i def feel that HAHA i think in every fandom people will interpret characters in their own ways but some characters (ex rin, shidou, barou) tend to have pretty standard fandom characterizations from fic to fic (now whether i AGREE with these standard characterizations is a separate thing but at least they are consistent) and others can be completely diff depending on who the author is. i think kaiser (and to a lesser extent nagi and sae) is subject to the latter where everyone sees him in a slightly diff way so it’s hard to nail down which version of him YOU want to write yk.

AHHH i feel like kaiser is a really good character to write darker stuff for so i do think that if i wrote for him it would be a heavier story than what i’ve been putting out recently. and we shall ignore the haircut…tbh rooting for a kainess breakup because long hair kaiser/man bun kaiser is so MAJESTIC i think ness gives him the shitty haircut on purpose so he can gatekeep

nagi plot under the cut!! heheh it’s pretty convoluted and also atm just a bunch of rough notes on my ipad…i would have to try writing the first chapter a couple of times to see if it even flowed the way i wanted it to and to make the according adjustments if it was something w potential so even if i do ever end up writing this particular story the finished product might be very different than this!! that said i am in fact sharing the entire outline so i fear you will not be very surprised by any plot twists if i ever work on this or post it

basically it’s a mix of a couple of fics for other fandoms that i never got around to writing + some newer ideas that i have had!! the main cast of characters is ofc y/n and nagi but also rin is there!! and sae and reo but they’re secondary to the main trio

it starts off in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters and which has a loose oligarchy-type government. y/n is the bastard child of duke l/n, who is the head of one of the influential government families. when she’s youngish (twelve or so??) her mother dies and officials attempt to arrest her for identity fraud when she claims that she must be sent to the l/n estate as they are her only surviving family. she manages to escape and learns how to use some weapon (either a sword or a spear idk atm) to kill monsters as she has a strong desire to protect those less fortunate than her, as well as to prove herself and one day find her father so she can have a family again.

on the other hand nagi is the eternal warrior (there would be a more researched title for him but atm this is my placeholder) whose original self was there 1000 years ago when the apocalypse began and was the only one able to fight back against the monsters when they appeared. he has been reincarnating (though WITHOUT his memories LMAOAO he’s not ancient i prommy he just looks the same/has the same name in every lifetime) and once people viewed him as a defender of the people, but a while ago the mikages (another one if the influential families) took custody of him and he’s basically been their enforcer for the past 100 years so people kinda hate him. he is kind of jaded and lonely after witnessing/causing so many deaths and he doesn’t see much of a point to life besides following whatever orders reo/the mikages give him and killing who he’s told to.

at some point nagi is told to kill y/n (it’s revealed eventually that it’s because duke l/n realized she’s out there and called in a favor w the mikages but we don’t know that at first) but instead of killing her he ends up saving her life. even he can’t explain why he took the initiative to disobey orders for the first time so he decides he’ll stick with her for the time being until he can figure it out (plus going back to the mikages isn’t really an option considering he’s gone against them)

while y/n + nagi are on the run, they meet rin, who is VERY confused about a lot of things. the itoshis are basically the family above all of the other families, and he’s supposed to be their heir, plus he has memories of having a great childhood with his parents and older brother, but for some reason he finds himself on the street with nothing but a note in his fist that says “don’t trust father and sae”. nagi and y/n decide that rin’s goals of trying to reclaim his position as heir and figure out the meaning of the note (which is in his own handwriting though he doesn’t remember it) align with theirs of finding duke l/n and. just chilling ig?? idk nagi is kinda there at that point HAHA. anyways so they all decide they’ll work together.

a bunch of stuff happens blah blah this entire part will come to me when i’m actually writing LMAOOO. anyways then it’s revealed that before getting thrown out, rin realized that if he ever got to close to asking questions/getting curious about the apocalypse, he’d suddenly forget what he was doing (in an unnatural way not just him being dumb), so he began writing down notes to himself to keep track of his suspicions. however he is found out and his notes are burned before he’s cast out and his memories selectively erased, though he managed to save the note telling him not to trust his family so that he didn’t end up falling into the same pattern again.

rin reveals that sae has the power to alter memories, and that he suspects the itoshis (plus the other influential families) also have some knowledge of how the apocalypse began and how it can be ended/the monsters gotten rid of for good. y/n reaches duke l/n but he rejects her and says he wishes he sent nagi after her sooner, and that he also regrets sending them any money at all because things would’ve been better if she would’ve died as a kid. nagi manages to round up the members of the influential families (#boyboss 😜) and sae has a change of heart from seeing rin again after so long; he says that there is a way that they can stop the apocalypse from ever happening, but that means that the influential families lose the power they obtained after the fall of the world, so they’ve been hiding it from everyone since they discovered it.

every generation, an itoshi is born with the power to wipe memories and send one person back in time. with that power, they could conceivably return to the beginning of the apocalypse and prevent it from ever happening. sae is the one with that power in the present and he decides that having wealth/whatever isn’t worth the destruction of the world, so he agrees to send back y/n, as he believes she has the best chance at managing to set things right.

y/n travels back in time and meets the first version of nagi, who ends up falling in love with her. unfortunately even before the apocalypse things were kinda unsettled as everyone realized Something was going to happened, and eventually a world war breaks out, which og nagi and y/n get involved in. y/n is fatally wounded at one point, but before she dies she manages to tell og nagi everything about the future and how he has to stop the box containing the beginning of the apocalypse from being opened. sadly og nagi invented being down bad and he is so distraught by her death that he opens the box and curses himself to the cycle of reincarnation so that he can meet her in the future.

y/n wakes up back in the future unsuccessful and also shocked that the one who started the apocalypse was nagi (even though current nagi has no clue about any of this). sae is furious that she wasted his power and didn’t actually accomplish anything, but at some point rin realizes he also has that power?? not the memory part he just can also send her back to the past…not sure why this is the case but it’ll come to me as i’m writing and hopefully not feel like an asspull DHSKSJSJ. anyways even though she’s lowkey traumatized y/n agrees to try one more time.

og nagi falls in love with her again ofc (we’re three for three here if you all are keeping track) but before the world war can break out, y/n kills nagi. he is understandably shocked but instead of being angry at her he tells her she must’ve had a reason and dies decently happy considering he was murdered for something he hadn’t even done yet 😭 because nobody else has the knowledge of where the box is besides y/n, the apocalypse is averted, and the world war is concluded in a relatively typical way instead of supernaturally, so life goes on as best as it can.

however, y/n is then stranded in that timeline of 1000 years ago, without anyone she knows (as og nagi is obviously dead and the others aren’t born yet). she can’t return to a future which doesn’t exist so she’s just stuck there for the rest of her life.

the epilogue is a series of letters she writes to nagi and rin, detailing her life and how she misses them. the last letter is addressed to nagi, wherein she explains that death is coming for her soon and she hopes that wherever she ends up next is the same place that he is. it’s kinda unclear whether she’s talking to og nagi or her nagi from the no-longer-future but you know me and my open endings 🤩 leaving it up to reader interpretation is my fav thing and i will do so at the slightest provocation

Kelley had been a model since she was 13 and got a job with Victoria’s Secret when she was 19. She grew up in California and that was where she stayed most of her life. Though she did have to travel a lot for work, she loved it.

A/N: So this is some headcannons I cam up with based on the concept of the Top Gun boys to be dating a Victoria’s Secret Angel. And for me personally it is easier to make an OC than do a reader insert so that what most of my works are going to be just a little FYI for everyone.

God this man would be so cocky being able to call her his. He would brag about having the hottest girlfriend in the world. That she is an actual angel. The Dagger Squad wouldn’t believe him at first, how could a douche like Hangman get a girl as perfect as the one he is describing. Then they met her and every word was true, she was the most perfect human ever. Gorgeous beyond belief, sweet as could be, down to earth. Rooster even asked if it was all a dare, she just laughed him off. Hangman would try to show them every picture she sent him, loving being able to show her off. As annoying as it was at times, they completely understood. Who wouldn’t want to show her off?

This boy did not know how he got her. She was the most gorgeous and amazing person he ever met. Hangman would give him shit about her being out of his league, but she would shut that down immediately. She loved Bob for who he was. It didn’t matter what he looked like, plus she loved these glasses on him. He would get all red when she sent him pictures from her shoots. The Dagger Squad met her the first night, she was one of Nat’s friends. Hangman tried to hit on her, but she wasn't interested. She only had eyes for the quiet, adorable guy in the corner. she asked Nat about him, that was her WSO whom she told her stories about. He was a bumbling mess when she approached him, he had never seen a more pretty girl in his life. And the rest was history.

Now he knew how gorgeous she was and he made sure she knew it too, but around the squad, he acted nonchalant about it. Like he wasn’t dating an actual supermodel. But that was because she was more than that to him. She didn’t tell him right off the bat what she did. She had been used too many times. she told him on y’all’s 5-month anniversary. He never changed how he treated her. He was fiercely protective over her, especially at the Hard Deck. He knew how not only men thought, but aviators thought and that was a dangerous combination around such a gorgeous girl. She thought it was cute when he got overprotective, cause she knew that she only had eyes for him. When y'all got married it would be at the courthouse, in secret, but after Nat saw a ring around his neck they had a huge party to celebrate.

