Everyday McLaren wakes up and demonstrates that a good car and good drivers are not enough if you are aiming at championships. They are still midfielders in their minds. Like, waiting for the rain in Brasil could have worked only if you aim to reach the point positions, not the podium. If you want the podium you have to be more insightful, like Redbull demonstrated by not making Max pit and making him wait for an obvious VSC.

If I have to be pessimistic: they could have taken things easily and STILL could have made better calls, better managing for their drivers and PR. So, to me, they talked about a switch during the race after they created a gap from P3 and changed plans only when they understood that neither him or Oscar had sufficient pace for that. Lando just got the news on radio and was his genuine confusion.

No, I mean. He is better at defending than Oscar (and not because Oscar is not good, we saw him defending in Baku). But I don't agree with that strategy as it was obvious that Leclerc would have succumbed to Verstappen very soon.

Verstappen, clearly, is always looking for a DNF when it comes to Lando (he knows he wins easy the WDC if they both DNF or just Lando does, like in Austria) while he would never risk a DNF with Oscar. (He sees him as useless, WDC wise). And we saw that Verstappen was more "gentle" (by his standards) with Oscar when he attacked after the VSC...

Speaking about Oscar and Max "overtaking"... Why no one is speaking about Max saying "Leclerc was the only decent enough" when speaking of his climb up from p17?

While it being true, as no one, apart from Charles, really battled him, i still think "why didn't they told Oscar to keep him behind? Or just making him attack his tyres in order to prevent him not pitstopping or climbing up?". So many questions I don't have answer for... I'm also really happy that he's back to eating/drinking before races and can finally enjoy driving again. (Noticed him eating an energy bar before the race in Mexico)

I also noticed that he, just like Oscar, matured A LOT this year, especially after the summer break. (Speaking of the elephant in the room: Despite the team's apparent indifference, I still think that WDC can be achieved if he chooses to. Even if they're not interested in helping him due to different priorities or contract clauses)

And no, he is definitely a First Driver. If you think otherwise you are just living in a delusion, sorry. Telemetry, just like Math, is not an opinion.

Also they took risks with the floor too in Mexico. And no, they didn't give it to Norris because they hate Piastri. They give it to him mainly because he is more experienced and can provide useful data during practice while Oscar still needs to improve this skill.

4. Also, the team has done a great job in finding a way to change the banned rear wing without compromising performance and exceeding the spending cap. Love it. (also they made a new beam wing configuration specifically for Interlagos and it, apparently, works really well!)

I'm still not convinced that we currently have the best car on the grid (Ferrari looks really solid anywhere) but it's already better than the rocky start we got in US.

Not gonna lie, the moment they sprayed the WHOLE side of the car with the flow-vis in Austin i was like "goddammit, no improvements"... So I'm relieved that it wasn't the case (better sacrifice a race than discard the upgrades package entirely like Ferrari did in Silverstone).

WCC wise, I just hope that today they don't do something silly risking two MCL38 in a multi21. (And that we get some good strategies... Hopefully... Ok, I think I need to start pray some ancient god for that.)

Sigh. As much as I love and respect Laurent and personally believe he’d be a much more palatable TP than Binotto this unfortunately points towards a bigger issue within the team, this idea of constantly reiterating that nothing’s wrong, there’s no reason to change anything, most of their poor results are down to outside factors, no one really understands their plight, etc.

Granted, they’re hardly going to openly admit morale is poor or whatever, but not taking responsibility and doggedly defending bad decisions, when everyone else can clearly see many, many costly mistakes were made, is not a good look either. It’s difficult to feel sympathetic when the team’s policy so far has largely been denial (there’s no reason to change anything within the team), deception (claiming the race in Hungary was unwinnable regardless of strategy simply because the car had “no pace,” which was absolutely not true for Charles), and delusion (there’s no reason we can’t win the remaining 10 races), or some mix of the three. It’s frankly insulting. To Charles, to all the people back at the factory who worked so hard to make a championship contending car, and to all the fans tuning into this clown show. In all my years of following F1/Ferrari, I don’t recall a time when they so blatantly made so many bad calls with such frightening consistency. It’s not just a genuine mistake here and there. It’s week in, week out; the rule, more so than the exception at this point. You can comfortably go into a weekend and predict that the pitwall will do something to compromise Charles’s race and be correct more often than not, and that’s concerning.

And now, a little over halfway through the season, they’re closer to Mercedes in the standings (30 points difference) than Red Bull (97 points), who started off as their main rival for the championship(s). My prediction? They’re going to be pipped for second by Mercedes and ultimately finish the season in P3 in the Constructors’ standings. Mercedes. The Mercedes whose resurgence was supposedly a good thing for Ferrari, because it would “take points away from Red Bull.” Yep. P3. From P1. P3, where they finished last year, a result that was considered a massive success for their then-midfield car, coming off the back of a disastrous season. And the worst part is, should it happen, it will be absolutely deserved. P3 is just a more accurate reflection of their goals and ambitions than P1. After all, Binotto shamelessly moved the goal posts while the championship fight was already well underway and downplayed their ambitions from winning a title to just winning some races here and there.

In its current form, with its current attitude, this is not a team that has a genuine hunger and determination and desire to win championships. When Red Bull or Mercedes lose out, they are sick. They’re disappointed, they (generally) hold themselves accountable, and they analyse their weaknesses in order to come back stronger at the next opportunity. To them, anything less than a win is not good enough, especially when they know they have the car and drivers to achieve such results. They’re always pushing for more, bigger, better. There’s ambition there to win - and not just a race, but races, and, crucially, titles. Ferrari, meanwhile, seem to be content with mediocrity, treating the ultra-competitive sport that is Formula 1 like it’s a school sports day, where everyone’s a winner simply for showing up and participating.

In the past their title bids have also been flawed and ultimately fruitless (2017, 2018) but, I don’t know, at least I could feel they tried, they wanted it, which is more than I can say for the current pitwall/management. It’s this feeling that they just don’t care, that they’ve thrown in the towel much too prematurely and are now pretending this was the plan all along...that’s the inexcusable part. To have everything in your grasp, have the driver, have the car at your disposal...and then so carelessly dismantle everything for no discernible reason. If there is one given behind the scenes for this fiasco, then we’re not privy to it.

If the management, the people who hold actual executive power, who are responsible for making important decisions, really and truly see no issue with how the team is being mishandled at the moment, the way it’s failing to reach its full potential, then this malady is more serious than we initially thought. If there’s only talk of “learning lessons” and no actual, tangible action follows - worse, if the same mistakes keep being repeated over and over and keep being defended in the face of fair, constructive criticism, then the team has a massive problem, and I can’t, right now, see any clear solution. What I’m gonna say is that ferrari fucked up easier races, than this one. They were in a very difficult position faced with what the race meant to both their drivers. They did P1 and P4. To be honest if they fucked up a double pit stop it could have been a much worse weekend, and the % of fucking up that is very high, for every team. Also you never pit the one in front, with fresher tyres. Safety car was unlucky, as always.

