Why to Use Epoxy Over Marble
Using epoxy over marble presents several advantages, especially in industrial applications. One primary benefit is enhanced durability; epoxy coatings provide a tough, protective layer that can withstand heavy use and exposure to various chemicals. This makes epoxy an excellent choice for high-traffic areas, where traditional marble might wear down more quickly.
Tumblr media
Another reason to consider epoxy over marble is the aesthetic appeal it can bring to a space. Epoxy can be formulated in various colours and finishes, allowing for customization to fit any industrial design requirement. Additionally, it helps to seal and protect marble surfaces, preventing stains and damage while maintaining their elegant appearance. For quality epoxy solutions specifically designed for industrial use, trust MB Enterprises to deliver exceptional products.

Some Art Vocabulary
Tumblr media
Abstract - Simplified, intended to capture an aspect or essence of an object or idea rather than to represent reality.
Amber - Tree resin that has become a fossil. It is semi-transparent and gem-like. Amber is used in jewelry today as it has been for thousands of years.
Amulet - Object, organic or inorganic, believed to provide protection and turn away bad luck. Amulets were often worn as jewelry in antiquity.
Anneal - To heat metal to make it soft and pliable.
Black-figure - Technique of vase painting developed in Greece in the 7th and 6th centuries BCE and adopted by the Etruscans. Figures are painted on a reddish clay vase in black silhouette and details are then cut away with a sharp point down to the red below. Sometimes artists added additional colors, especially purple-red and white.
Bronze Disease - Corrosion of a bronze object that cannot be permanently stabilized. Without special care, an object with bronze disease will continue to corrode.
Bust - Portrait of a person including the head and neck, and sometimes the shoulders and part of the chest.
Cameo Glass - Glass produced by layering two or more colors of glass. Generally, an upper layer of white stood out against a contrasting lower background, usually blue.
Cameo Stone - Hard stone, such as agate, naturally layered with bands of color. Artists took advantage of the layers to carve figures or decoration from an upper layer (or more than one), leaving a background layer of a different color.
Cast - To make in a mold from liquid metal. A cast object can be hollow or solid.
Chasing - Technique of adding definition and details to an image or design on metal from the front using blunt and sharp tools.
Conservator (of antiquities) - Professional responsible for preserving ancient objects and materials. Conservators usually have a general knowledge of chemistry and of ancient art-making practices and are often specialists in one material. Among many other responsibilities, they conduct technical and historical research and oversee preventive care such as climate control.
Contrapposto - (”opposite” in Italian) Pose of a standing figure with most of the weight on one leg and the other bent. This causes hips, shoulders, and head to shift in order to balance the body. One arm is often higher and one lower.
Emery - Hard, dense rock rich in corundum, found easily on the Cycladic Islands. A powerful abrasive for grinding and smoothing other stones.
Encaustic - Technique of painting using colored pigments mixed with wax. The waxy mixture was worked with a tiny spatula.
Gild - To apply a thin layer of gold foil or liquid gold (gilt) to create the look of solid gold.
Iconography - Study of and use in art of repeated images with symbolic meaning.
Incise - To press or cut into a surface (stone, metal, clay, wood) with a sharp tool to write text or create fine curving and linear details.
Inlay - To decorate an object by inserting a piece of another material into it so that it is even with the original surface.
Low Relief - Method of carving figures or designs into a surface so that they are raised slightly above a flat background.
Mosaic - Technique and type of artwork. The technique is to arrange cubes of stone, glass, and ceramic to form patterns and pictures in cement, usually on a floor. The artwork is the final story or decoration made of cubes.
Mummification - Process of preserving a body by drying it. The Egyptians removed internal organs and put natron, a natural mineral mixture, on and inside the body. This absorbed moisture and prevented decay.
Palmette - Stylized palm leaf used as decoration in ancient Greek and Roman art and architecture.
Pentelic - From Mount Pentelicus, near Athens. An adjective that mostly refers to the beautiful white Greek marble marble in its quarries.
Portrait - Image of a person, usually the head and face. Some portraits include part of the chest or show the whole body. The image may closely resemble a person or emphasize, idealize, or invent characteristics.
Repoussé - Technique of raising the outline of a design on metal by repeatedly heating and softening the metal and pushing the desired shapes into it from the back with a blunt tool.
Sarcophagus/Sarcophagi (pl) - Stone coffin, often decorated on the sides with mythological scenes carved in relief, sometimes with the image of the deceased person or couple on the lid. Used in Imperial Roman times from the early 100s into the 400s CE.
Stele/Stelai (pl) - Upright stone or wooden slab or pillar used to honor a person or mark a place. Often an inscribed grave marker or a boundary stone. (Also called stela/stelae.)
Syncretism - Blending of elements of different cultures, often resulting in new imagery or new interpretations.
Tessera/tesserae (pl) - Pieces of stone or other hard materials cut into squares or cubes to make mosaic art.