He is a cocky mix of hangman and the protectiveness of Rooster. He wouldn’t tell the other guys what you did. Just that he had the most gorgeous girlfriend ever and he would say Mav could never meet her (he does and jokes about how such a gorgeous woman was with Iceman). Mav also happened to be the one who recognized her for being an Angel. Ice would love for you to do a little fashion show for him with whatever you were able to bring home from work. (And love to rip it off you). He met you as a model and has supported you the whole way through your career. He will always try his hardest to be at every show of yours and can do so more as he climbs up the ranks.

Oh boy, he is almost as cocky as Hangman. Would never shut up about how smoking hot his girl is (would say it that way too). She fell for him because of his humor and he fell for her because of how stunning and kind she is. They met at the bar, due to Mav’s and Goose’s ‘lost that loving feeling’ routine. She wouldn’t want to tell him what she did, but he found out one day when he saw her picture in the Victoria's Secret window at the mall. She thought he would be mad for her not telling him, but it was the opposite. He was over the moon to be lucky enough to have an actual angel as his girlfriend. Would beg you to give him a little fashion show and to let him come to every show. And yes he would, and yes he paid for it when he got back to base (Ice saved his ass most of the time though)

Show off to the max. Due to y‘all being high school sweethearts, he knew you before being a Victoria's Secret model. That doesn't stop him from letting everyone know who his girlfriend, later his wife and mother to his child, is. Would be like a kid in a candy store when you showed him pictures or saw pictures of your shoots. He would be the biggest show-off. Your pictures would be all over his locker, in his helmet, in the pocket of his flight suit, and pretty much anywhere he could put a picture you would be there.

Honestly I didn't think it was weird to ship still while for shonen BL ships it becomes more controversial in the english fandom so one can't say anything. But writing issue yeah. Gosho wanting to merge two mangas whose worldbuilding shouldn't mix nd its too old school of him. If he did this 2000s I'd have accept but Magic Kaito cannot exist in the same universe even though he keep retconning

For many the cousin reveal isn't a big deal on the basis of them being cousins, if you get what I mean, it's more the horrible writing behind the decision people are pissed off with. Though it seems even antis in the English fandoms are giving Kaishin a free pass to ship it as they recognize the ass-pull this is and that is saying something.

And your right about the MK and DC world being something that is hard to merge and it's clear from the retcons this is the case. I bet Akako will be a character that is forgotten due to her magic being too illogical for the DC universe. Kaitou KID was already a stretch but the myth of Pandora could still work in DC using the logic that a fanatic group believes it to be real and will kill over it even though the gem doesn't exist (though it does ruin KIDs story).

Its a mess and honestly I'm kind of curious how much more messy it will become.

Mini-Review: Bee and PuppyCat: Lazy in Space

Bee, an unemployed woman in her early twenties, encounters a mysterious creature she terms PuppyCat. She adopts this apparent cat-dog hybrid, and together they go on a series of temporary jobs to pay off her monthly rent. These bizarre jobs take the duo across strange worlds out in space.

This is the kind of show I often enjoy, episodic while expanding the world and our view as the stories pass; humorous without making me cringe.

It's a very fun show that looks like its aimed at kids, and would probably be fine for that audience--it's not adult humor in the vein of things like The Simpsons or Rick and Morty, but it feels like adults are the audience because of the atmosphere.

Bee is a mess, in a recognizable way: she's been fired from her job for possibly valid reasons but also partially for taking the blame for someone else. She's aimless: if it wasn't for the rent being due, she wouldn't really be looking for another job.

The aimlessness of being an adult, yet not automatically having things all together, is a running theme. Bee definitely doesn't. Her best friend and neighbor, Deckard, is struggling to decide between following his passion, and staying where he is in a predictable environment with friends and family.

His sister Cas gave up a passion project in favor of the predictable work and stability of software engineering, something she has complicated feelings about. Their landlord, Cardamom, seems to have everything all together, except he's a 7-year-old with no adult supervision, and as the episodes go on you realize that his straightforward approach to life is actually a child being forced to handle things that are an adult's domain.

The setting is also fun: it's hard to tell whether things like toilets be a place to store food instead of, well, bodily functions are normal, or why a 7-year-old seriously acting as a landlord doesn't seem to raise many comments. Is this a fantasy land where things are just kind skewed anyway? Or are Bee and her neighbors extra-odd? In that way, it reminds me a bit of Steven Universe, with its mix of cartoon reality and non-main characters eventually making clear that they think this is weird, too.

The actual fantastical bits are interesting, too. We get information about Puppycat towards the end, but he definitely has secrets, and Bee isn't as straightforward as she appears at the beginning, either. Their visits to other planets/dimensions (?) to earn money would be an interesting show even without showing any of their home lives.

You can definitely see the influences of classic magical girl anime, but this show is also the answer to the premise: what if magical girl, but tired adult? What if magical girl, but it's just kinda a job?

Verdict

Voices: Very good! They sound very...realistic, not super polished. I don't mean that they sound like inexperienced voice actors, I mean that they sound real and variable, which isn't common in voice acting. I really enjoyed them.

Also, special shoutout to my favorite character, Toast, whose first line had me wracking my brain to figure out why did her voice sound SO familiar and why was her voice affecting something in my emotions until I looked it up, and her voice actress is the English voice of Sailor Moon/Serena that I grew up with!

Visuals: Vibrant and pastel colors, a very round cartoon style, it feels modern and cozy.

Worth watching? Yes! On one hand, it's just a fun series, the balance between "just living life as an aimless young adult" and "brightly-colored fantastical adventures" is done well. The supporting cast of characters is great and entertaining. And on the other hand, it's also nice to watch a cartoon that feels very much like the target audience are adults, but not because the show is raunchy. I really hope we get another season someday.

Where to watch (USA, as of September 2023): Netflix. Note that a 10-episode original web animation (titled Bee and Puppycat without any subtitle) can be found on Youtube; the Netflix series I watched is both a reboot (covers the original series' material in a few episodes) and then continuation. After asking advice on here, general consensus was that newbies starting with the Netflix series is a good idea, but there's nothing wrong with the older, original web animation.

1) Who fell first? Who fell harder? depends who you ask. it's a tricky one due to. well. past life stuff... & also how their dynamic started out in current times. for the sake of simplicity though: emet fell much much sooner, & hilde fell much much harder. helps that the guy fucking died on him at his own hands ngl if i was already having conflicted feelings i couldn't quite place i think that'd get me too <- saying this about a self insert he introjected

2) Who is the one who fusses the most? Does their S/O mind very much? you knowwwww it's emet & it's not even close... hilde can fuss here & there but he's also really bad at taking care of himself & emet is number 1 complainer in the whole wide world. he WILL complain about hilde forgetting to take care of his skin, his scales, his meals, how he threw himself into life-threatening danger for the third time this month, how hilde cut his hair just short enough that he can't mess with it as much as he'd like, so on so forth. hilde doesnt mind. sometimes it makes him feel a little guilty but mostly they're proof emet cares, so it's a net positive to him. makes him feel loved

12) What is something their S/O does that makes them flustered? in hilde's case emet will do a lot of things specifically to fluster him so it's hard to list them..... he teases a lot. cant help himself. hilde is less the tease type but whenever he gets really assertive in a situation it does leave emet a bit dazed. depending on what kind of situation it may very well fluster the hell out of him. another thing though. referring to emet as his wife is something hilde did once for fun, he noticed it made emet shortcircuit for a moment & he just kept doing it afterwards (emet gets back at him by proposing first)

31) How would they describe one another. really depends who they're talking to... also at what point in time they're being asked. in the time where they're more stable & Fine though i'd imagine something like "a worrisome fool with a heart too big for his own good always recklessly throwing himself into some danger or another", & "i don't expect anyone to believe it, but despite everything i've seen his heart, and it is good". or on another day "why, the sweetest man you could possibly imagine - especially endearing when he nearly drinks from his pot of ink rather than his cup" & "oh, just the reason i've been late to every morning obligation i've had this past month". they both deeply care of course. emet views hilde as someone with a little too much kindness & compassion (mixes very well with his own crushing guilt but this isn't abt him) but he also knows the "ugly" sides of him very intimately. he once had some reservations regarding them, but nowadays he'd argue they make hilde's kindness hotter. & of course he finds the uglier parts thrilling. he would hardly ever describe him like that, because hes not telling people intimate, private things about his lover, but he's thinking them! hilde of course thinks emet is a grump with a kind heart because that's just what he is. there's a loooot emet has done that is downright unforgivable & he wouldn't deny it (& would've held it against him better/longer if the grief hadn't consumed him to the point it did) but he also wouldn't like. describe him as a seasoned war criminal LMAO. he sees emet for who he is now but also who he used to be, & how who he used to be still shines through despite all the things he's been through. which is reciprocated in a weird way. so he'd call emet a prodigious sorcerer, one praised for his willingness to lend a hand despite his protests, & would encourage people to not be deterred by his perhaps unpleasant facade. that he no longer is the villain he played in the countless stories in which he was a pawn of zodiark. that he is loving & good. sorry i'm getting a little too into it what were we talking about

Theory that the fall of humanity in the Eriverse happens indirectly due to the whole Cori and Meri situation.

Cori and Meri are entities who caused massive damage as entities that are tied to parasocial relationships. NSR (and music magic in general) is kinda reliant on parasocial relationship (since it is powered by fan energy and good musicians do end up with parasocial relationships).

NSR is not able to power as much energy since people are now afraid of causing a second Cori and Meri situation and stop being fans/stop making as much music as they used to.

Over the decades, the lack of energy in the world becomes worse than before the Rock Revolution.

... making it easier for an age of chaos to start.

