“Just as the U.S. celebrates itself as ‘a nation of immigrants,’ Zionists celebrated Palestine as a land without people for a people without land.”
Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz on the founding myths of the U.S. and "Israel":
"...Though the apt term “settler colonialism” wasn’t invented until rather recently, the practice of settler colonialism dates back many centuries. It didn’t begin in Palestine in 1948 or with Dutch Afrikaners establishing the apartheid regime in South Africa around the same time, but was an invention of British colonialism, starting with the 1607 establishment of the “Plantation of Ulster” in colonized Ireland. It soon became a model for the Anglo colonization of North America.
The founding of the United States as a capitalist settler state less than two centuries later marked the beginning of a hundred-year war to erase North America’s Indigenous nations and communities, violently seizing their farms and grasslands, replacing them with Anglo and other Western European settlers and creating a massive economy. This was made possible by violently kidnapping, enslaving and transporting Africans, practically depopulating the west coast of Africa.
Anglo settlers also established colonies in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with their own ethnic cleansing of Indigenous populations. The French and Spanish, meanwhile, established their own settler colonies in Central and South America, the Caribbean, the Pacific and North Africa, the most famous being Algeria.
These settler colonies all had a common purpose, what the Nazis called Lebensraum—that is, the territory that a state or nation believes is needed for its perceived natural development. This was initially tied to the rise of capitalism in Great Britain and the creation of the plantation and single-crop agriculture for profit. In the case of Britain’s settler colonialism in Northern Ireland, that single crop was the potato. The 13 settler colonies that Britain planted in North America starting in 1607 were required, with enslaved Africans’ labor, to produce tobacco and indigo (for dye) to market in Europe initially and then, with the conquest of the Caribbean islands, rice to feed the enslaved Africans.
Though not the dominant form of Western imperialist conquest, settler colonialism has distinct advantages over other forms, such as European military and administrative control over India and Africa — and, if measured in terms of the land, resources and wealth accumulated by the colonizing nation, it’s been the most effective. The British colonization of Ireland helps explain why: By enticing landless Scots, Welsh and Anglo settlers to usurp land from Irish farmers, Britain evicted the Irish off their small holdings in Northern Ireland — exploiting the settlers’ zeal to take free land forcibly. With British colonization across the Atlantic, landless Britons were encouraged to do the same thing in North America. After its founding, the new United States used the same settler-colonial tools to seize the rest of the continent within a century.
Jewish settler colonialism, culminating in the state of Israel, was a compressed version of these earlier Anglo settler colonies, encouraged by the British under the mandate of Palestine. Jewish people had always lived in the area, along with dozens of other communities, including new monotheistic religion offshoots of Judaism with the rise of Christianity and Islam. The late 19th century rise of political Zionism called for all Jews to return to and dominate Palestine.
On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the Jewish Agency, announced the establishment of the state of Israel, immediately recognized by U.S. President Harry Truman and, a year later, by the United Nations. But settler colonialism in Palestine did not begin with Jewish Holocaust refugees. In 1908, oil was found in Iran, a discovery that would condemn the Middle East to more than a century of imperial interference and violence. British, French and U.S. oil companies came to dominate the region.
It is no coincidence that these imperial powers, with their histories of violent antisemitism, became the strongest backers of a Jewish state in the midst of the Arab region.
A heavily armed, Western-leaning state was just what they needed to protect their interests against a rising tide of Arab nationalism and anti-imperialist sentiment. Imperial Britain issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917, supporting a “Jewish homeland” in Palestine.
At the time of the Balfour Declaration, Jews made up about a tenth of the population of the territory. The British did not consult with the Palestinian Arab majority. By 1947, the Jewish population was about 33%. Nevertheless, the partition plan passed that year by the UN General Assembly gave them about 55% percent of the land.
It’s vitally important that Israel be understood as a settler-colonial state because it would be impossible to understand the current conflict in Gaza without understanding its settler-colonial context. As historian Rashid Khalidi observes, the conflict is not between two equal national movements fighting over the same land, but rather is “a colonial war waged against the indigenous population, by a variety of parties, to force them to relinquish their homeland to another people against their will.”"

with the changing of each season, i find myself thinking; wasn't I just here? wasn't I just standing on the cusp, yearning for that next season that's now passed? will I ever learn to celebrate the current season instead of living in a state of longing and anticipation?