I can’t recriminate letting Carlos staying in front in the first stint because for that time it was right, then he couldn’t do the time and backed up without complaining and they pitted him.

He let Charles pass, without saying a word.

Charles never blamed Carlos during the race. He just gave feedback on his times.

Carlos asked “please, please, please,” to let him fight on the soft meanwhile Charles was on hard, even if he let a ten car space (as asked) Charles still wouldn’t have won. Carlos would have defended Charles if they were on the same compounds. I know it, you know it, everyone knows it. He let him pass before.

Carlos said that he tried to do the cleanest overtake he could on Charles, he said he nearly got overtaken again because he didn’t what to touch him.

We can’t judge decision made on lap 20 with the knowledge we have now after 52 lap and a yellow flag.

They were doing good, they had the 1-2 you all want (Charles P1 and Carlos P2), to be honest if the yellow flag never existed just one driver would have finished the race, Carlos didn’t have the fuel to finish, he wasn’t losing pace, he was told to lift and coast hard. Imaging a Ferrari not finishing once again, it would have been a disaster.

I’m sad for Charles, I can’t enjoy Carlos first win that much.

I’m happy that they did everything they could to preserve the team balance.

You’re biased, I’m biased too because I know that if it was the other way around it wouldn’t touch me so much, because it’s obvious that Ferrari puts their hope on Charles winning the title and they are right in doing so. He fucking overtook ham at Copse.

We didn’t win for 6 races.

Seeing the checkered flag is all that counts, if we saw that more often in the past we wouldn’t be talking about this, but we didn’t, and I’m very happy we did today.

49 points before, now we’re 43 away from the top. Anything can happen and will happen.

A Hunter’s Prey: Bruises and Realizations

The walk of shame back to the troupe’s hideout became a longer journey than it was to leave. Before, I followed Illumi’s bloodlust. Now, I have to notice my surroundings. The streets were bustling with people trying to get from one place to the other. The faces weren’t friendly as many of them lived in a state of extreme poverty. If I had any money to my name, I would have given a few dollars to the children that wandered the streets looking for their next meal.

Being alone didn’t bother me. I was able to get a fresh look at everything without the worrisome eye of the long-haired man. No. I would not think about Illumi. He left me. My hand absentmindedly went to the phone once again. I could easily call him. No.

I finally found a place that seemed similar. I followed the path to the back room. Inside there were the troupe as crazy as ever.

“Interesting that you would return,” said Feitan. He startled me and I jumped a little back. I turned to look at the small man in shock. His hands were placed inside of his pockets as a nonchalant gesture of uncaring.  “I thought your boyfriend would kill you.”

I rolled my eyes. “He’s not my boyfriend,” I shrug while walking past the dingy stack of boxes that still piled up to the ceiling. “And do you get a sick satisfaction from scaring me?”

Feitan finally smiled, a sinister, sadistic one. “Yes.”

I decide to ignore his haphazard attempt at conversation. Instead, I walk into the pit of spiders as if it was my home. They seemed to be having another argument about which Nen ability was the best; however, none of them seemed to show their own. Shizuku was the only one to bring out Blinky to prove her point.

My eyes caught Chrollo. He stood in the far corner watching the rest of the team. I would guess that his Nen ability far surpassed the rest of the team. He didn’t want to get in on petty squabbles that would easily be solved if he had joined.

I stood beside Machi as Shalnark defended Shizuku against Phinks. “So where do you rank?” I asked her.

“I won’t be the first,'' she said. “I would be higher than the majority of them though.” She paused while putting her hand on my neck, pushed away the hair from my shoulders,  and made me tilt my head. “Don’t tell me that you fucked him.”

“What do you mean?” I ask while pulling away and putting my hand on the spot she held her only a second ago.

“There’s a bruise on your neck.”

“I-I…” I stutter while looking to the ground. “No. We didn’t fuck.”

“You’re lying,” the pink-haired girl said while crossing her arms. This was her stance of disbelief that I had known too well after many, many different nights of binge drinking and going home with many different men. My embarrassment made me look at the rest of the spiders in hopes that they weren’t paying attention. They weren’t as their argument was too important.

“Fine. Yes. He’s not that bad.”

“You slept with someone that kidnapped you.”

“Sounds kinky,” replied a voice from behind me. Feitan, who I didn’t know was still sulking in the shadows behind me, was the one who said it. Before I could smack the sadistic smile off his face, he pushed past us and into the circle. “I would like to add that I won against the ants.”

“That’s because you picked the correct pathway,” replied Phinks while pointing at the man. “Plus it only happens when you’re angry.”

“Good thing you’re here so I always have a constant supply of anger.” Phinks lunged to strangle him but Feitan moved out of the way. Franklin and Shalnark had to step in between the teo’s playful fight.

My attention turned back to my friend. Her demeanor hadn’t changed even throughout the chaos. Her resting bitch face was terrifying in its own right.

“Fine,” I said while finally pulling away my hand. “Do you want details?”

“No. Are you alright?” Her question reached deep within my soul to bring up emotions that were pushed away for a few moments. My smile at the exchange between the troupe left my face. Machi loosened her grip. “What happened?”

“I don’t want to talk about it,” I said while looking back at the circle. Phinks was arguing for his Nen ability some more to the annoyance of the rest of the troupe.

“You don’t have to tell me,” she said while moving my hair to cover the bruises section. “Just know that Illumi would be lucky to have you. Make sure he knows that.” My attention turned to Chrollo who was trying to calm Phink. Machi looked where I was watching and back to me. “Also, Chrollo is just as bad as Illumi. He’s… a lot sneakier about his deceit.”

I nod my head as a sign of understanding. I was free to date whoever I wanted but I knew that Machi was right. My past was consumed with men that negatively impacted me with the thought that I could fix them if given the chance. The amount of times I’ve cried to her on the phone could not be counted on two hands. “So-” trying to change the subject- “will you finally tell me about you and ponytail?”

Machi rolled her eyes at my comment and softened her stern look. “Fine. But not here. Feitan’s a sneak and a bitch.”

Night time came faster than anticipated due to the rest of the team planning CHrollo’s actual strategy against an opponent that wants to kill him for sport. He’s supposed to meet this person at Heaven Arena within the next week. Chrollo refused to say his name for my sake but it seemed like the troupe was well acquainted with this battle that was happening.

Once the meeting had commenced, Chrollo made sure to pass me. He had passed me a note with an address and time. I was to meet him there and then for our ‘date.’

The time felt later than normal as I walked into a 24-hour coffee shop that doubled as a small library. Even though this wasn’t a real date, I felt underdressed. My change of clothes were lost many nights ago so I had to do with what I was wearing. It was stained and crinkled from time.

I wanted to order something but I remembered that my card was either at the Zoldycks or in my apartment. Illumi had paid for everything and taken care of my every whim. I didn’t have to think of money because he would know what I wanted even before I asked.

