Omg. That same website has a follow-up article about the backlash to the premise (x)
Tumblr media
This is a lot to be inaccurate about in one paragraph, but this is why so much of TV/movie reporting is so far from real journalism. Any level of familiarity with the source would not tell you that Basil and Dorian were "romantic main characters" (implying they were an actual couple rather than having an unconsummated attraction, particularly on Basil's side), nor does the character of Dorian Gray go to jail. Oscar Wilde went to jail. Jesus Christ this is worse than YouTube "video essays" that just read the first paragraph of Wikipedia articles.
Guys, Netflix is going to make a modern day adaptation of Dorian Gray and they're making Basil and Dorian brothers

Wait, what do you mean with "half of the EPs are misogynistic, ageist assholes"? Have you watched the first eps of TBOC? Also, what makes you think they are doing this marketing mess because of richonne fans? Have they campaigned for Caryl to split or smth? I try to stay away from social media except Tumblr so I dunno what's up, but I'm seein ppl worrying and even considering not watching so I'm getting concerned... One thing about richonne stans... i think some of them (quite a lot actually) deep down wanted michonne to get together with daryl. That is the vibe they constantly give me because why are they always talking about daryl, attending norman's events (i was there), stanning him like a very dedicated fan? never seen them being THAT passionate about andy/rick. I mean they got rick and i believe they love it but daryl is just like that cool bad boy you had a crush on and never got together with, y'know... otherwise why cconstantly being all over our business?
The marketing strategy for TOWL was rooted in competition, positioning the characters as the best while passive aggressively tearing down other characters/ships/actors, and that seems to be spilling into TBOC's strategy as well in order to keep TOWL's fanbase on the hook (the comments on a couple of posts made by official accounts about Caryl's "friendship" were full of Richonne fans mocking Caryl/Caryl fans). It's a short-sighted strategy to bring in more viewers and it'll backfire. They should be focusing on getting all Caryl fans onboard, the ones who are wary because of what happened a couple years ago and the ones who left many years back, and growing that viewership along with drawing viewers who might have an interest in other elements of the show that doesn't directly conflict with the interests of viewers they can rely on the most to invest long-term.
Side note, because I see this coming up a lot too: Yes, Daryl and Carol are friends. It never bothered me when Caryl called the other their best friend in the context of the story because 1) as many have pointed out and as I wholeheartedly believe, the best romantic relationships are rooted in deep friendship 2) it has never been written to exclude the possibility of fans seeing their friendship transition into a full-blown romance 3) I trusted I would see the payoff in the near future. However. When you beat the audience over the head with it in the promotion, when you know your core audience has built up expectations after a prolonged wait, when your showrunner isn't trustworthy, and when you're encouraging other fans to invalidate Caryl fans' experience, I do have a problem with the word "friends." No, they can't spoil what might happen for Daryl and Carol in the show, but that doesn't mean they have to define the relationship at all when they're promoting it. For Example: "Relive the moment this incredible bond took root" (if they want the flower imagery without the alliteration lol) is vague enough to encompass all perspectives until it's explicitly defined in the show, and it should be defined as romantic since, again, that's what the core audience wants.
I don't spend time in the Richonne fandom, so I don't know what the draw is to Daryl's character. People can have a variety of interests for a variety of reasons, but at least from what I can gather, some of it isn't genuine and some of it is about what Daryl's position as a character and Norman's position as an actor can do for them as well as what they don't want it to do for Carol and her fans. That's as far as I want to delve into it right now seeing as though any mention of Richonne from a Caryler is viewed as an attack, which this is not, and I don't have the emotional capacity for unnecessary fighting.

hii how do u think s5 will go down byler wise if u do have an idea cuz ik ppl have their theories n stuff but just wanted someone else’s opinion. personally I think el and mike r gonna confront each other and break up first, and I don’t think that mike is gonna get outed tbh. other ppl seem to be set on that but that’s just another super traumatic thing to happen to mike on top of everything, getting outed won’t make someone more open about it like if it happens at the wrong time that can be so much worse than staying in the closet. i know I would just run away and hide from everyone in that situation which I don’t think we want for mike. maybe that’ll be what pushes him off the edge tho and make him break down finally and get everything out
Hi hello! Thank you so much for the asks <33
I'm very sorry this is late :,D BUT IM HERE
Ooooooo okay hmmm I agree with you tbh! I don't think it makes sense for Mike to be outed by someone especially because it's just a very disgusting act in general but also especially in context of the 80s – with the AIDs epidemic it's scary for a gay man to be out. If anything! I think he might be "outed" to the audience with a Vecna scene but that's about as much as I think it would go.
