i think i remember a post made about this ages ago but i don't remember enough to find it, but one thing that i really love about star stable's story, and wish the writers leaned into, is that there's no winning for the soul riders.

the dark riders just want garnok to be freed. once he is, that's it. game over. jorvik is gone. maybe a future group can come together, maybe later down the line he can be contained again, but for all intents and purposes; jorvik's immediate destruction is basically guaranteed.

the most the soul riders can do is contain him. and hope that the next round of soul riders will be able to do it again, and again, and again. it feels so much like real life in a way that's both really sad and really uplifting. we can't kill the bad guy, and we never will. and people that want us gone forever can be held off, but that kind of insidiousness won't go away. it can't be killed. it's not like stories where you defeat the big evil wizard and now everyone is happy for ever. all you can do is try your best to hold it off this time, and hope that the people who come after you will do it again, and again, and again.

#in regards to real life this is very surface level #but i remember its something that drew me into star stable's story when i was a kid #it's the perfect makings of a tragedy #you can't win #but you have to try #star stable #if anyone knows the post im referring to PLEASE tell!#i tried searching around for it but i dont remember the wording clearly enough #and tumblr and google are both shot to shit now lmaoo

Thinking about the parallels between Sam's illusions and how it unravels pieces of him. Susie embodies his innate guilt and cognizance that his extreme end-justifies-the-means one-track minded stubbornness to save Dean regardless of the consequences is borderline immoral. He understands he is essentially no different from all-consuming evil. He is willing to do anything to save Dean, and he will not stop unless he dies. Right before Sam's conscience, that Susie represents, sways Sam, Rowena's illusion takes over. She pushes Sam to also kill himself (like Susie tried) through bleeding himself to death, but she convinces him it's for saving Dean. Rowena personifed Sam's persistent and overwhelming desire to sacrifice himself/to sacrifice himself for Dean/to do anything for Dean. And Sam's greater wish was to die not for the good of the world and doing the right thing, but it was to die for Dean.

It also says something that the two illusions Sam manufacturs that are particularly urging him to kill himself use the endearing 'Sammy' on him bc even in his subconscious Sam is best manipulated when it feels to him like it's Dean. But then the actual Dean comes in and he immediately calls him Sammy.

And he wants everything.#xxc leaves song lan thinking its the best course of action to atone but my god. No it wasn't. Poor communication crown actually goes to xxc #but it's what xxc he feels he deserves - continued sacrifice to atone. He wants to want nothing.#both are very stuck in the past in ways that are not actually accounting for their actions #It's easy to look at xue yang and go 'dang you need to get over your childhood trauma'#but that very much ignores that fact that we - real human beings - define so much by our childhood pains.#Growth is having to come to terms with it and trying to move past it...and not everyone is ready for that.#I have a lot of thoughts on that matter but I'll let it be for now.#Anyways. Amiguito appears to be one of those words whos meaning change depending on speaker and contextual factors #So as far as I can tell it slides around on the scale on romantic and platonic.