I found a seat in the back of the shop. Chrollo wasn’t there yet. By the phone’s clock, he was five minutes late. Since he was already late, my eyes wandered to the bookshelf that lined the back wall. I picked one at random and started to read.

“That’s a good novel.” My body, absentmindedly, turned to look at where the voice came from. It was Chrollo. He looked so much more normal or what his night look was.

“I started it while I was waiting for you,” I said while putting the book down. Chrollo sat down across from me. He placed his own book on top of mine. “What are you reading?”

“Nothing important,” he said. “It’s better I keep in beside me than anywhere else.” A few drinks were dropped in front of us. A black coffee for him and a speciality drink for me. “I ordered already. I asked Machi.”

I nod and take a sip. “So this is supposed to be a date?”

“No. This of it as a business deal.” Chrollo picked up his cup and took a deep drink of the pure, caffeinated drink.

“I thought you wanted to take me on a date,” I said with a fluttering tone. I would be the first to admit that in this attire, he was not bad looking. In fact, I’d call him extremely attractive. “Unless you want to go to the end of a good date.”

Chrollo chuckled while placing his cup down. “It seems that has already been taken care of.” My hand flies to my neck in a shameful realization that the bruises did not disappear in between my conversation with Machi and now.

“It’s alright,” I said. “We had some differences.”

“I could’ve told you that. People who don’t know the inner workings of this side do not couple up with those who do. There has to be an act of a higher power for the two to meet.”

I knew he was right. Illumi wouldn’t be the person that I would normally pick up in a crowd. Illumi was endearing but in the way a fly is attracted to the venus fly trap. However, once you get across the harsh mouth, there is a person worth love. No. Chrollo was using this against me. “You seem interested in me enough.”

Chrollo leaned in and placed his head on his hands. “No. It’s not enough. I’d love it if this was an actual date but I don’t steal an associate's girl.”

“I’m not Illumi’s girl,” I say. “Well, not anymore.”

“Then why did you ask Kalluto to come see you? Why do you seem so focused on seeing if he would come save you? Why do you now keep your phone on vibrating rather than silent like you did a few days ago?”

I clutched my phone a little tighter. “I need to hear my messages. Since someone stole my phone last time.”

Chrollo hummed while leaning back in the chair and taking another sip of his still warm coffee. “I wonder who would do such a thing to a pretty girl.”

“The one that would openly flirt with a taken girl.”

“So you are taken?”

His wordplay had trapped me. I stuttered before responding, “No. Not anymore.”

“What happened?”

“It’s not important.”

“Yes it is.”

I took a deep breath and sighed. I knew that he wasn’t going to leave me alone. “Fine.” I took a sip of my drink as a way of collecting my thoughts. “Illumi and I want two different things. I want to be treated like a person and he wants to treat me like an object. He wasn’t to hide me away and I won’t allow it.”

“An object? Interesting.”

“No. It’s not interesting. He taught me Nen so that I could save myself enough to not get myself murdered until he came to save me. He trapped me in a room for weeks. He brought me on a mission that I didn’t ask to be on. He asked me to marry him rather than answering any question that I asked. Illumi refuses to see me as anything but someone that is there. I am an inconvenience rather than a legit person. He’s marrying me because he thinks that I will be the perfect wife rather than he actually cares.”

My anger was starting to get overwhelming. Words were coming out of my mouth with registering from my brain. They were from the heart. “I can’t stay home with the kids. It’s insane how archaic his views of relationships fall. I’d rather him teach me Nen so I can join him. I don’t want to be a princess in a castle. I want him to fight for me. Illumi needs to be the one that wants this more than me and not leave when it gets too tough.”

“Why?” Chrollo’s voice interrupted my anthem.

“Because If I care for him so much, he should give me the same respect.”

“Sounds like you really like him.”

“No. I hate him.”

“I don’t care for the ones I hate.”

“Well that’s different. I want him to stay. I want to be able to touch him. I want to have full conversations. I want to feel as loved as the night he told me about his brother. I want to help him. I-I…” my brain finally caught up to what I was saying. “Holy shit. I do love him.”

Chrollo’s grey eyes finally matched the smirk on his face. “At least you’ll admit it. He’ll be at the match that I have with Hisoka in a few days. You can come along. I’m only taking Machi, Shalnark, and Kortopi. I know he’ll be there because Kalluto told me of a certain proposal that they made. You can tell him that he can join the team.”

“I-I love him,” I repeat. I hadn’t noticed anything that Chrollo spoke. My heart was still processing what my mouth had said. I worried so much about him that it was making me sick. He was the best part of my day even if I was angry with him. I wanted to be with Illumi.

SPORTS REVIEW: DLSU V.S ADMU || UAAP SEASON 77

Volleyball is one of the most famous sports out there. It is a team sport consisting of six players on the court. As a volleyball lover, I tend to watch UAAP, and now, I was tasked to review a chosen sports video. The video that I decided would be the DLSU V.S ADMU || UAAP Season 77.  You can see the full video here.

Court Dimension

The game is played on a smooth-surfaced court 9 meters (29 feet) wide by 30 meters (60 feet) long, divided by a centerline into two equal areas, one of which is selected by or assigned to each of the two competing teams. Players may not step completely beyond the centerline while the ball is in play. A line 3 meters (10 feet) from and parallel to the centerline of each half of the court indicates the point in front of which a backcourt player may not drive the ball over the net from a position above the top of the net. A tightly stretched net is placed across the court precisely above the center line's middle; the game's official net height is 2.2 meters (7.4 feet).

Six Basic Skills

Passing is merely getting the ball to someone else on your team after being served or hit over the net by the opposing team. It's commonly thought of as the most important skill in volleyball because your team can't return the ball without a solid volleyball pass.

Setting is the setting motion that gets the ball hanging in the air, ready to be spiked by another teammate with force. It can also be used to dump the ball over into an undefended spot.

Spiking is the act of slamming the ball in a downward motion across the volleyball net to the other team's side of the court. This is one of the ways that a team can have a point.

Serving is the first skill used in a player since the first contact starts in every rally is called a "serve.". Its purpose is to give a hard time to the opposite team's offense.

Blocking is defined as deflecting the ball from your opponent's attack hit to prevent the opponent from a successful attack hit. One team makes a move trying to get the ball over the net, and the other team reaches up and blocks the ball from coming onto their side. If successfully stop, then the team that blocks gain one point, but if not, then the other team will earn the point.

Digging is a defensive maneuver in volleyball that can save your team from an offensive spike or attack. The athlete's job is to keep the ball from hitting the floor, and they do that by diving and passing the ball in a fluid motion.

Technical and Tactical Skills

Both teams show quite the same technical and tactical skills, yet there is still a difference in their techniques and tactics:

Passing

Both teams mainly used the forearm passing and making sure that the libero is the one to receive to pass it to the setter. Players other than the libero are also quick to receive the ball ahead of them.

