The lyrics are just SO GOOD. Like, I am awe of how Jay manages to one up himself over and over again. This song is maybe the most pivotal one as far as Odysseus’s character arc is concerned and he fucking CRUSHED IT.

UGH. I will never get enough of this musical, I s2g. Jay does such an amazing job of portraying Odysseus’s emotions and mental state throughout. By the time we get to 600 Strike, it’s fucking heartbreaking. Odysseus has tried SO HARD for SO LONG to be a good person. He never wanted any of this! He never wanted to be ruthless! But over and over and over again he is just doomed by the gods narrative.

UUUGH. It makes No Longer You (probs my fave song of the musical) EVEN BETTER because yeah, “I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it’s no longer you.”

The gods have forced Odysseus time and time again to be ruthless. He has fought for twenty years to retain some semblance of his innate desire for mercy only to watch it ripped away from him, piece by devastating piece.

I utterly adore the way we see him broken down until the ONLY thing he has left for any chance at happiness or normalcy is making it home to his wife and son.

He starts out this whole journey with the goal of getting himself AND his crew home only to watch them die in increasingly horrific ways because of the impossible situations they keep getting forced into.

I feel like Oddyseus’s first major breakdown happens in The Underworld. That’s where it finally all starts to be too fucking much. Where he hits his limit. Just the “All I hear are screams, every time I dare to close my eyes. I no longer dream, only nightmares of those who've died.”

And then the utterly gut wrenching scene with his mom. ( ༎ຶ⌑༎ຶ)

I feel like up to this point, yeah he’s concerned about what’s going on back at home, but this is the first time he’s straight up confronted with the fact things are changing there and there’s NOTHING he can do about it. His absolute worst fear has come true. He lost someone he loved forever because he couldn’t make it home.

How did she die? Odysseus doesn’t know. She could have died peacefully of old age or been slaughtered. Either way he wasn’t there to comfort her or protect her. She died not knowing if he would ever made it home. Even in death, she’s stuck forever wondering what happened to him and wishing she could see him again.

HE IS RIGHT THERE and she will never know because he was too late.

Like logically he knows time is passing in Ithaca too, but up to this point I feel like Ithaca is more of a concept to him than a reality. His last memories of his home are of his wife and infant son from over a decade ago. Obviously they’ve aged too, but he hasn’t seen the effects of the passage of time on them. He doesn’t know what’s become of them or his country without its king.

It makes so much sense that this is when he finally starts to consider ruthlessness over mercy. Especially after Tiresias implies he will never make it home. Like obvs we know he will and that Tiresias just means he won’t be the same person when he does, but Odysseus doesn’t know that.

Regardless, Tiresias is right. The only way Odysseus will ever make it home is to cut away at everything that makes him who he is. His morality, his desire for mercy, his loyalty to his crew, his friends...

His friends who trust him, only for him to keep leading them to horrific deaths time and time again by clinging to his desire for mercy.

God, and then there’s Mutiny. This whole time Eurylochus has been begging Odysseus to focus on the needs of the few instead of the many, to “cut their losses.” And now Odysseus finally does by sacrificing six men and Eurylochus cannot fucking believe it, even after trying to convince him to do this EXACT same thing back in Puppeteer.

I think Eurylochus ultimately wants Odysseus to keep leading them, even when he doesn’t agree with his decisions, because he doesn’t trust himself to make to put the lives of everyone else first. He relies so much on Odysseus as his moral compass and now that compass has been shattered into a million pieces.

This is not his captain. This IS NOT his friend. This is also the moment Eurylochus realizes Odysseus intends to get home by any means necessary and that fucking terrifies him.

He could always count on Odysseus to keep the safety of the crew first and foremost, to be their pillar of strength in the face of adversity, but now? Now he can’t.

Besides, he’s finally convinced himself that they’ll never make it home, so why should they keep fighting? Why not just try and live out the rest of their lives in peace? Why invite more suffering and pain into their lives?

Then comes Thunder Bringer, where Eurylochus’s biggest fear is realized. Odysseus openly admits he will do whatever it takes to make it home to his wife and son.

At this point, Odysseus is desperately trying to justify all of the horrors and loss they’ve been through. Hundreds of men who trusted him have died because of him. He believes he’s led them astray over and over again.

But if he doesn’t make it home, what was the point of all of this? Does he give up now for the sake of his remaining crew, or does he honor the sacrifice of those they’ve lost by finally making it home? Every single one of them has died in their attempts to get home. How can he sleep at night if he gives up on getting there now? It would mean they all died for absolutely nothing.

And like, it’s a fucked up decision but I think it’s fair to say Odysseus is running on pure PTSD and vibes at this point. He is literally staring ZEUS in the face. Zeus who pretty much made him kill a defenseless child “for the greater good.” Zeus who is asking him to make another impossible choice.

His remaining crew has already admitted they’ve given up on getting home, but Odysseus hasn’t. If no one makes it back, how will the family and friends they’ve left behind ever find closure? They’ll spend the rest of their days living and dead waiting for them to come home like his mother has. They’ll descend into the underworld never knowing what happened to them and hoping against hope that they’ll still see them again.

Hope is such a powerful thing, but it can also be devastating. Isn’t it kinder to let them know what happened than to let them die, trapped warring with grief and hope forever? Because not knowing, while it can give them hope, it’s a false hope at this point. It’s not real.

Isn’t it crueler to leave them scanning the horizon for the rest of their lives, looking for ships that will never come? Isn’t it crueler to force thousands upon thousands of voices to join his mother’s in the underworld?

Isn’t it kinder to give them closure? To let them finally be able to fully grieve?

The least he can do is tell their loved ones what happened to them, isn’t it?

And now, twenty years later, he’s finally within sight of Ithaca. Now he can justify all of his decisions, all of the pain, all of the heartache. He’s can do the one good thing left to him after all these years.

