𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞, 𝐭𝐞𝐧. i know what its like
❝ i'm tired of feeling like im fucking crazy. ❞
- lana del rey, ride
"Reid." Hotch narrowed his eyes at him, "I apologize." Hotch continued.
"I don't." Spencer mumbled, just loud enough for Isabelle to hear, she bit her lip to stop a laugh from slipping out.
"We've heard those phrases before When we interview school shooters." Isabelle explained to the oblivious counselor.
Emily rushed into the room, "Jordan was the motive for Kyle Borden, it was revenge."
"I need to speak to the boys who made this video immediately."
"I'll check their class schedules." The counselor scrambled to his computer to find out, his face dropped immediately, "What is it?"
"None of them show up at school."
୨୧
The local police station smelled of finger printing ink and old coffee, Isabelle enjoyed the smell, it reminded her of when she was a detective for the nypd.
The team heard the familiar sound of Garcia urgently typing on her computer through the phone call, "He deleted everything but the one mpeg." She sighed.
"I'm walking Morgan through retrieving what he put in the trash, but-"
"We've got three missing kids, Garcia, we need access to Owen's E-Mail." Hotch clenched his jaw.
"The kid is tech savvy, sir, but fret not, I am tech savvier!" She exclaimed, "Is that a word? That sounds like a word, if it is a word, I am it!"
"Two alienated kids, no maternal presence, dysfunctional relationships with dominating fathers who with held love, they were made for each other." Rossi said.
Emily shook her head, "Mm, as lovers, yes, but partners in crime, no."
"There's nothing in Jordan's profile that indicates she's capable of violence, and certainly not murder."
"A new mpeg just posted to the school social networking site." Garcia breathed heavily, "He- you need to see this."
A video popped up on the screen, it was of three boys, all on their knees while their hands were on their head infront on a lake.
"It was a joke, man!" One of the boys said, "We didn't mean anything by it!" Another boy shouted, "It was 3 years ago, no one even remembers it." The last boy argued.
"I do." A voice behind the camera said.
"No, owen!" "Don't! Don't!" "Please! No-" The three boys pleaded, they were cut off by gunshots ringing out.
"Garcia, is there any way to trace the mpeg to the computer that sent it?"
୨୧
"Once you've heard the profile, you'll understand." Jj told the officers that were gathered around.
Hotch, Rossi, and Spencer went to the scene where the boys were killed and figured out Owen was collecting injustices- the perfect revenge.
"We are wasting time, Owen is here, and we should be knocking on doors." An officer argued.
"It's not a good idea." "And why is that?" "Because Owen's watching, he's monitoring the news, right now, he thinks you think he's gone, he feels safe."
"If we start knocking on doors, he's gonna know that he's not, he's gonna feel trapped."
"Why the hell should we care about this little bastard's feelings?" Another officer chimed in.
Isabelle gritted her teeth, "We're here to help you bring in Owen Savage with minimum loss of life, the profile tells us how to do that, if all you're gonna do is bitch and complain then you can leave." She scoffed.
Spencer smiled at her, "Owen Savage fits the profile of a type of school shooter known as an injustice collector, he's trying to avenge perceived wrongs."
"If he's a school shooter, why hasn't he hit the school yet?"
"Jordan. Most of these guys are so angry and hopeless, they just want to kill as many people as possible then commit suicide." Emily explained.
"But Jordan gives him a reason to live."
Isabelle glanced at Spencer 'He gives me a reason to live.' She thought.
Isabelle hated that in so twisted way she related to Owen- she almost felt bad for him in a way.
Growing up in a small town and constantly being the outsider- no matter how hard he tried to fit in and find the acceptance of his peers he never did.
"Otherwise he's a textbook case, his life was one torment after another, his teachers gave up on him, his classmates bullied him, and his father blamed him while giving him access to guns." Spencer said.
"Given these conditions, you're actually quite fortunate." He added.
"It sounds like you're saying these victims deserved this."
"We're not, nobody deserves this." Derek said.
"But you could have prevented it." Spencer lowered his eyes at the officer.
"Reid, can I talk to you?" Hotch said, it was framed as a question but was more of a statement.
The two walked into an empty conference room only a few moments later they exited, Spencer stormed to the exit of the precinct.
Isabelle walked over to Hotch, "He's going to the Savages' residence." Hotch whispered, his eyes still focused on Spencer.
"Can I go with him?" She asked, Hotch's eyes darted to her face, profiling her.
"It's just- his room was really interesting and insightful, his mirror was painted over indicating severe self hatred-" "You can go." Hotch cut her off.
Isabelle quickly ran to the parking lot, getting into the suv parked outside.
"What are you doing?" Spencer asked, "I'm going with you. Hotch said I could."
Spencer just nodded and started driving.
A few minutes into the drive he turned to Isabelle, "I know what it's like to be afraid of your own mind." He admitted.
Isabelle immediately faced him, "I'm not." She lied, she wasn't just trying to convince him but herself as well.
Isabelle hated feeling crazy, when her feeling controlled her rather than her controlling them.
"I've seen the way you've been reacting this whole case." He looked to her.
"Isa, honey, I know you."

Still trying to finish a fanfic I began years ago...
{i am the caretaker of souls} I am going to try during my upcoming work hiatus if I have some time between answering the onslaught of student emails I'm sure I'll get, haha, to revisit a fanfic I began years ago but never finished. I actually wrote right up until the end, and then didn't write like... the last two scenes. It involves Nuada ending up in Silent Hill. I put a lot of work into it, even gave it a soundtrack of all SH songs I chose off of the various game soundtracks that I thought fit different events of the fanfic, heh.
I spent a lot of time choosing which creatures I wanted to throw at him and thinking about what would happen when he met the cult and all that. I set it in the movie verse (the first one, we... we don't talk about the second movie, dear gods it was atrociously bad for so many reasons), but added back in a lot of the lore, locations, and creatures from the games.
Once I finish it, I'm not sure how I would even post it anywhere, since AO3 and FanFiction.net don't allow supplementary files like soundtrack listings or explanations about creature symbolism. And it's too long to post here. But assuming I can actually finish it, and figure out a good way to post it and its supplementary files, how many of you would be interested in reading such a fic? If you can, like or reply to this post and let me know. I'm just trying to gauge whether this is something I complete just for myself, or something I should look to polish up to share with others.
I've thought over the years of adding the town of Silent Hill as a muse, heh, but I'm not sure how much interest there would be for that, and I'm not sure I could pull it off well. Basically, SH is controlled by a demon and the soul of a corrupted little girl. The demons wants souls, and the girl made a pact with the demon to get revenge on those who wronged her. The demon can't get to those people, though, because their blind conviction within their own cult protects them as long as they remain inside their church. Someone has to bring or invite the demon in before it can live up to its end of the bargain. That's... the simplified movie plot. The games are crazy with endless lore and I don't have five years to explain it to you, heh.
But... what the "town" or this demon does, is trap you once you get inside and then slowly try to draw out of you your hidden guilt, shame, crimes, selfishness, madness, etc. that you've been suppressing or lying to yourself about. It'll do this by subjecting you to different horrific creatures (some of which are other people who have been consumed by the town, others are creations that are symbolic in various ways for the kind of hidden skeletons in your personal closet), to frightening imagery, and to dangerous situations, until the stress makes your mind crack. When you crack, your true colors show. If you insist that you're not guilty, or continue to be in denial, or refuse to learn anything, your soul gets collected by the demon and you're there for all eternity. If, however, you show remorse, take responsibility, have a legitimate change of heart, or are changed by you're put through for the better, the demon can't take your soul and you may just walk out of SH alive.
That is.... the really simple overview, heh. But yeah, Nuada is in denial about a lot of things, he's done a lot of terrible things, his whole plan to wipe out humans is really flawed and he refuses to see that... so... the town would have a field day with him, and I wanted to take him through that process and see what kind of growth I end up with for him. And I've thought about adding the town as a muse so that other people could put their muses through the whole process if they wanted to, but years ago a friend of mine tried to do the same thing so I didn't want to step on her toes at all, and since then I feel like my details on locations and lore and things have slipped. It could be fun, or it could be a complicated mess, heh. I don't think I'll be doing this anytime soon but it is an idea I think about from time to time. Let me know your thoughts on this, if you like!
Anyhoo, I've loved the SH franchise for so many years, as long as I've loved Resident Evil. Survival Horror is my jam, heh. If you don't know anything about it and you want to, feel free to message me about it, but be prepared for me to talk... way too much. XD
For now, I sleep, but do let me know your thoughts about any of this, if you are so inclined, and I'm going to make a decent effort to at least finish this fanfic because it has been left unfinished for too damn long, heh.
#{ i am the caretaker of souls } ᵒᵒᶜ#{yes hello i will gab for years about silent hill if you let me}#{approach with caution lol}

Ace full of Kings
Welcome to suburbia land and the wealth of suburban lifestyle, although on the surface it may have looked like nothing, boring even, there was good poker players and poker nights, Sunday baseball games were always fun even if it's just kids, and every Wednesday at the local bar karaoke nights entertained the best and worst singers the neighborhood had, there was different stuff once you started digging in it, once you got acquainted with the place and its people most of all, and you know anywhere is worth it if you find good poker players
Tonight we are having a poker night in a dimly lit small backroom at Harris, smoke filled with the cigars that Barnes procured from an army buddy selling them on the low from Puerto Rico where he was posted, the room had every kind of Seahawks team memorabilia you could think of, signed jerseys and footballs, players cards, framed press articles, and a heap of photographs with the players and staff plastered the walls almost entirely, a lifetime collection that spilled to a few large boxes stacked one on top of the other, as a cop Harris had his entries, originally from Seattle before he bailed after getting in serious trouble with organized crime, it even had trophy replicas on a shelve, complete with Seahawks branded coffee mugs and coffee machine
Seahawks was "the coolest name for a football team" and the retired street cop was a huge fan, and of course it had the crackling police radio noise in the background because that's what you would expect from a retired street cop, to stay put even if, a couple of years ago we had invested in a proper poker table, our pride and joy, professional green mat and cup holders, the bar well it wasn't much, but Harris kept it filled with his rake although he didn't like to hear that word
Meet the players, or the demonstration that maybe prosperity isn't what it used to be, that the neighborhood isn't what it used to be, life in general, but that poker can heal all wounds, imagine that a poker night at your neighbor's poker room, a bottle of the finest whiskey money could buy for under 100 Dollars, put together around the fine looking table more than a hundred years of life experience, retirees, O’Brian retired fireman, Harris still on police radio, Brown a retail store manager, a black man who fought his way in life arguing to too many customers that he was the store's manager, and Barnes a Vietnam vet with two rounds of duty under his belt and the scars to prove it
Billy Perkins wasn't half their age but they made a place for him because he was good at poker, above all they wanted to know why he wasn't not good at money other than the chips that he racked often, and above all if he realized that a man his age of his character can be anything he wanted in life, he was on to something big that's what they all thought of him
I'll have that widow hand, No Billy Perkins you can't have that Why not? You're not even married, Well look at me it's my winning hand, What do you know it's your winning hand? See it's two pairs already, say I score a full and a pair, I don't say nobody says that replied Barnes, Or 4 of a kind, ace high Come on now, Why come on, you're not even looking at your hand, don't like what you see? I have a better hand! What you're raising now, Of course am raising, am raising your better hand, Watch out the kid is on a roll
That fishing contest Billy how did it go? asked Harris, We won it, uncle Joe is the best, sold the fish for ten grands I made half of it, That's good money what are you going to do with, repaint the house I guess its been due for a while, Get a new lawnmower too your front yard looks like a jungle he added while fetching a couple of new cards, I was thinking of fixing it, That's what you said last week and the week before that
O’Brien took a long look at Perkins before deciding to share what he had in mind, tell me Perkins that O'Connor guy he's a big shot at the company where you work right? A big shot he's The big shot, used to be president and chairman of the board, Something is fishy about the whole thing, Such as? I've been told that propane tank was installed by a top notch utility business, checked it regularly, last time they did they replaced every joint gave the installation a clean bill of health, 3 months later the whole place blows up like a gas station on fire, wasn't supposed to happen like that
Retired Lt Harris who had listened on while staring at his hand paused his drink, see what you just described is murder for hire, come on now are we saying that rich folk homes don't blow up Brown interjected Brown, listen to the man Harris replied he said wasn't supposed to happen, But still it was a gas leak that did it am I correct, atleast that's what I read on the newspaper, Well there's guys that are into that stuff and they're paid big bucks to make murders for hires look like an accident
I didn't say a word more and kept focused on building my hand, thinking about what just been said, how O'Connor, Sullivan and Richardson had died within weeks, and so who benefited the most, Dillinger and again Dillinger who had an opening for president and chairman of the board, meanwhile he could push back indefinitely his retirement on the grounds that his succession had been hampered
Maybe if they fixed it wrong Brown went on, a botched job, you guys are always trying to make the stuff that happens in this city into a police movie, what do you know about gas Clayton replied O’Brien, what do I know about gas I used to run a retail store, it smells Clayton gas smells, see said Harris, the botched job might be O'Connor instead, did cops drop by at the company? They did answered Perkins coolly, keeping to himself that it wasn't about O'Connor that they showed up and that the murder count at Allstate was already 2 or 3 now by the looks of it, See no wonder, you have two guys who spent too many time doing this and they're saying that somebody punched that propane tank, Not the tank no that can leave traces remarked O'Brien, the joints are more likely
Because they would burn in the fire? Right it's not your everyday plastics but with that kind of temperature they will, If they don't catch who's behind this it's going to be another perfect murder, Perfect murder? That stuff exists? replied Brown, Oh yes it does and it's nothing that we advertise to people, Because you guys can't catch the murderer? No it's worse than that Clayton, we can't prove that it was a murder
Hey Barnes pour me a drink What's the occasion kid, Am doubling the raise, What for? For everyone's been throwing cards like they're yesterday's newspapers, But not the cards you want now Perkins, True haven't seen those, madam widow here is going to hand them right next, Ugly little weasel, Now now what's wrong with having a little drink
What on earth was he up to, a bigger pay no he was already well off, they all were, there had to be something else far more potent and sinister to justify his deadly power play, most of all the risks he took, Allstate was no small fish, 3rd largest insurance company amongst those who operated solely in the U.S, worth tens of billions
Am going all in gentlemen, Are you kidding us! It's several rounds we've been doubling that raise! Sergeant It's time to suck in the pain, What is it with suck in the pain, My favorite part, the single most telling line about war and about life, it's in the movie, What movie again? Barnes movie war movie, tell us about the alligators Barnes, There was no alligators in Vietnam, You sure look like you've been bitten by one, How come you're not a rich guy already since you're so cocky asked Barnes? Am hood rich, every week I come here and rack those chips Not always no, True sometimes I sit next to the bottle, Ouch
So? Am folding, Same here, Same, Barnes you're in? Let's see what you have, what I have is all in want to go all in? Not this time but I'll get you next time ugly weasel, I guess that's it, was nice playing you gentlemen partners, always a pleasure, Not so fast partner Perkins you have to pay the house, There you go Harris make my day, It's every other week that you always keep forgetting, But you don't
Let's see that hand you have, Does anybody look into a grave before getting in, That's it he had nothing but those two pairs, who let you sit next to the dealer anyways, The dealer sat next to me what should I do tell him to bounce, You think you're so clever, Look at you, you sat next to the bottle, Bluffers come with big mouths, Well you should have known Harris, He's been robbing us like that when he has nothing going he bluffs, Then I might have something going, Keep bluffing Perkins
How much did you make? Let's see there's a couple of upcoming games and I have to fork the beer cases at Barnes, Clayton asked me to take his car to the car wash stick me with bill plus extra for the leather chairs, O’Brien well what do you know he's got groceries he wants me to pick up any given Sunday, and Harris just raked me, Don't say that word, Why it's true, Keep things going for the club, Oh it's a club now? What do you think look at all the decoration
Was he after all of it why… Pretty much anyone else could arrive to the same conclusion as I did, police included especially the police, making him the prime suspect, or maybe in the back of his mind he thought he was so cunning that he could pull his moves without so much as a citation, so far he had succeeded that's the thing… The papers said the blast was an accident, and Richardson and Sullivan seemingly killed each others
That hand Perkins? It's there on the table, Can we? Go ahead what's the poker night for, What does he have? Aces full of kings!, Ugly little weasel, Keep going Perkins you'll get places, So he wasn't bluffing after all? Yeah it's the same to me Clayton, He's got something this young fellow, We agree on that, we said it over and over again, but he doesn't seem to know what it is himself, He's a good kid Harris he will find out when it's time, He doesn't look in a hurry and what do you know about time, it flies
Look at the hand that he has continued O'Brien, didn't even show it what does tell us about him Harris, Keeping his cards close to his chest, knows best in life than to show his cards and when you know that his age in life you already know a great deal, I think paused Clayton, no I am convinced that he can be anything he wants in life, Well he's got us posted about what it's going to be replied Harris

Recent books, non fiction -
Karen Brooks Hopkins, BAM...and Then It Hit Me - this is Brooks Hopkins' memoir of her 36-year career at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), where she initially worked in development and ultimately became the CEO. Brooks Hopkins (or KBH, as she seems to be referred in an institution where acronyms are beloved) is not a great memoirist, but she is clearly an incredibly skilled fundraiser and marketer, and her accounts of honing those skills and putting them to use is fascinating despite rather lackluster accounts that make hardly any space for her or anyone else's inner life. There are a lot of things that are warped and rotten about the whole US system of philanthropy and arts funding; Brooks Hopkins isn't writing as a critic of those systems, but as an extremely canny player of them. I don't think this would be very interesting to people who aren't already invested in BAM and its role in the NYC arts scene, but I enjoyed it a great deal.
Nicole Chung, All You Can Ever Know - memoir of Chung's experience as a transracial adoptee (her birth parents are Korean and her adoptive parents are white), and her journey to learning about and ultimately reconnecting with her birth family. Chung writes gently and empathetically about the complexities of her family experience, but at times it felt like she was holding back (maybe out of consideration for her many still-living family members), and I found myself wanting more (for example, we never actually hear from her how she decided to return to using her birth family's last name, though we know she does because it's how the book is signed). The most moving thread of the story, and the one that will stay with me the most, was the the story of Chung's reconnection with her birth sister.
Reginald Dwayne Betts, A Question of Freedom: A Memoir of Survival, Learning, and Coming of Age in Prison - Betts is a poet (whose poetry I loved before reading this book); this is the memoir of the 8 years he spent incarcerated for a carjacking he committed at 16. I thought this was excellent; I love Betts' style, and his gaze both on the world around him and on his own inner experience was vivid and astute. Many prison memoirs focus on how the author's experience was exceptional in some way, often because they were falsely convicted and don't 'belong' there (as though anyone 'belongs' in a prison); the strength of Betts' book is in the way that he holds at once onto the knowledge that his experience was profoundly statistically unexceptionable, alongside the specificity and uniqueness of his own inner world. Betts writes with great nuance about the quotidian indignities and humiliations of incarceration alongside the beauty of the human connections he makes with the other men there. I loved the way he wrote about his own crime of conviction, his reflection on "choosing to make someone a victim" and how prison never gave him any space to contend with that. Recommended.
Judith Flanders, A Place for Everything: The Curious History of Alphabetical Order - another instance of reading Flanders and being disappointed. This had some fun trivia, but didn't come together into a thesis in the way I would hope.
Robin Wall Kimmerer, Gathering Mosses - I know Kimmerer's more recent book, Braiding Sweetgrass, has gotten a lot of acclaim; I haven't read that one yet. This is a collection of gentle essays on Kimmerer's career studying moss. I know nothing about this field, but Kimmerer's ability to describe the natural world and her obvious love for the mosses she studies carried me along easily, and I enjoyed this a great deal.
Susanne Foitzik and Olaf Fritsche, Empire of Ants - another book by a biological about a field which I know nothing about, though with a very different tone. Foitzik is breezy and playful in her descriptions of the world of the ants she studied; I was very interested in the topic, but sometimes wished she would slow down and cut back a bit on the jokes.

