having some thoughts today about sexuality and for the first time in a long fucking time they are positive. had an experience last night and i won't go into detail, but afterwards i was thinking "that was for me and i don't want to and would not want to ever share that with anyone else". and now i'm having thoughts today about maybe my sexuality is for me and it's not about other people. it's about what i enjoy and what feels good to me and maybe i would invite someone else into that someday, but my sexuality would exist for me even if i never had a sexual partner in my whole life. i shouldn't worry about or struggle with or try to label myself for that potential partner or my family or my friends or random people online or strangers on the street. it's just about me and what i enjoy. what makes me feel good. and for some reason that's not something i ever really realized before. my sexuality isn't a nutrition label on a can of soup, it isn't some political opinion or experience, it isn't alienating to others, and it certainly isn't a moral stance. it is an internal experience for me to enjoy first and foremost and that has nothing to do with other people.
#like yeah i'm attracted to other people. but the way that makes me feel or act has nothing to do with them#i get off in certain ways because it feels good to me. not because other people thinks it's normal or weird or it's how they get off#i have certain kinks and i enjoy them because they make me feel good. not because other people think they are good or bad or whatever#it's my internal experience and i could share it with other people but i don't have to because i would enjoy it anyway by myself#its like. video games or transformers or books or hiking#i love all of these things by myself. i play video games and go hiking in the woods alone#and i love it!!!! i enjoy reading books by myself and watching tf on the couch alone#my enjoyment is not dependent on other people doing those things with me#but it can be fun to do it with others too! i like video chatting friends while playing video games together#or going on hikes with other people. it's fun!! i love talking about books and transformers with other people#but that's like a whole new second experience to what i do and feel by myself#not better or worse just different and it's a shared experience which makes it like it's whole own new thing#but the enjoyment started just with me first and then grew into something new with other people's involvement#IDK IF IM MAKING SENSE BUT IT FEELS BIG AND SPECIAL AND LIKE DISCOVERING SOMETHING NEW TO ME#like i'm on the horizon of some big unexplored land and it's exciting and strange and hopeful all at once#idk i just feel like my whole life i've been told sexuality is about other people and how they feel about you and how you relate to them#and it's for them. it's a gift it's sacred it's intimate and special and beautiful or it's broken and dirty and ugly and bad if done wrong#and like maybe absolutely none of that is true#maybe MY sexuality is just about ME and is just for ME and everyone else can get fucked

On Pejorative Use of Out-of-Character
Fanfic, like many hobbies, is ridiculous.
It is not any more ridiculous than people who watch birds or collect stamps or recreate Napoleonic War battles or play video games or any of the other myriad things one could do with one's free time. We all have our (essentially specious) reasons for doing our hobbies, but they all boil down to one thing: we find some measure of value or pleasure in its pursuit.
I bring this up because in every hobby, there are elitists and jerks and people who insist that there are right and wrong ways to do it. And in some cases, there are objectively good and bad ways to go about that hobby (bird watching, for example, if you do it badly has the possibility of harming the birds you're trying to observe), but most of the time, the pursuit of hobbies is generally harmless and there is no one true way to participate (the backyard birders are no more or less birders than those who haul a scope on long hikes - the format changes, but the activity is fundamentally the same).
I use birding as an example here because it's something I'm familiar with and it's generally considered to be a very Socially Acceptable hobby, but I could use similar examples for any hobby I listed or almost any other besides. Like many low stakes things, the lower the stakes, the bigger the opinions, and the larger the dramas. Fanfic is about the lowest stakes thing out there, so naturally the opinions are Very Large.
Earlier today I made reference to wanting recommendations for fics that feature out-of-character characters or wild AUs of the type that wouldn't normally be someone's cup of tea, but which they enjoyed anyway. This included some language that was perceived as thoughtless.
I try not to be unkind or thoughtless, but I'm human and (therefore) imperfect, and prone to introspection that borders on useless maundering, so of course I've been thinking about this all afternoon.
Reading between the lines of the anonymous user's comment, I realized that what they objected to wasn't insulting in and of itself, so much as there is a pervasive opinion/perception that portraying characters as out of character is undesirable. (And by extension, portraying characters as in character is desirable and good.)
There's a lot to unpack here, but what I want to address specifically is that fanfic, by its nature, is derivative and transformative. We are taking characters that someone else made up and then making up new stories with them. And yes, a lot of the reason that we do that is because we read or saw specific traits in those characters that we want to explore more - but someone choosing different things to explore with those characters doesn't make them bad; it makes them different. Using out-of-character as a pejorative doesn't serve anyone, except to create divides that don't need to exist.
When I've received comments that my characterization of Kaz feels very true to the books, I feel a warm glow of pride that I've done well, which I'm now trying to reframe, because I don't particularly like the idea that one way of writing fanfic is inherently better than any other. I'm very glad that someone found pleasure in the same things that I do; I'm glad that we have similar tastes and a nice bit of connection with one another because of it.
In examining why the (fair, valid) criticism of my fic recs and request made me rankle a bit and why I then felt it necessary to defend those that I had posted as being in character, I realize I'm promulgating an idea that some fanfic is inherently good and some of it is inherently bad. Which is, like the entire hobby, a little ridiculous.
Because in the end, writing fanfic means that we're all just nerds playing with dolls and because of the amazing/terrifying hellscape we live in, we have the opportunity to show our friends the stories we're making up with them.
My most recent fandom foray has introduced me to writers and fics that I wouldn't have ever thought I would read and giving fics a chance that I never would have before. And I love that.
I'm reframing my use out-of-character. When I say that, I mean "I want to read fics by people who got something different out of this than I did". I mean, "I want a different perspective than my own". And when I ask for fic recommendations, I'm asking for people to send me fics they read and thought, "This isn't usually my cup of tea, but damn if it didn't make me rethink some things about how I engage in fandom."

More hetalia highschool AU, 🌟magic team🌟 edition :)
Under the cut bc it is long ❤️
Vladimir is that one kid obsessed with Twilight but only for the vampires; it was his first ever exposure to vampires thanks to his dad thinking Twilight was an appropriate book for a 11 year old. Team Edward going strong for five years, he'd proudly declare like it actually mattered. He tries his best to dress goth at school even though his uniform gets in the way. Fake ear piercings(his parents won't let him pierce them yet), over the top makeup, he's dyed the top half of his shoes black because his parents were concerned about his obsession with black and wouldn't buy him the black tennies he wanted— "mom look, these are marked down for back to school! Can I pleeeease get them???" "....may I know why the black ones specifically?" "They match the ever nothingness of my soul." "Yep! The white ones it is then!" "Mooooooooooom!"— Vladimir has been dubbed the cringy vampire kid of course.
Lukas is into pretty much anything concerning cryptids and magical creatures because they can't be proven to be fake or real, which intrigues him. He carries a book about mushrooms at all times and info dumps on pretty much anyone about identifying poisonous mushrooms and which mushrooms are safe to eat. His backpack is covered in buttons and pins to show off his interests. He keeps an amethyst in the front pocket of his backpack, reason unknown other than to just randomly pull it out and let Mikkel look at it. He's that kid that always wears his hoodie no matter the season, he never takes it off. Under his hoodie is always a crude worded t-shirt that the school would not approve of, much less his parents. He's relatively quiet and because he's quiet he's considered a weird kid.
Arthur can't decide if punk is his style or if goth is. Either way, his way of self expression at school in addition to the uniform is horrible. Checkered black/red shoes his grandma got him with his older brother's hand me down worn out greying socks—"can I PLEASE just have my own clothes???" "we have perfectly good clothes for you in the garage! I can fix them up to fit you better and everything!" "but I want cool NEW clothes!" "those are cool clothes and as far as the other kids know, they're also new. Now get your transformer backpack and get to the car. I put a new patch on it last night so that should hold it for the rest of the year."— Old Pierce the veil shirt, with holes chewed into the collar from his older brother Dillan, peeking out from under his white polo. A black and red choker to match his black and red slowly tearing apart too big flannel on top of a black pull over. A deep blue beanie, the hoodie of his pull over almost constantly on top when outside the school. He dyes a part of his hair a different color every month. He spikes his hair using too much gel and is convinced he looks good. He talks too much about bands and always gets Vlad and Lukas going on and on about fictional creatures he does not FULLY believe in himself. He does, however, believe in magic and loves Harry Potter, more specifically the Weaselys, to bits.
Natalya is a sophomore, a year behind the boys, and she just kinda pushed her way into the friend group until they eventually accepted her into it. They were the only three she knew who liked occult related topics. She's on the baseball team because she wanted an excuse to hit things with another thing and NOT get detention because of it. She wears the khaki uniform skirt and takes full advantage over being able to wear any kind of tights underneath; skull pattern, plain black, blood splatter pattern, fire pattern. Anything that makes her feel like a badass. She's always talking about antiques and forging weapons, more specifically knives. She has a whole collection of fidget toys but her favorite is this pea pod keychain her father gave her. She's always talking about how she'd like to be a medical examiner and to just prove that she's serious, she'll bring up a picture of a human model and point out the difference between a self inflicted fatal wound and a homicide. She puts up a charade of being able to see and talk to ghosts to freak out Alfred, her extended friend first met through Tolys.
They collectively believe they're cool and that other people know this. They're genuinely blind to the obvious snickers sent their way, being called losers and nerds. They're really knowm for like really pathetic things like; Natalya is Ivan's, tallest and most intimidating member of the wrestling team, weird younger sister by a year. Lukas is just the weird quiet kid that reads by the courtyard garden during lunch. Vladimir is not only the vampire goth kid but the kid who's parents believe the teachers are giving his son low grades on purpose and will yell at them for it. And Arthur is just. He's another Kirkland, immediately assumed to be a massive trouble maker because of his now graduated brother Alistair and one grade above him brother Dillan. Everyone loved his eldest brother Darick and sometimes compare him to Darick.
Compared to what others THINK they do, such as witch craft for some odd reason, the four of them do pretty typical teen activities. Like hang out at the mall. Do their honework together. Play video games and D&D when they have the chance. The boys do have sleepovers still as they have since meeting each other in middle school, Nat not really being a fan of sleeping where she doesn't live but comfortable enough to go to their houses and just chill for the day. They have become friends because of their related interests but thats not what they're ALL ABOUT.
Fun facts/stories about these losers I thought about while bored as fuck:
• Lukas, in his freshman year, went on a nature hike field trip with his lit class after reading Into The Wild. And he brought his mushroom book of course. They walked around, looking at the sights, talked about the book. Lukas just stops at one point, falling behind the class. He picks up a mushroom, goes to the teacher and is like "You see this? Its not poisonous." And straight up fucking eats it without warning. The teacher called an ambulance even though Lukas kept telling him he was fine and that that mushroom was 100% okay to eat raw, but for sure better off cooked. Lukas calmly shows the paramedics his book and they're like "yeah that actually was safe to eat, we don't need the book to confirm that, but um. Please don't ever pick something off the ground and eat it again. Just. Please don't do that, son." .....he did it again before leaving to go back to school but this time he didn't tell anyone.
• In elementary school, Natalya brought in a model of the human brain she asked her dad to borrow. He had to say yes because she was his only child genuinely interested, not bored of, his medical profession and he found it very cute and honoring. So she's at show and tell, its her turn right, and she silently goes up to the front of the class and pulls out the model brain. Teacher tries to step in because, hey, these are 6 year olds—AND WHY DOES THIS 6 YEAR OLD HAVE A PLASTIC BRAIN??? But Nat just shooshes her. In surprised shock, the teacher is just quiet as Nat begins to explain parts of the brain and their function— which was all wrong actually. She knew the words and everything but she didn't get the locations right. She sounded confident and smart and she was telling this to a bunch of 6 year olds so they believed her of course. End of the school day, her dad is having a hilarious conference with his youngest's teacher about the brain incident.
• Vladimir loves reading. He's loved it since he began to learn how, even if his dyslexia gives him grief along the way. So since he loves to read he'll always get excited and read ahead in class or in the public library reading club. One summer, the reading club was reading The Giver and it was getting really good. Vlad was loving the story, so much so that Vlad began to read ahead in his own time when he really wasn't supposed to be, the club was reading it together out loud and discussing it. Now he's read enough and worked hard enough to figure out how to help himself focus better and understand each word and sentence without having to reread it all multiple times over or get stuck. But sometimes the meaning and context to what he's reading doesn't ALWAYS process with the words as he's too focused on reading the words right and it passes right over his head. So Vlad is reading ahead and he's getting to the part where The Giver has given Jonas the memory of the sled again. And Vlad just sits there after reading that paragraph. He rereads it. And rereads it again. And then he leaves his book on his bed, goes to the the hall closet and takes out the ironing board. He grabs a plastic container to use as an ill attempt of a helmet and he just. Rockets down the staircase and hits the wall. He screams and cries and his parents rush in from the livingroom. When asked what happened he just says "I wanted to understand the sled scene better! Now I do and I feel really bad for Jonas!" He just couldn't quite grasp WHY the sled accident hurt, never had a broken bone nor sled afterall, and needed to find out. And that's how Vlad got his first broken arm at the age of 12.
• When Alfred and Matthew moved in with Arthur's family, Arthur didn't like it. He was a moody young teen but he was also just tired of the full house. His cousins were loud and nosey. He had to share a room with his four older brothers already and now with Matthew while Kathleen and Alfred got a room to themselves. Arthur thought this was so unfair. So his solution was to run away. He was 13, he needed a place to have some peace and quiet for once. So he texts Francis and Lukas, the only two of his friends living in his neighnorhood. Francis is not on board with helping him run away at first but then Lukas brings literally all his camping gear for Arthur's use and then Francis is on board because he had the feeling Arthur was going to get himself killed somehow. So as the elder one of the group he accompanied Arthur and Lukas out to the short stretch of woods behind the last street of their neighborhood, intending to go to the big clearing before hitting the roads leading to the airport and whatever else buildings. They're out there setting everything up together and they're done by like 4 pm. They sit down and talk, munch on oreos and other snacks Arthur deemed as essential survival foods. Then Francis looks at his cell and remarks "wow its already 6! Ah, Lukas, we should get home. Afterall, neither of us ran away so we still have supper to eat. Come on Lukas, let's go before our parents come looking for us." They exchange goodbyes, Francis trying his best to hide his cocky smirk. So Lukas and Francis start walking off, Arthur crawls into the tent and eats half a cookie before frowning and feeling too alone. He didn't expect to feel alone because all he wanted was to BE ALONE. Before he knows it, he's running out of the tent yelling after his friends to stop and wait up. "Oh whats wrong, Arthur? I thought you wanted to run away." "I— I forgot I hadn't fed my rabbit is all! I'll run away tomorrow! I'm not... Feeling lonely if.. If that's what you think...." Arthur did not run away the next day. Buuuuuut the three plus Vlad made a tree house together in the Kirkland backyard that they still use today!

