New idea: Shinsou is supposed to be babysitting Eri but he has to do something so he leaves Denki in charge for a little bit, he comes back expecting the house to be burnt down but instead he finds Eri begging Kaminari to let her re-dirty up her room so they can clean it together again
#kaminari is good with kids i just know it#got this idea while listening to the Mary Poppins classic Spoonful of Sugar#he turns it into a game and she forgets its a chore#at one point he turns it into a race#“if you can clean your side of the room faster than i can clean my side ill get you icecream!”#she excitedly starts cleaning the room and once shes super focused he stops cleaning his side#he was gonna give her ice cream anyway#when she finishes her side he goes “great job! now help me finish my side and we can get some icecream!” and they both work on that side#hes a tricky guy#he may not do great in school but hes still VERY clever#then when theyre done he goes “Okay! Now we can take an ice cream break and clean the closet after!” and she is having so much damn fun that#she begs to finish the closet FIRST#i love them#i wanna see her love him and him being a surprisingly good babysitterrr#denki kaminari#eri mha#eri my hero academia#hitoshi shinsou#mha#bnha#dadzawa#shinsou is amazed#and when Eri rants about it to mic and aizawa later they are also amazed#erasermic#shinkami

Okay if you haven't yet, and you have Netflix/Paramount+, consider giving "School Spirits" a chance.
It looks like a silly little cheesy teenage ghosts show, I put it on for background noise, and then got totally engrossed in the mystery. It's VERY well written, very well filmed, the mystery was GREAT and the payoff at the end is also great.
One of the things majorly lacking in shows I've recently tried to watch is that they try to do a twist/reveal at the end that comes out of nowhere. They don't want you to guess what they're doing. This show doesn't do that. This show wants you to guess. They give you seven different mysteries and enough clues to guess (most of) what is going on, so that when you get the final puzzle piece to any given mystery, it feels GREAT.
The story premise is this: a teenager in hs wakes up as a ghost in the hs, and doesn't remember how she died, and with the help of the other ghosts, tries to solve the mystery of her own death.
Simple premise. BEAUTIFULLY executed. Not all of the questions that arise get answered, but the main one (what she doesn't remember) gets solved by the end of the season, leaving the "why/how and what comes next" to be carried to the next season. It does a cliffhanger RIGHT. But now I desperately want to see the second season (which I believe has been approved, so it's a matter of waiting).
So pretty please, if you're looking for something to do and a great, engaging lil mystery to watch, consider! School Spirits!!
#school spirits#there is so much in this show#Spike and I finished watching it today#her for the first time me for the second#and the second time through it was even better because I was picking up the right threads#the first time through there are SO MANY CLUES#but there are also SO MANY MYSTERIES that you aren't sure which clues belong to which mystery#and then the last half of the last ep hits#and dumps out all the final puzzle pieces to several mysteries#and we spent like an hour digging through thoughts afterword#pulling out themes and clues#and there are some potentially REALLY CLEVER things done#and actually they 100% followed through on the things they set forth and paid off so far#so I feel pretty confident some of the things we pieced together actually belong to the puzzle#and aren't just mistakes#or coincidences#and it's been so long since I got to see actually good writing STAY good writing through#I'm so stoked for this series