So of course that’s when Poseidon strikes in a final act of devastating cruelty. All because Odysseus blinded rather than outright killed his son. His son who planned to kill and eat him and every single one of his 600 crew members.

It’s simultaneously so cathartic and heartbreaking when Odysseus first brings the trident down on Poseidon. Especially after pleading with him one last time to stop this never ending cycle of violence and pain.

But Poseidon refuses to stop. He’s more concerned about his pride and his reputation than in admitting he’s taken things too far. This so-called god has the nerve to have killed almost every man in his crew and then tell Odysseus he hasn’t suffered enough. He’s already paid for his actions with the blood of hundreds of men. What debt could he possibly have left to pay?

Tbh I would not have blamed Odysseus for torturing Poseidon for the rest of his days. And, if he chose ruthlessness over mercy, that’s what he would have done. Poseidon would’ve gotten exactly what he wanted. Lol, just not like this.

But no. Even in the midst of all of this, of getting to hear this murderer, this god cry out and beg for the mercy he denied him so many times, Odysseus stops. Poseidon finally knows what it’s like to feel helpless and to feel unending pain.

Odysseus has pled with the gods to be merciful for over twenty years now. Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Calypso, Circe… He’s begged them time and time again to see there are other ways than ruthlessness. He managed to get through to Circe, since she alone viscerally understood the pain and loss he’d been through. And now all the rest of them finally understand too.

Athena goes to Zeus on his behalf to convince him and a whole host of other gods to give Odysseus another chance. Calypso lets him leave her island. Zeus realizes the folly of his own pride when he nearly kills his own daughter. Poseidon agrees to call off the storm.

It’s such a fascinating story and I utterly adore Jay’s interpretation of it. Mercy is what ultimately gets Odysseus home, even if he had to be ruthless to get it.

AND AND AND all the callbacks in the songs, the bastardization of moments of joy. The reclamation of moments of horror!!! T^T

Ok first things first i gotta get it off my chest but I s2g one thing I hate the most is when male characters spend days, months, years chasing after a girl that doesn't like them, only for the girl to eventually be like "yk what you're not that bad, you changed now" so they start dating. And this-

-THIS small scene reminds me of that. (Tbh I don't think they'd end up together... I viewed this scene as Mahoro being shocked that Arajin (a major coward) stood up to save her in any way. But then I remembered the trope so I was like "ok lets hope its not heading that way lol". Side note, I liked Mahoro this episode idc 👑

Next thing... Get someone who can support and adore you the same way Matakara adores Arajin because dude?!?!

small habits / tidbits / skills / traits eden developed through various interactions ( part 1/? ) :

- learns to speed-read / skimming over long text due to al-haitham's ( @apocryphis ) influence. he reads so fast that eden took a few tips from him on how to do that and over time, she acquired the skill to speed-read things and to pick out important bits of a long text by skimming quickly. she even surprised the astral express crew with it. of course, she's nowhere near his level but she is getting better.

- learns to make quick lunch. nothing fancy. mostly something easy to make like wraps or sandwiches because the doctor ( @unboundtravels ) cannot cook for the life of him. later on, she learned how to make mini muffins just bc she likes to have something sweet to snack on and asking to stop by a cafe during an important mission would earn her a look.

- becomes better at stealth because of how often she's trying to sneak into meropide and the duke's ( @avaere ) office without being captured. she had learned to be swift in her approach, makes less noises when moving about and having lighter footsteps. despite the fact that she had gotten better at it, to this day she still couldn't escape his sharp senses and he'd catch her every single time.

- has a habit of muttering something in foreign language ( gallifreyan ) when she's deep in thoughts. this is done unconsciously most of the time as the tenth doctor ( @tempestforged ) taught her a few things. it's also a proof of their resonance after she received his regeneration energy so it echoes in her mind and she does it without knowing. she sometimes hums a foreign song she isn't aware she knows of.

- collects small plants and keeps them in her room on the astral express ( she has a room i s2g i will die on this hill. ) mostly succulents and plants that aren't too high maintenance bc they remind her of her space tree ( @crimsontroupe ). she's particularly fond of cotyledon tomentosa because they look like little paws. paws + plants are like the combination of the two of them in one. she adores them.

Top 10 Heartstopper Moments (including books, if you've read them)

Oh lorddddddd you’re really out here asking the hard questions huh. Ok. I’m gonna go from the show because while I have read the books it was only once last fall and at this point the show is ingrained in my brain so it’s easier to reference. Also these aren’t really in order of importance because I love all of them. A lot.

1. The first kiss scene!! Omg the tension, the stares, the pinky touches, the toe scooch, Charlie being SO BRAVE, jesus every single thing was so top tier and SO. WELL. ACTED. Insane. It’s insane!! I literally can’t sit still while watching it. Even the music placement was perfect. And the animations of course.

2. The kiss/convo/hug in Charlie’s bedroom This was one of the scenes that won Kit his Emmy I s2g. The actual kiss (hands!! tippytoes!!), the confusion after, Charlie’s reassuring look and comforting hug, all of it was, again, so well acted and emotional and uhhhhh I can’t with these two!!!

3. Nick’s speech to Charlie in the hallway Quite possibly the most perfect romantic declaration of feelings speech in any show or movie maybe ever??? And I love the parallel from earlier; instead of Nick making a move to stop the nervous stream of consciousness chatter from Charlie, it’s Charlie reassuring Nick and kissing him to stop Nick’s nervous babbling. Just shows how perfect these two are for each other 🥰

4. The photobooth scene They’re just soooo cuuutteeee and the pictures are ADORABLE; Charlie finally getting the date he’s always wanted is so important and honestly the whole beach day is precious.

5. Tara and Darcy’s kiss (and Nick’s reaction) This one hits me right in the feels. There’s so much joy and love and happiness in this, with the perfect beat drop and the rainbow animation. And Nick’s face!!! He wants what they have!! He knows he can get it with Charlie!! It’s a fantastic moment for Tara and Darcy and a wonderful motivator for Nick in terms of plot progression.