Advice for the Zodiac Signs During Tough Times
Aries: Move! Lethargy and stillness is the death of an Aries. Clean your house, start a new fitness challenge like couch to 5k, join a gym, walk a mall to window shop. Even just going out more to socialize - movement of your laughter and spirit and love. Aries thrive in physical expression, either alone or with others. The more confident of their presence in the world, the easier it is for them to face internal doubt. When they are in tune with their body, it is easier for their mind to be at ease. Productivity of the body will help to distract and brighten an Aries during a tough time.
Taurus: Comfort. Cook, paint or draw, online shop, buy yourself a new candle, hang out with old friends. Treat yourself to comforts - but not any material ones, ones that validate you. The gift you buy yourself can be something expensive that you didn’t think you ‘deserved’ before. But you do. You deserve the happiness it can give you. Eat something you haven’t in a while, maybe have dessert for dinner watching your favorite TV/YT show/person. Allow yourself permission to bend the rules a bit to make yourself happiest.
Gemini: Engage! A bored Gemini is a restless one and so for their mental health should always be striving or learning or engaging in something (within reason). Perhaps learn a new language or about its history, fall down a Wikipedia hole, and of course, talk to people. When ideas flow a Gemini is happy, so try and speak with new or old faces. If you’re in college maybe speak to a professor you never have before or that classmate you think is cool. At all ages, surround yourself with people who appreciate what you have to say.
Cancer: Care. Self-care and love are crucial for a Cancer’s happiness. Take a bubble bath, pet some puppies, read a book that has a happy ending and tolerable characters, visit family, scroll through pretty pictures on pinterest. It’s okay not to be burdened by the emotional weight of everyone all the time - it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or abandoned them. You allow to take time for yourself and just be obliviously happy. It especially helps if you are doing these things for or with people you love but it’s really not necessary.
Leo: Re-brand! When a Leo is down, they can become impulsive and want to completely change themselves. After all, a Leo’s happiness is largely based in being comfortable in their own skin (how else can they shine?). However, this doesn’t just mean dye your hair or get a tattoo - it could be as simple as deciding you have a new favorite shirt color and wearing that shirt color every day for two weeks. It’s also re-branding your mentality about yourself to best deal with your difficulties.
Virgo: Organize! Clean! A happy Virgo has never lived in a messy home. Physical spaces are included in organization but also organization of duties, priorities, relationships, and thoughts. Cleaning out, donating, deciding what is worthy or not will allow a Virgo sense of control and accomplishment. Even as simple as cleaning desk space will make it easier to do work. Start small, you have no pressure on you, so as to not feel anxious about whatever task you set in front of yourself.
Libra: Interact! The happiest I’ve ever made a Libra was texting them out of the blue to check up on them. You really do need socialization/interaction. This can be the typical form of hanging out with friends but even sending/responding to asks on Tumblr or playing in multi-player games online. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming or exhausting, but any kind of positive interaction for Libras really can help. And, honestly, it can even be interactions with your god (of any religion) or with your tarot cards; it doesn’t have to be typical.
Scorpio: Transform. A Scorpio that cannot express itself honestly is one that cannot feel truly happy. Perhaps some parts of your life/your self has become dead weight. If it is holding you back, perhaps it is time to let it go and transform into something else. There is a lot of energy in Scorpio, and they can actually find their comfort and control when they are changing and improving especially as they have the fixed sign resolve to carry it through. This transformation can be anything in their life, and they probably already know what they have to do.
Sagittarius: Explore! Sagittarius is associated with the sign of the bow/arrow/archer for a reason - it’s because when they are no flying free, they are full of tension. During a tough time, a Sagittarius should look to exploring something new to uplift their spirits once more - it can be more intellectual in that you explore new aspects of astrology/tarot/witchcraft or maybe learn some simple magic tricks or maybe watch some Khan Academy videos or it can be more physical, such as a spontaneous road trip, driving to a new park and taking a hike there or simply just walking while listening to a podcast.
Capricorn: Complete. It can be something so small as organizing one drawer of clothing or adding one more paragraph to the story you’re writing but what is important is that you complete something and feel achieved. Success and achievement are crucial to a Capricorn’s happiness, if you let yourself feel so!! When there’s something tangible before them - a youtube video they finished creating, a new rank on a video game - its harder for them to deny the fruits of their hard work. So focus on completing even just one task and be proud of yourself for it!
Aquarius: Isolate. Most Aquarians need time alone because they find even just being around others all the time exhausting. It’s not to the fault of others (they can be well loved!), Aquarius just need to recharge with peace and quiet in isolation. When they isolate (for a reasonable time) they can get lost in their own world and mind and reconnect with themselves. It is then they can be truly themselves and not have to worry about social duties. It is alone that they are able to get their creativity and ingenuity flowing again to express into the world when they are ready.
Pisces: Dream! Pisces are gifted with such a rich internal world and an ability to get lost in it. Set aside time to create and explore new and old worlds that exist in you. Read new books or fan fiction writings or doodle out the scenes you see in your head or play some DnD or other role-playing game; however you want to express yourself, but just give yourself permission to do these things. It’s fine if you’re not always being productive, you’re allowed to just take the time and nurture the internal wealth you have inside.