A Helping Hand pt. 5
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 |
{gif found on google}
a/n: i've had this collecting dust in my drafts since i posted the last chapter, which, if i'm not mistaken, was november of last year. yes, i know, a very long time. but, i'm back and hoping to whip out more writing, so if you want to be added to my taglist, be sure to let me know!
summary: reminiscing about crime shows is fun until you see someone quite literally eviscerate two people in front of you. (that makes no sense but i didn't know how else to put it lol)
warnings: michael being mean and sadistic, murder house (yes, that place needs a warning), brief mention - murder & erasing of souls, sexual innuendos, (i think that's all, but if i've missed any, please let me know)
word count: 1.9K (i think this is the longest one)
"Come in." His repeated words rang through the somewhat quiet hallway. Swallowing a lump in your throat, you nodded meekly and stepped into the room. You could see Michael shutting the door from the corner of your eye, and when he came into view, you quickly averted your gaze.
"Let me ask you something." You didn't have the opportunity to respond before he began speaking, "What made you hurt her? The girl? What could she have done to make you do what you did?"
"I..." You were at a loss for words. After your first meeting with him, you hadn't expected him to bring her up again. More so, you didn't want him to bring her up. Something told you that he knew why you had done what you had. He seemed to know any and everything before you even told him. It was like he had a seventh sense, knowing how people truly felt. You say seventh because he had a sixth sense - knowing what one was thinking.
The one question on your mind was: Did I like hurting her? The answer, also the problem, was that you weren't sure.
You wandered around the room, trying to buy yourself some time so that you could figure out what to say. Instead of answering, you asked a question, "Do you like hurting people? Did you like hurting me?"
"You're asking me if I derive satisfaction by inflicting pain on others?" You nodded, walking over to his closet. Something was pulling you toward it. "Well, there is a certain enjoyment one can get from seeing someone cower in fear because of them."
You were about to remark on how sadistic he sounded when the energy radiating off the armoire drew you in. The doors were slightly ajar, just wide enough that you could see the plethora of dark clothing it held. What caught your eye was what looked to be leather barely poking out, almost like a snake, slithering out just enough to spot its victim.
You could hear Michael talking as you crept even closer to the armoire, a hand reaching out to grasp the leather material. Just as your fingertips made contact with it, you closed your eyes, feeling a woosh a wind fly past you. A shiver rolled down your body as you rubbed your arms, wishing you had slipped on your robe as the nightgown did little to cover you.
The coldness slowly slipped away as a warm ray hit your skin. As you opened your eyes, a bright light blinded you, causing you to blink a few times to adjust. There was a slight breeze mixing nicely with the warmth of the sun. The sun - you hadn't felt the sun since the day of the blast.
Where am I? You thought as you slowly turned around, basking in the nice weather. Chatter broke you out of your reverie, and you stopped turning to see two women holding boxes. You went to say something, but the two seemed to ignore your presence.
They strolled past you, and you followed behind them, walking into an old Victorian house, one that looked oddly familiar to you. The energy radiating off the house felt dangerous, evil even. But maybe it was that exact sinister nature that lured you closer.
Boxes surrounded the entryway, and you could only assume that the women were moving into the house. Why anyone would willingly live in a place like that was lost on you. If you had a choice, you would gladly live as far away from it as you could.
You took in the grandeur of the house. It was as if though you had walked into a modern Victorian era museum. Except, you would have never entered it if you knew what you were about to witness.
The walls appeared to be alive as if they held secrets. Secrets left behind by the unlucky souls that passed through. The decorum of the interior vaguely reminded you of one of the houses in a crime show you'd watched.
Maybe then wasn't the best time to reminisce about your pre-apocalypse life. You remembered in that particular episode, a murderer with an ax to grind (literally) killed off everyone, decorating each room with splashes of fresh, blood-red paint.
Pushing that very detailed image to the recesses of your mind, you wandered around, eyes grasping in the beauty of the house. It was beautiful but deadly - a combination you weren't all that fond of.
But, hey, what can you do when one moment you're trying not to get killed by a devilishly handsome, sadistic motherfucker, and the next, you're having a weird vision of sorts.
You weren't sure how far you'd ventured through the labyrinth-like halls, but you somehow found yourself standing in front of a door that most likely led to the basement.
A chill settled in your bones when you placed your hand on the cold doorknob. Shaking your head, you turned around and attempted to make your way back to the front.
Of course. Because watching horror movies and crime shows where the dumb characters go into the dark, scary basement has never taught you anything, Y/N.
Silently berating yourself for acting like an idiot, which granted you were most of the time, even more so at that moment, you noticed you were back at the front door. It was closed. Odd, you thought with a tilt of your head, I could've sworn this was open...
A blood-curdling scream stopped you dead in your tracks, and, with your heart lodged deep in your ass, you slowly turned around to see what happened.
The two women from before, the ones who were laughing just minutes before were now dead. And no, not just dead, but murdered by someone in what looked to be a latex bodysuit.
Your eyes widened as a hand covered your mouth. What the actual fuck... Your mind was racing a thousand thoughts per hour, and you felt as those you could throw up any minute.
A man slumped against the wall was speaking to the person in the suit. You couldn't even hear the conversation; blood was rushing through your ears, roaring like loud waves against the current.
You'd been kidding about the crazy ax murderer. You hadn't expected this to happen. At this point, you didn't care who the hell this psychopath was or what the hell those people did to him. All you wanted was to leave, and that's what you were about to do when something caught your attention.
A burning smell came from behind you. Even though you should've been running for the hills, your curiosity (also idiocy) got the best of you. Hesitantly looking up, your breath caught in your throat at the sight before you.
The carbon copies of the dead bodies curled on the floor were screaming in agony as the hot flames engulfed them. You didn't know what was happening, but you were sure that it was far from a simple murder; this was torture.
Stumbling backward, your hand grasped for the doorknob. The rush of the wind hit your neck, and with one last look, you met a surprisingly familiar pair of cold blue eyes.
A sharp gasp left you. Bent over, your hands resting on your knees, you took notice of the fact that you were no longer in the house. You were back at the Outpost, more specifically, back in the room with him.
"Are you alright? You look quite shaken up." Michael rested his hand on your shoulder, causing you to shrug it off, backing away from him.
"Get the hell away from me." Six simple words, words that someone could usually comprehend. But, it turns out Mr. Sadistic, who was walking closer to you, didn't.
"Now, now, little one. Is that any way to talk to your superior?" He tutted as if you were a misbehaving child, and he was the stern adult.
Your nose flared at the little pet name as you stood your ground and crossed your arms over your chest. "First, don't call me that. Second, stop talking to me like I'm a goddamn child. And three, who the hell are you?"
Your little act of "defiance" didn't phase him. If anything, it spurred him on as he advanced until he was standing across you.
"I'm sure you mean, 'what the hell are you?' And, to answer that question, I'll tell you at a more appropriate time."
"Listen, I don't care who- excuse me, what the fuck you are. Just stay away from me." While you weren't expecting him to give up easily (though it would have been nice), your words had no effect on him whatsoever.
He sighed, taking a single step forward. "Don't you think your language is a bit much? I'm not fond of this little attitude you have. Now, why don't you be a good girl and quit while you're still in my good graces?"
You could have just let it go, let him have his way. But there was something about submitting to someone like him that you just couldn't do.
"I'm sorry, your highness. I sincerely apologize for not wanting to be around a psycho like you." The subtle smirk that had crept on your face quickly wiped away.
His upper lip twitched before he pushed you against the wall, the coldness seeping through the thin material of your nightgown. You'd almost forgotten he was still naked until you felt his "little friend" touching your leg. Turns out it wasn’t so little after all...
With his hand firmly grasping your jaw, he peered down at you, his eyes even darker than before. It was at that very moment you realized how much you'd fucked up.
"It's like you want me to punish you." Michael paused, grinning at how you swallowed harshly, obviously trying to keep your fear down. He liked, no loved, the way it made him feel. There was something so captivating about making someone submit to him by choice or not.
His fingers, moving at a lecherous pace, wrapped themselves around your throat. "I give you chance after chance..." his grip tightened, "and yet, you still find some way to piss me off."
"I-" You paused, very mindful of the way his thumb caressed the length of your throat as he squeezed harder. "You're hurting me."
"Oh?" He asked in feign concern, "Am I? Well, maybe I wouldn't be if you learned to shut your mouth sometimes."
"I'll scream.” You forced yourself to look him in the eyes. They were void of any emotion, and maybe you were biased, but it felt like you were staring into the depths of Tartarus.
His chuckle shocked you, "You really think anyone in here gives a damn about you? I could kill you, and they would be happy because there's more food for them. Don't think for one second that you're not disposable."
Michael tilted your head up, pouting at the stern look on your face and the tears building in your eyes. It was patronizing, humiliating. This was when you wished you went ahead with your plan to shove Venable's cane up his ass.
"And, if you do scream," his free hand came gliding up your leg, pushing the hem of your nightgown up. Your breath hitched as his cold fingers came to rest on your inner thigh. "I won't hesitate to shove something in your mouth, and as much as I would enjoy that, I don't think you would very much."
"Now," he loosened his grip on your neck, laughing when you let out a breath of air, "I suggest you go on back to your room, little one."
And that's exactly what you did - no quippy remarks, no sarcastic comments. Whoever or whatever he was scared you, and you'd be damned if the thing that wiped you out was a sadistic person, if could even call him that, like him.
a/n: the ending was horrible but at least i tried. hopefully it wasn’t too confusing. let me know what you think