Setting

ADMU: Sets were made by Jia Morado, the different set that she gives to the spikers easy to spike the ball, and that she is also the one who thinks mostly about the game since a setter is the one who will make different strategies. For example, sets that are quick or a high set, even a dump, can be seen in the game used by Morado.

DLSU: Kim Fajardo sets are tricky ones. It may look like she will pass a high set, but in fact, she already searched the other team's surroundings, and when she sees an opening, she will readily make an unexpected move, which gains her team a point.

Spiking

ADMU: one of the major technique skills that the ADMU used, especially by Alyssa Valdez and Bea de Leon. Valdez was known for her hard spike and can be quickly passed by the blockers, which are advantageous to the ADMU. But of course, Alyssa and the other spiker were there, and they used their minds to think if they will do a hard spike or a feint/dink. This just depends on the positions and an unguarded space that they have.

DLSU: Like ADMU, the spikers in DLSU also use a hard spike and a feint or a dink. They mostly used a decoy than the other team leading to confused them. Mika Reyes and Ara Galang, which are the rivals of Alyssa Valdez and Bea de Leon, they used all their power to overcome the blockers ahead of them to gain some points. 

Serving

ADMU: most of their technique is to have some jump serve and give a significant impact to other team. However, some players in the ADMU also used the Overhand Serve to play safe and focus on the spot that the player wanted to serve at.

DLSU: In spiking, they have similarities and no differences. The impact that the DLSU has given to their service lead them to have more service aces than the ADMU.

Blocking 

Mainly used in both teams well, and every time a team will spike, the other team will read the set and the spike to block well. The only difference is that the DLSU is much more robust in blocking in ADMU because, in my perspective that the DLSU is better in reading the spike of the spiker and has more powerful hands.

Digging 

Both teams used this, either they do it by diving or in a ready position to receive. Both teams anticipated well in reading the other team's spike, and even though it went past the blockers, the player behind is ready to receive it. But sometimes, the DSLU is having a hard time digging the ball, especially when Valdez will spike since its impact is hard to dig at all.

Rules of the Game

There must be six players on a team (3 on the front row and 3 on the back row).

Maximum of three hits per side.

Player may not hit the ball twice in succession (A block is not considered a hit).

If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one play, and either player involved may make the next contact.

The ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.

It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player's body and illegally catch, hold, or throw the ball.

A ball hitting a boundary line is "in" and "out" if it hits an antenna, the floor completely outside the court, any of the net or cables outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, and the ceiling above a non-playable area.

In serving, it shall be hit with one hand or any part of the arm after being tossed or released from the hand(s). Only one toss or release of the ball is allowed. Dribbling or moving the ball in the hands is permitted. The server must also hit the ball within 8 seconds after the first referee whistles for service. At the moment of service hit or take-off for a jump service, the server must not touch the court (the end line included) or the floor outside the service zone. After the hit, he/she may step or land outside the service zone. A service executed before the referee's whistle is canceled and repeated. Lastly, substitution is allowed.

It is a five-set match. The best of three-set will win the game.

Touching the net with any part of the player's body while the ball is in play and crossing the court centerline with any part of your body is a violation. 

Officiating the Sport

First Referee is the official that stands on the referee stand (raised platform) positioned at the court's side across from the team benches. He is the one that starts play by whistling and signaling (beckoning) the server to serve the ball. He/she is the official in charge. If they feel it's necessary to do so, the first referee has the authority to overrule any of the other officials. Thus, the first referee can replace officials if needed. The first referee is also responsible for officially recognizing team requests, substitutions, timeouts and communicating with the coaches at the appropriate times.

 Second Referee stands on the ground on the court's opposite side from the first referee. The second referee should position themselves to effectively transition from one side of the net to the other when the ball is in play. Moreover, he/she is concerned with matters such as keeping time, assisting the first referee in making calls, administering substitutions, and verbally communicating with team coaches. He/she also needs to communicate effectively with the scorekeeper and overlook the scorekeeper with recording subs, timeouts, etc. At the same time, he /she should help the scorekeeper and assistant scorekeeper with any questions or issues that come up.

Scorekeeper creates official records of volleyball games. Before play begins, the scorekeeper records team and player information. Once the game starts, scorekeepers not only track points but also player substitutions, sanctions, and time-outs. The scorekeeper keeps an eye on the individual serving the ball to track the rotation and notify referees of potential lapses. At the close of the game, the scorekeeper records the game's final score.

Assistant scorekeeper or libero tracker is responsible for updating the scoreboard and keeping an eye on the libero. This individual records changes in the libero rotation, notifying referees when problems occur in the process.

Line Judges are generally in opposite corners, one at either end of the court. In total, there are four line judges.  They work with the referees, signaling to assist in making judgment calls. These officials often use flags to signal when a ball is in or out, hits the net's antennae, or when the server commits a foot fault or steps outside the line as they serve.

Overall Game

ADMU had won the UAAP Season 77, and I believe that is because of the power of the attack given by the team. Even though DLSU has a good defense on them, they were sometimes a crack on it, making the ADMU gain more points. The strategies that were used by the winning team show their full teamwork and the strength that they have. I’m not saying that ADMU is good and the DLSU didn’t perform well, but in this stage game, ADMU really shows their power to reign the court causing them to win and defend their reigning team last season.

USA vs Serbia Full Game | Basketball Men's Gold Medal Match | Olympic Games Rio 2016

Court Dimensions: The basketball court in the video denotes a 28m sideline, which runs the length of the court. The ends of the court running behind the goals otherwise known as the baseline and endline measure 15m. The middle court is used to denote offensive playing during the game, and it is 14m from each end-line. The center circle is used for the opening tip-off and has a diameter of 3.6m. The three point lines that can be seen in the video are arcs that mark the range boundary from each hoop, and they measure 6.75m from the basket. The free throw line is 4.6m away from the backboard and it signifies where the player can stand when shooting free throws. The free throw circle is 3.6m in diameter, just like the center circle. However, in this circle, shooters must stay inside it when they take a free throw; it can also be used for jump balls. Lane lines run from the free throw line to the baseline and measure 4.9m by 5.8m rectangle.

