i missed ravi and may more than life itself it wasn't a great tv finale but it wasn't anywhere near got s8 (i know its not the end of the show but this is my point of comparison okay)

first of all the daddy kink debate going on in the tags is so funny to me as if this show ISNT MADE BY THE SAME PEOPLE THAT MADE FUCKING GLEE! GET A GRIP! there was NEVER going to be a time when this show is dead serious tm. there is always going to be a level of camp garbage to it, but y'all aren't ready for that discussion. actually this point doesn't just apply to the daddy kink thing, but the whole show. this isn't prestige tv. we're not watching succession here, we're watching a prime time soap opera set at a fire house.

idc how unrealistic maddie and chimney being approved as emergency foster placements that quick probably is they're everything to me and i really want more of the hen/karen & maddie/chimney joint family next season! more of that and less cop athena plots pls. (i know i'm harping on it but i really can't stand cop shows and as much as i love angela bassett i want less of athena)

i actually think eddie letting chris go with his grand parents was mature as hell. like i'm sorry dude, you fucked around and found out. i feel bad for him for not having processed his grief but i think allowing knockoff shanon (i forgot her name okay) into his house and into his life at all was a dick move on ALL fronts. i'm glad he and chris have a support system sure wished he used it more instead of putting all his grief on a fucking stranger (i also really hated this plot it was dumb and stupid and really ryan murphy core)

anywho favorite moments of the episode were may showing up, maddie calling herself 'maddie han' and jee walking in holding mara's hand.

i'm not going to rant about how much i hate 90% of the people in the fandom who aren't in the rpc. you can unlock that rant by adding me on disco cause jesus christ the people in the tags deserve jail time.

hottest take i just came up with, i think this show should be moved to a streaming exclusive and make the episodes longer. i honestly think the biggest handicap of this show is the amount of time they have. the seasons are SHORT which is the trend now for prestige tv but like i said this ain't it. an hour of 9/1/1 without commercials would really give the show room to breath cause truly when you watch it with commercials you realize how little run time it actually has. there was one point mid episode where there was ONE SCENE and then it cut to commercial again. like thats nasty.

My first reaction was "Ummmm you vibe check it then read. If you dont like it, stop and try a different one." But I realized y'all might not know how archive level lookup functions work.

Ao3 has a fucking incredible, beefy and effective advanced filtering system. I'm not just clicking on a fandom and scrolling hoping to find something.

My process is malleable and adaptable based on mood but in general looks like this.

Fandom -> ship (if im more flexible I'll pick a character instead)

Now its Filter time! Most often I filter by Tags/Tropes and Rating. If what I'm looking for is a bit more abstract I will pop it into the "Search Within Results" feature.

Next its Exclusion time! You can get results based on what you're looking for. But! You can also exclude things too. You can remove anything you can include. Tags, Ships, Rating, Triggers and much more.

You also have the option to filter and sort by metadata, but its not effective for me at all. I will occasionally give myself a wordcount cap cuz i can and will accidentally keep "one more chapter"ing myself to 5am. But otherwise I do not even look at kudos or hit count.

In addition to a robust filter Ao3 has education materials available for even more advanced commands you can use. I haven't played around with them too much yet (cuz im a multishipper lol) but the one I remember is "otp:true". Its intended to exclude stories with other ships in the main pairing. You can also add "and/or" conditions to tags ("and" is used to ensure all results have both(or more) tags.

If you're not familiar with lookup functions and advanced filters, i would highly recommend just playing around with it. If you get stuck read the tutorials available on Ao3 by Ao3. (FAQs)

Hot tip: the easy select tags, ships etc. are dynamic. If you're seeing a tag that doesnt make sense, hit sort and filter after selecting broader specifications. For example I usually select rating and ship first, sort and filter, then I'll cruise the tags and other specifics cuz now the most common options are more relevant. Ie. if you want to exclude horny stuff, exclude explicit rating first. Those tags detailing sex acts will vanish.

It will take practice, but you are in charge of your own experience. Ao3 is an archive. Its in the name. There is no algorithm to babysit you and mind your squicks and triggers for you. Yes its more legwork but i promise its worth it.

And if in the end, you find a fic that looks great but you start reading it and its not what you wanted, you can just leave. Hit the back button. Find another. Theres no need to keep reading and no need to harass the author.