That's a neat theory but not what I was going for. It definitely has merit and can absolutely be a way it could go, but I'm going in a different direction with the fall of humanity!

While yes, Cori and Meri did absolutely cause a kind of fear in the world about loving a celebrity, that is more of a subconscious fear and not one many people even realize they have.

Not everyone in the world knows how entities are made, at least not for a long while (probably a few decades maybe?) as research has to be done as even entities aren't fully sure on how they come to be (not knowing about soul reincarnation or how magic is used to pick what kind of entity you will be, or even how love and hate can create entities as entities Rika and Yuta need studying).

I was also gonna go in the opposite direction as this theory and say that places like Vinyl City, Vandelay Tech., and Bigweld Industry end up making safe havens in the world where humanity and robot kind can life with protection from wild entities who do not care about making peace with the humans (there are gonna be places with just robots, just humans, just entities, and mixes of the three).

The reason these places are important is because they can create defenses against things like Discord and the Diamond's corruption beam(s) which are the two main sources of humanity's downfall (which is why it is called the Great Corruption and the Age of Chaos).

At least that is what I was going for. Where humans, robots, and entities end up getting along fairly well after the domains happen only for Discord to be created as well as the rest of the Diamonds. These steps are what leads to the fall of humanity as White Diamond sees humans (as well as robots and non-gem entities) as lesser, and Discord has a ton of fun messing with everyone and causing fights amongst everyone.

It all leads up to the shattering of Pink Diamond and the imprisonment of Nightmare Moon, as well as the banishment of a large population of entities into Mount Ebott by humans which cemented the fact that humans and entities can't truly get along.

Humans end up creating places like Vinyl City (which will probably get renamed to something else, idk what tho) as hubs to stay safe from outside forces. Vinyl City is probably one of the few MAJOR cities that allows for access to all three groups. Probably. Idk.

I'm kinda talking out of my ass at this point lol. My plot for this part of the story isn't full, as I said that the 1000 years between the Culling Games and Age of Rebirth are more of vague stories that kinda explain how we got to where we are.

But yea, Cori and Meri are definitely going to be figures in the world's history, but not really enough to be the major downfall of humanity (especially if people don't even realize that they are the creation of their love for NSR Megastars as they probably won't look that closely to them as they are entities).

Ahahaha yeah. Some... uh, er, interesting things tagged. Don't really know what to say about that like you saw the posts. (For those who haven't: it's "eroticism of the machine" and cybersex kinda stuff).

They're not robots exactly (at least none yet) but the majority of the characters are from a kind of... technology dimension? So there are two (relevant) dimensions in the story, one of which is actually the Retrostatic and the other of which is unnamed but is a more normal realistic earth-like dimension (tho there are still differences). Most of the characters so far are from the Retrostatic because that's where most of the story takes place. And in that dimension everyone is in some way related to technology (usually they just. Are. some piece if technology. But not always; at times it's more complex than that). 1-800-CASH-NOW is a TV/radio demon I guess (I usually follow that up with a bunch if question marks cuz it's not super well defined), The Operator is a telephone, BaitHook_Fix.txt.bin is a piece of malware... loverboy is from the normal dimension so he's just an anthro wolf (the other dimension is populated by anthropomorphic cartoon animals). A lot of characters don't have names yet (especially if they're gonna be side or background characters) but there's also a gun, a car, a two dimensional insect, a... thing that has old gramophone music play around it... a worm with a zipper... two... flamingo jackalope unicorn snakes... it's a very loose and undefined dimension. Like that's what it's supposed to be not just "I haven't figured it out yet" (tho there is some of that too). But that does make it hard for me to build characters for it since there aren't any guidelines for me to fall back on. I just kinda have to try stuff until something works. Both in terms of design and lore.

Not directly related to what you asked, but the main characters are 1-800- and loverboy. 1-800- is a celebrity gameshow / radio show host who is the cause of the whole timeline alternate universe mess (not on purpose, it just has that effect on the world) and different versions of it keep slipping into each other's places. It's got this red-string-of-fate thing going on with loverboy (I usually call them "fate-tied") who is literally just some rando that basically gets isekai-ed into the Retrostatic. Due to that 1-800-CASH-NOW has unknowingly been searching for him since forever (time works differently between dimensions). Like 1-800- has this feeling deep within its core that doesn't understand, and it keeps being compelled to do things like pull people into its dimension. It doesn't know why or how it just does these things. And then eventually it finds loverboy and is like "oh I see now this is The Guy" because it was fate the pull of fate trying to get them together. But that exacerbates the whole "space-time dimensional instability" thing. And shit happens. Because the different versions of 1-800- have wildly different goals and ways they are tied to loverboy. Like for some it's romantic, for some it's trying to kill him, for some it's got an unhealthy obsession with him, etc. etc. and many are a mix too. And of course loverboy is thoroughly freaked out. Especially since until now the whole multidimensional spacetime alternate universe thing hasn't affected him. But now he Feels It. So they've got this very weird and fucked up relationship that is full of distrust and confusion (both around each other and themselves).

Anyway that was supposed to be succinct it's just hard to explain. There's actually so much more but this is already long as hell. Thanks for sticking around if you read all this.

I know a lot of fans who were adopted into loving family that felt betrayed by the retcon because it threw Nightcrawler's foster family under the bus and completely undid the justified anger Nightcrawler had towards his biological parents. It's so rare to find adopted characters that are allowed to not want to deal with their biological parents after they willingly decided to be awful to them especially when the story doesn't portray the abandoned children as ungrateful or less than understanding and plain resentful. Because regardless of the mindwipe, Mystique used Nightcrawler's lineage against him many times. Regardless of the mindwipe, Mystique still exhibited moments of care towards Nightcrawler like when she told AoA!Kurt that in their reality, their poor relationship was because the World conspired against them. Regardless of any supposed windwipe and prophecy, you had entire alternative realities that stem from 616 where she did raise him from birth all alone. Regardless of the mindwipe, you had Claremont's second run on the X-Men where Mystique treated him better after she joined the X-Men. The windwipe was not a valid excuse for her mistreatment of him since she could have acted better towards him and HAS acted better towards him on more than one instance and world. Nightcrawler now talks less like his genuine self and more like a mouthpiece as he completely forgives what has been done to him by his new biological parents, which is so bad it somehow makes what Mystique and Azazel did to him pre-retcon better in comparison ironically enough.

It must be hard, I feel like adopted people are quilted into being open minded or forgiving towards their birth families when it's like no this has to be a case by case thing and sometimes there's no good reason for why they were out up for adoption.

Personally I think Mystique should be written as someone who didn't necessarily want to give him up due to her lifestyle. Azazel was unable to raise him as far as I'm aware due to be trapped on another planet. So whilst neither would necessarily want to give him up they just couldn't raise him but they're also evil so it's kind of a mix of feelings which would ultimately lead to Kurt disliking both of them but still having some love and being willing to redeem them but only under his strict conditions.

Marvel can make up for this mess by having a scene with Kurt crying saying "How come she don't want me man?" With Margali after Mystique leaves his life again and having Margali and Kurt hug. (Putting this idea out here so someone steals it haha)

Hi! I'm just wondering if you see ant parallels between Peyton/Jake and Maya/Zig? I haven't seen Degrassi in ages, but I remember Zig as a goodhearted, fun-loving, relaxed kind of guy who finds trouble even when he doesn't ask for it, kind of like Jake - and they both sing :) Meanwhile, Maya and Peyton are both artsy and creative, tough yet sensitive. I could be totally off base here!

Hey 💕 Aw, I love that you've watched Degrassi! I like those comparisons but honestly, I never felt like there were that many parallels between Zaya and Jeyton. Jake was on another level maturity wise due to becoming a teen dad while Zig definitely acted more his age. He was much more prone to impulsive decisions and wasn't as careful with his words as he could have been in contrast to Jake, who always seemed wise. But, I do think the two couples had somewhat similar journeys in terms of being friends before they were a couple. It didn't take Jake and Peyton nearly as long as it took Zig and Maya, but both waited for the emotional connection to be there prior to dating. Story line wise, they both slept together pretty early into the relationship albeit under different circumstances. I see the Maya/Peyton similarities far more than I do ones between Zig/Jake. Both girls went through a lot of pain from a young age and spent years not really getting sufficient help in terms of mental health. Plus like you said, both were curly haired blondes with artsy vibes. But in all honesty, I feel like the Zaya relationship is more a Naley/Leyton mix? With LP, it's mainly them being each other's primary love interest from the characters' first episode on the show and at least one instance of cheating while Lucas and Zig were dating Peyton's and Maya's best friend at the time, Brooke/Tori. In both cases, they had a lot of back and forth before finally ending up together in the end. Zig's and Maya's other love interests consistently point out that their relationship isn't finished and that Zig/Maya still has feelings for the other. When it comes to Naley, I feel like some of the relationship details are more similar. Maya, like Haley, was a musician and serious about pursuing her dreams even if it came at the expense of the person she loved. Zig, similar to Nathan, was more dependent on the romantic relationship because he also wasn't living with his family by the time he was dating Maya. There's also a small moment in a later season where Zig admits when he's only sixteen that he believes he and Maya are going to get married. Lastly, there was a whole story line where Zig worried about Maya spending time with another musician because he was insecure she would leave him for the other guy. They also had a moment of cheating that I guess could parallel the Haley/Chris kiss, but in that case it was Zig rather than Maya.

Other notable Naley/Zaya parallels:

Both Haley and Maya struggled with depression towards the end of their respective shows and attempted suicide. Nathan and Zig each played some sort of role in saving them.

