares about love. and with time, everything falls into place.’ This is a completed one shot.

SO UNBELIAVBLEY UNDERRATED. This fic is too excellent, it's everything rinas could want. it’s an incredibly well done long slowburn that makes you strap in for the ride. With all those teasing moments where they're mutually pining and they're just on the precipice of finding out their feelings for one another only to hold back and stay friends (until the end of course). The end makes you work for it, but so worth it when you get to it.

10 Days in “Love” by kindredspiritsxo

‘It was almost the end of high school and nobody had it figured out. Especially Ricky Bowen. His parents had recently divorced, he had no idea what he's doing for college, his longtime girlfriend dumped him the month before and now he's been replaced by one of the most popular guys in school.

To make matters worse, he leaves for Europe in two days for his senior trip. The same senior trip that said ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend were going on. So, Ricky did what any desperate teenage boy would do to try and get his girlfriend back: he devised a plan. A plan that included the help of Gina Porter and playing pretend for 10 days.’ This is an incomplete multichapter fic.

I love a good traveling fic. Sometimes all it takes to get a character to wake up about things going on in their lives or feelings for character b is a good change of scenery. This fic does a great job of utilizing the enviornment to facilitate rinas love story through one of my favorite tropes, the fake dating trope. There's some angst along the way because nothing can ever come easy but it's not without its reward. It gives me major spiderman far from home vibes just solely because of petermjs adorableness and how that energy kinda translates to rina in this fic more so in the beginning before they have this repertoire.

It hurts in the best way possible! that is the best way to describe this fic. Were taken on a journey where I personally wanted rina to just talk to each other in person but the magic was all in the voicemails and the power of their connection. There was a satisfying ending, I couldn't ask for more. If you haven’t read literally everything written by Katie go read it, it won't disappoint.

An amazing fic that hits every spot effortlessly, even the ones you didn’t know you had. Like Ricky being a lovesick puppy going to a drive-thru just to hear Gina’s voice for coffee, he doesn’t drink or like. All the while they’d been connected all along. I’m a sucker for any kind of soulmate implications or stories where people are unknowingly connected like that so this ones a real favorite for me. It’s sweet, lighthearted and funny and a great read.

Here's where I enter some shameless self-promo...I wrote this recently. It’s just some loosely connected one-shots I have of rina based on canon. I write about an alternate first meeting, what would've happened if Gina had to understudy Nini in a rehearsal and (for a future chapter) a babysitting au (for what happened when Gina actually told Ricky the truth, she was babysitting her neighbor's kid when she talked to him at the skatepark). There is something about Rina being written about from an outside perspective that is just so excellent. The story starting with Nini noting the obvious chemistry and their connection and being threatened by it, I don’t know it's just so pleasing to me. Another fic like that one of my favorites (one that I’m pretty sure I’ve suggested in my other rec list), pretend i don’t see it in your eyes by spobylol. Another absolutely excellent read that does not miss once. This story in contrast also writes from rina’s perspective as well which I also thought was well done.

The most iconic love confession I’ve read in a rina fic to date. it’s just so good, a certified rush every single time. The mutual pining hits spectacularly especially when you see just how soon it starts to hit Ricky that he’d made a mistake getting with Nini and him paying for that mistake. The writing only amplifies it. Also Ricky telling Gina he’s obsessed with her? yeah, I automatically added this fic to my list of faves.

More shameless self promo, sorry y’all but I’m super proud of this one. It’s a soulmate and fake dating au, combining two of my fave tropes into one to make this (surprisingly) long fic. It’s a whirlwind of emotions and a lot of moving parts in the story. An amazing fic, I need more people to know about it! I really like fics where the development between Ricky and Gina is gradual, which seems to be the case for a lot of fics but for this one in particular I like its execution. Obviously, at first, he’s with Nini so it’s like the dynamic is at a point of comparison from the start but we quickly learn that thanks to good ole mutual understanding and overall compatibility Ricky and Gina are just right for each other. A fun read that hits all the bases.

“You bought me something?” – Kai

A/N: This one may have got a bit more angsty and emotional than originally planned, but I promise its still very sweet and fluffy in the end!

You’d been friends with EXO for years, but recently you’d found your self growing closer and closer to Kai. It didn’t help that you’d started going to see them at the studios while they were rehearsing. You’d accidentally become a sort of unofficial photographer for them as they shared so many of your snaps on social, you were just hoping none of them would realise how many more pictures of Kai there were than any of the others.

Today you’d been running some errands, mainly for yourself, but some for the guys too. You knew they were having a pretty casual day, some of them just chilling at the dorms, but Kai would definitely be at the studio. You’d decided while you were out you would pick up Kai some lunch and drop it into him on your way back.

