Good Omens Graphic Novel Masterpost ❤ 🐍😊
(you know how I like doing masterposts :)🥰 - I will update the masterpost as the kicstarter updates ❤)
What is Good Omens: the Official (and Ineffable) Graphic Novel?
The Good Omens: the Official (and Ineffable) Graphic Novel is the upcoming adaptation of the glorious 1990 Good Omens novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman in a graphic novel form. The adaptation is done by the talented Colleen Doran who worked with Neil on several other of his projects such as Chivalry, The Sandman, or Snow, Glass, Apples. The adaptation done under the gentle eyes of both Neil Gaiman and the Terry Pratchett Estate so don't worry that it will be unfaithful <3.
How can I help/join/pre-order?

Video by Neil, Colleen and Rob :)
Rob Wilkins: Judgment day is almost upon us. One angel, one demon want to do something about it, but there's the small problem of the missing Antichrist.
Neil Gaiman: The good Omens Kickstarter - we've got a fabulous, glorious, amazing adaptation of Good Omens waiting for you in graphic novel form.
Rob: Neil Gaiman was the first person, the first journalist to interview Terry after the publication of The Colour of Magic. They stayed friends and Neil met Terry again and discussed the idea of this novel that he had that he really ought to get written down and he sent the idea through to Terry and a little while later Terry called him back and said: you bastard I want that idea for myself, and Terry offered to either buy the idea or to work with Neil on the project, and as Neil said at the time it would be like Michelangelo calling saying: here give me a hand to paint this ceiling, so of course Neil and Terry worked on it together.
Colleen Doran: Hi and welcome to my studio. I am pleased and excited beyond words to talk to you tonight about Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's good Omens the graphic novel adaptation. You have no idea how happy I am to be working on this aside from the fact that I get to sit around and draw Azirphale and Crowley all day and who wouldn't want that - oh this is fun this is pure candy and I'm working very very hard to bring you a faithful adaptation. I love this book I love this project and bringing it to you is pure joy. Thanks a lot for your support. Thank you.

i wanna talk about this scene because its one of my favourite character moments for both aaron and neil. theyve just gotten to the cabin, only a handful of days after nathans death, and aaron gets neil alone and says this:
now listen. maybe what aaron is doing here is exactly what it looks like. maybe he is concerned that neil is exploiting andrew, and this is him being a protective brother. and i do think theres a part of him that is. he could also be reacting badly due to homophobia, and maybe a part of him is too. but mostly -
he's testing neil.
see, aarons not totally heartless. in that moment in baltimore, when neil was bloody and beaten to shit - aaron was horrified with the rest of them. he might not like neil particularly much, but when you see someone you moderately dislike tortured past the point of human endurance, youre going to put aside your dislike for a second. youre going to take their side, and aaron does. when the foxes claim neil, aaron is right up there with them.
but unlike neil and andrew, who spend the next few days in the emotional wringer with the feds, aaron had several days to process. to really process what allison pointed out to them.
and he realized he could use it.
maybe thats callous of him, but mostly its inevitable; this is how the twins have learned to communicate, to leverage each other with bribes and threats. he watched andrew nearly kill kevin, pick a fight with the feds, grip neils hoodie like he might disappear if he didnt hold on tight enough, and he understood that there was nothing andrew wouldnt do for neil.
meanwhile, neil is still coming off of weeks of telling himself, gritted teeth, its fine so long as andrew doesnt care about me, its fine so long as andrew doesnt care about me, its fine so long as andrew doesnt care about me...
hes barely begun to acknowledge the much less dangerous fact that he has feelings for andrew. less dangerous because if andrew doesnt care about him, then neils death wont hurt him, and neils feelings cant be hurt if hes the one that dies. but if andrew has feelings for him, then this whole time hes been risking that his death would break andrew - break the very person he most wants to protect.
so neil denies it. hes made the first wobbly step towards freedom, but he hasnt yet dealt with the moriyamas. he could still die at any moment. wrapping his head around his fathers death hasnt given him enough time to break those weeks of conditioning himself in the dark. andrew doesnt care about me. andrew cant care about me. neil will go to war for andrew but the idea that the converse is true is too dangerous to look at directly. to protect andrew, to protect himself, he denies it.
but when aaron asks neil if andrew will fight for him, he's not really asking. we can see it in the casual way he shrugs off neils denial. he doesnt care what neil says. he wants to see what neil does. he already knows - or has a pretty strong bet - what andrew will do. what he needs to know is if neil is serious.
listen, i am personally of the belief that if andrew released aaron from his deal for neils sake and then things went sour with neil, andrew would respect the broken deal anyway. but i dont think aaron sees that - he hasnt yet fully internalized that andrew does things out of his own brand of fairness, and not out of malice. so he needs to know; andrew will fight for this. will neil?
so he lobs a grenade at neil, a loaded accusation, and neil comes back swinging. and theres aarons answer. neil isnt exploiting andrew, hes not just playing around. hes as viciously protective of andrew as andrew is of him and those two repressed assholes might not be saying it with words, but aarons not stupid. andrew gave himself away when neil went missing and now neils showed his hand too.
neils right. he has been had, and hes just lucky that what aaron wants is exactly what neil wanted anyway.

Cherry, Cherry 🍒 Chapter 8 🍒
"Fooled Around and Fell in Love"
pre-outbreak! AU!Joel Miller x f!Reader
Word count: 1,807
Summary: a mini getaway brings you closer to Joel, and you reach a new level of your budding relationship.
WARNINGS: 18+ Only! Mature and Explicit, age gap (reader is 18, Joel is 35), adult language, brief mention of someone unaliving herself (told in a local legendary tale), breast/nipple play, thigh riding, hand job, mutual confessions of love, reader's race not mentioned, takes place in summer 2003, no use of y/n
Author’s Note: I admit I don't know much about the terrain of Austin that well, but Mount Bonnell is real as is the Colorado River, so any mistakes are my own and purely for fictional purposes anyway. The legend that Joel tells the reader is very loosely based on a story my grandfather told me when I was a kid. I once went on a date with a guy who took me to a cemetery because he thought it was a romantic place, and that gave me the idea for Joel telling that downer story lol. If I missed any tags please let me know!
Series Masterlist
You're on cloud fucking nine.
No one has ever made you feel this way, as if you're brand-new, abundant with promise, with new chances. The little moments you spend with Joel are marked upon your young heart. And you do spend little moments together: he comes by the cafe for coffee before work or after, and the times you hang out with Sarah at the Miller house, you find that Joel hangs out as well, adding himself as an awkward part of the group, until Sarah asks him to leave. You have to hide your smile when he leaves, or risk your secret being blown.
One late Saturday afternoon he picks you up from work in his truck. It's a June night in the Texas hill country, and the sun sets its last golden rays of the day down upon the deep green hills on the horizon. The windows are down, radio blasting Neil Diamond tunes, especially since Joel has turned you on to his music. One of his hands is on the steering wheel and the other is in your lap. You trace the lines in the roughness of his palms, trace each broad finger, wonderingly, and when you look up you see the effect you have on him. Joel is turned on by any little way you touch him.
