Bruce, son of Athena: I named myself Batman because my worst fear as a child was bats. so i created the symbol of a bat to strike fear into the hearts of criminals so i may one day cleanse the streets of Gotham of all crime forever

Annabeth, daughter of Athena: okay but isn't the spider the worst fear of all children of athena?

Bruce: technically true. they are my number one fear. bats are number two. however i couldn't run around calling myself "spiderman". thats a stupid name

jason: son of athena. father unknown. was left on the streets of gotham and found by catherine todd, who convinced willis to take him in. athena considers jason to be wasted potential and gave up on him soon after he was abandoned

tim: child of athena. was gifted to jack and janet drake because she admired their intellect.

steph: daughter of hermes, raised by crystal brown

duke: son of apollo. one of the rare apollo children that can control light.

damian: son of hades. he’s raised as the heir of the LoA until talia is able to send him to CHB

[referencing how I decided who the Batfam's godly parents were in my PJO AU WIP]

People like to sort him into Athena because DC has spent the last few years emphasizing how smart he is and how he's better at the more “cerebral” and detective aspects of the job. But Tim’s most prominent pre-reboot traits are not actually his detective or tech skills: they’re his reckless, impulsive bravery, his ability to analyze and think very quickly on his feet in dangerous situations, and his "power of friendship" idealism.

He's a people person; it's one of his greatest strengths. Tim is like...physically incapable of going somewhere and not making at least one friend while he's there. Hell, when he ran off to travel the world on his "fuck you, I'll find Bruce on my own" trip he still managed to pick up his own little crew of assassin friends along the way. Making connections and talking to people and relying on others for help is how he successfully navigates being a hero, as he himself notes on multiple occasions:

"Did you think I was going to run all around the city, desperately trying to save everyone all by myself? I'm not Batman. I have friends." -Red Robin #12

Tim loves his family and friends, and losing so many people he's close to within such a small timespan sends him off the deep end in multiple ways (trying to clone Kon, fighting Dick to get the Lazarus water, isolating himself from everyone, fighting with Dick and running off to find proof that Bruce was alive on his own, etc).

At his core, Tim is an idealist who becomes a hero for no other reason than a) a broken man needs help and a broken family needs mending and b) if Dick won't go back to being Robin he might as well do it, because someone has to be Robin. He sees what will happen if Bruce stays on the path he's on and says "no. I'm not going to let that happen." He's a hero because someone has to help, and he's able and available to do so. He doesn't work on cold hard logic and facts. He works off of gut instinct and then uses his big brain to go find facts and logical conclusions that support those instincts.

Tim was never going to be an Athena child.

So I started thinking. At first, I wanted him to be a Hermes child; it seemed right to frame his parentage around being the child of the messenger of the gods given how he became Robin. But that's not really him, either. Apollo, within the scope of both classical mythology and the PJO-verse's depiction of him and his children, fits him better.

While modern culture tends to zero in a lot on Apollo's status as the god of music, poetry, and the arts (for good reason), Apollo in classical Greek mythology was first and foremost known as the god who (for lack of a better term) helps his people. He's the god of the sun, of light, of medicine and healing, of prophecy, of truth.

Tim comes into Bruce's life at a time when Bruce is at his absolute lowest point. Jason is dead. He's estranged from Dick. He's failing in his mission to save Gotham. He's highkey passively suicidal. And Tim takes it upon himself to fix that. And he does it by being a solid, bright, stable presence in Bruce's life and an extremely blunt, truthful messenger of the future he sees: Batman needs a Robin, and if Bruce doesn't have one he's going to die.

And I didn't abandon his intelligence in the calculations: Apollo is also the god of rational thinking, order, and knowledge, contrasting and working in harmony with Dionysus (the god of irrationality, chaos, and passion). He was also known to be the god whose job it was to interpret the will of Zeus to humankind, which I thought was appropriate for a boy who spends quite a lot of his time being the living communication translator between Bruce and everyone around him.

So. Apollo child.

............also I thought it was funny to make the god of youth the father of the boy DC refuses to allow to age.

