• Was the biggest football star of his school and got a scholarship thanks to it. He went to college but had to stop playing football eventually due to a freak accident on the field. However, this didn’t sadden him, since he got his diploma and works in things related to football anyways, he works as a coach for the local youth football team.

• He is a big fan of No Doubt, when he found out that they were performing at Coachella, he absolutely lost it and started saving for a ticket immediately. When he went and saw them in the front row he cried, absolutely WEEPED.

• He gets really attached to that fish pretty fast and treasures the gesture behind it. Pony and him name is Frost.

• Pony and him use Twitter DM’s just to send memes to each other and store them.

• He has a private Twitter account that only Pony gets to follow.

• Can speak Spanish and French.

•Owns a leather jacket that had been Dally’s a couple of years ago and takes care of it as if it was made of gold.

• He’s the reason why Darry had to get a Disney+ account.

• Wanted to have a mouse as a pet (since…mickey mouse, duh.) for a while but Darry refused.

• Is the one that gets the most excited about Christmas. He’s not particularly religious but he loves the decorations, and the lights, and the whole mood in general. He’s the one that always makes sure the rest of the boys have presents, even if it’s something small.

• His first time going to disney world he bawled his eyes out, like full on mental breakdown inside the park, Ponyboy and Sodapop saved up all their birthday money, allowance, and paycheck money for about a year and a half to buy the tickets. (they wanted to get a fast pass and like the entire deluxe trip for him, that's why it took so long.) Ponyboy was SO embarrassed from two-bits crying, “You’re 22, Stop. Crying. Over. Mickey.” but still was happy for him.

ᴺᴼᵂ ᴾᴸᴬᵞᴵᴺᴳ : Steve

• He tells everyone his top artist is Limp Bizkit but it's actually Queen, his top song was good old fashioned lover boy.

• Wakes up early to watch the F1 races and has never missed a season of Top Gear since he was little. His favorite was Hamilton, but ever since he saw that race with verstappen vs hamilton, his opinions have changed…

• He’s the best at playing video games, and he especially likes horror ones like Resident Evil. (absolute wh0re for Leon Kennedy, i am too tho so no shame)

• Sodapop and him are always playing online together and they sometimes let Ponyboy join them. Him and Sodapop gave ponyboy an unplugged controller once and said it was wireless (for the shitz and giggles and to see how long it took for him to notice), he realized half way through the game and told Darry who then yelled at them for 5 minutes.

• Doesn’t like TikTok and is always going about how Vine was just much better. (He’s stuck in 2014..)

• Gets angry when his texts go unanswered in the group chat (they do it on purpose since they know it pisses him off.)

• He listens to cotton eye joe on repeat, change my mind.

Ok so I feel like Eddie would have Tumblr. He’d be an absolute menace, he just gives off that Vibe, y’know?

Would any of their daughters have Tumblr? Would they know about each others’ accounts? Would they follow each other/interact? Or do their interests differ enough they leave each other alone?

So when I imagine Eddie as an author, I’m really picturing him as kind of like a Neil Gaiman-esque figure, both in terms of his genre/style of writing and the way he engages with the general public. The only difference to me is that where Gaiman has put a lot of focus on TV/movies, Eddie sticks a bit closer to novels.

Neil Gaiman very notably has a Tumblr account. He’s been on Tumblr for ages, and I feel like Eddie would be the same way. 

Eddie is definitely a total disaster on Tumblr in the 2010s. He says whatever he wants, engages in political discourse like nobody’s business, and probably spoiled his own writing on one occasion or another. His agent didn’t know what to think because on paper it’s bad news behavior, but Eddie’s primary audience actually seems to enjoy the transparency, so on the whole he leaves him alone.

The older Eddie gets, though, the more he mellows out, and by the 2020s he mostly just uses it as a running Q/A. Still, it’s definitely the platform he’s the most genuine and himself on (because he probably also has a Twitter and an Instagram, but only out of business obligation and he practically never uses them).