6. The bowling alley/arcade party This one might be cheating cause it has 4 of my fav moments but we’ll lump them all together anyway. First, the shot of Nick smiling at Charlie during bowling. Boy is literally the definition of heart eyes. Then, the hug. Charlie’s face goes from sad to happy so perfectly and the animations are lovely. Then there’s the gift giving and “that was just one of my favorite days ever” 😭😭 Finally there’s the kiss. So soft and sweet and fluffy. THEY MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS.

7. Charlie running after Nick/the kiss in the rain Charlie literally being like “hi, *cheesy line*, *kiss*, okay bye!!! 😄” and running off. I love him so much!! It’s a perfect capture of butterflies and being impulsively in love, and I have been OBSESSED with What’s It Gonna Be since I first watched it. Actually I’ve been obsessed with the whole soundtrack lbr haha.

8. Nick’s talk with Imogene in the park Another Emmy winning moment. Kit played it SO. WELL. It’s not really a coming out, per say, but to have him phrase how he’s been feeling in a way that Imogene can also identify with in terms of not really fitting in with their group of friends anymore is GENIUS. Alice you amazing writer you.

9. Nick’s coming out scene We knew this one was gonna be on here. God it makes me cry every time. IMPECCABLE acting from both Kit and Olivia and so so important to a lot of people out there, including my bisexual self.

10. The first hug The “you look so cuddly like that” and subsequent hug at Charlie’s house KILLLLL MEEEEEEE. I’m a sucker for hugs anyway so to have it be so soft and slightly awkward followed by Tori’s “I don’t think he’s straight” is PERFECTION. Sheer and utter perfection.

Bonus 11. Handholding/movie theater moments Yes Ep 7 was ROUGH but the “Char” moment, Nick’s face (again!) as he stares at Charlie with heart eyes, and all the pinky and hand holding during the movie was a nice bright spot. My husband Nick (yes Nick, I know lol) and I call each other dork all the time so Charlie leaning up and whispering “you’re a dork” with a giant grin on his face was extra special for me. Also the gay nerd and rugby lad teasing. They’re such good friends and that’s another reason I love them as a couple. They genuinely like each other and find comfort in each other’s company.

Oh jesus I didn’t mention the snow day, or the rugby training montage (Charlie’s little giggle and Nick’s flushed cheeks get me every time), Charlie’s little dance after getting asked on a date, the milkshake cafe, Nick and Tara’s friendship, Tori hugging Charlie, Tori just in general with her older sister magic and snarky comments, running up the stairs at the party, Nick punching Harry, Nick telling Charlie he told Tara and Darcy about them and Charlie’s utter joy at hearing that, the wanting to hold hands on the couch, Nick’s “what? what’s up?”, or about a bajillon other things that make this show my favorite of all time. Seriously how can I pick 10 (or 11 lol) moments??!!!! Everything about this show - writing, acting, music, cinematography, the animations, guh everything is just toooo perfect.

Some things of note about The Mighty Extra LN (that probably wont impact the manhwa so i can speak about it): 

-Helene is in possession of the Dragon's Heart Fragment necklace and watched Lyla take it from the vault. It kind of disappeared from the story, but she was wearing it on her person and hid it away in a pocket dimension when Paris came looking for it. She then bargained with him for it, telling him she'll give him the necklace if he kills her three siblings (Odelia, Tyrone and Lyla). 

-The owner of the Dragon's Heart Fragment was a dragon who gave up its heart to its beloved and had the pieces split: most of the pieces vanished somehow but Helene has one of them. This necklace gets forgotten about and it’s only purpose was to be a bargaining chip. Tbf, the manhwa adds an implication it can increase a dragon’s power so maybe in the manhwa it will serve another use.

-I also wouldn't be surprised if all the red accessories Helene is wearing in her hair/on her choker is the Dragon's Heart constantly put into different forms to hint she's always had it on her or something. I have no proof of this but i HAVE noticed she's constantly changing out accessories while keeping her red color scheme + clothes so idk

-I will never get over baby Helene referring to baby Lyla as a cotton ball. That is the cutest fucking thing and I adore her doing that

-Helene getting drunk is a scene I need to see. Never thought I’d say this of a fave but god do I need to see this. 

-Fian is really, REALLY annoying in this take. Manhwa him might be kind of one-note in personality but he's not as bad as his light novel counterpart. Out of 187 chapters, it feels like 120 of them are dedicated to Fian either saying he loves Lyla or is annoyed at her for XYZ problem. It's obnoxious and boring and I hate light novel Fian and wish the story purely revolved around Lyla, Paris and Helene because it would have been way better off if it did :<

-Sienna has two siblings, Lyla's aunt and uncle, who help her against other mermaids (Water dragons? but not Kylon dragons? i genuinely don't know and don't get it) who coveted Lyla bc of her powers

-Paris is genuinely one of the best characters in the light novel. He's unhinged and you really understand why Lyla is spooked by him in the manhwa, but tbh he's still somehow one of the funniest and most chill characters around. And if not for Helene still being the best character in the story, he would actually be my favorite

-On that note, Paris and Lyla share a much deeper relationship in the light novel than in the manhwa, with Paris helping her get close to Fian and Lyla begrudgingly getting along with him (and i kind of got big brother vibes from him toward her and little sister vibes from her to him and waaaaaaah i liked them getting along because it showed a lot of interesting depth to both of them every time they were given a chance to talk)

-Paris taking a dragon-shaped stone and breaking it in half to give to Helene before the banquet was such a cute scene. The fact it's that stone that ends up saving Helene and Lyla later on by summoning him was such good set-up. And the fact it's so far been omitted from the story makes me D: because it means when/if the coup does happen, we're not going to get that lead up into the joke that Paris and Helene are having a love affair which is awwwwwww to me

-there is a whole lot of characters in the light novel. I s2g the author named every character in existence from background maids to background knights to randos off the street. i gave up keeping track of them all except when i recognized them being mentioned in the manhwa (Aka the Duke of the North Lyla supposedly went to the academy with and was gifted a prize from does show up)

Kumoricon 2023 recap for myself just because (yes I know it’s been a week now):

Barely finished my Imelda cosplay in time (like think the day of) which felt wild because I spent so much goddamn time on it and truly thought I was going to finish it earlier 😭

This was the first time I can remember that I’ve ever had a cosplay where I was told I looked beautiful? Like I’ve gotten “Oh you’re adorable!” a lot but I got a few “You look beautiful” and that’s just wild

Like a lot of people didn’t know what my cosplay was and I still got compliments, which never happens if they don’t know what my cosplay is. So that’s wild!