"Where are we going?" you ask, though honestly you could be driving to Hell itself and it would be just fine with you.
"Just wanna be alone with you for a little bit, sweetheart. Is that okay?" He looks over at you and you know you can't resist those deep brown eyes, the way the lines around them crinkle when he smiles.
"Fuck yeah," you grin, eliciting a wide smile from him.
He drives you up to Mount Bonnell, where you've never been, and your heart gallops to think that you're finally going to be alone with him. He drives you about halfway then insists on hiking the rest of the way.
"Joel, I've been on my feet all day," you pretend to pout at his suggestion.
"I'll carry you if I have to," he says with a wicked gleam in his eye. "But I do want you to see the view from up there." He offers his hand and you take it without delay.
Even though there's almost a twenty year age difference between you, you notice that Joel is quite agile, but you keep up with him, laughing at the freedom of the moment. His hand rests on your lower back when you slow down, and brings you close to his side, stopping for you to have a drink of water. "The view will be worth it, I promise," he says in that deep drawl you love so much.
And when you do reach the top, wiping the sweat from your forehead with your arm, the view takes your breath away. The evening sky is azure, with pink and violet cotton candy clouds stretching to infinity, and the earth touched with tinges of tangerine. Below, the Colorado River flows serenely. You and Joel stare in wonder: you watch the view and he watches you. His hand is in yours, and he pulls you close for an embrace. "It's gorgeous," you say at last.
"Not as gorgeous as you," he says with a twinkle in his eye. He leads you to sit upon a rock in the shade of an oak tree. "There's a legend about this place, that in the 1830s there was a young woman who leapt to her death to avoid being captured by men who'd killed her fiance."
You raise your head from where you'd been leaning on his shoulder. "That's actually pretty sad."
He nods solemnly. "Yeah.. I maybe should've saved that story for later."
You giggle and elbow him. "You really know how to ruin a romantic mood, old-timer."
"So you admit you're having a romantic time?" He brings his lips to your ear.
"I was," you retort.
"How can I remedy that?"
"Ten grand would do it, for my mental anguish," you continue the banter.
"Your check's in the mail," he says, his lips now on the soft part of your neck below your ear.
You let his kisses travel down your neck, giggling lightly at ticklish feel of his mustache on your sensitive skin. His hands wander across your chest, gently lifting your shirt to find the satin-smooth cups of your bra. Your breath hitches and your eyes flutter shut despite the stunning view before you. His fingers dip beneath your bra, his thumb grazing your nipples, softly teasing them to hardness. When you sigh he catches your lips in a kiss, his tongue tasting your mouth as your arms wrap around his neck. Your hand encourages his own under your shirt, and he squeezes your breast, eliciting a moan from your sweet lips.
A sudden rainstorm sweeps through, starting to soak both of you.
"Truck," you say breathlessly, both of you scrambling to your feet to get back to the vehicle. You shriek when he lifts you up, your legs wrapped around his waist as he brings you to the truck. Once inside, you're both wet, but you don't care, reaching for each other again in the dry safety of the truck that's become your only getaway for your secret romance.
In a blur of lust you take off your damp shirt, reveling in the carnivorous look on Joel's face. Next come off your shorts, and Joel's breathing becomes all but labored. Just in your panties and bra you kiss him, slowly, savoring his taste as his hands grip your waist. "I need you," you moan, and the excitement between you becomes electric. You climb onto his lap, writhing against him.
The rain beats down on the truck as the two of you discover each other, tasting the raindrops on each others' skin. Joel's shirt is off, his jeans pulled down. "There's something I want ya to do for me," he says.
A thousand thoughts come to mind. It could be anything. "And that would be..?"
"Take off your panties. I want to feel you, hot and wet on my thigh while I suck your nipples."
He has a way of saying things that make your insides light up, your cunt clenching as if he's already in there.
He holds you close, his large hands roaming your waist and your hips. "Is that okay?"
"Yeah," you whisper. Keeping your eyes on him you remove your panties, sliding the fabric down your legs, tossing them to the floor of the truck. His hungry gaze goes to the V where your thighs meet, and he guides you to his thigh, groaning when your hot wet cunt settles on his skin. You feel why he would like this, and begin to move a little to ease the ache he's built up in you. He lets you do as you wish, whatever makes you feel good.
"That's good," he whispers his seductive encouragement. "Just rub yourself on me, sweetheart. Fuck yourself on me."
Your eyes close and with your arms around his neck you move, seeking that friction on your clit that will make you see stars. And just as you get into a nice rhythm Joel reaches behind you and deftly removes your bra, gently moving the straps down your arms as you drop them to your sides. When he uncovers your breasts his breath hitches. He cups them in both his wide palms, rubbing his thumbs over your nipples as he did earlier, and bringing his lips to each puckered pebble, then lapping his tongue over one while softly tweaking the other, testing your limits, grazing your delicate flesh with his teeth. The faster you move the harder he pulls at you, his hands splayed on your back, keeping you pressed to him.
You palm him through his underwear, familiarizing his shape with your hands. His girth and length are intimidating, but in this moment you don't have to worry about taking him inside of you. Not yet. You stroke him as he removes himself from his briefs, loving the groans he makes, the way his cock seems to grow harder by the second, jerking under your touch. You use the beads of precum on his tip to lubricate him, caressing him with longer, stronger strokes.
The car windows fog up with the steam of your gasps and sighs. You grab at the back of his head, cradling it to you as he continues worshipping your breasts.
"Joel! Joel!" you whisper his name in a frenzy of euphoria, and then his thumb is on your clit, pressing gently, flicking, moving with you until you come, hips twitching as you convulse. At the same time you feel him come, his semen spilling over onto your hand, thick and warm. He smiles when he feels you've also left your own traces on his skin.
In those hazy moments after, you rest your head on his chest and he kisses your hair. The small space of the truck is scented with your musk and sweat. It's peaceful, and you feel closer to him than ever. Though you haven't technically had sex yet, you feel your innocence being chipped away at, and it's exciting. For the first time you're in control of what you do.
"You can't be real," he says, his voice breaking the silence that blankets you both. "You gotta be some fantasy that I dreamed up, or some kinda angel."
"I am. You died and this is heaven," you joke, kissing his neck.
You don't even hurry to get dressed. The rain has slowed to a drizzle but there's no rush for you to leave.
"You comin' over tonight? Thought maybe we could watch a movie.. you, me, and Sarah."
"Really? I'd like that." You love the sweetness he has after the intense passion you've just shared.
"I gotta drop you off at your car. Once I'm able to catch my breath, and once I've got feelin' back in my legs I'll drive you back."
You chuckle, kissing along his collarbone. "But what if I'm not done with you yet?" Oh, the scent of his skin drives you wild.