Toxic
TITLE: Toxic
CHAPTER NO./ONE-SHOT: One-shot
AUTHOR: fanfictrashdump
ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki loves telling everyone that he fears nothing and no one. Tony asks him to check in on Character, who has been in a pissy mood all week. Loki chuckles. “Oh, I fear no one, but I’m not suicidal.”
+
The first sign that Loki was a soft boy wasn’t anything big or particularly mushy. He stopped on the street and got down on one knee to help a boy whose laces had come undone and was struggling to do them up himself.
RATING: T
NOTES/WARNINGS: I entirely forgot about this one-shot in my drafts. I kinda lost steam with it and I decided to post it kind of unedited, so there should be errors and boring valleys galore! Language! Reference to suicide.
SUMMARY: Lily is usually a sweetheart, but there’s a bit of poison flowing through her veins, right now. Meanwhile, Loki has a short bout of good conscience.
=
“Where are you going?”
Lily jumped, startled, immediately grimacing as her left shoulder smarted. Her arm was in a sling, having crash-landed onto it during a mission last week. The medic had said that she had likely torn one of the tendons in her rotator cuff, but that they would not be able to do anything about it until the swelling came down. Now, her whole arm lay useless in its cloth cradle while the other side bore the weight of bags and baskets.
“Um…,” she hesitated in her place, unsure as to why she was feeling a little like a schoolgirl caught out doing something she wasn’t supposed to. Well, maybe it was the fact that Stark had told her I don’t want you doing anything for the next month… “I was just going to the bodega. I’m out of snacks.”
“No.”
For a second, they stood in silence, staring each other down while she waited to see if there was going to be anything added to his sentiment. “That’s it?” He nodded, looking bored. “Yeah, I’m not a child. I’m going to the bodega.”
Loki groaned. “Lilian…”
“Not my name, dude.” She made the mistake of bumping into his shoulder with her injured side. On any other occasion, with any other human, it would have been no issue. Loki, however, seemed to be as dense as the center of a collapsing star, and though he barely swayed from his spot, she let out a sharp hiss and gritted her teeth painfully.
“You humans are so pathetically feeble, I swear,” he remarked, bending at the knees to gently prod at her shoulder. “Give me the list, I’ll collect your supplies.”
“No,” she replied, instantly, imitating his haughty tone, perfectly.
“Don’t be a child. I can go there and back faster than you can.”
Baby blues shot up and hardened at him. “What do you need? What leverage are you trying to get?” Loki frowned, tilting his head minutely to explore her incensed semblance. “You know what? I don’t care. I don’t need to be coddled. I can take care of myself just fine.”
“I didn't–”
“Leave me alone!” With the last shouted syllable, her veins glowed bright green and thorns seemed to sprout from every bit of her skin. Loki held his hands up in surrender, and took a step back for good measure.
With one last withering look, she skirted past his imposing form, and pressed the elevator call button. The doors opened almost instantly, and she slipped in, pressing the button for the ground floor. She did not expect, however, for the elevator to dip slightly under the weight of another person. Despite the fact that she had not seen Loki follow her to the hallway, he was standing there, silently, a few feet between them as they rode the elevator down in silence.
At the lobby, he waited for her to exit the car first, following like a spectre right after. They had made it half a block before Lily could no longer resist the urge to scream, and she turned on her heel to face a calm Loki.
“What the hell are you doing?”
Loki fought the smile creeping onto his lips for a bare minute. “Accompanying you. I thought that much was obvious.”
“I don’t. Need. A babysitter.”
“Never said you did, flower,” he riposted, off-handedly before he gestured her ahead.
Letting out a barely restrained groan, she stomped her way back down the street towards the bodega. Loki, for the most part, followed silently, gently fetching things from the top shelf that he knew she was trying to get to, crowding her side when other people got a little too close, generally treating her like she was a porcelain doll about to shatter.
It was annoying the shit out of her.
The bodega owner had barely reacted when she slammed her basket down and unpacked her groceries to pay for them. Her usually charming, chummy demeanor was extinct and replaced by a surly, snarled lip. Why would he be doing this? Was it just to drive home the point that he thought she was incompetent? Weak? Whatever it was, it was gnawing at her very soul and all she wanted to do was to go back to the tower and hide in her room until her shoulder had recovered.
Snatching her receipt from the bodega owner, she turned away from the counter. “Let’s get moving, Snakeb… Loki?” She glanced left and right, not finding him there, nor could she feel the heaviness of his presence anywhere around her. She glanced out the glass doors and found her missing demigod on the sidewalk. A child of about five or six, who was clearly waiting for his mother to get through with her transaction at the bodega, stood still with a gentle smile. Loki was down on one knee, equally easy grin on his face with a shoelace in either hand.
“I’ll show you again. Pay close attention, alright?” He pulled the strings up taut and made two loops. “Around the trunk of Yggdrasil, the little rabbits go, they twine around the knitted roots and sink deep down below. After they have had their fun they jump up to spring free, but every part of their spirit’s tied to the Great Tree,” he singsonged, knotting the laces easily. “Got that?”
The child nodded, giggling before going off with his mother who was looking at Loki a little too hard to be comfortable.
Loki glanced up, sensing Lily staring and offered her a smile she didn’t return. “Are you ready?”
“You taught him how to tie his shoes.”
He brushed aside her prickly tone, unbothered. “Yes… is that a crime, now?”
“Why?”
“He didn’t know how.” He shrugged, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“I thought you didn’t like weak things.”
“You know, at some point you’re going to have to tell me why you’re so cross at me.” He snapped, finally, though he didn’t look angry. Disappointed, maybe? Sometimes it was damn near impossible to place any emotion on his face that wasn’t blind rage.
“I heard you talking to Tony, OK? When I was taken to the medbay, she snapped back with double the fervor.
Loki sighed, counting backwards from ten. He was fond of the mutant and he didn’t want to frighten her by barking at her, as he would anyone else. "Despite what you might think, that doesn’t help explain anything.”
“You told Tony I was weak and didn’t belong in the field!” She shrieked, pushing her index finger into his chest. It hurt her more than it did him, but it was a matter of principle.
“No. I told him it was stupid to send you out to the field to somewhere you’d become weak. Foot-thick steel walls zap your energy and I warned him repeatedly about the repercussions. You got hurt because of it.”
Her anger sputtered and idled at the clarification. “You were looking out for me…?”
Loki laughed, a little mirthlessly. “Imagine that,” he replied, sarcastically. He reached out for her basket, carrying the snack-laden vessel himself to give his hands something to do as he marched stoically down the street. People seemed to sense his mood, as they all parted like the Red Sea for him, though they barely allowed her enough space to squeeze through. Glancing backwards, he caught her eye, slowing his pace considerably to allow her to catch up.
“But… you hate me.”
A little notch formed between his brows as he considered her closely. “When have I ever said that? You’re my friend. I don’t make friends with people I hate… Or people… Or make friends, in general, so you should count yourself very bloody lucky.”
Lily shuffled uncomfortably where she stood, and Loki could have sworn there was a flash of a shadow over features, but it was gone a moment after.
“Can we go back or are you going to stand here and glare at me some more?” He joked easily, gesturing down the street with his chin. The mood seemed to lighten, instantly. He didn’t pay her transient anger any mind.
Perhaps he should have.
The Tower was tense, to put it simply. Laughter, which was commonplace whenever the team was home, was nothing more than a distant memory. It seemed like every little noise and movement set off a chain reaction of unpleasantness from what was usually their most pleasant resident. No one had really expected this side effect. After all, when the mutant decided to tell Tony her secret after having worked for him for five years, she assured that she had it well under control. And it was. Her abilities were second nature at this point. Of course, the pressures of battle are something else, entirely, and little quirks popped up just as little quirks are wont to do.
And pop up, they did.
The first time it happened, the team had come back from mission somewhere in the South Pacific. They were all tired and sun-baked enough that if they never saw the great wide ocean ever again, it would be too soon. Heroes all piled into the kitchen with far too many containers of Chinese food, chatting in quiet hushed tones to give their raw throats and over-sensitive ears a chance to rest.
In the far end of the kitchen, Lily stood on her tip toes. Her small frame strained to reach a mug at the very top of the cabinet so she could make herself some tea. Steve, helpful and gentlemanly as ever, rested a hand on the small of her back to signal her that he was there. Reaching above her, he easily grasped the mug, offering her the handle with a dazzling smile.
Usually, she would beam up at the soldier and give his hand a squeeze. Today, her eyes narrowed dangerously. “What, do you think I can’t fucking get a mug now, Rogers?” She snapped, and the soft murmur of the room cut out immediately.
As if in slow motion, they whole team craned their necks over to where the pair stood. Steve had frozen in well-placed shock, mouth opening and closing to grasp for an appropriate apology that he couldn’t understand why he owed. Guilt flashed for but a second across Lily’s features before she cracked her neck awkwardly. Her veins, which would glow a bright green only when using her abilities, pulsed a sludgy brown. She had barely mumbled an apology before going off to hide in her bedroom.
That first encounter had been the mildest, by far.
No one had any idea how to remedy the situation. After all, Lily was usually such a bundle of bright, brilliant energy. She was the one who would always wake up to make breakfast for the group, leave them flowers, bake cookies when one of them seemed sad–she was not a dark, angry entity that yelled at her fellow teammates. Or snarled at anyone for entirely arbitrary reasons (that was Loki’s job, after all). The attitude usually waned after a few days and she’d be back to her bubbly self, which was all the more terrifying.
Right now, however, they were in a dark period.
“Are you truly using a children’s game as a selection tool for whom has to go disturb the plant witch from her self-imposed exile?” Loki asked, a little smugly as he happened upon Natasha and Tony playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to take Lily her new uniform. “You’re pathetic.”
“Don’t act like the sudden goth girl phase isn’t weird. I can tell she scares you,” Nat quipped, rolling her eyes.
Loki gave her a withering stare, looking smug as he circled her in a predatory manner that annoyed the hell out of her. “I fear no one and nothing, Miss Romanov.”
Tony snorted, before a glimmer in his eye sparked and left Loki looking weary. “OK, great. How about you go take this to her, then?” Tony held the bundle for Loki to take.
Loki chuckled, knowing full well the terror that the woman could inflict if provoked. “I said I feared nothing. I didn’t say I was suicidal.” He considered a little longer. “Well, not anymore, anyway.” Tony frowned, making a mental note to follow up at a later date.
“Come on! You two seem to be all buddy-buddy the rest of the time, anyway. Why don’t you just look in on her?”
The god rolled his eyes. “Has it ever occurred to you idiots that perhaps she’s protecting us and not herself when she locks herself away?”
“You are absolutely no help. Fine, Nat–” Tony turned around, sweeping his gaze left and right. “Nat? Where the hell did Nat go?” Frowning, he turned back around to glance at Loki and, instead, found himself alone. “Yeah! Great! Let's… er… regroup later! Good… talk…”
=
Loki sat at the kitchen table, poking at the, frankly disgusting, plate of eggs and bacon that Bruce had genuinely put all his effort into making for the crew. Glancing around the table, he found a sea of faces with the same sad expression. They all definitely longed for Lily’s pancakes and bacon breakfasts right about then. Loki was the only one who wasn’t even making an effort to be polite and put down some of the meal down his gullet. He had eaten some pretty grim things in his life, but he was not about to make that conscious decision when he wasn’t under any type of duress.
“It’s been two weeks, Tony,” Clint quipped, oddly undisturbed by the state of breakfast and munching full speed ahead. “She’s never been dark for this long.”
“I know. Is this you volunteering?”
“Last time I volunteered, I nearly got impaled on barbed thorns the size of my arm. I barely made it out without looking like Swiss cheese.”
“Barbs?” Loki asked, tilting his head curiously.
Clint nodded, eyes widening. “Yep. Big ones.”
Tony caught the whiff of an idea brewing in Loki’s mind. “Why? What are you thinking, Reindeer Games?”
Loki frowned, waving off the interest. “Nothing. Making a rather satisfying image in my head,” he replied, earning him a dark look from Clint and an annoyed sigh from the rest of the table. It wouldn’t do well to get their hopes up, after all.
After breakfast, Loki found himself pacing the corridor of their living quarters. Lily was only a few doors down and had not seen much of anyone in the whole two weeks since they had gotten back from mission. His brain continually told him that there was nothing he could do, no way for him to remedy this situation. That whatever this state of being was, he would only make it worse. It was better if he just went back to his room and waited for her to seek him out.
And yet, there was a small little voice in the back of his mind, his conscience, he would begrudgingly admit, that urged him to knock on her door.
She would go to the ends of the earth for you, if you needed it, it soothed.
The thought sparked images of the annoyingly sweet woman keeping his handful of secrets and being genuinely interested in his life. He could admit that his conscience was speaking the truth, but only because he knew the imp had little in the way of common sense and self-preservation. This was not the creature hissing at them all from across the threshold, though. And, why would he willingly put himself in the line of fire?
Out of the corner of his eye, a figure caught his attention. A vase of flowers on the windowsill, one of her creations. They were no longer the fresh white daisies they had been when they were placed there. Now they looked like some sort of Nightshade and he was certain they were not the nice kind.
“Oh, you fucking bleeding heart,” he ground out with a groan just as his conscience won out. Without allowing himself time to think or change his mind, he pounded his fist on her door. “Open up or I’ll break it down, Lilian.”
“Fuck off, popsicle!” Her voice was rough and shuddering, like she was trying very hard to keep everything out–or herself in.
Loki swallowed at the venomous retort that brewed at the tip of his tongue on its own accord. Being the bigger person was never quite his forte (nor did it ever get him good results), but he was able to reign himself back in. Rolling his eyes, Loki placed his hand on the door, letting the golden glow of magic envelop it before a satisfactory click let him know that it was open. He had barely crossed the threshold when he jumped back with a yelp.
On the floor, where flowers usually formed a dense, soft carpet, were twisting brambles and thorns. Flytraps and pitcher plants lined the walls, all too large to be considered just houseplants, and blooms burst open, letting out plumes of pollen that Loki dared not to breathe.
This was definitely worse than what he was expecting.
His eyes tore away from the dark forest with a little effort. “Lily,” he tutted softly, watching the woman tucked into a tight ball, tears leaking from her tightly lidded eyes.
It should have been obvious to him. Every living creature had a defense mechanism. Predators had their teeth, prey had their speed, and plants had adapted in similar fashion. Thorns, barbs, poison, giant vats of acid–they had made sure that their lineages survived. It stood to reason that Lily’s mutation, tired of the fighting and the constant worry of missions would also develop some dark effect. Since she wasn’t allowing herself to be dry and acerbic to her friends, her biology had found an alternate solution.
He should have thought of it before.
“Gods, how much pain are you in?” He asked, kneeling beside her on the bed. He ignored the spines digging into his trousers from where he walked through some cacti. There was no response, but rather a whimper and a sigh. “Flower, look at me.”
“Leave me alone, you self-aggrandizing asshole,” she growled, not bothering to open her eyes.
The corner of his mouth twitched, even as he pushed her hair out of her scowling face. It had gone from a bright silver to a dark, smoky grey. “You forgot self-serving and maddeningly good looking.”
“You’re not funny.”
“Agree to disagree.” At his touch her skin erupted in prickers as though they were goosebumps. He swallowed the hiss at getting his fingers skewered, blood pooling at the tips.
Lily’s fists flew in his direction, though he easily caught them in one hand. This time the groan of pain wasn’t silent and blood trickled down his wrists from his palms. “Stop it! Don’t touch me! FRIDAY, he’s hurting me!”
“Disregard that, FRIDAY. Lily, I swear–” She struggled in his grasp, eyes opening and flashing pitch black at him. He was shocked enough that he released her wrists. Her nails grew into sharp wooden talons and just as she reared back to swipe at him, Loki had enough sense to lay his hand on her temple and command, “Sleep.” Her body stiffened and slumped down a second later. “That bloody stings,” he complained, letting her rest back on the bed and bringing the covers over her oddly cool skin.
Loki couldn’t help but compulsively stroke his fingers through her hair, eyebrows pulled together in concern. For all his knowledge of magic and aliens and different realms, he could not figure out for the life of him how to soothe the poison threatening to consume her. In her slumber, she whimpered, shuffling closer to the gentle heat that radiated off of him in waves. Loki convinced himself that he was allowed to dote on her, so long as she wasn’t conscious to remember it. The sludgy brown lines going up and down her exposed skin lightened somewhat under his careful evaluation. Enough that he did not feel threatened when he tapped at her temple and took the sleeping spell off.
He offered a small smile when her eyes blinked up at him in confusion. They were back to their normal baby blue, though her hair still resembled plumes of smoke. “Easy,” he whispered as she jerked away from his touch, all at once. Instead of a hiss or an insult, she frowned, settling back to rest against the pillows, body barely brushing against his. “You’re safe.”
Lily nodded, breathing deeply. This time she didn’t hesitate when he brushed his fingers over her hair. “What are you doing?”
“Tending the garden.”
She rolled her eyes, exasperated. “I’m not a garden.”
“Yeah, you are. A few brambles and prickles here and there. Nothing a good prune and a hug won’t fix.” He used his index finger to lift her chin, having essentially buried herself into one of her pillows, cheeks burning. “You don’t have to keep us safe, flower. Sometimes, you’ll need to vent all that ill will and it is not up to you to avoid that.”
“Says the frost giant masquerading as an Asgardian.”
Loki let out a bark of laughter. “I think I liked you more unconscious.” Sadness flashed through her features, eyes downcast. “I was joking. You know I was.”
Lily nodded and the two fell into a tense silence for a long while. The mutant had sat up, fidgeting with her hands on her lap while Loki watched her, expectantly. He wouldn’t press her, of course, but he could tell that there was something on her mind that she wanted to get out in the open. When she didn’t say anything, he simply placed his hand over hers and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“I’m scared,” she blurted out.
“Well, you’re very scary so that makes sense.” The look she gave him told him that was not the answer she wanted and before she could look even more dejected, he added. “And that’s good. You’re powerful. You should be scary. Scary keeps you safe. Fear is a great motivator.”
Loki was starting to panic. It didn’t seem like any of what he was saying was helping her, though it was possibly the most honest and candid he had ever been. If anything, the quickly gathering tears in her eyes told him that he was making it leaps and bounds worse. Shouldn’t she be ecstatic that she could make anyone bend to their will by looking a little ominous? She certainly had the whole of the Avengers acting like she was some sort of displeased deity.
Except she wasn’t. She was gentle and giving and cared. It was becoming very apparent that this was her own personal hell.
“I don’t fear you,” he muttered, brushing hair away from her face. This time there were no barbs to prick him. “And honestly, the rest of these idiots don’t, either. They’re just worried for you.”
“I don’t know how to fix it.”
“Maybe because there’s nothing to fix. I’m guessing that with a little training you can learn to use… whatever the hell this is to your advantage.” His mouth twitched in a small smile. “Sometimes you must learn to embrace the darkness, dear.”
Lily was quiet for another long while, picking at her nails while she thought hard. “Loki?”
“Yes, pet?”
“Can I have a hug if I promise not to tell anyone?”
Loki barked out a laugh, pulling Lily into his arms and squeezing her tightly. “I don’t give a shit if you tell anyone. They probably won’t believe you, anyway,” he murmured into her hair, noting the soot-like material that clung to his fingers as he stroked her hair, turning it back to silver. “Don’t suppose you know if this is dangerous or not?” Lily shook her head against his chest. “Of course you don’t. Why would you?” The mutant giggled against him when he squeezed her a little tighter.
“Loki?” The Prince hummed his recognition against her crown. “Thank you for being a good friend.”
It took Loki supreme effort to blink away the tears that for some reason had sparked to his eyes, unbidden, at the sentiment. “It is my distinct honor, flower.” Comfortable silence filled the room for a moment longer. “I also couldn’t take Bruce’s cooking for another day.”
Lily scoffed, pushing away from his chest with a glare. “Why? Why do you ruin it?”
“Have you met me? Come on!”
“I hate you. Next time I’m poisoning you,” she whined, pulling Loki after her.
“Where are we going?”
“I can tell you haven’t eaten because you’re a child. We’re going to the kitchen.”
Loki grinned, following dutifully after her, as if the imp had any physical means to drag him anywhere. “Do I get pancakes?”
“No!”
“Please?”
“…fine.”

