Lithuanian language has quite tricky pronunciation. You'll never be able to speak it properly without listening.

For example, the simple word "gerai" is supposed to be pronounced the same way, right?("Ge" like in Gege Akutami, "rai" like in "rise" or "rye")

False! Actually, they pronounce it like "giarei" - "gia" like they scream "gyaaaa" in manga, "rei" like in "ray". Гярей in Cyrillic. There's a very high possibility of a Lithuanian word written with -e- as first vowel and with -ai ending being pronounced all the other way around.

Same with Neris -> the real pronunciation is Niaris. "Nia" like in "nya🐈‍⬛️🐾". Same with loooots of other words.

Lithuanians overall like such sounds as -gya-; -nya-; -ļa-. Latvians, however, usually write -ļ- when highlighting soft [L] sound - Lithuanians, on the other hand, believe that it's obvious where is soft L and where is hard L, they don't bother labeling Ļ at all. XD

Neither English nor Ukrainian have such a sound as -gya- which makes it quite difficult to learn new words (and that's why Ukrainians usually speak with Latvian accent when speaking Lithuanian, lol). Unless you have Belaruthian relatives. :D If you don't have Belaruthian relatives - then, good luck, sergeant🫡🫡🫡