A story never told.
(Explanation under cut)
In English, my teacher made us participate in NaNoWriMo where we write for the whole month. Of course the rules were more lax (we only had to get to 11,000 rather than 50,000), but we still had to plan and write an entire story (or beginning of one in my case).
If you couldn’t guess from the image above, I basically made a glorified fanfic oops (note: this will never see the light of day.)
The main story plot line (at least the beginning) is based off of "in this game, no, you're not the only target" by gin (tabanthas) (great fic would recommend!) but with a worst case scenario cuz I'm a sucker for trauma bonding (i hope thats not weird, i just like my favorite characters suffering)
I did have to change names as to not raise suspicion from my teacher and alter some basic features, but ultimately I got to just shuck a whole bunch a head cannons on these poor boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Left is the reference to the boys. The right is just the top image without shadows cuz I'm indecisive.
Sorry for making this lil rant so long I never get to talk about this unfinished story and I really wanted to recommend another :)

Did someone ask for a WIP Wednesday?
(No, nobody did but I'm posting one anyways :) )
---------
“Are you ready to go? Anyone you want to say goodbye to first?”
She shook her head again, setting the bottle down on the counter. “No, I think… I think the cool air will do me some good.”
The adrenaline of the situation had kept her semi-functional, but now that her body realized it was safe, the liquor she had consumed with reckless abandon was coming back to bite her. And she still couldn’t stop herself from staring.
“I think it might too, Marsh. You’ve been swaying since we got to the kitchen… how much did you have to drink anyways?”
Marcia shrugged, carding a hand through the now-wild curls she’d so carefully styled all afternoon. “Dunno. I stopped counting after a while.”
Anetra crinkled her nose and Marcia almost missed what she said because the action was so cute, so delicate, and innocent in a way she didn’t really associate with the girl.
“Um. Sorry. Can you say that again?” She stuttered with a blush, her lower lip finding its way back between her teeth.
“I said I don’t envy you the hangover you’re gonna have tomorrow. I have some Advil back in our room that you can take,” Anetra offered as she moved to put her hand to Marcia’s back, leading her back toward the door. “You’re gonna freeze out there in that. Did you bring a jacket?” she asked with a frown, grabbing her own jacket off the coat rack with her free hand.
Marcia nodded, reaching for her own coat. She glanced enviously at Anetra, whose jacket looked thick and warm and high quality, compared to the thin flimsy one she had gotten for this costume. It looked cute but it wasn’t going to keep her very warm on the walk.
Anetra looked over at Marcia, brows furrowed slightly as she watched her. Marcia had her jacket in her arms but was making no move to put it on, eyes locked on the coat Anetra had just shrugged onto her own shoulders.
It took Anetra a second to understand. She shrugged her jacket off with a sigh. “You can wear mine. We’re basically the same size anyways.”
She draped the warm leather over Marcia’s shoulders, carefully extricating the other jacket from her grip to throw over her arm so Marcia wouldn’t have to hold it. The leather was soft and worn, clearly well-loved. It felt like butter against her skin and smelled like a mixture of weed and something that she was pretty sure was jasmine. It shouldn’t have smelled as good as it did. She nuzzled against the fabric, pulling it tighter around herself before looking up, giving Anetra a warm smile.
“Thank you. You’re secretly really sweet, aren’t you?”
Anetra smiled back, ducking her head a little. “I didn’t realize I was keeping it a secret.”
“You totally are. You play the tough guy with the brooding silence and the smoking and the sexy scar on your eye. But it’s all a lie and you’re not actually tough. You’re soft,” Marcia announced decidedly. It wasn’t necessarily that she thought Anetra wasn’t tough or intimidating. After all, she vividly remembered how dangerous Anetra had looked the one time she made her angry. But she was certainly second-guessing her concept of Anetra as mean and aloof. After all, how mean could a girl who had literally given her the jacket off of her back be?
“I think I can be tough and soft… wait, did you say my scar is sexy?” She cut her own comment off, face twisting in a funny way Marcia didn’t recognize. If it were on anyone other than Anetra, she would say it looked shy. She had colored in the scar when she did her makeup, a far cry from the usual attempts to make it blend in as much as possible. Marcia wasn’t sure exactly why she had decided to do that, but she thought it made her look like an action hero, some sort of brave knight or powerful spy. It made Anetra even more striking, to Marcia at least.
“That’s surprisingly nice to hear. I’ve always hated it,” she said quietly as she pulled open the door, smiling back at Marcia. “Now let’s go, I’m sick of being in this apartment right now.”
Even drunk, Marcia could tell Anetra was trying to cut off the conversation, which only piqued her curiosity, but she obediently stepped through the doorway, shoving her hands in the pockets of Anetra’s jacket and looking up at the night sky.