New Post has been published on Otaku Dome | The Latest News In Anime, Manga, Gaming, And More
New Post has been published on https://otakudome.com/reviews/marvels-spider-man-miles-morales-review/
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Review
The follow-up to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man arrives with a new lead in Harlem Spider-Man Miles Morales. Taking place a year and a half following the events of the first game, Miles is still struggling to come into his own as The Friendly Neighborhood Spider. Peter is trying to train him while protecting his own backyard in New York City. After dealing with a disastrous encounter with Rhino, Peter entrusts Miles as the sole Spider-Man of New York as he and MJ go out of country on business. Miles must now find his path as Spider-Man without his mentor and a little help from best friend Ganke Lee.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a 2020 action-adventure game, it is developed by Insomniac and published by Playstation Studios. It is available exclusively on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5.
Editor’s Note: This review contains near complete to complete spoilers for the story of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Our review of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man and its DLC can be viewed at these links 1, 2, 3.
Playstation’s Spider-Man returns with a new entry that bridges the first game and eventual Spider-Man 2 starring 2011’s Miles Morales.
Two years since the initial launch of universally acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man comes Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. As the name suggests the game picks up where the initial left us with Miles Morales having his own run in with a power giving spider bite. Though Miles and Peter have mostly similar spider based powers, Miles has his own original Spidey flair to help him stand out such as having the ability to create an electromagnetic field to get the jump on multiple enemies, his own unique tech and gear compared to Peter’s, and even the ability to turn invisible for a short period of time.
Miles is (mostly) on his own in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
THE GOOD: 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man was a surprise in such a multitude of ways. For one, it was a video game title taking on the form of a beloved fictional character, it was based on a comic book/superhero, and it was a licensed video game. Granted licensed gaming had made a bit of a quality comeback thanks to titles like the Batman: Arkham series, and even some Transformers titles released by Activision just to name a couple. But there was always room for worry in the back of fans’ minds that some kind of controversy was just around the corner of what looked like “a sure thing, and Square Enix dealing with their own troubles following the release of The Avengers this distant worry will always have an unfortunate place in licensed gaming. However Marvel’s Spider-Man ended up being a fantastic game thanks to the renown track record of developer Insomniac. Having tackled several genre from dozens of IP the studio has shown time and time again that they just know how to build good games. Though that’s the core issue with taking on something like a licensed game for the first time or anything for the first time; there’s always room for error. Thankfully, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not that at least as far as the story. character development, and most of the gameplay is concerned.
Miles Morales grows as a human, man, and hero in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales opens up with Peter Parker and Miles preparing to protect a prison cargo hosting those responsible for the final events of the original game. After struggling to defeat Rhino and Peter having been beaten Miles raises his courage to fight him lone unlocking a new power in the process aiding in Rhino’s defeat impressing Roxxon R&D Director Simon Krieger. Peter informs Miles that he and Mary Jane will be overseas away on business for several weeks leaving the safety of New York mostly on him. Lacking confidence Peter tells Miles to believe in himself and if he truly needs him he’s there. As Peter departs Miles contests with a new tech savvy gang known as The Underground which seems to be involved in a power struggle against Roxxon’s military grade forces. Roxxon is in the middle of releasing a brand new energy source known as Nuform, but the concoction is dangerous to humans causing them terminal illness. After an initial run in with The Underground, Miles returns home with whom best friend Ganke is currently residing as his parents go on vacation. Miles’ old childhood friend Phin makes a surprise visit to Harlem. Miles asks about her brother Rick who they both looked up to, but she unexpectedly dodges the question. During a rally for Miles’ mother Rio who’s campaigning for Mayor of Harlem The Underground attacks a Roxxon convoy carrying a literal truckload of Nuform on a bridge. During a fight with members of the gang that leads to a battle with The Underground’s head of command The Tinkerer, Miles accidentally learns that it’s Phin when his electric powers causes her armor to malfunction which was shielding her face. Phin retaliates as Miles’ electric powers go out of control sending him into the truck containing Nuform ensuing an enormous explosion that destroys a large portion of the bridge. Roxxon reinforcements arrive and they threaten Miles after he saves citizens from the bridge shocking bystanders. As they’re about to kill a cooperating Miles he accidentally unlocks a new ability that allows him momentary invisibility giving him an opening to escape.
Tweaked gameplay mechanics and it’s story idea give us a potential glimpse in what’s to come for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
While internally battling with what to do in regards to Phin and her connection to The Underground, Miles begins to reconnect with his recently estranged Uncle Aaron who had been emotionally abandoned by the family for unknown reasons. This inadvertently reveals his identity as the Harlem Spider-Man to Aaron and Miles through searching his late father Jefferson’s old police files discovers that Aaron is the Prowler a legendary super enhanced criminal. Revealing the reason behind the family abandoning him, after this discovery Miles has resolve to try to convince Phin to stop what she’s doing with The Underground having earlier learned of Krieger being responsible for the death of her brother Rick who worked with him on Nuform. The energy source making him and his team terminally ill killing the latter, though Rick died trying to protect Phin from an incident at Krieger’s lab. After successfully infiltrating The Underground as himself, Miles learns that Phin plans to blow up Roxxon HQ, but is unaware of the severity of the impact which will destroy New York and much of the surrounding area. Miles reveals his identity to Phin after a pursuit and she reluctantly works with him only for the two to be captured by Krieger. After their escape following a battle with a Roxon tech enhanced Rhino, Phin now consumed with rage sees Miles as her enemy like Krieger and Roxxon & continues forward with her plan threatening his life if he tries to stop her again. Having bonded from a prior Roxxon infiltration, Miles learns that Aaron has returned as the Prowler and is captured by him. The two fight after Aaron fails to convince him to stop worrying about New York and to only focus on himself. Miles beats him and continues his chase of Phin while evacuating the city with Ganke and his mom once he tells them both everything that happened. A war breaks out between The Underground & Roxxon in Harlem, but Miles and a reformed Prowler stops them. Miles finds Phin at the science museum that held their award winning project which she plans to use to aide the explosion plan as an emotional blow to Miles. The two fight as Miles tries to explain the issue surrounding her plan but she refuses to listen. As the explosion begins Phin finally realizes that Miles was right. but he’s injured from some of the impact. Phin helps him absorb the Nuform. but Miles can’t contain it for long which endangers Harlem from the blast release. Phin uses Underground tech to fly Miles into the sky so he can release the blast safely. but at the cost of her own life. Miles’ identity is revealed to the citizens of Harlem, but they shield him from being shown on TV as a news crew shows. He places his and Phin’s award on their favorite church as a tribute. Now brimming with confidence as a hero a returned Peter is proud of all that Miles has accomplished while he was away. Norman Osborn demands that his son Harry be “awoken” despite warnings from Curt Connors in an end credits scene.
Miles Morales has moments where he can be playable as a citizen of Harlem.
If you were one of the lucky few that managed to come into possession of a Playstation 5 and an even luckier few who as of yet have not experienced the 2018 Spider-Man entry, first I commend & envy you, second I highly suggest playing ‘Miles Morales’ after a playthrough of the remaster. The unique perspectives of both titles combined in a single sitting make the $70 price tag more than worth it (not that I’m all too thrilled about a price hike for games). And ya know the 4K, ray tracing, whatever I guess that too. Anyways, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is from a basics standpoint a lot like the original. You’ve got the Arkham like combat, the fantastic swinging, and the finishers. Just like in the last game there’s a skill tree which you use to upgrade Miles with skill points. These range from attack, tech, and support skills such as increased invisibility meters and finisher storage counts. Miles’s electric venom powers add solid combo chains for a higher score and opportunity to gain finishers for tougher enemies. Eventually you can unlock an explosive form of the attack which is great for dispersing large groups of enemies. You’ll use tech for support and to get the jump in enemies like before, but Miles has unique tech like electric bombs which can stick to electric panels and if you know how to use them they can act as great distractions that lead to a large deal of damage to several enemies.
The Tinkerer threatens all of New York in her quest to end Roxxon.
Side quests return with most of it being randomized events spread throughout the world map and some minimal story based events. The “defeat enemy base here” side quests return just skinned with The Underground and Roxxon. New to the game are the scavenger hunt and time capsule quests which have you finding mementos left behind by Miles’ late father Jefferson and his friend Phin. Also new are the audio tunes which Miles’ Uncle Aaron tasks him with finding to complete a track he and his father were working on together using the sounds of New York for the song. Some quests will unlock Miles unique skills or costumes in the game to dress the Harlem Spider-Man as you see fit.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales continues the growth of two young superheroes sharing the same title.
THE BAD: An unfortunate setback to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is that it often times feels a little too close to Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse story wise. It’s the curse of origin stories, odds are the origin has already been told and there isn’t much you can do to differentiate it from it’s core. There’s a handful of glitches present at least on the PS4 version. One I experienced in particular was during the mission where Miles had to restore power to his apartment complex. A bug prevented me from completing the mission and I was stuck there wondering what the hell was happening for over an hour. So far it’s the only major bug I’ve experienced, though others have reported more.
Like Peter before him Miles struggles with balancing his hero/citizen life in Harlem, New York.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a excellent appetizer to the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Keeping what made the original special all while giving itself a way to standout is always the way to go with sequels such as these and ‘Miles Morales’ more than delivers on that end. While shorter than the original game the quality isn’t effected by the bit sized entertainment. I played on the second hardest difficulty of the game Spectacular and was able to clock in about fifteen to twenty hours of play which is slightly more than similar title Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The sheer jump in a quality gaming experience from the spin-off even with it’s limited time left me craving for more of Insomniac’s Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Packernet Podcast: Keep the Hate Coming - We're Loving It
Transcript:
8s – 1m 8s
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, once again to the back of that podcast. I am your host and residence analyst that’s always Ryan slip check it out online packernet.com. Find me on Twitter Pack underscore that is so today. I’ve got quite a bit of things that I want to touch on some news and notes some rumors. Probably going to get a little bit Ranchi. There’s a couple different things to different people at you know, I was just talking yesterday about how you know, if I’m being honest I liked the days when the media was gushing over the Packers a lot more than I like today. I really did like that. It kind of it was it was somewhat undeserved kind of like what the Chiefs get with Mahomes and now Lamar, you know that the Golden Boy treatment that Aaron Rodgers somehow had for felt like basically his entire career up until what 2015 maybe even late cuz I think I think even as you started to decline the video
1m 8s – 1m 45s
Because you know, that’s just how they work. Nobody wants to be the first to say it and then as soon as somebody says it is like this just Avalanche. I don’t like them either. It’s just you know who can dislike him the most so, you know, that’s that’s how you get to be edgy you without actually being edgy because you didn’t want to say it for 5-10 years. Anyways, I don’t like this so much. However, I got to admit there’s something kind of nice and extra motivating about these games. You’ve already got the aspect if I really really really really really want to win and see this team in the Super Bowl is sort of like
1m 46s – 2m 46s
It hasn’t even sunk in that it’s a possibility and it’s not because I’m sure I believe thoroughly that we’re going to lose. It’s just it’s just like that that just doesn’t happen Packers don’t go to the Superbowl this certainly don’t win the Superbowl and it’s super rare and probably nod and I forget who it was and I apologize but somebody gave the visual in the Facebook group. Make sure you join the Facebook group that he could Envision Aaron Rodgers and Aries and Aries next to each other hosting the trophy and it was like one of those things that visual just made it very real and it’s like, oh my goodness this could really happen. I mean this could really actually happen but then you take the excitement of winning and the desire to win and add to it how much distain I’m developing for everybody because everybody dislikes the Packers and some of it is fine, right? You got the sports books and everything else. They’re saying the Packers have the lowest chance depending on where you look of winning a Super Bowl get it. You’ve got some stew.
2m 46s – 3m 46s
Mystic people just kind of laying out some facts, but for the most part you have very biased people that have never liked the Packers and love the fact that Aaron Rodgers is not the favorite anymore and take every opportunity. They can to remind everybody which largely is wrongly but because this is what the statistic Community now believes remind everybody that Aaron Rodgers is no longer the goat. He’s no longer even any good. He’s averaged this team is a fraud. They just can’t stop and every opportunity they get to say it they say it so that’s starting to make me angry to the point that I want them to be wrong almost as bad as I just want the Packers to win because the level of distain I have for them. Although I get it because that’s what being a fan of a different team is about. It’s still a little bit annoying. So I want to address some of that and again just some other little bit of this little bit of that. But anyways I said,
3m 46s – 4m 46s
Make sure you jump in the pack and a podcast Facebook group. That’s where the party’s at all day everyday we party and we talked about the Packers. That’s just what we do also apparently get into very serious discussions about needles in San Francisco, you know, some people tend to rant kind of like I tend to reims I can’t hate him for it. It’s it’s my life to also make sure you jump in the back of my podcast Facebook page. Thank you to all of you have sent messages. Obviously. You’ve not been getting hardly any responses. I have to go in and start working on all those responses and develop or develope responses to all the stuff you been saying to build the ultimate supercomputer. I don’t think that’s possible but it’s you know, I got all year figure this thing out. I don’t care. What else do I have to do? I pick one thing that I want to really work on this year on top of all the stuff that I’m doing and that’s one of the things I want to build. So leave me alone. What’s your New Year’s resolution push-ups get on my face. I’m building a supercomputer man Skynet Sun before the T-1000 was
4m 46s – 5m 46s
Schwarzenegger guy before the Schwarzenegger guy was the Packer. Chad Bock. You didn’t catch that and Terminator. Did you wait till Terminator 8, they’ll tell you how it all begins. If you would like to support the fact that podcast I would strongly encourage you to check out patreon.com pack underscore daddy. There is a link in the description somewhere in the link of links. You can support the show for as little as a dollar a month. It means a lot more to me than it does to you is in terms of you know, it’s more positive for me than its negative for you. I understand podcast for free, but I’m hoping that you like the value that I bring enough that you think it would be worth it to you to offer up at least a buck a month. Please consider it. I’ve had a very very good response up over $50. Which is awesome. As long as you don’t consider the fact that there are literally thousands of people that listen every day that it’s slightly less. Awesome. But still it’s good. It’s a good start and don’t forget there will be a giveaway ever.
5m 46s – 6m 29s
Single month, all you have to do is make a small donation. $1 is one entry 5 dollars is 5 entries etcetera etcetera. If you just want to win the thing straight out Super Bowl tickets are to do it. I think that’ll increase your odds substantially. So there you go something about otherwise a five-star iTunes review Stitcher review and make sure you are listening to the Packers iPod cat because the podcast broadcast on another podcast that has not called the Packers at podcast. If you don’t want to switch over that’s fine. I still get all the accounts for it. I just would like iTunes in the rest to realize that people actually do listen to my podcast. So if you wouldn’t mind subscribing to mine as well that be greatly appreciated, why don’t we take a break cuz I got a lot to talk about not a lot of time to talk about it.
6m 30s – 7m 30s