As for their daughters, if anybody has a Tumblr, it’s 100% Robbie. Robbie is definitely the pinnacle of a late-2010s Tumblr girl, for better and/or for worse. She knows about her dad’s account (and forever curious about how many followers he has even though Eddie refuses to tell her). She doesn’t follow him, but occasionally one of his posts still ends up on her feed and she is so upset about it every time.

Moe could have a Tumblr – maybe in her late middle school and high school years. I feel like she’d be the kid who taught herself fairly complex HTML coding purely for aesthetic theme purposes. She’s Steve through and through though so as she gets older, the novelty of social media in general wears off and she decides it really isn’t her thing.

I feel like Hazel’s interests wouldn’t lead her down the Tumblr path. She’s a YouTube/TikTok/Insta girlie true and true. Maybe Robbie tries to bully her into making one, but she doesn’t really get how it works so it just never happens.

(And Robbie definitely keeps her Tumblr on lockdown. That shit is hers and hers alone).

but yeah, i did get a lot of things wrong here. some that i cleared up in other reblogs, but the version you reblogged was the one that got the most popular unfortunately. i wish people would reblog the other version more.

first off i want to say, this was never intended to be a massive informational post. this was originally random venting i did while half asleep, not even tagged if i remember right. my blog’s not exactly popular, i never expected it to be this big. ive managed to clear some things up in the comments and reblogs tho.

my use of the word ‘basically’ was pretty poor here, i never intended to imply it had already been passed, just that it was very likely to be passed and everybody besides the greens is on board with it. it is very likely to pass. but no, it has not passed. only more reason to get angry about it in my opinion, means there’s time.

secondly, yes, the method has not been fully decided on yet, that was included in the article i limked, and i hope it wouldnt be giving companies your id, but that’s a very real possibility, and the other methods ive seen i just dont feel would hold up well. id has been the main method that’s been talked about here, im not super comforted by ‘but they could use this other thing’. and i couldnt see corporations giving up the chance to collect more personal data unless they had good reason not to, and everything ive seen on it says the burden will be on the corporations. so unless that info’s wrong, that sounds like something to panic about. but yes, it does feel wrong to be making it out as if it could only been that, i shouldve mentioned that in the original post.

look, i like you doing all this, these are some good resources, my original post was a half asleep vent, it was bound to have inaccuracies or misinformation, and im sorry about that, i really am.

but where i really stop following you is when you say this proposal has no teeth.

especially because ive felt the exact same way for a while, and even in my original post, i knew it had ‘no teeth’ in a way, but i didnt say anything on it because i didnt see it as important enough. yes, i shouldve still mentioned it anyway, that there will be ways to get around it. but i didnt mention it bc it’s still dangerous.

there would be no penalties for users who managed to access social media without going through the check, i know, i was never expecting that, only someone who has little idea on how the internet works would expect that. even if the burden werent on the platforms, nobody’s going to take notice of a single under 16 year old slipping into social media. if they managed to do that id be wondering why im not locked up for pirating all the shit i have.

no, anybody tech savvy enough could find ways around this law, if not a vpn then something else.

i was never afraid of the law because i truly thought id have to hand over my id to social media or stop using it. that’s not the fucking problem. the fear i have for myself is the inconvenience of having to setup a vpn just to browse tumblr, but not everyone is tech savvy enough to find ways around these laws, most people arent, most social media users would probably just end up giving up their id or stop using it. and that could be a fucking problem. maybe a cybersecurity nightmare, but also just blatantly allowing and normalising more absurd data collection, more privacy invasion. even without all that, the bandaid solution of locking children out of social media instead of tackling the actual problem infuriates me.

and the biggest thing im worried about is the precedent. this law is fucking absurd, even if it can be broken without punishment. weilding kids’ safety as a weapon, banning an entire group of people from one of the largest ways of communicating today, allowing companies to force id collection if they so wish, even if they all go a different way those other ways dont sound very good either. a law like being considered and especially passing isnt a good sign for the future.

