Jess Mariano not only was depicted as a sexual being fairly early in his run on Gilmore Girls, but he was also the first character in the teenage group of characters to be shown actually having sex. The first two rounds of Dean and Rory are fairly sexless (neither of them seem terribly interested). Ditto for Lane and Dave. Paris only has sex at the end of her senior year of high school (after dating her boyfriend nearly a year) and is denounced as the "bad kid" for it.

Meanwhile Jess is enthusiastically sticking his tongue down Shane's throat on street corners, the diner, town events, being literally caught with his pants down by Luke and Lorelai, Shane can't even remember to retrieve her underwear from his car....and he freely admits he's not in love with her and doesn't even like her much. This character is asexual?!? Really? This is the guy who won't engage in sex outside of the context of a relationship with Rory despite him.... enthusiastically being willing to do exactly that? Not only was he the sluttiest character in the high school era, outside of Logan's circle he's been shown to be the most interested in sex outside of the context of love and romance.

Plus, he and Rory were pretty hot and heavy when they were together. I'm not sure where people get the impression he hated any sort of sexual activity with her. Seems to me they were both fairly enthusiastic about the concept. If Jess truly hates sex and isn't attracted to her at all, I don't see much of a future for the ship.

And let's fast forward to the AYITL era, where Jess tells Rory that his personal life is "steady, nothing permanent." I don't think he was referring to his bowling buddies. It seems that he's sleeping around but isn't committed to anyone. That doesn't sound like the behavior of someone who hates sex and will only engage in it when there's an emotional connection, or someone who won't consider anything beyond the scope of a reconciliation with Rory.

And you know what? Good for him. He's a good looking, successful, single adult male living in a major metropolitan area and I don't think he has to work very hard to get laid. He's entitled to a sexual and romantic life as an adult if he desires it, and everything we know about him indicates that he would very much desire it. His life does not revolve around the person he dated for five months as a teenager, and he shouldn't be expected to not seek his own enjoyment outside of the context of that relationship. The idea that his only sexual fulfillment as an adult has to be supplied by Rory alone when she's not held to those restrictions is denying the kind of person he was shown to be and is terribly unrealistic. He should be allowed to have a romantic and sexual life beyond her.

He's entitled to seek his own pleasure as a grown-up and believing that he wouldn't be interested in it is just not a remotely honest assessment of the character, either as a teenager or an adult.

Oh, and as a final note believing that Jess hated sex and didn't want to engage in it seems to me to be saying that you don't believe Milo can credibly portray someone who is a sexual being which is....kind of ridiculous, given his other signature role involved him wanting to pork his super hot wife at pretty much every opportunity and most people found that extremely convincing. So I think that's why I'm speaking out on this. It seems to be low key insulting Milo as well as mischaracterizing Jess, and I am not here for it.

just thought about the fact that part of being a doctor is, unfortunately, having to cope with the knowledge that you can't save everyone. and yeah, barton might just seem like a cold-hearted monster on the outside. BUT the man is also able to feel cognitive empathy, and sometimes, he has genuinely felt bad for people / made a connection to them. and with this in mind, especially considering the patient he had at the time didn't even have an emergency contact to reach out to before they died, the first time that he wasn't able to prevent someone from dying —

barton had to go excuse himself to BAWL his eyes out after they were gone. and this was because they just seemed so lonely, yet they were also appreciative that he was willing to stay with them before they died. so, although barton does feel like his heart is ugly and ice-cold at times, he is capable of demonstrating kindness towards people + he isn't completely evil. plus, in addition, the man didn't sleep well at all for at least a week because although they do tell you that people are going to die in medical school... i can imagine that it's so much different whenever you actually experience it.

i think the thing that’s silliest about the mandatory 0 rule is how it replaces your worst result- so since iga didn’t lose r1 in any tournaments she did play, she’s losing more points than aryna who lost her first match in dubai. obviously it’s not “unfair” because the players know, it is what it is, but i just think that if the rule rewards or incentivizes (for lack of a better word) tanking… it’s not a good rule. i hope next year they make the requirement 3 or 4 500s because 6 is just absurd for top players who go deep in 1000s and slams lol

I don't think it incentivizes tanking though because the ideal is to not drop any of the 1000 tournaments...if a player doesn't get any mandatory zeros then they hypothetically get to include all of their 1000 results, where it's a lot easier to earn more points than in the 500s. Plus, if Iga had tanked in Miami for example and only gotten 10 points, she still would have lost those 10 points, and ended up at the same point total she's at now – it only seems like she's lost more than Aryna because they've only just now decided to apply the mandatory zeros.

I also think we're not taking into account the fact that these calculations are all made in hindsight. No high-level player is going to roll up to a 1000 tournament and decide to tank for the purpose of having a smaller point total to drop, because a) they're probably not aiming to have any mandatory zeros anyway, and b) they'd much rather replace their current lowest point gain. Aryna was only able to drop Dubai because she performed better in later 1000s. If she had lost first round of Wuhan, for example, she would have had to count one of those +10 values. So, I understand the thought process but I don't think that's actually an issue in practice. The players who actually need to worry about mandatory zeros are never going to settle for early exits anyway.

But I 100% agree, 6 500s is too many, especially considering the 1000s are all mandatory now. Even just the placement of the 500s in the schedule makes it difficult to fit 6 in – players are being forced to commit themselves to long stretches of back to back to back to back tournaments. I think it's also even harder for Iga because it was an Olympic year, so no chance of making DC (and ended up missing Canada as well).

But on a much more serious level I think it's just the scheduling issues, again and again and again. The season is too long, 10 mandatory 1000s and 6 mandatory 500s is ridiculous, the way that the mandatory zeros were applied was weird.

there we go I'm pretty sure I've gotten all the endings of returnal, including the tower of sisyphus ones! amazing game, enthralling gameplay, stunning art direction, phenomenal pacing of introducing new environments and elements (this is maybe the thing that has me most impressed, actually -- it really felt like they found the perfect pace to take between letting you settle in with skill or place or element, and introducing a new one, there was this perfect sense of discovery and mastery that rarely got boring or overwhelming and had me in a constant state of pleasant surprise and intrigue), psychologically evocative story with some of the most deliciously insidious ludonarrative resonance I have ever seen, we must imagine selene if not happy (definitely not happy) then at least somehow at home in hell.