And once you’re feeling better, you don’t want to just feel better sitting on the couch. You especially don’t want to just feel better out shoveling your driveway making the pain come right on back. How about instead? We spend our February and March following our favorite baseball teams to Arizona for the Cactus League spring training. I can’t imagine a better way to spend February then out in 75 degree weather watching some baseball eating a couple hot dog hanging out with your significant other your body’s your kids and after the game getting some autographs and then buzzing over to one of the great craft breweries some great outdoor scenery and Adventures like hiking biking Jeep tours hot air balloon skydiving jet ski horseback riding and then after you’re completely famished go out and get some great Arizona cuisine cuisine as Gordon Ramsay kind of says, you know the British don’t speak too good scene. They try, you know,

Make sure you plan your spring training get away at visit arizona.com spring training. Alright so much to do so little time. What are we talkin about? How about the fact that Luke Kuechly just retired yesterday. Can you imagine being a Carolina Panthers fan? You had a good team then it all kind of went sideways. We know what that’s like, it happened last couple years, right? Suddenly things just aren’t good anymore. We were Super Bowl Contender and then we were trash quarterbacks banged up but we’re starting over now. We get this guy rule in and it’s like he’s going to take over and he’s going to transform everything and then you find out the LSU who just won the National Championship the passing game coordinator. The guy that’s worked with Joe burrow land in the rest of that LSU crew to help them to win. The national championship is going to join Rule and help us rule the NFC South took me a second there and it you just feeling good and you know it you’re probably going to get a new quarterback. Maybe you like it. Maybe you don’t but
9m 54s – 10m 54s
It’s just it’s a new era, right? Cuz it this is a good team. We just got some work to do. We got to fix up this defense a little bit. But may we got the best running back in football? We’re going to get an electrifying quarterback in here. Take a guy like Herbert would be great somebody that doesn’t really need to be benched. But as long as he has a good Supporting Cast which which the Panthers kind of do right, they’ve got wide receivers kind of for the first time that got a great running back decent enough offensive line, like you can plug him in and just make some stuff happen and it will just focus on the defense and just hammer away at it. We’re going to be good man. We got Kuechly hang a hammer in this thing ain’t turn it down in the day that you get the news. You got a new offensive coordinator. The guy that has been like the guy on your team. One of the better linebackers of all time decides that at 28 years old with two years left on his contract. He’s going to hang it up. That’s wild by the way. This is not insignificant news to the Green Bay Packers because the Green Bay Packers are playing the Carolina Panthers at home in 2020 the Panthers
10m 54s – 11m 54s
Who had a abysmally horrible defense this past year are now without Luke Kuechly now. Who knows what’s going to happen to you know, after Gronk left, obviously, there was a total speculation that he’s going to come back. Maybe this is just stay a moment, you know as far as lacking Clarity, maybe it’s it’s injury-related and he’s he’s just really worried who knows but things change Stihl 28. He still healthy maybe is not the same Luke Kuechly was last year. He said in his goodbye message. He’s just not that same guy and he doesn’t want to play if you can’t play up to that level anymore, but maybe I mean Jared Veldheer retired now, he’s back helping us win a Superbowl but as it stands the Packers now are planning to go up against the Carolina Panthers at home without Luke Kuechly. I think the sooner we get that team the bed because the new coach and all that stuff that’s going to take some time to kind of develop that team build that locker room build up the new scheme in the new system. And I you you get those teams early enough before they really
11m 54s – 12m 54s
Get into the groove if they ever do but you catch them before they get into a Groove and that’s that’s going to work to our benefit. I also wanted to comment on something in just a little bit old news, but it’s interesting apparently and this is reported via Tony Pauline. I actually was I found this while I was doing some draft homework trying to get caught up on all the latest news and rumors and things for the draft and came across some news that apparently prior to the Vikings beat in the New Orleans Saints and then understand Tony Pauline is legit. He called stefanski to the Browns like in the same article prior to in Minnesota and the Saints game. She called it but decided the Browns number one candidate was stefanski. Anyways, he had said based on an inside source. The Minnesota Vikings are kind of tired of of Zimmer now, I’m shocked by this because the outside perspective by everybody not in Minnesota is that Zimmer’s a phenomenal code? He’s done a great job obviously is Zimmer defense is a very tough defense in the defense is what makes that team great, obviously.
12m 54s – 13m 54s
Cousins did a good job and all this other stuff, but the Zimmer defense is what makes the Minnesota Vikings in Minnesota Vikings, but in Pauline’s words Zimmer has worn out his welcome in Minnesota. Here’s the interesting thing. The report was if they lose to the New Orleans Saints Zimmer’s done and stefanski will get hired as the head coach so bad because I believe the source I do think that the ownership wants to move on from Zimmer. However, they did beat New Orleans. I can’t imagine one game like that is really going to make that big of a difference. Although I mean, of course it’s a big win but to be that good of a team to get in the playoffs and to still say if you lose to a basically the number one team arguably in the NFL then you’re no good. And it’s that’s kind of a ridiculous statement. It sounds to me like something you’d say when you kind of just want him to go but the other kind of unfortunate thing is for the Vikings. Anyway, you also lost your intended replace.
13m 54s – 14m 54s
So now what are you do you you not only beat the Saints but the guy that you were going to replace dimmer with supposedly is gone. So you don’t have a replacement. No, forget that forget. The fact that I think this whole thing is a ridiculous conversation. I don’t know what’s going on inside the organization. Maybe Zimmer has become an insufferable jerk. He feels like he runs things, you know, whatever. I don’t know. I’m just telling you what the standpoint of ownership is and in for the Vikings fans listening. I want to clarify something. I understand that. The owner has said we 100% are bringing back our GM and our head coach. We have no intention of moving up. Please understand the eagle said the same thing about two of their coaches and fired them both the same day within 24 hours. I think it was like the quarterback coach something else. I don’t know but there was a question. Are you bringing it back? You should absolutely they’re coming back within 24 hours. They were both fired. So when you get put on the spot, you know, you don’t waver on a Zimmer coming back of course is come.
14m 54s – 15m 47s
Oh, yes, definitely. You tell the media. Yes, and then you go do your job or you try to throw out some it mean that there’s really just two ways to handle it. You don’t care what the media thinks and you just say yes because it’s better for your your franchise because you don’t want to waiver on it and then keep Zimmer was Zimmer, you know in the back of his mind taking these guys are trying to get rid of me. So you just say, of course, that’s our guy or the other way to handle it is just kind of, you know, not answer the question in which case everybody fully understands. You are answering the question. So you think you’re being cute but you’re answering the question and say yes, we’re trying to get rid of them by wavering on it don’t hurt her. I should have asked you to come Sizzla Floor coming back next year. What do you think the answer you think is going to be? Well, you know we go to the media asks you I think the right thing to do is say yes, of course dumb question and then if you want to fire me fire if the media wants to call you on it just to cares.
15m 47s – 16m 47s
He made you look dumb not the other way around cuz guess what you’re going to keep asking me questions as though I’m an authority and I want to keep telling me the answers that I want to give you whether they’re true or not. Cuz I could not care any less about you and your little articles. I’ve got a team to run a multi-billion-dollar franchise to run in a little Minnesota blog doesn’t mean anything to me and I’m not going to hurt my franchise answering your ridiculously dumb questions. I don’t care about you. So again, this is just to say I fully understand he said they’re they’re intending to keep them at this point. That might be their only option i d d, you know, I don’t know maybe they like some of the other candidates that are out there be enemy McDaniels. The Ravens offensive coordinator is getting a ton of love and could be a very good option. You also have to figure that. You might be looking to get a new quarterback in the near future. So maybe you want to get it off. I think that I think this is all ridiculous. I I think this is a defensive team of talk about identity in the past and the weird thing but certain teams
16m 47s – 17m 47s
This is just have identities that last through the decades the Vikings trying to go off at doesn’t work. They win when there are defensive team same is true for the Chicago Bears. They have tried over and over and over and over with guys like Trestman and everything else trying to get an elite offense and it just never works in. The one time that they’re legitimate team is when despite the fact that they’re still trying to go off ends Vic fangio building Elite defense and there you have it this Minnesota Vikings team lives and dies with their defense the purple people eaters on through the line This is a defensive franchise. They are a smash you in the mouth kind of a team and I just I don’t I don’t know. I don’t know why they would do it, but I wanted to bring it up because it is interesting and it definitely feels like this team has kind of been flogged. It’s kind of like Luke Kuechly Jumping Ship when everything’s kind of influx. Anyway, I’ve been kind of on the fence. Anyways, you’re going to fire my code. You’re getting rid of my quarterback. Probably maybe you’re bringing in all these new people. I just you know,
17m 47s – 18m 47s
The franchise is kind of in the in the in the train in the dirt. Whatever I can think of a word out of here and you know, the Vikings are kind of going through that’s enough that they’re a bad team. But you lose your offense of coordinator your defensive coordinator your assistant GM you might look at him know, you know what since we’re getting poached and we’re losing everything. I’ve been kind of want to make some changes. Anyways, let’s just kind of make some changes until I all I’m saying is if I had to guess the dimmers going to stay if for no other reason than he met that one qualification in that they beat the Saints and the replacement is currently coaching the Browns. However, keep that in the back your mind if the Vikings don’t have a good year next year. He’s 100% gone and it’s also possible that if they could find a good enough candidate they may move on. Anyways, I mean maybe before they go out and find it offensive coordinator. Maybe they go out and find somebody and offensive coordinator to coach the team and you know, there’s a lot of good defensive coordinators floating out there. They don’t get as many looks as had head coaching jobs as offensive coordinators do so. There’s some really quality guys that are just floating. So anyways something to keep an eye on.
18m 47s – 19m 47s
Something else that was brought up kind of a long that same vein Max in the Facebook group said he is a Packer fan from Minnesota and that there is growing speculation that Stefon Diggs is permanently unhappy on an overall average Vikings roster. Now though the point of his question was as a possible we end up getting them in the in the main response at he got was that there’s no way the Vikings are going to allow him to go to the Packers. That’s probably true. However, let’s also keep in mind. He doesn’t have to come to Green Bay in order for him to benefit us if the Vikings really do it again, they’re kind of in this middle grow their kind of in a spot where if they wanted to kind of tear things down they could or they can just try to hang on just replace the vacancies go into the draft get some more quality guys and come back and Hammer it again next year. I mean there there’s still a pretty good team. Although there is that question of the ticking Time Bomb might these guys are getting a year older and a year older and all our guys that are older or under these really long contract. I don’t know maybe we do need to start doing something a little bit more dramatic a little bit more.
19m 47s – 20m 47s
Secure Kendricks the odds of him playing at this level again or basically zero, he’s never play that at that high of a level ever in his career. He’s arguably the top linebacker in all football and I’ve been dogging the guy for 4 since forever saying he’s overrated Kendrick sandbach. You certainly was November 8th of this year and you know Everson Griffen and daneel Hunter very very good. But, you know the age catches up with everybody. These guys are both in or push in 32. Neil’s obviously a lot younger. He’s got a lot of tread left but Everson Griffen. I know you got them locked up long-term, but that doesn’t mean you got a quality player locked up long-term. He’s 32 just cuz you sign them through 35 doesn’t mean you’re freezing his age. So I don’t know. I mean if it’s true that they are considering moving on from their head coach. It’s certainly true that they could be willing to move on from there. They’re wide receiver, especially if he is kind of a head case and you feel as though he’s a negative in the locker room. I don’t know that he is I mean sometimes loud guys like that are positive other teammates really like him and I think her cousin says very much cuz he’s always screaming at cousin but so is
20m 47s – 21m 47s
The receiver feelings constantly getting into space 2 so you have to cut him if that’s if you’re just worried about him his Kirk Cousins feelings and Kirk Cousins is probably gonna be gone pretty soon. Anyway, so what are you worried about that for? Anyways, that’s enough about the Vikings. But I guess here’s to hoping you know, if the offseason has been really crazy since what like 2017 when it just really went nuts and we’ve seen teams do things that you know people that have been watching football for a long time. You just think that would never happen. That’s to correct. Those things have been happening the last few years, but some of the biggest stars just randomly end up on different teams. So it’ll be interesting to watch the Vikings in the kind of gauge and see what their strategy is which for a long time has been. Let’s just retain everybody at some point. You got to assume that they’re going to try to blow it up a little bit. We’ll see what happens little bit of minor Packers news parent leave the Packers had to work out with CFL running back to Shawn Amos. No clue. If there’s any relation to Adrian Amos. However, he is a r was a Calgary stampeder and a teammate of Reggie begelton another guy that we had.
21m 47s – 22m 47s
I believe sign to a reserve Futures deal. So we’ll see what happens when it comes to a PC still doing a lot of work and it clearly they’ve been doing some work in the CFL as well. And you know, I’m not going to not get a job goop the man knows what he’s doing. So we’ll see how the last thing I want to bring up before we take a break and get into some other more. I don’t know what college visit philosophical type thing. There was a point brought up by no other than OJ Simpson that Aaron Rodgers probably still has a chip on his shoulder against the 49ers leaving aside the part where that was a very long time ago because you probably still have some kind of a chip something that OJ seems to be forgetting is that he probably has a chip had a ship on the shoulder on November 24th, when we lost 30728 probably had a chip on his shoulder when we lost of the 49ers 23 to 20 back in 2014 as well as losing twice to the 49ers the year before
22m 47s – 23m 47s
So I’m not so sure that that really holds a lot of water I bring it up just because it’s entirely possible that there’s some pack offense of her then go. Oh, yeah, he was snubbed therefore. He’s angry therefore he wants revenge do this is the third time we face it for San Francisco in the playoffs with Aaron Rodger We Roll for 2. So yeah, maybe but I’m not putting a lot on that. However, he was the one thing I will say to try to get a little bit to that bigger than Aaron Rodgers is the general theme that although the Packers haven’t been perfect. They win when it matters, I would focus little bit more on that to be honest the fact that yes, we did lose to them earlier in the regular season, but when it really matters do we have the guys on this team come up and play a good football game and again to win when it matters that’s been there Mo all year. So be very Packers ask of them to have an ugly series with the 49ers but ultimately win when it matters and to once again prove everybody wrong something they’ve been doing literally all
