Steve indulges you every now and then with old movies. You're obsessed with those musical movies from the fifties, soft colours, cool cat leading men and blunt heroines. Your very favourite are the ones with love triangles, though Steve hasn't ever thought you'd like to be entangled in one yourself. 

Entangled in him, absolutely. "That is ridiculous," you say softly, sitting entirely in his lap, an arm around his neck and another his waist. "She loves him." 

"She does." When the heroine of Young At Heart realised one of her love interests didn't have a present for the birthday party they were going to attend together, she bought one for him so he wouldn't feel embarrassed —yet she's planning on marrying the other man. "Poor Frank. He looks shocked." 

"I'd be shocked. Lucky me, you've never sprung a sudden engagement on me," you say, your fingers rubbing mindlessly into his side. Your affection is often thoughtless. You care for him like another must-do, in time and rhythm with your breathing. 

"To another girl, you mean?" he asks warmly. 

You fluster and rub your cheek against the collar of his shirt, rolled and worn from an endless day on the couch together. He should go up and shower soon before bed, only you feel right in his lap, in no way light but a weight he's happy to bear.

You're skewed sideways, your legs laying across the rest of the couch, his legs kicked up on the coffee table. He keeps trying to force himself up for a shower and you keep leaning into his front or scratching your nails from his ribs to his hip, convincing him otherwise.

"If we ever… got engaged," you begin unsurely, eyes on the television to avoid his gaze, he's sure, "would we have a nice party like that?"

"Eleven point four." Your eyes soften with your smile. "What do you know about invitations?" 

"My mom had tons of stupid parties. She didn't always send out invitations, but when she did, she'd have them done right. I got to lick the envelopes."

You shift backwards so your weight is on the couch rather than Steve, your back to the armrest and your thighs over his legs rather than on top of him. Smiling as you are, Steve has to agree. 

"What were they like, the parties?" 

Steve bites the tip of his tongue. "Fine," he says eventually. "They were fine. His tone lightens toward the end, a put upon theatric for you to make it sound less snotty. 

"Did you wear a suit?" you ask. 

"Button down, usually."

"Nice! I bet you looked adorable. Do you have any photos?" 

"Honestly, baby?" Steve squeezes your leg. "I was miserable, then. You don't wanna see any photographs. I was never smiling."

"What?" 

"I hated my life. All my mom cared about was making us look like a perfect family, and all my dad cared about was work. I was happier when they started taking months-long business trips to Missouri."

"What do you mean?" you ask, putting your hand against his face. It's smaller than his but still big, still encompassing as you stroke his cheek and scratchy stubble. "You… what?"

He tells you because he knows you love him. It makes a hard thing easier, being loved. "Nothing, just, things were bad. My parents didn't even really like me, you know? They bounced me between little league and swim team and basketball when I was old enough. Track, cross country running, everything. Killer sun tan every summer." 

Any trace of a smile is gone from your face. "They didn't like you? What are you talking about?" 

"I was an annoying kid," he says. "You know how I was when we first met? Imagine that and worse." 

"There was nothing wrong with you when we first met." Your lip trembles. 

"Baby," he says quickly, on an exhale, the word half love and half apology, "don't be upset. I'm sorry, it wasn't as bad as it sounds. I'm making it sound worse than it was." 

Your eyes turn glassy. It's awful, being so close he can see the tears well, collecting in the corners of your eyes. You stroke his cheek tentatively and ignore them. 

"It was fine, sweetheart, really, I had everything. They'd leave me a fucking credit card when they went away, I never had to ask for anything. They gave me a car for my fifteenth birthday… I think they thought it was my sweet sixteen." 

Your face crumples like a wet paper towel. You try to fight it but you're a heavy crier and you always have been. It shocked Steve when you first met, how quickly you can fall into tears, but it doesn't necessarily mean you're extremely upset. He can maybe fix it before you give yourself a headache if he tries. 

"I'm sorry," he says again, dotting a kiss on the meat of your thumb. "I didn't tell you so you'd feel sorry for me." 

"I do feel sorry. I feel so sorry," you say quietly. 

"Don't cry…" Steve shifts into a better sitting position as the first tear trips over your waterline. Your hand falls to his collar. Your fingertips rub his collarbone. "I was lucky, I had everything I needed." 

"You just told me your parents didn't like you, Stevie, I wouldn't call you lucky. That they went away for months– How old were you?" 

He winces. "Fifteen?" 

"You were still a kid." 

"I was old before my time." 

"No, you weren't." You sniffle. "I didn't know about that, Stevie. I didn't know about any of this, I'm so sorry."

"Why are you sorry? I never told you." 

You bring both hands up now, placed gently against his chest, talking to him with a tenderness that makes his body ache, "If you think that it didn't matter, I'm really sorry. Imagining you that young, sitting there thinking they didn't like you? That breaks my heart." You're not overly dramatic despite the tears, but you say it with conviction. "You're not supposed to feel that way." 

Steve laughs quietly. "I know that, dummy. Why're you this upset about this? It was years ago." 

"Because it happened to you," you say, pouting at him sympathetically. "I don't know. I guess I figure how heavy that must be carrying around this whole time, thinking they didn't like you and that it was your fault." 

Steve tries to say something, his mouth dry as sand, but he supposes he had said that, in a way. It is what he thought, what he thinks. If he were better, if he were more interesting, more attractive, more talented, they'd stick around. He pushed himself in every sport they'd let him play hoping he'd see his dad standing in the bleachers one day. 

"You're not annoying," you say, wiping your tears. You square your expression into a steadier set. "You're amazing. If they couldn't see it then and if they refuse to see it now, that isn't something you did, Stevie. Maybe they gave you a car and an Amex card, but what you deserved most was–" Your determination to calm down wanes as your voice turns airy and scratchy, like you're trying not to sob. "You deserved to feel cared about. 'N' I'm sorry you didn't, because I love you more than anything."

Steve pulls you in for a hug. Mostly because you need one, but it doesn't hurt to hide his face from you know. His eyes burn, his heart pounding in his throat and between his ears as his arms climb up the length of your back. He focuses on that, the feeling of his hands and his bare forearms against your soft shirt. His chin goes over your shoulder and he presses the side of his head to yours with more force than he intends. 

"Don't wind yourself up over it," he murmurs. "I know it sucks, I promise I get it, and I love that you're sorry, I love you, but it's not worth crying over. They're not worth it." 

You tuck your arms behind his shoulder. Steve indulges in your smell, the warmth of your closeness. Talking about his parents is like poking at a purple scar. It's healed for the most part, but it's far from invisible. He usually ignores it all. 

"Is it weird that I'm kind of vindicated by your, uh, reaction?" he asks under his breath, as though someone might hear him and call him out for it. "I don't want you to cry, but…" 

"I'm in your corner." You pull him impossibly closer. "I'll always be upset for you. Even if you don't think it matters anymore, that's the kind of stuff that stays with you, you know?" You kiss his hair. Twice. A third time. "Sorry, I know I always make stuff about me, crying 'n' all." 