"Jesus, sweetheart," he chuckles low. "I think I love you.."
You look up quickly, your body buzzing with excitation, disbelief daring to poison the beautiful night you've just had. "You.. what?"
His eyes are soft as he cups your face, gently brushes your hair from your face. He studies every feature, committing everything to memory. "I. Love. You." He emphasizes each word with a kiss: on your forehead, nose, lips.
It's the first time you've ever heard it said to you, and the first time you've ever felt it right to say it back. "Joel Miller, I love you too.."

The Clarkesworld AI Spam issue is one of those stories that to me really highlights the limits of the tools that hype is obscuring. Clarkesworld is a well-established Sci-Fi publishing magazine that today had to suspend all of its submissions due to being overwhelmed by ChatGPT generated entries:
This inspired a lot of discourse around the idea of a ‘crisis of credibility’ on the internet, AI sweeping away the boundries of authenticity in a flood of forgeries. How can magazines even operate in this new environment, one might ask?
Which is weird because this environment isn’t new at all, as the editor, Neil Clarke, comments on in his blog post around the problem:
Since the early days of the pandemic, I’ve observed an increase in the number of spammy submissions to Clarkesworld. What I mean by that is that there’s an honest interest in being published, but not in having to do the actual work. Up until recently, these were almost entirely cases of plagiarism, first by replacing the author’s name and then later by use of programs designed to “make it your own.”
The issue isn’t that spam exists, its the quantity:
This is undoubtably a gigantic spike, and 100% it is induced by ChatGPT.
But hold on - is ChatGPT actually *better* at this that previous spam tools? Niel doesn’t think so, even if he is worried about the future:
I’m not going to detail how I know these stories are “AI” spam or outline any of the data I have collected from these submissions. There are some very obvious patterns and I have no intention of helping those people become less likely to be caught...
... What I can say is that the number of spam submissions resulting in bans has hit 38% this month. While rejecting and banning these submissions has been simple, it’s growing at a rate that will necessitate changes. To make matters worse, the technology is only going to get better, so detection will become more challenging.
And how expensive was the plagarism before to do anyway? It was copy-pasting text, automated word replacement programs, and done, that is trivial. Its a little harder than ChatGPT, sure, but you could make a thousand in a day no sweat, automated scripts randomizing names and jumbling nouns from a list.
The success rate also seems to be zero! Neither plagarism nor ChatGPT generates any story worth a damn, these aren’t being accepted. Neil is quite confident he is catching 100% of them and I believe him on that, these tools cannot write good fiction of any length beyond a paragraph.
So what is the ChatGPT’s advantage over previous, ‘dumber’ spam that justifies a 100-fold increase in spam usage? I am not seeing one, and I don’t think there is one besides marginally lower per-spam costs. Phrased another way, what was stopping someone from submitted 500 spam entries in one month in 2021? Nothing but interest in doing so.
Which is the rub of why this is happening - it isn’t because ChatGPT is good at this task, its because its the hype thing to do. Everyone is talking about it, everyone is trying it out, everyone is trying to find “delta” so they can ride the hype train. A bunch of people, some who may have even had axes to grind against Clarkesworld, have heard of this brand new fun tool and are flooding into the market to take advantage of it. But there might not be much to take advantage of; hype is fleeting, particularly in the face of no results as this effort is getting. As it fails, unless that axe really needs grinding above all else, spammers will move.
All of this to say that this story is, again, not a story about AI at all. AI is just the reason these already-bad parts of the system are being tested in the public eye.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is the newest franchise in development for the PlayStation 5 console from Naughty Dog, the studio behind acclaimed series like The Last of Us and Uncharted. Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet puts players into the role of Jordan A. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.
Message from Neil Druckmann
You have been dying to know what’s next for us, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to answer: Naughty Dog’s next game is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, currently in development for the PlayStation 5 console. We’ve been working on this brand-new adventure since 2020! This game is shaping up to be our wildest, most creative story yet. If you haven’t already, check out the announcement trailer. Intergalactic stars our newest protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria—a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit. Beyond that, we’re keeping everything about the story under wraps—at least for now. What we can tell you is that this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey. Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions. This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we’ve ever done before. Jordan is played by the talented Tati Gabrielle, who leads a stellar cast (pun intended!). Eagle-eyed players might spot some of the other cast members in the trailer. We’ll reveal more of our ensemble down the line. Our incredible voyage into the cosmos also needs an equally incredible soundtrack. As tremendous fans of their work, I’m excited to announce our collaboration with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross who’ll be scoring Intergalactic! The guys are cooking, and the trailer is just a small tease of their work for the game. We know you’re eager for more—and trust us, we’re very eager to share more with you. For now, though, it’s time to put our heads back down and keep cranking away on Jordan’s adventure. On behalf of the entire team at Naughty Dog, thank you to all our fans! Your support allows us to work on our dream games, bringing these wonderful new worlds and characters to life. We can’t wait to show you more! See you on the other side, Neil Druckmann Naughty Dog Studio Head

As a public librarian whose own library’s marketing is, not to put too fine a point on it, garbâge, I have to ask: How did y’all manage to get a tumblr account?? Our communications dept would *never* let us be that cool.
It went kind of like 'Hey. We should do more reader's advisory. It's great social media *checks notes* uh, content. Should be a blog since it's long form writing. No, I can manage it, it fits in my task list. Have you heard of Tumblr? No? Well it would be perfect, and it's free. Approved? Greatthanksbye!'
And then I ran and they haven't caught me yet.
Much longer answer under the cut, in case you're looking for tips to convince coms ⬇️
I'm the person who manages all of our online marketing, so I really only had to ask the director. The words "I'll manage it myself, no additional staff time" were also magical since... well, I'm the social media manager, they know I'm good for it (and that I'm not going to post something the library is going to have to make an embarrassed press release about later.)
The way I made the case for tumblr was by saying it's a spot to host staff recs/reviews that's not character limited, and we can link back to it from all of our other social media platforms. Our website isn't set up for blog-style posts so making a new page every time we wanted to rec a book would be hugely obnoxious. Plus tumblr's tagging system aids in discovery (you know, in theory) in a way our website couldn't.
Even if our book rec posts don't get many notes here on tumblr (they don't, with a few exceptions) posts with links back to tumblr do pretty well on our other platforms. So our benchmarking for tumblr doesn't look great on its own but it does improve our stats elsewhere, so it's worth keeping on - especially since the overhead on staff time is very low. Staff send in their book recs and reviews when they have something to say and a little time to write it up, no strict schedule or deadlines. I take care of all the formatting, proofreading, graphics, scheduling, and tagging myself.
Obviously we're doing more than just our rec posts - reblogging and answering asks and replying to posts where relevant, plus the occasional one-off non-book-rec post. Which is all, you know. Just being on tumblr. Gotta do our bit to keep the tumblr ecosystem healthy. If you want to convince a marketing department that's worthwhile, then it's raising brand awareness.