the best i can hope for besides the law not passing at all is that the companies will fail to enforce it so badly that it causes something awful, like, idk, the system being unsustainable somehow, some massive data breach. which no, wouldnt be a good thing, but itd hopefully set the precedent not to try anymore laws like this, instead of being a precedent to keep going.

look, pull me up on my mistakes all you like. other people have done what youve done here and i appreciate it, actually. i never expected this to get as big as it did, i made mistakes here.

but dont bloody well tell me this law isnt worth anybody’s attention and we should all just ignore it and ‘not get side tracked’. i think i have every right to be worried about this, and your reasoning for why i shouldnt be worried was just telling me things i already knew.

i rlly think. that its like ... absolute bullshit that like. i feel like every single person i have ever dated (bar exactly one) has come at me with bad faith assumptions

like. im SO aware that this breakup was nobody's fault and also both of our faults, but it's just. SO insanely frustrating to be seen as the bad person 24/7. like, yes, i did things wrong in this relationship. but i was NOT the only person who made mistakes and it's just like.... somewhat infuriating to not feel heard out

like ... i'm not going to say anything here that could link back identity-wise to who i dated, because the person doesn't deserve that and i sincerely hope the best for said person moving forward.

HOWEVER. venting time! bc i have zero friends i can vent to in private so my nonexistent followers on tumblr get to hear abt it

i think the biggest reason the breakup exactly happened is just straight up miscommunication and mental health conflicts. like ... our first argument was because there was a communication conflict, where i was blind-sided by them bringing up directly that they had an issue with how i was behaving, and due to how my apology was worded, they reacted in bad faith. we both ended up apologizing, and agreed that i needed to be more forthcoming with inviting him to do things with me, and he had to communicate clearer.

i did my best to uphold my part of the agreement we made after our talk, and when i tried three different times to spend actual quality time with him, very directly asking if he still wanted to do it and doing my best to be understanding when he kept brushing me off, even though i was incredibly upset about it. he promised me that he'd do it with me, and then never brought it up again, not even to apologize for not being able to follow through. which made me get a bit resentful, probably also due to my own ptsd making me particularly sensitive about the entire thing. so i decided to drop it until he brought it up first, which i'm fully aware is petty and i should've just SAID something, but tbh i just. that singular moment kinda broke my trust in him to a point. the most frustrating thing to me is that it is not his fault in any way, he'd been going through a HELL of a difficult time, which made me feel like my own issues severely paled in comparison and made me want to just ... wait out my own emotions until i felt better.

in combination with his in-built way of communicating not being one i understand whatsoever, as he is very subtle and passive in communication - which i don't pick up, as i mentioned during the initial argument we had, as i need DIRECT comments instead of like... testing the waters type talking. it's why i don't understand flirting whatsoever in a majority of cases, it's WAY too subtle for me to understand. which again, isn't his fault, but he literally said that he'd try to communicate clearer after the argument. and then didn't. which is again, another thing where i'm like. i understand, it can be really difficult when you aren't used to doing it, but it's just ... frustrating. and i feel like i sound really defensive because like. i am also VERY used to people just straight up manipulating me or talking circles around me in that annoying as hell subtle passive way and then claiming i'm the one in the wrong when everything would be solved if they just. actually told me directly that they need something from me. instead of constantly HINTING at wanting or hoping they get something.

so as a result, he ends up feeling like he's communicating and not getting any response from me, and i end up feeling like he isn't communicating whatsoever and get blind-sided when he gets upset enough to be blunt.

tbh i'm also still like ... ???????????? about how the entire break-up happened, because it's like ... ????

