we're really glad for how we work and that we can have the communication we do, because like. lately, we haven't actually been communicating with each other like we used to--honestly, since we all but abandoned the front room, we've ended up isolating more and more into groups and relationships with each other that we already had. it's felt very lonely and empty, even though it should be anything but.

but because we can communicate, because we can make it happen...

we're making plans right now to bring the front room back into action since we realized that that facilitated a lot of internal communication (everyone who wanted to front was stuck in a room together, and hey, some folks who didn't want to front hung out because their friends were there too). while the crystals we currently use for fronting will still be in use, especially for folks like Wolf (fronts the most) and Carmen (needs to be able to access the body quickly in case we're panicking or otherwise upset to help calm us down, not always time to get to the front room), but other than that...

and this is really nice, too! because by all means, Carmen and Oakley should have met ages ago! but because of how isolated everyone's been since the front room went out of use, and because Oakley/Wolf only formed after everyone had their crystals, they never really got much of an opportunity to do so (plus it uh. didn't help that they were in two totally different realms until just some months ago)

i dunno we're just. very glad this is a thing we can do, and that we're actually communicating and talking about how to fix the problem

(also yes the font is different from what it should be, we use a third party program so that we can have the opendyslexic font on discord. it's especially helpful for reading the fics we write on discord, and going back to read stuff from before we had the font is painful and you can 100% tell that we were Struggling)

Inspired by the "What if Question was the one who saves Danny from GIW?" post that I made awhile ago.

Bring your sidekick to work day!

It was a tradition that started around the time multiple superheroes were taken on sidekicks. Everyone in the league knew why they'd bring their sidekicks to work. Their sidekicks get to socialize with peers their own age and they could properly introduce themselves to other heroes.

So it was a surprise when The Question, the league's faceless conspiracy theorist, offhandedly mentioned that he'll be bringing his sidekick to work while telling them about what new information he's found about Cadmus and another new government agency he thought they should start looking into.

The heroes found it hard to believe.

Question has a sidekick.

Surely they must have misheard.

No way that guy would want a sidekick, let alone get a sidekick.

When "Bring your sidekick to work day" arrived everybody was prepared to see the heroes and sidekicks.

The list went on

The heroes all mingle before realizing that they haven't seen Question. Maybe they did mishear the man? Or Question got his words mixed up?

That was until the computer announced the arrival of Question and a guest that was unidentified.

They all turn around to see the faceless trench coat wearing investigator followed by a tinier faceless trench coat wearing kid. The kid was practically a clone of Question, except...tinier.

"This is my sidekick. Who." Question points to the faceless kid

Flash: Who?

"That's me!" the kid says pointing to himself.

"Why don't you acquaint yourself with the others." Question tells his sidekick who just nods and goes off to introduce himself with the others kids.

Batman: I didn't take you one for having a sidekick.

Question: I could say the same for you. And the sidekick thing just kind of happened. The kid wouldn't leave me alone and I couldn't let the kid get himself into any trouble.

Batman: Understandable

Meanwhile with the sidekicks.

Everybody's asking Who various questions about Question and how he met the man. They barely know anything about the guy.

Question 1: What's the deal with your name?

Who: It's a work in progress. Since my mentor's name is Question. I figured my name should be like a question.

Question 2: How do you eat?

Who: I shove food into my face

Question 3: Where's your face?

Who: Wouldn't you like to know

Question 4: Do you know about his conspiracies?

Who: Of course I know about his conspiracies! I'm one of them

Other sidekicks: What?

After some talking, the sidekicks get along with each other very well. When they reunite with their mentors the computer rings stating that John Constantine was coming along with a guest.

The heroes then all watched as a girl with white hair and green eyes wearing a trench coat and was dragging John Constantine by his sleeve. She grins and introduces herself as Dani with an "i" and that she's John's apprentice.

Dani then spots Who and they immediately do the Spider-man point at the other meme

Who (Danny): you got a trench coat mentor too?!

Dani: Where's your face?!

Do you get the impression the live action is treating us like utter morons?? Like I thought that making it aimed at an older audience would open the doors for more subtle story telling, but no, they're just using monologues to tell us eveything! Like in the second episode Katara's like 'oh his power isn't that he's the avatar, it's that he ~connects~ to people'. Girl we're not idiots we can see that!! And the first episode with Aang's goddawful 'I don't want this responsibility' monologue

THIS, YES. The word that keeps coming to mind is definitely "subtlety". The show for literal children? Had it. The remake for adults? Not so much.