(Plus I really like tumblr and keeping the social media manager happy when she has to spend eight hours a day looking at the kind of nonsense people say to libraries on Facebook other social media sites is worth its weight in gold, though I may be biased. But getting to manage the tumblr at work is sort of like an oasis in my day.)
And then sometimes Neil Gaiman reblogs an addition we made on his post and suddenly everyone at work is very excited that someone has kept up the tumblr for all these years :D

aftg characters and athletic brands
jorts are not being considered as Athletic clothing here, thank you
neil: all of his clothes are different brands. he’ll walk out of the dorm with adidas socks, under armour shirt, nike shoes, and some pair of unidentifiable shorts. he def mainly wears nike.
Andrew: adidas and that’s the ONLY one. he’s got the whole collection in black
Kevin: dawg is SUCH a nerd when it comes to athletic clothing (and i appreciate that). despite his organized tendencies, he buys each individual item based on its performance instead of looks. he’ll get long distance running shoes from hoka, shirts from Nike, socks from under armour, etc because that’s what fits his performance needs. he definitely gets lululemon shorts when he goes pro
Matt: NEW BALANCE!!!! he gets the retro looking shorts and the dad shoes. (he’s training for the future by breaking those shoes in)
Nicky: he wear lululemon and i feel like i shouldn’t have to elaborate on that. it’s higher end and more “trendy” him and Allison go on hot girl walks with their lulu Fanny packs
Renee: asics for sure. i feel like she’s also a tennis girlie (she would just slay a tennis skirt/ dress okay) they have a good collection of those and other athletic stuff.
aaron: he doesn’t really care. he just wears what katelyn tells him he looks good in tbh. katelyn feels like one of those people that doesn’t typically stick with one brand, so aaron wears a variety of brands. this being said, he’s probably surprisingly trendy (he doesn’t notice this tho)
Dan: she’s a champion girlie. she rocks the sweatpants and top/biker short sets like NO OTHER!!! the sets are good for running, lifting, biking, and look good with pullovers/sweat pants. Dan also probably wears adidas, especially their shoes. outside of athletic brands, she definitely only wears short socks
Allison: she wears lululemon exclusively. she’s got the shorts, swiftly techs, and pullovers in every color. she wears the brightest colors the most. Allison pulls it off and looks VERY intimidating in the bright colors cause it makes her stand out EVEN MORE
Jean: dawg is an under armour guy PERIOD. NO ARGUMENTS. i can’t explain this one exactly but i feel it in my bones. he’s just an under armour guy, okay??? he loves their compression tights and sleeves.
Jeremy: dawgs closet is just a mess. he doesn’t know what he’s shopping for half the time and pulls the colors he likes off the rack. he definitely really likes gym shark clothes
Wymack: he wears whatever is sponsoring the teams jerseys and practice clothing. coach is just consistent like that

Today, soft andreil morning mini drabble. Tomorrow, who knows.
If it were any other person sleeping and fidgeting in their sleep, Andrew would never be able to get more than 10 minutes of consecutive sleep while sharing a bed with them. But this was Neil. "i learned to stay still and small and curled up in my sleep through years of survival" Neil. But Andrew always woke up before Neil. He never got out of bed though. After years of denying himself happiness and getting creative in not allowing himself things, Andrew was changing. At the pace of a dying snail, but still more than he'd like to admit. It was the effect of Neil Josten, the infuriatingly peaceful figure sleeping next to him.
Andrew always had a choice. Even when the situation seemed so inescapable that it threatened to make his sense of control crumble, he still forcibly created the space to choose. He had to. So ultimately, choosing Neil had been a decision he made. On purpose. And that decision had been the first in a while where Andrew had chosen something (someone) because he wanted it. He wanted nothing in life. But Neil had been a very specific brand of nothing Andrew's mind had somehow latched onto.
So against his self sabotaging tendencies of denying himself things, Andrew had allowed himself this. Neil.
Then, everything went downhill from there.
It started with allowing himself Neil, then allowing the thing (the nothing) between him and Neil to grow, then allowing the silence between them on the rooftop. He allowed himself to stop time whenever it was just them. He allowed himself to chase the taste of Neil on stolen cigarettes. Allowed himself to peek over the precipice of a deep deep blue that peeked right back at him with a gaze that made Andrew's skin crawl.
Andrew could only compare it to a disease, spreading from Neil to every single aspect of his life. Andrew was never the one to opt for running away, that was Neil's thing. But he sure as hell did try.
He tried looking away from Neil's eyes whenever they held so many unsaid words that Andrew could painfully read so clearly, but every time he saw a shade of blue, he couldn't stop himself from comparing it to Neil's shade. He tried forgetting the taste of Neil's laughter that slithered down his throat whenever they kissed, but every time he indulged in his sweet tooth, he kept thinking how sweeter Neil's lips would taste. He tried to shake himself mentally by the shoulders every time he got more and more used to Neil's easy show of trust, to the point of familiarity, but he didn't really have it in him to resist it in the end. How could he, when Neil, skittish hissing raccoon Neil, was laying himself bare for Andrew.
So of course it could only go downhill because of Neil. He couldn't keep up with the things he had allowed himself to feel not so numb about.
So every morning, when Andrew woke up before Neil, he allowed himself to... be.
this morning ritual had made its way into Andrew's everyday routine:
Wake up. Check if Neil is in bed (he always is.) Blink away the sleepiness from his eyes so he can see Neil clearly. Stare at Neil. Stare at the slow flutter of his annoyingly long lashes. Stare at the curve of his nose. How it curves down on its sides to Neil's cheeks. Stare at the tiny shadows cast by Neil's scars there. Stare at the long whitening scar going down all the way to his lips. Stare at Neil's lips. Stare at the bitten edge of his lower lip. Stare at his slightly stubbling chin. Then breathe.
Andrew usually falls asleep again after this little routine. But other times, like today, he feels rested enough to stay awake until Neil arises. So he repeats that little routine. Over and over and Over no matter how long it takes for Neil to wake up. He counts the times he repeats it. he makes sure to end on a number ending in 0 or 5. Even if Neil wakes up before he reaches a multiple of 5, he will keep going while pointedly ignoring the effect of Neil's morning voice on him.
Today, he'd reached 31 by the time Neil was waking up.
Neil's eyelids flew open, found Andrew, then relaxed, like every morning.
32...
Neil's chest rose and fell as he took a deep breath that sounded more like a fulfilled sigh.
33...
the morning sun bounced off Andrew right into Neil's eyes, making their blue impossibly lighter. His skin creased around their edges as he sleepily smiled at him and said "Hi."
...
34...
Andrew watched Neil's pupils change size and adjust to the light as he slowly blinked, unmoving.
35.
"Hi," Andrew finally responded.