Much like Nathan with Haley, Zig will throw down with any guy that messes with or threatens Maya in more ways than one

Like Nathan, Zig is pretty consistent in regards to knowing Maya is it for him. He's not like Lucas where he has a new true love every other season and bounces back and forth.

Magic the Gathering: Tales of Middle-earth (Commander)

Red and Multicolor reprints

Since we have reached such a far-away point, maybe it is time to talk about how the Five Colors system was included into the world of Tolkien. I know, I know, it is quite late after several dozen posts to get into the subject, but hey, if you went this far you must be rewarded.

As usual, the designers of MtG decided beforehand what would be the "color rules" for the world, before looking at each character and element individually. As a result, in the MtG color wheel, dwarfs and goblins alike are of the Red color, and the Rohirrim are too, to show that they are driven by things such as desires, passions, revenge or brutality. The forces of Sauron and Mordor oscillate between Black and Red, the corrupting evil and the bloody violence - the Orcs are notably divided in black and red. Elves on the contrary are halfway in Blue and halfway in Green - creatures of knowledge, intellect, wisdom, superior minds and grace, but also beings deeply tied to nature, living deep within the woods, and prone to an ambiguous, mischievious, some woul say alien mindset. Blue is also the color of all things watery, from ships to the "Watcher in the Water". The Ents are of course all Green, being living trees, and the Nazgûl all Black - alongside other vicious species serving evil (Fell Beasts, Shelob, the Crebains...). The Easterlings and Haradrim oscillate between Black and Red, opposing the men of Gondor and Minas Tirith who are full White. The Giant Eagles are also full white, and so are all the things related to the "happy endings" of the Lord of the Rings (the White Tree, the Crowning of the King, the weddings, etc...). Interestingly, the ghosts of the Oathbreakers/Grey Host are also included in the White - to separate them from the other undead spirits that are more malevolent in nature, such as the Ringwraiths or the Dead Marshes, all Black.

As for the Hobbits, they are halfway in White and halfway in Green - White for being purer beings, filled with goodness, kindness and qualities (and becoming heroes in time of needs), Green because they are simple countryfolks living as farmers, gardeners and the like. Though some Hobbits are shown to become Black when their greed or gluttony takes over them - they are rare, but they still exist.

This choice of colors reflect itself in the evolution of the main characters of the novel. Gollum, as an antagonistic corrupted monster, is Black, but when his Sméagol side takes over, what is left of his old Hobbit goodness, he becomes a mix of Black and Green. Aragorn, as "Strider" starts out as a mix of Red and Green, but as the leader of the Fellowship becomes Green/White, and finally as the returning King is all White. The Balrog is the perfect mix of Black and Red. Galadriel oscillates between the Green and the White. Frodo begins Green/White as a simple Hobbit of the Shire, but as the hero of the tale turns full White. Merry and Pippin both start out full Green and through their adventures become half-White (Pippin's other half is Blue while Merry's is Red).

And both of the Wizards of the story are strongly associated with the color Blue, due to being magical entities of wisdom and knowledge. Gandalf the Grey is full Blue (with a bit of Red from time to time, to show his fiery powers and fierce fighting skills), and then as Gandalf the White becomes... Well, all White. On the other side, Saruman also starts out as all Blue, but he is the "bad" side of Blue, manipulating, lying, scheming - and then he devolves, as Saruman of the Many Colors, into a convoluted mess of Blue (manipulating cunning schemer), Black (ambitious, petty, jealous and vicious antagonist) and White (he is the dark side of order, wanting to impose control and tyranny over all things). The only other Istari we get to meet is not Blue at all - but it is Radagast, who is full Green, for understandable reasons.

Me vs. Themes

So a lot of people, myself included, would agree that themes are important to a story. It’s good to have a point to what you’re doing after all. Without it, it can be easy for a story to become contradictory and aimless and while that works for some stories, it can easily start to destabilize others.

So why is it that all my talk of themes is in hindsight? This isn’t even with just the media I consume but my own written works. VERY few of my works have a theme going into them. They are built from a concept I like, mixed with characters who work with that concept and then... See where it goes. And yet, much of the time, when push comes to shove I can point to oddly well done themes in my own works, even if such things didn’t motivate the initial choices.

The reason for this is simple: A theme allows for a deep story... But I’m okay if a story isn’t deep, ESPECIALLY my own. My first and foremost priority, personally, is entertainment. If I don’t enjoy it, and especially if my readers don’t enjoy it, then what’s the point?

This isn’t to say it needs to all be happy. You can enjoy different emotions like angst, tragedy, tension, etc. like that and different genres lean more on different ways to enjoy them. Due to my own anxiety, I prefer to avoid horror media because the ‘thrill’ of anxiety and tension is one of the biggest draws of it but I get plenty of that from my own brain, thank you very much. No, the point isn’t to ask that everything just be sunshine and roses with only flash and pizazz.

But here’s the thing: I will always enjoy a well told, simple story that has a likable cast and a satisfying resolution over a story that is poorly told, makes me hate or lose interest in the characters and abandons its own concepts that can claim to have deep themes behind it. I am ALWAYS a firm believer that if you want the common person to get your message, you have to make it approachable. Have them want to be there and they will listen much better than if you went in hard from go.

And frankly, I also stand by that a good concept matched with good characters who properly interact with that concept will almost ALWAYS end up pulling themes out of it. Every concept is going to have a core idea driving it and staying true to that core and properly exploring it will eek out whatever theme was hiding there, waiting to be seen.

And for myself, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re commonly extensions of either my own pain or my own desires. Themes of second chances, ending cycles of violence, the power of kindness and the embracing of others are all pretty common to many of my works, even back in my erotica works. That’s not even a joke. What was meant to be a simple, smutty TIMESTOP story of all things has the twist of domestic abuse at the empowered person’s home and using his brain, rather than his anger, to arrest the abuser rather than simply kill him gets the boy out of the Faustian bargain he didn’t really realize he was in at the beginning. For a story about an eighteen year old kid being given timestop powers.

There’s a reason I talk about my mind ‘swerving’ when it comes to how messed up my ‘sillier’ stories end up. XD

But yeah, there’s not really a grand final point to this blog. Just got a comment that made me realize that ending cycles of violence has been a VERY common theme for me and so I felt like sharing some. I hope you liked it and have a good day.

Stuck in a time line where all the useless head cannons and information I’ve gathered about Batman specifically over the many years I’ve watched it as a child and looked for information from the comics and other places I could get it: I wish for it to stop being mixed together in the blender that is my mind.

Story plot one based on a story I read: mystical bond between two individuals enforced due to a deal made before the children were born.

Story plot two stemming from story one and the unsettling obsession with Harley Quinn and delving deeper: Harley lied to her daughter and told her she had an older sibling, didn’t expect that the child she specifically took out of Gotham would end up right back in Gotham.

Story plot three has nothing to do with the first two, and instead incorporate the oc’s from them into the story and started from the idea that spider man is their own universe not apart of marvel because I never made that connection it just exists on its own and Addams family: the Addams have an adopted child who happens to only be living due to an escaped alien symbiote. Because certain individuals feel the Addams are odd the try to torment the seemingly normal child and cause an accident which almost results in a teacher being eaten. Oldest child goes to Gotham to finish their last year of school, Batfam kind of navigating around the half alien in the house

Story plot four stemming from a one shot that started eating at my brain and didn’t leave: Alien child was bounded from planet to planet escaping the destruction of the suns, said child is the last of a now extinct species who’s bodies cleans the environment around them and change toxins into usable materials. Child’s escape pod gets too close to the tower, three of the justice league members recognize that this a literal baby and doesn’t understand anything going on, gets inadvertently adopted by Batman because of course.

Story plot five coming from Dannyphantom oc that I couldn’t find a good over arching plot for, and am now stuck in some sort of weird pipeline where I made a mess of crossovers because it’s also got Addams, Kim possible and MHA: Jack dies due to the ectoplasm exposure and Danny couldn’t figure out exactly how it was effecting his dad. Maddie essentially cuts off everyone. Danny takes his adopted little sister and they relocate to Gotham with the help of Diana. Along the way they also add Dani who decides to change her name and more sinister things seems to make an appearance with the three new half ghost kids.

Story plot six based on an old teen titans fanfic altered to be Batfam fic: one other thing happen when Dick Grayson lost his parents his little sister went missing. Only to be returned to earth as an exiled princess of a distant planetary system. But the least of their worries is if she will accidentally cause an early ice age to earth.

It feels a little better putting them into words. Um yeah this exists now. I’m not really sure if I’ll make the stories and link them but there out there now.

Doom WADs’ Roulette (2006): Newdoom Community Project

You know, a lot of WAD community projects started on Doomworld. Why not take a look at what Newdoom has to offer for a change, huh?

Newdoom Community Project started out as Xtife’s idea on November 11th, 2002. Just a simple MegaWAD created by members of the titular forum site. Soon enough, many people caught an eye for it and started helping. Sometime later, Xtife, who was at the time a team leader, step out of this role and they were replaced by Darren Finch, who at the time was also maintaining the Newdoom site. Long story short, after many WAD mappers came and went, the project was finally released at the very beginning of 2006, with its updated version released in the middle of May.

Will this community project end up good in my eyes? After all, most of these WADs that I reviewed usually ended up as good in my opinion, despite being massive mixed bags. Well, there is only one way to find out.