23m 47s – 24m 47s
Let’s take a break and then I want to get in to see how much of this other stuff we can get at. I want to start with the the first thing first. That is this Eric eager guy who is a vitriolic anti Packers Vikings fan who is trying to put on his analytics hat as he tries to dismantle the Green Bay Packers and the shocking thing is that although other people are doing a fairly good job of it. Just just laying out historical fact and letting it lie there and letting Packer fans. Overreacting look like The Crazy Ones this Eric dude is just out of his mind. So I want to kind of walk through this a little bit to matter simply means that the offense is what is most predictive and actually this game was a perfect example of that. So it’s pretty clear. He’s trying to defend something right? He’s he’s he’s not walking something back but he got called out for something dumb and he’s trying to defend it. First of all, what in the world are you talking about? Trying to defend apparently some comment he made about defense.
24m 47s – 25m 47s
Doesn’t matter which is dumb as the guy that has in a self-proclaimed way written the book on it. That’s just not true offense is more predictive of success. That’s not true. Remember what my little project was quarterback versus defense, which really is how they started off. That’s what I call it ends up being sort of what the predictive odds of winning based on your statistical points where you rank in terms of points and yards on offense and a defendant in a mathematical sense looking at every single Super Bowl winner throughout all of Super Bowl history. I looked at what the percentage odds are based on all these things and end points against which is defensive points allowed is by far the most predictive in terms of actually winning a Super Bowl 30% 30% of all Super Bowl winners have the number one overall defense. That’s just number one.
25m 47s – 26m 46s
I’ve been through all this stuff before he’s just wrong about this defense is more predictive of success know if you’re talking about maybe some other things. I I don’t know what is initial claim was but he’s absolutely wrong having a great offense is going to help you win the Superbowl but having a better defense is much more predictive and then for him to go on and say end this game was a great example of that. Excuse me, the Packers won because of their offense against the Seattle defense. Is that the claim that you’re making that’s absurd It song about the Packers five sacks Russell Wilson had a better day than Aaron Rodgers did statistically it was Aaron who it was Russell Wilson versus the Packers defense. That was the story of this game. This was not an example of that. If you go back over history the last time they played in the playoffs the Seahawks want and it was Seattle’s defense against the Packers offense. This was Seattle’s offense against the Packers defense in both cases defense came out on top two hilarious thing though. Is that his co-host
26m 47s – 27m 47s
Yeah, that’s right. And then goes on to explain how the Packers defense was really good and that the Seattle offense was really good what this game was? Absolutely. I mean we were we were told the entire in a sort of going into the game that Green Bay was more Stout up front in Seattle and they were I mean, they think pressured Wilson more than 50% of his dropbacks. But ultimately Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have gained the Packers. They made a lot of plays Wilson at 106 passer rating when pressured their yards per play We’re actually higher than their historical, you know average for the season. I think they were saying that offense is more important than defense and this game shows in the co-host goes. Yeah, that’s true. Seattle’s offense was incredible. And in fact, they played better on offense then they have all year, but the Packers defense was better. Maybe they just think Seattle one. I don’t know.
27m 47s – 28m 13s
I’m a little confused because the initial statement for mr. Eric was defense doesn’t matter the whole Cohoes comes out and says, yes, he knows offense was great Packers defense was great Packers won and to look at his face as he just sits there and watch it happen to him is hilarious Cindy goes down and tries to do damage control and explain how Green Bay’s defense actually isn’t that good? And that in fact, I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know listen to what this guy is trying to do here.
28m 14s – 28m 48s
Upoint were talking before this which is like Willie Turner Turner drops a stone cold light up in past. That’s not an example of Green Bay’s defense being great, right? It’s an example of offense dictating what happens in this game great offense is going to win out right? That’s just what happened and that offense is also going to make your defense look good, right? So Russell Wilson in this game his fatal flaw was that he held onto the ball a long time and he did not feel the pressure and Aaron Rodgers. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop stop.
28m 49s – 29m 49s
Wow, this is this is how I knew he was a Vikings fan. This is how I absolutely knew because this makes no sense Point number one offense dictates to defense. So the point you’re making is basically the the way that I’m going to be right about this is that I’m going to say offense is more important the defense and if you point out to me a good defense I’m going to say that it wasn’t actually good defense was just bad offense, which you can do in every case, except your one example is ridiculous. You gave one example of a guy dropping a pass how many other dropped passes were there? And and what are the five sacks come into play and how about the dropped interception? Can we just hand him? Can we hand Kevin King the ball since we’re just going to make stuff up. Let me ask you another question explain to me how the Tennessee Titans beat the number one ranked offense in football. How did that happen? It don’t even give me this garbage about Lamar didn’t play. Well, he threw some of the most pinpoint perfect passes I’ve ever seen in my life. He was running for his life. That is a very good offense that try to dictate a with but loss.
29m 49s – 30m 35s
To a better defense because the old adage that defense wins championships has kind of been true for a while. If you don’t have a good defense, you don’t have yourself a Super Bowl the last time a team won. The didn’t have a top-10 defense was the 2013 Ravens and I tell you right now with 100% certainty that was a top-10 defense by the time they hit the playoffs and Ray Lewis said guys. I just need one more the last time a team won Super Bowl without a top-10 defense or offense. 2016 Bronco that offense was not good at all. The quarterback was ranked 39th about the number 4 ranked scoring defense in the number one defense in terms of yarded and know their quarterback didn’t get better in the postseason. He was the same guy that couldn’t hardly do any of it. At least physically this it this is such.
30m 36s – 31m 36s
Ridiculous nonsense trying to say that despite the fact that it was actually the Packers defense that one and then the Seahawks offense that lost another what’s a good offense force a good defense and the defense with the way you twist. This is by actually saying the the Seahawks offense wasn’t good. The guy just laid out the statistics. It was a very good offensive performance and Russell Wilson played out of his mind and a know he held on the ball too long. I wonder why genius you think maybe it’s cuz nobody was open because you know defense, what are you talkin about? Why are you doing this the reputation of Pro Football Focus is going in the tank. Every time you open your mouth PFF is all about Advanced analytics. It’s about statistics is supposed to be about facts right that the even her grading scale is based on a very strict criteria of factual information and you got this guy flapping his gums sing the dumbest crap I’ve ever heard of my life offense dictates to defense a good defense.
31m 36s – 32m 36s
Is nothing more than a bad offense. What are you talkin about? This these words have never been spoken in the history of the universe ever accept by this Vikings fan who forgets that he’s on on an actual broadcast and his hatred of the Packers has so consumed him that he can’t even form a coherent thought he is. So Lowe’s to give the Packers any credit that he’s essentially saying that the Seahawks just their offense just fell apart. The five sacks just kind of happened Russell Wilson held onto the ball because he just felt like it not because nobody was open but because he felt like it despite the fact we saw the replays in the coverage and nobody was open and there was nowhere to go with the ball for not going to give Packers any credit this this this is exactly the problem and I don’t I don’t think we’re going to have time to get to my other thing. Maybe we’ll talk about it tomorrow. I don’t have a problem with the analytics Community. But but this is no different than than the end in the political realm there statistics and there is evidence for just about anything that you want to prove and when you get people with enough
32m 36s – 33m 36s
They’ll try to use all this stuff to basically paint the picture that just isn’t so and this is not even a coherent looking picture. This isn’t even using statistics or anyting. This is just a guy that’s lost his mind either. He’s lost his mind. He’s never had one. I don’t know. I don’t know who this guy is. I’ve never heard him speak before but this is dumb and it’s not just cuz he’s talking about the pack of this is the end of this is a stance that he’s taking that offense is more important the defense an example of a defense beating out the offense. It’s because the offense didn’t do what it’s supposed to do that’s called circular logic my friend. That’s not how this works. That’s not how anything works. If you’re listening to this and you want I can let you borrow my thirteen-year-old daughters introduction to logic book. It’ll maybe help you work through this a little bit. She’s done with that when she’s moved on to intermediate logic so you can borrow the the intro to logic book if you if you want it seems like you you might need it but the but the but that’s what that’s what gets me so frustrated about this because there are people that are just being honest.
33m 36s – 34m 36s
I don’t have any problem with Vegas giving better odds the 49ers again. I trust Vegas because Vegas is just all they care about is money. I trust a greedy capitalist because they just care about money there a biased they’re not willing to to to lose money to get their way of Vikings fan working at a casino setting a betting line is not going to move the line to sort of hurt the Packers fans feeling because they just care about money and so I can trust them doesn’t mean they’re right but they’re going to take all the available information which is the other thing I wanted to talk about but we don’t have time is in a how much how much of the stuff that we can see accounts for the whole picture. That’s sort of a another question that will try to talk about tomorrow because some of the analytics people seem to think that all the information we have is all the information we need and my ability to take the information and paint the correct picture is is 100% accurate. So I am all-knowing and that’s that’s when you get to be obnoxious. I love analytics. I love none.
34m 36s – 35m 36s
The love playing with stuff because it provides a little bit of context. It paints a picture but the actual Beauty and football I’ll give you the end of the story tomorrow. I’ll just ruin it is the fact that we don’t know anyting the fact that there isn’t a supercomputer that’s going to tell us who wins the Super Bowl because there will never be a super computer that can tell us that because there is an unknown quantity to the human element of football that will always remain unknown that at that can’t ever be no that is the part about football that makes football special statistics will never be able to touch that part of football ever until some of these people are just wildly speaking out of turn and I’m to the point now that anytime I see it. I’m just going to try to come swing it if you want to say you think the 49ers and I went I don’t care that’s fine. You should think that if I wasn’t a pack of Five Nights at 49ers going to win and I don’t need the other game. I don’t know. How do I run things Chiefs? I’m kind of leaning Titans a little bit same way. I was leaning Titans against the Raven cuz you have these wildly good offense is going up against a team that has a rat that is just a solidly, you know steady team.
35m 36s – 36m 36s
You don’t like I go for the study Team every time it was steady Patriots looking team versus team that let a team score 24 points in a quarter and then came back and scored like 30 or three touchdowns in 3 minutes. That is the epitome of volatility. Anyways, that’s neither here nor there point is I have no problem with Packer fans saying I think we’re going to lose that I’ve gotten so many messages saying I’m not feeling good about this. I don’t think we’re going to win that doesn’t bother me letters are a good team. Even if they weren’t there’s no guarantees in football, which is another thing that the analytics Community doesn’t want to look at. They look at the fact that the Packers almost lost the Lions save their for their garbage. Why because your supercomputer said if they were good, they would have blown him out of the water. Your supercomputer is stupid and I hate the fact that I am at war with the analytics Community because I feel like these are my people. I’m the one that’s been taking the the arrows for PFF for 2 year haven’t talked about how we can go back up in this and this guy is not the embodiment of what PFF is. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why he’s there. I don’t know who liked who gave him a microphone.
36m 36s – 37m 36s
Speaking anything factual or even using what is going on with Twitter do this is ridiculous the stuff that’s trending is just get out of here. I got to get off here stuff popping up like why is what anyways, so there’s a lot more I want to talk about but, you know time constraints and whatnot. I know. It’s only 36 minutes in but I got to go to work speaking of a couple things everyone. Don’t forget patreon if everybody listening decides to give me a dollar a month. I can start working on my sales pitch to my wife to quit my job. It won’t work, but I’ll start I’ll try secondly on a slightly more serious note, although I would seriously appreciate that regardless of what happens with the Green Bay Packers in a few weeks. The season is over. Let me encourage you because there’s a lot more listeners now than there have been over the past year because of how much popularity with the Packers and their the playoffs and all that. Let me encourage you to please stick around after the season is over if you need a couple days to recoup after a loss if there is a loss, that’s fine. But but please come back.
37m 36s – 38m 36s
Because I’ll tell you what the offseason is when things get fun with the draft coming up with free agency coming up. This this is one of my favorite times of the year. In fact that the Packers won in the playoffs. This would already be my favorite time of the year. It’s the time when we get to dream as Packer fans about what can be what might be to look at the prospects to look at the free agents. And then once we get them to talk about what they might be able to do for the offseason is the time to dream about what could be it’s also that the best time to go back and really digging deep into what the Packers were. Not just what they can be but what they really were in to theorize and that’s what I love the most the regular season is not my favorite time to podcast it’s easy because everything is laid out for you, but it almost kind of gets monotonous is the same thing at the same schedule as it’s just but you got to hit on these points so I can’t get away from it. Even on a daily podcast you get your routines in your ritual. I like the offseason the offseason is when the fun happen, so, please let me encourage you to at least stick around for
38m 36s – 39m 12s
Weaker for 2 weeks just to see if if I’m lying to you and if you don’t love it, and if you’re not getting some inside, so you never thought you would and if you’re not enjoying the offseason by all means going to the football hibernation, and we’ll we’ll see you again in August, but I promise you this offseason going to be a lot of fun. I’m still planning on doing daily. I did it daily last year didn’t think I could but I made it and I fully intend to do it again. So that’s my pan. I’d love to see the numbers increase in the offseason instead of decrease. Anyways, you folks have ourselves a fantastic day. It’s us against the world, and that’s exactly how it needs to be. I will talk to you tomorrow. Have a good one. Bye. Bye.