Also people were just super nice??? And that was nice

I am frustrated with myself though because I got superglue on the middle of the dress coat towards the end of the day (a fellow ballroom staff person stepped on my skirt when I went to the bathroom and I tried to quick fix it… superglue never works for me I s2g it doesn’t matter how long I hold the thing on for) Also the escalator scratched a big ol scratch in my heels which sucks but like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was so worn down by ballroom staff stuff??? Which feels weird because a lot of it was not physical (for me) but I still got tired? Which feels lame on my part because like I know I helped in ways but I feel like I wasn’t helpful enough 🫠 but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I helped by having a baby look at a picture of a cat on my phone lol)

I absolutely could not wear my heels on day two oh my GOD I forgot how much my Handler/Sophie Bikes shoes hurt. I wore flats p much all day on day two which doesn’t fit the cosplay but listen I am old and a lot of those floors are cement and terrible in the convention center

People were also very nice about my Sylvia cosplay (but also seemed nervous to interact with me? lol)

I’m annoyed with myself because I didn’t look at the schedule at ALL and I ended up not planning my time well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the only two panels I wanted to go to clashed with work/having to be a responsible adult and take care of my kitty 😭 and look obviously Bijou above me having a silly time at a con but also man what a bummer. Next year gotta actually take a look at the schedule and plan. (Though tbh I’m annoyed that the panels I wanted to go to were all in the evening like wtf man who starts a panel at 5:30PM)

Having my bike this year was a godsend oh my GOD it was so nice to be able to bike to the convention center and back most of the weekend 🚲 like obviously I couldn’t bike in my Imelda cosplay but the rest of the weekend? Easy to bike back and forth. So extremely helpful. I’m sure it was very funny to see me in a SpyXFamily cosplay biking to the convention center (a parking guy said he liked my hat as I biked by lol)

Wore my Yuuri Katsuki cosplay for the last day of con which always makes me laugh because I just look like… a kind of sloppy guy but clearly SOMETHING is going on because it’s very obvious I’m wearing a wig 😆 but holy heck I swear this is the most recognition I’ve gotten for my Yuuri cosplay ever???

I spent way more at con than I was expecting? But then again I did buy two manga which definitely upped my “money spent at con” amount and I had a little bit of money saved up specifically for con. Also I’m so obsessed with the fact that more and more cons/markets are selling wax melts???? I use wax melts a lot and I got some from Mizu Crafts that smell SO GOOD. I’ve been melting the Kiss Kiss Fall in Love one and my apartment smells like a bouquet of roses it’s so nice (also if they’re on tumblr and see this for some reason I’m so sorry I was kind of a mess and knocked something over I was really tired and I know you were nice about it but I still felt bad)

Right after con I had to go home and get ready for a murder mystery dinner party wedding reception for my cousin and proceeded to drink too much wine and eat really good food (I’m sure the exhaustion did not help)

I didn’t catch covid but oof I think I did get some con crud for sure. I would also say it was probably the combo of not sleeping enough/not eating well/wearing bad support and carrying stuff all weekend but oh my god my body has been recuperating this week. All I did on Thursday was play video games and yesterday I cleaned my apartment and wow wow wow did I need that. (Though playing video games all day Thursday did not help my sore back lol)

I’m probably going to move out of this apartment this year because reasons but like… god it’s so convenient to be so close to the convention center. (And no way will I be able to afford a place in such a good location if I move but here we are). It’s just like… I wish I was rich so I didn’t have to worry about my housing stuff all the time.

But yeah! That was con. I’m still tired but that’s more because last night I went to bed after midnight and still woke up at 7:30AM lol

tbh the fanon pregnancy is pretty much like human preggers with little to no difference, but I know some? fics have “keep fucking to grow that baby”, using transfluid (sperm) as a building block for babies?

There’s multiple ways more cybertronians come into existence, depending on the continuity. But to my knowledge the more human pregnancy one is purely fanon.

as for the baby swordsmachine thing it was a combination between agony and tundra :) which is why theyre pink n purple. it came abt from a conversation with my friend Dreamy who had the idea for beby swordsmachine. the concept strays much further from how it works in humans though... robot baby is kinda... either a copy of one or a combination of two or more machines and their functions n programs (however it gets a bit more confusing the more you add to the mix OR if the machines are so different that theyd seem almost incompatible).

baby starts out kind of less like a baby and more like a chip (probably wrong term but just roll with it man). its consciousness starts out there, and to actually give it a body machine parents will have to scrap together parts and pieces to build a body, usually based on its own blueprints and its partners blueprints. sometimes these dont mesh well, but other times it works out alright :) s2g though a good chunk of scrap baby construction is going against the blueprint so it just kind of Slightly resembles the parent.

similar to how humans grow, USUALLY once they get their first bodies its rather small. its a temporary body, and will be changed to suit the needs as time passes. until it does get a body though, typically the chip will be held onto, stored somewhere inside the body. it can really be stored anywhere but its easier to keep track of something if its attached to you.

there doesnt really have to be sex involved with it it can just. happen. its got a lot of potential for weirdness + slightly more in depth discussion abt why shit like this happens in the first place

9 People You Want to Get to Know Better

I was tagged a hot minute ago by @ valentinaonthemoon and have been meaning to do this for ages!