i posted on the current social media that i am active on that i was having a psychotic episode (which i may or may not still be having, who knows. it sure does do a fantastic job of ruining my relationships everytime i have one) and was like. generally using a light-hearted "haha wow this sucks lol can't wait for business as usual to happen once i feel better"

and then slept all day bc my hives got dramatically worse as of recently (probably due to stress + the like) bc my hives being super bad (which. yaaaaaaaaaaaay more prednisone to fix me .... and a change in antihistamines) so i just . get sleepy. because that's what happens when i'm sick. i sleep

and apparently he jumped to conclusions??? and got worried that i was dead because i hadn't been online after making a post about having a psychotic episode???????? which i'm like. fair, considering his issues, but also *where on earth did that assumption come from?*

like.... a) my psychosis isn't the violent type, and i'm very careful to keep myself away from sharp objects if i get even the INKLING of self-harm thoughts, and have never self-harmed or harmed anyone else or anything more severe EVER in the first place

like yes, i know he's like. dealing with his own issues in his personal life and mental health but also . //////?????????...........?????????????????????????????? where on earth did that come from .....

tbh i'm also think i'm just like. upset about how combative he was for the breakup also :) like literally saying that "even my *therapist* said we should break up" as if my own therapist literally didn't allude to the exact same thing ... though ig he's never gonna know about that considering yknow. blocking me directly after breaking up with me (which yknow what. fair. i've done the same thing. still annoying tho)

and to a point during all of this i'm like ............ i am VERY aware that i should be feeling like. worse for him during all of this. but like my empathy is so low rn that i just. physically cannot. i was already doing my best with like . not getting upset at him in the first place bc i didn't want to add to the stress he was going through. and isolating myself so that i didn't snap at anyone bc i'm still being INCREDIBLY irritable (if you cant tell lol)

idk i guess i'm just like. neither of us were in the right in this relationship, and perhaps i am simply having ptsd in the sense of "why the fuck am i being villainized when i wasn't the only one in the wrong here". or perhaps i'm simply insane and trying to make myself excuses like how he claimed me explaining myself during the argument was an excuse. who knows

my favorite part of the week when a new prodigal son episode drops: my commentary on the latest gifset i created :)

above are four gifs that i made as either alternative colorings (malcolm and ainsley’s respective gifs) or bonus/extra gifs in case one of the ones i intended to use didn’t fit the “vibe” (martin and jessica’s respective scenes). did not intend that the entire whitly family would be on this gifset pero it’s nice to see the family back together ☺ lemme just say that the extra bonus gifs that i made...the way i didn’t end up using them like they were made because i feared i didn’t like some of the colorings for the gifs and you know how when you upload them to tumblr, the quality changes. so they were a rush job and i didn’t really like how they came out and maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. reason why i didn’t use the alternative colorings for the whitly children is because i thought the one i used for malcolm was way more richer in color whereas ainsley’s had too much warmth.

now i did end up using two different psds for this gifset. no, i didn’t mashup any of them because one of them was more of a brightening psd and though some of these scenes (if not most) have you holding up a flashlight to see what the hell is going on, the brightening was a bit...harsh if it wasn’t a scene that was in the dark. luckily, this brightening psd worked harmoniously with the primary psd and it was super seamless in being a cohesive set. now, i actually only used this brightening psd twice...can you guess which ones i used it on? answer in the tags xx

i would show y’all my notes that i wrote but they are mainly notes for dialogue gifsets that i hope i can create (i’ve been hella out of practice and i know the standard fonts and size has changed). going to check the tag just in case nobody has already made it because i don’t wanna spend a copious amount of time on a set and have it already been done. ANYWAYS! where to begin about this episode...it wasn’t heavy in “aesthetic” shots and like i stated before, the coloring of the scenes was kinda...not very good </3 BUT! there were some interesting shots and if the gifs framing seem the same....apologies but they were literally the only ones that grabbed my attention. the thing i am noticing about prodigal son is how they like to frame two people in a scene and they love to do over the shoulder shots. there is probably like one or two token aesthetic shots and like....boom. also, i do wanna note that i try to avoid the gore-y scenes like the victim’s body and any sort of heavy blood. i don’t want people to be turned off or scared by any of my gifsets when they’re not looking for it so i wanna respect anyone who reblogs and likes my content!!