Communication and a Question for the Fandom
I started this off thinking I would end up with one conclusion and I actually found myself changing it by the end. I’ve read a lot frustration with the ineffable husbands and their lack of communication. “You don’t ever talk to each other" and "You never say what you’re really thinking.”
Now, that may be true. But also, throughout both seasons, we have seen repeatedly how they have been under surveillance too.
Not just visual
But audio as well… Sign in Hell: Be Careful What You Say. But there’s more to the sign itself. I just can’t make it out. It’s not a sign that’s featured in the extras either, which is also interesting.
What I could find though, in the The Devil in the Details X-Ray video was a little more of the sign, but I still can’t make out what the rest of it says:
Which brings in my Question for the Fandom. If anyone else is able to make out rest of this, I’d be interested. (This was around the 2:05 timestamp)
Moving on, that’s not the only *Clue* about their surveillance either. We know about Hell using electronics as a means of communication. They just cut in to whatever happens to be playing at the time, right? Radio, tv, Saturday Morning Funtime… so it would make sense that they’d use it to listen too. Is the Bookshop any safer, being an embassy for Heaven and all?
And it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how either side is listening in. We all remember this interaction but really… played as a joke but what if it wasn’t? Or maybe they just hadn’t figured out the specifics yet at that point.
Maybe there are certain “trigger words.” We see the reactions when Crowley is called “nice.”
Crowley tells Aziraphale to “shut up” numerous times. We hear both them say “don’t say that” a lot.
But also…
Closed captioning capitalized it just like that. Interesting. (If you haven’t watched the show with cc on, I recommend it)
What does this all mean? They just don’t talk to each other? Well, no. Not necessarily. We’ve also seen them find ways around directly speaking too.
Writing it down. (Which was promptly burned)
Aziraphale mouthing “Trust Me” during the bullet catch. Could they have had other short hands or code words? Emergency contingency plans? I personally imagine so. Side note: could they have also been using alcohol (laudanum) as cover for plausible deniability?
“Safe spaces”? The backroom in the Bookshop that they kept going to for private conversations. We know they had alternative rendezvous locations in the first season too – the old bandstand, the number 19 bus, and the British Museum café.
The Final Fifteen. I don’t want to take away from the emotion of the scene and I think Season 3 (come on Prime!) give us the rest of the story. I have faith in Neil Gaiman (pun sort of intended). But I will propose that the kiss may have been not only Crowley’s plead but also a misdirect or signal or other way to communicate between the two that we have yet to understand. In the end, Aziraphale was able to get the Metatron to break and divulge that the next step of the Great Plan was the Second Coming…before even leaving Earth…which was pretty impressive in itself. Was Aziraphale then able to relay anything to Crowley before the elevator? Sendarya’s video here does a great job with that very question (and others).
Most experts agree that 70-93% of communication is nonverbal and when communicating emotions, applying the 7-38-55 rule. Meaning only 7% through spoken word, 38% tone of voice, and 55% through body language. So maybe they’re not doing so bad after all. Those are just my thoughts and we’ll just have to wait and see and hope.
#good omens#good omens season 2#good omens season 3#renew good omens#ineffable husbands#crowley#aziraphale#the final fifteen#wait and see#I wish I had something clever to put here but really I'm just rambling