Last Song: There Will be Sun from Groundhog Day: The Musical. The music for that show is SO FUCKING GOOD. I was trying to decide on a oneshot fic title and spent like 20 years looking through all my music before finally settling on this one. Wanna give honorable mentions to Daisies by Black Gryph0n & Baasik and Deal Maker by Tyto-Cat because I have been listening incessantly to both over the past few days. So fucking good!

Favorite Color: Teal! Though I also have a soft spot for rose gold.

Last film/show: Most recently have been rewatching Community. God, that show is such a fucking treat. Watched this compilation of best Dean moments earlier today too and almost injured myself by laughing. Also, shoutout to Jim Rash as a fellow, exceedingly rare native Charlottean! I've also been making my husband watch Gravity Falls after somebody corrupted me. I s2g that show just keeps randomly resurfacing in the back of my head like some kind of hypnotic cryptid. I didn't hyperfixate as hard as my friend did on it, but damn if I don't keep hearing its siren song when I least expect it... Rewatching it is def a delight tho. I'm seeing now why folks are so enthralled by the writing for it, now that I'm more aware of the foreshadowing along the way! Also omggg we're about to rewatch Summerween which I absolutely adored the first time!

Last Book: *immediately proceeds to forget everything they have ever read* Umm... I've mostly been reading fanfic as of late. But the most recent book I started was Beneath the Surface: Killer Whales, SeaWorld, and the Truth Behind Blackfish by John Hargrove. LPOTL did an episode on SeaWorld a few weeks ago and mentioned it, so I picked it up. As for the last book I finished... I think it was Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. Really enjoyed it and have the 2nd one near the top of my fucking mountain of a TBR pile... I lost my mind and bought way too many books over the past few months...

Relationship status: Married for almost 5 years now! We were extremely lucky to get married right before Covid hit. So many of our friends had to cancel their weddings because of it. My anniversary is coming up next month! But I've been with my husband for just a few weeks shy of 11 years now!

Current Obsession(s): Hazbin Hotel. Hit me out of nowhere like a fucking sniper bullet. All because Spotify was like "hey, you like musicals, here's a few new songs for your daylist!" I knew literally nothing going into it except that the songs were catchy af and, well, I'm in too deep now... Spotify got me... Interview with the Vampire. This multi-fandom blog is actually a Assad Zaman appreciation blog in (a terrible and super obvious) disguise... Hands down one of the best shows I have ever watched. I am straight up feral over it. It is simultaneously hysterical and absolutely fucking devastating. Everyone involved in it is so passionate about the work too and it shows! I have written fucking essays on here about season 2. I can guarantee you when Season 3 drops, I am going to be even worse. I will never fucking emotionally recover from 2.05 or 2.07 BECAUSE I DO NOT WANT TO. Phantom of the Opera. I have been obsessed with POTO for...fuck...almost 20 years now? (jfc i am old) I saw the 2004 Movie back in high school orchestra, and I can still remember the instant I felt the hyperfixation take root. Masquerade. I wore the DVD out, I wore the soundtrack out (my little brother, who had never fucking seen it knew the words to the soundtrack). I read the book. I read Phantom by Susan Kay. I read The Angel of the Opera. I (fucking unfortunately) read The Phantom of Manhattan (hands down a waste of a perfectly good tree, I am still mad about this book literally 20 fucking years later). I researched the Paris Opera House. I wrote POTO fanfic… Ramin Karimloo is hands down my fave Phantom though. And I absolutely adore the Royal Albert Hall production. I'm so fucking glad they filmed it. Musicals. I have seen...so many fucking musicals live. Phantom of the Opera (4x), Les Miserables (2x), Wicked (2x), Mary Poppins (2x), Annie (2x), Hadestown, Six, Legally Blonde, Moulin Rouge, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hairspray, Beetlejuice, Hamilton, Big Fish, Mamma Mia, Anastasia, The Book of Mormon, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dear Evan Hansen, Fiddler on the Roof, RENT, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, If/Then, Jekyll & Hyde, Miss Saigon, The Great Comet of 1812, The Bodyguard, The Color Purple... Those are all just the professional live shows I have seen. And I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some! I've seen even more via high school/college productions. Not to mention movies/recordings. Or musicals I've only listened to the music of but haven't actually seen! Pacific Rim. My other forever obsession. It was the fandom I wrote my most fics for prior to Hazbin Hotel. My first fic on AO3 is one for Pacific Rim, lol. I s2g, those two bitchy, gay, neurodivergent scientists have lived rent free in my head for over a decade now... Those motherfuckers are constantly at each others' throats, but they did not even stop to question whether or not they would be Drift Compatible... They make me fucking ill. I have genuinely lost count of the number of times I've watched the movie...

I have a lot of Thoughts and Emotions about the Les Mis UK and Ireland tour and I am going to talk about them now. I’m not really a theatre kid so these will just be my rambles about fave songs and moments and my emotions. Under the cut for spoilers

First of all we had SUCH GOOD SEATS we were right in the middle of the stalls and we could see e v e r y t h i n g - That isn’t relevant to the tour but it’s important to me that you know

I loved how after Valjean’s Soliloquy as the music for At the End of the Day starts we get the title of the show against the backdrop. I am NOT doing that description any justice but it was really cool and that was the moment where I was like HOLY SHIT I’M WATCHING LES MIS

shoutout to Nic Greenshields’ Javert for just being a SUPER IMPOSING and scary figure like that man is TALL AND BROAD AND I WOULD BE SCARED OF HIM. I liked his performance for the most part. Stars is one of my favourite songs in the show and I think he did a great job of it. I have more to say on Javert’s Suicide but we’ll get to that later. 

Dean Chisnall as Jean Valjean was good, but like tbh he didn’t make a massive impression on me. Some of his songs were very shouty, especially Valjean’s Soliloquy. Props to him though because anyone who can play a role like Jean Valjean is massively talented and deserves all the credit. 

