i try to not compare skyblock kingdoms to dominion too much because i feel like anchoring a series to an older one a couple of the members were in is a disservice that prevents people from acknowledging how good it is on its own merits.

but also, man, i havent been this invested in a series since dominion. i havent been this INSUFFERABLE in a series since dominion. tsmp came close, but sbk's medium is closer to dominion's territory so i get to do stuff like talk about editing choices and what does and doesn't make it into povs and stuff like that.

there was a very specific Vibe dominion had that nothing else really clicked for me. its not just the storytelling, its the atmosphere. its something more intangible. its how everyone and everything comes together and elevates each other. its how it introduces me to creators i wouldntve watched otherwise. its how everybody has their own unique Thing besides just the overall series gimmick like origin or wood type (that includes you, Ruby!).

sbk is fantastic. its way more than "the first skyblock smp", although i get why theyre leaning on that as the selling point. theres so many little quirks that freshen things up and make it stand out. not only that, but the positive reception to fanart and theorizing and fan content in general is wonderful, and getting to hang out in streams is a blast-- although i also hugely appreciate how thats not mandatory to enjoy the series, either.

i wont shut up about sbk because i want more people to discover and enjoy it. its still pretty early in and catching up on a single pov is easy. everyones editing styles and what they focus on bring something new to the table.

please, please give skyblock kingdoms a shot.

I feel like I'm the only one who didn't have any 'Bloodborne vibes' while playing Lies of P, for me Lies of P has its own unique atmosphere I've never experienced in any other games. I don't know, maybe it's because I didn't play Bloodborne a lot (I speedran the last part of the game 💀) or something like that 🤷

I still dont get (1) why the old dude doesnt attack her when she's by herself (while lee and her are split up) specially given his track record of eating dead people only. He is risk-averse. (2) why the two young cannibals cdnt take on an older dude when they regularly take on young, live prey. (3) why Luca added an injury to Lee's storyline. Lee & Maren's story shouldve ended with decisions that were taken calmly. That way it wd hv been devastating to see her eat him and then the movie ending with her being sad & all alone. As it stands the last scene in the movie is a bandaid that doesnt stop the movie from bleeding out.

sometimes i go a little bit insane thinking about the towns of early western america and how many just aren’t there anymore people’s whole lives washed away by sand and sun with nothing but dry, old wood and stone foundations and mines, now empty, to prove they’d ever been there.

sometimes i go a bit nuts thinking about all the cemeteries no one has visited in decades because they are miles from any development, now. wooden headstones reduced to kindling and the stone ones worn down so far that you’re lucky to make out a single letter. fences that have long since stopped serving their purpose.

I've always thought Drink Link was meant to evoke Social Link? Because in Japan it was called #DRAMA. I was never the biggest fan because it's one of many "translations" in Y7 that are just changing something that was already in English and doesn't require cultural context to understand. Like IMO whether it's seen as an improvement or not, it's just not the localizers' job to "improve on" the original; let them be cringe and let them be free...

And also it gave ammunition to Persona fans who refuse to experience anything but P5 and decided to go "wow! it's just like P5!" at every little thing Y7 did from the VERY FIRST trailers onward (including BE AN RPG) And That Shit Got Old Fast </3 Sorry </3 But I do think this one's very much on purpose, localization-wise. Exactly though, nobody in the Arakawa Family is neurotypical and I FULLY believe Jo would be at his best when put into Situations, like Mine is. It's something I reeeally miss from RGGO because of the pre-finale scene with RGGJo and Mitsu having a drink at their favorite bar... they haven't been there in a while, and RGGJo doesn't wanna spoil the mood, so he's not hostile in the slightest... and when he gets up to leave he says he "forgot his wallet" and makes Mitsu foot the bill (ICONIC for completely different reasons depending on whether he's telling the truth or not)... whereas in Y7 I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THE ARAKAWAS HAVE A FAVORITE BAR

beat vampire the masquerade: bloodlines today and i havent beaten a game in a long while (since splat3 i think), let alone an rpg (especially difficult for me to beat tbh). i liked it a lot !!!!

it wasnt perfect (for uhhhh a lot of reasons) but the atmosphere was good and fun and i adore early 00s edginess sm its so goofy.