When we think of sustainable materials, bamboo, cork, recycled stone and reclaimed teak often come to mind. These building and surface materials are used extensively in both residential and commercial projects, enough to solidify them as the eco-friendly future of established architectural practices.
But what if we went even further? Creative and experimental designers worldwide are embracing much more unusual sustainable materials in a wide range of projects, be these sturdy floorboards and insulating panels, or small-scale decorative elements such as lamps, trays, vases and other furnishings. With designs hailing from Singapore and Indonesia, as well as distant studios in Italy and Palestine, here are the materials of tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Mogu’s mycelium floor tiles
Mushroom filaments may not seem like the sturdiest base for hardwearing floors, but the Italian designers behind Mogu would argue otherwise. Transformed into resilient tiles appropriate for luxury residences and even commercial spaces, the mycelium structure is topped with a layer of bio-based resin, granting it resistance to scratches and abrasions rivalling traditional flooring materials.
Tumblr media
Orange peel and pine needles make up the sustainable lampshades by Caracara Collective
Turning orange peel into useable furnishings and décor pieces is no small feat, yet the people behind the circularity-focused Caracara Collective in Finland have mastered this singular art. Inspired by the abundance of the natural, inherently sustainable materials around them, the designers created a series of lampshades made of orange peel, as well as pine needles from discarded Christmas trees.
As the collective puts it: “It takes around 20 squeezed oranges to create one lampshade. In other words, each lampshade is the by-product of someone drinking two litres of orange juice.”
Tumblr media
Markos Design’s Ostra lamp, made of discarded oyster shells
Discarded oyster shells are similarly repurposed on the island of Cyprus, transformed by Markos Design into Ostra, a ceramic-like biomaterial. Ostra is worked into statement lamp designs, naturally hardwearing thanks to the oysters’ high concentration of calcium carbonate, which also lends cement and concrete considerable strength.

Kill the Director by erikschampion
My part in a gift exchange taking place in Renegade's California satellite server. This was a lot of fun and very experimental for me. My idea was to pursue something a little grunge, a little smudged, to go along with the early 2000s Brit punk vibe that the fic gets its title from. Spray paint, screen printing, some blood, some tears, and it's to its new home. Glamour and process shots under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The yellow base is a plain linen bookcloth that's been coated with acrylic. The pink accent color is a combo of spray paint and smudges of pink Golden Fluid acrylic paint. The endbands are sewn with Gutermann polyester florescent sewing thread, and the endpages are my attempt at an italian vein marble with pink, yellow, and black paint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some shots of the typesetting, and a video showing the book as a whole. The fic has some exposition written in a script format, so I typeset that to reflect. And it's always fun to include text message bubbles and emails and stuff.
The graphics on the case were done with screens and waterbased screen printing ink! I went through a few iterations and even tried to set my kitchen on fire in order to get it right before settling on the screens. I'm very very pleased with the result. (The fire was from my DIY attempt at making my own gelli plate with gelatin, glycerin, and rubbing alcohol. All the instructions were telling me to be careful about how many bubbles I was stirring into the mix but I was like, it'll be fine. I'll use my heatgun or a lighter to pop whatever bubbles are there. It works with resin so it should here. Yall alcohol is flammable lmao. Why did I do that. I put my lighter up to those bubbles and lost my vision for a moment at the flash of light. I've never done something that stupid)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The freshly marbled paper hanging up to dry in my kitchen; the screen for the front of the case; my practice piece including the spine design; the case drying on my shower rod (along with some pieces of fabric for another project lol). I have fewer process pictures than I thought lol.
The graphics on the front and back were also partially designed by hand. I printed images of the characters then cut them vertically, and alternated the slices. Copied that, then did the same horizontally. Scanned that, and then did some cleaning up digitally on my computer. Here's some shots of the steps and the pieces themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The third picture shows my first attempt, as I actually did this process twice. The first time I didn't feel like the first pass was pixelated enough, so I cut it again both vertically and horizontally and alternated them once more. This was a mess, and ultimately I didn't like the finished result. Round two (second image) was the final round, and what wound up using in the project instead.
Thanks for looking!