I’m not really a crier at all, but I said to aro-enj before we went to the theatre that if I cried at I Dreamed a Dream they’re doing something right. Katie Hall’s Fantine was fantastic and heartbreaking and I did shed a tear, so good for her. 

omg though at the end of Lovely Ladies, Fantine’s first client was the factory foreman!!!!!! He takes her hand and says “Ah yes, the virtuous Fantine” and I s2g I’ve never wanted to climb down all the seats and onto the stage to punch a character in the face before but I was feeling it there. 

The Confrontation was good, but this production had a lot of like, cheorographed fight scenes with lots of punches etc and ngl I found them very distracting at some points?

omg there was a super cute bit following Castle on a Cloud where baby Éponine and Madame Thenardier were copying each other and doing the same mannerisms in a “like mother like daughter” type thing and it was super funny and cute

Thenardier and Madame Thenardier were fun in general- More on that later- But Master of the House is a bop and sorry if you disagree but it’s true

THEN IT WAS 1832 TIME BABYYYYY- Look Down, Paris is another fave of mine and the staging and everything was amazing and of course aro-enj and I did a major flail when we saw our dude our man our guy Enjolras. Also I was such a HUGE FAN of Gavroche in this production he had so much spunk and personality and he was just the coolest lil dude, I really really enjoyed him.

TIME TO TALK ABOUT RED AND BLACK BABYYYYYYYYYYYY. I really enjoyed Samuel Wyn-Morris’ Enjolras. He was intense and passionate and was not there at all for Grantaire and Marius’ fucking about. There were a good few eyerolls and glares but he also wasn’t overly aggressive which was great to see. Steven Hall’s Grantaire was really great as well- Very rowdy and drunk and floppy- During ‘Lamarque is Dead’ and ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’ he was always over at the side of the stage not actually participating in the Revolution which I thought was very very good characterisation. 

And yes, there was ExR. There was a point in Red and Black, I can’t remember when, when Grantaire gave Enjolras a big shit-eating grin and fixed his...Cravat or vest I can’t remember which but I was like YAS. I AM FED. 

ok ok real talk I absolutely adore A Heart Full of Love, I just think it is so damn sweet and romantic and I absolutely loved the staging of it. Marius throws a pebble at Cosette’s window to get her to notice him and I was like omg I cry. They are in LOVE, your honor. 

For me the biggest surprise of the show was how much I enjoyed Will Callan’s performance as Marius. Marius isn’t a character I really focus on a lot but he was the perfect mix of bumbling and romantic and just the sweetest boi and I loved watching him. During In My Life he did a big dramatic twirl thing and it made me giggle because it was just so Marius. 

Nathania Ong’s Éponine was just fantastic. So much personality and On My Own took my damn breath away. I think Éponines are generally cast really well but Nathania’s was playful and young and so so sad at the sad time which is perfect for Ep. And she absolutely made On My Own her own, I had chills. 

omg also I can’t remember what part it was at, I think it was just after A Heart Full of Love? But Marius kind of introduces Eponine and Cosette and they recognise each other which I thought was a really great moment. And there was a part where Eponine has fallen over and Cosette helps her up and it was very sweet

Big fan of Javert’s barricade outfit. How do you do, fellow revolutionaries? 

AGAIN GAVROCHE IS JUST THE COOLEST CHARACTER IN THE SHOW. He straight up gave Javert the middle finger at the barricades and I died it was hilarious. 

SPEAKING OF DEATH, TIME FOR SADNESS THE MUSICAL. 

A Little Fall of Rain was heartbreaking, when Gavroche saw it was Eponine who had been shot he ran over and just stared at her and you could see the shock on his lil face. I always think there’s not enough emphasis on the fact that Eponine and Gavroche are siblings so it was a very nice moment. And when some members of Les Amis lifted Eponine away Enjolras went to Marius and wrapped him in a hug ;_; there were some really good Marius and Enjolras friendship moments in the show in general (aro-enj said they understand Marius/Enjolras shippers now :o)

Grantaire and Gavroche had this really sweet big brother/adoptive father and son relationship, and Grantaire was always trying to distract Gavroche and take him away from the Revolution and it was breaking my heart. During Bring Him Home they fell asleep together in the corner of the stage. I cry. 

AND THEN WHEN GAVROCHE DIED GRANTAIRE CARRIED HIS BODY AWAY FROM THE BARRICADE AND KEPT SHAKING HIM AND TRYING TO GET HIM TO WAKE UP AND IT WAS THE SADDEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN

OKAY SO then it’s the final battle everyone is dying. Marius gets shot and both Grantaire and Enjolras run to help him at the same time. They look up and their eyes meet and they hug. 

I witnessed an ExR hug with my own two eyes and I am literally never going to shut up about it or stop thinking about it. besties I am feral. 

OK SO NOW EVERYONE IS DEAD. The barricade got moved away but Gavroche was left on stage and the cart came out with Enjolras’ body on it and they put Gavroche beside him. Big big big ouch. 

And then Dog Eats Dog. I like Thenardier well enough and he was a great comedic character earlier in the show, but comedy during Dog Eats Dog hits a wrong note for me. This is one of the most sinister and dark parts of the show, so getting a couple of laughs in when 1) you’ve already had a LOT earlier in the show and 2) you have a comedic song i.e. Beggars at the Feast before the show finishes, it felt unnecessary 

OK SO JAVERT’S SUICIDE WAS KIND OF WEIRD???? Nic Greenshields got quite shout-y at some points, and while I understand your acting goals here because of Javert’s despair, I am also going to expect you to like...Hit the right notes. But it definitely wasn’t terrible. Also the staging was super weird for it imo. When he jumped there was a special effect to make it look like he was falling, but his limbs were flailing everywhere and honestly it just kind of looked silly and comical and I actually snorted. Not exactly the dramatic ending for Javert I was expecting. 