gonna need the prodigal son team to like....help us content creators OUT because damn!! it really is hard to color without losing the integrity of the scene. you can brighten a scene, you can darken a scene, but you lose a lot of what makes the scene. from a few tags on my gifsets, people like how i recolor a scene, and i am always like thank you !!! 🥰🥺💖 i try really hard to get the best out of psd and the scene <3 however, i fear that my preference for warm tones over cool tones might hinder me. listen, i do experiment with different colorings but my gosh, my brain sees warmth and goes brrr and i want to branch out and do something new but MY GOSH !! WARMTH!! and in a show like prodigal son, it feels a bit like out of the ordinary, and i like that. i really like that i put something that is missing. maybe next time i will try cooler tones but i don’t make any promises :( 

and that does it for me!! i think i wrote everything that i wanted to...WAIT! now, i do have to admit that this gifset was indeed a rush job. i downloaded the episode while watching “big sky” and it was growing late and i hadn’t been online in awhile so i had to catch up on everything when i intended to rewatch the episode that night. anyways, as soon as i ate breakfast, i was watching (a little bit of skimming) this episode and finding scenes to make gifs of. i really wanted to write down the dialogue of the potential gifsets then kinda, turned my brain off a bit for the aesthetic gifset. so then i started making these gifs and photoshop was being SUPER slow so i was like only able to make two to three gifs at a time (i would have to exit off, task manager snipe ps, then take a break bc my ass hurt then go back at it). so when i finished, it was getting closer to six pm which is my maximum cut off so i can do (please don’t laugh or @ me) some “decompression time” that goes from between 5 PM to 10 PM (sometimes, like this past time, starts at 6 PM and sometimes it ends at 9 or even 8:30 depending when i stopped being on the computer) where i don’t go on social media. i am radio silent in a lot of my socials besides twitter (follow me @/castieIsgf that’s an uppercase “i” instead of an “l” :3c). anyways, so i was rushing to get this shipped out and i slapped the gifs into random positions not really paying attention where and...yeah, i should’ve just slowed down!! i’m not mad or upset at the arrangement pero i’m kinda like mmmm!! lemme move swap the placement of these two gifs...but that’s water under the bridge!

Poseidon: youtuber. one of those annoying ones who always say to subscribe to their channel before really doing anything much or saying anything worthwhile? like, why not say it at the end when people actually know what your content is about??? always gets invited to those youtuber conventions but hellaaa problematic. not a total dirtbag, supports feminism and everything, but he just has an overall toxic personality. athena stays tf away. somehow is actually lowkey hot tho and has had flings with every other well known celeb who lives near him.

Hades: HIGHKEY anime stan. pretends to like shit like my chemical romance but actually jams to one direction when alone. video games and pokemon go is their life 24/7, but they still try to hide the fact that they waste their (probably few) remaining days on it even tho everyone already knows. has tried tiktok once and went viral for being hilariously fucking bad. definitely has a meme face. apollo once made a meme out of hades’ face to spite him but it actually also went viral and now hades is known as the ‘pikachu corndog guy ’ around the internet. sometimes ppl ask for selfies on the street and he h a t e s it. will flip them off but can’t swear without sounding like a twelve year old who hasn’t gone through puberty.

Dionysus: is incredibly good at tiktok. once did such a smooth pop and lock with six of his nymphs that it went viral. can shuffle up the stairs like hell was freezing over but he didn’t give a shit. runs those eating asmr accs that’s mainly just him stirring drinking wine super loudly until he passes out (somehow still gets a staggering ton of views), but before that, poseidon makes sure to film all the stupid shit he says to put it on his youtube channel. athena’s sometimes there too and uses his overconfident phrases for her shitposts. needless to say, dionysus is a legend on stan twitter.