It was only then that Neil sat up and stretched his arms, energy beginning to buzz under his skin as soon as he was up. Andrew didn't thin about how Neil knew not to get up in the morning until Andrew responded. Andrew didn't think that despite Neil's early stock of energy, he stayed still until Andrew greeted him, until he was done with his morning ritual that he had never told Neil about.
He saw his brain branching into two paths: the mortifying ordeal of being know, and the rewards of having someone who cares. He didn't have to think long about it, because Andrew knew that when it came down to Neil, the latter always won.
He mirrored Neil's position and they exchanged breakfast suggestions in quiet morning voices.

Why “Plastic Beach” is a Masterpiece
I think something lost in a lot of music is an understanding of story. Music stemmed from the need to tell stories through verbalized communication that extended beyond speech. Morals, teachings, beliefs, were all told through stories, and then translated into song. Music is not music without the element of story. Even the simplest chord, can make one feel a thousand things.
It’s 2010 and I had recently moved into a new house. My parents played an album that I didn’t recognize while we are moving furniture into our new home. It had a very different sound from the normal Lumineers, Radiohead, Mumford and Sons, and Neil Diamond I was used to hearing played prevalently in my youth. “The revolution will be televised” ringing in my ears and I remember feeling a beat, very casual yet meaningful play that, even then, I knew was something deeper than one would think at first glance.
Even then, I knew something of a masterpiece was at work. See, what makes “Plastic Beach” by Gorillaz work is its asymmetrical narrative. The album starts with a fully orchestrated “overture” (if you will) that’s very rare in a predominately hip-hop album. This is what I liked to call “natural” music. All the notes are played like by instrumentalists through natural means. Yet, the album ends with completely electronic music. “Pirate Jet”, the finale, has very few real instruments playing in the song.
But, why is this important? Well, because “Plastic Beach” tells the story of a world where our beaches are filled with plastic, water pollution makes a man a giant, and the industry music is synthetic and fake. While a man, Russel (the drummer for the band), becoming huge cannot happen in the real world, a lot of the ideas and concepts mentioned within “Plastic Beach” are a perfect representation of the dangers of the modern day. The asymmetrical sound of this album represents the natural world (non-electronic music) and the polluted fake world (all electronic music). And slowly but surly, the entire album end’s completely electronic.
However, this is not a testament against certain genres of music. Gorillaz is very well known for a beautiful blend of electronic and traditional instruments within their music. So why choose this as an allegory? Well I liked to use my favorite song ever, that just so happens to be in this album, Melancholy Hill, to explain why.
Melancholy Hill explores the fake and synthetic world of the modern day music industry. While it’s gotten better over the last decade, when the album came out it was near impossible to do well within the industry if you weren’t conventionally attractive, used certain styles, and branded yourself a certain way. Obviously, there were outliers in this statement, however, I would argue that they had to work three times as hard to get where other big names at the time were. And many of these big names… didn’t make what Damon Albarn, co-creator of Gorillaz, saw as music. The lyrics were seen as nonsensical and two-dimensional and the music hardly used any music theory let alone skill within its works. It sounded fake. So, instead of bashing all electronic or pop music, he created a masterpiece that blended everything. Melancholy Hill uses both electronic and traditional music within the song, showing that neither music style should be ignored. A blend of both truly is perfect, in a certain way. Many of the best songs: Empire Ants, Rhinestone Eyes, Stylo, Broken, etc. on the album use this technique of mixing styles, and I think that was very intentional.
Everything above comes together to tell us this story: Technology and the modern world can be used to be create amazing and beautiful things. But, representing naturalistic ideas and our Earth which gives us life, is key to prosperity. We must protect it at all costs… and “Plastic Beach” by Gorillaz is the masterpiece that says it best.

HC that one day while he’s on his way back from Abby’s house, Wymack finds an abandoned puppy in the middle of the road.
It’s late and he looks hurt so Wymack rushes back to Abby’s so she can look at him. He has an injury on his back leg, probably from getting hit by a car and he is full of fleas. They give him a thorough bath, the water running brown from mud and dead fleas. Despite that, the puppy doesn’t seem bothered by the water in the slightest and even ends up splashing water all around Abby’s bathroom, which makes her laugh.
She treats his wound and the puppy falls asleep in Wymack’s arms as she wraps a bandage around his leg. She smiles fondly at them but he gruffly tells her he’s not keeping him. He’ll go to the vet the next day and leave the puppy there, so don’t get attached Abby dammit.
She takes a photo when he isn’t watching.
They end up spending the night at Abby’s, not really sleeping considering the puppy decided to claim Abby’s bed as his own too and stretched its entire length over the blanket the entire night.
Wymack takes the dog to the vet in the first hours of the morning, telling the Foxes through their group chat that Dan will lead practice for the day as he won’t be able to come. He tells Abby to say goodbye to the puppy before they go, but he’s holding him in his arms and Abby laughs when he pulls up in front of her house an hour later with the puppy happily prancing behind him as best as he can with a thick bandage around his injured leg, a brand new collar around his neck as Wymack carries a puppy bed and toys inside. He grumbles at Abby and she just pats his shoulder. As it turns out, the puppy is a two months old belgian malinois, he is in very good health except for the wound on his leg but it will heal just fine. Abby asks if he picked a name yet and Wymack says no. He wasn’t even supposed to keep him. She rubs the dog between both ears and helps Wymack carry a bag of dog food inside.
She doesn’t comment on it but her heart suddenly feels very warm at the prospect of them visiting often enough to leave stuff at her own place.
The next day, Wymack shows up to practice with the puppy following behind and trying to murder his leash. When the Foxes see him, they all melt. Dan asks for his name and Wymack says he doesn’t have one. Neil immediately suggests calling him Exy, but then gets an exasperated look from everyone except Kevin who is too busy greeting him and getting his hand licked. Neil thinks it would be a great name but then throws his hands up in the air when the Foxes and Wymack firmly say no again.
Wymack tells everyone now is not the time to coo around a puppy so he starts practice for the day but it is very quickly interrupted by the puppy chasing after the balls and running around after everyone.
Practice that day is catastrophically unproductive until the puppy is too tired to keep up so he goes lay down next to Wymack for a much deserved nap.
It’s the middle of the week, but everyone goes to Abby’s after their classes to play with the puppy and try to find him a name. Neil grumbles Exy would be perfect and only gets a smile from Renee.
No one can decide on a name yet but they all agree this is now the official team dog.
#I'm picturing Kevin slamming the ball at Andrew and before Andrew can intercept it the dog just jumps out of nowhere to snatch it#poor Neil will never get to call the dog Exy because everyone is against him#all for the game#aftg#aftg headcannon#david wymack#abby winfield

April and y/n we’re both in the same robotics class, in-fact thats how they became friends last year, having classes with each other!
Last year it was mathematics
lets just say you aren’t the best at math but you’re passing!!!
“Hey Y/n wanna have a sleepover at my place? I got a new game we can play”
“Ill buy the pizza?”
“mhmm”
“Bet! im down for a sleepover!!”