"That's not true," he murmurs, rubbing your back. 

He hates that you're crying, but he's glad, too. Glad all that pain isn't made up. Your reaction is proof he didn't just imagine how much it hurt to always want something he couldn't quite grasp. 

"You didn't deserve that," you say. 

"I know." 

"I love you." 

He knows that too. "I love you. You gotta stop crying, okay? You need your tears for the end of the movie when he crashes his car. How are you gonna bawl your eyes out for Sinatra if you've wasted them all on me?" 

You laugh wetly. "I think I've made a wet patch in your hair." 

Steve relaxes, reassured at the sound of your laugh, precious as spun silver even doused in waterworks. "That's cool. I needed a shower anyway."

And then slowly the lore reveals itself to be like "ARCHIMEDES' CAT SUCCESSFULLY INVENTED LAZER BEAMS ERGO THE ROMANS NEVER STARTED A CONQUEST OF NORTHERN EUROPE"

Im just incredibly fond of lore that looks basic when you're first introduced to it, slowly drops wilder and wilder shit, and refuses to ever engage with it lmaooo

Lots more name changes, more honor titles, etc

I would start tossing in OCs. I like the limitation I work with right now, it's a fun challenge, but I would be padding out allegiances significantly

Populations would get bigger, with more emphasis on Family rather than Individual. I would begin to give major bloodlines their own insignias.

Identifying with these insignias would be something cats grapple with. Everyone in Tigerstar's family, for example, would consider if they want to jump into their mate's families and modify their insignias or wear them with pride

A lot more would go into "aesthetic" production. Flax, leather, the fashion styles between the different Clans.

I'd mess around with more altars and hidden places where various cats go to worship.

For example I would LOVE to have a "dark library" which contains a lot of Ripplestar's strategies and battle plans, buried in the bog, that Runningnose uncovers through his channeling and Brokenstar goes to learn from

More magic stuff in general, a lot of it going back to Hollyleaf's Century. More types of curses and monsters, some of them just kinda showing up at times.

The ecology of Albion would be a bit wilder. Feral cattle, wild dogs, and horses, nothing too drastic.

Researchers would remain I love those guys. Might make some special "field guides" which are humorous journal entries and such. Occasionally they drop hints at the iceberg lore like, "this reminds me of the Great Egg Scramble of '24."

They'd mention some of the magic stuff and explain that humans have had a hard time researching it scientifically. Like Quantum Physics it doesn't like to work the same way when you observe it directly.

One of their specialists has a PHD in Alchemy or something like that

SkyClan would do a LOT more in the suburbs. Like, I would explicitly start working suburban foraging into their culture instead of just the occasional stealing they do.

A completely unnecessary analysis of the flowers surrounding Bag End: sunflowers, snapdragons, and asters.

I got this idea after reading a ton of adorable Sam and Frodo fanfic involving the language of flowers and getting a little obsessed with floriculture. I went on a hunt to find any flowers that were actually mentioned in the books and found this very small passage in chapter 1 of Fotr, describing the flowers surrounding the outside walls and windows of Bilbo and Frodo’s home. so I took the different meanings and symbolisms of the three flowers mentioned, and found fun ways to relate them to either the story or the characters. Please enjoy this unhinged interpretation that absolutely nobody asked for!!

Starting off with the sunflower! These mean, undying loyalty and adoration. This symbolism originates from the Greek myth of the nymph Clytie, and her unrequited love for the sun god Apollo. When she realized her feelings would never be reciprocated she spent several days not eating or drinking, following the path of Apollo’s sun chariot across the sky, until she eventually turned herself into a sunflower, perpetually facing the direction of the sun and waiting patiently for Apollo to return to her. Alternatively sunflowers can also mean everlasting, specifically everlasting friendship, and obviously joy and happiness. Their symbolism at Bag End is particularly precious with the theory that Sam planted these flowers. I love the idea of him using these to declare his undying devotion to Frodo even if Frodo doesn’t notice it! It’s giving you want me and you just don’t know it yet. But if that’s not your cup of tea, then these could also symbolize devotion to the Baggins’s, Sam’s lasting friendship for both Bilbo and Frodo, or just good vibes. 💖

Next are snapdragons, which I think have the coolest symbolism! They can mean two things, either grace or deception, but the exact meanings are very specific. Snaps can thrive under really harsh conditions, they can grow in cramped rocky areas and survive in subfreezing temperatures, so they specifically symbolize grace under pressure or in difficult situations. And while they do mean deception in the language of flowers, they’re mostly used as an apology flower for deceptive behavior, or used as protections against it. During the medieval period which is roughly the timeline Lotr was set in, these flowers were seen as guardians against evil forces and were typically planted by gates and around wealthy residences like Bag End. I freaking love the idea of these flowers being symbolic of the bravery and perseverance of the Baggins’s, but it might be more likely that either Bilbo or one of the Gamgees knew about their protective qualities and either the gardeners planted them out of reverence, or Bilbo sweetly chose these for Frodo’s protection.

And lastly Asters! These were my personal favorite to research and play around with because they mean so many different things and literally have the perfect backstory. Asters got their name from the Greek word Astrea, which was also the name of the Greek goddess of innocence and justice who created them in myth. The most popular version of this myth is that Astrea was so distraught over the lack of stars in the sky, when her tears fell to earth they created the star shaped aster flowers. Shortly afterwards, she herself fled into the sky and became the constellation of Virgo. Virgo is, of course, Bilbo and Frodo’s star signs, and the Astor is an official September flower. These flowers symbolize faith and valor, but in the language of flowers they symbolize innocent love and undying affection. I am choosing to believe these were planted by Sam on purpose, purely because of their meaning, but there’s one more piece of backstory that literally connects these flowers straight back to him. Asters were also an emblem of Venus, the Roman goddess of love, and her planet is the ruling planet of taurus, which just so happens to be Sam’s star sign! *loses shit*

This was a little longer than I thought it would be, but I hope someone finds this as adorable as I did :-) PS, I don’t actually think Tolkien meant anything buy these super random flowers and same goes for the character of Sam, this was one sentence in the beginning of the book that I took way too far lol! There are definitely stashes of demigod resources! most of the stock is in the Batcave, but they definitely have stashes in all the safehouses. They're basically like any other resource- medical supplies, celestial bronze dagger, batarangs, smoke pellets, ambrosia, etc. Considering that celestial bronze and nectar/ambrosia are pretty rare, i doubt they're using them daily, but everyone definitely has emergency demigod equipment on them. I'm also making Gotham a Land Beyond Gods, a la Alaska in SoN, so there's less of a monster problem than other cities. Gotham kinda like the trash dump of the demigod world- all the weird fucked up stuff ends up there for our intrepid heroes to get chased by.

