Riptide’s themes of found family mean so much to me. 

Pirate crews are literally found families IN THE TEXT.  The way Roofus talks about the Black Rose crew choosing to collectively raise Chip and Lizzie. Jay’s arc can be read as being about the disconnection with one’s birth family experienced by many queer ppl. ALMOST EVERY CONVERSATION WITH DREY. Ollie is basically the Albatrio’s son.

so as currently stated I just finished binge-watching Invincible (which I really love oh my gosh) and I'm all caught up, but I was beating myself up about ONCE AGAIN having another smart, red-headed heroine who likes pink and wants to do good in the world as a favorite character in a series (Atom Eve, seriously, I love her so much)

then I end up watching her special episode and get to this part

Mumbo and Etho were in the royal army together. It wasn't a terribly long period of time, only a few months really.

Mumbo had joined as a mission from Grian to infiltrate the royal ranks while the resistance was still in its infancy stages and in desperate need of any kind of intel. This was long before Grian had eyes and ears at every turn.

Etho was nearing a decade of service and by that point, he had enough. He had seen all of the corruption within the kingdom, how it valued power and control over everything else, even its own citizens and those who served it. He had seen it first hand. He would bear the scars of it for the rest of his life.

Their paths didn't cross much in that short period of time, it really had no reason to with their differences in rank. In fact, it was something Mumbo actively tried to avoid. He had figured that if anyone was smart enough to figure him out, it would be the kingdoms most infamous knight. And he had been right.

Now you see, Mumbo wasn't the best spy. He was, after all, young and inexperienced. It was only a matter of time before he got caught. He was only fortunate that it was Etho who found him elbow deep in important documents.

Mumbo thought for sure he was a goner, but to his surprise the feared and well known solider actually helped him. Etho made sure Mumbo got out of the castle safely with whatever information he needed, in exchange for one simple thing: a place in the resistance.

It was purely coincidence that they would end up working closely together in the end. No one had known that Etho was a highly talented engineer on top of his famed battle skill.

anyway i was just browsing pinterest (app) and saw a drawing pinned from tumblr so i clicked the source link to give it a like. did not open in tumblr app (which i have) but rather desktop tumblr formatted for phone. banner at top said download the app. i already have it. clicked it to see what would happen. "download in progress". checked homescreen. two tumblrs now

and i can log on to my two different accounts (this one & my art rb blog) which is actually great news. wait i'm looking at them now and the t of the new tumblr is slightly bigger wtf

Finnish names and Swedish nicknames honestly sound so cute to my Dutch speaking ears. Like there's a guy in BiB called Kasperi? That's adorable. I have a friend with a Swedish partner and his entire family in law call him Sigge. That's adorable.

Meanwhile the people I know are like. I'm Diede. I know a few people named Wouter, Jens, Joost, Gert, Geert etc. Boring ass names (except mine ofc)

Here we have a man named Harold Shelton, he's trans. Harold is a big fan of a villain from a comic book series called Frigid Beam AKA Fred Ingrid. Frigid Beam's gimmick is exactly what the name implies he can shoot 'Frigid Beams' from his hands due to being hit by a meteor made of ice. There's no real good explanations for why Harold likes Frigid Beam so much, he just thinks he's kinda cool (no pun intended). Sexuality statement time, Harold is gay.