OK I'm gonna talk about a subject that's kinda touchy but really sincerely needs to be said.

Some people in this fandom i genuinely admire and like, but here's the thing. Some of y'all in this fandom can be a bit insensitive to allot of issues (racism, sexism, abuse, etc) and some still try real hard to act like you don't and it's honestly really f*cking trifling/concerning, cause like y'all act like y'all don't do that, and it really aggravates me.

First onto the problem with racism this fandom has. Y'all have no qualms going on and on about the evident whitewashing the show does to it's characters of colour at times like what they did to rena's model, etc(trust me i feel the same way at times but saying that mari is white bc she doesn't wear chinese garb etc is really concerning and feels really weird when white fans try to say this bc not allot of ppl who come from different cultures outward go and dress in their ethnic garb at home in all places (and honestly, whenever iusuallysee art of this it's fine but at times it comesoff a bit fetishizy(especially whenever someonetries to draw mari in diferent clothes and all they do is a "certain" style. and it's concerning that y'all have the opposite argument about sabine (even though i also i have qualms about that too.) but then getting angry when poc try to tell y'all to stop drawing characters a certain way (whitewashing (how funny how y'all go on about this and then do it in art or other media by lightening skin colour or changing features) or darkening the skin on a villain alligned character instead of trying to learn from those criticisms is in and of itself, a whole hypocritical mess bc y'all try to make some valid crits of the show but it all goes down the drain when y'all turn around and do this witchhunting/whitewashing bs. Then there's the fact that y'all salters almost always make alya the villain and chloe a support in a huge amount of saltfics without even seeing what kinds of connotations could arise from that. Like do you not see the problem in twisting the main character's best friend who actually has a personality of her own into the villain when she's black and making the lighter skinned bully the hero. At all.

Next onto the sexism (funny thing is its funny how both sides play into this). First we have how the fandom treats Marinette and Adrien. When mishaps happen to Mari, the salty part of the fandom tends to jump up and say that either her classmates are always laughing at her and more complaints that don't make any sense because if y'all have actually watched some parts of the show even, any scene when marinette has a mishap happen to her in front of classmates you'd see they're not laughing at her, but with her. (and you'd think that the nyc special would show y'all that the wouldn't laugh at her accidents or problems if she's in genuine distress.) Then we have the minor villains Felix and Lila with how the fandom still holds onto this merit that canon felix is a good person underneath a cold persona (now this could've been truefor pv!felix or fanon felix and i don't hate him, it actually the opposite, i kinda want to see what other moties the character has in store for us.) what i don't like is how some parts of the fandom put him on a better merit than lila when we don't even know his full character just as yet while we've already gotten to know how shady of a person lila is.

now finally onto the abuse aspect. i saved this one for last bc this is a touchy subject for me at times, in any aspects i can name bc here's the thing, this fandom loves to either: make claims that a certain character (adrien) is not facing any sort of abuse bc he's a guy or that he shouldn't be taking it or he should stand up for it (or worse saying he deserves it and saying that gabriel/lila should continue with it?! looking at 4 or more certain salters who have been getting on my last f-ing nerve with that) and i'm just like please stop and think about it for a second. And i don't want to hear the "it's a tv show" angle which i've heard way too many damn times bc If you were in a situation like that and it starts to escalate, how would you feel if someone online was making fun of your plight online over an over like a damn broken record player hmm? Cause i relate to adrien on a few aspects of his life and seeing y'all repeat the same cold takes about how he could just leave, or how chat blanc can't happen bc gabriel isn't like that is frankly, all too worrying bc i have been in that place and so have many others and seeing y'all say that gabe/lila/nathalie are all morally better bc of certain struggles they face is another hypocritical thing that some of y'all salters need to address bc y'all would rather say these people behave better than an abused kid.

Who the heck are you?

I am a chaotic Ravenclaw writer with some huge Hufflepuff mom friend energy and a lot of pterodactyl noises thrown into the mix. Questioning bisexual who uses she/her pronouns but gender is irrelevant so they/them is fine too. Anyway y'all probably don't care about that stuff, you just want to see my work, but that's me in case you were wondering.

What can you expect from this blog?