BATFAM X PJO/HoO AU

Au where the batkids are half-bloods, Bruce isn’t but during his training he was taught how to see through the mist. Alfred can’t see through the mist either but he’s been around the block enough times to know about half-bloods and monsters. Damian also isn’t a half-blood and although he’ll never admit it, he’s EXTREMELY jealous of his siblings and their divine bloodlines. Which god should be each kid’s parent? My picks are:

Unrelatedly, is Barbara a mortal? Clearsighted? How does she find out about the demigod thing?

he would! tum just has to be not like other girls, that fucker. I'd argue with no basis other than vibes that a roman among greeks would be more like a cat adopted by dogs.

babs is a mortal! she's clearsighted, which is how she meets Bruce and Dick. I haven't totally fleshed out the situation but I imagine it would be along the lines of "what is that creature?" "you can see the hellhound? it's not attacking you? batman help" followed by Dick learning about the concept of clearsighted mortals. She has to do a bit of proving herself capable of keeping up with them at the start, which she Does Not Appreciate, but once she's in she's in. Babs is not the actual literal oracle, but Apollo does have twenty consecutive heart attacks upon learning the Oracle of Delphi is back and in Gotham (she isn't)

At work so sorry if this comes out a bit incoherent and any spelling mistakes but this idea is eating at my brain.

A crossover AU with Batman and PJO.

Essentially a 10-11 year old Percy Jackson ends up in Gotham with no memories. Only his name and a vague recollection that he did once have a family but nothing else. He is then found by Jason Todd who essentially takes him in. (He says it’s only until he can find the kid’s parents but let’s be real here).

Essentially there are many ways that Percy could end up in Gotham, but my idea (though somber) is that he died and somehow his humanity and divinity split in the process. So the Percy in Gotham is the human part and the divinity part ended up in the Underworld. That’s why it took so long for his friends to realize it.

ANYWAYS, the story would follow Jason trying to do his best to take care of this random kid while denying he’s getting attached and becoming like Bruce. The rest of the Batfam reactions range from ecstatic to down right confusion.

Bruce: Absolutely loves his new grandchild (bc yes Percy is already part of the family and Jason might be in denial but Bruce is already attached). He can also sees that no matters how much Jason denies it he’s became attached.

Alfred: Honestly isn’t too surprised. This was bound to happen with one of the kids.

Dick: Confused at first cause he thought Bruce took in another kid but it turns out to be Jason’s kid and that’s a lot for him to digest. But he loves Percy nonetheless even if the kid seems a bit cold to him.

Babs: Is honestly surprised that Jason was the first to adopt a kid but here they are.

Tim: Laughed his ass off when he found out and kept making Jason is turning into Bruce jokes for weeks. Thinks the kid is cute but that’s about it. Doesn’t understand how the kid likes him more than Dick but it pisses Jason off so it’s fine.

Damian: Questioned immediately if Jason was suitable to be a parent (which Jason thought was fair considering this was spontaneous). Didn’t think much of Percy. But I do feel like Damian might poke at Percy a bit too much and Persassy would come out and make conflict between the two.

(Y’all are free to add your two cents into how the other batfam members would react.) Anyways this is getting long will write more about it either later or tomorrow.

This all I guess started from me and my friend discussing on who the godly parents of the batfam would be if they where in the PJO verse. Will post that if y’all are interested.

DICK & JAY

neither of them know they’re demigods, dick thought john grayson was his bio dad and jason thought catherine was his bio mom.

hermes met dick’s mom while she was traveling with the circus. he stayed with marie for about two years after dick was born (taking care of him while she performed) before leaving. a few years later she met john grayson and fell in love. she would often read dick greek myths but never told him about his parentage.

after dick’s parents die in gotham, he (10) is sent to juvie and then an orphanage, which he runs away from.

he survives on the streets for a few months by busking (performing tricks for money) and living in abandoned buildings that no one else can reach. he then meets 8 year old jason todd who is living with catherine and willis todd. they bond pretty much immediately and dick visits him every day. they do cons and steal tires together, plus dick is an expert pickpocket. he is there for jason when catherine and then willis die, and they live in willis’ shitty apartment together.

about a year later they are found by a satyr who explains that they are demigods and that there’s a summer camp for kids like them. they are VERY distrustful at first because that sounds crazy but also it’s a satyr so maybe they’re not lying. eventually they decide they might as well go, gotham is a shithole anyway.

they get to CHB without incident bc neither of them really attract monsters and the Gotham Stench hides their scents anyway. they are the first of the batkids to arrive at camp.

dick (11) is claimed by hermes about three weeks after arriving. him and jason (9) live at camp year-round. when he’s 16 dick becomes head counselor of hermes cabin.