EMPTY CHAIRS AT EMPTY TABLES RIPPED MY SOUL FROM MY BODY AND KICKED IT TO DEATH. I’ve already said I really enjoyed Will Callan’s performance as Marius, and he was truly excellent here. It was absolutely heartbreaking and his voice and acting were superb, and then when you think it can’t get any sadder Les Amis come out of the shadows and stand around Marius as he sings. At the end Les Amis fade into the background again, and Marius shares one more look with Enjolras before he disappears. SAD. 

Also Thenardier changed the “this one’s a queer but what you gonna do?” line in Beggars at the Feast to “this one’s a queer but I’ve tried it too.” Thenardier is bisexual it’s canon now. 

ok so FINALE TIME. @ the person whose phone rang LOUDLY during the Bring Him Home reprise if I ever find you I’m going to BITE YOUR ANKLES. 

But anyway. One thing I really really loved is that when Fantine came back SHE HAD HER LONG HAIR AGAIN. It really annoys me that Fantine cutting her hair is a symbol of how far she’s fallen, and yet oftentimes when she comes back in the finale when she’s at peace she’ll still have her short hair???? Make it make sense???? So I’m really really glad they fixed that. 

The Finale gets me every damn time man. I think I’m going to get through it and then I hear “And remember the truth that once was spoken...” And I lose it. So yes more tears were shed, which again means they did it right. Also Valjean saw the Bishop again during DYHTPS and they hugged and it was wonderful, I love seeing the Bishop and Valjean meeting again in heaven. 

BUT YES THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS the show was so so excellent and so worth it. Stand out performances for me were Katie Hall’s Fantine, Nathania Ong’s Eponine, Will Callan’s Marius and the Gavroche we had that day (not sure which actor we had). But really the whole cast is gonna live in my head rent free from now on. There’s probably a lot of moments I enjoyed that I’m missing but hopefully @aromantic-enjolras will catch any I missed if they do a post about the show. I don’t even know what else to say just stan Les Mis and eat your vegetables I guess.

So I bought the OLC soundtrack for Starlight Express on vinyl pt 2

As for the actual discs, they play nicely! I first played them on my dad’s (much larger and much more expensive) turntable and they sounded pretty good. A bit staticky but nothing that is unbearable. As soon as I got back to my apartment, I played them on my player and while the sound quality wasn’t quite as good, the static was much less noticeable. Although, I will mention there were a few skips here and there, namely one during the tail end of Pumping Iron that required a little intervention from yours truly. (I just lifted the arm past the skip) But again, nothing that ruins the listening experience imo.

But aside from all of that, there are some extra items tucked away inside the cover!

First off, is this lyric sheet (???) for There’s Me, for some reason (?????)

no clue what this was from so if anyone can enlighten me, go ahead

Next, there is a playbill from the Broadway production, surprisingly

The inside is laid out with all of the cast photos within railroad tracks. Absolutely adorable (not original cast of course since this playbill is from 1988 and after the cast changes) there is also general production information and credits on the back.

However, the actual gem of this is what I found last

Yes! That’s a ticket from the Broadway production! Couple things to note here:

1. They sat in a pretty good seat. Back end of the orchestra floor. Also $50 for a orchestra seat on Broadway, inflation sure has kicked us in the ass

2. 8:00 pm??? The show is almost 2 and a half hours long! Couldn’t they have started just a little earlier? Most shows these days start at 7 or 7:30

3. There’s just something about the energy of seeing Starlight Express of all musicals over Thanksgiving weekend.

lmao the funniest part is, sun mostly gets to decorate for the puppet shows because small things are the easiest to make, but most kids aren’t into them half the time bc they want to play or w/e so he doesn’t get to do them as often as he’d like. so having cress and flare around would be a great way for him to get out that creative spirit for once! (plus they’re super stoked by the attention so it’s a positive feedback loop of affection lmao)

sun’s a big fan of bouncy, high-intensity music, but he’s especially fond of electropop and hyperpop! he’s not as fond of slow music, and he doesn’t like anything with crude language or super negative lyrics

moon’s super into anything with strong lyrics because he likes to sing along and make a whole production out of it, so he gets bored easily during heavy instrumental music but has a lot of fun with fast-paced, lyric-heavy things like rap and story albums.

eclipse doesn’t really “get” music, so he doesn’t really have much of a preference! mostly he just gravitates towards whatever his siblings like lmao

alex is a bit of a wild card cuz they also don’t have strong opinions for or against most things, so their playlists tend to be pretty eclectic! emo rock and dark metal are their guilty pleasures, tho.

lmao it used to happen all the time, sun being the primary means that his impulses even in the back tend to leak over into the front really easily and it’s only a relatively recent development (sub-two or three months) that moon’s been able to resist. and even still, if he’s not expecting it or paying attention, sun’s handsiness still tends to come through!

most of the time moon gets embarrassed and pushes sun back into the front so he doesn’t have to deal with the inevitable surprise x]

oh absolutely, if eclipse hadn’t been there and sun got injured in any way, the gunman absolutely would have been basically vaporized on the spot. which is why it’s good eclipse was there, because it saved moon from being decommissioned for murder lmfao

J2′s Virtual Con Panel (March 7th, 2021)

Alright, let’s talk j2! As all of you probably know by now Jared and Jensen had a virtual con panel today (March 7th, 2021); it was the first j2 con panel of the year, and we started on a good note. I will be providing some time stamps, and as always I will be providing a link to the whole panel at the end of this post so y’all can watch it for yourself, I highly recommend doing so, it was a really good panel. 

Okay, let’s jump right into it!

- The panel started late, and the reason I am mentioning that is because I have to comment on how stressful that wait was with the grey screen saying ‘standby!’. I much rather preferred the countdown, it was less stressful 😅 

- Anyways, the panel starts off with some cute banter between the boys, they spend around 6mins just talking to each other, joking about Jensen’s hair, telling stories about each other. Honestly, answering questions was unnecessary because I would have happily seen a full hour of that, of just them talking. 