Stephan growled walking into work slamming the door behind him he was fuming.
"FLETCHER! WHERE ARE YOU?!" He shouted walking past one the one of the others who was doing their shift ignoring the confused look she cast him, he didn't have time to explain going into the kitchen out back that had a set of stairs leading up into the small chic apartment Fletcher used for entertaining his 'lady friends'. Stomping up the stairs before banging on the door he knew that his 'boss' was here, he had already checked his other home. Finally a weary Fletcher opened the door.
"What? Oh Stephan its you what is it?" He grunted rubbing his eyes only to widen them as he was pushed back into the hall by the 'dane'.
"She isn't in the UK is she?" He growled holding the man by the collar of his shirt
"Wh-what? Who are you-"
"Y/n! I saw her earlier today!, she was being carried out of the police department barefoot by that friend of yours! Cavill? Or something ,She was crying her heart out, shaking she was fucking terrified! He put her in a four by four and left! What the fuck have you done?! I know your behind it! Where is she?" Stephan shook in anger the Fletcher quivered he stuttering for an answer.
"Nothing ! I haven't done nothing! She told me she was leaving, had been offered her dream job in the UK then left I swear I don't know! She gave me the flight number and everything! Please I swear. I'll give it to you got the text still check yourself!" Stephan pushed his way into the apartment Fletcher followed quickly getting his phone showing the messages to the irate man.
"See she left, the woman who was taking the job got ill she was second pick that's why it was last minute, the flight numbers there" he said pointing out the long code of letters and numbers he took a step back releasing him. Taking out his phone snapping a shot of the screen nodding he would check, in some ways he regrets taking this job ,agent of the CIA posing as a fucking danish immigrant cafe worker, but Cavill was a big fish who had moved to a small pond and they wanted to know why, what could possibly make the king of the underground and black market suddenly up sticks an move?. Fletcher was the easy way to stay in the loop as Cavill’s men floated about this side of town more then anywhere else, a lot of people owed him in these parts it seemed. Observe and collect evidence. Those were his orders, they'd never managed to pin anything on the bastard he was already far to established, had his fingers in to many pies by the time they caught on. A slippery son of a bitch smart and cold a man of many faces could back you into a corner within a few sentences you'd be none the wiser until it was to late, but as they say never say never. Falling for you wasn't supposed to happen it just did, you was sweet caring and there was something about you that he couldn't put his finger on, your down side was how naive you could be. His chest clenched painfully you stood no chance against someone like Cavill. He shook his head, he had to focus on the task at hand, It was an undercover job, the in tell said that he had dominated the town using sordid secrets, blackmail and violence. A true dictator, just like before and just like before there was a sore in violent crime and substance abuse. Stephan shook as he felt waves of anger, it was lucky he didn't have his gun on him he'd fucking shoot this little prick right between his beady little eyes. He had already guessed what had happened. Cavill had taken you, for what he didn't know but considering you was retrieved by him personally he had assumed you wasn't put into the prostitution circuit. Thank god. His stomach churned at the thought ,he would check the flight records and cctv to be certain, but he new what he saw and come hell of high water he was going to get you out, some way he would free you. He couldn't just yet it was important that they bring him down, he can't risk the lives of hundreds of trafficked prostitutes and drug mules over one woman, no matter how he feels personally, he can't throw away year long operation, he'd be sacked or worse. Sighing he turned
You shivered as you came to melting into the mattress below you something was lightly tracing over your back random patterns back and forth. You hummed lightly and snuggled into the pillow more hearing a chuckle.
"Oh and Stephan don't bother coming back here your fucking fired!" he swore as Fletcher spoke. Shit. He growled punching the wall once he left the cafe heading back to his accommodation, no doubt Fletcher was contacting Henry this very second he'd have to disappear and fast. he could look through flight records and cctv when he gets settled again but right now he had to act as tho he was being targeted, because as of right now he probably was and he'd be damned if he was going to be another K.I.A statistic. He hoped he was wrong, that you had indeed boarded the plane and was half way across the world but he doubted it.
Henry stayed holding you long after the sheets had been changed, for the first time in months maybe years there was a calm quiet in his head, no schemes, no threats or work just a calm quiet enjoying your compliant company. He stroked your hair running his splayed fingers across your scalp. He felt a little guilty for what he put you through...It wasn't supposed to be like this, the kicking and screaming...but he couldn't help it! he didn't have the time anymore. He loved you but you'd forced him to take you. It was your fault he reasoned as he shifted you tucking you into his chest more you murmured in your sleep but relaxed slowly into him. Yes you forced his hand, you were the one who sought out that- that boy when he was busy working getting everything ready to seduce you slowly. It wasn't ideal but whats done is done, Fletcher fucked up and you had to pay for that. He sighed leaning further back into the chair he rested in. He could remember the first time he saw you, standing behind the counter you'd looked up surprised that someone was in so early you beamed him a smile that stopped him in his tracks, you hadn't known who he was he knew because you didn't freeze or cower, instead asked how you could help when he had asked for your boss, you pursed your lips wrinkling your nose a little telling him he wasn't here, but you offered him a coffee while he waited. He'd nodded saying make whatever expecting some shit low brand coffee either way, he stood watching as you disappeared behind the huge machine pouring you both a latte peeping over it making small talk. Watching eagle eyed as you danced around the kitchen beyond the cafe singing quietly mixing together some chocolate treat. Something had just clicked in him, he couldn't help it there was an aura about you as you pottered about the small space. He took slow sips you were beautiful and cheerful enjoying your life to the fullest. He had wanted you then and there you had somehow captured his whole attention, his mind wasn't wandering through dark vicious thoughts, hell he had forgotten the threats he had lined up for your boss who was fucking you over without even knowing. That was when he knew he had to bring you home you was sweet and vulnerable you needed to be protected and loved and he had the means to do that. He had got your name from your boss that day using it the make a file on you, within two days he new everything about you, address ,date of birth, medical history, schools, family history hell he even knew what your shoe size was 2.5 (us 4.5) you hated it finding it impossible to find heels. Then he remembered that night, walking into his own fucking restaurant halting seeing you giggling happily in a small booth near the window, his heart came to a painful screeching halt when he saw you kiss the other man-boy much younger then him, it was as if his whole world had come rushing back in one massive wave of anger and betrayal. He got a small taste of what was in store for him if he didn't have you, he now new what it was he had been missing. He shook the thoughts form his head, you were here with him and that was that finally getting up placing you carefully in the bed tucking you in before shedding his clothes and sliding in beside you ruffling your hair lightly then drifted off into sleep.
"Oh you like that? I will have to remember to save this as a reward" you flinched hearing him so close moving slightly you get ready to roll away from him only to be stopped by his hands pressing down lightly."No, stay there good girl" you frowned as his words were accompanied by a small squeeze to your tender bottom making you hiss and whine a little throwing your hand back to his trying to pry them off.
"Oh yes you are still sore aren't you? A very hot bottom. Good maybe this will help you behave for a while" you winced a little at him not wanting to be reminded of yesterdays events he moved closer to you kissing the back of your neck leaving it tender with a harsh bite."So today is a new start especially now that you've got that little escape attempt out of your system, things will be much easier now wont they?" you grit your teeth not knowing what would come out of your mouth if you tried replying. He moved rolling to his side you felt his eyes on you
"Look at me pet" you did without a thought he smiled almost sweetly at you leaning in placing a kiss on your cheek moving to cup your face slowly running a thumb across the apple of your cheek his lips parted eyes twinkling in the morning sun, you held your breath, he was magnificent yet terrifying you knew that he could easily make you fall for him.
"Soo good such a precious thing love, so beautiful and pure.....I expect you to be a good girl for daddy now you hear me? no more tantrums or pouting I don't want to have to punish you again ,rest assured that yesterday was just the tip of the iceberg I can come up with things much worse for you if you try to push me again. Please don't" You reluctantly closed your eyes before pulling away from his hand looking down to the sheets his words breaking the spell that had caught you ,you nodded he gave you a lopsided smile. He leaned in kissing your hair softly tilting your head and began sucking your bottom lip into his mouth running his teeth across the delicate inside biting it a little his hand dragged through your hair pulling you closer he slid beneath you on to his back tugging you across his chest still holding your head you gasped as a hand rested on your back drawing your nighty up you whined trying to tug it down but he had fisted the hand holding it refusing the let it go once you gave up fighting him he slowly began tracing light patterns as he went pulling the fabric over your hip,s you shiver relaxing as his fingers dragged lazily over your skin, he bit again on your lip harder when you wouldn't open your mouth to his probing tongue in a tiny protest the force of his bite make you gasp in pain using this to his advantage he opened his mouth wider kissing deeper, dipping his tongue into your mouth licking at yours trying to get you to respond. Closing your eyes you moaned softly unable to help your self as his tongue twisted and lapped inside your mouth you squeezed your thighs together as you felt yourself getting hotter, despite being scared of him you couldn't help your bodies reaction to him he was attractive, you was only human you reasoned with yourself before any shame could settling in your gut you melted into him, he was a god of a man you would say he had work done if you hadn't known him, strong defined and unreasonably perfect on the outside, had you been a religious women you'd say he was the devil himself beautiful and dangerous, temptation and sin personified and you was a mere mortal women falling into his claws, everything was about him physically seemed to have been created to draw you in even his scent was attractive engulfing you a combination of the lightly spiced aftershave he wore and something you couldn't name other then to say it was him the scent he left on his clothes and sheets. He deepened the kiss the hand on your back creeping down to your rump quickly pulling you up and over his strong thigh landing you to lie between his legs pressing his crotch to the seam of your thighs using the hand on your bruised ass to grind you slowly, grunting as he moved you up and down. You squeaked feeling a wet spot dragging across his weeping head coating the inside of his boxers seeping through wetting your thighs. He pulled his mouth from yours closing his eyes resting his forehead against yours panting harsh breaths across your skin.
"FUCK! your soo perfect and mine all mine shit that's good baby girl" you whined as your rocking made your heart race blood rushing south to your clit as he grunted groaning pulling you tighter to his pelvis he picked up the pace then stopped growling flipping you over to your back shuffling his boxers off kicking them off of the bed, you gulped as you saw his erection think veins wound around him like vines bulging and pulsing as he twitched. It was an intimidating sight to behold angry and swollen, proud jutting out pointing straight up to his stomach it'd take both hands to try and cover it even then your not sure your palms would even touch the purple head of it let alone cover it. he smirked as you looked at him, there was fear and lust in your eyes, he knew you wanted him deep down, but you was still fighting yourself over it, he fisted himself pumping his cock slowly watching you watch him squirming on the bed, oh yes you wanted him but not enough yet, he made a point to go slow thrusting into his tight fist letting you get an eyeful of his stomach muscles contracting grunting with each movement. You blushed wanting to look away yet unable to it was like watching a crash, you wanted to turn away knowing what was coming but still stared. He stopped releasing himself dragging you up the bed a little before lowering his weight on one hand by your head you panicked thinking that he was going to force himself on you and tried to pushed yourself up the bed away from him pleading.
"No no please! I don't want to! don't force me please please don't!" he stopped hushing you looking you in the eye, you cringed as he brought his wet hand to your face brushing his knuckles against your cheek.
"shh shh calm down little one its okay everything is going to be okay.... daddy wont force you I promise .....no i wont hurt you like that..... besides iv already told you, you wont get my cock until you come crawling on hands and knees begging for it. But there are many other ways I can get my fill until you do come to me gagging for it" he said placing his knees outside of your legs he smirked at your doe like expression confused by what he meant until he laid over you lowering his hips against yours feeding his cock into the small v where your thighs met pressing the top of hit hot length slipping between your pussy lips rubbing your engorged clit, you gasped arching then placed your hands on him, one flat on his chest the other on the bicep by your face shaking as he began moving thrusting his hips forward and back dragging your clit with it
"OOOOHHHH FUCK YES!that it baby fuck so good such a good princess you are for daddy MMMM FUCK!" he panted in your ear using his legs to press your tighs tighter together trapping his cock, making you massage him, you cried out as his veins felt like ridges as he pumped himself against you smearing your arousal across him making it easier for him to move.
"OH BAby yes! your enjoying this aren't you? I can feel your cum soaking me love" you flushed unable to stop trembling as he caught the underside of your clit bumping it his the ridge of his head your moans grew more breathy as he tilted a little to keep hitting it brushing his cock against your opening with every pass , he was long enough that his head was sliding down spreading your sore cheeks apart slightly making your pucker twitch with each downward thrust, he continued his pace trying to draw this out as long as possible, his drawn out moans and praises where breathed straight into your ear as he curled over you the lewd sounds making you clench. You dug your nails into his arm as your belly twisted breath coming out in heavy pants as your pussy tried to capture him at every thrust clenching desperately trying to direct him into your awaiting heat unsatisfied being left empty he laughed biting your ear lobe between his sharp fang like teeth releasing it with a pop.
"You know I can feel that!, feel your little cunt trying catch me, it-hahshit!-its quite cute really OH FUCK! yes!. You want me. Want me to feed you my aching cock and sooth your insides with my cum. To paint your insides again and again until you cant bear the thought of not having apart of me filling you on way or another. Don’t worry babe I wont let got go empty ever again!! All you have to do is BEG!! SHIT SHIT YES THAT'S IT STAY their-AH right there little one ahhh!" you whined as he spoke growling out the words as he rocked into you faster lewd wet slaps as his thick thighs rubbed and slapping into yours you moaned throwing your head back trying to fight the sensations he was forcing onto you.
"YES yesyesugh I know, oh pet I know but I'm not going toOH!, not until you admit to yourself. Not until you admit the truth. You want me. You LOVE me! UGH shit fuck fuck I'm cumming! I'm cumming! good girl shit Daddy's gonna cum right in your little pussylips fuck!" you shook below him as he fucked into your thighs feeling him stutter his hips releasing down into the crack of your ass coating the sheets beneath you. he laughed sweaty holding himself up on shaking arms then ran his cock across you smearing his cum between your lips making sure to leave you messy as he pulled back coating your clit
"OH sweety thank you were such a good girl for daddy" he rolled to the side of you running a finger spreading your lips as he pushed a pad to your cum soaked clit rubbing making you jerk up violently as he rolled the throbbing flesh side to side.
"oh you haven't cum have you? poor baby, well maybe if you'd tried to join in more you would have.... oh well to late now maybe next time hey little one?" he said making you groan as he kissed your lips licking the seem of them them he pulled back licking your lips. You cringed a little wiping away his spit from you he laughed resting on one elbow his other hand ruffled your hair.
"Oh sweetheart you don't like it when I lick you? Oh I bet you would if my head was here" you froze as his wandering fingers probed your core and tried tilting up to him wanting him to carry on, to do... something? anything? tears sprung to your eyes when he pulled back gathering your mixed arousal as he went before sucking them clean groaning as he did.
"sooo good , you taste so good baby I could eat you for hours
""Pl-please daddy" he grinned you was so aroused that you couldn’t deny that you craved him, wanted him to touch you ignoring the little voice that said it was wrong, Henry noticed your little battle continued with a low growl that you felt more then heard, trying to sway you.
"But another time perhaps, tell me would you like that? Would you enjoy your self while daddy feasts on your perfect pink pussy for hours on end? forcing you to cum over and over? I could you know I would be a very happy to oblige" His words were taunting you. You nodded then shook your head confused not sure what you wanted. He smiled before getting off the bed
"But you had your chance today, I cant spoil you now can I? not when I'm supposed to be teaching you your place" he seemed to like having you on edge like this, he plucked his boxers from the floor using them to quickly wipe you down dragging it quickly across you avoiding where you needed him most removing the worst of the sticky cum then through it across the room to the basket. He made his way to the chest of drawers pulling out a black round neck cotton dress decorated with small flowers.
"Come here lets get you dressed" you tilted your head at him as he said that pointing to the floor in front of him. Slowly you moved towards him curling your toes into the hard wood floor fidgeting. He motioned for you to hole
"Wh-what? why? I can dress myself" he sighed exasperated
"I told you that your training starts today little one, you are going to rely on daddy for everything now do as your told pet" his voice was stern again you sighed nodding again.
"Good girl, who knew all you needed was a firm hand? Im confident that we can work this out.... it is a shame tho, if you'd just behaved then I wouldn't have to give you these new rules." You cringed trying not to look at his wet cock swaying with his movements.
"Now arms up" you followed his instructions letting him replace your nighty with the short dress that just skimmed your knees. He watched you for a moment then moved dressing himself in a formfitting top and tight trousers using your nighty to quickly wipe his cock clean, something about the gesture made you feel dirty. Ushering you to the door with a light tug on your wrist you struggled.
"Wait what about? No stop a minute" he ignored continued to the hall
"If you want my attention then address me properly pet." You flushed panicking as he lead you to the door you held on to the frame jerking him to a halt
"Daddy please stop" he faced you still holding your wrist as you held on to the wooden frame.
"What is it princess?" You flushed moving from one foot to the other.
"You haven't given me any .....you know I'm still wet and.......its err I'm naked under this" you said trying to tug the skirt of the dress down completely out of your depth here. He smiled
"Of course you are, what you think I forgot to give you panties? No baby girl that is a new rule, from now on your in skirts and no panties aloud so its easier for me to get at that naughtly little bottom when I need to and easier for daddy to check if his little girl is lying about feeling all tingly , now come on daddy doesn't have all day we have a few visitors today and you best behave or you'll be right over my knee now come on"
"but I’m going to leave wet spots!!"you admonished he laughed
"Yes I suppose you will wont you? If your a good girl daddy will give you a treat later but for now we haven't got the time!" .
"But what if someone see's them?! or-or they see up my skirt?!"he shook his head at your high pitch then tugged making you slip from the door you yelped nervously scanning for the others in the house all the way to the kitchen. One hand holding the skirt tight to your bottom trying to keep it covered wincing as you felt a small trickle of your arousal smear against your upper thighs he scoffed sitting down at the table dragging you onto his lap back against his chest placing your legs either side of his knees spreading you a little, you shivered as the cool air met your wet heat making is impossible to forget the state he had left you in also making sure you felt yourself weeping onto his trousers you moaned in humiliation trying to close your legs but found it hopeless his thighs to strong his bulge was right under your ass and already twitching again.
"Well baby girl, if you act like the little lady I know you are no one will see up your skirt." He said motioning for a plate to be brought over stacked with four slices of toast. You whined trying to wriggle your legs free to close them he held you still groaning in your ear
"No baby stop, fuck daddy just told you we haven't got time for that now!" you pouted at him whining only to get a slap on your thigh you yelped clenching your bottom in response making him dig his fingers in your thigh.
"Enough! not at the table now sit still" he said picking up a small piece of toast holding it to your lips and began feeding you by hand. You flushed feeling exposed as mid way during breakfast the guard from yesterday came in, you knew he couldn't see beneath the table but you couldn't help feeling embarrassed.
"Boss we got a big problem" you watched from the corner eye finishing the mouthful Henry had fed you as you swirled your coffee in your mug then taking a sip trying to focus on anything but the position he held you in you felt Henry sigh exasperated.
"What is it? the Vonnie boys failed a delivery again?" He asked pulling you back to rest on his chest plucking the mug from you placing it on the table then casually lowered his hand to cup your center covering you should the other man peak beneath it, he wouldn't honestly let you be seen by anyone other than himself, the man shook his head.
"No haven't heard from them yet their not due in till this afternoon flight gets in at two its well" he hesitated a moment making Henry growl his hand tightened on your pussy making you mewl trying to push back against him.
"Ive got to many things to do today Luke, spit it out!" His stern voice made you jump tensing as it reverberated through your body, he hushed you kissing your neck.
"Well its to do with the girl, you should see this" he placed a tablet on the table sliding it across Henry huffed and let got of you pulling you to straddle one thigh you moaned quietly as your clit was pushed forward the fabric of his trousers providing friction to the tight bud then began to grind lightly onto it one hand on his knee the other holding the edge of the table, no control of yourself it was far to good to resist Henry quickly put a stop to it striking your sore ass cheek making you yelp holding your hand to it pouting as he held on arm around your waist holding you still, you clenched tight and relaxed then again
"Baby? just carry on and see what happens I said not at the table and I meant it young lady" you blushed looking down knowing that the guard Luke now knew what you was doing you huffed slumping back against him taking that as your little defeat he peered forward over the tablet it. It was an email a short one line it read
Stephan knows he saw you leave the police station
Henry tensed glaring at the note it was from Fletcher you jumped as he slapped the tablet down with the force you was surprised he didn't break it.
"When did you get this?”
"Last night boss"
"LAST NIGHT! and you didn't think to tell me then? the fuck is wrong with you?!”
"We didn't want to interrupt you sir"
"Well What have you done about it?"
"We wasn't sure what your plans were for him wanted to wait until you saw it" Henry slumped in his chair you whimpered as he got angrier
"NOT SUR- I DON’T FUCKING BELIEVE THIS-" he took a breath calming himself, he felt you trembling sighing he rubbed your side a little the action calm the both of you, he continued in a low dangerous voice."isn't it fucking obvious what to do?. Find him .Kill him and keep it clean and quiet like I fucking pay you to do" he growled you gasped at the order then twisted round before he could stop you, kill who? You blood ran cold when you got a glimpse of the name on the screen.
"That's the thing boss its a false identity, he didn't exist until a year ago, already checked his accommodation he is gone. No trail nothing" Henry release a breath through his nose then snarled before standing up abruptly you yelped as he took you with him skirt bunched up over your ass as he did you was quick to pull it down at the sides and front as Henry had you pressed to the front of his hips feet dangling just off the floor, you tried not to swoon at just how easily he hoisted you off the ground with on hand. Now was defiantly not the time.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN HES FUCKING GONE?! GONE WHERE? YOU JOB IS TO MAKE SURE THIS SHIT DOESN'T HAPPEN! I MEAN WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID YOU DROP THE BALL THIS FUCKING MUCH?" You shook in his grasp whimpering covering your ears as he screamed at Luke. He stopped regarding you then took a deep breath pointing a shaky finger at Luke.
"Find him, pull in everything trace all cctv in the city if you have to but you find him and get Fletcher here, throw him in the trunk for all I care but bring him here today, and you better hope this kid isn't what I think he is or I will be needing a new head of security!" you shivered there was a crazed tone to his threat growl, the seemed to be all the dismissal Luke needed as he quickly scuttled out of the kitchen. Once you were alone Henry placed you on the seat making his way to the island slamming his hands down on it in temper the loud thump echoing in the room, you watched still quivering terrified of what was going to happen, he cast you a glance sighing making his way towards you watching as you flinched away from him.
"Baby doll? Its okay honey I'm sorry for scaring you.....daddy loves you, you know that right? and daddy isn't angry at you no no not at you my beautiful baby girl shh its okay" You nodded completely freaked out by his sudden switch he crouched down in front of you tucking the hair behind your ears wiping the few stray tears that had escaped gulping.
"A-are you really gonna kill him? Please don't do that please, its my fault I don't want to be the reason please" you cried fearing for Stephan hands clutching the chair seat trying to swallow down the sobs that tried to escape into sniffles, he sighed looking away then fixed you with a sympathetic gaze patting your knees smoothing them with his hands that could probably swallow them both in a single palm.
"Oh baby don't-don't cry on his account, I know you-you liked him but its for the best pet, we can't let him go, he knows where you are and there are some very bad people who would take you away from me if he tells them. Cant you see I'm doing this for you, for us so we can be together, I love you and I cant allow anyone to take you away ,no one not one single person will ever tear us apart. Because we belong together don't we? we love each other and nothing can put a stop to that" He explained you sobbed into your hands feeling sick as he continued to believe his own twisted fantasy of you being a true loving, consenting couple. Stephan would die because of you, Because this dangerous unstable man had an obsession with you. You moved on hand to his cheek shaking your head.
"N-no please I'll do anything please please don't...f-for my sake please, I-I will tell them that I chose to come here! Chose you over him Th-that we're together and he was just jealous of my decision or something but please please please don't do this I couldn’t live with myself" you pleaded to him running your thumb across his cheek before continuing
"I don't think I could ever fall in love with you if you do this" he froze at that if he done this? IF? so there was a chance? you held some feelings for him, you thought that you could love him. Perfect. He pushed his face into your hand slowly kissing your palm, it was the first time you'd touched him without fear, the first time you'd initiated an almost loving gesture, he grasped your hand placing your knuckles to his mouth again. Letting a small smile creep across his face watching you cry, on hand tugging at his shirt begging him so sweetly between small hiccups. His voice dropped lower then you'd ever heard it before
"You would do that baby? You'd tell everyone were together? Stop fighting me? Try to love me and forget about him to save him?" You nodded grabbing blindly at him still whimpering.
"Okay I tell you what pet, you stay with me here, love me and only me and never leave then I will promise you I won't kill him, but if you ever try to run from me his death will last days, I will kill him slowly and painfully you hear me love, you have to swear to me that you will stay think of this as a contract" It wasn’t a question, or request it was an ultimatum, and probably the only offer he would make. You gasped not really expecting him to reason with you, would you sacrifice the rest of your life to save the man you think you could have loved? He held your gaze firm, the blue in his eyes clear and steady it was unnerving as he watched you waiting for your answer. A no would mean a death sentence for Stephan and the truth of what has really happened dying with him. A yes would save his life but trap you under his thumb spending the rest of your days with this beautiful monster, either way you know your never escaping Henry, never. Yesterday was proof enough. So you may as well save someones life along the way right? You took a deep breath finally nodded.
"Yes. If you promise not to kill him" Henry smiled nodding
"You have my word little one, I will not kill this boy so long as you stay with me" he sealed the deal with a slow tender kiss to your knuckles then scooping you up spinning, cradling you to his chest, he was elated, ecstatic this day couldn't turn out better placing you to sit on the table.
"I’m so proud of you baby girl, your soo gooood, that why I love you, I love you so much your everything I'm not. You truly are my better half" You cried into him silent tears streaming down.
"Oh sweet heart don't be sad, no no this is good....Hush now you'll be fine I know this is a big commitment but deep down you love me just as much, your just afraid of admitting it. That’s okay I can wait, we have our whole lives together....Your a good girl you've made daddy so happy baby girl." his words did nothing to stop the tears the finality of them was frightening. Your whole lives the rest of your days being his doll, a toy. the thought made your stomach clench he pulled you down to stand before him wiping at the tears
"Hey now there's no need for tears, its daunting but exciting......I know how about you let daddy give you that treat he promised huh? make my little baby girl feel better hmm? its only fair you've been so good" You shook your head whimpering at him wanting to
"N-no I don't want to now" he tutted at you spinning placing you on the counter stepping between your legs. His hands cupped your cheeks softly.
"Nonsense come on love just a quick little reward and then we can go get you some books and you can spend the rest of the day in the office with daddy" you whined squirming
"no no no please" he sighed at you as he called out over his shoulder making another male enter the kitchen you flushed trying to move your skirt over your thighs not getting far as he was pressing tight against your center
"Tell Luke I've changed my mind, find Stephan but don't kill him just keep tabs on him....still get Fletcher here tho, he may help find him" the man nodded leaving you alone once again"There does that help? he wont be hurt, I just want to know where he is.....better?" you nodded a little you did feel a slightly better until he pulled you closer to the edge of the counter parting your thighs wider quickly you squeaked then he pushed you back flat with one strong hand on your ribs pinning you down. you mewled embarrassed as he flipped your skirt up holding it under the palm pinning you down flat the marble was cold making you shiver as he placed an open mouthed kiss on your lower tummy trailing his tongue down to your mound leaving a wet line in your skin that cooled instantly as the air hit it not stopping you bent your knees feet firmly on the counter gasping as he moved down not wasting any time one latching onto your clit sucking it into his mouth flicking the tip of his tongue across it igniting your pussy anew you pushed on your feet trying to fight his hold on you as his shoulders pressed on your tense thighs you panted shaking your head it was incredible as his teeth pinched the flesh rolling it side to side then pulled back taking the small nub with him then moved forward pressing the flat of his tongue sticking it out rubbing up and down angling the tip to the sensitive skin just behind your clit. you moaned throwing your head back throwing your arms around your right hand found purchase on the edge of the marble counter top your left grabbing his wrist at your ribs.
"OH FUCK! AHH!" you cried out as he sped his tongue then moved lower attaching his mouth over your opening sucking obscenely darting his tongue inside of you making you jolt using your feet to grind down on him as his torturous mouth feasted on you with out pulling back he grabbed your left foot throwing it over his shoulder to hand loosely down his strong back and smacked your left calf from below prompting you to throw it over his left shoulder. you squealed trapping his head between your thighs as he continued to eat you out he pulled back a little you panted breathlessly looking down at him, his face was wet from your arousal he wiped his face with the back of his hand before licking it clean you moaned as the display.
"Fuck you taste fantastic, I could fucking live off this alone!" he said before diving back down tugging you to hang off of the counter pressing your thighs back with his shoulders stretching your pussy taught as he went back to work, the new position pulling your lips back revealing more of your clit to his wandering tongue, you cried out a gruntal moan as he suckled on it flicking his tongue on the underneath slowly the circling its base quickly
"Fuck fuck shit please I-PLEASE I’m gonna cum I cant-" suddenly he thrusted two thick fingers inside you pressing them around feeling his way along your muscles making him self at home inside of you scissoring and circling pressing on your contracting walls whilst sucking on you. You moaned and keened unable to contain yourself digging your heels in his back feeling the strength in his back as he arched over you moaning into you making you jump at the vibrations. you clenched around his fingers yelping as he brushed something deep
"AH! oh god wha? UGH!" you moaned loud spasming around his fingers as they found what he was looking for and rubbed furiously following your hips as you tried to escape screaming as you tense curling your upper body rocking into his hand and mouth desperate to finish as he gave one final painful suck on your clit then bit down hard sending you to your peak. He smiled as you came over his fingers slowing them but not stopping letting you ride him through your orgasm. You saw stars as you climaxed the pleasure making your whole body shiver and jerk every muscle seemed to come alive at once, your nerves on fire before you came down as he pulled his hand and mouth away from you. panting and trembling you looked down at him dazed, eyes glazed over from your after glow completely exhausted you felt alive and drained all at once he winked up at you smirking licking his lips then pulled back standing at full height catching your legs and they slipped from his shoulders before they could hit the counter painfully as dead weight, slowly lowering them to rest over the edge then lifted his drenched fingers to his mouth sucking them clean eagerly. You groaned still trying to control your ragged breaths, that was ridiculous you summarized moving your hands to your hair grimacing when you felt how sweaty your forehead was.
"You have a very unique taste baby doll, i love it so much i might have to have it for breakfast each day what do you think?" you groaned barely able to move
"I think it'd kill me" you panted out he laughed loud running his hands across your thighs then pulled your skirt back down
"well that is what orgasm means, little death" you grunted as he pulled you towards him sliding you to your feet supporting your whole weight as you slumped on him a little still feeling like jelly, then the door opened again Luke walking through.
"Sir Fletcher’s on his way and I don't think he knows where to find the other one your looking for, he sacked them for confronting him" Henry sighed looking up closing his eyes, you shivered waiting for the blow up but it never came he just nodded then picked you up
"Fucking idiot! fine I'll deal with him how long?" he said walking from the kitchen making them follow after him you leaned on his chest.
"Said he'd be twenty minutes or so, he's shitting bricks tried to wiggle out of it but told him we'd hand him over if he didn't that got him complying real quick" Henry nodded
"Go meet him half way I don't trust that little weasel not to make a run for it" you looked over Henry's shoulder as Luke took a left to the main doors.
"Is Fletcher in trouble?" he gave you a look making you shrink
"Don't you worry about him, you just keep your nose clean, you don't need to know now lets go get some books for you to read today" you sighed nodding a little as he continued down the hall.