Ares: will Fite you. is literally the equivalent of a human trash can. people do put maga hats at his altar and he fucking wears them like the fucking trashbag scum that he is. athena plots different strategies to kill him and has polls for the best ones on her story. Straight White Guy trashhhhhhhhh. nobody likes him. he runs an ig acc with maybe four followers at best, and they’re all just all his other own accs that he uses to anonymously harass athena so she can’t shove his own failures into his face. she always knows it’s him, though. people beat him into pulp on online arguments but he refuses to admit that he’s wrong. gets a kick out of harassing people on the subway. athena refers to him as ‘it’ every time she talks about him because she says that subhuman feces should be referred to by the correct pronouns.

Hephaestus: that one sleazy guy at school who’s best friends with hades but isn’t as bad as asshole ares. knows that ares is morally wrong, but still is kind of ok with him unlike everyone else. wouldn’t go so far as to like him tho. that geeky guy who always gets invited to parties. nobody knows how, but he’s in the ‘popular’ crowd, but often overlooked. some people think that it’s because he does all his hw for them, but actually, hephaestus is that guy who’s sleazy and cheap but really slick and conniving. can get himself into any club. that guy who only uses social media to stalk others, and he follows like 1000+ people but nobody will follow him. kind of a douche but not so much to become revolting. haaaaaates poseidon bc they’re both toxic af and recognise it in each other but not in themselves. that guy who apologises for a racist thing from eight years ago that’s been brought up. actually means the apology but doesn’t have much empathy.

ur post about fic & racism in the supergirl fandom really got me thinking (especially about my own biases so thank you) but also like, how there’s this incredibly pervasive but subtle new form of racism I haven’t seen b4 in other fandoms? Like on one hand u have this loud condemnation of how racist monel is & how he was a slave owner blabh blah but no corresponding attention given to the existing Black characters. 1/4

I get wlw not wanting to write m/f fic but a lot of the fandom doesn’t reblog (or make) any of the gifsets, they don’t meta for him they don’t call for more screen time for Mehcad. Same for M’gann. SO many posts talking about how awful monel is compare him to Lena and strangely don’t mention the Black female character who also came from an oppressive society to become a hero? And there are like, idk, 4 people? Who write or post wlw fic with M’gann in it? 2/4

Same with Maggie. A huge segment of fandom decided Floriana is white (even tho hollywood clearly won’t cast her in roles for white women) so they use that as an excuse to exclusively stan the very light skinned white wlw. And the way it carries over to the characters, like, okay Flo is white? but Maggie is absolutely treated like a woc in how parts of fandom aggressively ignore her & find ways to demonize her character while overtly supporting lighter skinned characters ¾

And that same part of the fandom doesn’t ever seem to create content for Lucy or Vasquez either. IDK this isn’t something u can probably explore with stats but ur post really got me thinking and it just feels really gross now bc I see all these posts condemning racism but there’s still this extreme perpetuation of privileging white characters at the same time? & I haven’t seen this particular trend in fandom b4 4/4

Oh, anon, this made my day. I have a bunch of notes waiting in a doc to address the whole Mon-El thing with regard to the racist undertones and the rhetoric used by the show to frame his storyline, and I will do my best to write it before the season comes back again, because I genuinely think they tried to aim high and just … missed completely. (But I make no promises because my thesis defense is on Tuesday.)

To your first point re: fandom attitudes – I was surprised in the early half of S2 when so many people came out of the woodwork making posts in the main tag like “wait, why did they get rid of Kara/James??” because, oh right, nobody acted like they cared for almost twelve straight months. If y’all were so okay with this ship, where were you to acknowledge its social significance when it was canon? Where are you now? Why hasn’t there been an outpouring of tweets week after week at the execs and the writers for sidelining an interracial couple in favor of what we’re getting, especially since the storyline literally handwaved away human trafficking and slavery as minor plot points?

Not only that, when there’s unrealized potential for a non-canon ship there is typically an outpouring of fic in response, and while there’s been a statistically significant amount of new Karolsen fic in S2 because it’s pretty easy to top zero percent, the writing there is not keeping pace with any of the other dude-involved pairings. 