Most of the Batkids are aware of who they are, eventually! Bruce, Cass, and Damian always know, Dick and Jason figure it out pretty quickly after living with Bruce, Tim figures it out himself before becoming Robin, and Steph only figures it out after she "dies" (poor guy). Bruce isn't very good with the Mist, and monsters aren't like, a huge problem in Gotham, so it's not really a big deal to them if they are/aren't demigods. Babs kept up just fine as a mortal, after all. Like i said earlier, ambrosia/nectar are in short supply in Gotham (bruce doesn't really have a consistent way of getting more besides through diana, who also doesnt really have a consistent way of getting more), so nobody's eating any by accident.

I have literally no idea what's going on with Alfred. I joked a while back that he's a minor god, which I'm not opposed to, I'd just have to work that one out a bit more. The satyr idea is fun and works really well, except imagining Alfred with goat legs and eating aluminum cans freaks me out and I don't know what to do about that. He could also just be a mortal blessed by [insert god here] to have a longer lifespan, or someone who made a deal with [insert god here] to be alive as long as Bruce/the Wayne family needs him. It'll be interesting to figure out, whenever I end up doing that!

Bruce and Co. are NOT aware of the other pantheons! As in, they are so unaware of the other pantheons that nobody can figure out who the fuck Tim's godly parent is. Bellona is on nobody's radar, everyone is split between Ares/Dionysus/Athena/????. They also haven't figured out he's a Zeus legacy, because his ancestor fled to Gotham during WW2 and then did their best to hide their heritage for their and their kids' safety. Poor guy doesn't know what the fuck is going on, basically. Bruce is actually pretty cut off from CHB, so he's not super up-to-date about the demigod world. He tends to focus more on the superhero side of things. His kids have varying levels of interest/affiliation with the demigods, but they're definitely not on the "first to know" end of news whenever things happen. It takes a hot minute for anyone to figure out the Romans exist, and considering that Percy and Annabeth try pretty hard to conceal the Egyptian and presumably Norse pantheons, we can assume the Batfam isn't aware of those guys for quite a bit after the Greeks learn about them.

He specifically loves using charcoal as his drawing material!

His dad used to take him out for walks and they’d draw some scenery together

His mother was the one to teach him calligraphy

Doing either of these two crafts helps him feel close to his parents again

So he’s grown to love the smell of the ink and charcoal on paper

Sometimes he gets so into his work that his nails and fingers turn black by the time he stops

His brothers can tease him all they want, but he doesn’t mind it at all

He used to get much dirtier as a child when he worked on his crafts

So having the ink and charcoal permeate his skin in both appearance and smell gives him a sense of pride

It’s a very sweet, clean smelling fragrance that he makes absolutely sure to buy every 6 months

So based off all that you’d assume he always smells nice right???

Well…not exactly

First off, he is a vampire now and he does drink blood sometimes

But he doesn’t even smell like blood because of his vampiric nature

He just claims that’s why he sometimes smells like blood because the real reason is kinda embarrassing

So he’s an idol right? Part of his job is to sign stacks and stacks of autographs

He’s gotten so many paper cuts that he just starts wearing gloves

He has very delicate skin for a vampire, not as delicate as someone else on this list but we’ll get to him

He also smells like cats

He just really likes them so sometimes he just goes to cat cafes and plays with them

He also brings in strays and takes care of them

He won’t force them to stay if they don’t want to but 9 time outta 10 they stay so he just kinda smells like his feline friends

This dude also smells of his favorite food, Vongole Bianco

If left unsupervised, he will eat 5 plates of the stuff and he will smell of the pasta dish for weeks

Not in a bad way, he’ll just smell like he recently has dinner XD

@magnificentkidclamclod and I also came to the conclusion that once in a blue moon, this man will smell like French fries

Why and why’s it so rare?

Well for one, he’s just a big fan of McDonald’s French fries as well as their sprite so he will get it every chance he gets

Now as for why he rarely has it, it’s because of his manager and Ruki

As an idol he’s expected to maintain a certain weight and figure so he’s been told not to eat fast food

When his manager catches him he’ll just scold him and give him a slap on the wrist

But if Ruki catches him…it’s on sight

If Ruki even catches a whiff of fries on Kou, he’s running at him at full speed with what we blunt object happens to be close by

Unfortunately for the other 3 brothers, Ruki is a bit of a health nut and bans fast food from the house

Kou suffers the most and Azusa is the only one who helps him sneak contraband into the house

Yuma is true neutral on this tbh

He has a garden so he doesn’t care 🤣

Kou and Azusa will share fries every weekend at the mall followed up by a trip to the spa to get rid of the smell

Man is a farmer to his very core!

Doesn’t matter if he’s human or vampire, he’s gonna be up at 4 in the morning tending to every single one of his crops

And his scent always reminds everyone of this

He smells of the earth he tends to every day

He smells of the sweat of hard days works

And he smells of the fruits and veggies he tends and harvests

This giant bear of a man is the poster child of a rugged country boy 🤠

He also smells pretty sweet!

He eats sugar cubes so often that everyone’s amazed he hasn’t gotten diabetes yet

He also smells of fennel and neem oil

Those are really good, natural bug repellents

He’ll eat the fennel to keep the mosquitoes off him

He doesn’t need to cuz mosquitoes tend to avoid vampires but he did this a lot when he was human and old habits die hard

He sprays neem oil on and around his crops to keep pests away

All of these smells permeate into his being and set the gold standard of what your big, strong country boy should smell like

There is one thing that kinda weirds humans out though

He smells a tad like blood

It’s no where near as bad as the Sakamakis or the Taukinamis

But it’s juuuuust strong enough that sometimes his classmates will stop and ask him if he’s feeling ok

Thankfully his country boy aesthetic can save him from suspicion

Sometimes he’ll show them a cut he got from when he tried to clean the shattered remains of a pot and they’ll immediately drop the issue

Of course the dude who tends crops is gonna smell like blood! Hard physical work makes you bleed sometimes!

This one is the least human passing of the Mukami brothers and it’s not too hard to see why…

First off, he smells like the inside of a hospital morgue 💀

He smells like rubbing alcohol, bandages and blood

The strongest smell being the blood…

And here’s the thing

It’s his own blood that people are usually smelling

Yeah, sometimes it’s someone else’s blood

But 9 times outta 10 he smells like blood because he gave himself a few fresh cuts

And it’s usually a concerningly large amount of blood

He has the most delicate skin out of all his brothers

I’m also convinced he might have been anemic when he was human and maybe even still is

So combine all that and Azusa is basically a gusher

Thankfully he always has bandages on him

Unfortunately he doesn’t do much to cover up the bloody smell…

He does like spicy food so he tends to eat quite a bit of curry

So he does smell like curry powder sometimes

He also smells like his favorite food, Shichimi Togarashi

It’s basically like a seaweed mix

But it’s not enough to change very the weird bloody hospital smell he permanently has on him

Ruki does use the “He has anemia” card to make people less suspicious…but then Azusa gives Ruki a heart attack

Hell ask people if they wanna cut him

That’s not exactly normal human behavior so his brothers will step in and prevent him from doing anything to blow their cover

He also just naturally smells like leather

It’s very subtle but it’s nice!