Equipment: The types of equipment found in the video include balls, basketball backboards, hoops, rings and rims, headbands, jerseys, knee pads, shoes, shorts, sleeves, and socks. First is the ball, which is what the players are using to play the game with. The ball in the video is made of rubber and has orange and yellow stripes with black lines. The ball measures 29.5 inches in circumference. The basketball backboard in the video is made out of transparent glass and it measures 6 feet wide and 3.5 feet high. It serves as a support for the rim to provide a stable goal. There are two hoops in the video, these hoops consist of a backboard, a rim, a net, and a metal post to hold them in the air. A basketball court needs to have a hoop, otherwise, they wouldn't be basketball courts. Next are the rings and rims, basket rims have a pressure release which allows them to bend when players dunk and hold onto it. The rim is a metal ring measuring 18 inches in diameter and is attached to a backboard that is 10 feet above the ground.  Next are the headbands, which I noticed that only a few are wearing. Headbands, however, are not just for fashion purposes, they can also stop your sweat from streaming down your entire body and interfering with the game. Next are the jerseys, a jersey is important to every player because it represents their identity when they are on the court. The Serbian jersey is white with blue stripes, letters, and add-on designs, while the US jersey is blue with red stripes, white letters, and other add-on designs. Next are the knee pads, which I observed some players wearing, knee pads can soften the impact from falls and can prevent a lot of injuries to the person wearing them. Next are the shoes, which are essential when playing basketball, a good pair of basketball shoes will give players an edge on the court and at the same time provide safety. They allow lateral movement and it will help them beat defensive players. Next are the shorts, which have the same color as each team's jerseys. Wearing shorts is better than wearing pants when playing indoors, as players start to sweat while playing the game. Next are the shooting sleeves which only a few are wearing, this piece of clothing aids in muscle recovery whether on or off the court. Lastly are the socks, which help prevent friction between both your feet and shoes. A good pair of socks will prevent blisters on your heels and toes.

Basic Skills Basketball is known to be one of the simplest sports in the world because its only objective is to get the ball into the hoop more times than the other team. However, it is far more complex than that, players need to master some of the most important basketball skills to reach the highest levels of the sport that most aspire to play at; these basic skills include shooting, dribbling, defense, rebounding, and passing. First is dribbling, which is when the player moves the ball around the court, it can be seen a lot in the video since all of the players had to transfer the ball to the opponent's side. Next is shooting, which involves players to score points for their respective teams. Next is defense, which allows players to prevent the other team from getting good shots and score points. I noticed that every team utilized the defense skill quite often. Next is rebounding, which is the process of controlling missed shots at both offensive and defensive ends. Controlling more missed shots will lead you to more shooting opportunities, thus allowing your team to score more points. Lastly is passing, which is another way to move the ball across the court. In the video, I noticed that the players in both teams had good passing skills, which made them score points for their teams.

Technical and Tactical Skills of Basketball Some of the basic basketball skills are quite similar to the technical skills because these are the fundamentals that give each player the tools needed to fulfill the physical requirements of the game. As a result, proper execution of the basic skills can help players improve their performance. There are three technical skills in basketball such as dribbling, shooting, and rebounding; which are used redundantly by players on both teams. First is dribbling, it is known as a repetitive action in which a player uses only one hand to bounce the basketball continuously on the court. Next is shooting, it's the most important skill in basketball, because if you can't shoot the ball in the basket then you cannot score a point for your team. Lastly is rebounding, otherwise referred to as a board, it is an awarded player who retrieves the ball after a missed field goal or free throw. In the video, the players of both teams had good rebounds since they all managed to gather the ball after it missed the basket. Knowing the fundamental skills of dribbling, shooting, rebounding, even passing and defense is necessary because it allows you to get a higher percentage of shots. There are also three tactics in basketball, such as the give-and-go, backdoor cut, and trapping. The give-and-go tactic is one of the oldest yet prettiest plays in basketball. It's an isolation offense that involves keeping the ball in the hands and control of the two best ball handlers. The backdoor cut tactic is an offensive motion concept in which a player sets the defender up by attempting to get open for a pass and then making a sharp cut to the basket. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of a team that overplays the passing lane and refuses hard to disrupt ball movement. The trap tactic in basketball is a defensive strategy and it is utilized to force a turnover by surrounding the ball-handler at a specific location on the court, thus making it difficult for them to escape. I observed both teams use the trap tactic a lot, and it truly does make it harder for the person trapped to score a shot, so instead of scoring one, they pass it on to another free player.

Rules of the game Knowing the rules and regulations of a sport before playing it is highly essential, as it provides understanding to all of the players involved. With that being said, there are a myriad of rules and regulations that the players must watch out for while playing basketball. 1.)  There should be no more than five players on each team. Substitutions may be made at any point in the game. 2.) The ball can only be moved through dribbling or passing. Once a player puts both of his hands on the ball, they cannot dribble or move with the ball, thus the ball must be passed or shot. 3.) After the ball goes into a team's half and they win back possession, the ball must return to the halfway line within 10 seconds. If it fails to do so then a foul will be called and the ball will be turned over. 4.) Each team has 24 seconds to shoot the basketball to the basket. A shot constitutes either going in the basket or just hitting the rim. If the shot is taken and the ball fails to go in the basket then the shot clock would have to restart for another 24 seconds. 5.) The team trying to score a basket is called the offense, while the team trying to prevent them from scoring is known as the defense. The defense must do everything they can to stop the other team from scoring either by blocking the shot or by preventing a shot from being fired. 6.) After a successful basket, the ball is handed over to the opposition. 7.) Fouls committed throughout the game will be accumulated, and when it reaches a certain number, it will be awarded as a free throw. A free throw involves a player from the offensive team, otherwise known as the player fouled, to take a shot unopposed from the free-throw line. Depending on where the foul was committed, will depend on the number of free throws a player gets. 8.) Basketball violations include traveling, double dribble, goaltending, and back-court violation.

How to Officiate the Sport Basketball officials are responsible for identifying any rule violations, and they also enforce the appropriate penalties in basketball. They are essential to any basketball game, as they help to ensure a level playing field that prevents either team from having an unfair advantage. Basketball officials include the crew chief, the referee, and the umpire. First is the crew chief who is the head of the entire officiating crew. They aim to make a final ruling when other officials come to a disagreement, they also maintain a strong relationship between coaches, scorers, and statisticians. Next is the referee who deals with conduct violations. While they call contact fouls and illegal positioning, they often settle disputes and hand out technical fouls if a player or coach behaves badly and loses control of their emotions. Lastly is the umpire who handles the clock, they ensure that the timer knows when to pause and restart the game, they also handle basic foul calls. In additament, they give a ruling when a defensive player comes into contact with an opposing shooter. I noticed in the video that the referee isn't that good because he kept on calling out unnecessary fouls.

153 - The Heist, part 1

I’ve said many times that science is neat. But sometimes it is also messy. Carlos converted one of our guest rooms into a laboratory so he can spend more time at home and get some needed renovations done on his laboratory downtown. Which seemed like a great idea, until I realized that it’s impossible to contain chemical odors and stains from getting all over the rest of the house. Not only did acid eat through our new Egyptian-tiled backsplash, but also a petri dish grew feet and walked outside, only to walk back inside tracking mud all over my new handwoven Svitzian rug. The last straw was when Carlos stained all of his shirt sleeves, not to mention his hands and, somehow, even the (cords) countertops a dull green, which completely threw off my kitchen color palette. I told Carlos he had to stop, but he insisted he had made a major breakthrough in his doorless fridge invention. “Cecil, this is so exciting,” he said, bouncing up and down like a child who wants a toy or needs to pee. “The problem with refrigerators is the door. In order to put food in or take food out, you have to open the door, and that’s totally  bad because it lets all the cool air out, raising the temperature of the other food inside. I told him that’s not that big of a problem, but his face darkened and he said, “Baking is an exact science, Cecil. If the butter is off my a couple of degrees, my croissants are ruined.”