One Day at a Time
The destruction of the Reapers did not mean galactic peace. While the treaties Shepard had brokered during the war remain mostly intact, there is no shortage of pirates, criminals, gangs, and terroristic organizations bent on creating chaos and destruction. The Council began directing their Spectres towards overseeing and protecting reconstruction efforts and maintaining peace. Now that scientists are close to unlocking the key to repairing the mass relays, the galaxy has settled into unease. No one knows if crime will get better or worse with the relays back online. All factions are getting agitated, and more fighting is breaking out.
Sometimes, Kaidan pities the poor soul on the wrong end of Shepard's gun. More than once, he has heard all sorts of people shout something along the lines of "Oh shit, it's Shepard!" as they realized they were about to die. Shepard is a skilled soldier who dominates the battlefield with equal parts strength and grace. Fighting alongside her can be almost beautiful in an odd and violent sort of way, especially when she used her biotics. It took her almost a year of practice fighting on her military grade prosthetic leg, but she has now found that grace on the battlefield again. In the end, her skills and her career could not be taken by the Reaper War. The galaxy kept its greatest protector.
Today, they are both back on Mars, of all places, fighting a remnant of Cerberus that is attempting to steal more data from the archives. If intel is correct, their goal is to find weapons they can use "for the betterment of humanity", which is their way of saying anti-alien terrorism. Kaidan does have to admit that some part of him enjoys taking down pieces of Cerberus. After all the horrible things he's seen them do, including all that they have put Shepard through, he's glad to eliminate every last cell in the galaxy. It's a worthy career goal.
As the smoke clears, Shepard begins checking the bodies for data pads, hoping to find anything to indicate how many of them are at the archives and what their exact plans are. After all, if this was just an outdoor lookout team, there's bound to be more already inside. She freezes as she reads one of the data pads. Kaidan can barely see her face through her helmet, but her reaction to the data pad can't be good. "Shepard, what is it?"
She clears her throat and says calmly "It's not pertinent to the mission. Let's move on." She drops the data pad and continues towards the entrance. Kaidan trusts Shepard, but curiosity gets the better of him and he glances down at the data pad as he passes by. It currently displays the owner's profile. He can see an image that he guesses matches the body they found it on and a name. "Andrew Mason".
As they enter the archive, they happily find a distinct lack of civilian and scientist casualties. This time, intel learned of the plan early and decided to evacuate the scientists and ship in more soldiers. Unfortunately, Cerberus still puts up a good fight and many of the Alliance soldiers were injured or killed before the Spectres arrived (travel between systems takes more time now that the relays are gone). Shepard hops on to the nearest terminal and accesses the system logs. "Ah, here it is. Someone opened an archive five minutes ago. We can take the tram there."
"Perfect. Maybe this time we'll make it through without getting shot at." Immediately after making the joke, Kaidan winces at the realization that bringing up their last mission on Mars might not be a good idea. Sure, they've worked everything out, but it still could be a touchy subject. He was pretty cruel to her last time, before he almost died in front of her.
"Doubtful." Shepard laughs lightly as they board the tram.
They ride quietly for a moment before Kaidan asks "So, will I get to know who Andrew Mason is?"
"Maybe later. Now's not the time."
"Fair." Kaidan says. He smiles at her, hoping she can see it through the helmet. His is much more open and visually blocks less of the face. Shepard's preferred gear usually allows less visibility, but it also has fewer structural weak points. He noticed a change in her treatment of her armor not too long after he got back on the Normandy, but he's never said anything. Without asking, he already knows why Shepard chooses armor with the most reinforced environment system, and why she carefully and almost obsessively maintains it. He would, too, in her shoes.
He refocuses himself on the task at hand as they begin approaching their destination. They've almost made it when a Cerberus soldier begins firing at the car. They both take cover behind the wall and the dance begins yet again. As the car docks, Shepard throws up a barrier and runs out, shooting at several men in a row as she charges to cover. Kaidan focuses on the heavy trooper slowly approaching from a distance and Reaves. Together, they feed off each other's energy. The can move in sync, watching each other's sixes and supporting each other throughout the entire battle. Before long, the docking zone falls silent as the battle ends.
They take turns clearing doors until they finally get to the archive. They take cover on either side of the door. He opens it carefully, and Shepard immediately swings around to cover him with her pistol. The immediate entryway is surprisingly empty. Shepard gestures for him to follow, then slowly and quietly moves inside the room until they reach a sharp turn. She takes cover against the wall and peers around the corner, gun at the ready. As soon as she does, she is thrown backwards by a large biotic force. Her gun fires before she even hits the wall. Kaidan swings around and unleashes a singularity that pulls the target into the air. Shepard fires again, making several headshots that eventually pierce the armor and hit their mark.
"Thanks for the cover, Alenko." She says, her smile coming through in the sound of her voice. She pats him on the back and pushes further into the room, where the target had been collecting data onto a drive. She plugs the data into her omnitool and runs it through analysis softwares. Liara would be able to tell them more, but it appears that intel was correct. They had been here for advanced weapons blueprints. Shepard begins forwarding the information back to the Normandy, then turns to head back to the LZ. Kaidan follows her.
Getting back to the Normandy and conferencing with Admiral Hackett is no big deal. After the verbal debriefing, they retire to her cabin to write their mission reports. Kaidan's ship, the SSV London (named for the Battle of London that ended the Reaper War), is still getting it's final touches before he'll be able to take it out on a shakedown run, so he rode along with Shepard for this mission and their last several. As they settle into the couch with their tea and data pads, he can't help but smile. This is a good life, one he hadn't expected to attain. Every day, sometimes several times a day, he still finds himself thankful that they had found Shepard after the Crucible. When the Alliance had formally declared her missing in action, with the caveat that she was most likely dead, Kaidan refused to lay down and wait for them to declare her death. He contacted Hackett with an emergency QEC on the Normandy and told him that until they found a body, Shepard was to be considered alive and in need of assistance. They all owed that to her. Seeing her here and now, living her life with him, is something he is grateful for every day.
As Kaidan is putting the final touches on his report, Shepard sets her data pad on the table and walks to her shower, stripping off articles of clothing as she goes. He fumbles over the keyboard, leaving a line of text that reads "ghdhshgdg" as he watches her go. Knowing that he's watching, she calls "finish your report first, and then you can join me." He deletes the line of typos, hurriedly wraps up the report, and follows her for an enjoyable interlude.
Their activities eventually end with them cuddling in her bed. She lay with her head resting gently on his chest, her hand absentmindedly rubbing circles on through his chest hair. He has one arm around her back and gently brushing strokes down her upper arm. He can feel her back subtly rise and fall with her breath. They lay this way for a while before he feels a slight dampness on his chest, where her head is. "Hazel, are you okay?" he asks, looking down at her. Her face is buried in him. She stifles a sob, and he feels the shift in her breathing as she forces herself to cry silently. He wraps his arms around her tighter. "Sweetheart, whatever it is, I've got you." Slowly, she pulls herself back and looks at him. He reaches up to her and gently wipes the tears from her cheeks. She pulls herself into a sitting position against the headboard, and he follows so that they are sitting side by side.
She leans her head on his shoulder and quietly says "You asked about Andrew Mason?"
"Yeah. Do you want to talk about it?"
"I knew him... from before the Alliance." she ends the sentence at barely a whisper. Her shoulders tense and she looks down at the floor. "He was one of the younger kids in the Reds before I left." He gently reaches for her hand and takes it in his as she continues. "I heard he'd gotten out, that he'd joined the Alliance some time after my death. I had hoped he'd do well and go far, but it didn't work that way. I checked his records when we got back to the ship. His team got ambushed by some pirates about seven months before the Reapers invaded. He was discharged honorably for medical reasons, for PTSD. I guess that's when Cerberus got to him."
"Hazel, I'm so sorry." he says.
"The hell of it is that I can see myself in that kid. In what he came from, in his escape. What if I somehow influenced his decision to leave like that? How many kids joined after hearing fantastical stories about my life, only to be swooped up by Cerberus when the Alliance didn't live up to their expectations or to die in battle before they got the chance to reconsider?"
"Hey, stop that. It's not your fault, Hazel."
"How many people died because of me? Will continue to die because of me? Because I failed?" Her voice cracks and she lets out a shuddering breath.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Backup. Failed at what?"
"I couldn't save them all. I can never save them all."
"Hazel, stop. Look at me." He gently places his hand under her chin and guides her to look at him. "You are not responsible for every person in the galaxy. You've spent far too much of your life fighting galactic wars practically on your own. Enough is enough. We stopped the Reapers. Now, we just do what we can to make things a little better. One day at a time, okay?"
She nods and he pulls her into a tight embrace. "One day at a time." She sniffles.

Changing the Narrative
It seems that death is coming at us from all sides these days. Police shootings, mass shootings, road-rage shootings, COVID deaths, and the execution spree of the last administration.
What most of us know about the death penalty in America, we probably gleaned from movies like “The Green Mile”. In our minds, we confine it geographically and historically to the old South. I propose that it encompasses more of our lives than we care to admit. We just don’t see it and recognize it as such. The sentence of death hangs over all of us. We’ve become numb to all the ways this is true, especially if it doesn’t directly affect us or our demographic today. But executions are happening daily in this country. It might help if these executions were categorized:
Judicial Execution - Death administered by the State, as a punishment for a capitol crime, usually for being too poor to afford a proper defense.
Civil Execution - Death administered by law enforcement as punishment for no reason at all except being a poor person of color.
Stochastic Execution - Death administered randomly in a public place by another person by reason of their own uncontrolled rage and easy access to military-grade firearms.
Domestic Execution - Death administered by a significant other, usually an aggrieved spouse or lover. Again rage combined with easy access to firearms. May result in stochastic execution of others.
Policy Execution - Death administered by state austerity that neglects human well-being. Reverend Barber’s “Policy Violence”.
Economic Execution - Death administered by poverty. Holes in the social safety net coupled with grievous inequality depriving people of access to food, water, shelter, and healthcare.
Environmental Execution - Death by industrial pollution, its toxic effects on food, water, or air, and climate change.
Epidemiological Execution - Death by a communicable virus that spreads like wildfire because of government negligence, politicization, assertion of personal freedom, and utter disregard for the well-being of others.
Self Execution - Death caused by our own hand. More than the act itself. The culmination of untreated depression, bi-polar illness, or hopelessness, i.e. the psychic death that precedes it.
Taken together, the result is...
Actuarial Execution - The reduced lifespan resulting from living in the United States. With a life expectancy of 78.5 years (per a WHO 2019 report), we have fallen to 40th among the world's nations in life expectancy! These are Life-years stolen! How did we get here? What is it about America that has made 39 others countries a better place, a place to live longer?
We have accepted a "culture of death", a phrase coined by Pope John Paul II. The Psalmist called it “the Shadow of Death”. In this country, the culture of death began with genocide of the indigenous, but gained an enduring foothold with slavery.
Slavery was the foundation of the economy at our country’s inception and was well-represented at the Constitutional Convention:
Let us consider the first fifty years of our national history. There was never a moment during this time when the slavery issue was not a sleeping serpent. That issue lay coiled up under the table during the deliberations of the Constitutional Convention in 1787.— John Jay Chapman
Much of our Constitution was an agreement made by compromising with slave-holding states and interests. The most notorious artifact was the “three-fifths” clause which counted slaves as 3/5 of a human being for the purpose of apportionment, thus giving the slave-holding states disproportionate representation. The Second Amendment is another concession to the interests of slavery. By the time of the Convention, “Slave Patrols” were well established in the South. There was concern that Article 1, Section 8, giving Congress the power to form and finance armies could gain control of state militias. Virginia would not ratify the Constitution unless the Second Amendment was included.
The cohesion (and fragmentation) within our society is based on identity. Too often this identity is not based so much on common interests, but on caste.
Identity is not who we define ourselves to be, but who we define ourselves to not be. More to the point, we understand ourselves to be in a hierarchy, so we define ourselves by who we are above.
They have had to believe for many years, and for innumerable reasons, that black men are inferior to white men. Many of them, indeed, know better, but, as you will discover, people find it very difficult to act on what they know. To act is to be committed, and to be committed is to be in danger. In this case, the danger, in the minds of most white Americans, is the loss of their identity.—James Baldwin
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." —Lyndon B. Johnson
It is a human failing that we need a scapegoat to blame others for our shortcomings and vulnerabilities. White people impugn our shadow on Black people and other minority groups. Everything White America refuses to believe about itself, hates about itself, is projected onto people of color.
The white man's unadmitted and apparently, to him, unspeakable-private fears and longings are projected onto the Negro. —James Baldwin
Of all the things we want to push away from ourselves, the certainty of our death is chief among them. Yet...
Mortality the reality that we are most adept at denying.
Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, which is the only fact we have.
—James Baldwin
And, again, White America, finds it convenient to avoid the reality of death by projecting it on others:
White Americans do not believe in death, and this is why the darkness of my skin so intimidates them.
—James Baldwin
Is this is why White America has been so indifferent to the suffering and death of Black Americans? Per CDC data, life expectancy for Black Americans is approximately five years less than the population as a whole. Indifference may not be imputation, but it does translate into the lack of political will to change things.
Racism is the Poison. Although inequality disproportionately affects people of color, all working and middle-class people are struggling to survive. Compared against other wealthy Western nations, America’s systemic ills are dragging us all down into the shadows of death.
...racism is a poison first consumed by its concocters. What's clearer now in our time of growing inequality is that the economic benefit of the racial bargain is shrinking for all but the richest. The logic that launched the zero-sum paradigm-I will profit at your expense-is no longer sparing millions of white Americans from the degradations of American economic life as people of color have always known it.
—Heather McGhee (The Sum of Us)
Solidarity is the alternative and people are waking up to it:
Everywhere I went, I found that the people who had replaced the zero sum with a new formula of cross-racial solidarity had found the key to unlocking what I began to call a "Solidarity Dividend," from higher wages to cleaner air, made possible through collective action. And the benefits weren't only external. I didn't set out to write about the moral costs of racism, but they kept showing themselves. There is a psychic and emotional cost to the tightrope white people walk, clutching their identity as good people when all around them is suffering they don't know how to stop, but that is done, it seems, in their name and for their benefit. The forces of division seek to harden this guilt into racial resentment, but I met people who had been liberated by facing the truth and working toward racial healing in their communities.
—Heather McGhee (The Sum of Us)
A New Way, a way of life, a way of economic security is possible, but only if we seize the moment we are in. A moment of crisis is also a moment of opportunity. As we come out of a once-in-a-lifetime crisis, more people are facing the bankruptcy of 40 years of trickle-down Reaganomics.
Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced —James Baldwin
The politics and messaging of racial scapegoating is deeply embedded in the American psyche. Race-baiting and fear are the tools used against solidarity. The answer is a new story, a race-class narrative.
If we lead with a shared value, that means race and class, for example, ‘Whatever your race, gender, or religion, most of us work hard for our families. Every child, regardless of where they come from, deserves a chance to pursue their dreams.’ Reminding us of our common humanity (that’s a good place to start) and then saying that racial scapegoating is a weapon that economically harms all of us. You’re actually putting a shot in your listeners’ arm, inoculating them, so the next time they hear that racial scapegoating, they have antibodies for it. —Heather McGhee
This is the pivotal moment we find ourselves in. Our choices are to continue with the old story of racism, division, and death or to embrace a new story, a story of solidarity and an abundance. This can happen when we realize we are more than "The Sum of Us" (McGhee).