As stated in Kou’s second, he also smells of French fries

He really likes McDonald’s fries…when they’re cold…

It weirds Kou out but he’s getting fries with his lil bro so he does his best to ignore it

Some (Random and Useless) Facts about my KNY Hashira god! AU

Note: there’s only one fact per god, and maybe, just maybe, some about the shrine keepers and other entities-

Tengen doesn’t have a favorite number, and if he does, it’s always shifting. You could ask him any time, any day, and one day it might be 4, the next? 404,236. He thinks it’s flashy.

Giyuu often saves drowning people. He never thinks much of it, thinks it’s an “act of service and protection”, and he doesn’t like to see sufferers. That plays into it much more than he knows.

Sanemi likes to summon things to fight. There’s been occasions where other gods have walked into his domain to see a wind monster running rampant, and Sanemi beating the everloving hell out of it.

Shinobu literally cringes when people don’t take her medical advice seriously. It’s downright horrible to look at for her, and finds herself ready to lose it when they come back to her shrine saying “My lovely goddess, it has failed me, the knowledge you have bestowed upon my shoulders.”

Rengoku (tengen, muichiro, and giyuu alike), prefer being talked to casually, instead of fancy words. It seems more welcoming, and a simple “good morning! How are you?” Is always better than a “how have you been faring on this fine date, my lord?”

Mitsuri has tried to play matchmaker with some other gods between themselves, and has also tried to get some of the shrine keepers together, it doesn’t end like she planned-

Gyomei puts divine blessings on stray cats to keep them out of harm’s way, it honestly works really well. Tanjiro watched a boulder fall only 1/8 an inch from a cat, leaving it shocked but unharmed.

When it comes to Obanai, when people (or gods *cough*Giyuu*cough*) Piss him off, he uses a trademark insult: “If you sssay one more thing, I will kill you with my snakes and watch you die.” It’s super effective!

Muichiro forgets a ton of things, but in his domain there’s a special mist that makes you forget things slowly, until you leave. It confuses everyone when they forget what the mist does, though they know they’ve been there before.

Tanjiro has a scar over his right eye, though it doesn’t affect him at all. “Just like a decorative object.” He says. Apparently he got it from an accident as a kid.

Nezuko likes to be in the flower garden of the shrines, and will pick flowers for the shrines, to put down.

I’m curious how you’re going to write the Shiv and Lukas interactions in S4! How do you envision her and Shiv’s relationship to be? And with her brothers!

okay so... i don't want to spoil what i'm planning for the Shiv and Lukas side of things (with how that affects him and reader's relationship.) however, i will say a bit of angst will be brought up. and i think y'all are gonna love it lol ♡

for her relationship with Shiv, I imagine it to be a little bit strained. Shiv seems very competitive to me and i feel like she would be almost cold to her younger sister. like when they were young Shiv always picked on her to try and get all Logan's attention or something like that. i think they're closer now that everyone is an adult, but feelings still get hurt sometimes. reader definitely cares about all her siblings so so much and puts a ton of effort into all their relationships. much more effort than any of them put in.

i think reader is very close to Kendall, with their relationship being more like father-daughter than brother-sister. Logan didn't have a ton of time for his kids when they were growing up, and because of their age gap Ken was old enough to know better and step up to be that adult influence in reader's life. reader definitely loves her big bro a ton.

with Roman, i feel like reader know him very well but not as close as she is with Ken. like she has all his little mannerisms and tricks memorized, nothing he says really shocks her anymore. when they were growing up, Rome was away at military school so it was rare to see him. when they did see each other it was like a sleepover and everyone was super goofy. some of that silliness carries over to their current relationship, but Rome is also a little more open and emotional with reader than with his other siblings. maybe because he doesn't see her as a threat?

    I have always had a lot of stuff in my day: items and apartments, game consoles, books, DVDs, CDs, tons of stuff, animals, and even relationships; when I bought this stuff, I thought it would last, but it didn’t. These people and items didn’t last the moment. No matter how much I held on to the items or the people that were in my life, it still didn't last; it always slipped out of my hand. I could do everything in the world to make the people and the items stay but nothing stayed it all died or fade away, but I couldn’t get any of it to stay, nor could I get the animals that I lost not to die.

  No matter how well I fed the animals, they just still died because that’s life , even the CDs and DVDs I had, I always had the latest music and the newest movie, and it didn’t last; something new would become older, and what was once the #1 song is now old, so as I got older, I never anticipate things lasting and people staying because nothing last forever. No matter how much you try to keep everything in your life up to date, it will never stay because nothing lasts forever.

      But the Bible tells us in so many scriptures that his word lasts forever.

 •Isaiah 40:8: The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

•1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

•Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not.

       We can hold on to the fact that his word is truth, and when we read, it brings the truth to our lives, and the word says the truth will set us free. When we read and understand the word of God, our eyes become open for us to see who he is. We don't have to worry about him going away; we don’t have to worry about him leaving us ,because he won't, in his word, which is true, it says I will never leave you or forsake you.

 Every day, day in and day out, time is moving; things are changing, and the more we think we add protection to this and add warranty to that or add insurance to this or that it doesn’t make it last any longer,

   The truth is that the word of God has every opportunity to last in our life if we let it, and I say this because we must be the ones to allow it; some of us say “I am going to let this last”. “I am going to make this work”. “I will apply the word to my life.” Still, sometimes, when we add this or that to our life, when we add the truth of God to our life, it is difficult because everything we used to do wasn’t right for our walk with God , it won't fit, and the truth of God is design to remove anything that’s doesn’t align up with the word of God.

 2 Peter 1:16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we told you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

 This verse tells us we can no longer follow what doesn’t last. These different myths and fake religions don’t have any power like the power of Christ. We now know the truth of God, so we must walk in it; everything in between isn’t worth anything, and it isn’t worth the time to investigate or even to understand, but what we can do is take the time to understand God, take the time to hold on to him, take the time to be with him and understand that what we need to hang on to ,, time is running out ,and people are dying every day without genuinely trying to develop a relationship with God.

  Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

  Words are always spoken; people say what they will do and don’t do it ; they say with their words that they will stick true to walking the life of holiness , BUT look at the Israelites, they allowed the things here on earth to turn them away from the love of God to idols, and those idols didn’t last, but God words and his love will always last and be true. They couldn’t get that , our try to understand it they knew they could keep coming back but they didn’t stay , because they thought the idols that didn’t last could give them something they were missing .