JASON

son of athena. father unknown. was left on the streets and found by catherine todd, who convinced willis to take him in. he was living with them when he met dick. they immediately bonded and after jason is orphaned they live together, until a year later when a satyr finds them.

he’s not claimed for a while after arriving, but doesn’t really mind bc it means he gets to stay with dick. eventually claimed years later but still eats lunch with the hermes cabin cuz dick is his family.

CASS

hades/bruce meets lady shiva and falls in love with her deadliness. they have a child together but he has to abandon her bc the ‘no more kids’ pact the big 3 have.

sandra wu-san meets david cain while pregnant and tasks him with training her daughter. he agrees and lady shiva leaves soon after giving birth. cain does not know she’s a demigod. he trains her to be the perfect weapon and hades/bruce can do nothing about it without alerting his brothers to her existence.

her powers manifest after the first time she kills someone (at 8), and she runs away. she travels across the world for years until a satyr finds her and brings her to CHB. she (10) is claimed soon after, and enjoys living alone in the hades cabin. chiron and babs teach her how to read and speak, even tho she’s learned a bit over the years. she arrives a year after dick (12) & jason (10)

TIM

athena met jack and janet drake at one of their archeological digs, and admired their intellect. she gave them tim as a gift. jack and janet spent the first few years of his life at home with him, until they decided he was old enough to join them on their travels. he was an incredibly smart child and was very self-sufficient, so it didn’t cause them any trouble. he didn’t go to school, but had a tutor that accompanied them on their trips.

when he is 10 his parents die in a plane crash that he survives. after their funeral, he ditches NYC (where they were buried) and athena sends an owl to guide him to camp. he arrives at CHB about a year after cass (11) and 2 years after dick (13) & jason (11). he is jay’s favorite bio sibling.

STEPH

daughter of hermes. raised by crystal brown in gotham until a satyr finds her (11) and brings her to camp. frequently exchanges letters with her mom. arrives a year after tim (11), two years after cass (12), and three years after dick (14) and jason (12)

claimed few months after arriving at camp. she is dick’s favorite bio sibling

DUKE

son of apollo. one of the rare apollo children that can control light. raised by his mom in newark until they were attacked by a monster and his mom was injured.

he left in order to keep her safe, and went to CHB (which apollo had told her about, and she told duke about). he keeps in contact with her through letters and iris messages. he is claimed about a month after arriving at camp. he (11) arrives two years after steph (13), three years after tim (13), four years after cass (14) and five years after dick (16) and jason (14)

DAMIAN

similar to lady shiva, bruce/hades is captivated by talia’s deadliness. they have a child together, which she tries to hide from ra’s, but he soon finds out and learns he is a demigod. to him, this makes him even more fit to ascend the demon throne (the LoA is a cult, and the lazarus pit is magic).

damian is trained to defeat monsters and humans alike, and is gifted a stygian iron sword for his fifth birthday. bruce/hades had told talia about CHB, and she is finally able to send damian there when he is 10.

he arrives three years after duke (14), five years after steph (16), six years after tim (16), seven years after cass (17), and eight years after dick (19) and jason (17)

BABS

has been at CHB since she was 13, the same year dick & jason arrived. she is the new oracle of delphi. basically rachel elizabeth dare. is 21 when damian arrives. was paralyzed at 16 when she tried to interfere with a prophecy, and has been in a wheelchair since

There's layers upon layers of reasons I've sorted everyone where I have, all of which are based solidly in canon and most of which will be explored in the fic. Some of them were extremely easy to sort. A few of them required several hours of thought. But everyone is now sorted where I genuinely think they'd be if they existed in the PJO verse and were demigods.