I feel as though Eddie Munson would greatly enjoy being an Italian Greyhound dog dad. The ultimate practice child dog and he might even love it more than his own children. Just imagine, 30 year old Eddie at the supermarket, arms fuller than when he was a teen and more ink than he’d had as a youth laced over them. He’s got a pair of black sunglasses on to hide the reds of his eyes, and he no longer clinks with each step, chains long gone. Now, it’s just the hard click of his boots, reeboks traded in for leather. Throw in a couple of neck tattoos for the fun of it. He oozes sex appeal. But the small skinny, quivering dog in his arms, large fear-filled eyes from the over-stimulation his paw touching the resinous floor had caused in the mere 2 seconds it was there before he’d begun cowering against Eddie’s leg, does not.
The poor pup is shaking from his second long ordeal, overbite making him look even more pathetic and sickly. It’s the cutest thing. And that’s all anyone who lays eyes on Eddie, browsing through the aisles with his dog child in his arms, can think. Even the employees are bewitched, none bother approaching him to bring attention to their No Pets policy.

Oh my favorite perfume connoisseur-
Any fragrance recommendations for that dark academia aesthetic?
Love you hope you're drinking water and resting welllllll 😤🫶🤍
MY BELOVED MUTUAL ASKING ME ABOUT MY NICHE INTEREST AND MY FAVORITE AESTHETIC?? SAY NO MORE!
Okay I *started* answering this and then tumblr cancelled on me bc it’s a hating ass bitch.
A lot of these are fall-coded but that’s because fall 🤝🏻 dark academia. I tried to throw in suggestions that can be worn in all seasons, though! I also tried to vary the price points too
Without further ado!
Tumblr media
Novel by ALT fragrances — inspired by whispers in the library from Replica which is one of my all time favorites and I’m STILL salty they discontinued it. I haven’t personally smelled this one but I know so many people who swear it’s almost an exact match!
Notes: top (vanilla) • middle (pepper, cedar wood) • base (tonka bean • woodsy notes)
Indigo by Nest New York — this is one of the best tea scents on the market. I discovered this one last year and honestly it’s a personal favorite. I’ve been through two bottles. Dark and a little sultry but not overpowering and it still has some freshness!
Notes: Italian lemon • orange bergamot • Moroccan tea • Kashmir wood • wild figs
Invite only Amber by Kayali — I associate this fragrance with a snowy night at the library with old Christmas jazz playing in the distance. It’s on my rotation for this winter!
Notes: Amber resin • benzoin • Ceylon cinnamon
Monday by Arielle Shoshanna — ever wanted to smell like a London fog latte? Here’s your perfume!
Notes: bergamot • lavender • lemon zest • black tea • steamed milk • ISO-E super • sandalwood • vanilla • amber
City on Fire by Imaginary Authors — this is THEEEE dark academia perfume. One of its notes is literally labdanum. It doesn’t get more dark academia than that!
Notes: Cade oil • spikenard • cardamom • clearwood • dark berries • labdanum • burnt match
By the Fireplace by Replica — I mean it smells like a bit ol’ crackling fireplace and marshmallow. This smells fucking divine in the cold air in winter (bonus if you have a leather jacket!!). And it’s unisex!
Notes: clove oil • chestnut accord • vanilla accord
Gris Charnel by BDK — another wonderful tea scent. Something about tea scents just screams dark academia!
Notes: fig • black tea • cardamom essence • absolute of iris • bourbon vetiver • sandalwood • tonka bean absolute
L’eau papier by Diptyque — I meannnn it’s a paper-based scent but it smells HEAVENLY. I got stopped like five times wearing this once.
Notes: white musks • mimosa • blonde woods accord • rice steam accord
Coffee break by replica — this is my tried and true. The number one perfume in my collection and my most repurchased. It’s just perfect.
Notes: coffee accord • lavender • milk mousse accord
Honestly look through the entirety of Vilhelm’s perfumery. So many good dark academia scents. My favorites are Dear Polly, Poets of Berlin, and Opus Kore!

I hope the move went well!! Have you gotten settled in??