When we continue to allow false doctrine to be spoken to us we become weak not strong , we have to understand nothing on earth can shield us , nothing on earth can protect us, but God can, he can protect us from all danger and harm, the truth of God can be our refuge but the things that God say is true and what he says have a track record of constantly coming to pass but the things here on earth what it gives never stay and never last.

  ***Today, we learned nothing lasts forever; we learned that the only thing that lasts is the truth of God. This week, we also learned that when we walk in the truth of God, we are walking in the light. We often lose our way because we allow the things of this world to crowd our time and ways. God is speaking to us friends about our lives; he’s saying to change from these man-made things and to hold on to him.

  We have spent our lives trying to make what’s here last, but we don’t have to do that with the word of God; we can hold on to the fact that whatever we read in the word of God will change us; it will build us up ,it will help us more than anything in this world , our riches can’t, our good looks can’t, who are family is can’t either, but when we hold on to God when we let him in to change us we gain more than we ever have in Our lives.

  We also learned about prayer this week and how powerful it can be when we are persistent with it; the problem is when God doesn’t move the way we won’t, we turn away; when we must stay and be persistent, we must apply the truth of God to our lives, and we must pray and believe that what he says in his word will come through. Still, when we turn away, we lose not God. Still, we do because we assume if we turn away, he has to do whatever we want, and he doesn’t! When they were first starting out as a petty thief, Janus had followed the news religiously. They’d needed to know if anyone was reporting their crimes, if their crimes were being connected together, if anyone realized that there was an illusionist terrorizing the city.  

They were perhaps a little arrogant back then, it wasn’t until Logan started sponsoring them and allowing them to pull off bigger and bigger jobs that the media actually took notice of their existence.  

After the accident, Logan dropped his civilian job as a sociology professor and took up selling his gadgets on the black-market full time, and when that hadn’t been enough, he’d taken up his own supervillain identity. Janus had returned to following the news religiously every time Logan went out as Dr. Frankenstein, terrified that he’d get himself hurt or captured — a fear that only grew stronger when the twins barreled into their lives.  

They’d spent years weaning themself off the habit, and they could now say they were perfectly comfortable relaxing at home while their associates were out on business.  

Today, for instance, they were stumbling their way through a “tea” party with Patton, content with the knowledge that Logan would return home safely before sundown.  

“Um, do you want some cake?” Patton, considering the pile of toy food — a birthday present courtesy of Remus — in front of him thoughtfully.  

“I would love some cake, thank you,” Janus replied. They could feel Virgil smirking at them, but they steadfastly ignored him (they broke into city hall last week and released tons of classified data onto the internet before kidnapping the mayor and abandoning him five miles outside of town without his phone for fun, Virgil should not be smirking at them like that!).  

“I want pizza!” Patton informed them as he placed the plastic pizza on his own plate. “You need something to drink,” he observed, handing Janus a plastic teacup.  

“Oh, thank you, is this tea?” 

“No!” Patton giggled as though the suggestion were absurd. “You drink coffee. I don’t drink coffee because I’m five!” 

“Ah, of course,” Janus chuckled. “How silly of me.” 

“Daddy needs coffee too!” Patton insisted, holding an empty cup out to Virgil.  

“Oh, do I?” Virgil asked as he walked over and took the cup from Patton. “Thank you, kiddo. How’s about I drink this while I make us some lunch with real food?” 

“Um, okay!” Patton agreed. “We can’t eat this food because it’s just pretend.” 

“Yeah, just pretend,” Virgil agreed, placing a kiss on the top of Patton’s curls. He also placed a kiss on Janus’s cheek before he headed to the kitchen, causing Janus to melt just a little bit the way they always did when Virgil casually expressed affection. “Are you staying for lunch, Jan?” 

Janus opened their mouth to confirm when the door of the apartment suddenly banged open.  

“JANUS!” 

“Jeez, Princey, what happened to knocking?” 

Roman, who had seemed almost manic when he’d burst in, blinked owlishly at Virgil for a moment before his words finally caught up to them, then they winced apologetically.  

“Sorry, Virge, I just–” they scanned the apartment before finally zeroing in on Janus. “I really need to speak to Janus about– uh, about business stuff.” 

Janus grimaced — whatever was important enough to be worth bursting into Virgil’s apartment must be pretty urgent — before standing.  

“I’m sorry, Pat, but we’re going to need to postpone our tea party.” 

“Oh, okay,” Patton visibly deflated.  

Unsure of what else to do, Janus leaned down and kissed the top of his head like Virgil had. In return, Patton wrapped his small arms around Janus’s legs.  

“Bye, Janus.” 

“I’ll see you later, Patton,” Janus promised.  

Virgil was frowning as Janus kissed him goodbye, but Janus couldn’t reassure him of anything — they didn’t know anything, and they certainly weren’t going to lie to Virgil just to make him feel better temporarily.  

As soon as the door closed behind them Roman dragged them down to Remus’s apartment. Inside was another Roman — the original Roman as evidenced by the fact that Janus’s Roman reabsorbed into him — and no less than three Remuses expressing various degrees of uneasiness. The original Roman and one of the Remuses had their eyes glued to the TV while a second Remus paced the floor and the third cleaned the kitchen compulsively. The TV was playing the news, which was showing footage of a collapsed building with the headline “Building Collapse During Supervillain Attack: Currently 1 Dead, 5 Injured” underneath it.  

The three supervillains watched as the news station continued to repeat the details they knew and report the new ones as they came out. Dr. Frankenstein had broken into a genetics lab earlier in the day; about half an hour later, the vigilante Sandman went in after him; most of the staff had been evacuated from the building, but a few had remained inside for one reason or another; footage showed Dr. Frankenstein jumping out a fifth-story window just moments before the first explosion happened; so far one employee had been found dead and two more were found injured; at least three civilians outside of the building had been injured either by the blasts or by debris.  

Two employees were confirmed dead, eight more injured. Six civilians outside the building were injured.  

Sandman was confirmed dead.  

Janus had trouble wrapping their mind around it. A genetics lab was right up Logan’s alley, and explosions weren’t uncommon for him, but destroying an entire building?  

Sure, Janus was a supervillain, and so were most of the people they were close to, but none of them were death-and-destruction take-over-the-world types. Knocking out a wall or busting through a window were one thing, but taking down a building with civilians inside was a completely other thing.  

While Logan had never been against taking lives if he had to, he’d never been one to kill people needlessly. Logan was efficient and calculating, this was rash and unnecessary! 

It wasn’t Logan. It couldn’t be Logan. Logan wouldn’t do this! 

Would he? 

It was a tense couple hours while they waited for Logan to return and explain his side of things.  

When Logan finally did come home, he seemed dazed. He blinked owlishly at Janus and the twins when they went to meet him in his lab, not quite seeing them.  

“What happened?” Janus demanded. Logan blinked again.  

“There was an explosion,” he stated blankly. His lack of reaction only agitated Janus further. 