You high five each other, then the conversation turns to code. You help each other in the class and then head to your next period.
The day was going great
but when night came things kinda got out of hand
You walked to April’s house, bag in hand.
*knock* *knock* *knock*
Mrs O’ Neil opens the door and greets you happily, she allows you in her house and you thank her kindly.
You walk into the living room, setting your bag down by the couch. April comes out of her room and hugs you, she holds up the game only for you to be surprised! It was the brand new (Fav game)
You squealed in excitement with april and you both sat on the couch, ready to play.
At around 3AM you and april were still playing the game, what can you say it was good!!!
But then you heard some strange knocking on her window, you both turned and looked before april laughed and said
“Oh its probably the shutters, let me go fix them!”
You kept your eyes trained on her as she opened the window, you turned back to the tv but then heard…shouting??? you turned back confused, whose she talking to?
“Everything okay april?” you ask, curiously
She nods and shouts a “YES! Yes! totally fine!”
you hear two people mumbling, someone saying “quit shoving!” and then BAM four turtles humanoid things fall into the living room through the window
“uh” *laugh* “I didnt know we were having company april”
Thats how you met the turtles, and you all hung out for the rest of the month
You all played games
went out on missions
and even had movie nights together!
but then suddenly
they shut you out, only to hangout with you when April was around, and they didnt want you going down to the lair anymore
“We’re just really busy”
“Donnie blew up the place, again”
“There’s paint everywhere!”
“I spilt a very dangerous chemical”
They always had some sort of excuse but even then April was still allowed down, why weren’t you?
They ignored you all of the second month.
It was just you and april and honestly, you missed them, the adventures, all of it!
And then then now
all contact with them ceased, they didn’t respond to texts or calls.
April was still hanging out with you, you had both gone to a skating rink on the 23rd
What you failed to notice was that you two weren’t alone
Cassandra and her two leaders were there too
on a stake out
They watched closely as you conversed with an associate of the turtles, they figured if you know her you have to be a threat too!
They will remember your face
they dont forget one c:
As you and April were walking home the topic of the turtles came up
and obviously you had asked why they were avoiding you, if anyone knew the answer it had to be her! right?
April had looked at you sadly “I don’t know, I even asked about it and all they did was give me vague answers like ‘I dont trust her’ ‘shes no good’ etc” she looked down and so did you
“well at least I kinda know why now” You laugh sadly
she smiles at you “but we’ll stay friends, dont worry”
you smile back
You both wave goodbye and walk the opposite way from each other, heading home. You checked your watch, 12:30 it said
Boy were you glad it was a weekend
Walking home would take you about an hour
but you weren’t alone
Or at least you felt like you weren’t, it was unsettling to say the least.
As you turned around a corner you found yourself face to face with two guys who had fire on their heads and a girl who, if looks could kill, was glaring at you like you had a death wish.
Now you had no clue who these people were but you stumbled back, knowing this could be dangerous, you got up but as soon as you did so, all you saw was black, Cassandra had knocked you out with one single hit, crazy huh?
You woke up the next morning, Chained up to a chair in what seemed to be an old warehouse, now this was truly crazy, why were you here? what did they want from you?
You looked around trying to find an escape, trying to find anything that will help you.
Thats when the dude who was skinny and had flames coming out from his head entered the room.
He started interrogating you
“Where are the turtles?”
“Wheres their base?!”
“what are their weaknesses”
etc
You honestly were just in shock by everything happening that you didn’t answer, this caused him to get mad and stomp out
You were stuck here for a bout 3 weeks, hoping April and your parent(s) put missing posters up and that someone will find you.
With the turtles
April had come into the lair a week after you went missing and filled the brothers in, she was panicking, she didn’t know what to do, there was no sign of you
no sign of life
the talk of the town was ‘What happened to y/n’
After seeing April breakdown the boys knew this was serious, sure they don’t trust you, or probably like you
but they had their reasons (we’ll get to it)
Doesn’t mean they wont try and save you though
Donnie didn’t put a tracker on you, which meant this was going to be harder than normal.
So what else coul-
AHA! the NYC cameras!
Donnie looked through the cameras for 3-4 days!
He found you, he finally found you.
They had taken you off into a dirt path that lead to god knows where.
Once the brothers got to said path they all started walking, eventually making their way to the warehouse.
Raph bursts in and immediately takes notice of how quiet the place is, until they hear what sounds like chains? upstairs?
They rush up, checking every room and once they find you
they look on in shock
You looked tired, exhausted
You had been eating properly though
and it doesnt seem like they hurt you
but it looks like you have been awake for days
The foot brute walks in holding a tray as the brothers start undoing the chains
this starts a fight
The foot men are attacking at raph and leo
while Cassandra is fighting Mikey and Donnie
in the midst of this you come up with a way to get everyone out of here
The roof!
you grab Raphs arm, but he flinches and pulls away
you try with Leo but yet you get the same thing
you try again with Raph and this time he shoves you away and you retaliate by raising your voice and grabbing him again
“Can you please trust me?!”
he looks at you in shock
“just this once?”
Raph sighs
Once the foot is distracted Raph lets you lead him to the roof, his brothers following
As you guys are walking you whisper to Raph
“so…why do you guys suddenly not trust me”
all of them pause at this, then donnie flat out says
“we did a background check on you…”
they did what?! Sure you have stolen here and there but you never killed anyone!
“so me stealing things is a reason for you not to trust me?”
“of course! no rational person would trust a klepto!”
“Have you ever thought that people steal because they need too? not because they want too?”
this made everyone go silent
you sighed and shook your head
finally you reach the roof
and this is where ur plan plays out
You tell them to head down the ladder and they actually listen to you. Once they’re down you head back inside
Ignoring the fact they’re screaming at you
You sneakily make your way down to the basement, tiptoing to make sure no one hears you
Once there you find all the valves, water pipes, etc
and start turnin that shit!
pulling levers
flipping switches
pressing buttons
everything.
You then run out right before the place can explode
getting a few burns on the back of your arms
and as soon as you’re a safe enough distance away you pass out
You wake up in your own bed, April sitting next to you
she looks over and sees you’re awake and hugs you
she explains everything that happened
but you already knew
You tried texting the turtles but they didnt answer you
Even now they’re still pushing you away?
I guess the past does haunt you
Or maybe
they feel guilty they never trusted you.

I am once again thinking abt france/french in aftg bc so much potential also im french and i have thoughts (warning its 2:30 am and i will just be rambling on)
Idk how old was Jean when he was sold but unless he was like 2yo he tried local alcohol (we're french don't judge us i had my own tiny champagne glass by 4). Given that Neil went on the run at 10 let's say he was ten too. So for SURE his parents poured him at least small glasses of light alcohols occasionnally
And a very very know local alcohol in the south and Marseille is pastis which is anise based, you pour some pastis and mix it with water (so for a child you would put a lot of water and little pastis just for the taste).
