So my friend @knightsweeties has been getting me to think about DC lately. And one of the things I’ve been doing what my take would be on some of the heroes and villains. At the time we have only talked about Gotham.
So I wanted to share my Take on one of DC’s greatest Villains, The Joker
Gale Cut: The Joker
What would I do differently with the Joker?
I think the biggest problem with the joker is that DC seems to forget what the Joker is. He isn’t just some chaos loving guy dressed as a clown. No, he is a Clown that wants to make fun of society! Everything he does is for the sake of the bit! That’s what the joker is, a clown committed to the bit in an insane degree.
All his plans need to revolve around a joke, and if the joke isn’t funny, he won’t do it.
Now for example. Joker could be reading the newspaper and see how the cost of fuel has gone up.
So what does he do? He fills the entire street with Whoopee cushions because he wanted to show Gotham has a real “Gas Problem”
Or
Maybe he runs into a renown surgeon and decides to cut his limbs off and reattach them so he can have him “In stitches”
Or maybe Gotham is having a lobster festival. So Joker decides to light the coast line on fire. To help bring things to… A boil.
The point is Joker only wants to make jokes and do what’s funny to him.
Is he still psychotic and kills people? Absolutely, but only if he thinks it’s funny.
Joker will never do something if he doesn’t find it amusing. Thats the point. He only cares about the comedy of the situation.
And before anyone says this joker is soft. He is not.
He kidnapped orphans and injected them with joker venom. His joke was that “You can’t kidnap unwanted children. What I did was adoption.”
He then proceeded to blow up the orphanage with most of the staff inside and send the jokerized kids to every school in Gotham to show how the school system was “The real joke.”
————-
Now for his relationship with Harley.
Oh it’s still toxic but very different.
Joker didn’t manipulate her with some sob story.
Joker simply made her laugh. He could tell that deep down that she needed someone that got her humor. And as someone that appreciates a good sense of Humor, joker recruited Harley.
Though instead of a toxic domestic abusive relationship, I decided to go a different direction.
Joker doesn’t understand emotions, and thus Doesn’t get that Harley is in love with him. If she ever confessed to him, he would look confused and ask what the punchline is?
To Joker, Harley is someone that can provide feedback if a joke is funny. And if she likes the joke. More of a reason to do it. Because if someone else finds the joke funny, that’s even better!
Though Joker isn’t above slapstick if Harley messes up his plans. But it’s never a portrayal of abuse in the domestic abuse sense. More like him slapping her with a trout.
To Harley, Joker is someone that showed her the truth. Society is a joke, and all it needs are people to show the people the punchline.
Now if something were to happen to Harley or if Harley stopped getting the joke. Joker would shrug and move on. He does value her insight and her opinion, but to say it is genuine care is incorrect. If it means a funny enough gag. He’d kill her without hesitation.
—————-
Joker being in love with Batman is dumb to me. He’s also not Batman’s true opposite. So for their dynamic I actually did change it.
Joker sees Batman as the funniest Joke in Gotham. A grown man dressed as a bat fighting crime in a city more corrupt than anywhere else? That’s pure comedy.
Joker even asked Batman to team up with him early on. “You’re a bat, I’ve been driven bats. We’d be a great comedy duo!”
But what joker found out was that Batman has no sense of humor. He needs to make this man laugh!
Joker views Batman as the straight man in the comedy routine. Having him react is what he wants!
Batman sees Joker as insane, and in need of help. So despite everything, believes there is still someone that can be saved.
Joker doesn’t care about Batman’s identity. It would be like finding out the punchline to a joke without the set up. And if anyone tried to spoil it. He would kill them.
Now Joker is willing to kill Batman, but only if the way he kills him would be funny enough to justify killing him. Joker only cares about what’s funnier
————
What’s Joker’s backstory?
It doesn’t matter. And joker likes it that way. All he knows is that he had one REALLY bad day. And that’s all he needs to know.
Anything else would be unnecessary.