“You blew up a building, Logan!” 

That seemed to snap Logan out of his daze. “I did no such thing!” He snapped.  

“Uh, buildings don’t just blow up on their own, Doctor Frank-N-Furter,” Remus pointed out. “That would be cool though.” 

“You killed Sandman, Logan!” Janus shouted. “Jesus Christ, she was seventeen!” 

“I KNOW THAT!” 

“Hey guys, maybe we should–” 

“Shut up, Roman!” Logan snapped. “I did not blow up that building. I did not do anything that could have resulted in the building blowing up. I–” Logan faltered, staring off into the distance before continuing quietly. “I have no idea what happened.” 

“Buildings don’t just explode,” Janus pointed out, pinching the bridge of their nose. They were developing a headache and this somewhat circuitous conversation was not helping.  

“I am aware of that, but the fact of the matter is: I did not cause the explosion!” 

“So, someone else blew up the building then?” Remus asked thoughtfully.  

“Why would someone else blow up a genetics lab?” Janus demanded, ignoring Remus completely.  

“Possibly to frame me for–” 

“Someone just happened to know you’d hit that genetics lab today?” Logan glared at Janus for interrupting him, Janus glared back.  

“While I understand that that seems unlikely,” Logan explained slowly. “That seems to be the most reasonable explanation.  

“That’s nowhere near reasonable!” 

“So you think that I killed her and am now lying to you about it?” Logan demanded.  

“Yes, actually!” Because why would some other villain frame Logan for this? How would anyone even know that Logan would hit that lab today of all days? 

“Guys seriously–” 

“SHUT UP ROMAN!” Logan and Janus both shouted before glaring at the other for daring to have the same thought.  

“Whatever,” Roman muttered. “Keep arguing in circles for all I care, I’m leaving.” 

The silence that followed in Roman’s wake was tense and palpable. Janus attempted to calm down, knowing that this conversation would be much easier if they all approached it with level heads, but they were too worked up. They’d promised Virgil that none of them would go after Sandman, and now they would need to tell him that she’d died during a battle with Dr. Frankenstein — assuming he hadn’t already heard in the few hours since they’d last seen him.  

It was Logan who eventually broke the silence, deflated and looking older than he ever had. “Get out. I have work to do.” 

“So you’re moving on just like that?” Janus seethed.  

“Yes,” Logan answered coldly. “Just like that. Get out.” 

“Fine!” Janus stormed out, vaguely aware of Remus trailing behind them. Their eye was twitching in irritation and all they wanted to do was go lay down in their room in the dark and hope this had all been a bad dream.  

But someone would need to tell Virgil, and Janus couldn’t let anyone else do it.

So one time I was having a tea party with my 4yo cousin and she gave me a cup. She’d already established that she was drinking milk so I asked if I was also drinking milk and she informed me that no, I was not drinking milk, I was drinking beer, and she couldn’t drink beer cuz she was 4. Which is hilarious to me, and mildly horrifying to her parents.

Virgil doesn’t strike me as a beer guy, and if Orin drank beer I don’t think Patton would associate it as something that favorable adults drank, so coffee

Anyway just to be clear, the next chapter I post will be chapter 25

Serious question: do you see Disco Elysium as copaganda because it humanizes cops, despite its brutal condemnation of police work? If so, how do you square that with disliking Succession, which does the absolute Most to critique capitalist structures while humanizing (but not endearing) its characters because, yes, even the worst of the worst are human? This isn't meant in bad faith, I'm genuinely curious!

this got long so i'm putting it under a cut

i've grappled with the question of "is disco elysium copaganda" and, like, no, obviously de isn't copaganda in terms of intent; it's obviously a clearsighted and intentional critique of the police and capital at large. (i've had the same thoughts about the discworld city watch books, another piece of cop media that i like a lot and whose creator by and large seemed like a decent guy, even if pratchett was less of a Hardline Marxist than the za/um folks.)

however, i do think de occupies a kind of uneasy position in the cultural landscape because while, yes, it would be pretty tough to play that game and come away from it being like "wow! cops are great!" a LOT of people came away from it being like "wow! kim kitsuragi so cool! i love hdb he's my little meow meow!" and, at least in some cases, i think it might well lead to those people developing a voice in their mind which is sympathetic to irl cops.

TO BE CLEAR, i don't mean disco elysium Made People Like Cops. i mean it might have made certain people, on an emotional level, without realizing it themselves, more inclined to judge the actions of irl cops somewhat more sympathetically.

that isn't to say that disco elysium has done more bad than it has good -- i genuinely don't believe it has. i just mean to illustrate that talking about this stuff is by necessity a double-edged sword. humans are naturally inclined towards sympathy, and by showing someone's perspective in the way that de or succession do you're priming the audience to, while not necessarily liking that person, at least attempting to understand them.

this is a little problematic especially in the context of succession -- in a television drama, especially one of succession's caliber, we expect intriguing and complicated character motivations. and so we get this web of familial loyalties and obligations and neuroses, while in real life i doubt most rich right-wing media people operate on motivations much more complex than "i want to make lots of money, and if i get [insert minority here] killed in the process that's just a bonus."

"even the worst of the worst are human" -- this kind of ties into the point i'm making. yes, of course, but do we need media that shows this? there are other ways to critique capital without giving the spotlight over to the worst of the worst. no matter how starkly the spotlight picks out their flaws, the spotlight is still on them.

again, i don't think it's like a moral ill to watch succession. i don't think it's a particularly bad show. it's fine! i'm not even trying to argue that it's doing more harm than good -- for all i know, it might have driven home the fact that capitalism bad to tons of viewers who hadn't already internalized that knowledge. i guess all i'm saying is it makes me feel weird when people reblog my joke textposts and tag it with "#this is sooo roman" or whatever.

so, to sum up: is de copaganda? nah, not really, BUT. is succession actually propaganda? nah, probably not, BUT. and the "but" in both those cases is "but, even if you're reasonably certain the media you are consuming wasn't created to actively manipulate you, it is still a good idea to always apply the wisdom of 'i am not immune to propaganda' and think about how it might be affecting your opinions and biases subconsciously"

hi! i cannot say i have read too much about brutus beyond the ancient sources, so i was wondering what your opinion is on him and specifically in relation to cassius? i saw your take about how cassius is often used to make brutus "look better," which i definitely have picked up on and is clear in the texts, although i was wondering if you have any posts you could direct me to, or could recommend anything in general that expands upon this idea? its really interesting, and i had not considered it very much before since i enjoyed the dynamic as it is presented

so as far as modern reception for Cassius goes, a lot of the opinion on him comes from three places: Shakespeare (and by extension, Plutarch, although Shakespeare does subvert popular characterizations of Cassius in JC) and Dante (or more accurately, a fuck ton of really complex renaissance scholarship around the republic/empire, including and largely focusing on, but not limited to: Dante’s placement of Brutus and Cassius in hell). To absolve Brutus of Cassius makes for interesting themes, but it kills the nuance of the fact that these men knew each other from childhood, and Cassius had effectively married into the house Junia. Shakespeare has Brutus see Caesar’s ghost, when the ancient source that records Caesar’s ghost has the ghost appear to Cassius. Ancient sources were pretty hostile to him as well, and even as close to his life as Augustan era writers, there was a tendency to sanitize Brutus at the expense of Cassius. It was acceptable to tolerate the memory of Brutus, but to do so, you had to push all of Brutus' harsher traits off to Cassius.