Marketing Mantra: Relationship Building vs Revenue Generation- what should you focus on?
Tumblr media
Your company’s net worth doesn’t depend on the amount of money you spend on ads. It depends on the relationships you build.
Everyone is interested in running ads, collecting data, and somehow reaching out to their prospective audience.
Here, are they forgetting the real essence of marketing?
Answer is a big Fat Yes !!!
Where exactly are they lacking, any idea ?
They are failing to understand the definition of Marketing.
So, How do we define the Marketing ?
Marketing is a simple process of identifying the prospective audience and build automated systems to reach out to these prospective audience consistently to communicate your company’s purpose and mission.
If you haven’t understood this secret until now, you will fall out of the game soon. When you don’t concentrate on value creation activities, you end up wasting money on ads. The lead conversion rates may remain around 2-5%.
In this way, you fail to build long lasting relationships with prospects and find it difficult to retain them. You may lose them to competitors as well. It can terrifically affect your ROI too.
“It takes months to find a customer… but just seconds to lose one” —Vince Lombardi
In this era of digital marketing, you need to frame the most effective marketing strategies of customer value creation. Here’s the simple 4 step process to create value and build long lasting customer relationships so that your conversion rates hikes up to 10-30%.
1: Identify your ideal customer & what they want
It is not just identifying customers randomly. You need to assume a set of customers who have problems which can be solved with your products or services.
You can win in the long run by filtering the most ideal customers who are likely to buy your products as you are able to find a solution to their problems or needs and aspirations. The concept of simply fishing in a dirty pond will not serve in the long run. Here, you need to weave the perfect strategy of right customer acquisition.
The quality of customer acquisition matters than simply its quantity.
It’s not just lead generation that will help you in the long run. You must focus on how to give value to your customers so that they will become your loyal fans.
For identifying your target market, you need to evaluate who is your present customers, and for what reason do they purchase from you? Are you solving their problems or aspirations? Search for regular attributes and interests. Another aspect is to check out your competitors.
Who are your competitors focusing on? Who are their present customers?
Try not to pursue a similar market. You may discover a niche market that they you are overlooking. Write out a list of each component of your product or services.
I.e List all the advantages it gives. When you have your benefits recorded, prepare a list of people who have a need that your benefit fulfills. Figure out not just who requires your product or services, but also who are willing to pay for it.
In this way, you are not just selling, but adding enormous value to customers by fulfilling their desires and aspirations.
ALSO READ: 7 Steps List Building Formula
2. Offer them a lead magnet
Getting traffic to your site is good, however, it pretty much pointless if those prospects don’t convert.
There’s one strategy to use over all others to produce new leads:
A lead magnet.
But ‘lead magnets’ aren’t a newly introduced concept. They’ve been a vital part in an advertiser’s arsenal for decades.
You give prospects something of high value in exchange for their contact information (usually email id). This gives you permission to market to your potential customers (those who sign-up for your lead magnet).
Lead Magnets don’t need to be extensive or complex.
A long and complex Lead Magnet will probably likely convert poorly.
You need to take care of a particular issue with a particular answer for a particular segment of your market. i.e Lead magnets should be super-specific.
Here’s the secret…
Your Lead Magnet must be consumed by the prospect for it to have an effect.
The ideal Lead Magnet will offer tremendous value within five minutes of the opt-in. This is a “rule of thumb,” obviously.
However, we don’t suggest, for instance, a small scale course delivered in more than 14 days or a 200-page digital book as a Lead Magnet. These Lead Magnets are seldom consumed entirely.
ALSO READ: 3 Key Roles Of A World-Class Digital Marketing Team
3. Strategically nurture them
Business relationships won’t grow unless they are nurtured.
You should focus on giving 90% value and rest 10% sales
To give a better value to them, you need to keep an eye on what your prospects are sharing and liking on all social platforms. This gives an idea of what are their problems or needs.
It’s pointless to simply create leads because those leads don’t consequently translate revenue. For that, you need them to convert.
Stay In Touch And Nurture Relationships Overtime to convert your contacts into contracts
In order to convert prospects to loyal fans, suitable changes in the sales funnel is necessary so that these prospects can bring sales.
Lead nurturing is the process of building and nurturing customers throughout their buying process.
The objective is to manage them through various phases of your business channel and in the long run get them to convert. You have to serve them with relevant content and information depending on where they are in the funnel.
It’s a well known fact that over 80% of new leads will never bring in a sale. But, nurtured leads are 50% more sales-ready. At the end of the day, nurturing your leads will improve your chances of converting them and also improve your revenue in the long run.
ALSO READ: 11 Step Content Creation Strategy To Convert Your Contacts To Contracts
4. Offer them a tripwire
If you’re unhappy with your conversion rate. You need to analyze why.
People simply aren’t purchasing what you’re selling. The solution often lies in offering them a tripwire.
Tripwire marketing is an acceleration hack that persuades target customers to purchase something small from you instead of high-cost products or services.
Tripwire should be able to get all the costs spent on marketing activities.
To boost conversions, once in a while, say every 15 days you need to push tripwires to such prospects who wants problems can be solved by you.
You may make a mini-course that supplements your main course. It could incorporate one or two short videos, a couple of checklists, and a few articles or even a webinar.
You may either sell a smaller course $15 or even $100. But the main intention is to make your tripwire attractive to new customers. Most people are more willing to spend small amounts of money than a huge chunk.

Strategically nurture them (90% Value and 10% Selling Rule) Once they share their contact information with us, we nurture them through weekly content, blogs, emails etc. At this Phase, we achieve another 10-30% conversions and conversion rates purely depends upon the quality of content that we use for nurturing. Yellowstone Wolves: The Return Of The Wolf To Yellowstone
The return of the Yellowstone wolves will interest any survivalist who wants to be in the know!

How the Yellowstone Wolves Stimulated a Comeback
In the Beginning …
At one time, man and wolf lived in harmony, but then things took a dark turn. The U.S. government attempted to cause the deliberate extinction of these magnificent creatures.
Since the moment wolf first trusted the man, and man first trusted the wolf, many things changed. For centuries, the Native Americans depicted the wolf in their art and stories.
Most often, the paint or tale displayed wolf and human joined as one powerful creature. In some legends, the man is given healing powers and in others, the wolf saved the people from “the worlds largest” flood.
Many Native Americans believed in man’s brotherhood with the wolf. Not so long ago, wolves wandered almost all the United States. Between 250,000 and 500,000, wild wolves lived in harmony with Native Americans and the ecosystem.