I understood, but I asked that he find another place to conduct that particular experiment. He’s turning everything in our home a dull green, including his own skin. Fortunately, my sister Abby and her husband Steve Carlsberg just bought a new house. Ever since his promotion to vice president of the Last Bank of Night Vale, Steve has been saving up to buy a larger home for his family, one with a yard for dogs, no stairs and wider doors for his daughter Janice’s wheelchair, and even his own man cave, where he can raise bats and cultivate rare crystals. And they finally closed on their dream home this summer. They bought Janice a car too, complete with accessible hand controls, a state of the art sound system, and a moon roof that closes automatically at night so you never have to see that awful moon. Anyway, there is also a giant empty storage shed out back of their new home, and Steve and Abby told Carlos he can work in the shed until his laboratory downtown is ready to use again. So far, it sounds like everything is working out fine for Carlos, although he did accidentally leave a large green handprint on Janice’s new car. The good news is, she thought it looked really cool, so she decided to leave it.

Listeners, I’m getting word that there’s a robbery taking place in downtown Night Vale. Three people have entered the Last Bank of Night Vale and are demanding money from the tellers. The robbers are wearing masks of former US presidents Richard Nixon, William Henry Harrison, and Emma Goldman. The Sheriff’s Secret Police, as well as the Sheriff’s Overt Police, are on the scene but the perpetrators have begun to take hostages and the police are trying to negotiate. The robbers have not stated any demands yet, so the police are left to guess what they want. One officer suggested giving them a million dollars, which was (-) [0:05:52] accepted by the fellow officers as a great idea. Because, while human lives cannot be distilled down to a monetary value, a million dollars is pretty cool. But this idea was shot down by Sheriff Sam, who pointed out that the department does not have a million dollars. “What if we got them a puppy?” another officer offered up. “My basset just had a litter and I thought we’d be able to sell them, but it’s definitely a buyer’s market out there for hounds,” the officer continued. “Anyway I’ve got a brown one with white spots and two white ones with brown stops. I’ve named the Chutney, Footstool and Bob Ross. Footstool is the runt, let’s give them Footstool.” “We’re not giving them puppies,” Sheriff Sam shouted. “Oo, what about an Applebee’s gift card?” another officer said. “Worth a million dollars.” “Or a coupon book for free favors,” another said, “like repainting the guest room or raking leaves or – oh, wait, we’re the police right? A free crime day! They, they could use that coupon today, and we don’t have to arrest them and file all the paperwork, and the hostages get to go free. We could even have a coupon for a 15 minute backrub.”

All of the officers clapped for this idea, not just a win-win but a win-win-win, for the hostages, the robbers and the police. All except Sheriff Sam, who silenced them all with a loud whistle. More like a pan flute, really. It’s an enchanted whistle that causes vocal cords to stop working. “We are police,” the Sheriff scolded. “It is clearly stated in our oath of office to never give backrubs to bank robbers.” They then set to work trying to devise a plan to stop the robbery and free the hostages in the bank. Oh dear. Uh, listeners, I was just talking about my brother-in-law Steve, and here comes this terrible news. Um, I have no further information about Steve’s condition right now, nor the other citizens who are being held at gunpoint inside the bank. I will update you as events progress.

In the meantime, let’s go to sports. The Night Vale high school Scorpions opened their season this Friday against the Whispering Forest Wood Dogs. Scorpion’s head coach Latrice Beaumont said this will be a tough match up. The Wood Dogs, a team entirely comprised of trees, are roundly regarded as one of the toughest defenses in the state, with their tactic of whispering compliments to opposing players, until those players themselves turn into trees. Last season, Whispering Forest dealt to Night Vale its only loss, as nine of the Scorpions starting offensive players, including quarterback Junius Duncan, were won over by the Wood Dogs’ pleasant cooing. By the end of the game, the field was covered in trees, many of them former Night Vale high school student athletes. And Whispering Forest snuck out with a 3-to nothing win on the late field goal, that was somehow kicked by a tree. Coach Beaumont says she plans to give her players ear plugs to help dampen the whispers from the Wood Dogs’ defense. She also has uglied up the Scorpions’ uniforms adding mustard yellow and hot pink argyle atop the dark purple jerseys, hoping that the arborial defenders will find little good to say. The Scorpions are starting a new quarterback this season, sophomore (phenome) [0:09:20] Julie Dobbs, who won the job because of her prophetic dreams. Her slumbering subconscious is able to see the future, most notably other teams’ defensive strategies. She also uses her dream journals to develop a nearly unstoppable offensive game plan. She also owns her own football, which was a huge plus for the coaches. Good luck this weekend, Scorpions! We’re pulling for you.

I now have the names of the hostages being hold at the Last Bank of Night Vale. Jesse McNeil, a security guard who has worked at the bank for nearly 50 years, oh Jesse. What a sweet old man. He says hi to me every time I go there, always has a smile and a compliment. Why, just the other day he said to me, “Heard you on the radio, Cecil, and I was beaming with pride.” Another hostage, bank teller Genevieve Daly, who started at the bank this week. Oh Genevieve, what a tough break. Just now that we’re pulling for you. Bank customer and dinosaur expert Joel Isenberg. Oh Joel, I know Joel! He’s such a smart guy. And the last of the hostages: staff supervisor of the bank, Susan Willman. OK well, tough.

Unfortunately, after several grueling minutes, negotiations between the sheriff and the robbers have broken down. So the police have decided that the only way to break the stalemate is with physical force. While this makes sense in chess, I don’t know if this is such a good idea for hostage negotiations, listeners. But the police have advanced into the building to engage the thieves directly.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, but they said the noises could also be fireworks, part of the day long celebration of Lee Marvin’s 31st birthday, which was back in June. Oh. Happy late birthday, Mr. Marvin. You don’t look a day over 30.

We cannot see inside the bank and no one has emerged yet. I will have to report back later as soon as I have – oh no wait, wait. I’ve been told that the bank is on fire now. The west wall of the bank is engulfed in flames and the Night Vale fire department is already on the scene. They are shouting at the fire to stop being such a nuisance, but the fire does not appear to be listening.

Oh, this isn’t good. And even more frightening for me, I did not see Steve Carlsber’s name on the list of hostages. Abby told me he was at work today, but why was he not taken hostage? I can only hope he had gone to lunch when the robbery began. Steve, if you hear this and you’re at lunch, don’t go back to work, it’s on fire. I feel so powerless. All I can do is hope And bring you the weather.