I also agree that El and Mike will break up first! I would love for there to be a heart to heart between them where they open up to each other for the first time, and I don't know I want them to show that just because they're broken up doesn't mean they don't care for each other (also maybe the fact that they can love each other better now that they're just friends!)
What other predictions do I have hmmmm...well I have ideas but I don't think they count as fully fledged theories haha. Like– I do think the swings are gonna come back some how. And I think there's going to be a moment where everything is fully addressed between Mike and Will. Because up until now they haven't really addressed everything. They've been more tiptoeing around it. Yes Mike apologises for the past year but they never actively address why things are weird or the rain fight or any of that.
So I feel like there's gonna be a moment where everything is finally out in the open (because there's so much built up tension at this point) and it'll be this moment of relief and I feel like after it'll be more calm between them y'know? Like it's all fighting and then finally once its all out it's quiet and they can finally talk to each other about it all, no more secrets. And I would love for there to be a quiet kiss at first – like its almost anxiety inducing to watch them build the courage y'know? I wanna hold my breathe and then exhale once its over and see how happy and comfortable they are together.
But yeah I'm just rambling now haha
tHANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE ASK I FEEL TERRIBLE FOR REPLYING LATE ANON BUT KNOW I APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH <33

Hii so I wanted to ask some advice for ppl (me lol) who want to write fanfics?? U obviously don’t have to but I do look up to you for your work and was wondering if you could give some tips :)) thank uu 💕💕
SUREE!! 🥹 it's a bit hard for me to come up with some things that are key points in writing fanfic bc i don't think I just write, but i guess i can point out a few donts or guidelines i think of, especially when writing "real people" fanfic?
i don't write anything relating to their actual family bc i feel like it's a bit much? idk, just not something id ever consider doing. pets are OK for me just family members not so much
writing about their insecurities that they've talked about feels icky. ive seen it happen a LOT and it just makes me feel like its crossing a boundary? idk
a big one: if the person you're writing about explicitly states that they do not like when people write ff about them, stop wititng it immediately. if any of the guys said it i wouldn't write anymore ever again, just a respect thing
a few do's i think of?
i often write genres and things outside of like modern life fanfics because i find it more entertaining (ie fantasy, scifi, etc) but tbh this is a personal preference so you can just write whatever comes to mind!
some people open asks for requests (not me bc I struggle with fulfilling my own ideas, i can't imagine having to follow someone else's) but it's a good way to start and get practice!
outlining larger fics, even if it's just key points. i actually don't (and really need to tbh) because you'll forget even when you say you won't 😭 so it's 100% a good idea to do that!
thesaurus is your best friend, fr. i have her open on the side everytime because a lot of words feel repetitive 😭 but having that helps a lot ! just make sure the synonym makes sense sjdhdjfh
tags are good too! especially when you're just starting, it'll help you reach a larger audience hehe
that's all I can think of! i often just start writing in random moments of inspiration, but we all have our own flow! don't get discouraged when you see others uploading faster than you, everyone has their own pace :>

Jensen was referring to Mish as brother a couple times. If at all Cockles is/was real at some point (I strongly believe it was real), wont that be like a stab at Mish? I really hate it when ppl do that. I mean, if my bf/gf or ex calls me sister, I swear I'll be pissed and hurt.
Also, why did I feel like they haven't maintained contact much? I hated it when Jensen mentioned that he was texting back and forth with Jared. If he was keeping contact with Misha, wouldn't he have known the schedules and the plans? All it'll take is a simple text. Jensen didn't say I love you - now that hurt me
I really wish they continue their friendship with the same intensity. I believe in Mish - he is great in maintaining friendships. But I don't know about Jensen - and with this new founded friends and fame - I hope he doesn't abandon Mish.
Hey, look-- I know we all wished that the panel was some big "I love you" confessional, but of course, it wouldn't be. I honestly thought it was a great conversation between the two of them because it highlighted just how much they enjoy talking with one another.