And you’re right, anon: it is not possible to prove anything with stats. HOWEVER, thanks to the addition of these new characters for S2, I *am* at the point now where it’s possible to see correlation between character race and fan engagement with different pairing choices. And the bias is there, whether it’s in the het pairings, the femslash, or even the m/m pairings. The whole reason I started tracking fic outputs in the first place was that any attempt to have this conversation last year devolved into yelling and finger-pointing because “you have no proof!” that racial bias is a thing. Except, yanno, all the POC who live with it daily saying that it’s a thing. Well, congratulations y’all: your choices leave digital footprints behind that are pretty easy to follow and chart for everyone to see.

This isn’t actually a new problem, by the way – racism and preferencing of white pairing happens a lot, in almost every fandom. The only difference maybe is that I’ve experimented with quantifying it, which is not something that people usually do when they study fandoms or fan behavior.

It pains me to no end that M’gann has been so overlooked, because her story has just as many dark character beats to it as Lena’s, if not more, plus the added bonus of her sharing a sense of “otherness” with Kara in a way that few other people can. And there is no way the disinterest in that pairing isn’t about race, because there are a whole bunch of ships from S1 between white women who’d never even met each other in canon that have more romantic fics than M’gann/anyone.

And the nonsense about Floriana, which I’ll remind everyone again was started by a white girl, had a demonstrable chilling effect on interest in Sanvers as a pairing. Like. I can actually show that on paper. And you’re absolutely right with what you said above, which bears repeating: Maggie is absolutely treated like a woc in how parts of fandom aggressively ignore her & find ways to demonize her character.

There’s also a treatment of Floriana herself that reminds me uncomfortably of how people went out of their way to demonize Naya Rivera’s personal life whenever she reminded the world she was black instead of just “very tan.” And a lot of the rhetoric people are using to talk about Floriana’s racial heritage is almost verbatim the same as what you’ll find on white supremacist discussion boards about Italian people. I’d love to think this is an accident, but I’ve made some people pretty angry for pointing this out in the past, so I suspect it’s at least partially deliberate.

Lucy was another case that drove me insane, for two reasons:

The vast majority of femslash fans flat-out ignored her as a romantic choice even though there were a whole lot of good reasons to ship her with either Kara or Alex, and a whole lot less negative reasons not to. (And it’s not like Supercat was already dominating the scene before Lucy’s character was introduced. That ship only became popular after the movie Carol came out during the winter hiatus of S1.)

People had the same fight last year about whether or not Lucy counted as a WOC and ultimately insisted that the answer was no. But then people kept on ignoring her anyway like somehow dubiously legal boss/employee relationships, potential treason, and incest were more logical bases for attraction.

Also, to the people who have been like “oh yay we could’ve had Dichen as Maggie, a real WOC” like somehow this would have made the fandom love her more – you’re full of shit. If you mean that, why has there been so little fic about Dichen as Roulette? Like, last year there were a whole bunch of shipfics featuring Livewire. There was Kara/Siobhan. And yet … no dark scenarios of Supergirl/Roulette? No Alex ones? There were even a bucketload of those for each Danvers sister + Max Lord, and this fandom isn’t even that into dudes. You’re telling me no one is interested in this kind of hero/villain dynamic with the Asian chick and somehow that’s not also about race?

tl;dr I suspect that a decent chunk of this problem is the result of subconscious bias, but some of it’s not. And what’s really sad about it is that, for all the talk on Tumblr about representation being important, we’re really doing no better as media producers than Hollywood when it comes to race. If anything, we might actually be doing worse.

suggestions for tumblr staff:

add a blacklist feature that works both on desktop and the mobile app. let us blacklist posts containing certain words/block certain posts. i’ve lost count of the number of people i’ve unfollowed bc i was scrolling through my dash on mobile and they posted a bunch of porn or some shit out of nowhere or a bunch of long-ass posts that lagged/crashed my app. seriously being able to block those obnoxious “do you love the color of the sky” or “are fedoras really that bad” kinds of posts on mobile would be a fucking godsend.