By the Early 1900 s, the Harmony Between Man and Wolf Changed …
Over a century ago, people around the world began waging a war against the wolf. The U.S. government implemented a nationwide policy of wolf control.
Wolves were pests posing a threat to the safety and prosperity of the American people. Theodore Roosevelt is a man known for his environmental activism, yet he proclaimed the wolf as” the beast of trash and demolition .” Then, he called for their eradication.
Soon after, the existence of the wolf declined dramatically between 1900 and 1920. Congress sanctioned the Bureau of Biological Survey to shoot, trap and poison wolves to extinction.
In fact, skulls and wolf skins piled high for victory photographs and to claim the bounties. Most believed they served God and the United States by ridding the countryside of such vermin.
Even national parks such as Yellowstone National Park was not spared in this new act of Congress. Wolves were actively hunted in the Greater Yellowstone region in the early 1900 s.
Yellowstone Wolves Driven Off Their Land
Yellowstone was once a sanctuary where wolves once wandered free. They were “protected” under the Yellowstone National Park Act of 1872.
It stated that the Secretary of the Interior “must provide against the wanton destruction of the fisheries industry and game found within said Park.”
Their protection and security are now run … as if it never existed.
Through a systematic extermination of every wolf discovered, the U.S. government won its combat against nature. By 1960, the once populous gray wolf was essentially extinct throughout its former range.
The last 300 wolves in the lower 48 nations wandered the deep timbers of upper Michigan and Minnesota. They merely survived by operating and concealing at the first sign of humans.
The wolf is the only species to be deliberately driven to the brink of extinction by humans.

The Wolf’s Triumphant Return to Yellowstone
In the 1970 s, national awareness of environmental issues and repercussions grow. It thus led to the passageway of many laws.
Laws now designed to correct the mistakes of the past. Furthermore, help prevent similar missteps in the future.
One such law was the Endangered Species Act, passed in 1973. This law involved the U.S. Fish and Wildlife to restore endangered species, if possible.
By 1978, all wolf subspecies were on the federal listing of endangered species. This is all for the lower 48 countries except for Minnesota.

The Yellowstone Wolf Project
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service formed the 1987 Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf Recovery Plan. It proposed reintroduction of an “experimental population” of wolves into Yellowstone.
Congress provided funds, in 1991, to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It was to prepare an environmental impact statement( EIS) on the restoration of wolves.
That was done through consultation with the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service. In June 1994, the Secretary of the Interior signed the Record of Decision.
Now, after several years and a near-record number of public comments, it was for the final EIS for the reintroduction of gray wolves to Yellowstone National park and central Idaho.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service captured wolves in Canada. This was in late 1994 and early 1995, and again in 1996, together with the Canadian wildlife biologists. They then relocated and released them in both Yellowstone and central Idaho.
The Transformation of Yellowstone
Since 1995, the wolf population of individual regions has quintupled. Then, something else magical happened. The ecosystem is flourishing!
Now we know about the importance of wolves in maintaining balance in the ecosystem. We know now from research by Oregon State University’s Bill Ripple and his colleagues. They’ve been studying the ecological impacts of the wolf reintroduction.
How Wolves Saved Yellowstone
The restoration of the wolves and the then recovery of the Yellowstone ecosystem is one of the greatest conservation success narratives of all time.
The impacts have been dramatic. Within three years of the reintroduction, coyote populations declined by 50%.
The elk population in Yellowstone after wolf reintroduction increased. More importantly, they’ve regained a healthy level of fear.
They now avoid high-risk areas like the sensitive river banks. That in turn, helps reestablish willow trees in Yellowstone. The aspens, cottonwoods, and willows are all was coming … and with them, the beaver.

The future of the wolf continues to be promising with each passing year. Even though the numbers of wolf packs may never be what they once were, it’s a glorious sight to insure the wolf come home again.

The 12 Best Things to Do in Bonn, Germany

Wander amongst Botanic Gardens on Palace Grounds
GettyImages / Murat Taner
Bonn's Botanic Gardens (officially Botanische Gärten der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn) are on the grounds of Poppelsdorf Palace. Once the castle grounds for the Archbishop of Cologne, this refreshing site dates back to 1340. The castle only began to be built in 1715, replacing an earlier castle. To match the Baroque castle, the gardens were re-worked from renaissance style to compliment the castle.
Wiped out during the fighting of WWII, the gardens were painstakingly reconstructed from 1979 to 1984. The elegant 6.5 hectares are now open to public and free on weekdays. Over 8,000 plant species are grown here, including endangered species like Lady's Slipper Orchids. There is an arboretum, Mediterranean and fern houses, and even a carnivorous plant house. Take note of the exemplary mineralogical museum.
Visitors who get the chance to visit during the summer shouldn't miss the regular Poppeldorf Palace concerts which feature classical music in front of the palace.

Look up at the Cathedral
GettyImages / Brigitte Merz
Bonn's stunning cathedral is the symbol of the city with its five towers poking high into the sky. Known in German as Bonner Münster, this is one of the best examples of a Romanesque church on the Rhine River.
The site was a Roman temple and Christian church before the cathedral was built. The cathedral was constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, making it one of Germany's oldest cathedrals still standing. Located on today's Münsterplatz, it was built on the graves of two martyred Roman soldiers who became the city’s patron saints. It is also the site where two Holy Roman Emperors, Charles IV and Frederick the Fair, were crowned in the 14th century.
Step inside and around the current restorations (expected to continue into 2019) to admire its Gothic details and Baroque decoration. Main attractions include the 11th century crypt or the 12th century cloister, as well as the defined Expressionist art in the windows created by the saint Heinrich Campendonk. One of the newest discoveries is the tomb of Siegfried von Westerburg, archbishop of Cologne from 1275 to 1297.

Center your visit on Münsterplatz
GettyImages / no_limit_pictures
The square in front of Bonn's Minster is the largest in town, and the cathedral is not the only attraction here.
Lying to the east, Bonn's Altes Rathaus (town hall) is all pristine pink-and-gold Rococo elegance dating back from the 18th-century. A twin staircase leads inside to the mayor’s office. This noble building was once the site of all official business when Bonn was the capital of West Germany. Important visitors from John F. Kennedy to Mikhail Gorbachev have walked up those staircases.
Today, this square is the center of Bonn city life. Autumn brings the annual Bonn-Fest, and in winter, this is the site of a picturesque Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market). From December 1 to Christmas Eve the Rathaus transforms into a massive Advent calendar with new windows opened everyday.

Honor a Classic
GettyImages / Werner Dieterich
Bonn is the birthplace of the great Ludwig van Beethoven and a monument to him also sits in Münsterplatz. A bronze statue of the classic composer dates back to 1845, erected on the 75th anniversary of Beethoven's birth at a festival helmed by another renowned composer, Franz Liszt. The Beethoven festival still happens every year and celebrates Germany's premier musician.
At the base of the statue are allegorical representations of the types of Beethoven's music like phantasy, spiritual, fidelio and eroica. Behind it there is a cheery yellow baroque Palais that is now just a post office, but it offsets the monument beautifully.

Visit Beethoven’s House
GettyImages / nevereverro
If you want to pay further tribute to Bonn's most famous descendant, make a visit to Beethoven-Haus. This is the site of his birth in 1770.
A museum dedicated to his life and work was opened in 1893. A humble exterior gives way to rare artifacts and documents from his life, like an original portrait of his family, personal letters, and hand-written sheet music. Examine his instruments, ear trumpet for his poor hearing, and death mask. A digitalized research center includes all of his finest work and even rare recordings, plus an interactive 3-D show. All of this comprises the largest Beethoven collection in the world.

Walk Beneath a Canopy of Cherry Blossoms
Jordan Wilms
Lines of Japanese kirschbaum (cherry trees) are a star attraction for 10 to 14 days each spring. They appear across the country, but Bonn has become world-famous for its blossom avenue.
Photographers gather on this street to gawk at the heavy blossoms leaning overhead, creating a tunnel-like canopy. This means there can be more people than flowers, but it is still quite a sight. Visit in the early evening to avoid the crowds and enjoy the pink-shaded lamp light.

Walk Bonn’s Museum Mile
GettyImages / Iain Masterton
Bonn's culture isn't all hundreds of years old. One of the city's top attractions is its Museumsmeile (museum mile). Here are some highlights of the museum mile.
Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany: Simply called the Bundeskunsthalle, this modern museum is dedicated to 20th century art. This is the largest collection of Rhenish Expressionism in the world, as well as work by August Macke (one of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter) and Joseph Beuys.
Haus der Geschichte: The House of Contemporary German History (HDG) covers everything leading up to WWII to the present including the city's reign as the capitol. There are artifacts from the city's Roman origins to coverage of daily life in the East and West.
Alexander König Museum: One of the best natural history and zoological museums in all of Germany.
Deutsches Museum Bonn: Covers historical technological advances.
Kunstmuseum Bonn: A museum dedicated to modern art, founded  in 1947. It focuses on Rhenish Expressionism and August Macke in particular, one of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter. Also included are post-war artists like Joseph Beuys, Georg Baselitz, and Blinky Palermo. Also watch out for the extensive video collection.
Arithmeum: Extensively studies the history of mathematics with over 1,200 artifacts from antique calculators to rare books. These pieces of antiquity are housed in a thoroughly modern setting of steel and glass.
Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn: One of the oldest history museums in Germany.

Cruise the Middle Rhine
GettyImages / KenWiedemann
Bonn marks the beginning of the Mittelrhein (Middle Rhine), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of the most beautiful areas along the Rhine River, a popular cruise destination with frequent stops at the many charming towns along the river.
Routes generally run from Cologne to Koblenz where the Rhine joins the Mosel. From here cruisers can enjoy views of castle after castle.
If you want to get off the more popular cruise route, try the Ahr, a tributary of the Rhine that offers more destination villages with half the tourists.

Tour a Modern Castle
GettyImages / Creativ Studio Heinemann
An easy day trip from Bonn, Schloss Drachenburg is in a Gothic Revival-style perched above the Rhine. Like Neuschwanstein, this isn't a stellar example of a medieval castle, but it sure is pretty.
Located on one of the Siebengebirge (seven hills) of Drachenfels, this castle was completed at the late time period of 1884 on the orders of a wealthy banker, Stephan von Sarter. He never lived there, however, and the castle passed through many hands before being given protected historical status.
Visitors can hike the long pathway up, even past the showy castle to an older ruin at the top, or take the charming and actually historic Drachenfelsbahn tram. Inside the place is decorated in showy Baroque excess, but the real attraction are the views down to the river and all the way back to Bonn.

Tour a Medieval Castle
Dickbauch
If Drachenburg didn't fulfill your medieval fantasy, nearby Godesburg Castle certainly will.
This stark stone castle was built in the 13th century, but was largely destroyed by the late 16th in the Cologne War. Luckily, in 1959, the castle has been restored to its original character with modern amenities like a restaurant with spectacular views of the countryside.
Another element of its restoration is that the interior of the castle was turned into apartments. Every man's home is his castle, but for these residents it really is.

Get Back to Nature
GettyImages / Jorg Greuel
Just south of Bonn and part of a public park is the Waldau forest. This beloved entryway back to nature has many animals as a game reserve like deer, owls, badgers, bats, and dangerous wild boars (seriously—boars are a real threat in rural Germany).
This forest offers many relaxing walks among its established hornbeams and oak trees. The historic Haus der Natur, an environmental education center, is open to the public and offers information on the more than 1,000-year history of the surrounding Kottenforst (to access that area directly there is a handy Bahnhof Kottenforst on the S-Bahn). Popular with families, there is also a large playground.

Make Bonn your ideal Base for Day Trips
Robert Harding/Getty Images
Cologne is the usual pick for a base in North Rhine-Westphalia , but Bonn makes for a less touristy, more relaxed option for day trips around the state.
Top German cities like Cologne are just a short drive or train ride away at 30 minutes. Dusseldorf is just an hour away, Dortmund an hour and a half, and Frankfurt is two.
Also in the area are lesser-known German destinations like Aachen, Münster‎, Wuppertal, and many more.