Most of the time, the maps look just okay. There are times when some of these look good; very good I might add. But usually, they look like typical WAD maps from the late 1990s, just bigger and with more complex architecture since this project is limit-removing.

Three and a half maps use custom music - Baleful Confines,  No Brakes, and Strayed from Sanity. These tracks are usually good, especially the first one (chris3.mid). The last half of a track is just text screen music played in Elemental. The rest of the WAD gets jack squat, and you are forced to play the maps with stocks. And here is a thing about Doom II stocks that almost everyone might agree about - they only fit in the original game. Shove them into a fan-made WAD, and you might as well add +4 to boredom if the music is on.

Speaking of boredom, playing Newdoom CP feels like one (at least mostly during the blind playthrough). Asides from many maps having things that were considered cringe even years ago like slow-moving lifts, switches being higher than they should’ve been, and how you must go from one end of the map to another after doing one thing, they suffer from the one-map WAD syndrome, AKA they might be fun if played solo, but playing them in a compilation will make you beg God to end your suffering.

The worst case is such a map is probably Maintenance Area, which is such a mangled mess of a maze full of corridors and platforms that I feel like it forces you to run around the entire map just to reach a room that you see from the other room right next to the former one. I played this map once, and I don’t think I would like to do that again.

And yes, this WAD ends with another, uninteresting, shitty Icon of Sin boss.

That doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything interesting in this compilation. Identity Check for instance has blue and red gates that affect the map to some degree, usually with blue gates doing something good for you while the red ones do the opposite.

Elemental, while going for too long, has this interesting concept of going between smaller locations from a hub one with the exit in the center to unlock each other with switches. If you have trouble finding these, look at the Automap; it will at least partially help.

Hotash Slay kind of gives me Mt. Erebus vibes due to how it looks.

Silenced Progression might be the map I tolerate the most. It might be my positive bias towards Melissa McGee, but this is the map that knows that it is a part of the community project and it doesn’t have to be really big and/or filled with needless filler. It doesn’t waste your time.

I guess this compilation is mostly easy. While many maps tend to get very cheap with their difficulty like surrounding you with hitscanners or fighting mid to high-tier monsters in small areas/corridors, if you know where and how to get to the secrets, you’ll end up mostly okay. If not bored from fighting cannon fodder most of the time. I might have said the same thing about the other WAD in the past (it was probably Herian 2), but this project is for me what Evilution is to Civvie11; a freaking boredom of a WAD to play.

The only legitimately hard map I remember is No Brakes. Despite being a slaughter map from 2005 that tried to be a part of Community Chest 2, it actually made me feel something.

I can’t remember if I encountered any bugs while playing this WAD. I know that while many bugs from the original release have been patched out, there are still some of these like getting stuck if you go for a secret without pressing one switch in Strayed from Sanity.

There is also a note to people using the Doomsday source port, saying that MAP06 and MAP07 will crash this source port if used.

And... yawns

That’s basically all I have to say about Newdoom Community Project. It’s a rather meh compilation of maps. It will mostly bore you out. Sometimes I was thinking if there was any quality control while this project was in the making.

Let’s hope that the next WAD/map won’t make me fall asleep while sitting down.

a quiet life is one of the many things that suyeong thought that he would have , growing up . it was the type of world he’d dreamed of . while it wasn’t the chaotic mess his parents had made him feel , there’s no denying that their divorce had hit him harder than he realized . swept away from busan to london by his father , suyeong was virtually raised by a single father that had a penchant for sleeping with his secretaries of the affluent law firm he’d become partner of . he’d learned to never remember their faces , ask their names or so much as get to know them more than the bare bones of details as the women would come and go .

london was a strange place for him , it was different and at times he felt like an outcast , ousted by the children at school , his private tutors not knowing what to do with the rebellious child , his trainers would lose patience with him , and most importantly , his absentee father . his relationship with his mother had been cut off during the divorce , the photos of them as a family left behind – and to this day he has no idea why that would be , in fact , her face has become nothing more than a clouded memory .

these questions , they led to a bitter teen , the kind that would be caught outside smoking pot and getting into fist fights in the parking lot . the more trouble he’d get in , the more times his father would have to come and talk his delinquent son out of it . often reminded how he would amount to nothing in his life if he kept the behavior up , suyeong would only bite back , fighting the urge to yell , scream , break things and instead bottled it all inside until the moment something would make him explode . this anger only settled as a more internal part of him as he grew older , moved out from his father’s home and found himself a place of his own . finally , he was able to have a semblance of peace . instead of taking out his frustrations on the unsuspecting , however , suyeong turned his focus into the ring . training day and night from kickboxing to other mixed martial arts , he found a level of inner peace he never would have anticipated . it was then that he decided to forgo college and keep his focus on the ring and his job at the pub as security .

suyeong grew up in london , having left korea with his father when he was only nine years old and went to school locally .

when in the ring , suyeong is not the type to hold back , everything about him is focused on the fight at hand and he will stop at nothing to win . however , once out of the ring , he comes off as a quiet , yet personable type though many could consider him unapproachable due to the resting face .

he’s a people watcher by nature , rarely ( if ever ) wanting to be the center of attention . as much as he is capable of telling a good story , he attempts to make it so in the simplest way possible , keeping to the point and being direct — which is exactly how he prefers to communicate . on top of that , he finds small talk dull , and would rather talk about anything besides the weather , especially if it goes beyond ‘ is it cold out ? ‘

when it comes to his relationship with his father , it’s definitely strained . they don’t speak often , and they rarely make attempts at reaching out . as far as suyeong considers it , they both live entirely separate lives and he’s alright with that – he doesn’t want anything to do with him no matter what the cost .

when it comes to his mother , suyeong was never told why he would have to go with his father amidst the divorce . the mother he remembers was kind , nurturing and understanding , where his father was the complete opposite , and whenever the subject would be brought up while he was a child , it would be swiftly shot down . just like his father , suyeong has never reached out , or sought out his mother , having been under the impression that she didn’t want anything to do with him , when in reality , during the custody battle , suyeong’s father used his influence to obtain it , and left his ex wife in the dust back in korea .

nowadays , suyeong is often seen walking around the streets when not at work or in the ring , or he is at home curled up on the couch with his cat , saya .

Hey hun!!! Thank you so much for the ask! Sorry this has taken so long. I'm trying to slowly come back, which I know I've said before, but life is...not great right now. I feel like every time I try to come back fully, I end up not being able to due to personal reasons. But I'm doing my best. I appreciate your support! Also...this was hard for me to choose because I love so many of my ocs. I decided to go with three (I know, overkill) because I'm currently working on stuff for Bleach, and the last ones I really messed with before that were my ocs from The Sandman, Daredevil, and Call of Duty (since MWII came out and I know you love MW).

dream: does your OC have a driving dream or goal? what is it? how far would they go to achieve it?

Helena: She has a harder time finding a purpose when she becomes...what she becomes. As a former witch turned Nightmare (who isn't really a Nightmare, mind you), she's just kind of...going through the motions of what her purpose is. Now, when Dream is captured and such, her purpose shifts to finding him and bringing him back to the Dreaming. Honestly, Helena does well in the waking world, but she would never admit it, because she knows that Nightmares tend to thrive there for Not So Good reasons. She doesn't want to be like that. But after everything is said and done, she takes her main purpose more seriously and looks at it in a different perspective (because she's the Nightmare of children, she teaches them its okay to have fear and that its healthy.) She also becomes Dream's queen of Nightmares, so there's also that.

Finley: Honestly, she's probably one of the few ocs I have that aren't super ambitious or isn't truly driven by something...bigger. Girl just wants a bar of her own to make her dad proud. She works at Josie's bar, Luke Cage's bar, and one or two more on occasion--kinda moonlighting when needed. But her family is Irish and they used to have a pub back in the day until her dad got mixed up in some unsavory individuals because he needed money. Finley was born in the US, but she grew up hearing stories of that old pub, and she just...wants to do something for her father.

Emma: I have to say that Emma Miller is one of the most stubborn, arrogant, and ambitious oc I have. Not necessarily in a bad way, or at least, she's not a horrible person. Her father was a Navy SEAL and he was an officer before he decided to retire. Emma and Marcus (he goes by Mark) both wanted to follow in their father's footsteps to make him proud--Mark went to the Navy and Emma went to the Marines. At first, it was all about making the dad proud and working their way up. But Mark only served two terms before moving on and opening up his own auto shop, which makes sense considering they would build old cars with their dad as kids. Emma, however, kept going until she went from the squad with Griggs and eventually finding herself on Task Force 141. She becomes less ambitious in all of that, and her goal is more focused on doing what's right and making sure her and her friends make it back alive.

no: how does your OC respond to being refused, rebuffed, or ignored? are they willing to accept ‘no’ as an answer?

Helena: I think it depends on what it is, to be honest. Normally, she doesn't care. Being told no isn't the end of the world to her, she respects it, actually. Helena was burned at the stake for being a witch, and it all started because a man couldn't take being told 'no'. So Helena respects the boundary of being told no, and she's not really too proud to react terribly at being rebuffed. In all honesty, I would be more worried about rebuffing her because there's a good chance that the tables will turn on you, and it will stay that way. Helena has a tendency to match your energy without remorse. So if you decide to ignore her, expect to be ignored in kind. But honestly, if you are super close to her or someone in which she cares what they think of her (Dream), it'll hurt her. She won't show it, but know that she will brood over it.

