oh boy im not a writer and my only WIP is a malted milk pancake recipe, but i am all for asking questions

so lets hear about It’s Like Everything Glows <3

Oh dear, I’m sorry to have bothered you then— I could not remember if I had seen you mention something or if I was imagining it 😅

But for It’s Like Everything Glows— it was going to be a one-shot, just a classic diplomats romance with a nice pump of angst. However I keep having ideas for it. I think it’s going more the direction of “Elain has a breakdown and leaves the Night Court, then realizes that her real home was elsewhere all along!” because I love that plot. Plus, I really want to explore how she interacts with other Fae, who she never knew at all before she was Made.

And for Lucien’s pov— this is really just a case for me to bring back some of ACOTAR Lucien (with a nice large dash of angst). Top tier content, and we have been robbed of it.

Right now, it’s more of a large collection of snippets. I want to pin them together into a few proper chapters. Here are a couple snippets:

Happy Moon Festival! 🌕

there's a bunch of holidays today, Mid-Autumn Festival, Tsukimi, Chuseok and more! all dated on the day of the brightest full moon!

and since i had some time, i thought i'd draw all my moons and some yummy festival sweets (all prepared by chef Moon of course!)

some intros:

Moonie's from my chibi AU, "Rain or Shine". a rambunctious little guy who loves playing with his Sunny

Moondrop's from my hairdresser AU, "New 'Do, Same You". a Moon in a glamrock-style casing, who's pretty chill but insecure

Mooncake's from my restaurant AU, "Have You Eaten?" a hopeless romantic chef who loves cooking yummy foods!

13's from my dystopian AU. he's a sheltered, naive little Moon bot who is curious to learn about the world outside the palace

Miel is from my idol AU. she's an ex-Moon bot, turned nanny bot, turned rapper of an idol duo (she sings too tho!)

and the menu:

tsukimi dango are plain Japanese dumplings made of rice flour and glutinous rice flour, resembling the full moon

mooncakes are Chinese treat with various skins and fillings, but traditionally they are a pastry filled with lotus seed paste and a salted duck egg yolk to resemble the full moon

songpyeon are a Korean rice cake with various types of fillings—red beans, dates, sesame seeds, honey, and more!

Will is the golden Retriever boyfriend and Nico is the owner that is an actual simp for said golden retriever boyfriend.

I am fully convinced that Nico spoils Will and he has no idea that it’s not that normal anymore (cause back when Nico was a kid, being a gentleman was expected and nothing else.)

When Percy decided to tell Nico that getting rare and expensive flowers for your lover every morning wasn’t normal, and neither was getting expensive jewelry and going and expensive dates to France every month wasn’t normal, Nico called society weird and continued to do so.

Will probably had a mental breakdown about every two days when they first started dating.

( I just love the head cannon that Nico being in relationship means like, 1900s gentleman relationship, cause that’s how he was raised.)

I really liked “I Saw The TV Glow” for a lot of reasons like the lighting and sound design and stuff

But I also really liked it because how similar I felt to it. Like you watch a show you love so much you want to Be In It and all you do is interact with That Show to the point where you start talking like it and you make everything you see like it because you don’t Know anything else

I really liked owens character because of how Stuck he is in his life. He says he doesn’t think about “that stuff” because it makes him feel gross so he doesnt. He takes a job at a place he doesn’t like and when it gets shut down he goes with the manager to the next place also doing a job he hates. When his parents die he lives in the same house he grew up in because he doesn’t want to leave. He had one friend and when she disappeared presumed dead he didn’t do anything but reminiscenced on his time with her and watching the show she helped him watch. You can also see how he starts taking care of himself less after his father died, in the last scenes of the movie he looks like he barely eats or drinks water, he doesn’t do anything but his job. “Years feel like seconds” because he isn’t doing anything of importance he lost everything that he looked forward too

He doesn’t talk above a normal speaking volume until he’s literally DYING and even after he apologizes still out of breath. He’s still dying then. No one responds to his apologies or responded to him when he was screaming

He gets a chance to leave and go with Maddie to The Pink Opaque and he gets scared, he gets a chance to leave with her when he was younger and he gets scared. He’s so unhappy with his life but he doesn’t want to change it because he doesn’t know what else to do

feels significant that in i saw the tv glow, the pink opaque is canceled at the end of its 5th season. in prime time television, if a tv show makes it to 100 episodes, it can be purchased for syndication - tv stations can buy the rights to rerun existing episodes of the show. in the 90s, when 20ish episodes per season of tv was the norm, usually the milestone of 100 episodes was reached at the end of season 5. selling syndication rights earned production companies a lot of money, so even unprofitable shows would often continue to get renewed just so they would hit that 100 episode mark and hopefully earn a profit in syndication. the flip side of this is that once that 100 episode mark has been reached, the production company may be more reluctant to renew the show. it might be ultimately more profitable to cancel a show at season 5 and earn money through syndication rather than continue to produce the show.

the pink opaque getting canceled at the end of season 5 evokes this context. it also kind of fits with the themes of the film. owen’s refusal to leave the midnight realm dooms the pink opaque as it exists there to a fate of endless repetition, the same material recycled over and over again in syndication, with no new episodes permitted to be created. whereas tara’s return to the world of the show allows the pink opaque to be renewed for season 6. new and exciting things are allowed to happen. the story continues.