a lot of that contradicts aspects of Cassius as a person from the glimpses of him we can catch in those sources. In Plutarch's Life of Brutus, he laughs and jokes, his exchanges with Cicero are covered in affection while Cicero's own opinions of Brutus vary, and Messalla Corvinus was the one who stubbornly kept the memory of Cassius alive, despite his own closeness to Octavian's circle of friends. Titinius killed himself on Cassius death, calling himself a companion in Cassius' fate (valerius maximus 9.9.2).

Which isn't to say that he's without flaw, he is, along with literally every political figure out of ancient Rome, but instead it’s about that the fraction of information we have of him gets whittled down further to reinforce an image of Brutus that's unfaithful to his historical person, so both Brutus and Cassius suffer for it.

And I don’t have anything particularly against how popular tradition portrays them, or how a lot of people tend to enjoy their dynamic, since it’s less about them historically and more about

Chapter One

Chapter Fifteen:

Roman and Logan both loved the baked goods idea, which meant that after lunch the following day, once Patton got there with supplies and ingredients, they all headed into the kitchen to start baking.  Anxiety didn’t have a ton of experience and was kind of learning on the fly, but Patton had a ton of experience, which meant it didn’t feel terribly hard with such a good teacher.

Once they managed to get the blackberry peach cobbler baking, they all sat down with a fruit salad and what was left of Logan’s jam.  They hadn’t really planned on making much of a meal other than this, as according to Patton, you needed a day where you didn’t worry about health every now and then.  (And according to Logan, “I suppose the fruit salad is healthy enough,” said through gritted teeth while seeming to almost be in actual pain.)

They all chatted happily about various nothings as the cobbler baked, and Anxiety didn’t expect anything surprising to come from their conversation, until Roman leaned over and snatched Logan’s biscuit right out of his hand.

“Roman!” Logan called.  “That has my jam on it!”

“Oh, hush, make another one,” Roman teased, taking a bite out of it as Logan made an offended noise.

“I made that one,” Logan said in irritation, even though he was already reaching for another biscuit.  “Why do you insist on doing things like this?”

“Oh, Berry, you know you love me,” Roman said, beaming.  Anxiety melted a little inside, not that he was going to show that.

“That’s adorable,” he said.  “You call him—”  But for some reason, before he could actually say ‘Berry,’ his throat closed up, and he couldn’t get the word out.

Anxiety’s brow furrowed in confusion.  “Wait, why can’t I say—”  The same thing happened again.

“You’re not going to be able to say it,” Roman said, sounding surprised.  “At least, not to Logan.  It’s his Promise Name.  Haven’t we used them around you before?”

Anxiety blinked at him.  “What’s a Promise Name?”

All three of them turned to him in further surprise, and Anxiety suddenly got the feeling he was supposed to know that already.  “What?  I told you I don’t know anything about name magic.”

“I did assume you’d still know what a Promise Name was,” Logan said.  “But no matter, I suppose.  Promise Names are given in marriage.  They’re a name you create with your partner, that only they’re able to use.  They’re just another way to tie the both of you together, just like the handfasting cords.  Roman’s name for me is Berry, and my name for him is Prince.  I did tell you that what I know about name magic I know because of Roman.”

Anxiety raised an eyebrow.  “You guys gave each other magically binding pet names?” he said, trying to move past the slight pride that came with the realization of being right, that there were more than just two kinds of names.

“Well, it’s a little more complicated than that—” Logan started.

“Yes, that’s exactly what we did,” Roman said happily.  “But yeah, no one else can say Promise Names.  And you can feel it when your partner says yours to you.”  He leaned over against Logan’s shoulder with a grin on his face.  “It feels all warm and tingly,” he cooed.

Logan gave him a look that was almost amused, which of course just made Roman grin wider.  Logan scooted away from Roman and turned back down to add jam to his biscuit, which resulted in Roman giving a large offended gasp.  “But Berry, don’t you love me?” he whined.

“Maybe I’ll love you more if you stop stealing my biscuits,” Logan deadpanned.

Anxiety laughed, and then laughed harder when he saw Roman’s wounded face.  Patton giggled behind his hand next to him, and when Roman noticed everyone’s reactions, he huffed and sunk down in his seat.

“That’s the last time I have public displays of affection with you,” Roman said, sticking his tongue out at Logan to end his statement.

“I would prefer it being the last time you steal my biscuits,” Logan said, finally taking a bite of his.  “But I suppose refusing to acknowledge our marriage in public is a nice bonus, my Prince.”

Roman just ended up brightening at the use of the name, and Patton beamed from across the table.  “You two are adorable!” he called.  “Anxiety, aren’t they adorable?”

“Yeah, they’re something,” Anxiety said, rolling his eyes.  “How long do we need to wait before we check on the cobbler?”

His question seemed to remind Patton that the cobbler even existed, because he immediately jumped up and ran over to check on it.

“…Doesn’t he run a bakery as a job?” Anxiety asked in bafflement.

“Yes, we’re amazed he’s stayed open this long,” Logan said.  A second later he seemed to think of something, and looked at Anxiety more directly.  “You know, I should ask you about something.  Have you considered what you’re going to be doing when all of this is over?”

Anxiety’s blood ran cold.  “What— what do you mean?” he asked, doing his best to make sure his voice didn’t shake.  The whole reason he hadn’t wanted to get close to any of them was because he didn’t want to get hurt again, if they were still going to kick him out—

“I just mean that you’ve been living in survival mode for quite a while, and you haven’t seemed to develop many hobbies other than gardening,” Logan said, and Anxiety’s chest loosened.  It didn’t sound like being kicked out.  “I was wondering if there was something you wanted to go back to.”

“Or,” Roman said, and Anxiety glanced over at him.  “If you’d like, we could help you figure it out.”

Anxiety smiled in relief.  “Yeah?”

“Of course!” Roman called happily.  “Oh, do I get to give you a tour of the town?  I would absolutely love to show you around!  And Logan could teach you all about magic and stuff, and maybe you could work on getting your memories back!  Oh, and, and—”

“Okay, Roman, slow down,” Logan said.  “We don’t want to overwhelm him.”

Anxiety took a moment to be grateful that Logan stopped Roman before he could go much further, because that sounded like a lot.  But, at the same time, it also sounded… really nice.