- Jensen said he missed Jared 🥺

- So...Jared addressed Jensen’s birthday and okay let’s talk about this. After Jensen says he missed Jared and that it’s been so long since they’ve seen each other, Jared fumbles on his way to comment about how he was gonna post for Jensen’s birthday. You can practically see his brain buffer cause I s2g that man was this close to saying he was with Jensen before his brain kicked in, and then he switched lanes to mention taking a trip with G for their anniversary. 

Of course I have an opinion about this, I don’t know if I’ll be able to express it coherently, but I shall try; it is so incredibly convenient he’d mention what has been a big talking point in fandom for the past couple of days. This is such a stupid thing to lie about, and it’s a lie that falls apart in seconds cause if you think about it shit don’t make sense. 

We know that Jared and G were on a trip, but we also know they were in Colorado. Thanks to D’s hairstylist, we know Jensen’s also in Colorado. 

So, I’m expected to believe that these two men who are incredibly close, who in this same panel mention how much they’ve missed each other, that Jared who says he didn’t post on his boy’s birthday (and yes he called Jensen his boy again 🥰) because he got all emotional thinking about how this was gonna be the first birthday in years he wasn’t gonna be by Jensen’s side and be able to give him a hug- I am expected to believe that Jared was in the same state and didn’t even make a pitstop by where Jensen’s at?! That they’d be in the same state and not even meet up?!  Not only that, Jared and G’s anniversary was on the 27th which fell on a Saturday, based on reports we know they took that trip from the 28th to the 1st, if this was an anniversary trip why not make it a weekend thing from Friday to Sunday? Why do it from Sunday to Monday which was a workday? And I’m also expected to believe that they went on an “anniversary trip” and little mrs. social media preferred to post an old ass pic and not post anything at all from said trip, even posting a pic as if she were in Austin on the 1st.  Bitch please, I love you but go to someone else with that tale cause I ain’t buying. 

- Continuing with the panel, the boys start answering questions and I’mma just tell y’all right now a lot of the questions in this panel are kinda shit. This is the first panel of the year, both these men have big projects going on and yet the first question is about parenting. Their answer is pretty much the same thing they always answer, that they can’t do it alone, that most of it is their wives, Jared says he helps with the kids in the morning and then goes to the guest house and leaves Gen to it, if you’ve heard once you’ve heard it a million times. 

- Next question is about dreams, and Jensen makes a joke about mushroom induced dreams that Jared finds so hilarious he has to duck out of frame. I don’t know if y’all have ever seen The Late Show with Stephen Colbert but Stephen’s wife is usually there when he’s filming and that woman laughs at even his stupidest jokes, if you see them interact they are that couple that is so obviously in love years into their marriage, they make each other laugh, and the reason why I am bringing this up in a j2 post is because that is the vibe that moment had! Actually, that’s the vibe a lot of this panel had; that mushroom joke was not that funny yet Jared reacted as if Jensen was the funniest man in the world.  And the j2 doesn’t stop there because when it’s Jared’s time to answer the question the boys say they’re in each other’s dreams. x 

- Jared said he sits in the Impala in his garage 🥺 Jensen said his Impala is safe and covered in a secure location in Austin, which I’m going to interpret as he left it with Jared.

- A fan asked if we would see director!Jensen make an appearance on Walker and Jared revealed he was supposed to! Jensen was slated to direct episode 5 of Walker but due to commitments to The Boys he sadly wasn’t able to but both boys say that it will happen and it’s something they’re looking forward to. So are we boys, so are we ❤

- When talking about how Jensen was supposed to direct episode 5 of Walker, Jensen commented that Jared was looking forward to having someone who knew him so well and could help him creatively on the set. Now, I will for no particular reason remind y’all that G works on the show. 

I love Jensen ☕ 

-  Moving on! Jensen talked about his production company. He said it is currently developing 5 different projects including one that they will be delivering to the network this week and that they have a project he’s excited about with an spn alumn. He said working on these projects and his company is what he’s been spending his time on in Colorado.

- Jensen put on a beanie and y’all are not ready for what happened. Not only did he look cute af, not only did Jared like how Jensen looked and compliment him but he called Jensen babe 😍 Now listen you don’t have to take my word for it, listen to the audio a couple times, form your own opinion about what you hear but I have listened to multiple versions of that clip with headphones multiples times at different volumes...and imo Jared calls Jensen babe, you can try to take that from me over my dead body. x  

- They were talking about a fight outtake they did on the finale in slow motion, and did an example and when I tell y’all those two somehow managed to do an in perfectly in sync slowmo fight virtually! 

- They showed their matching tattoos! 

- Jensen sends Jared shirtless selfies and gives him beard updates. I swear I am not making this up. 

- And in the line of things I swear I am not making up is that Jared grabbed the pic Jensen send him, and edited it to make it seem as if Jensen was singing the clean version of WAP, that is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen 😂

- Jensen said him and Jared like to watch the early season gag reels 🤗

- At one point Jensen tried to tell one of Jared’s jokes and not even three words in this man was already in tears laughing so hard, he says it’s something that makes him laugh every time he thinks about it, he could barely get through the joke and to be fair it is hilarious; the joke goes: Did you hear there was an explosion at a cheese factory in France? The brie was everywhere. That cracked me tf up and it left them in tears 😂

- Jensen called Jared a freaking ox 😂

- Jensen says that if the roles were reversed and Sam had died, Dean would have wasted away at the back of a pool hall 😭

- The panel ends with j2 saying I love you to each other 😭❤

It was a really good panel, I had missed these men so so so so much, they have brightened my spirits and I’ve been in a good mood since I watched it, they just make me so happy 🥰. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend doing so, the boys were looking cute, it was funny, they kept making each other laugh and there was even heart eyes! Jared kept getting the cutest little smile when Jensen was speaking, it was adorable!