literally nobody asked for it, but here's my list of saltburn essays that i've slowly been drafting over the course of the last week which WILL be required reading for anybody trying to engage with me about this movie. my very personal saltburn 101 syllabus just dropped
A Wolf in Deer's Clothing: Saltburn's Attempt at Innocence
an examination of party costumes and our character's last attempts to masquerade as something they're not: felix—an angel, all-forgiving and all-knowing, something to be worshiped; and oliver—a prey animal, prey to class-divide, prey to saltburn, prey to felix.
thoughts about oliver specifically are loosely organized in my #bambi tag
A Midsummer Night's Mare: Farleigh Start as the Ultimate Victim of Saltburn
a farleigh character study, about the ways he was mistreated and manipulated at saltburn, about fighting to stay alive and the scars left behind by knowing when to give in
alternatively titled "QuickStart", may be adapted into a conclusive essay specifically focusing on oliver and farleigh's relationship
The Eye of the Beholder: On Saltburn's Voyeurism & Violence [working title]
how wealth and class pushes the catton's toward the volatile reality of being able to look, but not touch. on desire and the lack thereof, and portraying yourself as an object to be desired
may end up as two separate essays on wealth and aestheticism but i'm pushing toward a conclusive essay about the intersection of the two, which i feel is at the heart of saltburn
alternatively titled "Poor Man's Pudding: A Melvillian Approach to Saltburn's Class", again, may be adapted into it's own essay
Gender-Fluid: A Study in Sexuality and Saltburn's Desire to be Dry
a deep dive into the bodily fluids of saltburn and how oliver upsets the standard of men who are just so lovely and dry. on the creative choice to lean into the messy wetness of sex and desire and the audience's instinct toward repulsion
a celebration of the grotesque and an examination of why we would label it as such
least developed of the four, heavily inspired by @charnelpit's lovely post about the fluids in saltburn
if anybody is actually interested in any of these, i can work toward something closer to a finished piece instead of just bullet points and quotes in a google doc, but mostly this is so i can share my very brief takes on a multitude of themes in saltburn that have been haunting me
edit for people seeing this in the future: all posts about my essays are being organized into my #saltburn 101 tag if you’re interested in following these through to development!
#saltburn#saltburn posting#really desperately need someone to pay me to write saltburn essays all day#or else these will never be more than a smattering of bullet points#and these are only the most developed of the millions of the thoughts that i've had rolling around in my brain this last week#idk if lengthy meta-essays are interesting to literally anyone other than me#but if any of these speak to u and u have thoughts abt them#of course u are welcome to send them my way#i think all of these were born out of either seeing bad fandom takes (ie. everything ive seen about farleigh and oliver)#or rly good fandom takes that haven't been talked about enough like the fluids thing#anyway#oh also if u want any interview clips that back up any of these ideas i have a list thats like a million miles long#and would be happy to dig for any specific things im talking about here#bambi#also also im sorry i kno the colon in academic essay titles is so overused i just love a subtitle sm#i love love love a clever little essay title. titling my essays was literally my favorite part of the essay process in college#saltburn 101

what's our consensus on Boothill's thoughts on easter? if it exists in the hsr universe (which.. surely it must be known of in a historical sense, at least? i swear the MC refers to "easter eggs" at least once) it's probably totally detached from the religious background by that point, right?? im unclear on how earth connects to the rest of the universe lore-wise but whatever.
i think he would be delighted by it honestly. specifically the egg hunts. i can 100% see him meticulously hiding eggs in all sorts of crazy places. climbs up trees like a fucking monkey just to tuck them in the branches all the way at the top. does impossible parkour and hides one away out of sight. hides them in gutters and under rocks and in light poles and shit. considers the environments to pick the most similar colors to make them harder to spot. but also i imagine he's really considerate for younger kids that can't get to the most difficult ones, so he scatters plenty in more intermediate areas too.
simultaneously i really feel like he'd enjoy taking part in the hunts too.. the candy is not the priority though, he gives that away to the kids (or you 💖) for sure. his real goal is that HIGH SCORE BABY !!!! he'd get so competitive about it so fast lmao. immediately starts climbing all over the fucking place trying to find the most difficult ones and whining if he can't find any. he has a pretty substantial advantage with the enhanced eyes and everything, so you'd probably have to team up with someone to stand a chance at beating him lol
#him picking up his daughter and holding her up so she can grab higher ones......#hoisting her up on his shoulders and letting her order him around on where to go....#dropping subtle hints on more hidden ones..#getting all proud when she figures out clever ones....#what if i die.......#this is making me so nostalgic for Easter egg hunts though#the littlest kids would have like a ten minute head start so they could grab the easiest ones#and then it was just fucking. CHAOS#never was very good at climbing trees. that shit made me so mad there were always so many at the top#hm. maybe i should organize one with my friends next year. hmmmm#anyway happy easter to those who celebrate#if i havent gotten to your date request i AM working on it i pinkie swear lol#brain is just being very very stubborn for these last few so it's taking me forever#adhd die forever challenge#sal.drabbles#also snake bite anon if you see this i got your follow-up ask lol#i am working on a summary for the draft because it is a fucking DOOZY lemme tell you#and. may also lose me followers. probably not but maybe#WHATEVER it'll make sense when i post it lol

