it drives me insane because i'll be honest, i started researching lando in order to write carlando or norstappen fanfic. i wanted to know why he behaves the way he does to have him be in character, and i wanted to capture his cadence and diction for dialogue. i did not start out for nortrell. I didn't even fucking know about it. i was aware of quadrant, but i didn't know that one of the members was simply different to the others. genuinely this dive into lando's history has felt more like the discovery of max fewtrell, because max IS lando's private story, where he comes from, where he goes whenever he can. max holds lando's private self in his hands and he keeps it safe, and in return lando gave and keeps giving him everything, arranging a whole life for him, one built to show him off. people can easily see the devotion max has for lando, the affection and care he offers openly, but it's not one way only.

i didn't know before that lando caught max when max's whole life fell apart, when he lost his whole identity and future (this happened to me at the same age), and experienced depression (which i share). lando was there to take care of him, in a way that makes me ache with tenderness. i have never shipped childhood friends before, ever, nothing this sweet, but the ship simply emerged from the lore and demanded it be shipped. i've said it before but it's like lando's actually not just a planet, he's a planet with a moon, and if you just see the planet without understanding the entire system, you're missing out on something essential, the way the tides move on the surface, the flow of lando's emotional ocean. there's platonic, romantic, and erotic energy binding them together, love in all its forms, and you can definitely minimize the romantic to write fic for him with others, but max still has to be inside lando like a matryoshka doll in order for lando to really be lando, you know?

idk man their bond is just beautiful and sexy and meaningful to the degree it literally drove me to actually write rpf for the first time, not just think about it. i will never get over the fact that i found it when i wasn't looking for it, stumbling over it when it's something rare and precious. lando and the love (platonic or romantic or whatever) of his life. i'll never be able to unsee it, and i don't want to, it's everything to me now lmao

rio obviously had a little crown matching her own made for nicky

rio calls nicky "mijo", nicky calls rio "mami"

when rio is home, she and nicky spend all their time outside where rio teaches nicky all she knows about nature

when rio brings people to the afterlife, nicky will often excitedly meet her at the end of the bridge, telling her about his day

he's especially good at welcoming other children who are scared—he will take them by their hand and echo all the things rio has told him about life and death being a circle as he brings them to their destination with rio walking two steps behind them, beaming with pride but also ridden with unwarranted guilt that she gets to experience their son's beautiful personality every day and agatha doesn't

as rio brought alice to the afterlife, nicky jumped out at them, wearing a plague doctor mask, trying to scare them and rio said "excuse my son, as you can tell, he got all of my looks but all of agatha's personality"

actually scratch that, rio refuses to acknowledge that nicky is a carbon copy of her, completely blinded by all the parts of agatha she sees in him

rio has never badmouthed agatha to nicky—on the contrary, every time she comes home to nicky without agatha and sees the disappointment in his eyes, she makes sure to tell him that the only reason a witch as magnificent as agatha would even consider death an option is to be reunited with him and that she will try to do a better job bringing her back with her next time

but rios anger with agatha is also directly proportional to the amount of excuses she has made to nicky as to why agatha keeps avoiding death—and with that, nicky—so vehemently

rio sees nicky as the only good thing that has ever come of her. she's so used to people lamenting her existence—even agatha ended up getting hurt by the nature of her existence—so in rio's mind, nicky is the only thing of her making, her being, that has caused unbridled joy and love and happiness and she would put him before anyone else—EVEN agatha

which is why agatha "choosing" billy over nicky at the end of aaa has really good story arc potential for s2 because while rio will absolutely sit back and take everything agatha hurls at her, she would never forgive her son being betrayed (watch your back billy maximoff 🙃)

aaa thanks sm!! they are definitely the one I'm most proud of, it took a while for me to settle on a design I liked!

as you can see I limited myself to vintage toys, so their torso is comprised of a jack in the box, a slinky and a spinning top, their arms are that of a bendy toy and of a lilliput robot, and their legs are attached and they can be wheeled around like those wooden horses with a pull string!

they can swap out parts, but I haven't rly decided on alternate looks just yet

this was another idea for the parts on their head lol

winter wonderland zooble is a bit more confident since they live alongside other ppl w mixed up parts, but they're not very into the festivities/large holiday gatherings lol