And yeah, for the "Cockles" of it all, it'd be nice to Jensen to know all the details of Misha's life, but I have always said that it wouldn't make sense for those two to define a relationship in any traditional sense, and this is exactly why. They are both busy, they live far apart, they have a million obligations that pull them all over in a moments notice, so keeping tabs on one another is pretty much impossible; and I know what you're gonna say: But if they were/are together, wouldn't they know these things?
I mean... maybe? Honestly, my best friend is someone I speak with on the phone four times a year, and I see her once every few years, but when we do talk and when I do see her, it's like no time has passed, and that's just a friendship. My husband and I can be ships passing in the night for weeks on end, and then we'll find things out about the other over the few dinners we do get to have together.
My point is... every relationship is different, but real bonds endure no matter what. And whether or not they're together or they're just friends, I didn't see Jensen not knowing everything about Misha's life or Misha not knowing everything about Jensen's as a bad thing-- it just made sense given their situations.
And on top of all that, I have a sneaking suspicion that the two were pretending to not know as much about the other for the sake of the zoom call. Also, for the sake of their own privacy. The times they have worked together on projects and charity functions, they have done this thing where Jensen will almost "play dumb" about the cause and then ask Misha questions, and Misha will answer-- usually in a joking, sort of teasing way, and then they'll banter back and forth, and then they'll finally talk about the thing they're promoting. I saw elements of that in this panel-- Jensen seemed to have his "interviewer" voice on at times to inquire about Misha for the sake of the audience. I don't think the entire panel was that ^ but I do think many of the things Jensen apparently "didn't know" about Misha, were actually just mentioned for show.
In any case, those two could obviously talk for hours and I wish we got to see them talk for hours, but I am so happy with the little bit we got because they're super cute and super scruffy and super loving with one another.
It was just super.

In the light of the whole doomsday arc and chaos I think it's important to like,,, clarify ? Some points ppl r makin even tho theyre prob not gonna see it.
Also!! This is all /roleplay and talking about the characters not the content creators
Yes, everyone has fucked up. That's what they're ALL going for, especially the ppl takin the lead when it comes to the writin of the script. Everyone is a fucked up character and everyone is a good character with the exception of Dream.
Now to get some more in depth:
Let's start with c!Tubbo. Since the beginning he's been put into tight and bad situations. Watching his friends get exiled, being made a spy for the sake of Intel to win a war which is So Much Pressure, eventually fighting in said war, being made president of the revolutionized country but then immedietly having to rebuild it, later be manipulated to exile his beat friend and brother in arms etc etc. It's a lot of trauma and greif, it's not false to call him a child solider because that's exactly what he is. Schlatt was right, the moment he died the country was doomed, wether that be from Pogtopia, Technoblade, Dream or the inevitability that the leadership would fall onto Tubbo. He's not infallible and he's not experienced. He's a severely Traumatised teenager. But this doesn't necessarily make him a good person.
Next is c!Technoblade because I have some Opinions. He's a fucked up character. Just like everyone else, just in a more transparent way. A lot of the characters hide the bad things they've done in a way to preserve moral righteousness and such. Technoblade has always been clear and transparent he wants nothing more than anarchy, chaos and the fall of L'manburg. Now, acts of terrorism aren't good, they're pretty fucked up. The great thing about his character is that he's so goddman complex. Just like Tubbo and Tommy he's been wronged. And just like Tubbo and Tommy he's a hypocrite. That's what happens when you have morally grey and ambiguous characters. He made his intentions about anarchy clear and Pogtopia made their intentions about Governments clear, they both chose to ignore eachother which in the end made them Hypocrites. A specific point I want to make about Technoblade teaming up with Dream is that Tommy has NEVER been clear with Technoblade with how Dream treated him. Technoblade couldn't have known what Dream did because of Tommy's trauma about speaking about it and Dream's manipulation. Technoblade teamed up with Dream because they shared a common goal, he doesnt trust Dream and has voiced that before. Also! Tommy's point in their argument in the middle of Doomsday was really interesting, he said (I'm paraphrasing) "why can't you just let people love what they love." A thing to note is that Technoblade DID. After the end of the revolution he left to go live in retirment and solitude and let them fight amongst eachother and destroy eachother. The very same Government he predicted to be corrupt then tried to execute him without trial even though they said he'd be given one. Which is a pretty corrupt thing to do. In the end Technoblade was used and just a little bit mistreated but he's not in the right because of that. Again, he can be seen in the lense of a Villain but that doesn't mean he really is one.