remove best stuff first. ok seriously though. i’m fairly certain NOBODY likes this setup on their feed. on ANY social media platform. it’s chronologically confusing and it hurts smaller-time artists by not giving their work the exposure it needs to get noticed. i turned this shit off as soon as it dropped and it STILL fucks with the order of my dash. it literally makes entire chunks of it repeat themselves for no reason, and, again, that’s with the option OFF. AND this update broke the notifications on the activity page for some reason, which made a lot of said notifications not even show up, and as an artist who posts my art pretty frequently, it felt kinda bad not seeing any feedback in my activity feed. a post would get like 10 notes and i wouldn’t be able to see any of them. 

fix that thing that makes ask posts untrimmable on mobile. i don’t know why this happens, but this really shouldn’t be too hard to fix.

let people block anons on mobile. seriously, this used to be an option. why is this feature only available on desktop now? it’s a useful feature. put it back on mobile. and in that same vein, add a report option to mobile. that’s one thing mobile could really use. not everyone has access to a desktop, and those people can still get harassed, but they can’t really speak up about it.

let people stop getting ads from certain advertisers. do you have any idea how much those fucking battlecamp/other pokemon ripoff ads pissed me off? because they pissed me off a lot. it made me livid seeing people shamelessly ripping off a far better game just to get their shitty app game more exposure. i didn’t want to see them. i even ended up manually blocking the blogs that posted them in an attempt to stop seeing them, but it didn’t work. add one of those “whoosh this away” options for certain ads.

stop putting blogs in the recommended section that haven’t been active for a certain amount of time. like maybe 4 months or something. I’m not saying delete them, just stop recommending them. i’m sick of looking through for blogs i might like and seeing that none of them have posted since fucking april or some shit.

also stop re-recommending blogs that have already been whooshed away. put them at the bottom of the list priority-wise, if anything. if i didn’t want to follow them the first time, i’m probably not gonna want to the second time.

do something about all the n/eo.//na/zi blogs and other bigoted shitty hatespeech-spitting blogs on here. delete them. ban them from making more accounts. contact local authorities if they’re making threats/harassing people and you can trace their IP back to somewhere. this is your website. if someone’s violating your ToS, actually punish them for it. don’t leave it up to third parties like the woody collective (as amusing and awesome as that was) to do the cleaning up for you.

let people send asks/submissions/replies from sideblogs. as someone whose main is an rp blog, i’d love to have a way to say hi or send a nice ask to non-rp blogs without weirding them out by contacting them via my rp blog. having separate IMs is nice, but sometimes an ask is just better suited for something, y’know?

caprice is probably a big social media presence; she posts stuff about all the other gavinners a lot; and runs a youtube account on top of having public twitter/snapchat/instagram/tumblr/facebook, probably. klav’s probably the only other one that’s even close to as active as her? so she’s probably got a big following that see the things she posts, and i think she’d use social media as an outlet to discuss her relationship  ( or, more specifically, lack thereof )  with her parents, and/or talk about her relationships with her exes as a way of maybe helping out others in similar positions? even if it’s just little messages like  “ never, EVER, let someone take advantage of you. nobody has any right to do that to you ”  or spread positivity like  “ daily reminder that you are loved and beautiful and you deserve only the best! ”  and i’d like to imagine that, maybe when she’s out in this little hole-in-the-wall cafe in LA that she loves, another customer recognizes her, and is like  “ hey, thanks for saying that stuff, ”  maybe tells her that they also have family problems/abusive ex-partners or have depression and that her messages help them out a lot. maybe caprice buys them a coffee, sits down and talks to them about both of their struggles for a while. maybe she learns their name, maybe she doesn’t, but she just wants this stranger to be happy, and she’s glad to help them get there in whatever ways she can.
