ship discourse is unserious but the "who would treat fiddleford better" arguments on tumblr are crazy to me because have we all forgotten nuance? anyways here's a relationship analysis:

fiddauthor has its own unhealthy aspects because ford not only tunnel-visioned on his research to the point of dismissing fiddleford, he was also being actively isolated by his abuser (bill), who was turning the two against each other. and, at the same time, fiddleford was actively lying to ford about the memory gun, then used it on ford, a complete violation of trust. in alex hirsch's own words, fiddleford was like a yes-man to ford (until he wasnt), to the detriment of both of them.

but also they found solace in each other, as two outcasts with similar interests. even if ford could be dismissive at times with his gifts, its so clear that he valued fiddleford as his one friend, that they found so much enjoyment in each other's company in both college and in gravity falls. and ignoring that is doing them both a disservice! none of the hurt they inflicted on each other was done out of malice; they were being slowly broken down by the environment around them.

fiddlestan is more difficult to dissect for obvious reasons but comparing stan's past failed relationships to a hypothetical one with fiddleford is a moot point. we're working with a vastly different scenario here. stan would need fiddleford to stay in his desperation to save ford, and fiddleford could be easily guilt-tripped despite his trauma. would stan be an asshole to fiddleford? yeah, he would probably grow impatient with fiddleford's anxiety, and they would have very clashing personalities and interests, along with bad trust issues. fiddleford would be very reliant on the memory gun at this point, and they both would be at their mental lowest: it would not be an easy or healthy relationship.

but at the same time, it's not difficult to see how two very broken people could find solace in each other, especially due to a shared grief. its a unique situation that only they could understand, so of course it would make sense that fiddleford's desire to fix vs stan's abandonment issues would lead to something, for better or for worse. at the end of the day, they both understand the broken bonds of family and they both want to feel needed. it's not farfetched to speculate that they'd find comfort in each other.

anyways. i love these three very flawed, very hurt, and very human individuals. i think they're capable of causing each other a lot of pain. they do cause each other a lot of pain. but also they grow and they heal, and it pains me to see people reduce them to their singular actions. (but also the jokes are funny so yknow...i get it carry on)

I guess I will put another warning here, a few more swear words, and honestly, probably a lot more in future chapters. Duke, Jason, and Danny just feed off each other's gremlin tendencies (mine too). This is not a 'get along like a house on fire'. This is a forest fire. These three in a crack fic of pure younger sibling energy went a wee bit out of hand, and I feel sorry for what they are putting Babs and Dick through.... Not sorry enough since I am still writing it and giggling like a school girl, but I empathize.

“Heeeeeyyyy, Oracle. I have some good, interesting, and bad news.” Jason asked Barbara as soon as she picked up.

“Hood, I swear to every god on this planet, It better be a big emergency, I just got to sleep.”

Jason winced. “Sorry O, good news, I found Danny-”

“Where, is he ok?”

“Calm down Barbie, he is…. mostly fine.”

“Hood”

“Interesting news, we need a magic user. Bad news, it’s a Constantine question.”

The sound of the static from the phone was the only thing that proved that she did not hang up on them.

“Hood, for everything holy, Explain.”

“The Batmobile started acting weird after the other night when B had to come back early because of his bad concussion and broken ribs. Don't let him downplay it, I saw A’s report. Anyway, it was acting weird, so I looked into it and ta-da. It seems like the missing street kid is possessing the car.” Duke quickly explained.

“What is our lives-” Barbara whispered just loud enough to be picked up. “Ok, since we now know more information, I will call Zatanna and Constantine. Unfortunately, they are on some sort of mission that is scheduled to be done in a few days. Can I trust you two to keep Danny safe? Has anyone told B yet?”

“Fuck B, he didn't notice and dropped this on Signal, benched him even, like it was his fault!” Hood argued. “Besides, he doesn't get to adopt this one-”

“Are you volunteering then?” Barbara snarked.

“Fuck off, no, B does not need another kid.”