The Black Family Madness should probably be more well known as the Sacred Family Madness. It occurs through all the families on the 28 Sacred Family List. It's just most well known for how often it appears in the Black family. Unfortunately, for his own current friend group, both the Flint and Weasley family were both part of that stupid family list. For his own family, it wouldn't surprise him if the only thing that determined whether you fell or not was how much you leaned into it.
The Weasleys, on the other hand, were a different story. Only wizarding neighbours being two families not on the list, and only two of the current children being friends with other families on the list probably would save a family from falling into family madness. Ginny was friends with Longbottom, who as far as Marcus knew for himself, were about as active in trying in pureblood politics as the Weasleys, which was to say not at all. Unfortunately, Percy had him as a friend.

Its been forever since I posted a snippet of
BBC - The Fic
so here's a chunk from the next chapter. Hopefully i'll make some decent progress soon and be able to give you guys a ETA on part 2 release date.
“Alright, its ready.”
Donnie exited his lab with Casey’s replacement hockey stick. Only, what was in his hand didn’t look like a hockey stick. It looked like a flattened metal tube about eight inches long.
“Okay! Where is it?”
Donnie snorted, “Right here! The tube suddenly grew in size, “It’s collapsible for easy carrying.”
“Woah…”
“I wish my swords had a travel size.”
“Nobody asked you, Leo.” Donnie replied as he held the weapon in front of them. “I reused several designs from my beloved but retired tech-bo. You have several different head and length options, as well as a biometric lock. Raph wouldn’t let me add the chainsaw option but you do still have a flame thrower and fire extinguisher-”
“IT HAS A FLAME THROWER?!” Casey interrupted as he took the tech-stick out of Donnie’s hands.
“Yes, it has a flame thrower. Please only practice with that in open areas.”
“Uh, Donnie,” Raph looked ready to pull the weapon out of Casey’s hands, “is giving him all these very lethal options a good idea? Does he even know how to use a flame thrower?”
Donnie scoffed, “It’s a flame thrower Raph, all you do is point and press.”
Casey curiously pushed one of the slide switches towards the butt of the stick. The standard hockey stick head was quickly replaced with a pitchfork.
“There’s slides and buttons. The buttons are hidden under grips and require force to push them, this is to stop any accidental firing. There are separate buttons for the flame thrower, extinguisher, and collapsible mode. One slide’s clicks determine the weapon head and the other the speed and intensity. Unfortunately I could not manage to add the snack feature and keep the collapsible length pocket sized-”
“Donald,” Casey cut in before Donnie could start using tech mumbo jumbo, “thanks. A lot. Its amazing.”
Mikey placed a hand on Casey’s shoulder and shook, “Please, please let me paint it.”
“Can you make it glow in the dark?”
“I can make it glow in the dark.”

GRR a lot of my paranoia about my heart health has been coming back lately
#it used to be pretty bad a few years ago and im starting to get there again#its hard for me not to pay attention to my pulse to check that its still working fine because i honestly have a pretty big fear of dying#from a heart attack stroke etc#i can literally remember the day that it became a phobia of mine because in bio class we were reading an exerpt about a womans symptoms#as she was experiencing a stroke and like. i literally freaked myself out about it AS i was reading it i starting panicking#specifically the mention of your left art losing sensation sticks in my mind#a few days ago i read a few comments on a post about people who knew someone who died at their job#and a lot of them were about people who literally just. up and died for no reason. sitting at their desk. THAT freaked me out#cause that seems like a way id die is just out of fucking nowhere thats my luck#anyways im writing this because ive had like 2 borderline panic attacks about it today and i could feel myself freaking out a third time#a minute ago so i startd writing. thumbs up#i know im thinking irrationally but no one who dies of a heart attack expects to die. right. im probably not going to expect#it its going to Happen To me#ive read too many stories about people who either had one themself and survived or talking about someone they knew#where they say they could feel the doom and that something was wrong and etc. so when i start getting nervous it keeps snowballing#immediately into FUCK ITS THE DOOM THIS IS THE BIG ONE#when its literally not