One day while going for groceries he finds a bottle of Ricard (the biggest pastis brand) so, bc in my head he went to therapy and reconnects to his roots but not his family, he buys it bc he remembers and wants to try again ! He brings it to the Trojans and explains and they all try some and most just.... suffer through their glass (it IS a weird ass alcohol honestly i dont like it much) but jean ? He just remember warm summer nights and happiness that he finally gets his own (watered down) pastis glass
Also fucking PÉTANQUE i want to see jean teaching how to play pétanque to the Trojans.
#LZVSIZLF I JUST FOUND THIS IN MY DRAFTS#im posting it as is#honestly idk why i didnt post it when i wrote it ???#i dont even know why i thought of that ???#aftg#all for the game#tfc#the foxhole court#trk#the raven king#tkm#the king's men#jean moreau#neil josten#andrew minyard#kevin day#jeremy knox

It was very funny when Aziraphale revealed he keeps a gun in a hollowed out book in his shop, its very him but i think we all forgot to pay attention to the gun he has, a Derringer.
WHICH IS THIS LITTLE THING
But there were also multiple models throughout the years which Aziraphale doesn't specify which so lets look at the options:
First was this one
The Philadelphia Derringer (produced from 1852 through 1868) infamous for being used by assassins and for being the gun used to kill fucking Abraham Lincoln. It would be absolutely insane that this would be his gun of choice considering its history and how it would be a little less than a century old at this point in time. But also, very on brand of him owning a gun so out of date it would probably explode if he tried to use it (unless miracled of course)
Next, is this one
The Sharps Derringer (produced from 1859 through 1874) were very commonly used in the Old West and were called "Pepper Boxes" This could actually be the one he owns considering Neil revealed he wanted to have a flashback of Crowley and Aziraphale in the Old West that didn't manage to make it in. Running around in the Old West was dangerous, even for an angel, so not surprising he picked up some firepower even if it was just for show.
Finally, this one
The Remmington Derringer (produced from 1866 through 1935) was updated version of the previous one with more capacity and speed than the previous. A lot of these little babies got sold during this time so it wouldn't be out of place for Aziraphale to get one especially considering WWI had just happened a three decades earlier.
Overall, its still very funny to imagine Aziraphale trying to hold any of these tiny little guns much less use it and they all would be old as shit models which is so on brand for him it hurts.
(Thank you for reading my weird long rant about what gun Aziraphale might have owned lmao. Which one do you think he got?)
#good omens#good omens spoilers#is this a spoiler idk#crowley#aziraphale#aziracrow#tw gun image#tw gun#personally i want the philidephia one to be true bc itd be so fucking funny if he just has that old ass pepper shooter in 2023

Good Omens Season 2 - Overall Review
You know every now and then its nice to step outside of the echo chamber and get a fresh perspective on things. I've been looking at some negative reviews for GOS2 this evening after some critical comments came across my dash which was a surprise at first because my dash has otherwise been filled with GOS2 love and adoration (if perhaps also some odd theories floating around).
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it made me really consider mine, so I decided to write it down. I know I still have episode reviews for eps 2-6 to write up, which I will get to, but I needed to get this off my chest first. This is generally just a reaction post outlining all the things I liked and didn't like about GOS2. Under a cut because looooong.
I hadn't read the Good Omens book before I watched Season 1. I watched that show completely blind and my main reason for watching at the time was because
a) I'm always going to be a little bit in love with David Tennant and so watch absolutely everything he is in always no matter how horrible (Des was a particularly hard watch)
b) I had heard that GO was partially some of the original inspiration for Supernatural and I'll be a Supernatural slut til the end of time.
c) I love all things fantasy and it genuinely looked like a great show.
Whilst I loved the first season, the thing I loved about it, was Aziraphale and Crowley. I also very much enjoyed the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the Angels and Demons, and Anathama and Madam Tracey as characters.
I hated the kids. They were bloody awful and on every rewatch I have done in the past few years I have had to skip over their scenes. I find them completely unwatchable. I found Newt to be boring and Shadwell a pain in the ass. I don't find that particular brand of misogyny funny so his scenes are also just painful for me. I loathed the fact that he ended up with Madam Tracey in the end, AND that she changed who she was completely for him. What the FUCK was that all about?
Anyway, now that that is off my chest, the point I am making is that the only thing I really enjoyed about Good Omens was Crowley and Aziraphales love story plus a few of the awesome female characters they had helping them. I also enjoyed the quirky narration by God which I think had a distinctly Douglas Adam's feel to it (which I believe was the vibe Terry and Neil were going for at the time).
I have always been of the opinion that it was GOs faithfullness to the book which let it down. I read the book after watching the show and whilst it was a good book, it dragged on in parts, spent too long focusing on the kids, and Aziraphale and Crowley weren't quite as lovable in book format as they were brought to life by DT and MS. To me, the book was a 6/10, the show a 7/10. I was a fan of AziraCrow and their love story. I did not, and have not ever, believed they were "canon" in season 1 (though i was loathed to admit this due to the rabidity of the fandoms insistence that they were - which was spurred on by Gaiman much to his own detriment).
So when GOS2 came around I had no expectations that it would kick off with AziraCrow being all lovey dovey and shacked up - having confessed their love and living together as life partners - as I genuinely believe some GO fans expected to be the case - after all these are the fans that insisted it was canon in season 1! Surely that means they'll be together in season 2 right?
Well obviously that wasn't the case. First mistake for Neil Gaiman - maybe don't spend 4 years trying to convince your fanbase that these characters are already together and in love if you are going to write a whole second season revolving around the fact that they still aren't together.
I was also really worried when GOS2 was announced that they'd bring back the bloody kids, and Shadwell, and the other season 1 characters. I was very much relieved when I heard that wasn't the case. As much as I enjoyed Madam Tracey, she was ruined at the end of S1, and as much as I liked Anathama, I was very aware that her story was over the moment she burned the new prophecy book.
So going into Season 2, I was expecting and hoping for a few things:
The romantic development of AziraCrow from friends to lovers
More time with the angels and demons
A fun lesbian side story
Technically, I got all three things.
I am aware that GOS2 has its flaws. It's pacings a bit dodgy, and I do find some of the dialogue a bit jarring particularly in the Maggie and Nina scenes. The entire season has this slightly saccharine quality to it where I feel like if I watch it too many times too quickly I'll get sick from the sweetness. There needed to be a little bit more gruesomeness and angst to counteract all that sugar - Zombie Nazi's notwithstanding.