I am way too tired/jetlagged to make this post right now, but the reason Armada Starscream is so specifically well done to me actually isn't just the way he's got more depth than just wanting to take over Megatron. It's the way he falls back on this image he has of himself as someone who is solely focused on Megatron. And he is obsessed with Megatron, but the disconnect between Starscream and his image of himself is what gives him actual depth.
The reason this is so cool to me is like, that self-image--that he is single-mindedly obsessed with Megatron and will sacrifice everything else for that goal, no matter who gets hurt--is pretty close to what every other Starscream is. (The selfishness you associate with Starscream is a little more subtle, but it's there in the "no matter who gets hurt" clause imo.)
So if you go into this as a Transformers fan, you're already expecting Starscream to betray Megatron and try to best him and rule the Decepticons. But so does Starscream, even when he's demonstrably proven to both his peers and the audience that he's more than that. It's almost like his past incarnations--or the audience's expectation of him--haunt him. It turns his own internal man-versus-self conflict into this really cool man-versus-narrative conflict.
And what's crazy about this is, through the last moments of this arc, Starscream does grow beyond the narrative we'd expect from other Starscreams! But he never admits that to himself, because it's easier for him to cling to the idea that he's laser-focused on his hatred of Megatron. Every time he helps the minicons--every time he helps the humans--even in his last words, he LIES to himself and everyone around him that everything he did was always about Megatron. Because it's easier to simplify himself than to grasp that he might be a complex character. Because he's a person and he has all the messy conflicts that come with that. He falls back on the same ideas every single other Starscream did, and THAT is his undoing. Not that he is self-centered because he's Starscream. Not that he is obsessed with Megatron because he's Starscream. That he THINKS he is all of those things and he will not LET himself be anything else.
I would argue that that's a bigger theme in Armada, as well. Optimus and Megatron more or less spend their final fight coming to terms with their story roles in Transformers. I really feel like if you sneezed on them, they would realize they do this in every universe and in every timeline. Starscream's is the most interesting example to me, though, because he's such a departure from other versions of Starscream; hell, he acts (and looks, lol) a lot more like some incarnations of Thundercracker. But he's still got classic Starscream in him in this roundabout meta reference. He's like an homage to his namesake. It's so cool! And it works perfectly with the story he's a part of.
#transformers armada#armada starscream#so. this part goes in the tags but. if you know me or recognize my url you may be going ''half life fan take''#especially given that this is by far my favorite starscream that i have ever seen#I am beating zero half life/valve gaming allegations with this one#but imo this is a reminder to me that like. the best meta media is always the kind that doesnt shout it out#i mean. generally the more you have to handhold your audience on what the media is about. the more it is bad#unless it's specifically really dialectal media aimed at young children and the directness is like. The Point#(wild robot being a good example of very obvious media meant for kids that is still clearly like. fantastic)#but in general i think meta media (metagames and the like) kinda lose their impact when you have to explain them#people forget that half life doesn't really hold your hand about this#because valve games are so entrenched in internet culture#it goes beyond ''the one free man'' as an icon - the game is about the horror of being a video game player character#and especially of being a silent protagonist#gordon's helplessness in the plot and the way he's ''the one free man'' but not free is a commentary on how games funnel you through their#stories while acting like the player character has any agency#gman's ability to teleport players around various environments and even to/from stasis is similar to how gamedevs load/unload characters#and teleport them around cutscenes and environments when the player cant see them#he gives them just enough freedom to feel natural while keeping tight control over their purpose in the story he is telling. like an author#SIMILARLY. this is why you can't do myhouse.wad again#part of the horror of myhouse.wad is the familiarity of it and the subtle offputting changes from standard doom mapping FOR DOOM PLAYERS#even down to how it was released#it isnt just a silly meta internet horror game everything about it was purpose-built to send goosebumps specifically to doom modders and#classic doom enthusiasts#ANYWAYS. ARMADA IS LIKE THIS TO ME#behind all the anime nonsense and the like 20 filler episodes in the start there's a genuinely clever commentary on like#transformers as a franchise and as a story that keeps getting retold#THERE'S MORE TO IT THAN THAT BUT YOU GET MY POINT.