Dunlevy: Decrying gentrification – 'Big developers' are a big problem in Mile End
It's 'sad,' says Project Montréal's Marie Plourde, when new property owners 'don’t have any sense of the neighbourhood'
T'Cha Dunlevy, Montreal Gazette
Published on: February 17, 2018
Marie Plourde has one word to describe her reaction to the skyrocketing rents for certain commercial properties in Mile End, and how the situation is forcing out businesses that are part of the fabric of the neighbourhood.
“I’m devastated,” said the Projet Montréal councillor for the neighbourhood. “It’s dramatic. I support all the business owners who are there, who are resisting, who are worried. All this brings up inflation, and rents in general.
“Landlords aren’t crazy. If rent is a certain price for one space, they say, ‘I want to rent my space out for that much, too.’”
A week ago, I wrote about Le Cagibi, a vegetarian café-restaurant-indie showbar at the corner of St-Laurent Blvd. and St-Viateur St. The building was recently sold, and the new landlords proposed a rent hike that would have more than doubled the $3,417 that Le Cagibi currently pays per month. As a result, the owners decided to move one neighbourhood north, to Little Italy.
That’s a makeshift solution for Le Cagibi but not for Mile End, according to Plourde.
“It’s normal that with the passing of time, landlords want to sell their buildings,” she noted. “But it’s very sad when it’s sold to big developers like this, with long arms — people who don’t have any sense of the neighbourhood.
“What made the area attractive in the first place is that it’s totally outside of the big chains and more generic businesses. The owners of these boutiques are residents of the neighbourhood, who are answering a demand. Mile End is a dynamic village, a charming neighbourhood — which is why (video-game giant) Ubisoft set up there.”
Mile End’s iconic St-Viateur St. strip is in the midst of a transformation from which there may be no turning back. The building in which Le Cagibi is located was bought by Jeremy Kornbluth and Brandon Shiller, who in tandem with maverick real-estate firm Shiller-Lavy Realties, co-owned by Brandon’s father Stephen Shiller, have bought at least seven commercial buildings on St-Viateur St. since 2014, many of which have since seen substantial rent increases and a turnover of occupants.
Last year, yoga apparel chain Lululemon moved into a building owned by Shiller-Lavy, across from St. Viateur Bagel, raising eyebrows of residents with its first running-themed clothing store. One of the two businesses edged out to make room was children’s clothing shop Nid de la Cigogne.
“That was in the spirit of the neighbourhood,” Plourde said. “Does (Lululemon) look like Mile End? I don’t understand. I have nothing against the line.
“To make matters worse, they made a hole on St-Denis,” she continued, referring to a Lululemon outlet that closed down near the corner of Marie-Anne St.
“It was perfect on St-Denis. But they pushed out two businesses to make a big store (on St-Viateur).”
Far from a simple financial decision, the kind of commerce that takes over a space has a direct effect on the character of a neighbourhood. Plourde brought up an A&W that set up at the corner of St-Denis St. and Mount-Royal Ave. in 2011, prompting Projet Montréal councillor Alex Norris to contact the chain’s Vancouver headquarters concerning “the ugliness and poor taste” of a temporary commercial sign installed on the building’s façade.
“That space was being coveted by Café Myriade, which would have been super,” Plourde said. “But now there’s an A&W on the corner — great. I like a Mozza Burger, but when we talk about a business (to anchor a neighbourhood), that’s not it.”
And so Mile End sits at a crossroads. Shiller-Lavy (along with Kornbluth and Shiller) now owns a substantial portion of St-Viateur St., with two of its spaces (and soon, with Le Cagibi’s locale, a possible third) sitting empty; “à louer” signs challenge future tenants willing to take their chances and fork over the elevated rents. Meanwhile, the rest of the neighbourhood waits and watches.
“We can’t stop people from buying buildings,” Plourde said. “It’s free enterprise, and that would go against all kinds of things; but there need to be better regulations around commercial leases. It can’t just be a jungle. We’ve been demanding that for a long time.”
Commercial leases are under provincial jurisdiction, meaning that Plourde, Projet Montréal, business owners, residents of Mile End and other gentrification-affected neighbourhoods may be waiting a while for regulatory changes.
In the mean time, there are rumblings at the grassroots level. Plourde speaks of creating a consumers’ committee, and of a Mile End business-owners association that she and councillor Richard Ryan helped spearhead in 2015 with funding from Projet Montréal.
She is also looking at other cities such as Paris, where non-profit organizations have helped find alternatives to protect and promote small businesses that fit with a neighbourhood.
“I hope it’s not too late for Mile End,” she said. “It’s a neighbourhood in development, like Mile Ex, Villeray and Ahuntsic.”
Despite the mounting obstacles, Plourde has faith.
“This neighbourhood has always been very resilient,” she said. “It has always survived. Mile End has known highs and lows, historically. I read (Yves Desjardins’) book Histoire du Mile End. The neighbourhood survived the industrial wave. It has such deep roots.
“The residents of the area are so involved, on all levels. It’s easy to mobilize people for projects, whether it’s a skate park or deciding what to do with the area around the train tracks. That’s the strength of Mile End.”
Although it is easy to understand why some would oppose “Gentrification” what is difficult to comprehend is why certain people think that Landlords should not be allowed to obtain market rent for their property and should actually subsidize commercial tenants. There is no reason for any current owner, or new purchaser, in this area not to rent for the maximum they can. To do this of course a property has to be properly maintained, or even renovated. Maybe an owner does not have cash to do this, but has a lot of equity in his property. It is time to use some of that equity to maximize your potential profit. To help with this a private mortgage could help and in Montreal one of the best providers of private mortages is TempBridge Inc.  Check out their website at www.tempbridge.ca.

November 29, 2017. Budapest, Hungary.
It’s hard to look at the weirdly rounded mountains and omnipresent crumbling limestone deposits and not imagine that it’s all still underwater, especially at night. It’s hard to take a picture that neatly isolates what I’m talking about, but the overall impression is that Budapest was probably where the original Castlevania games were set.
Tumblr media
In one of the endlessly sprawling parks, I found this little summary of how Budapest happened. Buda is the mountainous side, Pest the one with all the buildings leaning backward for some reason. Around the corner was Philosophy Park, which didn’t feature any of my favorites but I was still honorbound to check out.
Can you name them? Probably not, because the artist took a hell of a lot of creative liberties. Let’s make it a matching game. Above we got Lao Tzu, Buddha, Jesus the Christ, St. Francis Assisi, and Bodhidharma. The dude skipping legs is Gandhi.
He was the easiest to guess. Also present was Abraham, groveling in the dirt, as is the typical requisite demand of his horrifying god.
Tumblr media
There was also allegedly a statue of Ankhenaten, alias Amenhotep IV, an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty who died around 1334 BC. He was the one who dragged ancient Egypt toward monotheism through worship of Aten, a kind of catch-all solar superdeity.
I say allegedly because I defy you to look at this sculpture and tell me this isn’t a fuckin annunaki.
Tumblr media
annunakum?
Philosophy Park’s little plaque alleges that it was sculpted to pay homage to the great minds who increased understanding and compassion throughout the world and helped shape culture, but I’m pretty sure it was just dude’s hamfisted attempt to Leo da Vinci some Ancient Aliens lip service.
After that I headed up to Castle Hill proper and peeped the palace, the decorative statuary, and the associated vistas.
Further down through the Castle District is the Matthias Cathedral and Fisherman’s Bastion.
The cathedral is done up in a Gothic Revivalist style, which makes it look sort of like a Batman coloring book. Fisherman’s Bastion got its name from the fact that it was always manned by fishermen, who were rarely effective fighters, but did well enough that Buda Castle never fell in the middle ages.
They were charging admission to walk the 20 foot ramp to the top of Fisherman’s Bastion, then walk back down it again. I passed.
Across the bridge was Budapest’s oldest castle, Vajdahunyad Vara. It shared a lake with Heroes’ Square, which was a sort of Parthenon for Hungarian culture heroes like King Matthias and St. Stephen.
Among them is a bust of Bela Lugosi.
Tumblr media
This wasn’t an approved statue. There was an empty alcove on the castle’s exterior, so a German artist named Hartmut Zech took a trip to Budapest and he and his friends hid it there in the middle of the night.
Zech has done this kind of thing before. He made a bust of Jim Morrison and used a baby stroller to push it into the cemetery where Morrison is buried. That was removed before the week was out. But the Budapest authorities came to the castle, saw the bust, shrugged, and just kind of left it. So there it remains.
Tumblr media
i activated this hedge and learned double jump
Across the river from my hostel, in Gellért Hill, there’s a church in a cave. It once belonged to yet another local saint, St. Ivan, who used thermal water to heal the sick. The same pools he used now flow into the Gellért Thermal Baths, which I’m going to go check out and get healed by when I get around to it.
Tumblr media
It sure was a church in a cave. They gave me a headset for an audio tour. It was not optional.
I can’t stand audio tours. Just give me a plaque or a reference booklet. It’s like opening an article, then learning that it’s only a youtube video, so you immediately close the article. I can read exponentially faster than your voice actor can talk, I don’t care if they’re auctioneering. Let me learn shit on my own and get on with my life.
Not only was I subjected to an absolutely draaaaaagging audio presentation about what turned out to be a panoply of Roman Catholic wood carvings, it veered off into explaining chunks of Catholic dogma like the Sacred Heart of Jesus. What’s unusual is, it wasn’t explaining it informatively. It was explaining it sort of like an affirmation, because it was clearly operating under the assumption that you wouldn’t be in this saints cave church unless you, yourself, were Catholic, and Jesus is our Lord, and the Sacred Heart represents our need not to just acknowledge Jesus’ actions but also his inner thoughts and motivations that led him to being such a fuckin’ bang-up messiah and all this other culty shit I learned in childhood and repressed.
For a reason!
There was a projector running upstairs. The movie showed slow-motion videos of happy children running while piano-led Hungarian covers of Imagine Dragons songs played in the background. Then it shifted to a cabal of priests, all decked out in clerical vestments, telling the appropriated Native American “two wolves live within us” story next to a waterfall.
Have you ever seen a clergyman in full finery hanging out on a hiking trail, let alone seven of them? It’s incredibly bizarre. There’s something viscerally wrong about seeing them all gussied up outside of a church, just prowlin’ around in the woods with God’s ballroom gown dragging behind them.
Tumblr media
For dinner, I opted to try the For Sale ruin pub. It’s covered in papers, and you can add to them if the spirit moves you.
Tumblr media
I got a menu from a waitress and sat at a table for five minutes, but no one came near me. This was just as well, since all the food was a minimum of 4000FT ($15), and the place was crawling with bugs. If you looked at a light, you could see dozens of little gnats and flies buzzing around like dust motes.
I left the menu and approached the bar, whereupon the bartender disappeared into the back room and never returned. I gave her a few minutes, then decided an overpriced lager full of spiders didn’t sound ideal and left.
Tumblr media
fuckin viennese
I eventually scavenged a porter and some Hungarian ratatouille at an underground hipster bar. I know it was a hipster bar because of the Transformers decals on the wall, and the waiter’s preposterous waxed mustache.
Tumblr media
The vegetables were a godsend. I’m a carnivorous dude, but I’m also fairly in tune with my flesh prison, and three days of nothing but sausage fat and fried potatoes leaves you feeling lethargic, ponderous, and sort of undead.
I’d been staving off scurvy with supermarket fruit juice, but even that proves to be a challenge when you’re functionally illiterate. I’ve been flagging down locals and saying, “Excuse me, this giant word next to 100%, is it ‘juice’?”
They think it’s funny, but it’s not. It’s very serious.
Tumblr media
All right, I’ve written so much that WordPress’s shitty word processor is starting to arbitrarily reformat and delete what I’ve already put down, so that’s my cue. See you soon.
Love,
The Bastard