Masters' Academy AU: Magic Types

One of the million bit of lore I'll eventually need to explain is that magic users are divided by the energy source they draw upon...

Different energies are better at different things, but with time and effort they can be put to any task. For example someone born with an affinity for fire magic could throw a fireball better than any of our trio, but that doesn't mean the boys couldn't do it too.

There are also some passive effects holding the energies within you; like a proto-spell it's something a magic user does automatically and unconsciously to digest the energy they naturally draw in but aren't doing anything with.

The effects are the kind of thing you'd expect; to use the example of the fire mage again, they'd not really notice hot or cold weather. Norman can see the dead, Dipper has near perfect recall, and Danny has heightened empathy.

MAN. I HEADCANNON PM! DAZAI DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE. like, he knows love. The structure of what it is, a simple stature but thats only the view from the outside. when he finds himself trapped inside the complex labyrinth love was — he was at lost for where to go. no routes in his mind could pave a path, there was no logic working in this maze. as if it were different from everything he'd ever known.

I headcannon Dazai does not know love, but merely the theory it is. He knows how to seduce yet he does not know what it is. he just knows it's something that helps him to manipulate, to take control of the situation.. but within those strings, he finds himself no longer the puppeteer — but he, was the puppet he was playing all along. he never knew the dangers of what love could do, until his heart became what was being played as a price to be payed. it started off as a thrill, then an annoyance, and then a constant looming — the feeling of his heart tightening in his chest. truthfully, he never knew anything.

And that made him fear it.

but you knew everything, how to love. and what's beautiful, is the fact that he melts within your embrace. he learns what is right, he learns love — what it means to love and be loved. he finds out with you that in all dark corners, love is still beautiful. That within this dark maze, you were the one who pulled him out and into the light, you who spoke of love so beautifully. there came an enlightenment to him, that you were the one — the one he's been waiting for all his life, his answer.

but PM! Dazai Osamu was but a man — fearing the unknown, for the feeling of lost once you slip away from his fingers. Dazai Osamu fears the day you would ever be snatched away from him, if he'd ever awake with you beside him in the morning, and the next, and he regrets; he regrets knowing love, how beautiful it is. because you've shown him why life is worth living, and if that — you, were to ever be taken away..

hehehe… i’ve idly been thinking about carlos as a road cyclist and oscar as a bmx competitor (because i was watching the bmx earlier, tricks were insane tbh). and…

maybe they have a dispute at the cafeteria because oscar is in a really bad mood, and carlos joins his friend charles (triathlete) in the queue. that’s not the problem. the problem is that carlos and charles spend way too long chitchatting about the chocolate muffins and oscar is like: excuse me mate i just want my eggs. and it’s a bit of a misunderstanding, and carlos thinks it’s kinda disrespectful for oscar to interrupt his reunion with his training buddy who he hasn’t seen in a while.

so then carlos and oscar have a passive aggressive fight via instagram, and their fandoms love it and start calling them “carcar” and they’re both like. what.

anyway they both podium in their respective sports, not gold, but pretty damn close. and then get a bit wasted at the closing ceremony, eyes all bright at the olympic torch and stuff, stadium alight all around them. and then they somehow end up at the same party and then rent those rentable city bikes and race each other down the champs elysée, and then they’re full of adrenaline and feeling kinda silly and breathing really hard. and they’re in front of an alleyway that smells like piss and stale beer but somewhere a clock has just struck midnight, the both of them are just a little frazzled and the energy is changing, and then they both lean in, and — [redacted]

Evan is a disowned heir of a rich family who ends up as the Victorian doctor who performs illegal surgeries and wanders the streets at night kidnapping prostitutes or just anyone unfortunate enough to be sleeping in an alleyway, and harvesting their organs for the Black Market to support himself and his twin sister Pandora who was also disowned, as she tries to get her education complete enough to secure a full-time teaching job as a professor at a well-known university. They bear the posh accents and elegant mannerisms of their wealthy birth. The twins live in a run-down, cheap, and dirty flat in a building owned and forgotten by the aristocratic Crouch Family where their only son, a sleazy and lecherous professor named Barty, often runs off too to avoid his father.