Finley: She doesn't care. She'll ask for consent, she'll make sure, and if you say no, she'll shrug it off as no big deal. You wanna ignore her? That's fine too. She'll move on to the next thing. Finn let's things slide down her back easily unless its personal. Anything outside of that, your business is your business. You can tell her no, she'll respect it, no hard feelings whatsoever. Honestly, half the time, you would have to be the one to approach her about certain things, because she's so stupidly laidback that you might have to nudge her in the right direction. But, when it comes to Matt Murdock, girl can't bring herself to ask this guy on a date. Finn is lowkey scared of rejection, so she just has a tendency to chill in that grey area of "will they or won't they" because she doesn't want to embarrass herself or make things weird. They have this weird flirty thing that goes back and forth, and honestly Karen and Foggy gag about it all the time. But Finn would rather just...not give him the chance to turn her down because there's no way (in her head) that she could pull a devilishly good-looking lawyer.

Emma: The stubborness of this woman...okay, to be fair, it really does depend on who it is and what the situation it is, because Emma understands boundaries--she's also very good at setting them herself and putting people in their place when they overstep. Especially if its someone doing that to her friends or family (and Emma's squad memebers count as family). If she's in a situation where she KNOWS she's right and gets told no, she struggles. She will fight you on it and push back, even if it gets her in trouble. Which it does. Often. Emma is also someone who doesn't like to be put in situations where rejection is possible. She prefers knowing the outcome rather than taking a risk. Emma also has issues with working through emotions--girl works out a lot because of it. That doesn't mean she can't take rejection, she would just rather avoid it (which I'm sure most people can understand). All that being said, she knows she needs to respect her superiors and when she's approaching that line, she will stand down, even if she disagrees and doesn't believe she's wrong. Emma isn't one to change her mind until proven wrong, and will definitely remind you if she's proven right. It all just comes down to the situation and who it is, because she doesn't sass back with certain people. If its her brother though, all bets are off. They act like children around each other. Or her mom. That's an interesting dynamic.

run: what’s one relationship or experience your OC has mixed feelings about? are they good at finding joy in sad things, or vice versa?

Helena: This is hard for her, to be honest. Helena...has a lot of conflicting emotions, she's a very complex character, I've found out. So I think it would take her so long to be able to trust any man again after what's done to her. But through Dream, Desire, Death, Corinthian, and Myra (another oc of mine)...I think there are two: Johanna Constantine and her mother. You would think it was Myra because of how Myra can be, but its not. Myra is upfront about who she is, and their friendship is actually pretty solid. Helena isn't really sure about Constantine though. She's definitely there to help her, they do business with each other while Helena is out looking for Dream, but honestly, she's not sure where they stand. Johanna can claim to be her friend in one breath, but then brush her off as just a business partner in the next. Helena is wary of being used, and while her and Myra have a mutually beneficial agreement where they're both using each other, Johanna seems too...backhanded about it. Not saying Johanna is terrible or anything, she just has committment issues. And Helena is fine with that, but you have to be straight up with her about these things. Helena would do her best to accomodate her feelings, but Helena doesn't like to be lied to either. Now, her mother...she was someone Helena looked up to, and who taught her what she knows about being a witch. She taught her to heal, taught her the gods and goddesses to worship, how to honor and give offerings, and also how to pray and work with them. She thought they were close. But Helena's mother made a deal with Night so that Helena could become Dream's other half when the time came, and in exchange, her mother got more power. But her mother became jealous because of this being that was far beyond them was going to have Helena and not her, she didn't like that one bit. So...it was actually her mother that convinced the man (who was upset from the rejected proposal) that Helena was a witch--her mother indirectly orchestrated her death. So...I think that kinda plays into part of why she has mixed feelings over Constantine, but I also think this is something that she's upset over, even though its been hundreds of years since then. Helena...is far better at finding the sad things within happiness, and I think part of that is because of her background and also because she's a Nightmare.

Finn: Hopefully this is shorter, but I think the only relationships she would feel unsure about is the thing between Elektra and Matt. Finn isn't really a jealous person by nature, but she...she worries, you know? It never bothered her that Matt was Daredevil, she didn't care and didn't pressure him to choose. Never accused him of lying, none of that. Finley has always seen Matt for who he is and supports him. When it comes to Elektra, she has a hard time with it. She loves that he has someone that understands him, but she also fears what her influence would do with him because he becomes more reckless with her around. I think its fair, and human, for her to have her doubts and insecurities. But at the end of the day, she will always support and trust Matt. And when she's gone? Finn does what she can to help him pick up the pieces. Finn tries to find the good in the bad, she really does, but honestly, she's...more realistic than that. She's not cold about it, she just gently lays out the facts and the emotions as they are so its better to process--good or bad.

Emma: I think when it comes to Emma, she's had a few flings in her life, but I think the only one that comes to mind is this guy she was dating at the age of 16. He was your typical bad boy with the leather jacket and motorcycle, and like...obviously her parents hated him, but her mother (Claire) hated him the most, and I think that's part of why Emma liked him so much. Emma doesn't have a bad mom nor is their relationship terrible--Emma is just a rebel at heart. Her mother is a southern sweetheart, Emma is not. She's a bit more...tomboy-ish than she believes Claire wanted (Emma REFUSED doing beauty pageants as a child). They definitely overcame that little thing, but I think Emma kinda learned a lot from that little...whatever it was. Emma likes good bad boys, and that guy wasn't it, but it kind of helped her realize that she was also...that type. It was less that she was attracted to the guy, but more wanted to be the one with the motorcycle and the leather jacket. Which is why she ends up with a Jeep and an old black Ford Mustang. It helped her come to terms with who she was as a person, which wasn't the sweet little girl Claire thought she would eventually become. Not that Emma can't be feminine, she is, just in her own way.

The Sky

Naomi

Back in the day, whenever you bought or sold something on the auction house a message would show up in your inbox confirming the transaction. These messages were sent by one of the dragon couriers: Pearl, Spitfire or Edgar.

On January 2016, a strange glitch occurred that replaced the images and names of couriers with the ones of a female fae named “Naomi”.

It goes deeper than that, though: if you looked up her name in the user search menu, a clan would pop up with over 15 million dragons.

It was quickly discovered that all exalted dragons had somehow become part of her clan. Naomi herself apparently didn’t exist, and clicking on her page redirected to an error page. This was later fixed and the original Naomi page can be now visited.

What exactly caused this glitch is still a mystery and today Naomi is still a well-known piece of Flight Rising history.

Missing Tidelord

In the official lore, the deity of the water flight disappeared in early 2018, as described in the short story “Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow”.

In the follow up story (Mixed Elements) posted in April of the next year it is confirmed that the Tidelord is still missing, but alive. This coincides with the fact that the Tidelord account hasn’t made any forum posts aside from festival announcements.

Emperors

Emperors are a type of unobtainable dragon that are formed when several Imperial corpses are left in close proximity to each other, which then fuse forming a multi-headed chimera.

Emperors are described in the lore as having an animal-like behavior and destroying everything in sight. They are extremely difficult to kill, which is the reason why in-universe Imperials have such strange burial rites.

An emperor named Luminax is first described in the Raising a Family short story, and their sprite can be seen walking around on the world map.

The Surface

Old color wheel

Originally, there were only 67 available colors for dragons. On June 8th 2016, 110 more colors were added, meaning that currently there are a total of 177 colors available.

When making a custom progenitor dragon, it is only possible to choose among the 67 original colors because it would be otherwise unfair for those who made their account before the new colors were added.

Imperial breed scrolls

Imperial breed change scrolls are one of, if not the most, rare type of item on the site. They were given only to those who pledged 30 dollars or more on the original Flight Rising kickstarter.

At the time, this was the only way of obtaining an Imperial dragon, which meant that the breed as a whole was pretty valuable. Now that Imperials are abundant this is no longer the case, but First generation Imperials are still extremely sought and probably the most expensive type of dragon on the site.

There were also other items that were only given to Kickstarted backers, namely Skycats, Bonefiend, Golden Idol and Cogfrog familiars, and those are also pretty much impossible to obtain.

Baldwin breed change

When Baldwin was introduced in 2015 he was originally a Pearlcatcher. On September 14th of 2016 however his site art started to gradually change, until his transformation was completed five days later.

In-universe, Baldwin started to change after a lightning strike hit his cauldron during an experiment, which made him slowly mutate into the breed we now know as Bogsneaks.

Trans Fiona

When Fiona was added as a trading post dragon people speculated that she was trans, because the female pose for Skydancers only displays two antennae, while the male one has four.

Since Fiona has four antennae in her site art, many wondered whether it was an oversight or actually intended. Aequorin later confirmed in a forum thread that Fiona is indeed trans.

Boolean

Speaking of rare items, the Boolean familiar was only given to a handful of Flight rising beta testers and as such is extremely rare and valuable.

Plaguebringer coli team

On the Plaguebringer’s page she is listed as being part of a coliseum team.

As of now we have no clue as to why this is, and even more strangely she is the only deity that does this.

Boston & Hope

This story is a bit complicated. I’ve scoured the forums in search of info but it seems like there are still some pieces missing. I’ll try my best to explain anyway.

So, for a long while the Lightweaver was the only deity that had other dragons aside from herself in her lair: these dragons were a Spiral named Boston and a Tundra named Hope. Strangely, they were both Earth dragons and apparently have been there since the beginning (?). When asked why (this happened back when deities would interact on the forums) the Lightweaver responded that they were having a dinner party together.

In August 2014 during a pretty heated dominance battle between Shadow and Light Boston and Hope disappeared from the Lightweaver’s lair.