Now onto c!Tommy. His character is deffinetly an interesting one! I think his main fault is his own hubris. He's prideful to a default and stubborn when it comes to the idea he could have done something wrong because of how badly he wants to be the/a hero. Now, I'm not saying he HASN'T taken accountability for some things he's said and done because he most certainly has and thus has grown as a character. Another huge fault is his hyperfixation on the emotions and people attached to objects. Honestly? Tubbo logically wasn't wrong, they're just discs. But in Tommy's head they're a symbol of his and Tubbo's friendship. The problem is when he picks these discs over his actual friendship with Tubbo and how Dream has manipulated him. Dream plays a BIG part in why Tommy thinks the discs are so valuable. If you're told enough times and manipulated into thinking objects hold a significant value to the things important to you then eventually they become fiercely important to you and have some weight to them. I think in the beginning, in Tommy's brain destroying the discs meant his and Tubbo's friendship was over because of the part they've played in their friendship. Again, Tubbo only ever saw them as dics, plastic vinyls that drop from mobs and play pretty music. To another point, Tommy is also explicitly Hypocritical, just like Technoblade. He holds onto the fact that Tubbo and L'manburg and it's people are his friends and he cares about him but then calls Technoblade his friend and casts his emotions aside. The problem is the blatant fact that Tommy used Technoblade as a weapon and after being called out that friends don't do that to eachother he ignores it. In this instance he's no better than Technoblade. A kinda big problem is his character development, which really doesn't have a lot to do with c!Tommy and more with how the writers suggest developing him as a character. I think the main thing is that he goes to Tubbo's side saying how the discs never truly mattered to later saying they need the discs. The discs don't matter. What matters is defeating Dream. But just like Tubbo, Tommy is a highly and incredibly traumatised Teenager.
Next is c!Ranboo, the mad lad! I don't really have a whole lot to say? Just some quick analysis of what his characters ideals are and his actions in everything. Looking at his character he's incredibly paranoid, anxious and probably Traumatised from things we the audience don't know. At the end of the day he's a true neutral character. In one of the tweets cc!Ranboo sent it said that as long as Dream isn't hurting the people he (character Ranboo) directly cares about, he doesn't care what Dream does. For a good portion he was against Dream because he cared about everyone nd dream was hurting everyone. He's joined Technoblade and Ph1lza in the Arctic because he thinks that Dream has gotten what he wants, he doesn't know anything about Dream and Tommy's conversation by the end of Doomsday. Also! Ranboo's ideals/beliefs are anarchist by nature and principle. The reason he has a problem with choosing sides between L'manburg and Dream is because of the hierarchy within those sides, and the obligation that you have to fight that comes with picking those sides. Technoblade and Ph1lza both chose to fight under free will and because they chose too without coercion. Everyone is equal there. There's a really good post somewhere talking about it that'll I'll look for that explains it very well. (EDIT: found the post also hopefully i did the link right)
This is getting painfully long so I'm wrapping it up here with a few last things. Everything has always come down to Dream. The reason L'manburg was built was to get away from the oppressive power that is Dream (another point for Technoblade teaming up w dream, he wasn't there for Dreams stuff, he only knew of Schlatt but I digress). Dream has manipulated everyone, he's running the puppet show with the strings tied to his fingers. He's manipulated Tubbo, Tommy, Ranboo, Technoblade, Schlatt, EVERYONE. He's pitted everyone against eachother because he loves the chaos. Because he knows that if they weaken eachother it'll be a lot easier to take control with less effort put in from his part. Dream has always been the main antagonist from the very very beginning. Sure some could say Tommy started it with the discs but Dream was the one who took them in the first place etc.
He's also pitted the audience against eachother. It's really interesting in how he's actually manipulated the audience. It doesn't matter who's on what side or who's wronged who when the cause for all their greif has always been Dream. The fandom is fighting over traitors and betrayals and villain arcs. It doesn't matter, not when Dream is runnin free with the amount of power that he has.