“We can all pretty much agree on that.” Duke muttered.

“How did you figure out it was Danny anyway?” Barbara asked, changing the subject.

“I downloaded all of RR's PowerPoint sound files into the Batmobile’s radio storage.” Duke said proudly. “We were able to somewhat communicate, but Hood was the one that got the Danny connection going.”

“Ok, so what do we want to do until the magic users respond?” Jason asked.

“All we can do is keep it on the down low. Keep Danny safe in the cave, and hope that Constantine doesn't go on one of his after mission benders for a week.” Barbara sighed out. “So, I know this is a very hard ask, but stay out of trouble while I get some sleep.”

“Ya, ya, Barbie, I will keep the gremlins in line.” Jason said as he hung up the phone.

the immersion! if you reached to the very back of my memory there'd be like ten folk songs there and this one, which we used to have to sing at 7:00 in the morning on choir retreats while doing squats for all the weekdays, would definitely be there. it's a silly ditty you've heard somehow exclusively in childhood, it's a little game song for children. If all else was tainted by your later life that song would probably survive, it's perfect

what constitutes being a monster in spn is so deeply interesting bc so much of the show is used to argue that monstrosity is not about what you are but what you do. And that you can always be a better person, your monstrous traits aren’t necessarily actually monstrous.

but as the show goes on we learn that this is only true if dean deems you human. So sams monstrous traits must be buried deep and thrown out in order for him to be good. Sams monstrous friends are inherently evil bc dean says so. Deans monstrous friends are fine though, of course.

I’m just eternally wishing for a version of this show where sams abilities are so deeply ingrained in him that he can’t ever get rid of them. And he’s allowed to be a hero regardless. Give me a season 5 where sams eyes randomly go yellow. Or he has to deal with demon traps or he needs to control his emotions bc anger from him can be literally explosive, but regardless of all of this he still shows dean more compassion than dean ever leant to him in season 4. And regardless of all this he still beats the devil.

thinking about moon knight having marc call steven the best superpower he's ever had during a really emotional moment and how that show handled DID better than just about any piece of media I've ever seen and. I'm sobbing actually. they equated his neurodivergence with being the greatest part of him after marc had spent so long trying to hide his DID out of shame. and maybe that sounds like bordering on glorification but it really wasn't. because they made it so obvious that what marc meant was that steven kept him ALIVE and that's the most he could ever ask for and anyway. whatever whatever it's fine

i understand that this is just the unfortunate expirence of mid 1990s writing but waking moments is genuinely such an insane episode. and like not the premise or anything the plots fine but how the frame Harry's nightmare is so 90s it's mind numbing. like okay I know they were going for scared plus horny and awkward at romance kinda thing. but all the ended up doing is having a character, Harry, who canonically struggles asserting boundaries and almost painfully bends over backwards to please people, who is also canonically afraid of Seven at this point, because you know he's been physically assaulted by her in the past, have a nightmare where Seven, a character who struggles to respect peoples boundaries, who has already made sexually charged comments towards Harry which made him uncomfortable, force herself onto him in dream space. And this nightmare is so horrific to Harry it literally traps him in nightmare land.

And then every character proceeds to joke about it right, which crazy but very 90s, but let's say it wasn't written to be a nightmare and the only reason Harry screamed in the middle of his snork mimimis was because of the alien just appearing there— then why was Harry the only one to have a normal dream and everyone else had a nightmare that hit such a deep, personal fear of theres? so it's like got to be a nightmare which means Harry's nightmare scenario is being kissed by Seven and feeling like he can't say no, oh and by the way she literally says "resistance is futile" before pushing him up against the wall. and this is like one of the last episodes that explores Harry's crush on her. who wrote this

Oh yeah the peak sexual tension of a dude not even calling you his friend and regifting something customed for another person, the incredible enemies to lovers story of ignoring and abounding in indifference a man making him suffer by ... *Reads lulu fan post*... wanting to be with another man, bringing angst...?