When you got there you softly pushed the door open, hoping to sneak in without disturbing him. Xiumin spotted you instantly and shouted out, interrupting Kai’s dance.

“KAI! YOUR GIRLFRIENDS HERE!”

“I’m not his girlfriend,” you reminded Min.

“Y/n!” Kai called stopping his routine.

“Hey,” you said, as he came over to hug you. “I was shopping, running some errands, and thought I’d stop by.”

“You brought me something?” he asked, hopefully, looking at the bag in your hand.

“I know what you’re like, you get too into the dances and forget to eat, so I brought you lunch.”

Suddenly Min let out a cough in a poor attempt to hide the word “girlfriend” as it fell from his lips again.

“Ignore him,” Kai told you taking the bag. “You’re the best. Always looking out for me.”

You smiled, “Well, no-one wants you to starve.”

“Sit with me,” he said, taking your hand and leading you to the seats in the corner of the room.

“Nini, I’ve got things to be doing at home,” you told him, even though you were following where he lead you.

He looked to you, pouting in a way you found irresistible. “Things that are so important they can’t wait for you to have lunch with your best friend?”

You felt a pang in your chest. It was partly because he just look so damn cute, partly because you didn’t want to just be best friends. Your face must have fallen too, as Kai stopped suddenly.

“What’s wrong? Do you need to leave urgently? I don’t want to pressure you into staying.”

You just couldn’t cope with how sweet and thoughtful he was sometimes.

“Umm, you know what, I should probably go,” you stuttered. “If you still want to hang out, maybe you can come see me after?” You decided that if he did turn up, you would confess. And that would give you the afternoon to decide what to say.

“Promise me you’re ok?” Worry was written all over Kai’s face as he spoke.

“Of course,” you faked a smile. “I just… I’ll see you later.”

You turned quickly and speed-walked out of the room.

What was wrong with you? You thought to yourself. You’ve hung out with Kai plenty before and been fine. Something about today just seemed to overwhelm you; the fact that he stopped his routine to hug you, the huge smile on his face when he saw you’d come to see him, the gentle way he took your hand, and the genuine concern he showed for you. The cherry on top though, was the fact that to him this was all for his ‘best friend’. You just couldn’t hang out with him anymore unless he knew how he made you feel.

When you got home, you got on with house work trying not to focus on your encounter. You’d barely been back for an hour when there was a knock at your door. You pulled it open to see a very dishevelled and upset looking Kai.

“I wasn’t expecting you yet,” you said stepping a side to let him in, but he didn’t move.

“What happened?” he asked, his usual energy missing as he looked at the floor.

“What do you-“ you started but he cut you off.

“Have I offended you? Are you upset with me?”

“No, of course not, I could never be upset with you.”

“I just wanted to eat my lunch with you, and you got upset and left and I’ve been trying to work out why, and what I did wrong.”

“You didn’t do anything,” you told him, your heart breaking at the distraught look on his face. “Come in, please.”

He finally crossed the threshold, and you closed the door behind him before taking his hand, the way he did to you earlier and lead him to the sofa.

“Nini, look at me,” you asked, still holding his hand. “It’s literally the opposite. You did everything right. You were completely lovely and sweet.”

“Then why?” he looked like a lost child as he finally made eye contact with you.

“Because…” you took a deep breath. “Because you are too lovely, and you made a comment about me being your best friend, and I don’t want to be just your best friend. I want to be yours, completely. I want you to treat me like that all the time, but only me. I want to turn up to surprise you, and not be mad at Min for announcing me as your girlfriend, because I want it to be true.”

You’d barely finished talking when Kai all but threw himself at you, embracing you tightly.

“You idiot,” he muttered into your shoulder. “You could have just told me. You’re my favourite person, and I thought I’d hurt you. I’ve been beating myself up since you left and it turns out, you just liked me back,” he continued with his face buried in the crook of your neck

“I didn’t know how, especially with other people present.”

“So? We could have kicked Min out.”

You laughed at that.

“I’m so sorry, baby,” you said, the pet name rolling naturally of your tongue. “Forgive me?”

“Only if you’re going to be my girlfriend now,” he told you, finally pulling away.

“Of course,” you smiled, cupping his face in your hands.

Kai smiled back, before passionately pressing his lips to yours. Your hands slipped to rest behind his neck as he placed one of his on the small of your back and the other between your shoulder blades, holding you as close as possible.

When he broke the kiss, he rested his forehead on yours. “From now on, we talk to each other when somethings bothering us,” he told you.

“Deal,” you smiled, before bringing your lips together again.
