FACTS ABOUT THE POLEMAN'S RING.

For those who were curious, this year Monza GP decided to gift the poleman a jewel called the "L'anello della Regina" ("the ring of the queen").

Context:

The decision, which is unique to this specific GP, was taken to emphasize the city's history and the craftsmanship of the numerous goldsmiths in Brianza (the area where the grand prize is held).

As for the story of the symbol:

The ring is, in fact, a reproduction of one of the official emblems of Monza's history, the "Corona Ferrea"("Iron Crown"), the crown worn by the Longobard queen Teodolinda during the reign of the Longobards on the area.

This crown is well known in the area and has been the subject of various legends and a known symbol of status and power over the Lombardy territory through history. (Here is a photo of the crown)

From 1576, by order of Saint Carlo Borromeo, it also became an object of Christian religious worship (it is thought to contain one of the nails of the cross with which Jesus was crucified, ence the "subject of various legends") and since then it is kept inside the Dome of Monza.

As for the design:

As for the design, in addition to the clear reference to the iron crown, there are also inserts that recall the checkered flag, symbol of Motorsport, and a sequence of gemstones that feature the colors of the Italian flag (diamonds, rubies and tsavorite).

Also! The ring will be adapted to fit the poleman’s finger and his name will be engraved on the inside!

I am really happy for the inclusion of this lovely ring and grateful to master goldsmith Guido Guzzi who designed it and made it so beautiful.

This is truly a masterpiece and I am eagerly anticipating Norris wearing it during this weekend! (Congratulations for the pole btw!)

Dopo tredici anni i canadesi Desire, (aka Megan Louise e Johnny Jewel) danno alla luce il secondo album, Escape. La moda incessante di continuare a rispolverare il synthpop e le sonorità 80s continua incredibilmente a dare i propri frutti. Tante sfumature si sono sommate arricchendo questo genere, dalla synthwave a Molly Nillson, dal fantomatico film Drive fino a The Weeknd; perfino Taylor Swift e il suo entourage hanno composto due album su questa falsariga. C’è però da dire che solo alcuni artisti riescono ad estrapolare quello che è sempre stato presente, a livello storico, in questo genere: il latex, la componente oscura e sessuale, l’attaccamento a un certo tipo di dancefloor e i Desire, come tutto il roster dell'Italians do it Better Records rientrano esattamente in queste particolarità. Il genio di Johnny Jewel, producendo e promuovendo pochi album ogni anno ha contribuito a far rimanere questo genere nel suo spazio, accanto a Twin Peaks, accanto ad un certo immaginario dark-cult fatto di suoni stranianti, da pulsazioni da corse in macchina a mezzanotte.

Escape dipinge sempre un immaginario leather-gothic dove si balla e si parla in una darkroom. Ci sono brani paradisiaci ("Haenim") come altri incredibilmente iconici e scaldacuore ("Escape", "Love is a Crime") che non fanno altro che farci aumentare la voglia di rimettere su i Chromatics o i College. Altri invece sono incredibilmente calati in un mondo oscuro fatto corpi che strisciano fra loro ballando verso il raggiungimento di un orgasmo comune ("Black Latex", "Telling me Lies", "Ghosts"). Malinconico synthpop dalle melodie catchy, a volte volontariamente strappalacrime, da violento pathos di un cinema degli eccessi. Colonna sonora di un nostalgico film che – noi cultori – amiamo guardare e riguardare all’infinito coccolati da ogni cliché.