Are there any in universe memes made about TBH and its members? (even just in their fan circles)
Also how much does Margie love them?
They build a pretty active little cult following to begin with, and eventually arrive under the more public eye before too long (can't be helped, really)--and so there absolutely would be memes about them circulating the online fan communities. And because Margie has a tumblr that she continues to use, you can bet they all find her sooner rather than later lmaooo what those memes might look like, though...I have no idea! Maybe you guys would know better what that might be haha! The more absurd/non-sequitur they are, the more Margie likes them.
#she just loves people talking about the band and music generally. She loves all the silly discourse and obversations and theories.#so long as they're in good nature.#happy to be a fly on the wall for most of it#Likes to respond when directly asked to#If she has something clever to contribute...#but knows when to pretend she doesn't see smth and aggressively ignore it.

I've been reading a lot of science fiction and fantasy stories lately, by a lot of different authors, and I've noticed an interesting trend. Not something that happens all the time by any means, but something that's more likely to happen in one over the other.
Magic fixes problems while science causes problems.
And it makes sense that it would be that way, because magic is something that we don't really have, and we can only imagine what we would do with it if we did. Magic is just altering reality in ways that logically shouldn't happen, given our current understanding of physics. If we could change reality with a snap of our fingers, oh man we would do so much good with it.
But science. We've seen what science can do. And before it can achieve the lofty goals that it sets out to do, it goes through any number of failures and setbacks. We've seen the mistakes. We've suffered through them. Then in fiction, we extrapolate what could happen with advancements that we haven't quite reached yet.
With science fiction, we tell cautionary tales of a that future could be. With fantasy, we tell fairy tales of a past that never was.
Not every time. But often enough to notice.
#and yes of course there are plenty of stories about magic gone wrong#and of scientific advancements gone right#and plenty of both kinds that are about neither#but I am seeing a trend#we are disillusioned with science but still idealistic about magic#which just makes it all the more refreshing when someone writes about a magician who does ask the important questions#stories that take their worldbuilding in clever directions#that the stereotypes don't touch#I do love a good story that thinks things through#writer life

finished The Poppy War by RF Kuang. It was definitely really gripping but I think I really need to start reading synopses of things more closely before i read/watch/play new things. i thought it was going to be a high fantasy story about a plucky young woman who uses her magic powers to prove herself. and for the first half of the book it was that. and then it got really dark really fast. i guess i shouldn't have been too surprised considering that i read Babel by the same author. but yeah, i have deeply mixed feelings about examining real-world atrocities through the genre of fantasy. i think it works when this happens in horror. the atrocity is so terrible that when it's examined through the abstraction that horror provides, there's emotional truth even if it's not literal. but when those atrocities are abstracted into fantasy conventions? i feel like from a certain point of view it cheapens what really happened. not saying that i 100% feel that since the book definitely handles its parallel to the Nanjing Massacre with gravity, and even the tonal shift makes sense. that's exactly how war is in real life. but then we start talking about gods and fire powers and trances again and it makes those parallels fall apart
#i had a similar problem with babel#where that silver magic being a metaphor for the exploitation wrought under british colonialism is good and really clever#but then through the book it seems to gradually become less and less metaphorical and more literal#which makes the ending completely fall flat for me. in the real world the british empire had the equivalent of at least 50 silver magics#like i got where it was coming from i guess it was meant to be cathartic#but to me it just didnt sit right#prrrrrrobably not going to read the next books in this trilogy but let's see

my heart dies a little whenever people call wheatley dumb </3
#finley's evil monologues#listen i can talk about why i think wheatley is actually smart and explain that him being designed to make bad choices has nothing to do#-with that but i dont have the energy for that because i physically feel like a wet toilet paper#okay wait i can summarize my thoughts actually#he's not dumb#just impulsive#he's actually came up with some clever ideas in game and is very good at improvisating on the spot imo#what made him take the bad choices he did was because he is a very impulsive person#or at least that's how i see it