The spacious barn creaked lazily as the sounds of swearing and hammering overflowed its weather worn walls. It had been repurposed years ago, the old owners either long dead or moved out once the forest began to take over. As it was now it had been cleared of the twisting roots and oddly growing branches that had once threatened to consume it completely, now standing in a small clearing with a house beside it sitting just as pristine. The barn, though repaired, leaned slightly to the side, braced on an extension that housed a lab of sorts with one other room branching out that acted as cold storage.
The main room itself was currently where loud banging could be heard with the occasional swear sprinkled in as the owner tried valiantly to seperate pieces of plate metal from the skull of a fallen beast, eyes vacant and jaw slack as it sat on the table surrounded by already disassembled parts of itself scattered about and repurposed to varying degrees. Jars of different colored oily substances sat on a cart nearby, with empty ones still waiting to be filled. The hammer was thrown down suddenly, its owners pointed ears twitching in irritation as he dragged a hand down his face and took a breath. Sighing loudly, Logan turned and stalked off to the other end of the room to get a crow bar off the rack in hopes that his new method would work.
As he began trying to pry between plates he felt more than heard the halting footsteps outside the barn, though who it was was clearly trying his best to be quiet. Rolling his eyes Logan slammed the crowbar in a weak spot and pulled hard enough to bend the plate and send the bar snapping back to narrowly miss his face. He scowled as sweat dripped into his eyes, rolling his shoulders and gripping the tool with a white knuckled grip.
"It truly is a wonder you haven't killed yourself yet. To think of all that education going to waste with a cracked skull in an old barn, it's almost enough to make me care to check in more."
"The only reason you come in here is because I'm the only thing within a hundred mile radius who doesn't wish you dead on sight."
"How you wound me. It's at least two hundred when I'm far enough away from the coast." Logan smirked as he heard the irritated tap of the others cane punctuating his statement.
Sighing, he placed the crowbar on the bench and turned to face the intruder, leaning against it while crossing his arms. "Hyden."
"Logan." The other greeted mutually. Though he was typically a bit more put together his thick caplet lay crookedly across his tense shoulders, arms taunt as he leaned heavily on his cane with both hands resting on the top. His long hair curled in the afternoon humidy and Logan definitely didn't miss the slight furrow of his brows, though he knew he would be loathe to admit he was in any sort of pain.
Letting out a heavier sigh Logan pushed away from the bench and gestured for the other to follow him. "Join me, I need a break anyway."
Hyden gasped. "The head scientist admitting he needs a break? Who's hand do I need to shake for downloading an once of self preservation into that thick skull?"
"I'll have you know I take breaks on a regular basis, something you clearly need to be reminded of."
"The audacity! I walk all the way here to visit a long time friend-"
"You walked?" Logan shot him a sharp glance as he held the door, gesturing the other into the old farmhouse.
Waving away the concern, Hyden continued. "I flew most of the way don't worry. I only ducked below the treeline the last few miles so I wouldn't be followed, you're welcome for the concern and forethought."
Snorting, Logan pulled out a chair and moved to collect containers of herbs and thr kettle, sighing for the fourth time as it was blatantly ignored for the refrigerator. As the kettle heated he carefully measured out the proper ingrediants, glancing over every now and again to try and catch what his guest was poking at.
"Are those by any chance agorose gels?"
Walking past the fridge to put things away he caught sight of what the other was observing, humming his confirmation.
"Logan, why do you have DNA gels next to leftover chicken salad in your refrigerator?"
"The chicken salad seems irrelevant." The kettle whistled to give him an excuse to avoid the question, carefully pouring out the boiling water.
"Logan."
"Hyden." The name slipped out easily despite his annoyance, making him wonder for a brief moment if he would struggle when he was finally told his real name.
The mans cane taps were heavier than normal as he made his way over to the table and flopped down without his usual show. Giving Loagn a quiet thank you he proceeded to wrap his hands around the steaming mug, frowning in concentration. "Are you trying to find them again?"
"I fail to comprehend what you could possibly-"
"Because they're trying to find you. And they're getting close."
Logan was quiet as he sat, his wrapped hands folding somewhat painfully around his own drink. Pursing his lips he avoided looking at Hyden for a long moment, nevertheless feeling his gaze attempting to pick him apart. Arranging his expression to be carefully neutral he took a drink, smiling as the other did so as well.
"Make sure to drink all of it, it'll help with pain."
"Did you even listen to what I said?!" Throwing his hands up in exasperation he fixed Logan with his best glare.
"Hard not to with that grating tone."
"Well this grating tone," he growled out. "Is telling you to get your head out of your ass and maybe make sure you're safe before telling someone else to take care of themselves."
Logan dragged a hand down his face, suddenly tired. "Where exactly do you expect me to go? I'm so close to figuring out what they're using to power those things, if I move now I won't have any access to the equipment I need, no studies will be concluded, and nearly all of my experiments will be left behind to rot! I need more time."
"Time isn't exactly a luxury here. You're being stubborn and ignorant, as usual, and if you would just listen-" he stopped short as he caught the look the other was giving him, letting out a breath of defeat and softening his tone. "It doesn't have to be today. But it does have to be soon. I'll even come with you, help you scout out a new location if you'd like. I'm sure there's plenty to be found with a little digging."
Mugs empty save for the dregs silence rang between them as they lost themselves in thought. Distantly Logan was aware of the old grandfather clock ticking, suddenly thinking what a shame it would be to leave the sound behind. He knew the other was right even before he fully decided to voice it. Instead he quietly looked over at him, the scales that freckled his face gleaming with the last rays of the evening sunlight. If they were truly leaving, they would have to be careful. Though he knew Hyden was loathe to do so he could easily shift his appearance to hide his scales. Logan wouldn't be so lucky, his slightly off colored skin and pointed ears a dead give away to what his heritage was, even if he had defected from it when the war broke out. He was obviously fae, and that would do him no favors outside of the protection of his remote location.
But he really couldn't stay. If the guard was truly zeroing in on his location he would much rather abandon his research and try to pick it up wherever he could than even think about getting caught and wondering whether he could escape before he was undoubtedly punished for his crimes against his people. He shuddered uneasily as he stood, carefully avoiding eye contact as he took the mugs to the sink and began to wash them. He stared out the window towards the treeline as he did, having to squint to make out the weak protective barrier set around the perimeter by Hyden years ago. Beyond that lay dense forest only a madman would dare trek through.
Or fae guards with strict orders.
Squaring his shoulders before they could droop in defeat he turned to face his companion with a level stare.
"Give me two days."
-------
"Two more days? I thought the town was closer than that." Virgil irritably kicked a stone into the water, splattering the bottom of Roman's pants. They huffed in response, their frustration easily matching Virgil's as they shifted the pack on their shoulders.
"I said at most two more days, it might be sooner than that. We've never really been this far out before, which is a good thing but it means guessing the distance. Pouting isn't going to make it be any closer."
"Not pouting." Virgil pouted, crossing his arms before realizing what he was doing and angrily shoving them in his hoodie pockets.
Snorting with amusement Roman shifted the pack again before grunting and heaving it up and off their shoulder, immediately sagging in relief. Their burden was lifted further as Virgil tugged it out of their grasp and shouldered it easily, walking ahead while adjusting to the weight.
"Thank you."
"You were slowing us down. Somebody's gotta make sure we stay on schedule."
Roman squawked with indignation, jogging a bit to catch up with the emos longer gait. Their mouth thinned as they thought of how to bring up a concern they'd been thinking about for a while, gripping the straps of their pack tightly in apprehension.
"Alright. Spill it." They blinked as Virgil stopped, dropping both the packs and plopping down in the dirt.
"What?"
"Being anxious is my job and right now you're forcing me into unemployment. So either talk or I'm throwing you in the river."
"You do and I'm eating the last two cans of spaghettios tonight while you get nothing but croutons."
Virgil narrowed his eyes. "I fucking dare you to go through with that threat. You do not come between a man and the last can of shitty microwave pasta."
"I have the food pack."
"And I have the flint and steel so start talking before I decide to set you on fire instead of drowning you."
Unceremoniously flopping to the ground they let out an annoyed huff while shrugging off the back pack. "Fine. I've been thinking....that with this next town..maaaaybe finding another person or two to travel with would be in our best interests?"
The last half of the thought came out rushed and nearly incomprehensible but Roman could tell Virgil had heard them clearly as his face adopted a carefully neutral expression, hands twisting tightly in his lap.
"Roman..."
"I know! I know, I definitely get it. But, it would be easier to carry supplies and we could have more! We wouldn't have to stop in towns so much-"
"Roman."
"And it might be safer! More people means more weapons means more protection right?"
"Roman."
They shut their mouth in worry at the defeated tone Virgil had adopted. He twisted his hands tighter, hesitant to continue now that he actually could.
"Am I not....do you not feel safe enough with me?"
Roman sucked in a breath as they realized how Virgil had taken their concerns, rushing to try and fix it. "It's definitely not that! I-Virgil I'm so sorry that isn't what I meant at all!"
They leaned forward and began gently detangling his fingers from each other, holding them tightly once they finally managed it. "Anx it isn't like that. I honestly worry that you aren't safe enough with me. And once our load gets heavier with trading supplies we slow down and it never seems like we're on the road long enough before what little supplies we can carry run out. It was only a thought I wanted to discuss, not an attack on your skill as a fighter."
Their eyes met Virgil's and they breathed a sigh of relief when they were met with understanding, nonetheless continuing to rub soothing circles across his knuckles until he pulled away.
"I guess..." he glanced over at the near overflowing pack of trading goods. "I guess I can see that yeah. But I don't-Roman how can we trust anyone?"
"We probably can't. But we'll look anyway and if we don't find anyone then we don't find anyone. Just, keep an open mind?"
Crossing his arms Virgil looked away to stare out at the water instead, face drawn with apprehension. After a minute he ducked his head in defeat, nodding slowly and standing up. "Yeah. We'll keep a look out. But if we do find someone and after a while they start to act shady we drop them alright? No debate."
"No debate." Roman readily agreed as they stood as well. They began walking again, the silence much less tense than it had been all afternoon. Grinning a bit, Roman smacked their lips in thought. "With that delay it might be two and a half days now."
"Oh come on!"

This has to be the saddest podcast I have ever listened to and I wanted to share this with you because I haven't come across many cases like this where the innocent have been executed for crimes they did not commit. It hurts knowing that Carlos died in pain and couldn't ask for help due to the drugs in his body. The botched execution lasted for 11 minutes whilst Carlos was promised a peaceful death by his last friend who he had asked to hold his hand, he wasn't allowed to hold his hand so he held his leg reassuring him.
Carlos DeLuna was arrested, aged 20, on 4 February 1983 for the brutal murder of a young woman, Wanda Lopez. She had been stabbed once through the left breast with an 8in lock-blade buck knife which had cut an artery causing her to bleed to death. From the moment of his arrest until the day of his death by lethal injection six years later, DeLuna consistently protested he was innocent. He went further – he said that though he hadn't committed the murder, he knew who had. He even named the culprit: a notoriously violent criminal called Carlos Hernandez.
At his 1983 trial, Carlos DeLuna told the jury that on the day of the murder he'd run into Hernandez, who he'd known for the previous five years. The two men, who both lived in the southern Texas town of Corpus Christi, stopped off at a bar. Hernandez went over to a gas station, the Shamrock, to buy something, and when he didn't return DeLuna went over to see what was going on.
DeLuna told the jury that he saw Hernandez inside the Shamrock wrestling with a woman behind the counter. DeLuna said he was afraid and started to run. He had his own police record for sexual assault – though he had never been known to possess or use a weapon – and he feared getting into trouble again.
"I just kept running because I was scared, you know." When he heard the sirens of police cars screeching towards the gas station he panicked and hid under a pick-up truck where, 40 minutes after the killing, he was arrested.
At the trial, DeLuna's defence team told the jury that Carlos Hernandez, not DeLuna, was the murderer. But the prosecutors ridiculed that suggestion. They told the jury that police had looked for a "Carlos Hernandez" after his name had been passed to them by DeLuna's lawyers, without success. They had concluded that Hernandez was a fabrication, a "phantom" who simply did not exist. The chief prosecutor said in summing up that Hernandez was a "figment of DeLuna's imagination".
Four years after DeLuna was executed, Liebman decided to look into the DeLuna case as part of a project he was undertaking into the fallibility of the death penalty. He asked a private investigator to spend one day – just one day – looking for signs of the elusive Carlos Hernandez.
By the end of that single day the investigator had uncovered evidence that had eluded scores of Texan police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers and judges over the six years between DeLuna's arrest and execution. Carlos Hernandez did indeed exist.
Liebman's investigator tracked down within a few hours a woman who was related to both the Carloses. She supplied Hernandez's date of birth, which in turn allowed the unlocking of Hernandez's criminal past as the case rapidly unravelled.
With the help of his students, Liebman began to piece together a profile of Hernandez. He was an alcoholic with a history of violence, who was always in the company of his trusted companion: a lock-blade buck knife.
Over the years he was arrested 39 times, 13 of them for carrying a knife, and spent his entire adult life on parole. Yet he was almost never put in prison for his crimes – a disparity that Liebman believes was because he was used as a police informant. "Its hard to understand what happened without that piece of the puzzle," Liebman says.
Several of the crimes that Hernandez committed involved hold-ups of Corpus Christi gas stations. Just a few days before the Shamrock murder he was found cowering outside a nearby 7-Eleven wielding a knife – a detail never disclosed to DeLuna's defence.
He also had a history of violence towards women. He was twice arrested on suspicion of the 1979 murder of a woman called Dahlia Sauceda, who was stabbed and then had an "X" carved into her back. The first arrest was made four years before DeLuna's trial and the second while DeLuna was on death row, yet the connection between this Hernandez and the "phantom" presented to DeLuna's jury was never made.
In October 1989, just two months before DeLuna was executed, Hernandez was setenced to 10 years' imprisonment for attempting to kill with a knife another woman called Dina Ybanez. Even then, no one thought to alert the courts or Texas state as it prepared to put DeLuna to death.
Hernandez himself frequently told people that he was a knife murderer. He made numerous confessions to having killed Wanda Lopez, the crime for which DeLuna was executed, joking with friends and relatives that his "tocayo" had taken the fall. His admissions were so widely broadcast that even Corpus Christi police detectives came to hear about them within weeks of the incident at the Shamrock gas station. Yet this was the same Carlos Hernandez who prosecutors told the jury did not exist. This was the figment of Carlos DeLuna's imagination.
Many other glaring discrepancies also stand out in the DeLuna case. He was put on death row largely on the eyewitness testimony of one man, Kevan Baker, who had seen the fight inside the Shamrock and watched the attacker flee the scene.
Yet when Baker was interviewed 20 years later, he said that he hadn't been that sure about the identification as he had trouble telling one Hispanic person apart from another.
Then there was the crime-scene investigation. Detectives failed to carry out or bungled basic forensic procedures that might have revealed information about the killer. No blood samples were collected and tested for the culprit's blood type.
Fingerprinting was so badly handled that no useable fingerprints were taken. None of the items found on the floor of the Shamrock – a cigarette stub, chewing gum, a button, comb and beer cans – were forensically examined for saliva or blood.
There was no scraping of the victim's fingernails for traces of the attacker's skin. When Liebman and his students studied digitally enhanced copies of crime scene photographs, they were amazed to find the footprint from a man's shoe imprinted in a pool of Lopez's blood on the floor – yet no effort was made to measure it.
"There it was," says Liebman. "The murderer had left his calling card at the scene, but it was never used."
Even the murder weapon, the knife, was not properly examined, though it was covered in blood and flesh.
Other photographs show Lopez's blood splattered up to three feet high on the walls of the Shamrock counter. Yet when DeLuna's clothes and shoes were tested for traces of blood, not a single microscopic drop was found. The prosecution said it must have been washed away by the rain.
There appeared to have been an unseemly scramble to wrap up the crime scene. Less than two hours after the murder happened, the police chief in charge of the homicide investigation ordered all detectives to quit the Shamrock and allowed its owner to wash it down, sweeping away vital evidence that could have saved a man's life.
The exceptionally lax treatment of evidence continued even beyond the grave. When Liebman asked to see all the stored evidence in the case, so that he could subject it to the DNA testing that was not available to investigators in 1983, he was told that it had all disappeared.
Having lived and breathed this case for so many years, Liebman says the most shocking thing about it was its ordinariness. "This wasn't the trial of OJ Simpson. It was an obscure case, the kind that could involve anybody. Maybe those are the cases where miscarriages of justice happen, the routine everyday cases where nobody thinks enough about the victim, let alone the defendant."
The groundbreaking work that the Columbia law school has done comes at an important juncture for the death penalty in America. Connecticut last month became the fifth state in as many years to repeal the ultimate punishment and support for abolition is gathering steam.
In that context, Liebman hopes his exhaustive work will encourage Americans to think more deeply about what is done in their name. All the evidence the Columbia team has gathered on the DeLuna case has been placed on the internet with open public access.
"We've provided as complete a set of information as we can about a pretty average case, to let the public make its own judgment. I believe they will make the judgment that in this kind of case there's just too much risk."
As for the tocayos Carloses, Carlos Hernandez died of natural causes in a Texas prison in May 1999, having been jailed for assaulting a neighbour with a 9in knife.
Carlos DeLuna commented on his own ending in a television interview a couple of years before his execution. "Maybe one day the truth will come out," he said from behind reinforced glass. "I'm hoping it will. If I end up getting executed for this, I don't think it's right."
I highly suggest listening to this podcast by Morbidology, I follow them on Tumblr and they're amazing and I share a lot of their content on my Facebook page. So maybe check them out and give them a follow. Their tumblr is @congenitaldisease