Mostly "professional" stuff relating to my main project, but I'll probably also sprinkle in some short stories, poetry, whatever strikes my fancy. Oh, and writing shitposts. Sorry.

What is this WIP you keep mentioning?

My main pet project since August 28th, 2017 has been a low fantasy novel known only by its joke name, Gods Mess Shit Up. Despite it being almost 2 years old, I'm still drafting Chapter 1 right now... but that's okay because I'm finally at a point where I trust the characters enough to let them drive the story. (I've tried to draft it twice before and came across plot holes or something similar that I had to fix first. Now we're golden.)

The premise of GMSU is hard for me to describe without going on an hour-long rant, so skip to the tl;dr if you dont want to read. (I promise I'll have a master post later!)

So basically the world is influenced by seven gods based on universal human concepts (e.g. Fate, Time, Death) whose power is amplified by relics from long ago. Early on in history, the six relics were each attuned to a specific god and then broken and scattered throughout six nations. They can only be touched by human hands and, when reunited, can attune to a different god, thereby increasing their influence on the human world. The problem is, there are seven gods and six relics, meaning the youngest of the gods gets a little bitchy about not being represented and gathers followers to reunite the relics. Meanwhile the other gods are like "no you're too chaotic to have one" and recruit the protagonists to stop them. Got all that? No? I don't blame you.

Tl;dr, ripoff Loki wants some ripoff Infinity Stones to be cooler and will possess, murder, and cheat their way into getting them. Contains some very gay antics, a sassy brOTP, commentary on how YA romance is annoyingly possessive/abusive sometimes, cinnamon rolls, subtle and not-so-subtle badasses, and a paragon baker's son who has no idea what he's doing. Fun times.

LIFE IS STRANGE 2 EPISODE 3

on one hand take all my rants with a grain of salt because i'm only partially serious in my delivery but i very much do hold those opinions. specifically the ones about social media and this tumblr vs everyone else bullshit i keep seeing. you are not immune to algorithms, but many of you clearly are incapable of using them and it shows. this is the future now, we have to learn how to use these tools if we want to have positive experiences using sites and apps that primarily utilize them. either get over it and learn or get over it and stop bitching about that when the real issues aren't even the algorithms themselves. that is a neutral force and this fear of curated content is so paranoid. like the only times i see shit i dont wanna see on tiktok or youtube is if i go looking for shit i wouldn't usually have looked up or hit tags on out of curiosity and it was quickly remedied after a week of doing my normal thing and simply hitting the "i dont want to see this" button. it works on reddit too.

the only site i've really had the bad experiences y'all talk about regarding other apps is tumblr. like, for example, whenever someone i follow starts posting stuff i don't like meaning i can't even say "don't show me that", i have to manually put tags into the blocklist or straight up unfollow people i like because i cant just hit a button that makes it so i never have to see that shit again. like it even goes as far as to ask what you didn't like so to further help your algorithm. tumblr just shows you shit and makes users do everything themselves making the UI pretty shitty if you asked me.

i love tumblr and im not leaving, but i will complain and refuse to act like it's somehow better or even a good site. y'all are just mad because you don't wanna learn how to use another app like you had to learn tumblr and you expect everything to be handed to you with minimal effort. you go on and on about how algorithms just give you content but you don't actually learn to work with it to get what you want. then you complain. because you don't know how to use the app. and that's fine. but it's still annoying as fuck when i read your posts and know for a fact your bad experience was your own fault for not learning how to use the damn app properly while simultaneously shitting on them for not knowing how to have a fulfilling experience on tumblr.

Another director's commentary, when you have time: john and davesprite and jadefrom the very start of tlc, including "is that yourarm?" And up to the accidental bucket death.

I realized the section you requested is like 150 pages so I’m gonna have to comment on the other bits later. But we’ll do the John, Jade, and Davesprite scene for now. It got REAL long, though, so it’s under a cut.

This scene witnessed the birth of OUR VERY FIRST MEME.So I hung out and watched Gill draw these panels, which soon became a bit of a tradition. On page 20 she was trying to recreate the battleship room from a different angle and was wrangling some sort of weird tchotchke in the corner until I said, “Hey, why don’t you just make Davesprite’s wings bigger and cover it up?” and from that point on, whenever Gill was struggling with a panel, no matter who was in it, I would scream “MAKE HIS WINGS BIGGER” from the other room.On page 22 the gif maker was being weird so we decided he’d just… vibrate faster when agitated. It’s fine. It’s all fine.