First, the good news. The hostages have been freed. Inside the bank, the police drew their weapons on the robbers, but could not get off a clean shot because of the hostages blocking their line of fire. The robbers fired back, forcing the police to retreat behind a Coinstar machine and a full sized promotional cardboard cutout featuring a hooded man, his jagged smile just barely visible in shadow, holding a raw slab of red meat with the bold tex below him reading: “Great mortgage rates are inside of you”. But the second wave of officers blocked the thieves’ escape from the front entrance. Then, and Sheriff Sam did not see how this happened, but a fire began in the bank lobby. It spread quickly and the room filled with smoke. In the confusion, the hostages broke free from their captors and the robbers ran from the police. Fire engines sprayed water and broadcasted loud admonishments at the fire to knock it off already.

Susan, Joel, Genevieve and Jesse ran out into the street covering their faces, choking on the black air. As Jesse emerged, his 75-year-old body was knocked backwards by one of he fire engines’ hoses. Jesse was soak head to foot. The firefighters apologized, but Jesse merely brushed himself off and then generously complimented their work by saying, “I see you’re fighting a fire.” What a gentleman. The three perpetrators of the bank robbery also fled through the front of the building, but the police quickly halted and arrested them. As the fire finally subsided, amidst the damp charred masonry and broken glass, came another figure. Steve Carlsberg emerged from the bank, sweating and limping, but safe. An ambulance arrived to take the survivors to the hospital, but they all declined, except Steve who had a broken foot and gladly took the EMTs up on their offer. The bank robbers were transported to the abandoned mine shaft outside of town for questioning. It’s an open and shut case. The bad people lose and the good people win, and every single person, even the people who own Applebee’s, is glad no one had to purchase a one million dollar Applebee’s gift card. My brother-in-law is safe, as are his employees and customers. No one died and not a single dollar was taken from the bank registers at the front counter, nor the ATMs, nor the Coinstar. Even the fire didn’t damage those bills.

That was the good news. The bad news: as the police did a final sweep of the bank, searching for anyone else inside, whether they be customers or criminals, they reached the bank’s vault in the back of the building. Before he left the hospital, the police asked Steve Carlsberg to open the vault for them. “We’re sure everything’s fine, “they said. “It’s routine in a bank robbery,” they said. “I understand,” Steve said. He opened the vault, they looked inside, and they saw nothing. Millions of dollars in bills and gold were gone. Sheriff Sam said there’s a conspiracy here, and they’re going to really put the screws to the people they arrested. “No HBO until they explain where the money from the vault,” the Sheriff declared. And that’s a big deal, because a black lady’s sketch show just premiered last month and is crazy good. The Sheriff said they have no clues yet as to where the money in the vault went, but they did discover the robbers’ names are Richard, William, and Emma. Which is interesting because those are the names of the presidents whose masks they wore. “I don’t think that’s a coincidence,” the Sheriff said confidently. The bank lost a great deal of money today and some innocent people lost their sense of comfort, but we are all still alive. At least those in this story are, and I’m so happy to know my brother-in-law is safe, as are Jesse and Joel and Genevieve, whom I’ve never even met. I’m glad those specific people are OK as well as anyone else who was taken hostage today.

For years. So a few weeks after Nozel snatched that shirt, he realizes no ones gonna catch him. So he goes 'I wonder what else I can get away with?' So naturally this ruthless idiot decides to wage some phycological warfare with an idiot who suckerpunched Fuego the week before.

It’s at a time where he is actually like a common sight at the games of the crimson lions, especially at this court. Even though he never interacted with the guys, and usually disappears pretty suddenly whenever Leon tries to establish eye contact. One Time he smiled at the silver haired and he could swear the other blushed and nearly tripped. He seemed somewhat shy, but there was also something cold and calculating about his gaze when he saw their matches. Also he was very handsome. So Leon couldn’t help but look forward to their little silver haired shadow with eyes like ice.

Nozel couldn’t help but come to watch the hockey players, a sport which his family has always looked down on. So rough, so unrefined, barbarians besmudgin the pristine ice with their violence. But this was different. They glided across the ice like figure skaters, all the while following a strategy, acting like a swarm, a unity, then dispersing into solo plays. It was fascinating. And Nozel didn’t saw Violence, he saw brilliance. And the most brilliant, the most outstanding of them was a male with a loud voice, deciding movements and a number one on his back.

Nozel loved seeing him fly across the field, defending, attacking, scoring, but whatever he did, it was always on point. No unnecessary movements, no wrong decisions, but there was still a fire with him, that ignited the ice. It seemed to reach Nozel too, he felt a warmth creep up in him, especially when the other looked at him.

He couldn’t understand what was going on. This was a weird, overwhelming situation and he held firmly onto every feeling that he was acquainted to, just to feel some normality.

One day, during a training match where the team was split in two and played against each other, one of the more common feelings in his life welled up in him. Disapproval. Anger. Loathing.

During the match, there was one player who just couldn’t seem to play fair. Something was off about him, too, since he joined the team he was nothing but trouble as far as Nozel had determined. The guy was new, none of the usual players Nozel was at this time quite knowledgeable about. He listened to other fans during the games to pick up something about the sport.

Now the new guy just moved to the city, he came from a rich family and basically bought his way to the place he was currently at. There were rumors of covered up foul play often ending up with severe injuries. On the ice the male was acting like a diva. There was no team play, he was always getting into everyones way trying to snatch the puck even from those in his own team. He even ordered them around in a way usually only the captain does, but with way more unreasonable orders.

There was also a certain talk amongst fans about a rivalry regarding the position of the center player. The position which in hockey is like the quarterback one for football. And which is currently the position a certain fiery captain holds during matches.

They were originally planning to use the other as a stand in whenever Vermillion needed a break, but the last match turned ugly real quick. There was so much foul play that even Nozel saw that something was not going right. Apparently the trainer and the captain nearly popped a vein afterwards, trying to reason with this dude.

So this training match was loaded by a lot of animosity. The feeling between the two current center players was hostile as it could ever be. While the Vermillion was leading his team and made sure things were running smoothly, the other was disrupting his teams play, was ordering them to be more aggressive or use their sticks to swab at the other players, which was certainly a foul, so they didn’t follow these “encouragements” and also was a total Puck hog. It became so unbearable that even the team under Vermillion became aggravated. No one wanted to continue playing like this, they were one team and hearing one of their own to use potentially very dangerous acts of violence against them, hurt. They were a loyal team, and this one did not fit in their ranks, everyone could see that.

The trainer called in a short break. The players were disoriented and no body felt good about the performance. They all came together on the bench, drinking water in disgruntled silence. All but one. A certain loudmouth couldn’t help but blabber on Bout what “his” guys should change, what they should do, he even gave them advice on how to certainly make some one trip. They were so disgusted by that that one by one they joined their usual colleagues.

The loudmouth called them cowards and worse, laughed at them and then stayed alone at his bench.

Leon exchanged a look with the trainer. He shook his head as to say “he doesn’t fit in”, and his trainer nodded at him. The crimson lions were passionate, they were fiery, but they were all loyal, sportsmanlike and especially fair players. Some of their fans even called them Knights, because they were so valiant, and they were very proud of that.