I KNOOOOWWWW AND YOU ARE SO RIGHT AND VERY VALID POINTS PLEAAAASEEEE and you have no idea how happy and proud i am that you don't feel embarrassed or anything about reading your own fics although i also genuinely understand some other writers who can't do it (at all, even) what i don't get and like is some readers or passerbys who should just be minding their own business (this topic is for another time i don't wanna dwell on it it'll just piss me off more and more)
take a look and another
ID WANT TO MARRY HIM
honey ♡
IKR LIKE omg ok i apologize for this bc i dont wanna piss u off but i also have my own opinion of this like
tiny lettering in case u dont wanna read it atm and get upsetti spaghetti <3
ok i recently started writing jisung smut- i have done it ONCE just to like rly see how i felt on the topic and i think this is a great example. readers will see this fic and see the “JISUNG SMUT BELOW THE CUT BEWARE” and instantly click on the button like 😭😭
and then they’ll come to ur ask box and be like “ayo bitch u rly hurt my feelings with that fic u warned me not to read”
and tbh theres a lot i can say about this but i can shorten it to this: i understand having a distaste for a certain read. that is 100% ok! people put warnings on their fics and have little side notes specifically for you! but what i really dont understand and can NOT stand for is openly hating on a writer for producing content and putting several disclaimers in front of this work that might offend you.
writers are humans too :( that shit hurts and this piece they spent hours, maybe days(even weeks) to produce now feels… really icky to look at. its awful
and ikr!! i used to be SUPER awkward when speaking about my fics. id never take a compliment and would rarely admit to working really hard on a fic in case someone didnt like it so i wouldnt get hurt by their comments
of course like i can say ppl have been super nice to me and i havent gotten very much hate (bless the lord omg) but still its a really important thing that most writers prepare for despite having a positive fanbase
but overall i think i can really say ive grown and so has my perspective of the world and my talent— AND i believe its a SUPER important thing that every writer eventually come to this realization that: writing is for yourself
sure, once you get a few fans, it feels like you’re writing for an audience instead, but you should always be writing something you’d want to read. i know some people say the way to grow is to get out of your comfort zone, but i think that truly the way to do so is by EXPANDING your comfort zone instead bit by bit
it takes a ton of time but eventually, you’ll look back at that work and realize how much you’ve matured and be so proud of yourself
ok very long rant im sorry <3 i talk too much wow
ily and i love when u talk to me honey <3
i hope this even made sense my brain is off
also can he rail me

Thoughts on some of the asks you've had recently!!
1. I think outside of Stan Tumblr and Twitter where there is anti-Whitney sentiment from some corners, Callum is likely being viewed with a lot of sympathy right now. Part of this is because he's nice and likeable, showing sympathetic symptoms etc. And part bc he's a former soldier w named PTSD... like I don't think I need to elaborate on why people accept that particular narrative more easily!!
2. Like anon I also appreciate that you shared your thoughts on Ben having BPD and how we can view his character through that. I also know someone on Twitter has put forward a good case for Ben having cPTSD which I think fits too (and it's not like he can't have just one lol)
3. Having said that if the EE writers so much as touch on Ben having cPTSD I predict Stan Twitter might just implode w rage bc it's "Callum's Thing" and "Ben shouldn't have an excuse for his actions" 🥴 And again tying into making it a competition, but also Callum being a recognisable face of PTSD as a soldier/police who can be sympathised w vs Ben who... isn't that lmao. I doubt it'll ever happen bc I'm not sure the writers/audience are ready to confront PTSD caused by childhood trauma and an unsympathetic person living w it, especially when it implicates Phil whose like the face of the show lmao
4. I'm looking at a lot of this rn w interest because it really does epitomise the acceptable vs unacceptable mental illness, what trauma is recognised and amed and what isn't, which actions are viewed as forgivable vs which actions label you a Bad Person.
5. I think this discourse (lol) is a bit different to Isaac's story bc the Callum/Ben conversations are more about reactions to two characters and how their mh is received and treated by fans and the writers and how the very fact Callum has named PTSD says a lot abt certain sterotypes/attitudes. Whereas Isaac's story is ongoing and will deliberately seek to challenge similar stereotypes by using other characters as mouthpieces for different stereotyped views of his illness. Idk does that make sense? The Ballum stuff is a discussion that sits v much outside of the canon writing as a critique if how and why characters get certain labels and stories, while Isaac's is a canon issue led story??