the fundamental difference between katniss and gale.
katniss contrasts the people from the seam and the merchants, because she knows the former have it rougher, but she not only knows the anger towards the merchants would be misdirected, but she also learns that peeta, who had it easier than her, isn’t as wealthy as she imagined, that his family, despite not battling starvation, only eats the leftovers because they can’t afford fresh food. her only friend at school is the mayor’s daughter, someone gale resents.
so the problem must be with the other people in the districts. but it’s not, and katniss knows the capitol tries to keep the districts alienated from each other to fuel the feeling of distrust and discourage their union. she learns from rue that people in district 11, for example, also struggle to put food on the table, despite its economy being agriculture, workers there can’t eat what they harvest.
would the problem be the careers, who eat better and train their whole lives to win the games and get the glory? but they are children as much as any other tribute. she can’t bring herself to hate marvel. despite him killing rue, he also appeared vulnerable in his death. cato’s death is much crueler, and after katniss’ act of mercy, both her and peeta feel hollow at his death. the problem isn’t with the other tributes too. meanwhile gale compares killing other tributes to killing animals.
so it has to be the capitol citizens… but she still can’t bring herself to hate them, because not only katniss understands they have different upbringings, and she herself wonders how different she would be if she was raised in their environment, but she learns that, despite being sometimes alienated to the point of acting insensitive, most of them are willing to help, they cry for her for having to return to the games and they respect and are nice to her mother. katniss doesn’t want her team to be tortured at district 13, because she knows it’s wrong, something gale can’t bring himself to comprehend, simply because they are from the capitol.
katniss’ anger isn’t misdirected, she remembers who the real enemy is, which would be snow, but also coin, the political leaders that put the people in those positions for their own interest and safety. i don’t believe gale would kill children wholeheartedly, but he does believe in “necessary evils”, like taking the easier solution with the nut, the one that would have more casualties, and he designed the bombs that killed children and healers and sisters. so where do you exactly draw the line when it’s all extremism?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
gale and katniss have the same upbringing, have gone through similar experiences, losing their fathers on the same accident, signing up for the tesserae, battling against starvation, getting their district bombed, but they go on opposite directions. gale falls into extremism because he sees human life as expendable. katniss extends her compassion, because rebellion comes from loving humanity and believing a better life is possible. fire can’t burn enough to turn everything into ashes. the last chapter or the epilogue isn’t a surprise, it’s just a synthesis of what has been going for three books.

I know it has been said before but the girl + two guys trio is really unbeaten. Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Lockwood, George, and Lucy. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth. Peeta, Finnick, and Katniss.

Bucky, very seriously: You need to stop doing weird things to cope with the stress. Going outside might help. Buck: I went to the park today. Bucky: There you go! I hope you got something from that. Buck, opening his coat: This duck.

Obsessed with how Gortash in "Empty Prayers" AU fits in with the team.
He is a failed chosen of god, as well as Gale, Shadowheart, Nemo and somewhat even Lae'zel.
He is the war criminal type with a really cool class/subclass. He has (bad) history with Karlach and Wyll (due to kidnapping of his father) and (good) history with Nemo.
The party of Gale, Nemo, Gortash and Astarion is pretty much "bad and/or questionable decisions" bingo. They can not be allowed to go out exploring like that because things will go badly (for everyone else involved).
He wants to rule the world, but doesn't have the means to anymore + his former patron god WILL torture him endlessly if he dies, so he cannot die.
He WILL have to learn to rely on other people bc not only he doesn't have a choice in that, but his own survival is closely linked to how well he'll adjust to the new reality.
He probably tries to avoid sleeping or sleeps as little as possible at first because he doesn't trust anyone in the camp but Nemo, and Nemo is kind of the reason of his downfall, so it's complicated.
Nemo has to convince him to sleep and stay guard for him because Enver lowering his defenses amidst strangers and enemies? Absolutely not.
The awful adjustment from being at the top of the world to being at the end of the food chain (again). The determination to climb back no matter what.
The fact what he wears his coat at all times bc without he is vulnerable to fear and that won't go.
Bonus point: Bane not answering his prayers and abandoning him while Bhaal tries to claim Nemo over and over again.
The "my god left me" VS "your god can't leave you alone". Hating Nemo for still having his god's attention, pitying Nemo because Bhaal is the last god you want to be acknowledged by.

I don't go here but you're so right about gale, that's all
he is AWKWARD and ENDEARING and TOO SMART FOR HIS OWN GOOD
he has a CAT, a LIBRARY, and a self-professed WEAKNESS FOR A GOOD GLASS OF WINE
in all seriousness though, he is such a great character and i love him a lot!! he's definitely one of my top 3 baldursgate characters (shadowheart and wyll tie for #1 depending on my mood lol) and he deserves to be appreciated more!

astarion is so fucking funny as a character because conceptually he hits all the marks of a wet cat blorbo but in practice he's unbelievably hard to stand. i'll be on the bg3 companion guide and have to start CRYING from trying to find the shit under his section that gains approval. loses -15 points for gently suggesting we not massacre an orphanage in cold blood with the d&d equivalent of a nuclear warhead

I still have to finish act 3 and i want to wait a long time before replaying bc i can't do instant replays of games it feels weird. Also I need to do job stuff like remember when I was actively looking for more gigs? But if i ever replay bg3 should I make a new character that romances wyll or should i play AS wyll 🤔 i've been told playing as an origin character gives you some different dialogue/changes things a little and if I want more insight into anyone it's him