“Captain?”

Leon looked up at the others. They were all showing different varieties of uncomfortable feelings on their faces.

“I know right now we are supposed to play as enemies, but we are one team. And we can’t play like this. Not with him, not against him. We all know that you never welcome discrimination on the ice, but we really can’t think of him as a part of the team. What can we do?”

Leon nodded, he understood their feelings very well. But he couldn’t just jump right in their and start a round of bad mouthing another, that’s not befitting a Sportsman, especially not a captain.

“I understand your frustration. I have had the feeling too, that maybe he belongs in a different team, one that is going over the basics of hockey with him. Right now, we will continue the game. We will play to our best possibilities. We will play as we always did, clean, fair and honest. If I see anyone following the advice on tripping and spearing, I will make sure the person will clean all the teams equipment alone for a month, is that understood!”

“Yes sir!”

“We will play this match, and we will win this match, not as two teams but as one. Because every thing we learn and experience on the ice is a win. Isn’t it?”

“Yes Sir!”

“And we will show our new friend over there how the crimson lions play! And now back into the rink with you!”

“Yes sir!”

With new motivation and fire the players took on their positions. The loudmouth heard the captains speech, the yelling was loud enough. He knew exactly how the others thought about him. And he was jealous. He wanted to make the redhead feel his anger so badly.

Nozel, from his view point up high couldn’t hear all the words, but he got the gist of it all. New dude was causing more and more trouble, and the team was fed up with him ad his ways. That definitely showed in their game play.

The guys weren’t really listening to the newby after the break. They tried to play with him, but after he continued to be a Puck hog and not a team player, they left him out when they could. That gave the other team the opportunity to power play, overpowering them with full force.

Suddenly the frustration apparently took over, and Nozel could only watch wide eyed how the troublemaker suddenly took off and went face to face with the other center. The other tried to stand his grounds while also to Deescalate the situation. Soundly the others stick flew and in the next moment the Captain doubled over in pain.

Nozel blinked in surprise. Did this dude just spear his captain in the gut just over such a petty reason?

Was he mad?

Nozel didn’t see the aftermath of that confrontation, he just witnessed from the corner of his eyes how the other players came to Vermillions help. He left the rink to go seethe somewhere else in anger, before he forgot himself.

That night, he couldn’t sleep well, as was usual. But this was for far more unusual reasons. He was concerned for the well being of the red haired captain, angry about what he saw today and absolutely furious with the prick who just Went and sucker punched his Captain in the gut with a hockey stick.

He threw himself around in his bed, and then kind of automaticaly his fingers found the cloth safely hidden in his pillow case. Since he snatched this it has become an anchor for him, something to calm his mind after long days. The faint smell of the other that still lingered in the fabric made him think about its original owner. Also it made him feel a kind of thrill of victory again, like the first time he realized that no one knew he was the who stole it. It made him feel invincible, like the phantom of the Ice Rink.

Suddenly he got up. He had a power in the ice rink. He had keys, which the late owner of the ice rink had once lost at a small garden party with the Silva family. Originally Nozel had intended to return them, but then so many things happened, and the rink had become like a second home to him. His happy place. And when his insomnia kept him awake, he figured he could just spent the time training.

Now he could do something else, too.

A small smile formed on his lips.

‘game on, you prick’

Over the course of the next weeks, not only felt the loudmouth unwelcome in his new team, he also felt like the building itself was despising him.

His gear was disappearing from his locker only to turn up at the weirdest places, even though he had a lock. Well, the Key was his player number and a one for good measure, but how? He considered bullying from the others, who now openly didn’t put up with his attitude anymore, but after a while even the captain told the others, that this was in no way acceptable. Bullying was beneath them, and if it turned out to be one of them, there would be heavy penalties.

Loudmouth could only roll his eyes at that. That goody two shoes Captain even came to him after their match to talk this whole situation out. He wanted to make peace, even offering him help to find a different team or, how dared he, tutoring at hockey! Tutoring! Him!

He stayed out of pure spite, it didn’t matter to him how they hated him, he hated them more, and he was planning to disrupt and hurt them as long as he could.

After the speech, the stuff inside didn’t leave his locker anymore until he opened it. Then it always fell on him, stacked in such a matter that it couldn’t help but hit him in the face. He tried everything, stacking the things a certain ways, even using tape to secure them. After his ramblings about posseded lockers some Jokesters even gifted him a book about exorcism. Vermillion just handed him a new lock, one with a key only he had.

The next time he came to the training there was a salt circle and some fake candles placed around his locker. There even was a pentagram drawn on a photo of him, attached to the door.

He took his stuff home with him from then on, but that was annoying and tiring after a while. He was running on his last ouce of spite when the pentagrams started to reappear. Not only those, there were different symbols drawn in circles on photos of his likeness. After some sleepless nights filled with research via Google, he realized those were sigils to summon evil.

He felt attacked and like he was being cursed. He started to be uncomfortable when he was somewhere alone, it always felt like there eyes drilling into his soul, waiting for a time he was helpless and weak.

His attitude left him first, then his spite, and lastly his hair. He thought it was the stress getting to him, but when he saw the voodoo doll with somethin like a tonsur where his usual mane was, he knew it. He was being cursed. He became frantic, not even putting his pants on. He just took his belongings, threw on his jackets and ran.

When he passed some of his ex team colleagues he just yelled that he’d quit and that he hopes they suffer in this cursed rink.

They couldnt react with more than surprised blinking. But then the guys decided it was a thing to be celebrated, and made plans to organize a little something to eat. Leon just shook his head and checked the locker room to see, of the guy had forgotten something in his haste.

To his surprise all he found was a little doll made out of string, which looked surprisingly like the man he had to thank for an especially nasty bruising. He didn’t know what was going on here, but he surely hoped it was over now.

Meanwhile a certain figure skater did his laps on the rink, a bottle of Nair safely tucked into his bag.

He heard the commotion and the cheers of the hockey players, and he felt even more victorius.

'mission complete’

Then the redhead showed up on the higher visitor ranks, in his hands the doll which he stared at. Nozel nearly skated into the wall, he hadn’t thought of that. What if he left a hair on the doll? Any kind of trace that could lead to Vermillion figuring out what he did.

His fumbling caught the attention of Leon, who looked at the figure skater.

'Now look at that, it’s our silver ghost.’

Leon waved at him, and to his delight the other, after a few seconds timidly repeated the motion. He nodded and smiled, so as to good day, have fun, and then went on.

'Hm, so he skates, too? Cool, but I thought figure skaters are kinda stuck up jerks, at least that’s what the guys said.’

He threw a glance over his shoulder, just in time to see the silver haired do a jump with a turn, a so called toe loop jump. He raised his brows.

'woah. A talented jerk. In… Very tight clothes. Dang.’

He felt a little blush on his cheeks. He Gotta investigate on this. This could be something nice to check out.