6. I could write an Essay about how reactions to Ben tie into attitudes toward offenders and the criminal justice system, rehabilitation etc but... maybe another day lmao
bro how u send me all this i swear they have a character limit on asks 😭 i love it tho lemme go thru it point by point like u did
1. idk how it didn't dawn on me that the sympathy for callum coming from the gp would be bc he's a soldier... like idk how that didn't occur to me.... even when that other anon talked abt the acceptable face of ptsd i thought yeah people know ptsd mainly bc of soldiers but like... idk i just Forgot how a certain demographic of ppl who consider soliders and police the Pinnacle of humanity so ofc they'd be sympathetic and understanding..... idk HOW i didn't think of that but thank you for bringing that up to me omg
2. it's actually crazy that u bring that up bc me and vikki @permetstu were just talking abt this the other day bc i was surprised at how many overlapping symptoms there are between bpd and ptsd and so i googled it and found that actually bpd and cptsd are pretty commonly confused as each other BECAUSE of the overlap in symptoms !!!! but you're dead on, they can and often do co-occur bc both ptsd and bpd are rooted in trauma. i personally still would lean towards bpd for ben over cptsd bc of his abandonment issues which seem (from a quick google tbf so it's not like im an expert lmao) to occur in bpd but not in cptsd. but like i said im not an expert and they can co-exist !! i just think it's very interesting how other ppl are spotting the same things and talking abt a diagnosis that is so commonly misdiagnosed as bpd and vice versa. like at least i know im not imagining it lmao !!!
3 + 4. sadly i think you're right lmao that's exactly what i meant when i was talking abt there being an outcry if there was ever to be a bpd diagnosis for ben bc he's 'bad rep' bc of the things he's done. in that post i was talking abt bpd exclusively but you could apply that to any mental illness and you'd get ppl saying that they're excusing his behaviour instead of explaining it. ppl don't want explanations for someone's 'bad' i.e. outward behaviour/actions, not in characters and not in real life. ppl are more sympathetic to ppl who internalize their symptoms and/or have symptoms that don't really affect others, and i think that's another reason why ppl sympathise w callum more. i think it just comes down to ppl not wanting to understand the complexities of mental illness bc it's just easier to pass those behaviours off as personal issues/failure, someone's personality, someone being 'bad' etc etc u know? whereas something like ptsd fits a lot nicer into a box. for an outsider, it's less complicated, esp in someone like callum. callum saw/experienced bad things in the army, now he has this trigger that makes him act out a little bit. if you look at it in it's barest terms, it's a very defined cause and effect that is easy to understand. obviously it's not that simple, but that's how ppl view it. most mental illnesses don't have that very clear cause and effect, and therefore it's, for some reason, incredibly hard for ppl to wrap their head around. even if you were to say ben had ptsd too, it'd still be difficult for ppl bc what he's been thru 'isn't as bad' as what callum has, so what do you mean he's traumatised ?? like honestly there is a problem with how we all collectively view trauma. even when i first started having counselling and ppl were tellind me 'this thing traumatised u' i'm like ??? that's not Trauma tho. but trauma doesn't have to mean something horrific or violent. there is no threshold for trauma and it hurts all of us to have one. if smth fuck u up, it fucked u up. just bc u weren't in a warzone or physically abused in some way doesn't mean you can't still be traumatised, and i think that's a difficult pill for ppl to swallow.
5. when i said that i didn't mean to compare their storylines, i just kind of meant look at the reactions (both on screen and off) to callum's symptoms vs ben's vs isaac's. they're all mentally ill (as far as i'm concerned lmao) but you've got someone who's very easily sympathised with vs someone who is unsympathetic bc of his behaviour vs someone who is unsympathetic bc they're 'scary' or 'crazy'. it comes back the same issues of how obvious is the cause and effect and how sympathetic are their symptoms. but yeah, i agree isaac's sl is completely different for all the reasons you said but also the conversation of (mis)diagnosis in poc for these types of things and also medicating these types of illnesses but that's a whole other conversation but yh lmao i was purely just comparing different reactions to different illnesses and presentations of those illnesses, that's all !
6. i do not know enough abt this particular topic to have an Opinion but i do know enough to know you're right and that you for bringing this up to me bc it will def be smth for me to consider moving forward !!!
💞💞💞