The Shadowbinder now had them, and both their elements were alsochanged to Shadow. The two deities acknowledged this and changed their broadcast messages accordingly.

If I had to guess this was some kind of inside joke that the admins had, although some people got angry that the Shadowbinder now had both Hope and Boston. Some time later(?) Boston was returned to the Lightweaver and for some reason his element was changed to wind.

I don’t have any more info on the matter but if some of you do I would appreciate it if you tell me.

Shallow Waters

Eyepocalypse

On June 8th 2018 eye type variants were introduced. This update was pretty controversial for a bunch of reasons, and the topic is still discussed today. The majority of people(?) seemed to be upset by the fact the “best” eye types (primarily goat, primal and multi-gaze) could only be displayed on dragons that were born with them, and the fact that every dragon born prior to the update couldn’t have these eye types at all displeased a lot of users.

Another problem was the fact that most of the non-special eye types (i.e the only ones that could be applied to already existing dragons using a vial of Scattersight) were not clearly visible on the grand majority of adult dragons.

A smaller(?) complaint was that two of the primal eye types, Shadow and Plague, were seen as kind of disturbing by some people.

Three years later staff attempted to fix this issue by adding Eye type vials for every available eye type. This resulted in a market crash for special eye typed dragons, as now these eye types could be applied to any dragon. The value of Scattersights also tanked, and the people bought them and hadn’t used them yet lost money as now they were infinitely less useful.

EDIT 28/06: Goat isn’t actually obtainable via breeding, faceted is. Bad mistake on my part.

Also, Scattersights were given away freely by Galore on Flight Rising’s fifth anniversary in 2018 and could not be bought afterwards. I admit that I thought people could be able to buy Scattersights due to how upset people were that the value went down, but whatever.

Courier Breed

The courier dragons (Edgar, Spitfire, and Pearl) are part of an exclusive dragon breed that is currently unobtainable. Even though their eye color still reflects the flight they were born in, in-universe they are considered to be “neutral” and they are granted free access to all domains. This raises the question as to which deity created them, as every other dragon breed (Bogsneaks being the only exception) has been created by one of The Eleven.

Multiaccounting

According to the site’s terms of service, no one is allowed to have more than one account. This is pretty standard for pet sites, as having multiple accounts grants unfair advantages and can mess up the site economy. This doesn’t completely stop people for having more than one account, and the practice as a whole is called “Multiaccounting” or “having multis”.

Some people only do this to have multiple clans or reboot their account without deleting their old one. They mostly do no harm but it is reasonable that the site wouldn’t allow this because of how easy it is exploit.

The real harm of multis comes from a practice called “funneling” which is when someone creates multiple accounts only for the purpose of giving items to their main account. This practice violates the game’s rules and can result in a ban. Funneling is not limited to multiaccounting though, and having an account only to feed another is against the site’s rules whether or not the account in question belongs to another person or not.

Some people fear of being banned for multiaccounting even if they haven’t done so, especially if they share a computer with other people.

Purble

“he purble” is probably among the most famous Flight Rising memes.

In 2016(?) a rant was submitted to the original Dramarising blog by a very angry user that wanted to buy an XXX Purple Ridgeback back when triples were pretty expensive, but got beat by someone else.

I’m not going to copy paste it here because in my opinion it’s one of the funniest Flight Rising related posts ever and I don’t want to spoil the experience of reading it for the first time. You can find it pretty easily by searching it up.

Tert Picking

This is something that refaced recently, even though I’ve seen people talking about this for a while. Some people vividly remember being able to pick their custom progenitor’s tertiary color, even though the developers have made it clear that such thing would be impossible. This is without a doubt just one of those weird situations where a lot of people somehow remember the same thing wrong.

Still, it’s fascinating just how many people claim to remember doing picking their tert.

Swiftwings

Swiftwings were a dragon breed that was scrapped in development. The design was rejected because it didn’t fit the 2 arms 2 legs 2 wings format that every dragon design had to follow before the introduction of ancient breeds.

The reason for this rule is that otherwise it would mess up apparel placement. Although the concept was scrapped, echoes of the design were scattered throughout the site: for example, the empty dragon slots that were present prior to 2019 had the silhouette of a Swiftwings dragon. They are also mentioned in the April Fool’s update of 2018.

“Real” Lore dragons

Most people don’t know that some of the dragons featured on the lore stories are actually real, and you can visit their pages. This is the case for Tetra, Cracklinne, Velya, Liefa, Garote and Mirth, which are currently chilling in Aequorin’s lair.

All of the other dragons in the developers’ lairs are not canon and are used to test bugs and features on the site.

The Middle ground

True deity names

When the site first started the deities used to have actual names instead of titles. Some of these names were based off of the site founders’s usernames on other sites.

The names are the following:

Amogayvhi - Gladekeeper Xhaztol - Arcanist Rhenik - Tidelord Akiri - Flamecaller Thrage - Stormcatcher Undel - Shadowbinder Jhortanas - Plaguebringer Ghurab - Windsinger Artaios - Earthshaker Rhiow – Lightweaver

As you can tell, Xhaztol, Akiri, Thrage and Undel are the usernames of some of the admins of the site, and the flight they are a part of corresponds with the previous name of their deity.

No leg coatls

On January 16, 2015 an iconic thread was posted in the flight rising discussion forum, which displayed a photoshopped image of a coatl with its legs removed. Quickly the thread devolved into a general photoshop thread were people took official site art of dragons and modified it.

The thread was eventually locked due to spam and quote pyramids, but spiritual successors of the original “phoatlshop” thread still exist today.

Dress slot unlocking

A thing that a surprising amount of people don’t know is the fact that when buy an additional apparel slot, the slot opens for every dragon in your lair and not just the one you bought it on.

This is something I also discovered very recently and it’s kind of funny that so many people that have been on the site for very long don’t know this.

Clanbound scatterscrolls

I think the wiki explains it best, so I’ll just copy paste this here:

“Tri-Color Scatterscrolls suffered from an issue where they would only scatter a random range from colors 1-47 (white through sunshine) rather than 1-67 (white through rose). They have been fixed and are now functioning correctly with a random range within the 67 color set. The affected timeframe was from August 15th, 2013 until September 22nd, 2013. The admins allowed users who were unsatisfied with their bugged Tri-Color Scatterscrolls to receive the same amount of them back in the form of Clanbound Scatterscrolls to try scattering their own dragons again with the full color range.”

Beta Mirrors

Ever wondered why they’re called Mirrors?

According to Undel, the main artist of Flight Rising, mirrors originally were supposed to have every part of their body “mirrored”, meaning they had two sets of eyes, two pairs of wings, two tails, and so on.

This design ended up being too cluttered and looked weird shrunken down. The name was kept the same, even though the only mirrored part of the design are the eyes.

Dragons are evil

If you read the “Beastclans on the rise” lore bit, the dragons come across as… very evil, stealing territory from the beastclans when they have been living on Sornieth way longer than the dragons have and killing them for loot.

Furthermore, in the Bounty of the Elements lore bit the Beastclan rebellion guided by Talona is seen by the dragons as unreasonable and wrong even when in canon Beastclans are framed as the innocent party.

The Depths

Scroll of Divorce

In the alpha stage dragons were supposed to be monogamous and could only breed with the dragon they were “paired” with. To break their bond you had to use an item called “Scroll of Divorce” which even featured broken marriage rings in the art.

If I had to guess, this item and the concept as a whole were scrapped because the idea of dragons having “weddings” and needing to divorce before breeding with another dragon felt kind of weird, especially in a game targeted towards teens.

First Festival

The first Holiday festival in Flight rising history was the 2013 Brightshine Jubilee. The items that were available for this festival only are incredibly rare, particularily the Light Sprite which is one of the most valuable items on the site. Apart from that and the fact that the skincent contest only had 6 winners, not much is notable about it.

Offsite drama

Flight Rising has had its fair share of drama both on and off site, but due to the fact that it’s against the site’s rule to discuss user drama on the forums most of the notable drama happened off site (mainly tumblr).

Egg rot

Egg rot was a very early mechanic that was pretty quickly removed from the site. If you forgot to incubate your eggs, they would “rot” and no longer hatch.

It’s the reason why in the nesting grounds the text reads “Eggs healthy” and also the reason why on the stats section of the Account settings it says “Eggs discarded”. The mechanic was removed because it heavily punished casual players and the frequent downtimes of the site meant that even if someone logged in every day they could still have their eggs die.

Also, the images of egg rot look extremely cursed.

Pablo

From what I could gather, Pablo is a dragon which became somewhat popular after user “Desmondtiny” wrote a very long and detailed backstory of them being the Arcanist’s lost boyfriend.

I’m pretty sure it gues deeper than that but I couldn’t find any further information. As usual, if you know something more let me know.

Latest News

On November 12, 2014, a glitch(?) occurred that let anyone post in the Announcements thread. Anything that was posted went directly to the front page, which resulted in quite a bit of chaos.

This was fixed only half an hour later, but the screenshots people have from that time are extremely funny.

Lameforger

On the 2014 Flameforger’s festival announcement Undel accidentally misspelled “Flameforger” as “Lameforger”, which prompted the official account of the Flamecaller to respond aggressively. Lameforger is still jokingly used by users, even after the typo was fixed.

Festival of one (1)

On the first day of the 2014 Greenskeeper Gathering a glitch occurred which switched the site banner for the Starfall celebration banner instead of the Greenskeeper one.