“I think that would be good,” he said hesitantly.  “Just not all at once, okay?”

“You got it!” Roman called, giving Anxiety a thumbs up.

Patton headed back over the next second, now carrying a blackberry peach cobbler.  It certainly smelled amazing.  He cut each of them a piece and handed it off, and Anxiety took a bite.

“Oh, this is amazing,” Roman said happily around a bite.

“Geez, Roman, chew with your mouth closed,” Anxiety said.

“I’m sorry, I can’t hear you, I have to comment on how amazing his food is,” Roman said through another bite.

“You’re disgusting,” Anxiety said, holding his hands up in front of his face so he didn’t have to look at Roman.  Finally, he stopped talking with his mouth full and just ate the cobbler.

“Roman’s antics aside,” Logan said, raising an eyebrow at him.  “This is quite delicious.  Excellent job to both of you.”  He nodded at Patton and Anxiety.

“Oh, Logan, you helped too,” Patton said.

“Yes, but I believe your baking prowess and Anxiety’s skill with magic to grow the berries were far more beneficial in this situation,” Logan said.  “We would not be enjoying this otherwise.”

“I just don’t like you undermining your talents, mister,” Patton said, crossing his arms.  “But thank you.”

“Thanks, Lo,” Anxiety said quietly.

They ate the rest of the cobbler and biscuits and most of the fruit salad, and then Patton packed the rest of it up so they could all have some with breakfast tomorrow.

Not long after that, everyone got ready to go home for the night.  Thankfully, they would all be back tomorrow, since Patton didn’t have to run the bakery.  And that could possibly change further in the future, because apparently he was interviewing some people for potential assistants for the bakery.  For now, though, Anxiety gave them all a sendoff and headed into the library to grab a book and a candle.  He liked to read on the roof at night after everyone left.

When he got up there tonight, though, he was surprised to still hear voices, and headed towards the edge of the roof.  He peered over and saw Roman and Logan, and was about to call out to them when he heard what they were saying.

“Come on,” Roman said.  “Don’t act like I don’t know you, after we’ve been married for how long?  You’ve been bothered by something all day.  What is it?”

Oh, this was probably a private conversation.  He should go back inside until it was over—

“It’s Anxiety,” Logan said, and Anxiety stopped cold.

“What about Anxiety?  Has he done something?  I thought he was being nicer to everyone,” Roman said in confusion.

“What?  No, he hasn’t done anything wrong,” Logan said, and Anxiety let out a slow breath of relief.  “He’s… it…” Logan sounded uncharacteristically hesitant, and Anxiety was starting to get worried for him.

“No,” Logan said finally.  “I can’t.  I can’t tell you, Roman.”

“What?” Roman asked, sounding just as surprised as Anxiety felt.  “Since when is that how things work?  Logan, you’re my husband, you can tell me anything.  I can’t believe you don’t know that.”

“No, it’s not like that,” Logan said hurriedly.  “It’s not that I don’t trust you, my Prince.”

“Well then what is it?” Roman asked.  “Why can’t you tell me what you’re thinking?”

Logan was quiet for another moment.  Anxiety was pretty sure he looked down, but it was hard to tell from up above.  “Because I could be wrong, Roman,” he said, quietly enough that Anxiety barely heard it.

Roman didn’t say anything for a long moment, but finally, he reached forward and lifted Logan’s chin until they were eye to eye.  “Tell me anyway,” he said firmly.

“I…” Logan said hesitantly.  “I’m starting to think Anxiety might actually be—”

“Logan?  Roman?  Are you coming?”

Both of them, along with Anxiety, glanced towards the voice to see Patton waiting at the edge of the woods.

Logan looked back at Roman.  “I’ll tell you when we get home,” he said.

Roman nodded.  “Coming, Pat!” he called, and they both jogged off to catch up with Patton as Anxiety watched them go.

Anxiety might actually be what?  He moved to sit back down on one of the chairs he and Roman had put up here for stargazing.  I’m starting to think Anxiety might actually be a total waste of space?  I’m starting to think Anxiety might actually be the source of all our problems?  I’m starting to think Anxiety might actually be something created by It with no previous life to go back to?

Stop.  Breathe.

Anxiety leaned back in the chair and pulled his hood up over his head.  Logan sounded scared it was something he might be wrong about.  What was he scared of being wrong about involving him?

Anxiety took a shaky breath.  What if he had been about to say something like “I’m starting to think Anxiety might actually be thinking we care more about him than we do?”  What if he was going to have to deal with being thrown out all over again?  What if they’d decided he wasn’t as useful as they thought he was and they didn’t need him around anymore?  What if he hadn’t won them over as much as he’d tried to, or had wasted too much time in the beginning, or had blown it completely by being a jerk at first?

Anxiety buried his head in his knees.  Why were relationships so hard?  Why did he suck so much at them?  Why could he never seem to be able to tell whether or not people actually cared about him?

Anxiety shook his head harshly.  No.  Stop.  Breathe.

“You don’t know what he was about to say,” Anxiety said aloud to himself.  “Why would you assume it was negative?  Things don’t have to be like that this time.  This time can be different.  They can really care about you.  Really.”

He could ask Logan tomorrow what he meant.  Until then… he was going to read this book and stargaze and think about something else.

It probably wouldn’t work perfectly, but things not working perfectly seemed to be his life on a good day.  It would be fine.  It would be fine.

If he just repeated it to himself over and over he’d start to believe it, right?

Chapter Sixteen

Argh!!! Serious mood on the FNAF front. It's not even how buggy the game is, for me it's that whole issue with Scott Cawthon donating directly to Trump and McConnel! But I got mutuals who love the game and I don't wanna spoil their fun but also I cannot in good conscious even engage with any FNAF material. Which stinks because a ton of great art is being made by my mutuals that I can't touch!

I feel you buddy.... Apparently, Cawthon is also hectically transphobic as well.

Not to stereotype but his first games before FNAF were all children's bible games in a way that reminds me a lot of 'Joshua and the Promised Land'.

So I get the feeling he's one of those religious Americans who are very culturally stunted, with how he's been acting lately.

I don't mind reblogging cool art for FNAF because like most things when it comes to fanart, I tend to like the art first (which is why I will often reblog ship art despite not really shipping that many characters aside from Shepard and Garrus tbh). But I've never given Cawthon money and I sure as heck am not gonna start now 8'D

It's a frustrating situation, where you need to ask if separating art from the artist in this situation is irresponsible and you're still positively inforcing a product which gives its creator money, or if separating the art from the artist is alright since sometimes a fandom can be its own content creator.

Just look at the Danny Phandom for instance.

I think YMS on youtube said it best when discussing Roman Polanski. Watching Chinatown or Rosemary's Baby is not gonna affect Polanski that much and in that case the art is too important to worry about the temporary artist.... but also he'll never go watch a new Polanski film in theaters.