Unloved
*thud* *shuffle*
"hello...?" a child's voice rang through the empty room.
"...."
"who are you...?" the child asked as he can make out a black silhouette in the doorframe
"......"
"please answer me..." the young child pleaded to the unknown thing
".... y-...yes...?" the thing rasped, finally talking to a person after a long while, it didn't know what to say.
"how are you doing?" the child chimed the moment he heard a response
"... eh?..."
----------------------------------
"HOW COULD YOU CHEAT ON ME!!??" Yelled little Charlie's mom at his guilty daddy
"ITS BECAUSE OF HOW PATHETIC AND UGLY YOU ARE MICHELLE!!" his father yelled back in defense with hurting words
these fights continued on for weeks, days and months.. the happy little family was no more. it was as if Charlie was walking on clouds, there was nothing left.. nothing at all. he didn't know how to feel about this. His daddy was never home and if he was, he would always be angry. and his mommy was always gloomy and sad, avoiding his father at all times.
time passed and things kept getting toxic, his father brought his mistress home while his mother chugged down bottles of wine/champagne down her throat. things turned black and white, he felt like he was a ghost. his parents ignoring him, his classmates and teacher ignored him. he did rather believe he was a ghost than this harsh reality.
(2 years later)
he stood cold near the casket, holding an umbrella to shield him from the sky's blood cries. he stared at the casket with his wide eyes.. tears seeping through as he realized what he had just lost.. his mother.. he hadn't just lost her.. he had lost her a long while ago, its her body being finally put to rest.. while his dad was on a date.. he stared at the casket one last time as his uncle guided him towards his car backseat..
its turned more grey...
(3 months later)
his father had already married his mistress when he found the opportunity. that woman had already turned his life hell ever since she came to his home. she did kick him out of the house for days and nights, make him do the dishes, clean the whole house, getting him out of school because a spoilt br4t like him doesn't deserve this.
his father danced along to her wishes and whines, harming his son along the way. he got so blind in that love.. that he stopped realizing, he had started fueling a monster... he started fueling someone's rage. he was ooh soo naïve to realize... his good days were bouta end, eh? karma's a b1tch, a big f4t b1tch-
(1 month later)
"that's a good news!!"
"oooooooooooooooh, they are having a baby!!"
"i am soooo sooooo happy for ya!!"
all this words were showered on his stepmother as she sat on the couch happily with her bump and smiled widely. everybody gave him ugly stares and some even bullied him for... existing..
his step-mom looked at him with a smirk as she flaunted her bump and wrapped her hands around his father's arm. he couldn't bare to see this. he was banned from entering the house and was forced to sit outside the window.
he was kicked outside for the night just for a 'special' gift for his step-mom. she was soo delighted seeing him outside and weeping his eyes out. his father had no words to say as he looked coldly towards him. tonight has been the worst for the poor kid. he was over the edge and was soon to break into pieces. his heart was already broken, now all that was left was it to be run over by his dad's truck. unbeknownst to him, to everybody.. a monster was released.. he took control over the little kid, devouring his identity and forced him to commit his long awaited crimes he didn't wish to commit.
Charlie pushed open the back door knowing his dad would leave it open after throwing away the trash. he walked over to the kitchen counter and pulled the draw open, staring with his glazed eyes at the knife collection. insanity blinding him and now all he had seen was red. he couldn't bare with the dark colors surrounding him.. he needed something vibrant.. something... smooth~
it wasn't long till he was standing right outside the master bedroom. surprisingly, the door was left open ajar, he took the chance and walked inside to see his 'parents' asleep... how careless people..
He dragged the blade across both their throats, slashing them open and continued stabbing their lifeless bodies. The life redacted out of their bodies, no oxygen being circulated through their lungs, with blood splurting out of their throats like a fountain. He stopped heaving as he looked at the small blood fountain, calming him.
He walked towards the kitchen, dropping the knife into the sink as if it's a dirty utensil. Of course it was dirty.. but not the usual dirty..
He started washing hands with his soapy soap just like how his mother taught him. He rinsed the soap off and walked off towards his room whilst wiping his hands on his trousers. He became too empty to realize anything that happened. He headed towards his bed. Silently following his daily schedule when he had his mother still 'alive'.
He slipped deep into his dark sleep whilst humming himself to sleep just like how his mother did.
[2 weeks later]
It was late at night as the corpses started rotting and the house smelled way worse than a garbage shoot, tempting the neighbours to give a call to 911. Little Charlie had already came back to his senses and couldn't make sense of what happened. He remembers everything he did clearly, but couldn't come to terms with it. His lovely father... who bought him clothes and let him stay in his house. His heavenly step mother who would atleast acknowledge his existence..
He whimpered whilst he cowered under his bedsheets, still covered in the rotting blood from 2 weeks ago. So lost in thoughts that he failed to realize the light knocks on the window pane.
K N O C K K N O C K
The two loud knocks snapped him out of his little trance as he slowly lifted his head up to look at the glass pane.
Outside was a hue of blue and black as the outside couldn't be seen clearly. The knocks continued though. The child not moving from his place as he still had tons of things to mourn on. The hue of blue slowly slowly shifts out of place and dissappears.
*thud**shuffle*
The door to Charlie's room creaked open as the child glanced towards the door and spoke in an ever so quiet voice.
"Hello...?" The child's voice rang through the empty room.
"......" the answer was nothing, the creature didn't move from the doorframe, It's grip on the door handle still as tight as ever. It looked as if it were too nervous about something... that's what the child thought.
The creature was covered in black clothing head to toe, with a blue mask to the face. He was hunched as he seemed to be taller than the kids room. He had some black liquid running down the sockets of the mask. This all not scaring the child, instead, intriguing his interest in him further. It had been a while since he had some humanly interaction.
"who are you...?" the child asked as he can make out a black silhouette in the doorframe
"............." the thing yet again unfazed by his question stood their silently while still gripping tight on the door handle. This kept confusing the little child, is the monster afraid of him? He is standing there as if he were late to a class?.
"please answer me..." the young child pleaded to the unknown thing
".... y-...yes...?" the thing rasped, finally talking to a person after a long while, it didn't know what to say.
The child was filled with glee when he heard the answer, the thing had finally answered his question! Yaaaay!
"how are you doing?" the child chimed the moment he heard a response. He was taught this way of conversation. To immediately ask for someone's wellbeing after being returned with an hello, though he didn't say that.
"....eh?..." the thing let out a low chuckle at the little boy's innocence. Now, this little guy, wishes to keep a conversation with.. him?
"I suppose I am doing quiet well... kid" He replied in his husk voice.
"That's great!" The child chimed loudly.
Now now, what blood won't keep a cannibal away? Not gonna lie though, Jack had a nice feast for the past few weeks.

Blog #4: 6 Short Stories
STORY #1: GOD SEES THE TRUTH BUT WAITS BY TOLSTOY
"God Sees the Truth, But Waits" is a short story by Russian author Leo Tolstoy first published in 1872. The story, about a man sent to prison for a murder he didn't commit, takes the form of a parable of forgiveness. English translations were also published under titles "The Confessed Crime" and "Exiled to Siberia".
This story "God sees the truth but waits" is somehow relatable for me. There will come a time that we will faced an obstacle that is really difficult. It will test our faith, our strength, our minds and our hearts. We will be put in a situation where in we dont have any choice but to trust the Lord.
Aksionov has been accused of something he didn't do. All of the people around him even his wife doubted him, but the Lord didn't. This shows that when we go through something, all the people around us even those whom we trust and love the most may leave us, may betrayed us, may doubt us but the Lord will not. People will doubt you, people will not trust you, but our Lord will. He sees and he knows the truth, he knows every pain that we had felt during our hard times. We should always keep in mind that, even if the whole world turn its back on us, the Lord will not. Our God is faithful to us, to his promises and that is the only important thing that we should know.
STORY #2: THE PIECE OF STRING BY MAUPASSANT
In The Piece of String, crafty old Maitre Hauchecorne is falsely accused of having stolen a man's pocketbook. He explains that he just bent down to pick up a piece of string, but no one believes him, not even after the pocketbook is found and returned.
The Piece of String" is an 1883 short story by Guy de Maupassant. It is included in the short story collection "Miss Harriet".
In this story, it made me realized that people are easy to judge and easy to be judge. People judge without even knowing the real story, the context behind what happened. We judge just because something happened. People judge without even thinking the consequences of their action. What if the person that has been judged has just been wrongly accused just like Hauchecorne? The effect and the consequences of people's judgement in Hauchecorne's life lasts until his very last breath. This story actually reminds me of a saying, that even if you did a million good deeds in this world, just one mistake everybody will turn their back at you. That is the sad reality of life.
STORY #3: THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH BY POE
"The Masque of the Red Death", originally published as "The Mask of the Red Death: A Fantasy", is a short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, first published in 1842. The story follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey.
The Masque of the Red Death is an example of allegory. This story features a set of recognizable symbols in which the meanings combine will convey a message. We can read this story as an allegory about life and death and the powerlessness of us humans to avoid death. In Prospero's case, even though he is really rich and wealthy, he is arrogant and his arrogance led him to his death.
The Masque of the Red death made me realized that no one can escape death. No matter how wealthy and rich you are, no matter how poor you are, whatever your status is in this world, even if you are really old or really young, no one can escape our tragic faith, which is to die. We can make some ways, we can do things just for us to avoid death but at the end of day, if we are meant to say good bye to this world already, we should accept our fate.
STORY #4: A QUESTION OF DOWRY BY KILLINGLEY
In this story, it made me realized that no matter how much we want something if it wasn't meant to be, then it will not happen. We should just learn to accept things that are not meant for us because for sure something or someone better will come. There are times that we are almost at the peak but in the end we will know that its not for us and it is okay. Acceptance takes time but it is part of the healing process and will eventually led us to the path or to that someone who is meant for us.
STORY #5: A ROSE FOR EMILY BY FAULKNER
"A Rose for Emily" is a short story by American author William Faulkner, first published in the April 30, 1930, issue of The Forum. The story takes place in Faulkner's fictional city Jefferson, Mississippi, in the fictional southern county of Yoknapatawpha.
With Emily, she encountered a lot of things, mostly struggles in her life, in her family, in her self until that day came. She died at the age of seventy-four. After some things happened, she keep her life lowkey until she died. Emily's death showed how the entire town attended her funeral in her home, which no stranger had entered for more than ten years.
After reading the story, i realized that time will really come that we need to say good bye to this world. Even though, we still want to do something, or we still need to accomplish something, if we are meant to say good bye, we dont have a choice.
STORY #6: HILLS LIKE WHITE ELEPHANT BY HEMINGWAY
"Hills Like White Elephants" is a short story by Ernest Hemingway. It was first published in August 1927, in the literary magazine transition, then later in the 1927 short story collection Men Without Women.
With this story I realized that there will come a time that someone or something will come to our lives and challenge us to take the easy way or the easy option for something. They will say that that is the best option, that that is the easiest way, that once we chose that we will not regret it, that we will be happy. But come to think of it, there is no such thing as easy as one two and three, everything needs a process. Now, it is up to us if we will choose the easy way or not.

Four times Kara didn't say she loved Lena (and one time she did)
Original work on Ao3. ENJOY! ●●● i. The first time Lena heard Kara say ‘I love you’ it wasn’t directly at her. They were in the middle of yet another interview – or maybe it was the end, she kind of lost track of time around the bubbly blonde reporter – when Kara’s phone ringed and she excused herself to answer her sister’s call. “Hey, Alex!” She had said with a smile, rolling her eyes at something her sister said back. “I’m not bailing on you, I’ll be there in time, don’t worry!” Lena tried her best to pretend she wasn’t eavesdropping even though Kara was right there in front of her, humming at Agent Danvers words. “Try to relax, okay? I’m on my way.” Kara smiled affectionately, and Lena wanted to scream at the butterflies in her stomach to fucking get it together. “Bye, I love you!” Lena quickly looked up at those words, heart beating fast and fucking butterflies making a fuss yet again. While she and Lex had a great relationship growing up, always supporting and teasing each other over dreams and silly things, they rarely shared any affections. He used to ruffle her hair when she done something good or a smart move at chess, and she would touch and squeeze his arm when one of his crazy projects worked out without exploding his room. The first and probably only time they said I love yous was right after Lionel’s death. Kara said I love you to her sister like she meant every word of it, and like she wouldn't stop saying that any time soon. Kara's words made Lena's insides melt. "Sorry about that," Kara said shyly, hanging up. "We're having dinner with my sister's girlfriend's family for the first time tonight. Our mom is meeting Maggie's aunt and husband, and Alex is freaking out making sure everything looks perfect, so apparently I have to be there right now or I'm dead!" Lena laughed and walked Kara to her office door, before they shared a brief but tight hug. "Text me later to let me know Supergirl's sister didn't kill her." Kara blushed and nodded, "Bye, Lena." Lena stared at Kara as the blonde walked to the elevator, thinking about her fainting I love you and how Alex Danvers was lucky to hear those words everyday. ii. Visiting the DEO base for the first time made Lena remember her first time in Disneyland right before Lex went away to college - Lillian's last attempt to spend more time with her son and Lionel’s gift to Lena for her 12th birthday. Everything was magical. She went there to sign the papers about Kara's secret identity, but then somehow ended up helping Winn solve a cyber attack happening simultaneously all over the country after the surprise release of an alien malware used to collect informations about every alien related secret the government had. It would take Winn and his team hours to solve the problem. With Lena's help though, it took them two. Kara wrapped both arms around Lena and Winn's shoulders as the whole base clapped and cheered over their success. Even J'onn J'onnz's lips turned upwards a tiny little. After that it turned a common occurrance for Lena to visit DEO for professional reasons, weather to help Winn and his brilliant team with new algorithms, or Alex's researches in the incredible base's lab, or maybe only to watch Kara working out. And she knows the last one it's not professional, okay? Don't judge her. Lena knew by now that Kara and Winn were best friends even before she came out as a superhero. She knew they bonded over working for Cat Grant the great Queen of All Media, and she admired both of them for putting up with all of Cat's crazyness. Kara and Winn were like over excited puppies or maybe kindergarten partners in crime, and Lena was glad Kara had someone like him to be there for her no matter what. Even if their closeness made Lena jealous as fuck sometimes. But of course she couldn't say that out loud. Lena and Kara were only friends. Sure, they hung out, had lunch or dinner together most days, were partners in game nights for the past couple of months, secretly texted each other about boring meets they had to attend, teased Maggie and Alex for being such a married couple already and Kara gave Lena the best back massages ever... but they only friends. And if Lena felt something for the blonde, that was entirely her own problem. She couldn't force her feelings on someone else. Kara was such a lovely human being and her friendship with Winn was really a precious thing to see. The three of them were once again in the lab, hunched over a table where Winn was trying to recreate Kara's aunt special suit that prevented Astra and the others from the dangerous effects of kryptonite. Kara was quite happy with the possibility of not having to worry about the mineral in a fight, and Lena couldn't say she wasn't relived over the fact maybe she didn't have to see Kara being carried to her sun bed still bleeding. She wished she could wipe away that memory. "I can't believe it!" Winn said quietly, making Lena and Kara stop their completely serious thumb fight to look at him. "I'm a freaking genius... oh God, I'm a freaking genius!" Kara was already smiling widely, "You did it?" Winn raised his fists in the air, jumping up and down, laughing. "Gimme a Rocky Balboa song, baby, because I DID IT!" Kara screamed and threw herself in Winn's arms, holding onto him like a baby koala. "I fucking love you, Winn! I love you! I love you!" "Oh, I know! I know!" Lena wanted to stab the jealousy monster right in the eye. She didn't have time to dwell too much into it, though, becuse Winn and Kara were now looking at her with that twin glint in their eyes and... Oh no. Lena was tackled to the ground before she could run, trapped in a messy group bear hug and giggling fits. When Alex found them down there with raised eyebrows, the three of them screamed 'WE DID IT!', before pulling her down too. iii. Lena Luthor was a genius. Lena Luthor was the youngest CEO L-Corp had in its history. Lena Luthor was fucking scared to meet Eliza Danvers. "You're pathetic, Luthor." Maggie mumbled as they cut vegetables for the salad in Kara's kitchen. Lena looked up to see Maggie's annoying smirk. "What are you talking about?" Lena asked, eyes now back to the baby carrots she was meticulously cutting. Maggie looked over her shoulder to where Alex and Kara were talking as they set up the table. When she turned her eyes back to Lena, she was smirking again. "You may look all calm and collected, but buying all these flowers arrangements and that expensive wine that probably costs more than my apartment kinda gives you away." Maggie whispered. "Actually your devotion to those carrots and how you make heart eyes at Kara makes it even more obvious." Lens blushed but tried to act cool. "I don't know what you're talking about." "Right. And I didn't fuck Alex on your office couch." Ew. EW! Lena's hand slipped as she looked with widen eyes at the detective, face as red as the blood now dripping from her index finger all over the kitchen island. "You and little Danvers were taking too damn long to make a good use of it." Maggie shrugged as if it was nothing. "MAGGIE!" She pointed the knife towards the detective. "What's happening here?" "Lena, you're bleeding?" In a blink Kara was right beside here, Lena's hand in hers as she took the knife away from the CEO to give a better look at the cut. "Margaret it's what's happening! They had sex on ou- on my office couch!" Kara gasped as she looked at her sister and her girlfriend, Maggie laughing so hard she barely made any sound and Alex hiding her flushed face behind her hands, mortified. "Maggie, I can't believe you!" Alex groaned. "Lena's meeting was taking too long!" Before anything else could be said, they heard the doorbell ring. Kara glared at Alex as she still held Lena's hand in hers, making some pressure over the wound to keep it from bleeding too much, and Alex took a deep breath as she moved to open the door. Eliza was already smiling when the door opened, but the smile quickly turned into a frown when she noticed the tension. "Is something wrong?" "Lena cut her finger." Kara quickly said. "Oh dear..." Eliza quickly walked inside the apartment and approached the two of them, pushing Kara's hand away and replacing her daughter's hands with her own, looking at the cut. "It's deep, but nothing serious. Kara, go grab the first aid kit." Kara was gone and back in a second. Eliza moved Lena to the couch as Alex and Maggie finished cleaning the kitchen island and preparing the food, Kara watching attentively as her mother patched up Lena's finger. "There you go. All good." Eliza said when she finished wrapping Lena's finger in a Minions band aid. She smiled. "I'm Eliza Danvers, by the way." Lena gulped and looked up into the older woman's eyes, suddenly feeling nervous yet again. "Lena Luthor, ma'am." Kara giggled at her words and Lena felt very embarrassed. "Only Eliza it's fine. I was actually looking forward to meet you, Lena. Of course, under better circumstances." Lena looked surprised at Eliza. Since Kara's invitation to dinner to meet her adoptive mother last week, Lena had been nervous. She wasn't used to meeting moms and this was Kara's mom. "You were?" "Kara talks so much about you, I felt like I knew you already!" "Mom..." Kara whined, cheeks turning pink and looking away. Lena heard Maggie and Alex giggling in the back like high school teenagers. "She only said good thing, of course." Eliza took Lena's hands between her own and looked right into green eyes. "And I also would like to congratulate you on your public speech in the Congress about the new National Alien Immigration Law Center. That's a very important step for aliens to come out of the shadows and seek our help. Hopefully more and more countries will follow our lead. I'm very proud of you, Lena." Lena felt her eyes stinging as she looked back at Eliza. In all her twenty five years of miserable life she never heard her own mother say such gentle words with that soft motherly tone. She took a deep breath and tried her best to prevent the tears from falling. "Thank you, Eliza. Really." "Oh, come here!" Eliza opened her arms and pulled Lena into the warmest hug she's ever felt - except Kara's. Then she felt Kara hugging both of them, reaching for her mother over Lena's shoulder to kiss Eliza's cheek. "I love you, mom." She said softly. "I love you, too, sweetie." Alex cleared her throat. "I love all of my girls!" Eliza said louder as they laughed. iv. Maggie was a little shit. They all knew that. And Lena would never forgive her for having sex on her own office couch before Lena even had the chance to maybe, one day in the future, make a good use of it with Kara. It was their couch! But still, Maggie had Kara's back and vice versa. Sometimes they went out to lunch only the two of them, when neither Lena or Alex had the time to tag along. They started to do yoga classes together, which Lena couldn't really complain because Kara stretching her body was an amazing sight, before they moved to kick boxing. When Kara started to say fuck more often, Lena and Alex both agreed that that was probably the limit of things. "You'd think I would be glad my little sister and girlfriend are getting along so well, but I kind of wish they hated each other right now." Alex said as they watched Maggie and Kara pour the biggest glass of beer the alien bar had down their throats, trying to see who could drink faster over a stupid bet. "Kara thinks she's turned into a badass." James said, chuckling when Maggie and Kara finished their beers at the same time, the two of them burping loudly. "For Christ's sake..." Alex mumbled as they approached their table once again. "Did you finish?" Lena asked Kara when the blonde sat back down by her side, wiping away the beer mustache the reporter had with a napkin. "Uhum!" Kara hummed and nodded quickly, her glasses sliding down her nose a little. "Maggie was teaching me some cool pick up lines!" Alex glared at her girlfriend, who raised her hands in surrender. "She might want to use some in future!" Lena pretended she didn't see everybody looking at her with the corners of their eyes. She knew they all thought she should make a move or something towards Kara. But why did it have to be her? If Kara felt anything for Lena, she would've said something by now. But Kara was as affectionate with Lena as with everybody else. And she didn't want to mess up their friendship. "I might!" Kara nodded quickly again, smiling. "You should try it right now, little Danvers!" Maggie, the little shit. Lena sighed as she prepared herself to see Kara find some bulky guy to practice her ridiculous pick up lines on, but the blonde only bit her bottom lip, looking around. Then she turned to look at Lena. "Hey, Lee! I may be Batman but you're Robin my heart!" Kara's cheeks were flushed from the drinks and Lena thought she looked beautiful. But all of their friends were making such a fools of themselves as they punched the table, laughing hard. "Was it good?" Kara looked from Lena to Maggie, seeking for her master's approval. "Try the Super ones!" Kara thought for a moment before she looked at Lena again, "Did I hit you with my heat vision? Because you're on fire!" Lena palmed her red cheeks as she too started to laugh at Kara's words. "Oh! I have another: I think your clothes are made of kryptonite, we have to get rid of them immediately!" "Okay!" Alex said as she clapped her hands. "I think that's enough, let's get this ladykiller home!" Alex helped Kara with her coat since the blonde was too drunk to put it on her own, and Lena grabbed Kara's purse, following Alex and Maggie outside, as they supported the blonde's heavy body to Lena's car. "Than you for our lessons, master. Did you think it worked?" Kara asked Maggie, the reporter's arm still around her shoulders. "You'll have to ask Lena later." Maggie said with a smile. "Okay... I love you, Maggie." Kara said softly, kissing Maggie's cheek. "I love you, too, baby Danvers." Maggie closed the passanger's door and winked at Lena over the roof is the car. "She's all yours now, Luthor." Lena could only wish. +1. Lena was getting used to hear Kara say 'I love you' to almost everyone by now. She said it to Mon-El once after he got beaten up by some giant crazy alien that looked like a crocodile, putting himself between the Croc and a group of citizens, giving them time to run. He was starting to learn to be a hero and a good Supergirl sidekick. When he didn't spent time hitting on girls, that is, but Kara or Maggie would always slap the back of is neck as they told him to treat girls right, so Lena hoped he learned that too. Kara often said 'I love you' to J'onn. She ended calls with Clark with the same words. Cat Grant visited her once at CatCo and guess what? 'You know I love you, Cat!' She said it to Brad, her doorman when he helped with the grocerie bags. She said it to Lena's doorman once for the same reason. And she said it to Bruce Wayne after an interview over the phone, but she insisted she didn't mean it, it was just force of habit. But she never said it to Lena. Not even once. Not even if just by the force of habit. And Lena shouldn't feel hurt, but she did. "Do you love me, Kara?" Lena finally asked one night. They had been watching a movie on Alex and Maggie's place as they waited for the couple to return with the food. Lena's head was resting on Kara's thigh on the couch, but apparently Kara had been so startled by the question she jumped, forcing Lena to sit up. "W-what?" Kara asked nervously. "Why are you asking me that?" Lena sighed. "It's just... you have this crazy habit of saying 'I love you' to just about anyone!" She finally said, running her hands over her dark hair, frustrated. "You say it to Alex, you say it to Eliza, you say you love Clark before finishing your calls, you said it to Brad the doorman once. Even Mon-El got his declaration of love!" Kara was opening and closing her mouth quickly, like a fish out of the sea. "But.... that's... that's just... me, you know!" Lena smiled sadly at that. "I know. I do know. But you never told me. Not even over a phone call." Lena looked down at her hands, suddenly feeling very stupid to start this discussion. "Look... let's forget I said anything, okay?" She smiled but it didn't sound funny. "I get it. It's hard to say those words to a Luthor and-" "It's not that." Kara said just above a whisper. "I could never say I love you without making it sound something so much deeper than that." Lena looked up quickly, frowning at Kara's words. "What do you mean?" "I wouldn't be able to say I love you without wanting to make love to you." Kara's hands were shaking as she said that. "I do like to say how much I appreciate having people I can trust and cherish in my life. I had no one. My planet was gone. And this was my second chance." Kara took Lena's hands between her own. "But meeting someone like you it's a one time thing, Lena. Our friendship it's something I would never risk losing." Lena felt Kara's hands move to her cheeks. "You don't know how much I love you, Lena. How many times I had to force myself to keep the words inside. I love your smile... Rao, it feels like flying over the clouds and bathing in the first rays of sunshine. I love how green your eyes are. I love how I can read your humour through your eyebrows, and I love the way you clench your jaw when yore concentrating too hard on your work. I love your voice when you say my name and the sound of your laughter, I love your skin and how soft it is, it makes me crazy. I love how you love people, no matter where they're from." Lena smiled as she wiped away relieved tears, because Kara finally said she loved her. "I'm fucking in love with you, Lena." Even better. "I'm in love with you, too, but I hate you for taking too fucking long to tell me that!" "Then I'll have to say it everyday." Kara smiled, before leaning in and covering Lena's lips with her own in a slow but deep kiss. They broke apart a few moments later, trying to catch their breath. "I love you. I love you. I love you..." Kara mumbled as she peppered kisses all over Lena's face. The CEO smirked as she laid down on the couch. "You know, I think Maggie's couch it's so comfortable." Kara raised an eyebrow. "Lena, no..." "Lena, yes." Then Lena yanked down the woman she loved and that loved her back for another hungry kiss. Suck that, Maggie!