It didn’t end there, in the coliseum Magical shards dropped instead of Bladed Flatleaves, even though skin chests dropped as normal(?).

The weirdest thing about it all was Joxar’s Space inventory, which didn’t display any items at all and had glitched dialogue.

The event was nicknamed by the fanbase “Festival of 1” and even the deity’s official accounts acknowledged the incident.

Vape Juice

As far as I know the original forum thread as been lost, but the vape juice fiasco will always remain cemented in Flight Rising History.

A company called Vape Daugz was making vape juice with Flight Rising dragons plastered on their packaging, completely violating the site’s policy.

The company’s site still exists, and browsing through their products I found that the products that previously had Flight Rising dragons on them still exist, but now feature completely different packaging.

I have no idea whether they changed the packaging spontaneously or staff did something about it.

I think there’s a potentially interesting story buried down there, but we’ll likely never the truth behind the Flight Rising vape juice.

The Abyss

Humans

There’s been some speculation over the years as to whether or not humans are canon in the Flight Rising universe. Some people believe that the “Mages” of the second age in the official lore are actually humans, but we can’t be sure because they are depicted with long robes that cover their whole bodies.

The idea of humans existing in canon has spawned a couple of memes, most infamously Thomas.

Plague healers

Again, I think the wiki explains this one better:

“According to Aequorin, Plague healers are an interesting bunch because rather than administer treatments that counter illness, they use a mixture of magic and contagion that stress the affected dragon further, allowing them to reach a stronger, healed, and resistant state faster than other elements. Plague healers will treat physical injuries with sutures, bandages, and braces, but they won't clean the wounds or apply ointments."

Akitla

As described in the original thread, Akitla was a dragon that user “qunii” saw on the front page, but noticed that she wasn’t accompanied by the username of the person owning them.

After clicking on her, an error page loaded. It was discovered that putting her color combination or ID in the search bar would result in an error page. This was later fixed, and both Akitla and her mate were now displayed as being exalted to the Arcanist. T

here are some theories as to what happened to the Akitla’s user, some think that she belonged to a deleted account, others that it was the result of an incomplete account creation.

As with a lot of things on this iceberg, it will likely remain a mystery forever.

Arcane sprite book

“what is the arcane sprite reading??” is probably one of the oldest still active threads on the forums.

On September 25, 2013 user “Kaadashi” started a joke thread were they wondered what exactly is the arcane sprite reading, and playfully suggested that it could be erotic fanfiction. People went crazy of course, and started to wonder what kind of juicy secrets were hidden within the pages of that book.

I don’t want to say too much because I really don’t want to spoil the experience of reading through this very cursed tread.

Sunshine

Sunshine is one of the most… interesting lairs on the site, and certainly one of the most well-known.

They(?) have a lair (almost) completely full of triple basic sunshine dragons, most of which are Tundras. So far they have collected about 320 triple hundred Sunshine dragons, almost all of which are also named “Sunshine”. They’re not all the same, some of them have apparel, some of them are gened and some have unique art and descriptions.

They’re dedicated and I respect that.

EDIT 28/06: Apparently some people seem to think that the sunshine-dedicated lair is based on a meme concerning the announcement of the color wheel expansion, which became so discussed that the itself site broke. The two things are unrelated however, as the Sunshine lair has been around for much longer.

The announcement of the color wheel expansion was cryptic, with only a few post showing off differently colored coatls and then 3 pages of reserved posts, with no explanation whatsoever.

Simple Farmer

Another very famous thread is the “I am but a simple farmer” thread started by user “someKindOfGenius”. It’s not really about anything specific, it’s just a rather silly thread were people photoshop flight rising dragons onto various crops.

Still, this thread is iconic so I had to include it.

Dragon Deaths

Way back in 2014 former flight rising programmer Thrage revealed on a forum thread that way back before the beta, dragons could actually starve to death if left unfed.

Yep.

Obviously they had to remove this mechanic because it would have been extremely harsh to casual players and make people frustrated with the game.

Zalvador

User “manojalpa” became fairly well-known for the extremely dark lore they(?) had written for their Clan, it was so dark in fact that every single one of their dragon’s bios had to moved to their tumblr where they couldn’t be easily seen by the site’s mainly underage usebase.

Their lore centered around their progen dragon, a tundra named Zalvador, which behaved and had the same powers as a flight rising user: buying dragons off of the action house, having “breeding projects”, exalting dragons, etc.

These things seem pretty normal when done by a player, but when taking them as actual real things that happen in universe… yeah, it was way too morbid for the site.

The Pit

Black linen neck wraps

For some weird reason, the apparel piece “Black linen neck wrap” when put on a male pose Coatl wraps around the dragon’s throat instead of it’s neck. It’s kind of subtle and hard to see, but if you compare it with the female pose the difference is clear. This is probably just an art error, although it’s weird that it hasn’t been fixed yet, since linen wraps are a very old piece of apparel.

Another weird thing about linen wraps in general is that the wing wraps just sort of… go through the membrane? This is not possible. These dragons are in pain.

Icewarden ears

Another very remarkably popular thread is the Icewarden ears thread.

In 2014 user “Llanai” simply makes note of the fact that the Icewarden has teeny tiny ears.

As we have come to expect from these threads, it quickly devolved into nonsense.

Forbidden Snapper lore

Snappers used to have a way different lore section that was changed because it deemed too similar to the lore of another petsite.

This is what the original section read:

"Snapper dragons do not sleep, but exist in a constant state of reverie. They receive and catalogue all experiences and stories told within their dreams. This persistent state of awakened dreaming awards them the longest memory of any dragon species. They are living encyclopedias, and any dragon who is seeking difficult-to-obtain information will have the most luck unearthing it from a Snapper clan - provided they have the patience for it. If you want two dozen quick answers, talk to a spiral. If you want a fully developed answer, camp out around a Snapper. These dreamers move at their own pace, which varies from dragon to dragon. For some, the awakened dream can prove to be more interesting than their surroundings. This leads to a focus upon the dream, and the waking world as filtered background noise. Bee movie script

I’ve seen this story around the forums a few times but I’ve never been able to learn the details.

From what I’ve heard someone copy pasted the entire bee movie script into their clan bio in a drop down text format, which completely broke the page for anyone who visited it. This was fixed, apparently, although I have no clue as to who this user is.

EDIT 28/06: Zeus

Zeus is an XXX gold g1 permababy imperial that used to belong to user "happywing".

Their account is now locked because Zeus was created with the use of a duplication glitch on an imperial breed change scroll, which is obviously not allowed (although I've heard some people say that the dragon was hacked in altogether). Before the account was locked, people speculated that Zeus was the most valuable dragon on the site, because an XXX g1 imperial is impossibly rare.

Wegg shaming

On July 2017 user “Dreamnorn” made a thread were they(?) claimed to have a dream where everything was the same except people used the term “wegged” when two dragons would lay only one egg in a nest.

Ex. Aw man! I’ve been wegged again! = Aw man! I bred two dragons and they only had one egg!

The dream ended up being prophetic, as the term catched on and people started to use it unironically.

The practice of “Wegg shaming” I think refers to the trend of people posting pictures of the dragons that “wegged” them in order to “shame” them.

Plague nest skull

The site art of the plague nest features an unique dragon skull that doesn’t match with any currently existing dragon breed or creature: It appears to have two sets of eyes, like a mirror, but also long and curled horns.

It’s probably just for decoration and it likely doesn’t have any significance whatsoever, but personally I believe it would be pretty cool if when they eventually release plague ancient it at least somewhat resembled this skull.

EDIT 28/06: On second thought, the skull doesn’t seem to have two pairs of eyes, It just has the generic shape of a carnivore.

…this is CAPTAINPLANET. Somehow, user “Decres”' managed to overlay a Fae skin on top of a Tundra, creating this horrifyingly fascinating abomination.

I have no idea how she did this, and she seems pretty adamant to tell.

EDIT 28/06: People have pointed out that this skin overlay glitch was actually somewhat common (although I still haven't found another dragon like CAPTAINPLANET). What you had to do was breed change a dragon while attaching a skin to them in another tab.

This glitch has been patched and such thing is no longer possible.

Dreams

I’ve seen a lot of people, both on forums and on Tumblr, sharing dreams they had about Flight Rising.

A lot of people dream of just being on the site, while occasionally weird things happen.

I’ve read of people who dreamed the distribution of a new breed, buying an exclusive item, a new Fiona feat or Swipp trade, or just browsing the forums.

The most common type of Flight rising-associated dream I’ve seen however is being caught multiaccounting and having their account banned.

I’m no psychoanalyst, but I think it’s pretty clear that these nightmares stem from the paranoia of being banned from their beloved petsite instead of showing any actual intention of doing the “crime” in question.

Anyways, I think it’s fascinating how so many people dream about this site, and it reminds me of the dreams people claimed to have about Mario 64 where completely new levels were added or a scary monster appeared.

Dragon Slime

Dragon Slime was an infamous thread which was supposed to be start off point for an ARG.

It was deleted because it was considered too “spammy” and also because ARGs are banned from the forums. The thread has been lost, unfortunately.

Cucumber

Cucumber is the only dragon ever to have been exalted with a skin, which is something that should not be possible. This raises some questions as to what exactly did the person that exalted them do to achieve this, but we have no way of knowing who Cucumber belonged to.

EDIT 28/06: Actually, we do know who used to Cucumber belonged to! Its owner was Osiem: an official flight rising artist. I couldn’t find the thread where they(?) acknowledged the glitch though, if someone has it please let me know!