The Maggie and Nina mirrors to Aziraphale and Crowley were more heavy handed than in a season 8 MOTW episode of Supernatural. I've made that joke before, but it still stands. I wish that Neil had been a bit more subtle with it. As much as I like Maggie and Nina, they could have used a bit more development and a bit of distance from Zira and Crowley. I did find the scene where they sit down with Crowley at the end to basically tell him to get his shit together and tell Zira how he feels like something out of a fangirls dream. Does anyone remember that really OTT gay Hallmark style Christmas movie that came out last year? Single All The Way? Gods, when I first watched that movie I thought it was sweet, but it was so obviously taken from fanfiction that I couldn't take it seriously (I say this as someone who adores fanfiction and has huge respect for fanfiction writers - but we all start somewhere, and its usually as a teenager writing really sappy YAOI and that's what I feel inspired Single All The Way - side note: Trixie and Katya's review of Single All The Way is one of the funniest things I've ever watched, nothing like watching two drag queens absolutely destroy queer media that was absolutely NOT written with gay men in mind)). Anyway, I mention SATW because there is a scene towards the end of the movie where two teenage girls sit the protagonist down and tell him that he's an idiot who is clearly in love with his best friend and he should go confess his love before its too late.
Look I'm sure we've all had that fantasy. I know I did when it came to Destiel for years. Nothing better than picturing myself standing in the bunker shaking Dean Winchester by the shoulders yelling at him to go kiss Castiel because goddammit that angel needs to know he's loved!
It's a great fantasy. But I DO NOT want to EVER see it played out for real in ANY media. When I realised that this was exactly what was happening in GOS2 I curled up into a ball and screamed into my hands, and not in a good way. That was... bad. Someone slap Neil on the wrist for that terrible decision. There were a dozen better ways they could have explained the AziraCrow miscommunication issue.
Having said all this, everything else about GOS2 I adored. There is criticism about the minisodes. Sure, they are totally expansions on the popularity of Season 1's episode 3 opener, and are rather self indulgent and not really connected to the main Gabriel mystery, but they are each of them an absolute blast. They dig deeper into AziraCrow's relationship and help to understand a bit more of their dynamic and the underlying issues that they have been facing for their entire friendship.
I totally understand where people may criticise the Gabriel/Beelzebub romance coming out of left field as well. It was totally unexpected and yeah, sure, Gabriel was basically the villain of season 1, so I can understand the irritation and him getting to have a happy ever after love story when he has never even apologised to Zira. But I gotta be honest, I don't really care. I thought it was hilarious and a fun twist as well as well as a much more subtle narrative mirror to AziraCrow than Maggie and Nina were. You can accuse Neil of taking that idea from fans if you want, its totally possible that he came across some ineffable beurocracy fanart and thought huh, that could be fun. But I don't care if he did, or if it did come to him completely separately to the fans. I never shipped them, but I find it hilarious in the same way I find the Dean/Crowley ship in SPN hilarious. That went canon too, much to the horror of the entire SPN fandom. NO ONE ASKED FOR DROWLEY and yet they inflicted it on us anyway... I'll never quite get over that fact.
As for Aziraphale's characterisations. I disagree with everyone who says he was out of character. I love that he's still struggling with the idea of not being part of heaven. I love that he is still dealing with the millennia of abuse and brainwashing and manipulation. I love that he still hasn't quite grasped the tyranny and institutional corruption at Heaven's heart. I found the end of season 1 to be very satisfying in a lot of ways (other than the lack of handholding in the Ritz) but when I really think about it, Season 1 really doesn't resolve Zira's issues with Heaven. He get's discorporated, decides he doesn't want to fight, goes back to Earth and then he's dealing with the apocalypse and he never actually has any communication with Heaven again after that, because it's Crowley who goes to Heaven in his place and witnesses just how cruel they are (at least Hell gave Crowley a trial).
Nothing happens at the end of season 1 that could be enough to break him away from 6000 years of cult-like indoctrination. He still puts it down to a few bad angels. He never actually talks to God, and whilst the Metatron disappoints him, its very easy to believe that Zira would change his mind after receiving a few kind words, and the promise of restoring Crowley to full angelhood.
Crowley was perfect throughout the entire season. 10/10. No notes. Absolutely utter perfection. Outstanding performance from DT, I laughed, I cried, I wept, I desperately want to hug Crowley and let him cry on my shoulder for an entire night.
Other things I adored about the season include the entirety of episode 5 The Ball. My fave episode. It was so silly and adorable and funny. The entire "Seamstress" conversation had me rolling with laughter. Shout out to Donna Preston (Our girl Despair) who absolutely stole every scene she was in. Miranda Richardson shines as Shax (an excellent choice to recast her as a new character after the butchering of Madam Tracey's character at the end of S1). I think Muriel was a bit underutilised but still loved their wide eyed innocence and naivity.
The biggest thing I think was missing was Francis McDormand's narration as God. They brought her back for episode 2 for a very minor role, I don't understand why Neil couldn't have just had God narrate it again, with more Douglas Adams crossed with Monty Python style sequences of explanation (the angels dancing on the head of a pin is one of my absolute favourite moments in all of season 1). I presume that God's narration in S1 was to ensure the books more abstract explanations got faithfully adapted, but I wish Neil could have at least tried to recreate that for S2.
Finally, the AziraCrow romance was almost exactly what I hoped for. All the way through the season they built on it and built on it, whilst also shedding light on the fundamental issues at their core. They are still so opposite even though they want nothing more than to be together. It's heartbreaking, it's shippy AF, its all romance tropes and fanservice sure - but I don't consider fanservice to be a dirty word. The kiss is heartbreaking. You can feel the desperation oozing off of Crowley in that moment. The heartbreaking cliffhanger is exactly what's needed at the end of act 2 of a 3 act structure. If we had been given the episodes week by week, i fully believe by week 6 we would have been more prepared for it, because after rewatching a few times now, its built in rather seemlessly imo. It was always gonna end that way.
When I consider everything, I can honestly say hand on heart that I preferred this season to the first. Though that's only because season 1 doesn't have enough AziraCrow in it and I'm ultimately here for them. This season was made for the AziraCrow fans, so it makes sense that I'd prefer it, whereas I suppose for book lovers and people who prefer the story of book 1 to the relationship between Az and Crow then yeah, for sure I can see why perhaps you wouldn't be too happy with this season. Perhaps Season 3 will be a better blend for all GO fans.
It was a joy. Fanservice? Yes. A bit like fanfiction? Also yes. Are either of these things bad? Not at all. It was extremely queer, fun, silly, romantic, and heartbreaking. The lack of overarching domineering plot was a good thing tbh. Some of my favourite shows focus more on character development than plot, look at WWDITS, which has never had a proper plot in a single episode of its 5 season run. Yet it is hugely successful and critically acclaimed. Half the time in Supernatural the plot was the absolute worst thing about it. You ignored the plot as much as possible and instead focused on the subtext because that's where all the fun was! So yeah, the lack of overarching plot doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I will leave it there. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, though I do wish that anyone who is particularly critical of GOS2 would please tag it as such, because now I've done my dive into the critique of it, I'd like to avoid and blacklist all such critique going forward. I want to remain in my little GOS2 happy bubble for a while longer - before I inevitably revert back into deep meta analysis of the much darker, and sometimes depressing story of The Sandman.
:)