Supreme Court Appears Ready to Let Trump End DACA Program
The justices are considering whether the Trump administration can shut down a program that shields about 700,000 young immigrants from deportation.
By Adam Liptak | Published Nov. 12, 2019 Updated 1:26 PM ET | New York Times | Posted November 12, 2019 |
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court’s conservative majority on Tuesday appeared ready to side with the Trump administration in its efforts to shut down a program protecting about 700,000 young immigrants known as “Dreamers.”
The court’s liberal justices probed the administration’s justifications for ending the program, expressing skepticism about its rationales for doing so. But other justices indicated that they would not second-guess the administration’s reasoning and, in any event, considered its explanations sufficient.
Still, there was agreement among the justices that the young people who signed up for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, were sympathetic and that they and their families, schools and employers had relied on it in good faith.
The arguments in the case, one of the most important of the term, addressed presidential power over immigration, a signature issue for President Trump and a divisive one, especially as it has played out in the debate over DACA, a program that has broad, bipartisan support.
The program, announced by President Barack Obama in 2012, allows young people brought to the United States as children to apply for a temporary status that shields them from deportation and allows them to work. The status lasts for two years and is renewable, but it does not provide a path to citizenship.
In the past, Mr. Trump has praised the program’s goals and suggested he wanted to preserve it. “Does anybody really want to throw out good, educated and accomplished young people who have jobs, some serving in the military?” he asked in a 2017 Twitter post.
But as the court took up its future on Tuesday, Mr. Trump struck a different tone. “Many of the people in DACA, no longer very young, are far from ‘angels,’” he wrote on Twitter. “Some are very tough, hardened criminals.”
In fact, the program has strict requirements. To be eligible for DACA status, applicants had to show that they had committed no serious crimes, had arrived in the United States before they turned 16 and were no older than 30, had lived in the United States for at least the previous five years, and were a high school graduate or a veteran.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor said the DACA recipients were justified in relying on Mr. Trump’s earlier statements, which she paraphrased. “They were safe under him,” she said, “and he would find a way to keep them here.”
The roots of the decision to shut down the program figured in the argument, as the justices parsed two sets of rationales from successive heads of the Department of Homeland Security.
After contentious debates among his aides, Mr. Trump announced in September 2017 that he would wind down the program. He gave only a single reason for doing so, saying that creating or maintaining the program was beyond the legal power of any president.
“I do not favor punishing children,” Mr. Trump said in his formal announcement of the termination. But, he added, “the program is unlawful and unconstitutional and cannot be successfully defended in court.”
That decision was reflected in bare-bones memo from Elaine C. Duke, then the acting secretary of homeland security. She offered no policy reasons for the move.
Theodore B. Olson, a lawyer for the DACA recipients, said the memo allowed the administration to avoid taking political heat on the issue. “The administration did not want to own the decision,” he said.
Solicitor General Noel J. Francisco, arguing for the administration, disagreed. “We own it,” he said.
Mr. Francisco pointed to a second memo, issued last year by Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary at the time. It mostly relied on the earlier rationales in Ms. Duke’s memo, but added one more, about the importance of projecting a message “that leaves no doubt regarding the clear, consistent and transparent enforcement of the immigration laws against all classes and categories of aliens.”
That policy justification, Mr. Francisco said, was sufficient even if the administration was mistaken in its legal rationale.
Mr. Olson disagreed. “You have to have a rational explanation,” he said. “It must make sense. It must be contemporaneous.”
Michael J. Mongan, California’s solicitor general, who argued in favor of the program, called Ms. Nielsen’s new rationale “boilerplate.”
The Trump administration’s argument that the program was unlawful was based on a 2015 ruling from the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, in New Orleans. But that decision concerned a different, much larger program. Lower courts have ruled that the two programs differed in important ways, undermining the administration’s legal analysis.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said on Tuesday that it was impossible to disentangle the administration’s legal rationale from its later policy justification. “We don’t know how she would respond,” Justice Ginsburg said of Ms. Nielsen, “if there were a clear recognition that there is nothing illegal about DACA.”
The justices have examined the Trump administration’s justifications for its initiatives on immigration in other cases.
In 2018, the court upheld Mr. Trump’s order limiting travel from several predominantly Muslim nations, relying on the justifications set out in a presidential proclamation and refusing to consider statements from Mr. Trump concerning his desire to impose a “Muslim ban.”
In June, however, the Supreme Court rejected the administration’s rationale for adding a citizenship question to the census. “The sole stated reason” for adding the question, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. wrote for the majority, “seems to have been contrived.”
In a Supreme Court brief, the administration said the DACA cases, including the Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California, No. 18-587, were different.
“The courts below erred,” the brief said, “in second-guessing D.H.S.’s entirely rational judgment to stop facilitating ongoing violations of federal law on a massive scale.”
On Tuesday, the justices frequently referred to the DACA recipients themselves. “I hear a lot of facts, sympathetic facts, that you’ve put out there, and they speak to all of us,” Justice Neil M. Gorsuch told Mr. Olson.
But Justice Gorsuch said he had doubts about whether it was the role of the Supreme Court to review the administration’s decision to terminate the program.

Supreme Court leans toward Trump on ending 'Dreamers' immigrant program
By Lawrence Hurley, Andrew Chung | Published November 12, 2019, 1:07 PM ET | Reuters | Posted Nov. 12, 2019 |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court’s conservative majority signaled support on Tuesday for President Donald Trump’s bid to kill a program that protects hundreds of thousands of immigrants - dubbed “Dreamers” - who entered the United States illegally as children, even as liberal justices complained that the move would destroy lives.
The court’s ideological divisions were on full display as it heard the administration’s appeal of lower court rulings that blocked the Republican president’s 2017 plan to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, created in 2012 by his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama.
DACA currently shields about 660,000 immigrants - mostly Hispanic young adults - from deportation and provides them work permits, though not a path to citizenship. Trump’s bid to end it is part of his hardline immigration polices.
Conservative justices questioned whether courts even have the power to review Trump’s action and also seemed to reject the views of lower courts that his administration had failed to properly justify ending DACA, a program Obama implemented after Congress failed to pass bipartisan immigration reform.
The court’s 5-4 conservative majority includes two Trump appointees - Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh - who both indicated support for the president’s action.
Liberal justices emphasized the large number of individuals, businesses and others who have relied on the program and indicated that the administration did not sufficiently weigh those concerns. Justice Sonia Sotomayor referred to Trump’s decision as a “choice to destroy lives” and indicated that his administration had failed to supply the required policy rationale to make the move lawful.
Kavanaugh said he assumed that the administration’s analysis of the impact rescinding DACA would have on individuals was a “very considered decision.”
“I mean, this is a serious decision. We all agree on that,” Kavanaugh added.
A ruling is due by the end of June.
Trump’s administration has argued that Obama exceeded his constitutional powers when he created DACA by executive action, bypassing Congress. Trump has made his hardline immigration policies - cracking down on legal and illegal immigration and pursuing construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexican border - a centerpiece of his presidency and 2020 re-election campaign.
The challengers who sued to stop Trump’s action included a collection of states such as California and New York, people currently protected by the program and civil rights groups.
Even if Trump were to lose this time, his administration would be free to come up with new reasons to end the program in the future, a point picked up by Gorsuch.
“What good would another five years of litigation over the adequacy of that explanation serve?” Gorsuch asked.
Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts, who could be the pivotal vote in deciding the case, likewise indicated he was satisfied with the administration’s rationale.
Roberts, however, had appeared sympathetic to Trump in a case this year on the administration’s attempt to add a contentious citizenship question to the 2020 census - a move critics said was intended to deter immigrants from being included in the nation’s official population count. Roberts cast the decisive vote against the president in a 5-4 ruling.
TRAVEL BAN
The Supreme Court previously handed Trump a major victory on immigration policy last year when it upheld as lawful his travel ban blocking people from several Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States, finding that the president has broad discretion to set such policy.
Lower court rulings in California, New York and the District of Columbia left DACA in place, finding that Trump’s move to rescind it was likely “arbitrary and capricious” and violated a U.S. law called the Administrative Procedure Act.
The young people protected under DACA, Obama said, were raised and educated in the United States, grew up as Americans and often know little about their countries of origin.
Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Supreme Court justice, wondered if the court should take into account the fact that Trump has said he would look after “Dreamers.”
“He hasn’t” taken care of them, she said. “And that, I think, is something to be considered before you rescind a policy.”
Much of the administration’s reasoning was based on then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ conclusion in 2017 that the program was unlawful. Liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg pressed U.S. Solicitor General Noel Francisco, who argued the case for the administration, on the government’s reliance on the assertion that DACA was unlawful.
The administration could have just said “we don’t like DACA and we’re taking responsibility for that instead of trying to put the blame on the law,” Ginsburg said.
Francisco, who also argued the travel ban case, said the administration was not trying to shirk responsibility for ending a popular program.
“We own this,” Francisco said, referring to Trump’s decision to kill DACA.
Trump has given mixed messages about the “Dreamers,” saying in 2017 that he has “a great love” for them even as he sought to kill the program that protected them from deportation.
Trump on Tuesday took to Twitter to attack “many” DACA recipients as “tough, hardened criminals,” without offering evidence, and again dangled the possibility of a deal with congressional Democrats to allow people protected under the program to remain in the United States. Trump has never proposed a detailed replacement for DACA.
Several hundred DACA supporters gathered outside the court on a gray and chilly Tuesday morning, chanting, banging drums and carrying signs that read “home is here” and “defend DACA.”

Trump administration tells Supreme Court it owns termination of DACA program
By Robert Barnes | Published November 12 at 12:42 PM ET | Washington Post | Posted November 12, 2019 |
The Trump administration told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it has decided that the program that shields from deportation young undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children should end regardless of its legality, and that there would be no point in asking it again to come up with additional justifications.
“We own this,” Solicitor General Noel Francisco told the court during a more than 80-minute oral argument over the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which President Barack Obama authorized through executive action in 2012 to protect law-abiding immigrants brought to the United States as children.
His arguments seemed to resonate with the court’s dominant conservatives.
Nearly 700,000 people are enrolled in the program, which provides a renewable grant of protection from deportation and carries with it work authorization. But Francisco said the Department of Homeland Security disagrees with providing such a large classification of people with immunity from laws that usually would demand their removal.
Lower courts have said that President Trump’s decision in 2017 to terminate the program was based on a faulty belief that the program was legally and constitutionally defective and that the administration has failed to provide reasons for ending it that courts and the public can judge.
Francisco disputed that. While the first memo outlining termination of the program relied exclusively on the view that the program was illegal, he said, a subsequent agenda memo invited by a judge during the litigation supplied other reasons. There would be no point in requiring the administration to repeat that step, he said.
Trump has said it is necessary for the Supreme Court to agree with the administration’s view to get congressional Democrats back to the negotiating table to come up with a more permanent solution.
In general, the court’s liberals seemed highly skeptical of the administration’s actions, while the conservatives seemed open to the idea that it had the power to terminate the program. The court’s decision is likely to take months.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor mentioned Trump directly and highlighted the president’s conflicting statements about DACA recipients.
At one point, she said, Trump told the “dreamers” that “they were safe under him,” she told Francisco. Then, abruptly, the administration said it would be ending the program in a short time, giving them “six months to destroy your lives.”
Other liberal justices also wondered whether the government has more of a responsibility to say why it was ending a program that, according to dozens of briefs in the case, universities, cities, employers and the recipients themselves have come to rely on.
But Francisco said even Obama described the program as a temporary, “stopgap” measure. Recipients must reapply every two years, he said, or the benefits expire on their own.
Washington lawyer Theodore B. Olson, arguing on behalf of a coalition of businesses, civil rights groups, universities and individuals, said DACA was different from most programs because the government “invited them into the program.” Olson, a former solicitor general under President George W. Bush, said the recipients have identified themselves and made their deportation easier.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said deportation was unlikely — the government wouldn’t have the resources to undertake such a mass action. The real issue, he said, was work authorization.
The Trump administration moved to scuttle the DACA program in 2017 after Texas and other states threatened to sue to force its end. Then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions advised the Department of Homeland Security that the program was probably unlawful and that it could not be defended.
Sessions based that decision on a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, which said that another Obama program protecting immigrants was beyond the president’s constitutional powers. The Supreme Court deadlocked 4 to 4 in 2016 when considering the issue.
Olson said that advice from Sessions gave the department no other option but to end the program. The court should require the administration to start over and give reasoned arguments for why it is in the country’s best interests to end the program.
But Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, who said the “sympathetic facts” about DACA recipients “speak to all of us,” wondered what would be the point. “What more would you have the government say?” he asked Olson.
Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh also said a subsequent memo from then-DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen seemed to list reasons other than Sessions’s view that the program was illegal.
But Justices Elena Kagan and Ruth Bader Ginsburg said a presumption about the program’s illegality provides the backdrop for all of the administration’s actions.
Lower courts have rejected Sessions’s view. They have kept the program in place, restricting new applicants but allowing those already enrolled to renew their participation. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D), who is among those fighting the administration’s decision, said that about 400,000 two-year renewals have been approved since January 2018.
The program is open to those who were brought to the United States before they were 16, have lived here at least five years, paid for and received a background check and have a clean legal record. The program does not provide a path to citizenship, but it does allow recipients to work legally and to renew their two-year protection from deportation.
A government study found more than 90 percent of recipients, who now are in the 20s and 30s, are employed, and about half are students.
The Trump administration, which usually argues for broad executive power, in this case is arguing that the program is flawed and could not be defended against challenges from states that want to end it.
The Supreme Court’s somewhat reluctant review of the DACA program — it waited for months before accepting the case — meant that, for the third consecutive year, the high court will pass judgment on a Trump priority that has been stifled by federal judges, this time in a presidential election year and in a case with passionate advocates and huge consequences.
The Supreme Court ended its term in June by putting on hold the Trump administration’s plan to put a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. In 2018, it narrowly approved the president’s travel ban on arrivals from a handful of mostly Muslim countries.
The consolidated cases the court heard Tuesday are Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California, Trump v. NAACP and McAleenan v. Vidal.