Gaetano Pesce (8 November 1939 – 3 April 2024)
Moving against the stream of rational, functional modernism in the 1960s and early 70s, Mr. Pesce experimented with materials and production methods to create furniture pieces imbued with political or religious meaning for brands from Cassina to B&B Italia.
Many would go on to become icons of Italian design including the Up5 chair – an innovative vacuum-packed chair designed to resemble a female prisoner – which he designed for B&B Italia precursor C&B.
Pesce moved to New York in 1983 and began to move away from mass production to create "standardised series" in everyday materials like resin, adapting conventional production techniques to create varied and imperfect outcomes.
The result are pieces such as the 1884 Pratt chair, which toe the line between functional design and decorative art, helping to create a new category that would later become collectible design.
Mr. Pesce was born in the Italian city of La Spezia in November 1939, only two months after the start of world war two.
As was common at the time, he trained in both architecture and design, studying first at the University of Venice and later at the Venice Institute of Industrial Design.
Among his architecture projects is the Organic Building in Osaka from 1993, with its plant-covered facade made of orange fiberglass that served as a precursor to today's vegetation-covered green walls.
But Mr. Pesce's most pioneering and well-known work happened in the world of design. In the late 1960s, he became one of the leaders of Italy's Radical Design movement, rejecting modernism's rigid focus on forms dictated by function.
Instead, Pesce focused on the idea that functional objects, much like art, could carry a deeper message.
One of the most famous examples is the controversial Up5 chair from 1969, which manufacturer B&B Italia describes as "the first product of Italian design with a political meaning".

To enter the Milan apartment of the artist and architect Luigi Serafini, one must pass beneath the number “1.61803,” an approximation of the golden ratio, a formula that was discovered by the ancient Greeks and used by both Salvador Dalí and Le Corbusier to express beauty and order — and a fitting introduction to its famously inscrutable resident. In 1981, Serafini, now 75, published “Codex Seraphinianus,” an illustrated encyclopedia of an imagined world. The book’s entries are funny, bizarre and occasionally grotesque (insects double as machines; a couple transform into a crocodile while in flagrante), with accompanying text in a made-up language of runelike symbols. In the decades since its release, semioticians have attempted to decode the writing, and the project has been celebrated by the likes of the writer Italo Calvino and the filmmaker Federico Fellini. [...]For Serafini, each object and piece of art tells a story. An early 19th-century scroll from Japan with beautiful calligraphy, hung next to a wooden dining table painted with a geometric motif, reminds him of childhood trips to his aunt and uncle’s villa in the Italian region of Marche. “This was a gift to them from a monsignor who was the head of the Vatican’s diplomatic office in Japan for many years,” he says. “When you learn how to write, you become conscious that you must write only on paper. The idea that somewhere people could write on a painting — for me, that was ‘The Codex.’ To the right of the scroll, there’s a 2022 painting by Serafini titled “La Langue Secrète des Oiseaux” (“The Secret Language of Birds”), which depicts a goldfinch spitting food into the mouth of a man with a red egg atop his head. The sky is flecked with swooping birds, and yolks run down the walls of a roofless house. “In the Middle Ages, there was this belief that there were messages from God hidden in birdsong,” he says. On a wall in the adjacent main room, an eight-foot-wide nest made of real branches contains a resin-and-plaster chick with a gaping beak. Below it, a human figure with the face of a swallow — made of resin and plaster and dressed in a tailcoat and ruffled silk shirt — is preparing to eat two eggs on a table. Elsewhere, the painted resin bust of a falcon with illuminated blue eyes hovers above the apartment’s second entrance. But this house, as singular as it is, isn’t Serafini’s only self-constructed fantasy world: There’s also La Casa Ontologica, his apartment in a 15th-century palazzo in Rome that’s filled with more of his artworks. As he laments his possible eviction from that property, which he has rented from the Sovereign Order of Malta since 1987 — to make room, he imagines, for “a luxury hotel or something else” — the faint rush of a passing commuter train pulls him back into the moment. “Cities are like trees,” he says. “They change, they grow.” While sitting at his dining table in a wooden folding chair with a cowhide print, he scans the space he’s created — not just a world of wondrous creatures but also maybe one of hope. After all, he says, “Metamorphosis is the sign of life.”

Craftsman by Tabac Original
"Sharp and confident yet charmingly balanced, Tabac Original Craftsman is a spicy-citrus cologne enhanced by accords of aromatic herbs, clean florals and spice. The opening refreshes and invigorates with a bright blend of tart-sweet grapefruit, bergamot and piquant black pepper. Crisply herbal florals of lavender and peppery geranium merge with almond nuances of tonka bean at the heart. A smooth, enveloping base of vetiver, patchouli and supple leather leaves a clean masculine trail that’s perfect for casual wear"

"Fall under the dizzying rush of Initio Psychedelic Love, a powerfully seductive essence that can leave you in an emotional trance. This decadent elixir blends floral, citrus and exotic accords for a deeply bright and satisfying scent that has the power to ensnare that special someone from across the room. Top notes of sparkling bergamot and sweet ylang-ylang work together to form a radiant energy. Following this is a provocative heart of hedione, heliotrope and Bulgarian rose, which walks a fine line between playful romance and immense passion. Completing the alluring perfume are spicy and sensual elements of myrrh and sandalwood, creating a mystifying foundation that intrigues and attracts with ease"