Barty somehow becomes friends with Pandora and endears himself to Evan, who he pays absurd amounts of money as a resurrectionist for his lectures at the university. Over time it becomes less for his lectures and more of an excuse to talk to Evan more often. One day, Barty decides to follow Evan and finds him dissecting people in dank alleyways and just watches in amazement before running off back to his house and spending the entire night drinking absurdly expensive alcohol and just thinking about Evan and his blood-streaked blonde hair and steady hands and mindless humming. The next day, Barty cannot keep his cool and has to leave earlier than usual or else he might jump Evan and impulsively sends the guy a bunch of photos containing cadavers and organs as a pathetic attempt at flirting. He was actually supposed to use those photos for his upcoming lecture and had to ask another professor at the university if he could borrow theirs.

Meanwhile, Regulus is the fiance of a wealthy aristocratic heir who ran away after getting caught in a scandal where he publicly berated and attempted to physically attack his to-be-husband and his mistress, who was the wife of another aristocrat. Due to his pride, he chose to run away on his own terms instead of being disowned. He quickly comes to the conclusion that he doesn't understand how to navigate life without his family's support so he turns to prostitution and caters to broke lower-class men and women who want to delude themselves with the illusion of a comfortable and wealthy lifestyle with Regulus' elegant and upper-class mannerisms and speech. He finds the job isn't all too different from when he was pandering to the society around him back with his parents. At his job, he meets Evan, who nearly tries to kill Regulus without looking properly, and he immediately recognizes him from dinner parties, balls, and shared private tutors so there is just this moment when Evan has Regulus pinned to the ground with a pair of scissors at Reg's throat and his eyes just brighten like "Hey! I know you!" and Regulus is like "😨" and hyperventilating. Regulus eventually moves in with the Twins, much to their delight.

On the terms of Jegulus, because I can't help myself, the news of Regulus' runaway reaches Sirius who was aboard studying and he flees home back to London immediately and spends a week running back and forth from his parents to the Potters' and their son, James, a politician. Mainly just him screaming at his parents for their poor parenting and running to the Potters' to cry about where Regulus could've possibly went or if he's alive. This repeats for about a week and is how James becomes familiar with Regulus, through Sirius' pov, and the situation that has occurred. Everything kinda just marinates in his head for some time until he's out at night and thoroughly frustrated with his occupation and its details, runs into Regulus, who, not knowing it's James, offers his services with a teasing voice and alluring eyes. When he does recognize James, he immediately makes a run for it, leading to a 12 am cat and mouse chase between a sophisticated politician and riches to rags prostitute. Eventually, James corners Regulus, but finds that he literally has no idea what to do so they just stand in an alleyway dead end in silence for a long time until:

"I won't talk if you don't talk."

"Deal."

James tries to take Regulus up on his earlier offer but both of them feel a little too weirded out after a small make-out session so James just sends him a stack of money and runs off. Should've been a done deal, right? Nope, James finds himself walking that same street a couple days later and sees Regulus again, it spirals into a long range of nightly hangouts where they would just sit on a bench and talk, without anything physical, and James would drop money in Regulus' hands and run off, repeat. The arrangement works for them nicely and is how they fall in love. Which is disastrous actually because then James avoids Regulus like a plague for a couple of days and during those couple of days, Regulus focuses his attention on clients who like James in some way. When they meet up again, it awkward asf but they kiss once and walk away with “Are we together???” In their heads.

-ore I cannot agree with the proposed hypothesis on swarm behavior amongst mer species. Too little is known of how the frequencies of the sounds tentatively dubbed as “siren song” affect the human nervous system. And nothing at all suggests that mer are similarly affected by this frequency as humans.

Lamentations therefore seem to be an occurrence not only dictated by the sirens themselves, but also by the various congregating mer species that may gather at the site without attacking one another, despite being natural enemies.

i am as guilty as everyone else of mainly writing soft!price as both landscape and birdsongs were soooooo soft. need to fix that one day.

unfortunately price is so much fun to write as a soft caregiver and i occasionally find myself turned off when he's toooooooo dark. i personally need just the right balance between caregiver leader and gruff, no-nonsense authority figure. there's a sweet spot there where price seems like a kind, honest guy, but also thinks he knows better than you so just completely ignores your protests and does what he thinks is right.
