Tip walking through Inexact Verdict City!

it took me so long, but I'm pretty proud. It's my first time drawing like full rendered background and some perspective. I know I fucked up a bit, but I'll make sure to improve in future !

A bit of context from Tip lore:

This is after Tip had an argument with his sister which resulted in her running away. He felt really bad and decided to go after her, because he knew she'll try doing something stupid. He's walking through the city cautiously looking for her, but he's close to the city karma gate leading to the outside... Which results in him leaving his iterator can and searching for her outside.

I think it's interesting how SJM's books have taken on their current Tiktok reputation of being the most popular "faerie porn book" when the thing that has always stuck out to me as far more engrossing and unique about her writing is the life she pumps into her worldbuilding, and her magic systems.

Magic is never just a tool in her worlds. It lives and breathes like a sentient being and every single magically empowered person in her stories has a personal, symbiotic relationship to it that I find endlessly fascinating. The gods, and their permutations throughout each series bring a sense of galactic enormity to that magic, highlighting the events of each story and really mastering that feeling of fate and destiny. She takes the kind of all-powerful, world-spanning levels of power common to male authors in the fantasy genre and makes it sexy. Not by adding smut---but by mastering aesthetic. There's a reason SJ and all her stars and storms and crowns and shadows have sparked such an emulative phenomenon in the fantasy genre, and it's because it brought sexy back to having power that can destroy worlds. It's a power fantasy---written for women, instead of men.

Idk I just feel like the erotica pales in comparison to just how good Sarah is at making worlds that feel gorgeous and enchanting and vivid and populating them with characters who kick fucking ass. I wish that had been what made her blow up on Tiktok instead.

as i'm workin on my Ancient stuff- i've got to say that it is really interesting and neat (read: nasty) that there's a good chance most of the Ancient population probably didn't actually wear masks. but We think they did cuz the only really solid evidence of what they looked like at all all comes from places of the higher social circles. and those strived for religious... superiority, i guess. brownie points, not actual dedication to the religion for the sake of its teachings but either because it made them look good, put them higher in the social hierarchy or whatever manipulation have you (or the flawed look upon the religion aka "we gotta get out of this cycle no matter what")

all we are left with are the bastards. the simple people and their cultures that were left to weather the Iterators' rains were simply washed away. nobody cared for their way of life- as long as it served the higher circles well and they stayed submissive (enough so that at the end everyone would take a dip in the void), nobody had to give a singular shit

just how much do we not know about the Ancients' *everything* because of this disregard? how much do we think we are right about, when such is true only for the small but privileged piece of the species?

BASICALLY his Puppet was originally very simple in design (closer to Fathom's when it comes to marking placement). Normal forearm markings, triangles on the face, stuff like that. But then he went. Well. This isn't quite right, and I wanna try something different! This isn't me! (Or something. We joke about him taking a look at himself and being like "oh absolutely not" a lot)

And because he has the facilities to mass manufacture paint (and other stuff) he basically made some permanent puppet paint for himself and just went wild! And he loves how he looks! He is so so happy with himself. Body paint in general is also like one of his weird love languages alongside touch and gift giving.

He's the type of guy to get people to draw him something and then he'll like tattoo it on himself (especially his family) Or just let them do it themselves. He still mixes it up though! Still paints on his body pretty often-- moving markings around just to see how it'd look, testing out colours and the like. Even if it's not as permanent it makes him happy! He has a very inconsistent design and it makes me happy when I get to play around with that (and when other people do too!! When they put their own spin on him!)

I remember I used to draw him with rainbow markings that kinda looked like stretch marks. That boy is just like his city (A canvas)

the day that network & studio execs finally get over their relentless obsession with cop shows and pre-existing ip and pre-existing ip in the form of cop shows will the day i finally know peace.

every goddamn show is "based on the novel" "based on the 1993 series" "based on this app where you throw hats at a potato" "the seventeenth spin-off set in the world of ncis" like please i'm begging you to just pick up one of the zillion new ideas that writers have been bringing you. there are so many incredible original pilots and series concepts being written every goddamn day and the people in charge of the money in this town are just like..... hmmmmm but instead could it be about an undercover cop who once had a run in with the team on law and order: toronto, and he has to solve a case based on this true crime novel i picked up at an airport last month?