Man going through these pages is like whoah the style sure changed, hasn’t it? You don’t really notice until you look at the earlier stuff.

Now, a bit of this conversation was actually betad by skiba, who is going by who knows what username now. Page 25 is the last arm sighting because would you want to keep hiding arms in panels? I think not.

The “I’m not a joke” thing was something I wanted to bring up, because I made a post a while ago saying that the stuff scattered around the kids’ houses sometimes seems to connect to their views of themselves, and while Dave is surrounded by puppets and feels like his hands are tied, John is surrounded by clowns, and I think he feels like he’s the “joke” of the friendgroup, since he tends to get told what to do or screw around and mess things up. You see this self-perception when he’s criticizing John Cusack on his 15th birthday. So this was a spot where he finally talks about it outright as he’s taking some initiative. He’s accomplished something, maybe by falling ass-backwards into a power, but then he used it. In canon he mostly does what he’s told with the retcon ability, but John does make some actual decisions about what to change and what actions to take here, because I thought it was important for him to counter that overly Breathy ‘getting pushed around by others’ routine he was chafing under. Page 26 y'all, and I’m setting the fucking precedent that Prospit kids get character development in this damn adventure.

Speaking of which, enter Jade. I remember making a tag comment that 'the most important character in Homestuck is here everyone’ which was a joke because Gamzee is in the fridge. But I was looking forward to this. Page 31 is fun because the massive :( is the standard initial response to Grimdark Jade. The characters and fandom both were like… horrified by her on day one but as soon as she opens her mouth she’s not really scary anymore, so John is already Done with this, and in about two pages Davesprite’s over it and is arguing with her over vocabulary. I’m sorry, Jade. You’re just not that good at being a villain.

I think I complained about this back when we were putting it up, but the lack of dialog tags means I have to lean on the dialog itself to convey how it’s said. Which, you know, is suggested in good writing in general, but sometimes it’s hard, guys. So I intended the “dont you like the new me?” to be less gloating and more have an edge of “you fuckers lived with me for 3 years and could never be damned to notice”. You may have noticed the following monologue is adapted off dark Willow’s little spiel. (I was raised on Buffy, I’m sorry. The whole ‘what do you want to do tomorrow’ comes from there too.) If she hadn’t been interrupted she would have just ranted at them for a while longer, she’s noticeably reluctant to draw blood herself.

Gill made the executive decision to make the sound effect of Jade being knocked out 'SASSACRUSHED’ but I was kinda hoping it would be 'SLAM’ so that you could have them arguing about the use of the word slammer and then smash cut into that being a sound effect. Alas. We can’t win everything.

I remember back then we checked out our new followers and I went “hey I think we just picked up a jade/davesprite person who is probably here because they actually spoke to each other and that’s the best they’re gonna get” and Gill went “well then I will have him HOLDING HER BODY as a reward to our like, third follower or whatever” and I went Gill I’ll fucking kill you so Jade goes smack down on the fucking carpet. That’s equality.

JOHN: i guess we should put her somewhere safe, or make sure that she doesn’t wake up any time soon.

rant about something you’re passionate about - books, movies, music, etc. Feeling dank for weeks so i kind of forget how “passionate” feels like, but looking back at the photos and videos i got when i was traveling japan, i really love that place. Japanese culture is quite different from hong kong, though both are asian and we do have similarities, but the city lights, neon lights, shops, hustle and bustle are somehow different from what i experience in hk. Maybe it’s just bc I'm visiting as a tourist, but people there are very welcoming, and nice. Maybe just being “professional” as a salesperson, but they do make sure you feel comfortable and safe in their country. My friend lost their cap at mister donut, where we had breakfast every morning, and the day after when we got back, they gave us right back. In hk the cap for sure would be gone. Shinjuku, where i was staying, has a lot of bars and places for drinking, they tend to drink quite heavily there even on weekdays. But anyways, when I first got up the railway station and saw the view it was so surreal. It still doesn’t feel real. I couldn't believe I could make it after so many hard times in life and got to see and visit a place that i like so much.
